Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
Like ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnatis, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
I don't know that. I entirely agree with that. I
don't know.

Speaker 2 (00:39):

last show of the week.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Bengals pep rally in our place it's our last show
before the Bengals played the Chargers.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
We got a lot of stuff today.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
We got a lot of stuff across the board, some
college basketball, some college football, some bettings, some fantasy football,
reds Avenue TV deal. Folks have questions, we'll try to
get am answered for you. We have a lot of
ground to cover. Chad Rendel's going to join us later
this hour, the Great Least sterling in about thirty minutes.
Try to make us some money on pro and college football.
It's the first Thursday I've been here in a couple
of weeks, so my equilibrium has been thrown off. This

(01:33):
is going to be, or should be, a really fun
NFL weekend if you're an NFL fan, whether uh, whether
or not your team is in it. I think this
is a fun NFL weekend because we get some really
good games. We get some games with implication. Starting tonight,
first place on the line in the NFC East, a

(01:55):
really entertaining Washington team coming off a tough loss to
Pittsburgh against an Eagle squad that has I think reignited
the talk of them winning a championship right, which was
where we were a year ago. And then they melted
down at the end of the season. There was a
lot of uncertainty with that team early in the season,
and they're playing great. They have a very good roster.

(02:17):
That starts us off tonight. That's the Amazon game this evening.
You can listen to it on Fox Sports thirteen to
sixty and it continues. We get a matchup this weekend,
and we don't like these teams obviously, but first place
in the AFC North is on the line one o'clock
on Sunday, Steelers hosting the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore a road favorite,

(02:37):
laying a field goal. Pittsburgh is coming off that win
against Washington. The Ravens a little bit more time to prepare,
coming off beating the Bengals. First place on the line.
Two good teams. You might hate to hear me say it.
I don't like to say it. Two really good teams.
We get a game on Sunday afternoon, pitting right now

(02:57):
the top two seeds in the AFCFS and Bills. A
lot of history, a lot of recent history between those
two teams. It's Kansas City trying to remain undefeated. First
time this year they've been under dogs. Patrick Mahomes twelve
one to one. As a dog, the Bills are running
away and hiding in the AFC East. They've got this
checkered postseason history, really great entertaining game with a lot

(03:22):
riding on it. I just mentioned three games this weekend
that are the three biggest games of the weekend. Now
you're going, wait a minute, moment, what about Bengals Chargers?
Bengals Chargers is a big game. Big game because now
the Chargers are a playoff team right now, the Bengals
are trying to be a playoff team. Bengals and Chargers
could wind up tied with each other and the head

(03:44):
to head game then would be the tiebreakers that this
game has playoff implications and it's a big game. It's
a matchup between Burrow and Herbert. These two quarterbacks have
gone up against each other one other time twenty twenty one.
Justin got the best of Joe. What the Chargers have
done with Herbert is interesting because they've kind of taken
the ball out of his hands this year. Two years ago,
he was asked to throw at forty one times per game.

(04:06):
This year twenty six. Jim Harball is always interesting. One
of the great coaches of the twenty first century against
Zach Taylor, one of the great coaches named Zach of
the twenty first century. So it's an important game, but
it's not quite on the level of the first three
that I mentioned. Why did I mention those games because
in each one of those games, there's a lot riding

(04:27):
on it, and there could be and probably will be
reverberations from each one of those games. But you know what,
none of those games are elimination games. Colts and Jets
play an elimination game this weekend. It sounds silly to
even consider the Jets a postseason contender, but I guess

(04:47):
you know, they're two games out of the last wild
card spot, and so hey, you might make the argument,
Colts Jets, that's a in wrestling parlance, what is it?

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Loser goes home? Teraran?

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Is that what you say in wrestling? One of those games,
it's an elimination game. In essence, Bengals lose on Sunday.
Let's be honest. Let's be honest. Lose on Sunday. They're
four and seven Pittsburgh coming up next after the bye.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Really are we gonna do it?

Speaker 5 (05:12):
Like?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Oh, you never know? Four and seven come on, no chance,
little chance. I'm already hedging myself. Why did I mention
those first three games, because each of the teams playing
in those three games I mentioned big games has wiggle room.
Like the Eagles and Commanders both badly want to win tonight,

(05:36):
and there's a clear reward for winning tonight, and winning
tonight could take those teams and push them a step
closer toward winning a division championship and in Philadelphia's case,
maybe getting the one seed. Although Detroit is for my money,
dramatically better than Philadelphia, but they do play a tougher division.

(05:57):
There's playoff implications, but both both teams have wiggle room.
Neither team is desperate in mid November. Neither team wants
to lose. Both teams can afford to lose. Same for
Pittsburgh and Baltimore, neither team wants to lose. That's a
great rivalry, a lot on the line would be great

(06:18):
to take a step toward winning the AFC North. Both
teams can afford to lose. Buffalo KC KC wins. Let's
be honest, They're gonna be the one Buffalo wins. A
little bit different. Both teams are going to the playoffs.
Both teams are going to win their division, both teams

(06:38):
are Super Bowl contenders. Both teams have wiggle room. So
let's take the conversation we have every summer and reframe it.
What's the conversation we have every summer? G be great
if the Bengals can get off to a good start. Man,
can they avoid going zero to two? What do they

(07:00):
need to do in July and August to figure out
how to start fast in September? It is this schedule
gonna fall their way that they could enter October with
a winning record? What can they do to avoid this
slow We're gonna do it. We've done it every year forever.
Now we're gonna do it next year regardless of how
this season unfolds.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
So we do it every year. Let's reframe it.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Okay, the gold next year should be for the Bengals
to be playing in games in November where they have
wiggle room, because unfortunately, this year they don't lose on Sunday.
Come on, man, let's be honest. Four and seven. You're
betting on that team to make the postseason. I'm not
betting on that team to make them to make the
postseason with any confidence.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Wiggle room because the Bengals again stumbled, fell flat on
their face out of the gate started zho to free.
They're playing a game at mid November with weeks to
go where they have no wiggle room. Now they may
go to Los Angeles and beat the Chargers. Bengals are

(08:08):
a point and a half dog. We're watching the game
at Smoke Justice on Sunday night. If you come out
and hang out with us, that'd be cool. This is
a winnable game. It's a Chargers team that is not
very explosive offensively. They try to control the clock with
their running game. They've got a very good defense spearheaded
by Rick Minterson. Jesse Rick is on the staff with

(08:29):
the Chargers under Jim Harbaugh. It's a winnable game. Bengals
have a quarterback who's having a great year, Orlando Brown.
Practice today, things are looking good for t Higgins. Jamar
Chase is currently third if you look at the odds
to win NFL Offensive Player of the Year. This is
a winnable game and if they do, let's go. But unfortunately,

(08:52):
a game like this the Bengals cannot afford to lose.
So next year June, when we shift the conversation toward
the start of the season, we'll do it. From this standpoint,
the goal next year should be to play so well
in September that in November they have wiggle room and

(09:16):
they could still play in really big games, massive games,
must watch games, important games with impact and implication, but
games the Bengals can afford to lose. Can you imagine
how much more fun Sunday Night would be, or the
build up to Sunday Night would be, if we were

(09:36):
talking about the six and four Bengals going to La
take on the six and three Chargers, two teams with
winning records, two teams that might meet up with each
other again in the postseason. Instead, they're playing for their
lives in mid November because they failed to put themselves

(09:57):
in a position to play well at the start of
the season. The zero to three hole reverberates in Week eleven.
That can't be the case.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Moving forward.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
A quarter after three, I get a really mean email
here from a guy named Pete.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Pete, thank you for listening, Mad. We have not taken
a phone call. We we don't need. I have lost
the emeritis.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Upset that I listen to myself talk without taking phone calls.
I don't know that we're gonna have a lot of
time today because we are loaded. But five point three
seven four nine, fifteen thirty eight sixty six seven O
two three seven seven six.

Speaker 6 (10:38):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
The Red seven new TV deal. By the way, the
radio deal is the same. You can listen to every
game for free down the hall on seven hundred WLWH.
I don't know, man, I'm not as worried about their
lack of revenue as I guess everybody else is, for
a simple reason. We'll get to that next. On ESPN
fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Station, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty. Traffic from the UC Health
Traffic Center.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Going on for me, he Workman's comp claim coming. This

(12:10):
Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson This weekend Long Nex Sports Grill, Wilder, Hebron, Ridgewood,
Stay Long, Come often. Lee Sterling's gonna join us in
just about eleven minutes. An absolute mess in the studio today.
Let's we don't have a guest this segment. Wow, so

(12:31):
we can spend a few minutes chatting with Scott. Scott,
you're on ESPN fifteen thirty. Good afternoon.

Speaker 7 (12:37):
Oh here's a little helpful tip.

Speaker 8 (12:39):
Yeah, don't do that, don't do that, don't.

Speaker 7 (12:42):
Do what, don't don't run your chair over your foot.
Move here.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Oh it gotcha? I did.

Speaker 9 (12:48):
Well.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
I'm clumsy and I'm trying to pull my headphone cord
out of the way, and I just it hurt like
hell and I almost fell back. Yeah, you know, we
have we have we have a video camera that's on
in here that we we shoot the show with for
social media clips. And I did not hit record or
else I would have put that moment out there because

(13:09):
everybody would have gotten a big old laugh.

Speaker 9 (13:13):
Right.

Speaker 7 (13:14):
Okay, So, so one thing I hate is revisionist history.

Speaker 10 (13:23):
I hate the.

Speaker 7 (13:24):
Fact that now everybody says we should have kept Jesse
Bates when at the time he wasn't playing very well
and we all agreed that he was gonna want too
much money and they shouldn't do that.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
I think there's a validity to where you're coming from.

Speaker 7 (13:42):
Yeah, sure, everybody said, well not everybody, but most people
like this. Sheldon Rankins and the Geno Stone signings.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
I was all about Genostone. Now, I was all about Genostone.
I will admit that.

Speaker 7 (14:00):
They're not playing well. That's that that can't be attributed
to the poor job that the Bengals did on scouting
them because he was a free agent that lots of
people wanted.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Uh sure that.

Speaker 7 (14:17):
So then that's the crust of my argument or wherever
you want to call it opinion about the revisionist history.
I just I it just drives me crazy that people
expected that the Bengals should have known that Sheldon Rankins

(14:38):
was going to be terrible, Keno Stone was going to
be terrible, and uh some of the other uh signings
that they had that they projected would help this team.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
Well yeah, but I mean you you are in life
graded by the results of your decisions.

Speaker 7 (14:58):
That's that's fair. I mean that is fair.

Speaker 11 (15:02):
But I I.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Could, I could, I could book a guest for this
show who I think is going to be absolutely awesome
and they may sleep walk through the interview.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
You know who has to pay the price for that.

Speaker 11 (15:13):
Me.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
It's my show.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
So uh look, man, I'd be lying to you if
I told you that I spent a lot of time
banging on the table saying the Bengals need to keep
Jesse Bates, but in large part because I believed in
what they were doing to replace him. Well, what they
did to replace him hasn't worked. They shouldn't be held

(15:36):
accountable for something they tried not working. I'm not going
to pretend that I banged on the table and said
the Bengals should keep Joe Mixon because the player that
I watched over the last couple of years was not
very explosive. But if you don't, but if you don't
upgrade from what you had, you know, you you get
taken to task for that.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
That criticism is entirely fair, right.

Speaker 7 (15:59):
Well, And and I hear even Tony. I think Tony
Pike talked about her Austin that Joe Maxon had twenty
five carries this weekend. Yeah, and look, how what are
you doing? He had twenty five carries for forty nine yards.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Right, he had some He had some really good runs
early in that game on Sunday, and then his his
production drive, production of the entire team dropped.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
But I mean, look, I mean, you know again, anecdotally.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Am I going to tell you that I was opposed
to Sheldon Rankins being brought in. No, I understood what
he was. He was a guy who historically has been
good at getting after the quarterback. He has not been
very good against the run. Unfortunately here he's been neither
I think. I think though, it's it's worth examining why
these players that the Bengals brought in and paid and
brought in and paid for a reason haven't been able

(16:43):
to do here what they could do elsewhere. Gino Stone
was a terrific was a terrific player last year with
the Baltimore Ravens. He's been non existent this season. Why
is that?

Speaker 7 (16:53):
He is the same with Vaughn. Von Bell's been really bad.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
But I think with Vaughan, you understand it's kind of
long the tooth, right, Like I think with him again,
I'm not going to pretend I wasn't on board because
I understood what they were trying to do. Look, we
want to shore up the communication in the secondary. Vaughn's
gonna do that in the short term, and then maybe
we'll diminish his role because he is older. So like
the physical part of that not being there I was

(17:19):
ready for. I'm not going to crush him for that.
I will crush him for not having somebody behind him
who could play at a higher level and do the
things physically that Vaughn can.

