better beer selection this football season. Long Neck Sports Grill,
Stay long, come often.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Bengals like ESPN fifteen to thirty, Cincinnati's sports station.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
And away we go. It's cold outside, but it's hot
here in the studios at Cincinnati ESPN fifteen thirty. I'm chan,
thank you for choosing me. What a crappy Thursday afternoon.
(01:15):
Curl up by the fire. Maybe get you a hot chocolate,
throw a little something extra in there. Let's do some
sports talk radio to keep you warm. Tarren Land on
the ones and twos, Taran, how are you this wonderful Thursday?
Speaker 5 (01:32):
You know that that our lunch is messed with my
stomach right now? Oh no, that's not good. Yeah, I'm sorry.
I mean it was it tasted good, No, it it
was phenomenal. But somebody's toilet is gonna be in trouble
in in a few hours.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
Hopefully not while we're in the middle of a segment.
We'll figure it out. We'll figure it out. Bye week
for the Cincinnati Bengals, but we still have a lot
of Bengals to talk about, so that'll that'll kind of
be the driving force of today. We'll hear from Lee
Sterling here at three point thirty to get his picks
(02:15):
of the week in college and the NFL. We'll hear
from Dan Claston Classkins to get you caught up on
some fantasy football, much much like mo. With the Bengals
on a bye week, Jay Morrison taking this Thursday off
and that's okay to get a little rest for Jay.
(02:36):
But that's okay. We have a lot to get to.
We'll talk some Xavier. We'll hear from Sean Miller and
Sean Miller using his postgame press conference to send a
message last night, which you know, you usually don't see
a lot of message sending in an eighty to fifty
five win where you hit double digit threes and you know,
(03:00):
from the surface, everything looks really positive. You hold the
opponent to fifty five points. But I think when we
get to his message, and we'll do this in the
four o'clock hour, when we get to Sewn's message, I
think you have to look at the way that college
(03:20):
basketball has changed and the way that coaches are having
to handle the approach of your team being pretty new
every year, and especially in a lot of cases, you know,
when you do what Xavier did last year, which is
(03:42):
kind of at the reset button on the roster, and
they did a really good job bringing in talented players,
guys that were in many cases either the best player
or one of the two or three best players on
their previous squad. There needs to be some some adjustment
(04:03):
of maybe expectations, some understanding of role allocation, and maybe
you're not going to be the guy right now. Maybe
you're going to be the guy that comes in for
the guy and gives us some minutes, or you're going
to be the guy that is now supporting a couple
other guys, and you're not going to be asked to
(04:26):
be the guy at the top of the stat sheet,
And there is a an adjustment for that. There is
a need to make guys understand where they fit, make
guys understand that we don't need you to do this.
(04:46):
So if that's all you care about, you're gonna have
a hard time getting on the floor because we need
you to do this and this and this. We've got
the main thing they've Xavier's got what they're looking Zach Fremantle,
Ryan Conwell, you know the top of their roster is
is not looking for stars. They're looking for as soldiers,
(05:12):
and those used to be developed internally, and now you're
bringing guys in externally that maybe haven't ever been in
that role or haven't been in that role in a
long time. So it's sad, you know, when you listen
just the on the surface, when you listen to what
Seawn Miller said last night, I'm sure some people are
(05:32):
kind of scratching their head going they won eighty to
fifty five, and that game was never really in question
outside of you know that sometimes it takes you five
ten minutes to pull away in a game. The game
doesn't instantly start and you jump up seventeen to three
and things cruise from there. You have that occasionally, but
(05:53):
you know, when you're Sienna's a decent mid major. They've
got a good coach and Jerry McNamara in his first year.
They've got some good talent. So it takes a little
while to create that separation. But Xavier created that separation
and kept it most of the night. Maybe fans were surprised,
but I'm gonna I'm gonna help you understand why Sean
(06:14):
Miller's message was what it was because he also knows
there's a tougher portion of the schedule that's about to hit,
and then next thing you know, it's going to be
Big East play and you're going to be rolling through
a high major conference and you need to get guys
where they need to be. We'll hear from Wes Miller,
(06:35):
who had a media availability today. That's how dedicated I am.
Tarn I came here instead of going to the Wes
Miller media availability.
Speaker 6 (06:45):
And I'm pretty sure it was probably lets you hear
about it too, No. I. I let him know yesterday.
We spoke yesterday briefly and I said, don't you know,
don't get on me. I've got a previous commitment that
you know, somebody has to be here.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
When Moe canned and he understood or at least he
said he understood. But the next time we have a
press conference, I'm sure he'll let me know about it.
But the Bearcats take on Georgia Tech on the road Saturday,
so we'll hear from Wes. We'll talk a little bit
about the Bearcats and what an incredible start to his
(07:25):
senior season for Simas Lukoshius, who has been fantastic so
far this year. We'll talk a little recruiting. I know
people are excited about the potential of a Bearcats adding
a five star to the twenty twenty five recruiting class.
You heard me call in yesterday. If you're a regular
to this show, you heard me call in yesterday and
(07:46):
talk about this. But I'll add on to it a
little bit today and let you know where things are
at in that process. And then Bengals, I might throw
in some Reds as well, just the rumors out there
about a potential at in India trade. And if you've
listened to me at all talk Reds, you know I
think they need additional starting pitching. I think they need
(08:10):
additional pitching all around. And sometimes you have to sell
from strength. Sometimes you have to maybe let somebody go
that you didn't want to let go. And I'm going
to say something that's probably not going to be popular
about the Jonathan India situation, but it's the way I've
felt dating back two years when this franchise tried to
(08:33):
sell us that a guy coming off of his second
year was like the unquestioned clubhouse leader. And then you
start hearing stories about last season. What did you hear
those stories about last season? Guys weren't showing up on time,
Guys were skipping extra work. Guys weren't, you know, as
(08:53):
maybe as dedicated as they should be at the major
league level with a lot of young guys. That's not surprised,
but you don't have a young guy leading a bunch
of young guys. That's not how sports works. If you're
(09:14):
gonna have leadership in your locker room, then you want
to rely on somebody that's been through the battles, not
somebody that's just starting to experience them. So a little
bit of Reds, but the Bengals topics are going to
be uh front and center today. Cardile Jones said something
(09:38):
to he was Cardile Jones, the former Buckeye quarterback. I A.
Terren's a big fan said something with Tony and Mo today.
They asked him for a Joe Burrow story, and he
talked about one of the first times, you know, Joe
got in in practice and made a mistake and Irba
Meyer was screaming at him, and Joe just kind of,
you know, looked at He didn't get flustered. He just
(09:59):
kind of blank stare, yes, coach, okay, coach, I'll get
on it. Like didn't nothing really rattled him. And he
talked about that was Joe's personality kind of like you
know what. He compared him to Taran I don't know
if you heard the interview or not yet, No, compared
him to a serial killer where his expressions just don't change,
(10:19):
where his you know, emotions do not waver up and
down or back and forth. That's not that Joe we're
seeing this year, Like, that's that's Cardell saying that's the
guy I know. That's what That's what you know you
could always see inside of him. Then emotionally, he did
not waiver. We're seeing a lot more emotion out of
(10:40):
Joe this year. I think the question becomes is that
is that a good thing In the evolution of Joe
Burrow or is that a bad thing because it shows
some level of frustration that goes maybe a little deeper
than just you know, not hitting Jamar Chase on that
go ball or a couple of weeks ago when you
(11:03):
know they get a win, but Joe just does not
look happy at all. I think it's an interesting conversation
also with the Bengals, and this is this is the
uncomfortable part. They've got seven losses, they got six games
to go, they lose another game, they're probably for all
intents and purposes, not going to make the playoffs. And
(11:28):
when you get to that point in the season, especially
now we're at the bye week, unfortunately, the focus, even
if it's not happening in that locker room, the focus
around the team starts to look down the road, starts
to say what has to be different to avoid how
(11:53):
things played out this year, to avoid being that team
that over and over and over again looks good enough,
looks like they could be a threat to anybody in
the NFL. So maybe the Lions tearing the Lions might
put sixty on this Bengals defense. Yeah, and what needs
(12:19):
to happen because a lot of good things have happened
in this organization since they landed Joe Burrow, But there
are still steps that need to be taken, and until
they are taken, seasons like this are a reality years
(12:39):
where you have Joe Burrow, Joe Burrow is playing the
best of his career, Jamar Chase is playing the best
of his career, and you're in a position where you
have to win six in a row just to kind
of be in the playoff conversation, So what needs to shift,
(13:01):
What thought processes, what previous practices need to be the
next to go right? Because they've done a pretty good
job of this. They weren't active in free agency ever,
and then they got active in free agency and that
changed the trajectory of the franchise. They didn't do a
(13:23):
good job engaging the fan base and with things like
the Ring of Honor and you know, some of the
stuff they've done to open themselves up to fans being
around a little bit more, being a little bit more accessible.
They've done a great job in a lot of areas
and they've taken things that weren't right and they've corrected them.
(13:46):
There's still one big thing that needs to happen, and
if it doesn't happen. I think you once again find
yourself susceptible things like this season. If they can fix it,
I think things look a lot brighter for the long
(14:09):
term future of this organization. All right, let's take a break.
We're gonna start off with that. Phone lines are open five, one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. Come in, cuddle in. It's it's cold. I
know we're not used to this. It's that first real
cold snap of the year. Let's uh, let's let's be
(14:31):
one big team here and use sports radio to get.
Speaker 7 (14:34):
Us through it.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Smuggle with the fire, stuggle by the fire. Get you
a Joe Bourbon, maybe get you a hot chocolate, whatever
the case may be. Since that he's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Since people not exactly, let's get hill.
Speaker 7 (14:51):
That's right morning, calling your flu.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
When it comes to down to tearn on, I was
saying in my head, we got Lee coming up. We
want to go right to the get right to the
phone and get a couple of calls in before we
get to Lee at the bottom of the hour, and
then you play this and now I just want to
listen to Todayla and Redman. I'm sorry, I still I'm
still like, how was Redman here? And it breaks my
(15:19):
heart's hearing mine too. I mean, you think you know
people around here, and you know, like I like, I
don't know if I'm friends with John John anymore. Charles
wants to talk Bengals defensive coordinator. Charles, what's going on?
My friend?
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (15:38):
So real, real quick.
Speaker 9 (15:39):
First of all, I haven't been a fan of bomb Bill,
even though I'm a Buckeye saying you know that kind
of thing. I thought it was crazy that they brought
him back. I just want to know what your thoughts
are on because Rob Livingston, uh it used to be
the secondary's coach.
Speaker 10 (15:53):
For a while.
Speaker 9 (15:54):
As you as you may or may not know, he's
at Colorado. Now, what impact do you think that had
his laws had on the current you know, aside, you know,
notwithstanding the core play of vond and you know, and
that kind of thing. What impact do you think that had,
if any?
Speaker 4 (16:09):
I think it's hard to ignore that it that. I
think it's impossible to say it has no impact, right
because he's gone and they haven't been good. But what
I would say is it was, more than anything, a
gross miscalculation on the value of Jesse Bates Oh wow,
good point, because they were only a couple million dollars
(16:31):
off a year on Jesse Bates like this. This wasn't
something where you know, there was this huge gap. I
think the Bengals wanted to pay him around fourteen thirteen
fourteen million a year. He wanted eighteen nineteen million a year.
Guess what, You've thrown a lot of money at that fire.
That is just you know, has been has been fuel
(16:54):
and you lost potentially the best safety in the NFL.
And that's one of the things I wanted to get
to in this conversation and that I'm going to have today,
is you looked at it as Jesse Bates is expendable,
and we are going to have to pay all this
money for Joe. We're had to pay all this money
for Jamar and at the time they were counting in tea,
(17:16):
even though we know that that didn't work out. If
you would have paid Jesse Bates two years ago the
way that these contracts are structured now, he would have
gotten the majority of that money already going into this offseason,
and you wouldn't have had to have paid him a
ton over the next two years, and you would have
had the leader of your defense. Because before I answer
(17:38):
me this, Charles, who is the leader of that defense?
Who is who is the I mean outside of Trey obviously,
but Tray, it doesn't seem like is like a leader guy,
you know what I mean? Like he kind of seems
like he's a lead by example guy, not a who
is leading that defense.
Speaker 9 (17:58):
I mean like Mogan was at least trying to do
and be vocal, be more of an example guy as well. Right, No,
A good point, great point.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
So I yeah, I think losing Livingston, he they've been
their defense once they really picked up. His scheme has
been excellent over the the past, you know, six seven weeks.
I think you have to look at it as something
that was you know, it made a big it made
a big impact. Okay, thank you for time. Appreciated Charles,
A great call. Thank you. Go to d real quick
(18:30):
ed what's going on?
Speaker 11 (18:33):
I uh, looking at the Bengals. One of one of
the big things that I think is that if you're
gonna be cheap because you don't want to spend a
lot of money, then don't half baked spend your money
on on putting money to me for us money on
(18:55):
the scouts he does nothing compared to what they're gonna pay,
you know, one of the players, right, and then find
the diamonds in the rum, you know, but don't not
spend there and not and think, you know, and wondering
why you're spending too much or not as good a
talent they're not. They're not running their business effectively. What's
(19:16):
the problem is?
Speaker 4 (19:17):
And you nailed exactly where I was going to go,
and that's all encompassing. It is an actual NFL GM.
If you want to keep Duke Tobin as director of
Player Personnel, absolutely do so. Give Duke Tobin a boss,
a GM that knows what it takes to run an
NFL franchise. And you know what they don't have that
I think they're also missing out on massively. And you
(19:38):
can tell in the decisions they make. They don't have
a salary cap guy person exactly. They don't have an
expert that knows how to run those numbers and maximize
every penny.
Speaker 11 (19:51):
And you think, with the fact they don't want to spend,
that's exactly.
Speaker 8 (19:55):
Where you put your money, Bingo.
Speaker 11 (19:57):
You've got people that understand how to run a time practice,
how to maximize every dollar, and how to get the
most value out of every dollar you spent.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
Nailed it at me.
Speaker 11 (20:07):
That's that's how you want a good business.
Speaker 10 (20:09):
You know.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
And do you want to do this show for the
next two and a half hours. You're doing great.
Speaker 11 (20:13):
No, But I'll tell you what I love what you
gotta do. And I just finally said, I gotta get
I gotta get it out there because I've been standing
it around locally.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
But yep, you nailed it, you know.
Speaker 11 (20:24):
Yeah, all right, man, he.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
Appreciate it. There you go. I don't have to do
anything else. Tar And that's the rest of the show.
Ed Ed covered everything I had to talk about. Shows
over all, Right, show's over. Let's take a break. H
Lee Stirling from Paramount Sports Network coming up right after this.
Since that he's ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati's ESPN ESPN fifteen thirty.
(20:59):
All right, I'm rolling right along as we do every Thursday.
At three thirty, we head out to talk to our guy,
Lee Sterling from the Paramount Sports Network to get his
read on the weekend, get his picks for the weekend. Lee,
I'm in from again. How are you?
Speaker 7 (21:18):
I'm good, I'm good anything big plans for.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
Thanksgiving, we'll go to my aunt's, my aunts that we
normally do. I'm gonna try something new this year, Lee,
there's a new I'm usually I mean, my uncle makes
an incredible turkey, so it's always the challenge, like you
have to step your game up to match the turkey
that he makes. I usually make the ham. I think
I'm gonna try pulled ham this year. Did you know
(21:44):
that was the thing?
Speaker 7 (21:46):
There to be different, there to be different. So we
have at our house, we have about thirty five people. Yeah,
a lot of kids are playing basketball court. I haven't
good time, so after they eat, we just hear them playing. Uh.
But my two daughters have a bake off. They bake
a pie and I have to judge it. They don't
(22:09):
tell me who has what pie, and they draw straus
and whoever gets to the long strug gets to choose
whatever they want and the one and choose whatever they want,
and then I have to judge it. There is no
I can't say it's a tie. That's I think We're
going on like seventeen or eighteen years.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
So have you ever lost, like one of them ever
stopped talking to you for a couple of days because.
Speaker 7 (22:35):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, like, oh god, they're very competitive.
They have to understand one. So the the youngest one. Actually,
we're going up on Saturday to Chicago. She's singing the
national anthem for the Bears game. Yes, did last year.
She's done the Orange Bowl a couple other NFL and
NBA teams. So she is an actress. So when you're
(22:56):
trying for roles on Broadway and off Broadway, you've got
to be competitive. The other was a competitive cheerleader. So
they go at it. Yeah, when I picked the winner,
the loser, if I even you know, get a hug
or wave goodbye at the end of the night. I'm lucky.
Speaker 4 (23:16):
That's outstanding. All right, let's get to the games for
discussion this weekend. We will start in the Little Apple
as the Bearcats traveled to Manhattan to take on Kansas State.
This line seems like a bit much to me, Am
I wrong.
Speaker 7 (23:32):
Okay, here's what's going on. There are some problems Kansas State.
Avery Johnson got two million I think as far as
NIOL money, they're not running them walking around like from
what I'm here, like the prima don on campus, and
he could when they let him loose. But there was
something going on last week. Chris Climbing. I think there's family.
(23:54):
There was an illness with someone. I think they're gonna
come to play here. How about this. Chris Climbing is
in his sixth year.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
Greatch and he yeah, and he.
Speaker 7 (24:05):
And when he and Bill Snyder lost the game by
ten or more points there next week they're nine to
one against the spread. Wow, I'm not going to buy
that trend here. I think this game gets away from
since't just maybe too many turnovers here and unfortunately might
see the best of Kansas State here.
Speaker 4 (24:23):
Dang it, Leeke see Avery.
Speaker 7 (24:25):
I'm sorry to say it. I'm gonna go with Kansas
State here, thirty four to twenty one.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
All right, we'll move on the game of the weekend.