Speaker 7 (17:30):
Oh well, And again I think that that's reasonable but
I think when you look at Jordan Battle and now
his he was on the rise. So I think it
was acceptable to bring in bon Bell with knowing the
fact that he had Jordan Bell or Jordan Battle behind

(17:50):
him who was going to get better and better and
for telling that hasn't happened.

Speaker 11 (17:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
But I mean, like, all right, so is did did
did Jordan Battle peak last year? And is he plateaued
or are there like I'll flick it back to the
Joe Mixing conversation and like Joe's had his moments in
Houston where he has been very good. I think a
lot of people have harped on the overall production of
the Detroit game. Why is a player a good fit
in one place that's not a good fit here?

Speaker 7 (18:19):
Yeah, that's again, that's a fair question. I I I
think that there are certain styles and I'm just gonna
throw this out there because I don't know enough to
know enough. But you're not gonna put Kirk Cousins in

(18:39):
the Tennessee offense because it's not a good fit.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
Yeah, but isn't Isn't that about the Tennessee offense and
not so much about Kirk Cousins, Like you mean to
tell me if you took Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrow,
they couldn't thrive in the Tennessee offense.

Speaker 7 (18:54):
No, I I think that them as a quarterback exceeds
the style of play that there. He is out there.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
But if you had if you have a Quinn, I
don't think Kirk is as good as Joe or Patrick.
But if you have Kirk Cousins, don't you tailor your
offense to what he does?

Speaker 7 (19:12):
Yeah? I do plan to agree with that.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
With Joe Mixon, to me, it didn't look like fit.
It looked like lack of explosiveness, which which to me
sort of goes beyond fit. He's not good at getting
to the next level that he wasn't here. Why has
he been at least a little bit better at doing
that in Houston? I think that's a fair question.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
Scott, I got a run, man. But it's good to
hear from you, as always. Thank You're very welcome.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
It's twenty nine minutes after three o'clock. By the way,
we did do a show preview video on X Bluesky
doesn't take long videos, so it didn't put it there,
but I did put some gambling picks up there.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
Do what you want with them.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
Speaking of gambling, Lee Sterling's gonna join us America's best handicapper,
or at least the best handicapper on this show next
to ESPN fifteen thirty cent sports station like quick sports
headlines and service with Kelsey's Chevrolet Orlando brown Back in
practice today, Bengals with their official injury report that come
out in like forty five minutes.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
We'll have that for you.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
Bengals, Chargers Sunday Live on ESPN fifteen thirty, NKU and
Nichols Tonight on ESPN fifteen thirty pre game at six thirty.
West Miller's shows tonight at eight on seven hundred Wow
and the Thursday night till Commanders Eagles on Fox Sports
thirteen sixty. It's been a few weeks because I've been
off the last two Thursdays. Our friend Lee Sterling is

(20:31):
with us to try to make us some money on
college and pro football this weekend Paramount Sports dot Com
and on X at Paramount Sports.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Lee, what is up?

Speaker 10 (20:40):
I'm good.

Speaker 11 (20:41):
I'm real good.

Speaker 10 (20:41):
Can't complaint. So strange week here in Miami. We had
Hurricanes lose and the Dolphins wins, So you figured it out,
you don't.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
Exactly all right, My Bearcats are headed to Ames, Iowa,
pretty hefty underdogs against the Cyclones. Can they break a
two game losing streak.

Speaker 10 (21:02):
Cyclones are down like five starters they were at one
point of the game last week, so we don't know
if they're going to get any of these guys back.
But I mean they are a mess. There's two times
during the game they didn't even line up a cornerback
on the receiver and they just threw it to that
guy who was not marked. And big gainers, so there's
some real big problems going on in Iowa State. They
don't tackle well. If you can run the football. Taj

(21:25):
Brooks ran it for one hundred and twenty two yards
against him and Iowa City, then Devin Neil for one
hundred and sixteen yards, you can be successful. I think
the Bearcats have the backs and also a dual thread
quarterback that can do it. The only way they don't
cover here is if Storesby just becomes careless and turns
the ball over two to three times. I like since

(21:46):
the outright here, Wrong Team Favorite seven twenty five.

Speaker 5 (21:49):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Unfortunately, I just did watch Brendan sorosby turn the ball
over and play carelessly. With that said, a little apprehensive,
but I like where your head is, all right, big
one of the AFC North, first place on the line.
I hate saying this because it's a game that doesn't
involve the Bengals, but the Ravens go on the road
in their favorites against Pittsburgh.

Speaker 10 (22:10):
Yeah, I mean, this is this Baltimore team right now
is gonna be a tough out and take nothing away
from Pittsburgh. I mean, no one thought they'd beat disappointed
with only two losses in the season, but who they beat?
They beat the Commanders, great quarterback, young great quarterback in
Jalen Daniels. But other than that, there's not much of
that team. Then on top of that, they beat the Giants, Jets,

(22:31):
and Raiders. So of late, the combined those records of
those three teams is seven and twenty two. Ravens have
potential MVP. They have the potential offensive MVP and Derrick
Henry who's rushed for eleven and twenty yards. I think
Russell Wilson is a huge upgrade here. But Lamar Jackson

(22:52):
twenty four touchdowns, two interceptions, and they piled up more
than four hundred and fifty yards on offense in four
of its five away games, and they won't ten to
last thirteen on the road makes no sense, But they're
better on the road, and they're not going to forget
that they lost to pit twice last year. Baltimore thirty
to twenty.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
All right, Lee.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Sterling, Paramount sports dot Com. Sunday Nighter Bengals in primetime
for the second consecutive week. They head out west sight
of their Super Bowl loss to take on the Chargers
as slight road docks.

Speaker 10 (23:22):
Yeah, this is the Bengals season here, this is that
big a game. Here's Cincinnati's record would look far more
impressive if not for, obviously that one point lost to
undefeated Kansas City and two defeats by combining four points
to the Ravens with one occurring in overtime. The Chargers
are sound disciplined and will coach Jim Harbaugh getting the

(23:45):
most out of Justtern Herbert. But while the Bengals record
is misleading because of all the close losses to elite teams,
the Chargers six and three record I think is misleading
the other way because of the soft schedule that includes
wins against our Raiders, Panthers, Saints, Brown's and also the Titans.
Here the combined record of those five bottom feeders twelve

(24:08):
and thirty five, Cincinnati's twelve and four. Here the last
two plus seasons after Week ten with Burrow as its starter,
and the Bengals should get back t Higginson's Orlando Brown
gonna play. Also, what are you hearing?

Speaker 1 (24:20):
I think I think things are going in the right direction.
He was on the practice field.

Speaker 10 (24:23):
Today, all right, just make sure you know if he
needs a drink of water, you go out there and
help them, make sure he's okay. Carry his helmet off
the field here. I just think that the Chargers don't
ra because they don't How much of a home field
edge here? What do you think to be about fifty
to fifty fans? Since he and Chargers fans every.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
Time you watch the Chargers play, there's lots of the
other fans there. I haven't personally talked to anybody who's
going out to LA, but yeah, you'll see some orange
in the stands on Sunday night.

Speaker 10 (24:51):
I think so too. I'm picking Cinci here. Yeah, I
think they pull they pulled me upside here.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
Thirty to twenty four my guymount dot com. You're free
player of the weekend. Buffalo and Casey, top two teams
in the AFC.

Speaker 10 (25:04):
YEP, anyone wants to get it for free, be one
of the first five callers. Call eight hundred four hundred
nine seven four to one. We'll give them Kansas City and.

Speaker 11 (25:11):
Buffalo on me.

Speaker 10 (25:12):
And how about this. Normally when we have a Thursday
or Friday standalone game, it's fifty dollars. How about this
ten dollars. We call it the ten dollars Thursday Throwdown.
And also on Friday, I also have a big selection
on Friday, the ten dollars Friday Firepack. Pick both games

(25:33):
each day ten bucks. Where can you get it?

Speaker 11 (25:35):
Just one place?

Speaker 10 (25:36):
Paramount sports dot com.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
Awesome stuff, Lee, Thank you as always.

Speaker 12 (25:40):
Thanks Mom, get that game right now.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
Eight hundred four hundred and nine seven four one. We
know what you just heard, right There's that's a sound
you don't often hear at the end of that phone.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Call him hanging up the phone. Right he was calling
us on a handset phone.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
You could hear him hanging up the phone a landline
calling my my grandmother, God rest her soul.

Speaker 12 (26:03):
We're visiting all the ninety six league.

Speaker 1 (26:05):
Aren't we we really are?

Speaker 2 (26:06):
Yeah, Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson and Lee Lee Sterling
calling us on the land.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
I missed that.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
I missed that sound, that click, the click that you hear.
You only get that when you call league. Chad Brendle's
going to join us to talk about the Bearcats. Next,
it's the Ortho cinc Moegger Show on ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnaties Sports Station. Hey, it's Moeger dealing with an urgent Orthody.
It's twelve away from four. This is ESPN fifteen thirty.

(26:32):
It's the Ortho Cincy Moegor Show on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Our friend Jay Morrison's going to join us at four
twenty Our Bengals Chargers, and we got our guy. Maury
Brown knows more about the business of sports and baseball
than anybody alive. And so the Rads announced, in conjunction

(26:52):
with Major League Baseball that MLB is going to produce
their TV games, and people have questions.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
I think a lot of folks are concerned.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
That the Reds aren't going to make any money on
their TV deal and then aren't gonna be able to
you know pay players, and I don't know if that's
the case or if it's not the case, but Moury
does and some Moury's going to join us in just
about forty five minutes. It's also fun having a guy
in the show whose name is Maury. Chad Brendle's name
is not Maury, or I would have called him Maury.
Name's Chad bearcat Journal dot com. He's with us, now,

(27:20):
how's it going good?

Speaker 11 (27:22):
That sounds like a good, like like a burner account.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
Morey, Moury. My mom calls my mom calls me Maury,
so maybe maybe it'll be mine. Really she does, or
she used to. She doesn't anymore, but she when I
growing up, she called me Maury.

Speaker 11 (27:38):
She eventually switched over tomorrow, but reluctantly.

Speaker 1 (27:41):
Exact she was the last one to come over to
the to the mo side. Yeah, uh, I know.

Speaker 11 (27:51):
Whatever.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
I know, you don't wager, but pretend you did. You
had to wager an amount of money that matters to you. Well,
Dan Skilling's be on the floor in December fourteenth.

Speaker 11 (28:04):
I guess I'll go. No. I think it's the safe bet.
I mean, it's hard to tell because you know it
sounds like the standard, like he is going to absolutely
no questions asked, Miss X. Number of weeks is probably
like three, I would guess, and then from there it's

(28:28):
week to week on how he's healing, how he's feeling.
But West has already said they're going to err on
the side of caution, which given the way the Big
Twelve schedule plays out this year, you almost have to
because if you rush him back and you risk missing
him for any portion of the Big twelfth schedule because
you rushed him back, you're in trouble. Because this league

(28:50):
is incredible from watching the early returns. So it's what
four weeks, we're four weeks from the.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
Shootout from all one month from today, Yeah, four.

Speaker 11 (29:03):
Weeks from the shootout. I would say close to return
at that point. But if I had the wager, I
guess I would say.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
No, I can't help but shake the feeling. They've played
two games, they've had three guys get hurt. That's not
a good sign.

Speaker 11 (29:21):
No, it's not a good sign. The Tyler McKinley one,
I mean, I've seen a video of it. It was
non contact. He was just you know, doing a drill
in practice and making a move and his knee gave
out nothing you can do there Daydae Thomas, we knew
we were gonna have to worry about that pretty much,
you know, when he broke his foot. Like basketball players

(29:44):
and and and foot injuries don't go together. They go
to you know, I won't, I won't make that amout you.
That's gonna go somewhere. I'll pass. Uh, they don't. They
don't go together real well. So you know there's gonna
be a fear that that's something the Lingers throughout the year.
And then you know Dan and the second there in

(30:05):
the opening night of the season, that's what worries me. Moo,
you lost Tyler McKinley the first game of the season.
You lose Dan Skillings the first the first practice of
the season, you lose Tyler McKinley, the first game of
the season. You lose Dan Skilling. No more. First we're
out of first like the first big twelve game.

Speaker 1 (30:23):
Worries Yeah at this point, yeah, no, we're we're on
the same page there. They've played two games. What have
you learned about this team?