In college football. The people in Columbus are thrilled that
it's a noon game. Ohio State laying thirteen against kurt
Signettes Hoosiers of Indiana.
Speaker 7 (24:45):
Why are they like a noon game so much?
Speaker 4 (24:47):
They hate them. They've been complaining about it all year.
They played two games.
Speaker 7 (24:51):
Okay, we've had a ton of them here Miami. They're
not fun, so you can't tailgate much, can't get the
crowd juiced. Here's thing about this game, and I love
kurtin Natty. Last fourteen times an undefeated Top five team
has been a double digit underdog. That undefeated underdog owned
fourteen straight up just five and nine against the spread.
(25:12):
Usually that big of an underdog for a reason. This
is the seventh consecutive season where a team has been
a double digit underdog starting Week nine or later, and
five to the previous six not only lost, but they
failed to score more than ten points. Now I do
think Indian will score ten. I don't think Ohio States
defenses any expecial, but Indiana's defense hasn't faced even one
(25:38):
top forty offense. They faced offenses like fi U Western
Illinois Charlotte who fired their coach, Northwestern who you could
give them six downs and they couldn't score again a
good team. Nebraska already fired their offensive coordinator. Ohio State
has so many SuDS, a wide receiver, running back, they've
(25:59):
already faith Oregon and Penn State. Major step up for Indiana.
Sometimes you gotta lay it if you want to play
at Ohio State thirty eight to seventeen.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Wow, big one. And then we go back into the
AFC North as Baltimore playing the LA Chargers. Baltimore a
three point favorite. I liked what I saw in a
lot of ways from the Chargers on Sunday night. Baltimore's
got to bounce back after that Pittsburgh loss.
Speaker 7 (26:29):
Yeah, I agree with here. I think you look at
the underdog, better defense getting points at home, so iding
the charge with long just fourteen points per game. I
think the roadmap is set up how to defense this
Baltimore team. They're just one of these teams that can
move up and down the field and get in the
red zone. Good defenses know how to play them. And
(26:51):
then on top of that, the Chargers are developing some
wide receivers. Their wide receiver position is no joke anymore.
Team favorite kind of like Chargerews twenty.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
Four twenty and that Baltimore pass defense is just not
good good. No, All right, what's what's our free play
of the weekly free.
Speaker 7 (27:10):
Play is gonna be tonight? Pittsburgh and Cleveland. First five
callers to call right now, eight hundred four hundred nine
to seven four one. We're gonna give them the team
for free. Eight hundred four hundred nine seven four one.
If you want, Pittsburgh and Cleveland for tonight on me.
And how about this our college football game of the
year goes on Saturday. You want to get that game? Uh,
(27:32):
just ninety seven dollars on the This is a fifty
unit max wager. We have not had a fifty unit
play this year, had two forty five units one of both.
In fact, our history forty to fifty unit max wagers,
we are seventy and twenty six. So you want to
get our college football game of the year, just ninety
seven dollars or two weeks of our own services one
(27:53):
ninety seven, just one place. Paramount sports dot Com.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 7 (27:57):
Lady.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
Thanks man, have a great week, and we'll see you
next week a while, probably not. We probably won't talk
to you on Thanksgiving? All right, thanks? Say up, all right,
there you go, Lee Sterling, Paramount Sports Network. Let's take
a break. Phone lines are back open five, one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. We'll we'll dig into some more Bengals right
(28:17):
after this Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen.
Speaker 9 (28:19):
Thirty microphone check up, swing and swap let.
Speaker 12 (28:29):
Jump closing down the set US Supreme that protect up
the you know.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
What I just saw on the old internet Machine tearn
this week twenty fifth anniversary of the Chronic win on.
Speaker 7 (28:41):
That they keep up.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
It don't take much to please, still hold satisfied Like
the Stones, I know right, I can see them phones.
Speaker 13 (28:49):
Have you seen the video of them listening to their
album No Of like the Of, like Dre and Them
and Snoop listening to their new album No I haven't
yet some of them snippets from them videos.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
Oh my goodness. Yeah, that was so weird for me.
Its like I I moved out to LA in nineteen
ninety nine when Chronic two thousand and one came out,
so to like be out there and driving around like
I was in Compton listening to that. I was like,
what happened? And the white kid from Erlanger, Kentucky is
(29:25):
hanging out listening to to Dre and Eminem in in Compton.
Didn't make any sense? Then Cube he drops that one more. Yeah, hired,
I didn't know that. I wanted. I want more of
that LL like I need some I need some more
LL new LL in my life. Oh you still got it?
(29:47):
That's what I mean? Yeah again, he brought just the
heat on that with eminem so good. Maybe we'll listen
to that a little bit later. Not that I make
requests or anything. I usually just let you do your thing,
but you know, let's see what I can do. All right,
rolling right along with this, with this Bengals conversation, and
(30:08):
you know, my guy Ben hit on it uh in
the in the in the earlier segment. If this franchise
is going to be serious about taking the next step,
if they're if they're going to be serious about being
a contender every year, a team that is a threat
(30:31):
every year to not only get in the playoffs, but
to to win your division or you know, be the
the number one wild card, whatever the case may be.
There's an evolution that needs to continue happening at the
operational level of what the Bengals do, and that evolution
(30:59):
and includes not being on an island in the way
that they operate their player acquisition, their talent acquisition process.
This has been talked about ad nauseum, but it's been
talked about ad nauseum for good reason. Go look at
(31:22):
the two drafts after Joe Burrow. You got one player,
really one high, high level player, Jamar Chase, that was
with the number five pick. The rest of that draft
and then the draft after the Super Bowl. Nothing. Nothing,
(31:48):
And those were supposed to be if you really like,
do the math on how this works out right, a
basic contract three to four years for a rookie first
round pick. They have that option that you can you
can get the fifth year. These are supposed to be
(32:10):
the two drafts where those guys are coming into their own,
they're not yet ready to go into free agency, and
they allow you to ease into a situation where now
you're paying Joe Burrow fifty million dollars a year. And look,
(32:35):
they screwed up the Jamar Chase thing this past offseason
because he's gonna get forty million dollars a year. YEP,
had a chance to get him on the cheap, at
least in terms of had a chance to get him
before his market value skyrocketed. You know what the Bengals
gambled on. They gambled on him not being great. But
(32:58):
that's just dumb, that's dumb. And now it's gonna cost him.
And you have these two drafts that are supposed to
be coming into their own, supposed to be, you know,
in a position where you can absorb that giant contract
(33:19):
of Joe Burrow the potential giant, the incoming giant contract
of Jamar Chase. But you missed and what does that mean?
That means then you have to go and you have
to fill gaps through free agency. You have to you know,
maybe you get lucky on one of these hail Mary
Waiver claims that they put in and a guy kind
(33:40):
of finds a home and turns and turns out to
be right. But you know, I looked at things a
couple of weeks ago, maybe a month ago, and I thought,
maybe the answer is Lou. Maybe Lou, just maybe you
need a different voice in that room. The more and
more you watch this team, the more and more you
you have to ask yourself, like they just don't do
(34:02):
they have enough guys that can play? Is the roster
good enough defensively that the defensive coordinator matters, Because as
we've gotten a little bit farther through the season, there
have been stretches where he looks like he's he's squeezing
all the lemon out of the juice in everything he
(34:23):
can out of these guys. The problem is the lemons
are small, so they don't have as much juice. Went
to the storem they went to Aldi and got the
cheap lemons. And when you when you go back and
(34:46):
you look like, what was so different the Super Bowl
and the AFC Championship year. You had Jesse Bates, you
had Cheetoh Ouzia, you had Trey Hendrickson. Like at each
level of the defense you were better. You have better players,
which gives lou more to work with. And instead now
(35:15):
you got a bunch of guys that you hope work out.
You're throwing in DJ Turner and DJ Ivy and you're
mad at Cam Taylor quit. I just make that one up,
tarn Cam Taylor Quit. There's not enough because they're not
(35:39):
They're not as serious as they need to be when
it comes to how this thing needs to be constructed,
how this thing needs to be developed. And Ben was
absolutely right in that call earlier. You know what's cheaper
than spending a bunch of money on players, going out
and getting the best talent acquisition department that you can
(36:00):
and get great college scouts, great guys that are up
on free agency, and and and who is a good
fit and and who's gonna be the right guy to
bring in at the right price for this team, for
this franchise. Who was in charge of being the cap expert,
(36:25):
because you know, if you had a great cap expert,
they would have looked at that Jesse Baits situation two
years ago and said, all right, we're not that far off.
He's one of the best players in the in the league.
Get his position. We'll have two years buffer before Joe's
contract really kicks in, three or four years buffer before
(36:46):
Jamar's contract really kicks in. We can make this happen.
We can get this done. We can get three four
years out of Jesse Bates before the cap ramifications of
Joe and Jamar are actually a thing. And instead over
(37:07):
a couple million dollars, they let Jesse Bates walk, and
the safety room has been an absolute train wreck ever since.
Why is all why it's been a train wreck is
also they they thought they could let Jesse Bates go
and go find safeties on the cheap. We'll go get
Nick Scott, We'll go get Genostone. If Nick Scott and
(37:30):
Genostone were good, you know what, they would never have
been free agents. Those teams. Good teams were willing to
take those guys and let them go, let them walk
when they could have had them at a very fair
market value. That's the danger of the land that the
Bengals try to shot the store the Bengals try to
(37:51):
shop in in free agency. That merchandise hasn't quite gone
to the clearance rack yet, but it's on sale. It's
going out of style, and they keep playing these little games. Well,
if you're gonna play these games and you're and you're
(38:12):
and you're gonna be quote unquote cheap, and you're not
gonna do what you have to do to have the
absolute best players, boy, you better make sure that you
get the ones that you bring in here right. And
you can't do that with a talent acquisition department that
(38:32):
is not all the way up to speed at the
highest levels of NFL football. Top of the hour, coming up,
Phone lines are open, Let's talk about it.
Speaker 7 (38:42):
It's here.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
What you think? Five, one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty.
I'm Chad Brendle in from OEGAR today and tomorrow. You're
listening to Cincinnati Sports Station, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 14 (38:56):
I'm Doug Brown.
Speaker 15 (38:57):
The spotlight falls on the AFC North tonight in Cleveland
with the last plays Browns hosting the first place Steelers
Pittsburgh has won five in a row. Colorado may have
its quarterback of the future. Five star recruit Julian Lewis
announced on the Pat McAfee Show today he'll go to
the Buffaloes, just four days after he he committed from USC.
(39:19):
The Buffs current quarterback Shador Sanders could be the number
one pick in the April draft.
Speaker 4 (39:25):
ESPN's Mel Kiper Junior.
Speaker 16 (39:27):
Golf and Burrow been as advertised as expected. I think
Chador going number one will be expected to be what
golf has been at two different places. Remember he wont
to split to the super Bowl of Grands before he
was kick golf to Detroit where he's going to hopefully
have them in a Super Bowl. And man, you talked
about Burrow, what he's done, it's been amazing.
Speaker 15 (39:44):
Mel Kuiper Junior on Carlin versus Joe. ESPN has learned
there's a federal investigation into former Temple basketball Playersir Miller
to see if he bet on his own games and
tried to manipulate outcomes. Miller transferred to Virginia Tech, but
was dismissed from the t team because of this investigation.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
Hey, it's the Residents Super Bowl. Sam christ Kenny coming.
Speaker 7 (40:04):
On Friday, brought Perdy Kyler, Murian Gino Smith.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
I'll tell you which.
Speaker 5 (40:07):
QB in the NFCUS I have the most confidence in
the rest of the way.
Speaker 17 (40:11):
It's on sports for like six am Eastern ride in
here on ESPN Radio, ESPN two A, ESPN U.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
This report is Hey, it's Moweger, whether it's pro football
or college football. And no matter who you root for,
there's no better place to post up for the game
than Long Neck Sports Grill free locations in Northern Kentucky, Wilder,
Hebron and rich Wood. Each Long Necks has four KTVs
all over the place and the sound is on for
all the big games.
Speaker 1 (40:38):
They've got an extensive menu.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
You've got to try long next Wings, and no place
in Northern Kentucky or anywhere has a better beer selection
this football season. Long Neck Sports, Grill, Stay Long, come often, Blacker.
Speaker 14 (40:52):
And you're listening to the Home of the Bengals ESPN
fifteen thirty.
Speaker 12 (41:57):
So I type of text look I used to see
saying that I showed fift cut.
Speaker 4 (42:02):
To pie mom.
Speaker 7 (42:03):
I want to be and.
Speaker 12 (42:04):
I apologize if this message gets you down. And then
I see see every girl that I see see.
Speaker 9 (42:09):
Around town and heap to.
Speaker 12 (42:10):
See y'all frown, But I'd rather see her smile and
witness all around me. True, but I'm no island peninsula made.
It makes no sense, I know, crazy, give up all
this twist the cat that's into my left, no looking
back spaceships, y'all come equipped with.
Speaker 4 (42:25):
There we go, Cincinnati's ESPN fifty third. Tearing the boss
head me in the hall. What am I supposed to do?
Speaker 7 (42:31):
He said?
Speaker 4 (42:32):
Tell the boss like I gotta go. Oh yes, okay,
unless he wants us to play outcast. I mean, I
have no problem doing that. I mean, it is what
it is. Don't do it reconsidered. I'm by Chad Brandall
and Primoger, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty. You know how like
DJ and I were talking college basketball, and you know
how that gets Terry well, see that that's the second
(42:55):
right there, just have to come on in the studio.
He could, he could. I mean, we're three weeks roughly
three weeks from the Crosstown shootout. You know, when you
get DJ and I together, we're gonna talk some trash.
That's exactly what we are doing. But it's all good,
all right, Let's move along our number two, Cincinnati's ESPN
(43:20):
fifteen thirty. Let's keep it moving on. We've got people
on the phone. I think this is an interesting topic.
I want to keep working on this while it still
has momentum. So instead I was going to talk Reds here.
If we can, I'll get to Reds and our number three.
(43:42):
But I want to keep going with some of the
talk about the Bengals and the direction the adjustments, because
I don't think they're in a bad place. I think
they're pretty close where if they make a couple adjustments,
they can be on track. But where they're at right
now is not good enough to annually stay in that
(44:04):
same tax bracket as Kansas City, as Baltimore, as Pittsburgh,
as Buffalo. It's got to be better. Scott, what's going on?
Speaker 18 (44:16):
Hey, Chad, thanks a lot. I think you're dead on point,
and we keep talking. We've heard over the years that
the Bengals rely heavily, if not extensively, on their coaches
to do the evaluations, which in the last couple of
years for college scouting, and in the last couple of
(44:36):
years when the Bengals went to the Super Bowl, that
meant they didn't start their evaluations until late February. The
AFC Championship late February last year, they were done early,
so the results have been okay. My question for you
is when, since you're I mean you SEE has put
a lot of players in the NFL recently, when you're
(44:59):
at a UC practice during the season, how often do
you see player evaluation scouts from other teams at U
SEE practices.
Speaker 4 (45:09):
There's generally somebody there at every practice, especially like when
you get out to Camp Higher Ground, You'll see three,
four or five different scouts from different NFL franchises there
pretty much every day.
Speaker 18 (45:24):
And now the follow up court, yep, exact, that's exactly
where I was going. So you're already starting behind the
eight ball. And I think when you've looked at their
strategy the last couple of years, it seems like they said,
we draft team captains from big programs. Well, that's almost
(45:45):
the path of least resistance because anybody that anybody that reads,
anybody that picks up a newspaper or looks at the
ESPN scouting rankings, that's all they're doing. They're not they're
not going out and trying to find the hidden you know,
like the Max Crosby from Eastern Michigan who's in the
fourth round, or the kid from well, I guess the
(46:06):
kid from Toledo was a guaranteed first round pick. And
I'm afraid what this is setting up this year, especially
if there's a lot of turnover on the defensive staff
and they replaced Frank Pollock. Now you're going to have
new coaches coming in even later in the game, and
I'm afraid that it's just gonna it's going to be
(46:29):
Rense Wash repeat, It's going to be the exact same
thing over again. When this year more than any you've
got to go out and find players to fill these holes.
Speaker 4 (46:38):
Yeah, and Scott, one of the things I also think
that I see in their draft quote unquote strategy is
they love guys that are sliding, right guys. Oh that
guy had that guy had a grade of you know, fifteen,
and here we are at thirty six. Man, like, we
(46:58):
can't pass that up. Well, Well, if you did your evaluation,
if you had a full scale talent evaluation department, you
would know that that guy was sliding down to thirty
six for a reason like that, there's a reason he's
stid sliding that far. They take guys that have you know,
these Oh, this guy missed the last eleven months with
(47:20):
an injury. Maybe don't draft that guy. Maybe let that
be somebody else's problem. They're always trying to like take
the take the cheap route, take the discount route. Oh well,
we think that this guy that should have been worth this,
now we can get him for a lot cheaper. We're
going to go that route. And and you know, I
don't mind, like the Captain's thing, I don't mind that
(47:42):
as like a fifth, sixth, seventh round strategy, right, because
that's that's adding guys that, you know, you think you'll
probably be able to count on special teams, and and
guys that have the right locker room culture and fit.
But like first three or four rounds, go get some stars, Scott,
go get some guys that are why do they know?
Why do we never hear we took this guy that
(48:04):
maybe he was rated, you know, twenty thirty spots lower,
but we didn't want to get to the next pick
and him not be there. We're that sure that this
guy is better than his grade, that we took him
here because we had to have him. You don't see
that with the Bengals, because I don't think they compile
that level of that depth of information.
Speaker 18 (48:24):
Oh, I agree, and I think that's you again. They're
not they're not during during the college season. They're not
hitting the bushes looking at these people that they can
go out and find. And when you look at the
Jackson the Jackson Carmen Draft, it's appalling to look at
the linemen that were taken ahead of him that they
(48:45):
they wanted to trade down to pick up Jackson Carmen Scott.