Speaker 12 (30:32):
You know?

Speaker 11 (30:33):
I think the funny part is, I know they scored
one hundred and nine points against Pine Bluff. I think
it might have been more impressive that they were able
to even get close to eighty against Morehead State because
the pace of that game was really really slow, like
really really slow, and in previous years under you know,

(30:56):
maybe a different coaching staff that might be living out
on the West coast right now, that would have been
a sixty three point game. Right when I looked at
the points per possession, I mean, did you I don't
know if you look that up or not. With the
points per possession in that game, where one point four
to three points per possession for the game that is,

(31:18):
I mean, like one point two to one point three
is crazy high. So offensively this team through two games,
the assists rates are really high. They're not turning the
ball over, they're shooting a high percentage, they're connecting from three,
like all the things that you want to see offensively,

(31:39):
I think we've seen through the first two games, and
that is super encouraging.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
When he committed I asked you about Keishaan Tillery he
has signed. I'm going to ask you about him again.
How much am I going to love him?

Speaker 11 (31:53):
You're gonna, I mean, just a fierce competitor at point guard,
really knows how to run.

Speaker 13 (32:00):
A team, how to play the game.

Speaker 11 (32:03):
He can pass, he can shoot, he can score, just
a little bit of everything. And one of those I've
always been a big fan of this, one of those
like tougher East Coast guards, and you know, that's kind
of what he think, like an old big East guard
like point guard, and that's kind of the role that

(32:26):
he fits. I also like that that he's a.

Speaker 14 (32:28):
Kid that has been rising up the rankings, you know,
and sometimes you find those kids that sophomore junior year,
they're really high up in the rankings, and then as
they get older, they start to fall a little bit down.

Speaker 11 (32:42):
And a kid that was like twenty in the rankings
when you started recruiting him is like sixty when he commits.
This is a kid that is going the opposite direction.
And West talked yesterday about he thinks he might be underrated,
and I think that's fair because I don't think his
ascension is really like like maxed out his peaked yet.

(33:02):
So you know, everybody always talks about wanting to have
a quote unquote true point guard. I think he is
a true point guard in today's sense of the word,
and that he can run a team. He's really solid,
he's a good athlete. He can really get up and
down the floor. But he can also score the basketball
because that true point guard idea is gone. You got

(33:24):
a point guard that can't score, your offense stinks like
it's just it's handicapped. And we've seen that here at times.
And he can do a little bit.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
Of both at times.

Speaker 11 (33:35):
For thirty years, thirty years, thirty years kind of time.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
Yeah, yeah, it does.

Speaker 11 (33:44):
Can.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
Can the football team be at Iowa State?

Speaker 11 (33:47):
I don't think so well, I really, I mean, I've
been trying to figure out ways to talk myself into
it throughout the week. Their past defense is outstanding. They
have had some trouble against the run of late. I
know they've got, you know, a bunch of kind of
meaningful injuries linebackers and you know, the corners. But I

(34:15):
I'm trying to talk myself into Okay, maybe the last
two games are signs that those injuries have really had
an impact and Iowa State's not as good as they
were maybe three four weeks ago. And then I think
this is also an Io State team playing at home
at night, coming off of two games that they really
just did not play well at all, and that terrifies me.

(34:38):
I'm impressed by the improvement we have seen from this defense.
The reality is they've lost four games by what twenty
one points, twenty two points, whatever it is, They've been
pretty much in every game. Maybe, and maybe it's I've
had this one circled all season long. It's like this
one's probably going to be the toughest one on the

(35:00):
road at night against Iowa State. But I don't feel
great about it. And some of that is we need
Brendan Soresby for this team to win. We need to
see Brendan Soorsby get back to who he was the
first half of the season and not who he's been
the past couple of weeks. And I don't know if
it's confidence, but what I'm not seeing though those first

(35:23):
couple of weeks, like there might have been some russ
there is some inconsistency at times, but boy, when he
got into a rhythm, he really clicked and he could
really start humming for like an extended stretch. I haven't
seen that in weeks, and that concerns me going into
this environment. I mean, you're gonna have to run Corey
Kyner a bunch. I think. I think my biggest fear

(35:45):
is Iowa State gets a decent lead that you know,
a two's a ten point lead, and then their past
defense is so good that Cincinnati really struggles to call
their way back. I don't feel great, and that's not
what you were looking for, But I don't feel great
about this.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
You know what I look for on this show is honesty,
and you gave it to me, even if it was depressing.
And that's okay. We'll uh, we'll talk next.

Speaker 11 (36:08):
Week, all right, thanks, No, you won't know, we won't.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
I won't am off. That's right, you are next Thursday.
That's right, go here from me.

Speaker 11 (36:19):
But maybe maybe at three forty five I'll call and
interview you.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
That's probably not a good idea for me, man, that's
probably probably not what It's probably not a good move
if I if I choose to do that, but I've
made I've made poor decisions, so you never know, all right, Chad,
Thanks so much. There you go, Chad Brendel Bearcat Journal
dot Com. A little bit later on Jay Morrison on
the Bengals from the venue originally known as Paul Brown Stadium,

(36:45):
Moray Brown's gonna tell us if the Red's gonna go
broke because of their new TV deal, and uh, Dan
class if the Reds did go broke, what would happen?
And Dan Claskins will tell you who to start in
your fantasy football team. I'll spend a few minutes. Uh,
it's signed in college basketball, and we've talked a lot
about the men's side of it. You see, women have

(37:05):
picked up I think the greatest signing in program history.
And the coach is Katrina Merriweather and I like Katrina
says she's going to join us for a few minutes.
Next on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
This report is sponsor.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
Hey, it's Moeger This football season, no matter who you
root for, no matter if it's college or pro, you
can catch every game at Long Nex Sports Grill. They've
got four K TVs all over the place. And remember
the sound is on for every big game. And if
you haven't tried long Next Wings, what are you waiting for?
There's tons of other great stuff on the menu, and

(37:38):
no place in Northern Kentucky has a better beer selection.
Locations in Wilder, rich Wood, and Hebron Long Neck Sports Grill,
Stay Long, Come, often.

Speaker 4 (37:48):
The Bengals clash with the Chargers.

Speaker 12 (37:50):
Coverage.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
That's Sunday at four on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official
home of the Bengals.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
All right, it's a wow.

Speaker 2 (37:57):
We'll wait.

Speaker 1 (37:58):
I don't know how to read a clock. Bear receive
and say this seven after four o'clock.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
This is ESPN fifteen thirty on Oleger It's the Orthos
en cmo Egger Show, ESPN fifteen thirty. Thank you for listening.
Hopefully you're having I remember having a great Thursday, just
as a quick aside. Excuse me, that wasn't the aside.
You know, there are days I love to look outside
and mention how nice the weather looks and how great

(38:25):
it would be to, you know, do the show outside.
I'm looking outside right now. It is become in vogue
on social media in recent years to when when it
gets to be fall, to express your excitement for fall,
and perhaps with a pumpkin spice latte or something like that,

(38:46):
maybe wearing a flannel shirt. People love to romanticize about
fall and the changing of the leaves. Well, if you
are anywhere close to where I am right now, I'm
in Kenwood, look outside. How does fall look to you
right now. You don't get a whole lot of it's
fall posts on days like this. It's dark, it's cloudy,

(39:07):
it's rainy. It's miserable everywhere, but here we are not miserable.
We have a lot to get to this hour. Bengals
are leaving for Los Angeles tomorrow to take on the Chargers.
Jay Morrison's gonna talk about that game and so much
more with us coming up in just about ten minutes
or so, and we're gonna get some answers because there
are questions about the Reds have a new TV deal

(39:31):
because the company that they were that was carrying the
games bankrupt and so the Reds sold off their share
of Bally Sports now fan Duel Sports, and so now
MLB is going to produce their games and distribute them.
And I think in an offseason like this, where everybody

(39:52):
is hoping the Reds, you know, spend money on the
roster and go big on twenty twenty five, you have
a lot of folks wondering if they're gonna be able
to do that. We're going to get an expert on
who joins us every single time we have questions about
such things coming up in just about twenty five minutes.
It has been a very good start to the season
for the UC women's basketball team, and a great signing

(40:15):
day as well. Cincinnati three and zero for the first
time since the twenty fifteen sixteen season, knocking off Davidson
last night sixty eight to fifty. This on the heels
of announcing one of the most talked about recruiting classes
and the history of the program. The head coach, Katrina Merriweather,
always kind enough to give us a few minutes when
we ask.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
It's good to have you, coach. I know you're busy.

Speaker 11 (40:35):
How are you.

Speaker 13 (40:37):
I'm doing great. Thanks for having me, and I can
always make time for you.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
Well, it's nice to hear someone say that for once.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
All Right, you've played three games, and obviously it's still
a work in progress, but you know, every game for
a coach is a chance to learn about your team.

Speaker 1 (40:52):
What have you learned through three games?

Speaker 13 (40:54):
Well, that Billian Hayes is everything that people think she is.
I tell people all the time, like she's our heartbeat.

Speaker 9 (41:02):
She's tough, she's gritty, but she's also skilled and I
think that that is infectious and it goes through our team.
The addition of today, and Hilton has been phenomenal. She's
the point guard that we knew we needed going into
this season, the type of guard we promised Jill we
would get so when she came back, we would have

(41:23):
an opportunity to compete. And then a handful of returners
that came back locked in, focused and have improved from
last year to this year. And our lone freshman, Chloe Mann,
comes in with all the speed and energy you can
ask for.

Speaker 1 (41:39):
So like being the only freshman on a college basketball.

Speaker 9 (41:42):
Team exactly, it's a it's a challenge, for sure, but thankful.
We're thankful we have the leadership you know, of Jill
and today and again some of our returners and and
they've embraced her, and you know, she refers to some
of them as as auntie, your grandma, and she's the kid,
and they have their own joke about it, but everybody's.

Speaker 13 (42:02):
Happy she's here.

Speaker 1 (42:03):
Who gets called grandma?

Speaker 13 (42:06):
Yep, Jill's grandma and Tanay is auntie very good?

Speaker 7 (42:10):
All right?

Speaker 2 (42:10):
Well, you know that's a little bit weird for the
age bracket we're talking about here, but I guess it
makes sense. The schedule is about to turn starting on
Monday night when you play Seaton Hall, I want you
to kind of walk me through the philosophy of scheduling
understanding in the Big twelve. Now, you know, are the
bullets start to fly when conference play gets here, and
so you have to kind of schedule in the non

(42:32):
conference accordingly. Walk me through the sort of objectives you
have in mind when you make your schedule.

Speaker 9 (42:38):
Well, I think playing you I see on the road,
who had eleven seniors and grads, was going to be
a challenge for us, and it was very much a
game that if we didn't show what rate to play
was not going to end in our favor. So I
felt that challenge early on was important. Then we come
home to a Delaware State team who ended up having
a couple of injuries, so that score ended up more

(42:59):
lops and anticipated, but we still think that we got
some good reps out of it because they zoned us
quite a bit. And then you have Davidson, who be
Florida Gulf Coast, who everyone knows is a mid major
power that upsets power faces on a regular basis. So
bringing them in here, we knew they'd be really well

(43:20):
coached and and very disciplined and that they would challenge
us defensively, and now here we are receive in Hall,
who finishes in the top three of the Big East,
and coach Tonya has been there for a long time.
He's an alum, loves that program. They're going to have
Northeast basketball and they're gonna look very similar to our
re e L.

Speaker 13 (43:39):
Jackson.

Speaker 9 (43:40):
Their shifty, fast, explosive, great ball handlers. And he had
the audacy go get a couple of post players too,
So now they're a well routed team.

Speaker 13 (43:49):
That is it's gonna be a really tough battle for us.

Speaker 2 (43:52):
On Monday, Katrina Merriweather is with us the women's basketball coach,
head coach at the University of Cincinnati. You've been preparing
for games and then rounding out your class twenty twenty five,
twenty twenty six, signing them and talking about them this week,
and I want you to run through the entire class.
I would imagine, you know, I'm going to start by
asking about d Alexander. So I watched her a year

(44:17):
ago at Purcell and the person that I said she
might go to UC, and I looked at him and went,
you're kidding me, And yet here she is. She's coming
to the University of Cincinnati. For those who haven't had
a chance to watch D give me the scouting report.

Speaker 9 (44:32):
Well, I have to start with my staff doing a
phenomenal job in a way that we all invested in D.

Speaker 13 (44:38):
And Apia Junt was huge in the recruiting of.