Speaker 4 (48:49):
I talked to two people from Fairfield that said Day one,
that is a terrible pick. He does not love football.
He's big, he's talented, he's got all the measurable and
all the things that you want, but he's not going
to be a great football player because he doesn't love football.
And if just regular people that I know knew that information,
how did the Bengals not have that information?
Speaker 18 (49:12):
Well, exactly, and I'll give you and I'll give you
one more example that and and unfortunate, I mean the
Bengals are in the same category. But how does Ivan
pace Junior? Yeah up the road from not only be
an undrafted free agent, but you don't go out and
how do you how do you miss on watch on
him when he's in your own hometown? Uh, to go
(49:36):
out and sign him. So do we have a TCU
game time yet?
Speaker 4 (49:39):
Not yet, but uh, I'm guessing Scott, it's going to
be another nip at noon.
Speaker 19 (49:44):
Yep.
Speaker 18 (49:45):
That makes it the drive up from Louisville every morning
for those things even more interesting.
Speaker 4 (49:50):
Yeah, but you know, hopefully we get out of that
cycle next year. But I'm afraid because of their location
and because of the way the slot of the TV
schedules work, until they get to the point where they
force the TV network's hands, they're going to play a
lot of noon games because the conference contract is going
to call for it.
Speaker 18 (50:10):
Yep, No, I agree. Anyway, I love the reporting in
the journal, especially with the guys west siding and bringing.
Speaker 4 (50:17):
In Thanks Scott, appreciate all right, thanks man, There you go, satisfied.
Bearcat Journal customer Terren Jack from Maddensonville thoughts on bringing
Mike Zimmer back. This one's interesting. What's going on? Jack?
Speaker 8 (50:32):
Say?
Speaker 20 (50:33):
What's up?
Speaker 10 (50:33):
Chad?
Speaker 21 (50:33):
I'm much You're taking a call, so personally I think
that I don't know. I don't have strong I don't
feel like Taylor is a good coach at all, but
we all know that the family is not going to
get rid of him. He's got two years and left
done his deal. So the realistic.
Speaker 19 (50:48):
Option is get rid of it. I mean, I think you.
Speaker 7 (50:51):
Got to let lou go.
Speaker 21 (50:52):
Zimmer is going to be available. McCarthy's going to get fired,
that whole staff is going to get cleared out. And Zimmer,
I mean he I mean he's familiar with the family,
he still get ties with the organization, and he made
it work when he was the d C despite the cheapness,
despite all of the shortcomings and everything. I mean, we
had good draft picks when I mean Geno Atkins, don Lap,
(51:13):
you know, players like that, but we didn't spend a
lot of money.
Speaker 19 (51:16):
On pre defense when he was here, and he made
it work.
Speaker 7 (51:19):
I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 21 (51:20):
I feel like that's a realistic option that we could
may happen.
Speaker 4 (51:25):
I don't hate it. I don't hate it now, you know.
The the hard part is, like I said, I had
a stretch where I was really frustrated with with lou
An Arumo and I you know, earlier this season, and
they've made improvements. Now some of those improvements are they
aren't playing elite quarterbacks anymore, and the elite quarterbacks just
kind of have destroyed them this season. I don't know that.
(51:48):
I don't know how to evaluate that because I just
don't think their talent on defense is very good. So
does the Does the coordinator matter that much? If you
don't don't have you know, is Lou all of a
sudden a bad coordinator or does the roster not allow
him to do what he needs to do? And you
(52:09):
know what, if you go back like I think Lou
would have done, like Lou probably would have given both
pinkies to keep Jesse Bates in town, and the franchise
decided against it. So if it was one where Lou
was like, now you know, we're we can we can
make this work without him, then maybe I would be
a little bit more suspect of Lou's decision making. But
(52:32):
if they do let Lou go, Zimmer would be a
very very interesting option because you're absolutely right, he knows
how to deal with this, He knows what it takes
to get the job done here. I don't know if
he has a previous relationship with with Zach Taylor, but
I would I would be very interested in that if
(52:53):
that was a possibility.
Speaker 21 (52:55):
Yeah, yeah, no, absolutely, I just I just feel it, like, yeah,
I mean you're right, like Lou hasn't become a bad
coordinator overnight.
Speaker 8 (53:02):
I agree.
Speaker 21 (53:03):
But I just even last year without Bates and even
though we still had Reader, the defense just it.
Speaker 8 (53:09):
Just looked so off.
Speaker 4 (53:11):
Well, they were like a lot of the season, they
didn't make the improvement that we're seeing them make this year.
Last year it right, Yeah, yeah, I'm with you. If
it becomes an option, I definitely would. I would be
interested in Zimmer absolutely. Okay, all right, well thanks Jack,
I appreciate it. Hey, all right, let's take a break.
We're gonna keep going to the phones. If you guys
(53:31):
want to keep talking, I'm gonna keep taking phone calls.
Five one three, fifteen thirty. We'll be back right after.

Speaker 8 (54:10):

Speaker 7 (54:12):

Speaker 4 (54:12):
I've been around the world and now yeah.
Speaker 12 (54:13):
Yeah, it's seeing them the thang that o cat b
I'll see reaching these stuck by heights that come within.
Speaker 7 (54:18):
The third time.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
I'm better, but bad the numbers don't be solid.
Speaker 4 (54:22):
That's how we rolling.
Speaker 18 (54:23):
You know them go both to pick the lit.
Speaker 4 (54:25):
Here's that little West Coast sound to its call him

Speaker 8 (54:30):

Speaker 4 (54:32):
All right, let's get back out of the phones. Like
I said, I'm gonna keep it rolling on. I don't
Dan Klaskin's in like twenty minutes, but uh, if you
guys want to talk, we'll talk until then. I'm cool
with it. Bob from Bowling Green wants to talk some
bear Cats. What's going on? Bob?
Speaker 8 (54:47):
Hey, Chad, how you doing.
Speaker 4 (54:49):
I'm delightful? How about yourself?
Speaker 9 (54:52):
Oh real good?
Speaker 8 (54:53):
Hey man? I h I really like what I'm saying
out of the Bearcats this year?
Speaker 4 (54:59):
Football right, and.
Speaker 8 (55:02):
Well, you know what I have to admit on the
football side, I am I I've gotten to a point
now where I watch the games and even if they're up,
I'm sitting here thinking, how are they going to lose
(55:23):
this game? Yeah? Because yeah, they and you know, it's
it's it's just like and I love the quarterback. I
think I think he's done a great job.
Speaker 4 (55:37):
They got to get a killer instinct, Bob. They don't
have that that that you know, we're we're gonna rip
your head off kind of you know, they have this
mentality and you could see it earlier in the year
where when they got the lead and they got to
the second half, all they were trying to do is survive. No, no,
put them away, don't don't try to bleed the clock
(55:59):
and just hope that they can't catch you go score
more and finish them off. And they just haven't. They
that killer mentality has not been evident. But let's talk basketball.
I'd rather talk basketball.
Speaker 8 (56:12):
You know what. There's no better indication of that than
the Pittsburgh game, right.
Speaker 4 (56:19):
And West Virginia and.
Speaker 8 (56:22):
Yeah, yeah, but hey, as far as basketball, this is
so good right now that I'm wondering, are we going
to lose by fifteen or twenty to Xavier.
Speaker 4 (56:34):
Bob, come on, I want to talk about it like that. Plus,
I think my boss is in his car driving home,
and I don't want him to hear that.
Speaker 8 (56:46):
Well, and believe me, I don't want to say it
because I think it's going to be.
Speaker 4 (56:51):
A really good game both teams. I like where both
teams are at right now. I think it's got a
chance to be a really good game. I think so too,
especially skillings.
Speaker 8 (57:01):
I think, yeah, exactly. And I think the thing that
you see has this year over X is we've got
a deeper bench. For sure.
Speaker 4 (57:11):
They've got a pretty deep bench. I mean they're they're
maybe not as deep as you see, but they've got
a lot of good pieces on their bench. I think
Sean is and we're going to talk about this later.
I think Sean is fighting to get them to where
he wants that bench to be. But I don't think
they're far off.
Speaker 8 (57:28):
Yeah, I just want I just want us to have
the best miller this year.
Speaker 4 (57:35):
It's been a long time, Bob, it's been a long
time since there's been a W in that series.
Speaker 7 (57:40):
Well, no doubt about it.
Speaker 4 (57:42):
Where is the game this year? Check it's at you see?
Speaker 8 (57:46):
Okay, Okay, all right, no, I think things are looking
really good. And I'll tell you what I like the
page kid. And one thing I'll say for him. He
might be the best a staust shooter on the team.
Speaker 4 (58:01):
Well I don't. He's not better than you know Siemas
Lucacius or or Connor Hickman or C. J. Frederick. But
he is for a big guy, he is a very
competent free throw shooter. Yeah, hopefully he's spending some time
with Dylan Mitchell on that.