Speaker 9 (44:41):
Her, just in regard to finding out the right people,
building relationships with the right people. And that's what matters
most to D. Right, it isn't about score the most point.
She wants to win and she wants to win championships
and that's why she's won three and why she's a
three time basketball So you know, she's this well rounded

(45:03):
versattle kid that when you get the ball fifteen feet
and me in I don't know.

Speaker 13 (45:07):
That we've coached anybody better.

Speaker 9 (45:10):
And because she's so good at that range, you likely
did not see her shoot threes or maybe even pull ups.

Speaker 13 (45:16):
And it's not that she can, it's just that she
hasn't had to.

Speaker 9 (45:19):
So I think that the cool part about her is
that as we coach her, people are going to see
all the different layers to her game on both.

Speaker 13 (45:27):
Ends of the floor.

Speaker 2 (45:28):
You know, what I liked was the competitiveness, and that
sounds cliche, right, Like, I mean, you can say that
about so many kids. I've watched a lot of high
school basketball in my life. I'll watch a lot of
girls high school basketball in my life. I haven't seen
many that just treated the competition.

Speaker 1 (45:43):
The way she did.

Speaker 13 (45:45):
Yeah, you know, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 9 (45:47):
We've seen her again win under armor, the circuit championship
and the state championship, and she just shows up and
she plays the same way. And I think that her
maturity and her.

Speaker 13 (45:58):
Consistency is probably believe what you saw.

Speaker 9 (46:01):
She's just gonna play her best game and make people
around her better because of how she plays. And I
know that having her commit early had a lot to
do with while we were able to put together the class.

Speaker 1 (46:12):
We did all right, run through the rest of the class.

Speaker 12 (46:13):
Warning.

Speaker 9 (46:15):
Okay, so next we have Kalia de Vilisi known this
little bit. She's the number one player in Maryland. We
went out there and tried to find the best point
guard that we could that we thought fit our system,
and she was it and we were incredibly fortunate to
land her. She You're just gonna love watching her play.
She's got incredible vision, she knows how to control tempo,

(46:38):
She's mature, far beyond her years on the floor, and
we see what today this year, how important it is
to have a point guard.

Speaker 13 (46:45):
So very excited about her.

Speaker 9 (46:48):
Joya Crawford is a two time offensive Player of the
Year in the state of Tennessee. We think she's arguably
the best one in Tennessee.

Speaker 13 (46:55):
She's won state championship this past year as well.

Speaker 9 (47:00):
Was playing defense, athletic, explosive, shoots, logo threes. You know,
she's really exciting to watch. Cali Barrett from Florida. People
will probably think that she has flown under the radar.
I mean she's either the third or fourth ranked player
in the state of Florida. So I don't know how
under the radar she really is. But from a national

(47:22):
from a national standpoint, a lot of scouting services don't
have a range very high, and so we think we
got to steal.

Speaker 13 (47:29):
She can shoot the ball.

Speaker 9 (47:30):
She's really smooth. She can put it on the floor,
stands about six to two. When we were recruiting her,
we joked and I said, hey, you're a really smooth
offensive player. Said, but if you're going to be a
bearcatch you got a rebound. And I went and marched
to play in that next evout period in July, she
was rebound the ball like crazy, and I said, well,
there's we go.

Speaker 13 (47:48):
That's our girl.

Speaker 9 (47:50):
So it really excited to have her in last, but
not least. We've got page with it from Memphis. Tremendous
back squaw, pedigree father.

Speaker 13 (48:01):
Coach in the NBA, and then the G League. Footwork
is impeccable. She can really shoot the ball, and I
thought she.

Speaker 9 (48:07):
Would be a great compliment to this class simply because
she can stretch the floor. So we got some downhill people,
rebounding people, and some folks that can knock down shots,
but only.

Speaker 1 (48:18):
One that has a nickname. Little bit. When do the
other kids get nicknames?

Speaker 13 (48:22):
So I think that they all probably have some.

Speaker 9 (48:26):
Well we'll figure out what we're gonna call them, I
think a little bit. She's got a little bit of
a celebrity behind her too. She's the niece of Monkey.

Speaker 13 (48:35):
Bows, so yeah, you know they are.

Speaker 9 (48:40):
And I'll say this better, so I believe she's the cousin,
so don't don't quote me on that, but I know
that he has showed up to some of her games,
and so she's her family deeply embedded in Baltimore, I mean,
if there's any ballers who have come out of that area,
including Alan Iverson, in that Virginia space, like, they all
know each other, so it's only fitting she would have

(49:01):
a she would have a nickname, right, because that's just
where where she grows up.

Speaker 13 (49:07):
Well, we'll come up with some other ones for those
for those other stores.

Speaker 2 (49:09):
Well, if you need any help, I'm here. I'm not
good at much, but I could do that. Good luck
in the coming stretch of games that you have. It's
always good to have you, coach.

Speaker 13 (49:17):
Thank you so much, Thank you so much for having me.

Speaker 1 (49:19):
Talk to you soon anytime.

Speaker 12 (49:20):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (49:21):
Katrina Merriweather, the head coach of the UC women's basketball program.
Jay Morrison on the Bengals Next Sportho Cincy leg Your Show,
ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 4 (49:30):
This is Football Illnetti, brought to you in part by
Modern office Methods, on the official home of the Bengals,
Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 2 (49:40):
All right, Jay Morrison joins us on Thursdays at least
when I'm here. Jay covers the Bengals for Bengals Talk
dot Com under the Sports Illustrated Umbrella. He's on x
ad by Jay Morrison, and he's with us now.

Speaker 8 (49:55):
Hi, Jay, It's been a long time since I slept
through it a appointment that I did last week, and
I apologize to all the listeners.

Speaker 2 (50:04):
Yeah, they were devastated, and I've spent the week consoling them.
I wasn't here, so you know, for me, it was
no no skin off my back. I'm just glad you're
year and and feeling well. That's all that I care about.

Speaker 8 (50:15):
Yeah, yeah, much better. I'm I'm I'm a full participant
this week.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
Very good.

Speaker 2 (50:20):
Orlando Brown was not, but he was a participant. Is
he going to play on Sunday night?

Speaker 11 (50:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (50:27):
I mean, we'll find out more tomorrow. I think it's
it's good to see that he's back at practice, just
like te just the fact that they're they're back out
there and at least going, I don't want to say
going through the motions, but getting work in. Because if
the plan was to not play those guys and let
them have another week off and then the bye week,
I don't think he would see them practice. So I

(50:48):
think the intention is for them to play. But anytime
you have injuries like that, you just you need to
see how they get through the week. We've seen this
before where you know, reinjury can can crap up, and
both those guys could be game time decisions that would
go out and go through a hard work out on
the field before the game and see where things stand.
But I think the air is definitely up on Tea

(51:10):
and I think I'm fairly optimistic that Orlando will be
after Sunday night as well.

Speaker 2 (51:14):
If Orlando plays and he's healthy and he's good, and
he's playing left tackle, can the leash for the interior
offensive lineman be a little bit shorter and maybe entertain
using Cody Ford in one of those spots because that
position group really struggled against Baltimore.

Speaker 8 (51:32):
Yeah, I mean they did, but they talk all the
time about the camaraderie and the chemistry and just the communication,
and I don't know, and especially with Cody playing pretty
much nothing butt tackle for the last few weeks, I
don't know. Unless you see an injury or a guy
just totally getting whipped over and over and over again,

(51:53):
I don't know that that's the direction they would go.

Speaker 2 (51:56):
One of the questions that many of us had after
the Baltimore game, lou An Rumo was asked it about
taking Mike Hilton off the field in certain situations third
down and close to the goal line against the Ravens.
Did his responses to those questions make sense to you.

Speaker 11 (52:14):
Somewhat?

Speaker 8 (52:15):
He said it was matchup base. We just talked to
Mike Hilton, and Mike said that he asked Lou the
same questions that we asked Lou, And we asked what
Lou told him, and he said the same thing, that
they were matchup driven and he wants to be out there.
He hasn't closed the window on that. He thinks it's
still a possibility. It doesn't sound like it's in the

(52:36):
plan for Sunday unless they're keeping it under wraps. But
I did I wonder too, because I don't know if
it is all matchup. Mike's getting up there, He's thirty two,
and is this is this kind of a load management thing?
And I asked him how he feels coming off the
field off there down. Does he feel fresher and stronger?
He said, yeah, absolutely, that has been the positive side

(52:56):
of this, But he still wants to be out there
on third down.

Speaker 1 (53:00):
So what do you make of what didn't didn't happen
with Xavin Howard?

Speaker 11 (53:05):
Yeah, I don't know. It's it's really odd.

Speaker 8 (53:07):
It's why bring a guy in unless you're kind of
close on what the what the deal is going to
look like? What roster are you going to put him on,
whether it's the practice squad or the fifty three. Just
it makes no sense to bring a guy in and
have him get through that whole workout and then either
go low on the offer or basically insult them and

(53:30):
say we're going to put you on the practice squad.
I just I don't understand why that's not hashed out
ahead of time before a guy comes in. But I
have not talked to anybody within the team to see
exactly what happens, but it is what happened. But it
does sound as though that was the problem. There was
a disconnect on what they wanted from him. He had
a good workout, but they I don't know, I don't

(53:54):
even know why bring him in at this point They've
known since the draft they needed the veteran corner. Why
now do they say, Okay, let's let's go grab a
guy off the couch.

Speaker 11 (54:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (54:02):
How how disappointing? In your opinion, has Cam Taylor Brippen
this season?

Speaker 8 (54:07):
Very I and It's so puzzling because it's not as
though we haven't seen him do it.

Speaker 11 (54:12):
We haven't.

Speaker 8 (54:12):
We've seen him play at a high level. It felt
like he was going to be the breakout guy on
this team this year, not just athletically and performance on
the field, but as a personality. He's got that great
personality and they were they were gonna mike him up
and they were kind of make him a face of
the defense. And that's that's how you get to Pro Bowls. Yeah,

(54:33):
you got to play well on the field, but you
need to get that national recognition, you need to get
that popularity aspect of it going to and I just
I don't know what's happened, and really everyone else is
puzzled by it too. That was another thing. We just
asked Mike Kilton, like, what do you think is going.

Speaker 11 (54:49):
On with him?

Speaker 8 (54:49):
And he said, he's just a young guy in a slump.
We all go through it and you just got to
figure out a way to get out of it. I
don't know, it's been it's been a long slump. Sometimes
slumps are a game or two. This one's been a
season long one. And it was almost like that that
great interception in Kansas City kind of made him want
more of those type of plays. And when you're looking

(55:11):
for interceptions as opposed to just handling the assignments, sometimes
your eyes can get bad. You start breaking on balls
you shouldn't break on, and we've seen that he's just
gotten deep over and over and over again.

Speaker 1 (55:21):
Yeah. Uh, it's it's been. It's been frustrating for us
and I'm sure for him as well.

Speaker 11 (55:26):
Jay.

Speaker 1 (55:26):
Awesome stuff as always.

Speaker 11 (55:27):
Man, Thank you, all right, thanks mom.

Speaker 9 (55:29):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (55:30):
That's Jay Morrison on x AT by Jay Morrison. He
is on James Rapeene's website, Bengals Talk dot com. It's
twenty nine away from five o'clock. Reds have a new
TV deal. MLB is going to be producing the games.
How do you watch them? Are they going to make

(55:51):
any money off them? And will they hire me to
be one of the announcers? Those are the questions I have.
We'll ask those, maybe not the last one. To our
friend Mary Brown from Forbes Next ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 4 (56:02):
You've been listening to football in thenetti on the official
home of the Bengals, Cincinnatis ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnatis.

Speaker 2 (56:12):
In what was expected, the Reds announced today that they're
TV games. They're games on TV I should say, will
be produced and distributed by Major League Baseball. This obviously happening,
and well you've seen this coming down the pike. It's
happened with other big league clubs where MLB has taken
over the TV production and the distribution, which to me,

(56:33):
that might be what right now matters more than anything
to fans this because essentially Bally Sports is going away.

Speaker 1 (56:41):
It's been rebranded.

Speaker 2 (56:42):
I know there's a Blue Jacket's component, a Cleveland Cavaliers component,
but Reds fans, how the games are produced and maybe
to a large degree, how they look and how they
make money off their TV broadcasts going to change, and
there's I think there are concerns. I gather this from
looking at what people put on social media that this
is going to impact their ability to sign players this offseason.

(57:04):
I don't know, but I know who does. Our guy
that we call, and frankly, it's always been about baseball.
Whenever there's like a sports business intersection and somebody who
can answer questions about TV rights and stuff like that.
Our friend Maury Brown, who's on X at Bisball. Maury
from Forbes. I appreciate you joining us on short notice
because I have questions and they're probably dumb questions, Maury,

(57:25):
how are you?

Speaker 12 (57:26):
I'm good and there are no dumb questions.

Speaker 1 (57:29):
Oh oh I I proved that wrong every single day.

Speaker 11 (57:31):
All right.

Speaker 2 (57:32):
So this is not the first city, this is not
the first team where this has happened, and there's going
to be more this year. How's this going to work?

Speaker 11 (57:41):
Well?

Speaker 5 (57:41):
I mean, the good thing is right, Baseball had the
production a long time since they did their MLB Network
Game of the Week, right, so all the graphics, everything,
their ability to go ahead and produce that they'll largely hire.
I imagine the contractors that were involved at what was

(58:02):
then called Bally Sports.

Speaker 12 (58:03):
Now it's FanDuel.

Speaker 5 (58:04):
So your on air personalities, everything largely stays the same. What,
of course, does change is the distribution package. And historically
now Baseball has done a good job in improving.

Speaker 12 (58:21):
The territory by which fans can get a hold of it.

Speaker 5 (58:25):
Now some might not like the method that it's going
to go ahead and present it as but as they
said today, it's going to grow from I don't know,
close to two million to almost thirteen million, and that
comes in a number of different ways.

Speaker 2 (58:40):
So if I had a cable carrier or a television
distribution service, and I had it specifically because it had
Bally Sports and I've wanted to cut the cord if
the Reds left Bally Sports, I can do that and
then get the games elsewhere without blackouts.

Speaker 12 (58:57):
Yeah, and this is where it gets tricky.

Speaker 5 (58:59):
So well Baseball determines what black ats are different ways.
Their idea is, we want to be able to get
it available to fans outside of being trapped in this
thing necessarily with television, and this is where it gets tricky.
So you might be able to watch it streaming if

(59:20):
you don't have let's say Direct TV or whoever they're
going to carry, then I can go and I'll be
able to get it online and I'll be able to
stream it. So that is how they're able to say
that they're be able to cover their entire broadcast territory.
There'll either be a television way to get it, and
if you can't get it that way, you'll be able
to get it via streaming.

Speaker 12 (59:40):
But the idea, of course is if.

Speaker 5 (59:42):
You want to get it and you're willing to go
to those particular platforms that it's available on. It will
be available as opposed to how it was before, where
you were more or less trapped.

Speaker 2 (59:53):
So I see, I see a lot of folks, and
you know, the Reds are in a position. They have
a new manager. Everybody's excited, Terry Francona, they have a
good young nucleus. Fans are wondering, Okay, what are they
going to spend on the team and is that going
to be affected by having a new TV deal. I've
seen folks express some concern that the Reds aren't going
to make hardly any money off of this. I'm not

(01:00:14):
sure that's the case, is it?

Speaker 1 (01:00:17):
Well, this is a great.

Speaker 5 (01:00:18):
Question because the numbers haven't really you know, drawn themselves out.
But I would look to some of the other teams
that were kind of caught in this Diamond Sports group, right,
which is the group that has been controlling all of
these teams. This is they went into banking now, but
we saw that some of them decided to renegotiate with

(01:00:39):
Diamond and stick around. And to me, you don't do
that unless you were willing to take a cut, right,
I mean, somebody coming out of bankruptcy, you reached the deal.
They went, well, we can't pay that anymore, we're bankrupt.
You renegotiate that can only assume that that went down,
So there is some concern. This is a transitional point

(01:01:01):
right now where we're moving kind of from traditional television
as we know it to really having the streamers in place,
and they're all feeling it out, you know.

Speaker 12 (01:01:09):
To find out where they're at. Now.

Speaker 5 (01:01:10):
More and more of them are wanting to get their
hands on live sports, and the reason for that is
pretty obvious.

Speaker 12 (01:01:17):
You don't DVR sports. It's live, it's unscripted.

Speaker 5 (01:01:21):
Most people want to watch that and that will always
draw people in, and it's obviously got a very dedicated
fan base. So I believe that over the next five years,
maybe a little bit longer, maybe a little bit less,
you're gonna see some of this transition in the near term. Yeah,
I mean, it could be less money.

Speaker 11 (01:01:41):
Now.

Speaker 5 (01:01:42):
Baseball is made up for that in a number of ways,
and the Reds are one of them. They have more
sponsorships than any other club in the league. So they've
gone out and done that. Now, whether they would have
done that anyway, that's the argument, right They're like, hey,
of course, we don't want to lose that television revenue,
and we would have preferred to have television revenue be

(01:02:03):
where it's at and.

Speaker 12 (01:02:04):
Grow our sponsorship numbers.

Speaker 5 (01:02:06):
But again, Baseball always seems to figure out a way
to increase revenues if something drops off a little bit,
and sponsorship has been a big one. So are the
Reds going to hold back on it? They would have
largely probably a five year plan. If they're worried about,
you know, the uncertainty of revenues right now, they might
hold back.

Speaker 12 (01:02:26):
Maybe they won't.

Speaker 5 (01:02:27):
I mean, I seriously doubt you go after Terry Francona
without the idea that that young nucleus is going to
do something.

Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
So this is maybe the dumbest question that I asked him. Like,
I obviously I understand how the radio end of it
works because I work. I work for the place that
carries the games. Right they they sell the majority of
the inventory. Is that how it's going to work here?

Speaker 11 (01:02:47):
Right?

Speaker 1 (01:02:47):
Are they?

Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
They're going to sell the commercial avails and then pocket
that money and then of course obviously be able to
sign Wan Soto with that coin.

Speaker 5 (01:02:55):
Yeah, I won't say one Soto at that point, but yeah,
I mean, look, they're projections. Again, the public doesn't see
this stuff. Baseball's a closed, you know, private thing. But
they've got enough details now they have enough clubs in
the in or hopper. Right, the Podres are probably the
best example. If I was to sit there and go

(01:03:16):
what club is probably seeing the highest return on what
they're getting in terms of engagement at revenues, what goes
along with them moving over to MLB, doing their distribution
and whatnot. You'd have to say the Podres right now, right,
they're doing really well. So there, you know, then the
Diamondbacks they're going to have other teams that are gonna

(01:03:38):
go ahead and see how this works out. But again,
even if you go all the way back to the Padres,
who were the very first team, them and the Diamondbacks
are the first two teams that went in twenty twenty three,
that's not a large sample size to figure out how
it's really performing. It will say this, if you have
a streaming deal, nobody is tied into it. Television deals

(01:04:02):
used to be of the ten year variety, right, and
then those revenues were locked in. They may have been
a little bit less in terms of years, but you
knew what your cost certain your revenue coming in was
gonna be.

Speaker 12 (01:04:14):
Streaming is not like that.

Speaker 5 (01:04:15):
I mean, if your team stinks one year, you want
unsubscribe to go I'm not gonna watch this, that revenue stops.
So I look at this as kind of a glass
half full thing. Yeah, it should incentivize teams to want
to win because now the product that you roll out
there is directly tied to money. You can't just sit

(01:04:38):
on your hands and money pour in. You have to
put a good product on the field, and that, of course,
is what everybody should be striving for in the first place.

Speaker 2 (01:04:47):
Yeah, you stole my thunder because that was gonna be
my last I was. It wasn't even gonna frame it
like a question that I view this as if you're
a fan, you have a little bit more power because
you know, we've seen unfortunately here the Reds for most
of the last thirty years haven't been good. And then
fans speak with their wallets, right they decided to not
buy tickets. And I think this is interesting because if
you have a season like two years ago, when the

(01:05:08):
Reds lose one hundred games, you're gonna have folks who
are like, well, I'm not paying for this streaming service
to watch them lose one hundred games, and it empowers
the fan a little bit more.

Speaker 5 (01:05:17):
I like this morey, Yeah, I would look at it
this way too. There's some other stuff looming out on
the horizon, so nobody, of course. I mean, look, the
Reds are in a pickle. There were a number of
teams right that we're involved with, us, the Guardians, the
Twins who already talked about a couple of others, the
Braves that were stuck in this bankruptcy purgatory for lack

(01:05:38):
of a better term. Right, they were really stuck for
a while, and now they're kind of figuring it out.

Speaker 12 (01:05:43):
Right now.

Speaker 5 (01:05:45):
Right this last year, right season, we saw, of course,
the two best teams in both leagues with the highest
payrolls make it, and you go, oh, there's not chance.
But if you look historically, since we've added the wild card,
there is the ability. Now there's enough with that wildcard
series to make.

Speaker 12 (01:06:02):
It for teams that get in.

Speaker 5 (01:06:04):
Then they can really move up the ranks pretty quickly.
The wildcard teams can perform and do well and get
further along. In twenty twenty six, the labor deal ends,
so teams now I think are prepping with this idea
that maybe additional wildcard teams make it in there. Look,
the Players Association may have something to say about this,

(01:06:27):
but the owners wanted to have two additional wildcard teams
per league, so four teams total going.

Speaker 12 (01:06:36):
They didn't get that. They got two. And I think
that part of the thinking along the lines of this
is we will.

Speaker 5 (01:06:43):
Be quote unquote competitive because it'll be easier to get
in with additional wildcard teams.

Speaker 12 (01:06:50):
Right, and you're here's out from this if this happens.

Speaker 5 (01:06:53):
Teams that are starting to set themselves up now with
their media rights, with how they're positioning their teams are
more inclined. I think, along with this pressure of trying
to get an audience, are gonna start to say, we
need to be competitive. We can't just sit back and
collect money. The a's right are the best example of this.
They can't do that stuff forever. I mean, they're gonna

(01:07:15):
live on revenue sharing as much as possible, but they can't.
And so I think that this is ultimately a good
forcing what I call a forcing function. Hey, you're gonna
have to be good here once you start to make
your product available all a cart where somebody goes, I
just want to watch my team when they're good and
not when they're bad. I can re sign up when

(01:07:37):
they get better. It's going to force them to try
and get better. I think that's the best part of this.
I appreciate you jumping on very short notice. You were
the first person I thought of when I saw to this.
When I saw the announcement, I knew people had questions.
I tried to get them answered. You answer them. You're
the best.

Speaker 12 (01:07:53):
Thanks Mary, all right, you take care Manthanks so much
for having me.

Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
You got to appreciate you doing this, Mary Brown from
Forbes Business of Sports. I care mainly about one thing. Okay,
the Reds TV broadcast. You know great announcers John Sadak
and Barry Larkin. Jeff Brantley does some TV games. You
got Sam Lequier, you got Brian Geesen's log, you got
Jim Day, got Anny Sabo. I care about one thing

(01:08:18):
more than anything else. Okay, this is what I care about.
Whatever the TV broadcasts look like next year, it still
must include those segments where Chris Welsh puts on a
pair of baseball pants goes out to a backfield at
spring training. Grabs a current player like a Spencer Steer

(01:08:39):
and teaches the viewer how to do stuff like field
ground balls. If I don't get those segments, Chris Welsh
baseball pants, active player teaching me something. Here's how to
catch a throw at first base. Okay, here's how to
spit out sunflower seats. Here's how to back up third base.
Here's how to circle a bunt. As long as that

(01:09:00):
is still a part of the Reds TV broadcast and
Chris has to wear the baseball pants, We're good to go.

Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
That's all I care about. Are we going? Right to
Dan Claskins here, Taren? What are we doing?

Speaker 11 (01:09:12):
All right?

Speaker 2 (01:09:13):
We have a badly managed the clock yet again. Dan
Klaskins is here to help us with our fantasy football teams.
Get sports info dot com? Is uh live radio?

Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
Is that is that him online?

Speaker 11 (01:09:24):
Eight? All right?

Speaker 1 (01:09:29):
Hi Dan, I have never been better in my life.
How about yourself?

Speaker 3 (01:09:38):
Oh?

Speaker 11 (01:09:38):
Fired up?

Speaker 3 (01:09:39):
Fired up man? We NFL trade deadline a couple of
weeks ago. It's fantasy trade deadlines. I think James Orpeenees
probably sending me a deal right now as we speaking.

Speaker 11 (01:09:48):
One of our Stevens.

Speaker 1 (01:09:48):
All right, Well, I have a I have a rule.
This should be a rule in fantasy football leagues.

Speaker 12 (01:09:53):
Are you ready?

Speaker 3 (01:09:55):
I'm ready, I'm okay interested in all right.

Speaker 2 (01:09:58):
As you know him in two leagues now. In the
one league, I'm in first place, eight and two. Right,
I'm I'm cruising toward at least a regular season title.
In the other league, I'm free and seven.

Speaker 11 (01:10:09):
But I'm in.