Speaker 8 (58:21):
Yeah, for sure. And listen, man, good good talking with you.
I've started, I've started watching your podcast more and more.
Speaker 4 (58:30):
Well, thank you.
Speaker 8 (58:31):
And yeah it's I like what I'm I like what
I'm seeing everybody, all.
Speaker 4 (58:37):
Right, I appreciate it, Bob, thanks a lot, man, and
keep on keep on listening. Drop a hello in the
chat during one of the shows one time. I'll do it,
all right, Thanks, Bob, have a good one.
Speaker 8 (58:47):
Thank you, Chav.
Speaker 4 (58:48):
All right, now let's get to it. My guy Mike
in l A. Mike, what's going on, Mike? It is
snowing outside. I can barely see out the window. It's
snowing so hard.
Speaker 10 (58:58):
Oh, well, you know what you're in for. Back in
the Queen Natty.
Speaker 4 (59:03):
I know, I like it.
Speaker 10 (59:04):
How's the family and stuff?
Speaker 4 (59:07):
Well, Fan's doing good. I don't know if I took Kelsey's.
Kelsey's a credentialed photographer for UC games now, so she's
down on the floor taking pictures of basketball games and
running around the sidelines on football games, and uh she is.
She's enjoying it. She having the time of her life.
Speaker 7 (59:24):
That's awesome. Dude.
Speaker 10 (59:25):
Well, I'll tell you one thing we keep dealing and
what wallowing in this meeting?
Speaker 8 (59:31):
Freaking bangles.
Speaker 10 (59:33):
Yeah, one thing back we know it are are, which
is outstanding basketball at the University of Cincinnati, starting the
Oscar Robinson maybe maybe before that. How important is mackenzie
being out in the McKinley.
Speaker 4 (59:51):
Not They they added, uh, they added late, a big
man from France named Halven Zella, and I I think,
you know, Tyler was probably far farther along than Halven
is right now because he just recently got to the country.
But I don't think the rotation has changed a lot
because they've got Halven and he's eligible and if you
(01:00:13):
need him, he's there. But I you know, it hurts
because Tyler, I thought, had a chance to have a
really strong freshman season, right along with with what we've
seen from Arrington Page, who's been pretty good. You know,
the question the stressor is going to be what happens
if there's you know, as he's gets in foul trouble
(01:00:34):
or you know, he misses the half or whatever, then
you're really thin at center, and that's where Tyler would
have really helped. I think Tyler was also going to
play the four, but they've got enough bodies at the
four that you know, they can cover for for losing
a guy there, So, you know, and I think Tyler
(01:00:55):
is going to have an incredible career at you see.
I think, you know, but the ross was built such
that they can withstand not having him this season. Hopefully
he gets back to healthy and he's ready to go
this summer.
Speaker 8 (01:01:08):
He can power forward, he can play the four and
the five.
Speaker 10 (01:01:13):
Okay, good good good six eight? No, he's six ' ten,
Oh goodness, ycious good good good. Hey, maybe you can
inform me this year because I'm it's embarrassing, but I
was hoping mixed team was going to take big strides
this year. But even locally, you well, I'm not hearing
(01:01:35):
much about UCLA, do you know much about what's going
on with him or it's embarrassing, but I just don't.
Speaker 4 (01:01:40):
I haven't really had the time yet to kind of
to dig in on where mixed team is at. I know,
I saw they lost to New Mexico. Uh, and that
was that was the game that New Mexico kind of
handled pretty easily, and I haven't heard a lot about it,
to be honest, I haven't heard a lot about him since,
so I need to do a little better on that.
(01:02:03):
But I this football basketball crossover month of November is brutal.
So generally it's like work, work, work, work, work, work, work,
and then as soon as I'm done working, my head
is on the pillow trying to sleep. So I haven't
had a lot of time for late night basketball yet.
Speaker 10 (01:02:20):
Yeah, that's starting to catch up to a little bit.
Speaker 4 (01:02:23):
Of that too. I can't operate on four hours of
sleep like I used to, Mike, No, because it does.
Speaker 10 (01:02:29):
It does take a toll, no question.
Speaker 8 (01:02:32):
And how's it?
Speaker 10 (01:02:33):
How's it being a single super dad? Are you have
me adjusted to it pretty good?
Speaker 4 (01:02:38):
Yeah? I'm doing pretty good. I'm doing pretty good. It's
a it's a lot, but you know, the fortunately, I
think the the connection that she has built. And this
is in large part I give a lot of credit
to John Cunningham and and Wes Miller and and Scott's Adderfield,
the people around all the programs. They've kind of taken
her in and so she's like I that she's taking
(01:03:00):
pictures now at all the games and she's around and
everybody knows her and the players tell her hi, and
you know that that kind of thing, and that has
that has made things very cool between the two of
us because we get to spend a lot of time
together and it's a lot of like fun time. So
it's been at that part of it's been pretty cool.
(01:03:21):
She's she's now part of the family.
Speaker 10 (01:03:24):
And then closing, because this is always something like what's
the best thing you'd eat recently when you went out?
Speaker 4 (01:03:32):
I haven't been out a ton. I did have there.
There's a place called Greek to Me that's right by
my house in northern Kentucky. We had that today. It
sat better with me than it did with Taran. It's
called Greek to me.
Speaker 10 (01:03:50):
Okay, Greek to me.
Speaker 4 (01:03:53):
I don't get the I don't I'm not a big
I'm not huge on lamb. So when I get it,
I get I get like a chicken club with like
grilled chicken and bacon and mayonnaise and lettuce and some
hot sauce.
Speaker 8 (01:04:06):
You know, I think it's still He had got a hamburger.
Speaker 4 (01:04:12):
No, he got the he got the like a euro.
It had like a giant third pound of the the
euro meat. And then right before we went on the air,
he said, my stomach's not doing great.
Speaker 9 (01:04:26):
You said, bro, and I know you got to go.
Speaker 10 (01:04:29):
It's great to hear your boys ship. Keep it up.
Speaker 4 (01:04:30):
Appreciate it, Mike, thanks man. Yeah, all right, let's take
a break. We'll hear from uh, we'll hear from Sean
Miller real quick when we get back. Since that he's
ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:04:40):
You've been listening to football in Thenetti on the official
home of the Bengals, Cincinnatis, ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnatis.
Speaker 4 (01:04:54):
You heard the legends? Are you tracking what is happening outside?
Speaker 8 (01:04:59):
Parent?
Speaker 4 (01:05:01):
So you know about like by the time, like when
around we started, they were talking about like less than
an inch of snow. Yeah, they're talking about one to
three inches? Now what yeah? What are we doing?
Speaker 8 (01:05:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:05:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:05:14):
How late are you here? Can you go at six
or are you here? No, I'm here. Oh, it's not
like ten o'clock. It's supposed to stop, so there's probably
gonna be one to three inches on the ground by
the time you get out of here. What are we
doing with Cincinnattie?
Speaker 7 (01:05:28):
Right?
Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
Unbelievable, Dan Clasico, I know I said I was gonna
get to Sean Miller. We are gonna move college basketball
like the three o'clock hour. We're gonna do college basketball.
So we'll do Xavier right at the top of the hour.
Dan Klaskin's coming up next, we'll talk some fantasy football.
Get you ready for the weekend since Anny's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:05:49):
Boostoor festivities this season.
Speaker 20 (01:05:51):
With that.
Speaker 4 (01:06:05):
Rolling right along nearing the end of the second hour
of this show, it's a go is this happiness? Well,
hell no, but I'm slapping this in your Chad Brenda
and from og.
Speaker 7 (01:06:21):
Yay yay.
Speaker 4 (01:06:23):
It's our friend ice cubing with Terence right, our friend,
friend of the show, friend of the program, Ice Cube.
You need to it's probably too late. You should have
clipped that yay yay that he gave us, But then
I still got an interview safe and then we can
just use it like as a as a sounder, like
if we get a good call, like maybe that's the
indicator of a good call. Give him an ice cube?
(01:06:45):
Ya yay? Dan Klaskins get sports Info dot com. Dan,
I I missed you last night. You were you were
out to some work dinner or something, and I was
hanging out with your wife and daughter.
Speaker 19 (01:06:59):
Yeah, somebody's got to do it yet.
Speaker 4 (01:07:05):
At volleyball practice. People at volleyball practice, calm down? How
was dinner?
Speaker 19 (01:07:11):
Was you having beers and food and you were being
a good dad?
Speaker 4 (01:07:14):
Did you bring her home anything good? She said you
was looking forward to you bring her like some leftovers.
Speaker 19 (01:07:20):
Wow, that didn't happen. I guess I really messed it
up more.
Speaker 4 (01:07:24):
Than you messed it up twice. Brother. I would get
something good down the way home tonight. Let's get into
fantasy football Week twelve. We got some roster insights. What
do you got for me?
Speaker 19 (01:07:34):
Yeah, dude, we are square smack in the middle of
bid mcgeddon sixteens this week. Obviously we all know about
the Bengals, but we got the Falcons, the Bills, the Jags,
the Saints, the Jets. It's a real mess. Good luck
set in those lineups. The good news there's no boys
next week for Thanksgiving, But then we get one final
sixteen bye.
Speaker 4 (01:07:54):
Week and week fourteen.
Speaker 19 (01:07:55):
But jed, now that is the bye weeks are gone
for a lot of the teams. This is the time
you got to be prepping for the playoffs. Man, I
say it all the time. Man, don't wait until the
playoffs start to get those backups, especially handcuff those running backs.
So many I'm looking at waiver wires around leagues. I'm
seeing guys like Blake Korn and Trey Benson and basically
any stud running back. If you eat your study, you
(01:08:16):
want to get their backup, especially as you get through
these bye weeks. And most important, most important reminder this
time of year is even if you're falling out of things,
please keep setting your lineups. There's nothing worse than a
fantasy team in the league that stops that lineups, and
then the team you're fighting for the playoffs basically gets
a bye. Don't be a sore loser, man. That Nothing
makes me more mad and fantasy than that.
Speaker 4 (01:08:40):
What we injury time. I mean, this feels like the
injury list doesn't feel like it's as long as it is,
and maybe that's the bye weeks that are coming in,
but it doesn't feel like you got as many names
on this injury update.
Speaker 19 (01:08:54):
You're right, as far as week twelve interviews, not a
lot of big new news. At least, we actually got
some good news to kick it off. Let's start with that,
and that's Mike Evans, one of Fantasy's top receivers. He's
back full participant, too, straight practices and now for the Bucks,
he injured that ankle against the Ravens back in week seven.
(01:09:14):
I expect him back first the Giants here and of
course back in your lineup. We're still waiting to see
if Darnell Mooney's going to be playing through his hamsterring
issue what that means for the Falcons, but as far
as white House, that's really it. Isaiah Pacheco another guy
that could be back this week. The trending in the
right direction. He was a limited participant today. Now the
problem is here, said is they're playing the Panthers and
(01:09:36):
Kareem Hut's been tearing it up, so it might not
be the full dose of Isaiah Pachecko, but good news
for his Fantasy managers. Nonetheless not the case of Tise Spears,
the Titans running back. He's been hurt, finally came back,
looked pretty good. Now he's in concussion proo calling. Speaking
of running backs, I don't know if either Raiders at
running backs and Mere White with the quad or alex
(01:09:56):
Xander Matism with his hamster, you're going to play this week.
I picked up a Mira Doula. Maybe he's a deep
desperate flyer if you're hurting, but it sounds like Dylan
Lobb's also going to get some carries there. And then
also the Raiders stinks, so you got to keep that
in mind. And then really it's about tight end. I
mean George Kittle but this hamstring issue, Sam Laporter with
their shoulder issue. Both these guys tracking towards playing here
in week twelve, which is great news to get them
(01:10:18):
back in the mix. Dalton kincadie's obviously on a bye,
but he's dealing with the knee injury that could keep
him out beyond the buye, so we'll keep our eyes
on that. In Jake Ferguson doesn't look like he's going
to play this week. He's in concussion protocol. Still here
with the Cowboys, so you got him in your line
if you better find a backup plan.
Speaker 4 (01:10:36):
All right, And finally the best segment of the week
here from Dan Studs, duds and sleepers, especially on a
bye week, this is important. Listen up.
Speaker 19 (01:10:44):
Yes, yeah, and dude, I mean not too my own
horn here, but my studs have been.
Speaker 7 (01:10:50):
Real studs lately. Dude.
Speaker 19 (01:10:51):
It's been pretty much nailing it on the sleepers too.
But Bo Nicks is my stud this week, and he's
been a stud all season. I mean, heck, you might
be the favorite rookie of the year. Now I mentioned Denver.
They're at Las Vegas the Raiders obviously, you know they
give up points galore to fantasy quarterbacks and Nicks is
front for multiple touchdown passes in six or five of
(01:11:13):
his last seven starts here, so he's been very productive.
And I got him as QB five this week on
my board. Devon Han is my number one running back
and in games of two attack the below under center
there twenty three point seven PPR points without Tua he
was seven PPR points, so it's been pretty amazing to
see what he is. I think he's going to have
a huge week Miami set to host the Patriots. On
(01:11:35):
the dud side, a couple of surprising names. Matthew Stafford.
He's been red hot. Love what I've been seeing from
him since he's got all of his receivers back. But
this week he's got the Eagles, and no defense has
allowed fewer fantasy points two quarterbacks on the season or
over the last five weeks. They're about as good as
it gets. I don't think Stafford's going to do much.
He's outside my top fifteen this week, and outside my
(01:11:56):
top twenty five at receiver is Deebo Samuel. It's a
tough matchup back Green Bay, and really it's about production here.
I mean just eleven or last week he's just twenty
one total yard six point one PPR points. He hasn't
scored over thirteen PPR points since Week six, just one
game more than four catches since Week two. The Packers,
they're allowing the fifth fewest points to wide outs over
(01:12:17):
the last five weeks. So Deebo, I know, with six
teams on a bye, it's gonna be hard to sit him,
but I definitely don't think he's gonna have much of
an effort here. And my sleepers for the week Johnson
and Johnson. Baby, we're gonna go with Rosehawan Johnson at
running back. Not only is de Andre Swift a little
dinged up here, but Johnson's role has been growing. There's
(01:12:38):
not much depth behind him either, with Swift a little
dinged up. We know Khil Herbert is now a Bengal,
so I think Roshan Johnson could be a sneaky play here.
It's a tough matchup versus Detroit, but he's still in
the flex. Conversation for me and Quinton Johnson, the wide
out receiver that was a bit of a bus He's
starting to look better, I mean as part of that
because Justin Herbert's looking good. But man, he's facing Baltimore
(01:12:58):
in the Ravens Jet. They've allowed even more fantasy points
to receivers than the Bengals. They're the league's worst unit,
which says enough for that right there. But I think
Quentin Johnson is a top fifteen play at the position
this week and one of my favorite sleepers of the
season I've offered up here on the show.
Speaker 4 (01:13:13):
You said Johnson and Johnson. I thought Rudy was going
to get a mention.
Speaker 7 (01:13:18):
You know what, we just did.
Speaker 19 (01:13:20):
He just did, so there you had. I haven't thought about.
Speaker 7 (01:13:25):
It is the last in the past.
Speaker 4 (01:13:26):
But how can they find you?
Speaker 7 (01:13:28):
Dan?
Speaker 4 (01:13:28):
Where can they get all this information and more?
Speaker 8 (01:13:31):
Well?
Speaker 19 (01:13:31):
Yea dead sports info. You can get it all there,
including my podcast, the Fantastics Insider Football Podcast. We dropped
that weekly. You can subscribe where you listen, and of
course always on x at Dan Klaskins. And we're definitely
fired up to just a couple more weeks here in
the fantasy playoffs. So these are the times where you
really have those tough decisions in your second, third, fourth
(01:13:52):
guest and just you know, stick with their heart, man,
stick with stick with what your first thing. More often
than not, that's the right goal, all right, Go go.
Speaker 4 (01:13:59):
Get yourself your life something nice. I'm trying to help out. Yeah,
that's better.
Speaker 8 (01:14:03):
I'm better. I appreciate that.
Speaker 19 (01:14:05):
Heads up there, that's a good.
Speaker 4 (01:14:06):
Good friend too. Look out, I'm here for you, Dan.
Speaker 19 (01:14:08):
I'll here next time, my friend, and have a wonderful
Turkey day and hopefully we get a lot of good
football between now.
Speaker 4 (01:14:17):
And then you as well, my friend. Thank you, Dan.
We'll talk soon, all right, take care brother, There you go.

southbound seventy five near Shepherd Lane. I'm nicole with traffic.
Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
Hey, it's moweger whether it's pro football or college football,
And no matter who you root for, there's no better
place to post up for the game than Long Neck
Sports grill free locations in Northern Kentucky, Wilder, Hebron, and
rich Wood. Each Long Necks has four KTVs all over
the place and the sound is on for all the
big games.
Speaker 1 (01:15:24):
They've got an extensive menu.
Speaker 2 (01:15:25):
You've got to try long next wings, and no place

this football season. Long neck, sports, grill, stay long, come often.
Speaker 3 (01:15:37):
Here's the Bengals like ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station.
Speaker 4 (01:15:56):
Here we go our number three, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
It's the Moeggar Show. I am not Moegar. I am
Chad Brindle filling in today and tomorrow as well, having
(01:16:17):
a good time cruising through a boy. It doesn't look
good out there, Taren, but youse don't sell me. It's
it's not on the roads yet, but it is starting
to stick on the ground, which means the roads are
probably usually next. And I have a feeling I have
(01:16:37):
a long journey back to Northern Kentucky tonight that I'm not.
I've actually been thinking about how can I can I
get over to two seventy five from here and make
it home quicker than trying to fight through downtown? Do
(01:16:58):
you really want to fight over to I really don't.