Speaker 2 (01:10:10):
I'm in a league where you know, there's there's you
can You can get in at five hundred in the
playoffs and you're fine. So this past week, I go
to bed on Sunday night after Lions Texans and I'm
winning by like forty five points. But the dude that
I'm playing had like five Rams and Dolphins. New rule,
you shouldn't be allowed to have more than two players
play on Monday night.

Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
Oh my gosh, because he came back and beat me.

Speaker 1 (01:10:35):
I like eight, Like he came back and beat me,
and now I'm cooked.

Speaker 3 (01:10:41):
Well, you know, at least that's why you played more
than one team. So you're already fallowing some of my
best advice. Don't put all your eggs.

Speaker 11 (01:10:46):
In one bet.

Speaker 2 (01:10:48):
Very very sure. All right, we're ten weeks in. Let's
go inside some fantasy football numbers.

Speaker 3 (01:10:53):
Yeah, big news last week with Christian McCaffrey coming back,
and yeah, there was some level of uncertainty of what
is used to was going to look like MO, But
I think our questions were answered. Eighty eight percent snapshare,
thirty five routes of the thirty eight of routes ran
by running backs. There, and here's a guy that still
fall a fifth of the team's target So I like

(01:11:14):
him quite a bit. I think he could be a
league winner down the stretch for teams where he actually
were able to stay in there with number one pick
out for them weeks. Devonte Adams hasn't been as good
of a story. It was pretty ugly last week, but
on a positive side, thirty nine point four percent target
share season highs thirteen targets, so I don't know if
Rogers can ever even get remotely close. I wouldn't give

(01:11:35):
up hope on Adams yet, but it's not looking good.
I'm definitely not giving up ok on CJ.

Speaker 11 (01:11:40):
Shodd.

Speaker 3 (01:11:40):
You realize he hasn't finished the top twelve quarterback in
weekly scoring since Week four when he faced the jag,
So I mean that's a long stretch of it. So
hopefully getting ego comics back. We'll talk about that in
a minute.

Speaker 11 (01:11:51):
That should help.

Speaker 3 (01:11:52):
But he might be a bylow guy right now. As
those tread dimes, deadline hits and the most obscure stat
I have for you of the week a bride, I'm
thinking to myself, Man, this guy's a fantasy stud. I
wish he had him on more teams. Five hundred and
fifty two receiving yards. Dude hasn't got a touchdown yet,
And to put that into perspective, this year, tight ends
have scored a receiving touchdown as a position as a

(01:12:12):
whole for about every one hundred and seventy receiving yards.

Speaker 11 (01:12:15):
So he's like five x past what the norm is.

Speaker 3 (01:12:18):
Man, if he was scoring touchdowns, I can't imagine how
much he would be a fantasy stud.

Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
Dan Klaskins with us good Sports info dot Com. Let's
run through some of the key Week eleven injuries.

Speaker 3 (01:12:29):
Well, let's talk tonight.

Speaker 11 (01:12:31):
Good news.

Speaker 3 (01:12:31):
Looks like Brianminson Junior is gonna be good to go
tonight as the Commanders make their way to Philly for
Eagles in a game with a total approaching fifty points. Here,
Robinson Junior obviously gonna split some time there with Eckler,
but I still like him as an RB too. He's
certainly in the talks there at receivers where most of
the noises this week and Tyreek Hill with that risk

(01:12:51):
issue must talk about obviously. This past week on Monday Night,
the numbers have been dismal, but he is looking like
he's going to be good and go this week. The
matchup much better versus the Raiders. It could be a
bounce back of the week there. We're keeping our eyes
on Nco Collins open he can return to Texan set
to play on Monday night though, so hopefully we get
some firm answers on that before then. Obviously, T Higgins,

(01:13:12):
I'm sure you've been update and his status definitely trending
in a positive direction for fantasy managers. Marviy, Cooper, DK Metcalff,
Devonte Adams all on the injury reports, but I'm thinking
all these guys are going to be good to go.
Keep your eyes on that. On Friday, Nazi Harris hurt
himself last week with an ankle issue with a full
participant today, So the Steelers with a big matchup versus
the Ravens, either way, Harris is like two point five

(01:13:34):
yards to carry, so unless he gets a touchdown, game
flow could hurt him as well. But we'll use him
if we need him. With four teams on by tank,
Big B hasn't practice all week. I don't think he's
going to play this week for the Jags. And then
a couple stud tight ends on trending towards missing this
week as they've yet to practice. Dam Laporta with a
shoulder issue for the Lions and the Bills. Dalton Kincaid

(01:13:56):
with the knee injury could miss this week's big matchup.

Speaker 11 (01:14:00):
The Bills and the Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (01:14:01):
All Right, I need your studs, duds and sleepers.

Speaker 3 (01:14:05):
Well, I mean, we've been rolling with him in a
lot of ways this season, but Joe Mixon continues to
be that guy though, and it's all about volume. Over
his last four games, russia attempts of.

Speaker 8 (01:14:15):
Twenty five, twenty five, twenty four and twenty five.

Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
That certainly makes him a stud. I love what I'm
seeing from George Pickens, the Steelers receiver, another.

Speaker 11 (01:14:24):
On my stud list this week.

Speaker 3 (01:14:25):
He's basically doubling his points per game with Russell Wilson
about eighteen PPR. Points where he was averaging in just
over nine with Justin Field, so I love him. I
think it's going to be a high scoring game there.
On the dud side, I am a little reluctant to
play Jordan Love. I mean I'm going to use him
in most cases. He's outside my top ten. I think
the Bears offense is terrible, but their dee's been pretty

(01:14:46):
good and vermondre Stevenson. The matchup first, the Rams not
a great one. I mean they were a little bit
disappointing on Monday Night in their loss. But Stevenson's a
guy that you know, he just doesn't get in a
lot of production there hasn't finished with the game of
over four yards could carry but just twice on the season.
But the volumes there, so that should work out. But
I'm sitting in this week and some sleepers. I mean,

(01:15:07):
it's not rocket science quarterbacks against the Bengals and that
secondary seemed pretty good. But Justin Herbsten Gooding coming into
this matchup nineteenth to points in Fantasy three straight weeks.
I think he eclipses that mark for ease again on Sunday.
And Calvin Ridley little red hot ever since DeAndre Hopkins.

Speaker 11 (01:15:24):
Has left town.

Speaker 3 (01:15:25):
That target share has gone up to thirty six percent,
and you know he's up to twenty one or excuse me,
twenty point one PPR points per game with dal Hopkins.
He was just seven and a half point PPR points
per game before d hok got dealt. So Tom Ridley
looking like he could be a guy to pretty useful
down the stretch here.

Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
Dan Klaskins on X at Dan Klaskins, what's happening at
good Sports info dot com.

Speaker 3 (01:15:49):
Well, get all the great stuff there. I've got the
bets for tonight office pool picks, and of course the
latest Fantistics Insider podcast. But as you mentioned, you can
hit me on X there at Dan Claskins and man
I am it's actually going to be another pretty fantasy
friendly Thursday night here, So hopefully one of my seventeen
teams that I don't end up down fifty years last week,
I have you want to talk about bad fancy Lamb.

(01:16:10):
I woke up Thursday going against two two in my
nine leagues, two Burroughs Chase that I was down like
a hundred points before I even got a.

Speaker 11 (01:16:17):
Player to play.

Speaker 1 (01:16:20):
I wish I was on the other end of that man.
That's right.

Speaker 11 (01:16:25):
Engles with it like it was worth it, but now
I got nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:16:28):
Double whammy. Yeah, been there, all right, Dan, thanks so much?
All right, all right, Bengals played the Chargers on Sunday night.
We'll go to Los Angeles next. It's the Orthosincia Mowegor
show ESPN in fifteen thirty. Hey, it's mogar whether it's
pro football or college football. And no matter who you
root for, there's no better place to post up for
the game than Long Neck Sports Grill. Three locations in

(01:16:50):
Northern Kentucky, Wilder, Hebron and rich Wood. Each Long Necks
has four k TVs all over the place and the
sound is on for all the big games.

Speaker 1 (01:16:59):
They've got an extensive menu.

Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
You've got to try Long next wings and no place
in Northern Kentucky or anywhere has a better beer selection
this football season. Long Neck Sports Grill, stay long, come often.

Speaker 4 (01:17:13):
No one covers the Bengals a right, let's go, yes, yes,
yeah fifteen Kennedy.

Speaker 12 (01:17:16):
We have a guest by sports station.

Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
And it's busy Hi six after five, ESPN fifteen thirty,
Alo Edgar, thank you for listening.

Speaker 1 (01:17:23):
Porthos Cinci moo Egger show.

Speaker 2 (01:17:25):
Our buddy Robert Winshaup in fifteen Minutes is weekly Bengals
column at Cincinnati Magazine. Is first, Let's go to Los Angeles.
Bengals go there tomorrow, play the Chargers on Sunday night
and h and learn more about Sunday's opponent. Eric Smith
Chargers dot Com kind enough on short notice to give
us a few minutes to talk about this game.

Speaker 1 (01:17:45):
Eric, It's good to have you.

Speaker 11 (01:17:46):
How are you.

Speaker 15 (01:17:48):
I'm doing great, doing great? Yeah, done it For a
big primetime matchup on Sunday.

Speaker 8 (01:17:52):
It should be a good one.

Speaker 1 (01:17:53):
Gonna be a good game.

Speaker 2 (01:17:55):
You get Herbert, you get Burrow, you get two teams
that are playoff hopeful Chargers among the seven that would qualify.
Right now, Bengals on the outside looking in, We've got
to start by talking about Jim Harball. Certainly somebody in
this part of the country that we have talked about
a lot, and you know, from two thousand miles away
you could see some of his impact. But for those
of us who are maybe not as close as you

(01:18:16):
are to the team and the organization, give us an
idea of where his fingerprints are seeing the most.

Speaker 15 (01:18:24):
Everything I think that that's a good place to start.
You know, when the chire when when the Chargers hired
Harball in January, they needed a pretty much a total
revamp everywhere in the organization and on the football side.
And he had done that, whether that's coaching, you know,
turning over the roster, working with the front office. He
has touched it all and you're seeing the results already.

Speaker 3 (01:18:48):
You know.

Speaker 15 (01:18:48):
I know a lot of people thought externally outside the building.

Speaker 3 (01:18:52):
You know, the Chargers might not be good this year.

Speaker 15 (01:18:55):
You know, over under wins it is like eight and
a half. But they're something that that Harball does. You
know that that that magic where he just kind of
gets teams to fit his image, you know, and his
mold and his play style, uh, just everything. And you know,
you look up in mid November and the Chargers of
six and three, like you said, they're in the playoffs

(01:19:17):
right now with a long way to go. But he's
done it again. You know, he's done it everywhere he's
been and and here we are halfway through the year
and the Chargers are.

Speaker 2 (01:19:25):
Rolling, rolling with a very good defense that's coached by
Jesse Minner, somebody who I met when he was a
freshman in college at Mount Saint Joe here in Cincinnati,
when his dad was coaching at the University of Cincinnati.
How much of an impact has Jesse had on that
Chargers defense?

Speaker 11 (01:19:41):
Quite a bit, quite a bit.

Speaker 15 (01:19:43):
Yeah, I mean, I think Jim Harball said this week
that he only expects Jesse to be here this year
because he's probably going to be a hot name for
head coaching commodities in the offseason. But I think if
you look at at the Chargers defense and didn't really
the Rocker did really turn over that much from previous years,

(01:20:03):
you know, if you look at it, like Khalil Mackett
still here, Joey Bosa, Grwyn James, like most of the
big name guys are here, but clearly on the field,
like the unit overall is playing much better than the
advantage the last couple of years. It was pretty disappointing,
I would say from a success standpoint. And one thing

(01:20:24):
that players and coaches and everyone sort of talked about
out here, it's just Jesse's ability to just teach it
in simple terms, you know. I think sometimes we get
so caught up with you know, schemes and x's and
no's and there's a lot of that that goes on.
But Jesse said last week, He's like, it doesn't matter
if you're coaching NFL football or third grade math. You'd
have to be able to break it down for people

(01:20:45):
to understand. And that's something that I think was missing
here for the last couple of years. And you obviously
see it on the field. You know, on Sundays, the
Charger's defense is flying around, they play fast. You know,
they're not giving up a ton of big plays. There's
been a few here and there, but yeah, it's working,
and he's a big reason why.

Speaker 2 (01:21:06):
When they've won this year, it's kind of felt like,
you know, almost rinse repeat right, wear opponents down with
the run game, get Herbert to make a couple of plays,
and then just let the defense do its thing.

Speaker 1 (01:21:17):
Walk me through what they're gonna do.

Speaker 2 (01:21:18):
If this game on Sunday or a game later in
the year and they have a lot of tough opponents
on their schedule forces them to kind of deviate from
that formula.

Speaker 15 (01:21:28):
Yeah, if it turns out that way, then I think
you have to rely on Justin Herbert, who obviously has
the ability to put the game on his shoulder and
carry carry the charger that needed. You guys really had
to do that this year, which is something different than
we've seen in previous seasons because the last couple of years,
you know, we mentioned the defense being up and down.

(01:21:49):
It was okay, Justin, let's you know, we kind of
need to play Superman here, score you know, score thirty
five points and try to win us the game.

Speaker 11 (01:21:58):
They haven't had to do that. You know.

Speaker 15 (01:21:59):
The defense hasn't allowed more than than twenty points all season.
You know, so the formula, like you said, has been working.
It's clearly the Jim Harbaugh formula. But if they have
to get away from that, and if it does turn
into a shootout, Herbert has shown them that he can
do that, he can put the game on his shoulders
and score thirty five points. It's just been nice that

(01:22:22):
he hasn't had to so far, you know, and that
formula it's working because, like I said, we're six and three,
and you know, the hope here is that we can
just kind of continue it. But if it changes, you know,
I think people here have plenty of confidence in Justin
to pick up the slack and leave the way.

Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
Good stuff man, enjoy the game on Sunday night. Thank
you so much.

Speaker 15 (01:22:46):
Okay, thanks for having me there you go.

Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
I do appreciate it. Eric Smith Chargers dot com. I
like the fact that he said we it is twelve
minutes after five o'clock. It's the bud Light five o'clock.

Speaker 1 (01:22:55):
Happy ho.

Speaker 2 (01:22:56):
We're on ESPN fifteen thirty. This is our last show
the week, which means it's it's I guess it would
be my Friday, and uh well, it means a ice
Cold bud Light is in my future and probably more
than one.

Speaker 1 (01:23:09):
Make it a part of yours.

Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
Make it a part of your football weekend, or even
if you're not making a part of your college basketball weekend,
make it a part of your weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:23:18):
Make it a part of your life.

Speaker 12 (01:23:19):
Ice Cold Bud, Like I get a part of your
Tyson Paul fight them all?

Speaker 11 (01:23:22):
All right?

Speaker 2 (01:23:22):
You got a second on that, Tarran Tyson Paul, I
I have I have no like. I couldn't tell you
who's going to win. I feel like if I were
to wager on this, it would be Tyson. I told
you this when they announced the fight. I grew up
sort of on the tail end of like boxing being
a real huge deal in this country.

Speaker 1 (01:23:44):
But when it was a big deal.

Speaker 2 (01:23:46):
When I was a kid, Mike Tyson fights were enormous
and you would beg your parents to buy them and
sometimes they would last ninety seconds. Allah Michael Spinks when
Tyson beat him, and I think it was ninety one seconds,
or Carl the Truth Williams.

Speaker 1 (01:23:59):
I think he beat him in like two minutes.

Speaker 2 (01:24:01):
They were these events, and you know, somebody had to
beg their mom or dad to buy it on pay
per view, and you they were awesome. They were awesome,
and he was terrifying. And you talk about like massive
sports upsets. I'll never forget where I was when he
lost to Buster Douglas.

Speaker 1 (01:24:17):
That game was.

Speaker 2 (01:24:18):
That fight was actually not It was on cables on HBO.
It was not a pay per view fight. I So
I'm excited for the nostalgic part of this Tomorrow night.
I'll be watching it in Des Moine with Tony. We
are fired up for this. You're a boxing guy, are
you pumped up for tomorrow night? Or is this too
much novelty for you? Too much novelty, Hans is it?

Speaker 11 (01:24:39):
I mean?

Speaker 16 (01:24:40):
Twenty seven year old Jake Paul was a YouTuber got
in the boxing because I guess he was bored. Yeah,
fighting a fifty seven year old Mike Tyson. Yeah yeah,
I mean.

Speaker 12 (01:24:48):
Obviously going to watch though, yes, of course it might be.

Speaker 1 (01:24:51):
Too much novelty, but you're going to it. It's like,
you know, all these people look.

Speaker 2 (01:24:55):
Down their nose when Connor McGregor fought Floyd Mayweather, and
then they still watched it.

Speaker 12 (01:25:00):
That was good because both of those guys are still
in their prime.

Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
Fine fair, But like you know, folks complained about the
novelty and this is stupid, and then what do they
do on that Saturday night? They bought it or they
found someone who did. So this is a Netflix production, correct, Yes,
if you have Netflix, you can watch it. Do you
know anything about so? You know, typically if you were
to get like a pay per view fight, you would
order it. It starts at eight and there's like seven

(01:25:22):
under cards. Is that the case tomorrow night?

Speaker 12 (01:25:24):
Yes, there are five hundred cards.

Speaker 2 (01:25:27):
Are they real fights or are they like YouTube guys
against washed up former boxers too?

Speaker 12 (01:25:31):
No, most of these are are real boxers.

Speaker 11 (01:25:33):
What is uh?

Speaker 1 (01:25:34):
What are are Jake? Is it Jake Paul or Logan Paul?
What's the difference?

Speaker 11 (01:25:38):
This is Jake.

Speaker 1 (01:25:38):
This is Logan, also a fighter.

Speaker 12 (01:25:40):
Logan he more dabble was in wrestling.

Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
Oh, he's a wrestler. So Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson,
what does the winner get? Is there like a belt?

Speaker 12 (01:25:48):
I'm not sure what the winner?

Speaker 1 (01:25:49):
They gat? A bag of cash?

Speaker 12 (01:25:51):
I mean, I'm pretty sure they're both getting a lot
of money.

Speaker 1 (01:25:54):
Yeah, but does the winner get more?

Speaker 11 (01:25:57):
No?

Speaker 12 (01:25:57):
I think I think it's pretty set right now at
what they at what they get.

Speaker 2 (01:26:00):
So Mike Tyson's thirty years older than this dude, Like,
everybody my age is rooting for Mike Tyson, correct?

Speaker 1 (01:26:09):
Would that be fair?

Speaker 12 (01:26:10):
Of course?

Speaker 1 (01:26:11):
And then everybody your age is rooting for Jake Paul.
Is that correct?

Speaker 11 (01:26:14):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:26:15):
Are you rooting for Iron Mike?

Speaker 12 (01:26:18):
I am? I am, But in my heart I know
Paul's probably gonna win.

Speaker 1 (01:26:22):
Paul's gonna win. When is the last time Mike Tyson fought?

Speaker 12 (01:26:26):
Two thousand and five?

Speaker 1 (01:26:27):
Did he win?

Speaker 11 (01:26:28):
Uh? No?

Speaker 2 (01:26:30):
So Mike Tyson sort of post prison mid nineties, he
fought like Tomato cans, like Peter McNeely, and then he
fought Evander Holyfield. There was the ear biting thing. Things
kind of got off the rails. And then it felt
like Mike Tyson was in the hangover and people started
to like him again. Yeah, that's kind of what's happened.
But he hasn't fought since.

Speaker 16 (01:26:48):
Yeah, so Mike Tyson, he'll get he'll get around twenty
million for this fight, Okay, and uh win or lose?

Speaker 1 (01:26:57):
Yes, what's Paul getting?

Speaker 12 (01:26:59):
Paul gets? I got the same about twenty one?

Speaker 1 (01:27:01):
What are have you seen the betting odds on this?

Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
Uh?

Speaker 16 (01:27:04):
Yes, So as a lot of people coming in as lately,
Tyson's OSes came down tremendously really like you can get
it like now that plus one seventy five where it
started out like a like plus three hundred.

Speaker 1 (01:27:16):
How many scheduled rounds?

Speaker 12 (01:27:18):
Eight eight rounds minutes to eight two minute rounds? Yep,
fourteen ounce club?

Speaker 1 (01:27:23):
About about what time do we think that that fight
will start?

Speaker 10 (01:27:28):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:27:28):
Probably about eleven thirty, about eleven thirty Eastern time. Yeah,
I'm irrationally excited for this. I'm irrationally exciting. What does
it say about the sport of boxing?

Speaker 6 (01:27:38):
Though?

Speaker 2 (01:27:39):
That the two fights I've wanted to watch most are
the one with Connor McGregor and what was that twenty
seventeen eighteen seventeen. Yep, Yeah, Connor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather
and then this one. What does it say about the
sport of boxing that these are the two events I've
wanted to watch most.

Speaker 12 (01:27:53):
That's somebody in the sport of boxing needs to step
their separate game up. Yeah, and Tyson steels the draw
no matter how old he is.

Speaker 2 (01:27:58):
No question, Like maybe I don't know, maybe like a
twenty four one year old kid doesn't care about Mike
type if you are. I was eleven years old in
nineteen eighty eight when I watched him fight. I think
it was Spinks. I was at my friend Josh Lofton's house.
We begged his grandma to buy it on pay per view.
I remember her on hold with the cable guy we got.

(01:28:21):
It was like those fights. And I mean that Mike
ty was terrifying, like legitimately, And I admit, like I
don't watch a lot of UFC, like some of those
dudes are really scary looking. But I'm an adult, Like
you're eleven years old, Mike Tyson comes on your TV
terrifying and then beats the hell out of the dude
in like ninety seconds. I'm that's the outcome that I'm
rooting for, like this, Jake Paul guy is kind of

(01:28:42):
a punk, right, yeah. I mean a lot of people
don't like him really. Yeah, but he's a YouTuber. So
what did he do on YouTube that made him famous?
I have no idea like playing pranks on people and stuff.

Speaker 12 (01:28:52):
Yeah I can't.

Speaker 1 (01:28:52):
Yeah, all right, Well, Mike Tyson wins, maybe I'll put some.

Speaker 16 (01:28:55):
Money on and then Tysonna some of the interviews leading
up to this fight is giving the fans oh hope
because some of the stuff he's saying in the interview.

Speaker 2 (01:29:02):
I watched an interview he did with like a thirteen
year old girl during one of the breaks, and he
was like f bombing all over the joint. Yeah yeah,
all right, Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. What is Logan
Paul going to be there? Probably Robert Wintroup will join
us next.

Speaker 12 (01:29:18):
This is Football.

Speaker 4 (01:29:19):
Inninnatti wrote to you in part by blood Light and
by Skyline Hillie on the official home of the Bengals,
Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 1 (01:29:29):
I was not here last Thursday.

Speaker 2 (01:29:31):
It was in Baltimore, and every time somebody asked me
where I was from, I told him the Natty. That
trip meant I didn't get a chance to talk to
Robert Wintraub, but we get to talk.

Speaker 1 (01:29:41):
To him today.

Speaker 2 (01:29:42):
His latest Bengals column for Cincinnati Magazine is up. Go
read it now at Cincinnati Magazine dot com. I've missed you.

Speaker 1 (01:29:50):
What's going on?

Speaker 11 (01:29:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:29:52):
When people ask me where I'm from and I say
the Lampta, no that he really understands what that is.

Speaker 12 (01:29:57):
So I suppose so.

Speaker 6 (01:30:00):
Bad to be from the Natty and say that to
this despicable Ravens fans.

Speaker 11 (01:30:04):
What do they know anyway?

Speaker 1 (01:30:05):
Well, they know their team one.

Speaker 6 (01:30:07):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:30:08):
I can't talk about that game without talking about the
decision to go for two at the end.

Speaker 1 (01:30:12):
I'm team two point conversion in that instance, I know
you are to roll through it. For me, Yeah, it's
a no brainer.

Speaker 6 (01:30:20):
I'm also of the opinion that even if they had
made it and taken the lead, there was still enough
time for Lamar to get down the field and Baltimore
to kick the winning field goal, So in some ways
it's not even a discussion.

Speaker 1 (01:30:31):
So yeah, it's a no brainer to go for it.

Speaker 7 (01:30:34):
There.

Speaker 6 (01:30:34):
You're on the road, your defense's gas, they can't stop Baltimore.
They can't stop anybody, your best players. Joe Burrow put
the ball in his hands and rolled the dice from there,
And you know, two point conversions have kind of gone
downhill the successor ratio, not just this year but overall.

Speaker 10 (01:30:51):
Really it's in par with the way red.

Speaker 6 (01:30:54):
Zone success has gone downhill. It's sort of a decade
long trend, and you know, teams are defending it better.

Speaker 1 (01:31:01):
It's a high leverage situation.

Speaker 6 (01:31:02):
It's a high leverage play that you know only happens
and key usually and key elements of the game in
the fourth quarter when either making a comeback or the
game is on the line, so they're you know, they're
not that easy, and teams don't have a lot of
go to plays for that situation. You'd like to see
the Bengals sort of develop at least a couple more
plays that are just specific for two pointers that they
can really rely on, and you know, they don't seem

(01:31:24):
to have them, but neither do a lot of teams
around the league and get teams that are successful more
often than that, like we saw on Thursday, or teams
with a player like Lamar Jacks, and you can just
sort of take anything even if it turns into chicken
droppings and make chicken.

Speaker 11 (01:31:37):
Salad out of it.

Speaker 6 (01:31:37):
So usually Joe Burrow is good at that, but he
tends to need a little bit more field to really
unleash his superpower looking downfield and making plays out of
the pocket, not necessarily running and been for two points.

Speaker 9 (01:31:49):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:31:49):
It's interesting so that the two point conversion came in
came into place in the NFL in nineteen ninety four,
was actually scored against the Bengals Tom Tupa Right. So
for about twenty to twenty five years, offl kind of
a fifty to fifty play. I read going into week
nine this year, the conversion success rate was thirty one percent.

Speaker 1 (01:32:06):
That is a steep dropoff.

Speaker 6 (01:32:09):
Yeah, and that's what we're saying, and it's it sort
of mirrors the way that overall red zone success has
gone downhill. And you know, defensive coordinators, from their perspective,
that's a must play to stop.

Speaker 12 (01:32:20):
And it's it's kind of like a three.

Speaker 6 (01:32:21):
Pointer in basketball. You know, the opposition can make it
a much more regular part of their offense. They're going
to go for it more often and we're going to
see a lot more sixteen to eight scores rather than
fourteen to seven scores early on. So it's it's you know,
in the best interests of the defense to really practice
heavily to stop it. The sort of as we mentioned before,
the amount of space available for the offense to run

(01:32:43):
its regular playbook is very limited, so the advantage there
for the defense. I think it started out as closer
to a fifty to fifty preposition, like you said, because
defenses weren't necessarily prepared for it, and the advantage was
with the newcomers for a while, and we're seeing that
level out, you know, expected to go back up. As
these things do, they sort of tend to wax and

(01:33:04):
wayne as different ideas and different coaches with different schemes
com into being. But for right now, it's a tough
play to make and tough play to convert. And you know,
given the fact that everything is so tilted toward the
offense in general, maybe not such a.

Speaker 12 (01:33:18):
Bad thing overall.

Speaker 2 (01:33:19):
You are are one of the smartest people I know,
so maybe you can give me a smart, smart explanation
as to why they take Mike off the field as
Mike Hilton off the field as much as they do.
I can't even talk. That's how dumb I am. So
how why do they take Mike Hilton off the field
as much as they do?

Speaker 12 (01:33:34):
And Mike's a smart guy too, it's forget that.

Speaker 6 (01:33:37):
Yeah, well, I mean take him off the field.

Speaker 8 (01:33:40):
I think we're talking.

Speaker 6 (01:33:41):
About third downs me right, Yes, take him off the field.
And that's you know, that's sort of a slot corner's
lot in life, depending on the situation that down in distance.

Speaker 12 (01:33:49):
Especially.

Speaker 6 (01:33:51):
In Mike's case. You know, he's five nine, as a
lot of slot corners are. He's not the biggest fellow.
He's a matchup disadvantage when the team goes to multiple
tight ends, let's say, or can't necessarily run with certain
wide receivers that are put on the field. I think
it's got a lot of publicity and it's a talking
point in Cincinnati right now because there's so few players

(01:34:14):
playing well on defense.

Speaker 12 (01:34:15):
Mike cap has been one of them.

Speaker 6 (01:34:16):
And he's a vet you's sort of living up to
for the most part, his reputation, unlike many other players
on the Bengals defense. So you want him on the
field basically every play. But I think from lu An
Rumo's standpoint, it's less that and more you know, hey,
we're going to you know, get the tight end boxing
him out for an easy third down conversion. Let's see
if we can do and put somebody a little bit

(01:34:38):
bigger on the field maybe to try and match up.
But clearly that hasn't worked either, So I mean at
this point, I think they're just throwing anything out there
that may work, and we may see Hilton's third down
snaps maybe tick up as a result. Just you know,
play base and go with what your best players and
you know, hope for the best.

Speaker 2 (01:34:55):
It feels like on a weekly basis, we talk about
a different roster efficiency that we didn't talk so much
about the week before, which tells me the off season
to do list is going to be longer than it's
been in quite a while. With the way things stand
right now, with obviously still a big chunk of the
season in front of them.

Speaker 1 (01:35:13):
What's at the top of that list for you.

Speaker 6 (01:35:15):
Well, it depends on are you talking on field or
are we talking off field. Let's go on field, all right,
Let's stick with you, because we both know that the
GM and the head.

Speaker 12 (01:35:24):
Coach are not going anywhere.

Speaker 6 (01:35:25):
We may see a you know, a coordinator toss to
the Alligators, but that's a whole nother story. I still
think it's it's pass rush. Past rush is sort of
the you know er issue with the Bengals this season
and really in previous seasons as well.

Speaker 12 (01:35:40):
You know, we said it many times.

Speaker 15 (01:35:43):
You and I have talked about it.

Speaker 6 (01:35:44):
It's Trey Hendrickson or nothing with the squad, and it's
just not sustainable. You look at a team like the
opponent on Sunday Night, the Chargers. They're getting it from
not only their big name guys Joey Bosa Khuil Mack,
but from you know, guys who are less known and
younger players like two year their Samoan uh, you know,

(01:36:05):
pass rush linebacker whose name I always mangle, so I
won't even try. But the point is they're getting a
lot of pass rush from a lot of sources.

Speaker 11 (01:36:12):
And that's why they've.

Speaker 12 (01:36:13):
Been really successful this season.

Speaker 6 (01:36:15):
Uh you know, they they're they're excellent against the pass
and a lot of that is because of their pass rush,
not necessarily their coverage. And the Bengals are really having
an issue there. Every quarterback who comes in has just
all day to survey the field, and you know, it's
something that every team wants obviously, and the Bengals have
certainly addressed it at least, you know, in theory, they

(01:36:37):
just haven't gotten any kind of performance out of you know,
Sheldon Rankins and their free agent acquisitions or Joseph O
said Miles Murphy, their their higher draft picks that they've
looked to address this pass rush efficiency.

Speaker 12 (01:36:49):
So you know, you're just gonna have to keep trying.

Speaker 6 (01:36:52):
It looks like to me until you get a couple
of guys who can be relied upon to get to
the quarterback with some regularity, and said beyond just having
Trey Hendrickson be your only answer at that pisoide.

Speaker 2 (01:37:04):
Yeah, no question about that. Good stuff. I'm glad I
got a chance to talk to you this week. I'd
missed you.

Speaker 1 (01:37:09):
Well, you know what, I'm not here next Thursday either, Wow,
oh my.

Speaker 11 (01:37:12):
Goodness, mode.

Speaker 2 (01:37:13):
But you know, stranger what, I'm gonna be in Atlanta
next weekend, So just keep that in mind.

Speaker 15 (01:37:19):
I'm here and ready for you.

Speaker 1 (01:37:21):
Was always in the Atlanta Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (01:37:23):
I'm coming to the Atlanta Bearcats v. Georgia Tech. So
I'll figure out a way to get a.

Speaker 1 (01:37:28):
Hold of you.

Speaker 6 (01:37:29):
Let's do it and we'll talk about past rush efficiencies
while we're watching basketball.

Speaker 12 (01:37:34):
I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (01:37:34):
There you come, Robert White for rita Is Bengals column
at Cincinnati Magazine dot com.

Speaker 1 (01:37:39):
Thank you as always, Thanks both. All right, so you
got it.

Speaker 2 (01:37:42):
There's no Reds Fest this year because they're redoing the
Duke Energy Center. But one of the staples of the
off season is still happening despite there being no Reds Fest,
and it's taking place on Sunday, this time at GABP.
The seventeenth Reds Community Fund Rick Steinermore Old Texas Hold
Them Poker tournament which rolls off the Tongue. There are

(01:38:04):
spots still available. All proceeds benefit the Red's Community Fund.
The executive director of the Reds Community Fund just off
as private jet, I understand, coming back from New York.

Speaker 1 (01:38:12):
Charlie frank Is with his hydroliy.

Speaker 17 (01:38:15):
Hardly on the private jet. But yes, back in town though,
and you know, raring up for this big Sunday of
that game.

Speaker 2 (01:38:22):
It's going to be at GABP. Obviously had to make
some modifications. Thrilled that you're still doing it, but you
have slots open. So give folks an idea of what's
going to be happening on Sunday.

Speaker 17 (01:38:33):
Well, you know, usually red Fests is an enormous event
that one has averaged over five hundred players in the
close to two decades because it's what wraps up red
Sveets weekend. But we built such a tremendous community of
the poker playing community that you know, we decided to
keep it rolling. It should be fun at the ballpark.
It's going to be smaller. We'll have closer to about

(01:38:55):
two hundred playing. The top twenty seven will win a
combination of cash and pride. This is the final three tables,
so the final thirty competitors will move down to the
Reds Clubhouse.

Speaker 11 (01:39:05):
So we're going to move everyone down to the field level.

Speaker 17 (01:39:08):
We'll be in the clubhouse. That should be pretty cool.
And then a month, if you're a top twenty seven,
you win an authenticated Red Side hat and the matching
Reds jersey. So everyone in the top twenty seven wins
the hat and jersey combination. And then you'll also, as
you know, if you get closer to the top twenty
top ten, there are cash prizes, including five thousand to

(01:39:31):
the winner, and then the top group will also receive
Opening Day tickets twenty twenty five.

Speaker 12 (01:39:38):
Oh very cool.

Speaker 2 (01:39:39):
All right, so a little bit scaled back, but still
tremendous opportunity. If you're a Reds fan or if you
just love playing poker, there are spots still available.

Speaker 1 (01:39:50):
What can people do to claim one of them?

Speaker 17 (01:39:52):
Well, if you go to Reds dot com slash Poker,
you can continue to register online through Saturday. We've got
one more email coming out through the Red's website here
in the next twenty four hours, so you know, you
can register online up until Saturday morning. And if you're
anxious and you'd rather pay at the door, you can
do that as well. We'll have you know, close to

(01:40:14):
twenty four table set up, so we will be available
for any walk up interest. And again for more information,
people should check out Reds dot com slash Poker.

Speaker 1 (01:40:25):
And you get a gift bag.

Speaker 2 (01:40:26):
There's a buffet, dinner and lots of other stuff, so
your Sunday entertainment will be pretty much taken care of.

Speaker 17 (01:40:34):
Absolutely. We thought that, you know, during the break we'd
be able to watch the kickoff of Bengals Charges, and
now we hope that everybody will be close to wrapping
up this event by the time.

Speaker 15 (01:40:45):
We kick off on Sunday night.

Speaker 17 (01:40:46):
But yeah, we'll have NFL games on. As you mentioned,
everyone gets a Reds gift package. We'll break for dinner.
There are add ons rebuys. It's really a great poker experience.
So we work with a local nonprofit poker alliance. They
are are a great partner of this event for nearly
twenty years. So it's I mean, it's really a first
class event. It's a fun event. And even though we

(01:41:07):
won't have redsest energy and atmosphere being at the ballpark
should be really cool as well.

Speaker 2 (01:41:12):
Yeah, no, it's a neat event on Sunday. Doors open
at one o'clock for registration in side games. The tournament
begins at two thirty. And again you could sign up
right now. Goodreds dot com slash Poker. I appreciate you
joining us. Hope you're having a great offseason.

Speaker 1 (01:41:29):
We'll chat soon. Man, Thanks so much.

Speaker 17 (01:41:30):
All right, thanks a lot now, I really appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (01:41:32):
Anytime, Charlie Frank again, go to Reds dot com slash
poker one o'clock registration in side games. Tournament starts at
two thirty. We are amazingly late.

Speaker 12 (01:41:43):

Speaker 1 (01:41:45):
We have to come back.

Speaker 2 (01:41:46):
I mean six o'clock is twenty three minutes from now.
I don't want to get the memo that asked why
why did you end the show at five thirty? Said
we'll come back. We'll have Something'll do my best hotlines.
You wanse who that is?

Speaker 1 (01:42:01):
Should we answer it on air?

Speaker 12 (01:42:03):
Sure?

Speaker 9 (01:42:04):
No?

Speaker 12 (01:42:04):
I don't know if we could do that?

Speaker 5 (01:42:06):
All right?

Speaker 2 (01:42:06):