I don't want to fight through downtown either. They're saying,
like twenty five minute delays trying to get up the
hill in northern Kentucky. I'm not super excited about it,
but you know, what can you do? You live and
(01:17:20):
you learn, you deal with it, and you take an
hour to make a twenty five minute drive. But such
as life. The plus side is, you know, I get
to be here with you. I was wondering, do you
have a com Rex, I can take home and we
can I can just do the show from home tomorrow?
That one come work? How you believe Audie has it? Great? Yeah? Great,
(01:17:43):
all right, let's get rolling along. Hour number three last night,
Xavier in Action. They knock off Siena eighty to fifty five.
Another big day from Ryan Conwell sixteen points, four of
five from three, six of nine from the floor, finished
with with one rebound, no assists. But his job is
to get buckets and that's what he did for Xavier.
(01:18:07):
Trey Green with fourteen, He was four of seven from three,
Marcus Foster with twelve, Zach Freemantle with ten, Davion McKnight
with nine, Dalan Swain with seven for the Musketeers they
knock off. Did you see who Sienna's coach was? Tarn Yeah,
Grey McNamara, Jerry McNamara coaching the Sienna, some kind of dogs.
(01:18:31):
I don't know what that's a dog in their picture.
I'm not sure what kind bulldogs. Maybe, I don't know.
He's familiar with this town very well, maybe not that
part of town he was in last night, oh of
the one of the most gut wrenching plays in Bearcat history,
as he hits a three to essentially seal the fate
(01:18:53):
for Andy Kennedy's loan Cincinnati Bearcat team back in two
thousand and six. Heartbreaker, heartbreaker. But Xavier, they you know,
they had a rough couple games to start the season
where they won, but maybe they didn't play up to
(01:19:14):
the expectations. And then they've been getting things back on track.
They handled Wake fours pretty easily over the weekend. They
come back against Siena last night and get a nice win.
They traveled to Fort Myers, I believe, for their holiday
(01:19:36):
tournament on Monday where they take on South Carolina. But yesterday,
after the game, you would think eighty to fifty five win,
seaw Miller probably in a pretty good mood. Not exactly
the case. Let's hear from Xavier's coach, you know.
Speaker 17 (01:19:52):
Really strange game tonight. I didn't think there was energy
in the building. I didn't think there was energy on
our bench, you know, I just I didn't and really
feel good about how we played, how it felt.
Speaker 20 (01:20:04):
You know.
Speaker 17 (01:20:04):
We obviously won eighty to fifty five, and we did
a number of good things.
Speaker 19 (01:20:10):
You know.
Speaker 17 (01:20:10):
One of the stats that I think we really are
proud of is our turnovers. You know, we continue to
be right at that threshold of nine or ten. It's
not easy to play forty minute games and be single
digit turnovers, and in particular when you play fast and
you're in the month of November. So I think that's
a really good sign. By the way, we had twenty
(01:20:30):
four assists. You know, I think our backcourt has been outstanding.
Our starting backcourt Davion McKnight and Ryan Conwell, you put
those two guys together. We had a big challenge here
tonight guarding number zero, Justice Showtz. He came into the
game averaging twenty a game from Sienna. You know, one
(01:20:51):
of our goals was to really do a great job
on him, and although the team gets the credit for
doing it, I thought Daveon really gave an amazing amount
of effort defensively himself and in the most unselfish manner
you can to impact the game and impact winning on
the defensive end. And when you give that much of
yourself on the defensive end, sometimes your offense, you know,
(01:21:13):
doesn't quite look right. But he had seven assists in
one turnover, so I think on the year right now,
I believe he's twenty six assist in three or four
turnovers through five games. You know, same thing with Ryan,
I don't think. I didn't think like this was one
of his best games here tonight. But Ryan was six
for nine from the floor, four for five from three,
sixteen points that he was really solid. So you know,
(01:21:37):
our backcourt taking care of the ball, just being really consistent,
and you know, I feel really good about that. Marcus
Foster might be our team's best defensive player and it
was great to see him settling offensively here tonight and
five defensive rebounds, twelve points, five assists in one turnover.
(01:21:58):
Marcus was outstanding. So you know, we did some good things.
I didn't think we were as comfortable against the zone.
Makes sense, first time we've seen it, and I think
it was good that we were able to go against
it and we'll learn from it, grow and be better.
Speaker 4 (01:22:14):
The next time.
Speaker 17 (01:22:15):
As we play against different styles. But the number one
thing we have to do is we have to define
roles on our team, and that's my job.
Speaker 4 (01:22:26):
It's really easy for me to do.
Speaker 8 (01:22:28):
You know.
Speaker 17 (01:22:29):
It's unless you play really hard for the name on
the front of your jersey, Xavier, unless you give us
maximum effort defensively. You know, doesn't mean you have to
be perfect, but your effort level really does have to
be perfect. You have to fly around and play as
hard as you can to the point where you can't
breathe and you need a sub and you have to
do it again and again and again every day in
(01:22:51):
every game, because that's the identity of what we're building
and in this conference, in order to achieve the goals,
we have unique guys that are willing to do it
on the defensive end. Right now, we have a virus
that everybody is looking at the statu sheet trying to
get as many points as they possibly can, and they
want to win, but they really want to win and score.
(01:23:14):
We need a couple guys that are willing to rebound, defend,
make the extra pass, play at a very very high
level defensively and understand that that's what makes the team great.
Jerome Hunter did it two years ago for the team
that he was on. I thought Davon McKnight did it
all of last year with the team that he was on.
(01:23:36):
And those guys when you're unselfish like that and you
embrace your role, you have a way of just growing
your role and getting better, and all of a sudden
you start to score. All of a sudden you get
to play more, and the next thing you know, it's like,
well man, how did all that happen?
Speaker 4 (01:23:53):
So there go Sean Miller after the game. And this
is an interesting like world for college coaches because in
the past and the way that the college basketball used
to work, you know, maybe maybe you'd add a transfer
to at the top of your roster, or you'd add
(01:24:15):
kind of a long term guy that and maybe didn't
work out somewhere, but he was a guy you recruited
in high school and you see something long terming him.
But there were there were Mick Cronin used to call
them foot soldiers, guys that came up through your system.
They learned as freshmen, and then you know they they
(01:24:35):
started to really contribute as sophomores, and then maybe they're
in the starting lineup as a junior, and then they're
an all conference guys a senior, like there was a
progression to it, right, That's not the case in college
basketball anymore. And when you look at at Xavier's roster,
and especially like the bench, because I think that's you
(01:24:58):
know where some of that was was directed last night,
was the reserves for Xavier's team. Really the only guys
on that bench that have experience in the program are
Jerome Hunter, who missed last year with injury, and Trey
Green who played. He had a role as a freshman
(01:25:19):
last year, but it wasn't a substantial role. And those
guys are on your bench and they know what to expect.
But then you've got the rest of the roster that
are guys that are new to the program because Xavier
doesn't have any freshmen this year. So you've got Swain
that's a returner, You've got McKnight and Fremantle and Green
(01:25:42):
and Hunter and everybody else is new. And a lot
of the transfers that you're bringing in, especially Sean, there's
a couple different ways to approach the transfer portal, and
and Sean has approached it by looking at guys that
were exceptional at a level right below where Xavier is.
(01:26:06):
And then you bring those guys in and expect them
to help your roster as they move up. And the
problem there is, or it's not a problem, but it's
a process. The process there is, those guys have to
(01:26:26):
adjust to new roles. Those guys have to be willing
to do the secondary stuff that maybe they had earned
their way out of or never had at their previous
stop because they were the most talented player. They were
the guy that was, you know, getting thirty two minutes
a game and what was asked to score fifteen, sixteen,
(01:26:46):
seventeen points a game. And Xavier has those guys, right,
Xavier's got Zach Fremantle, Xavier's got Davion McKnight, Xavier's got
Ryan Conwell is like that that star transfer Marcus Foster
has been good and is increasing his value as the
(01:27:08):
games wear on, which you know that's not everybody is
going to be Conwell that just steps right in and
can get you fifteen twenty a night. But then that
secondary piece who is going to be that guy that
you know comes in and is gives you seventeen minutes
(01:27:29):
where they defend and rebound and do the blue collar
stuff that you know, aids and assists those guys that
are at the top of the roster, does the dirty work.
You know, it is one of those guys that comes
in and gets his hands dirty. And Sean is at
that place right now where I think he's looking at
(01:27:51):
his team and saying, Okay, we're starting to get there,
We're coming together. We had a big win over Villanova,
we win by twenty five over Siena, but I still
got to light a fire under their rear.
Speaker 19 (01:28:04):
End.
Speaker 4 (01:28:05):
I need something that's going to get me through practice
between now and heading to Fort Myers and playing a
game on Monday. So he plants this seed last night,
and I think it's great coaching. I think it's evolving
with the way that college basketball has changed, because you
got to light a fire under those dudes and you
(01:28:26):
have to do what you can to make them understand
your role is not what it used to be. Your
role is now fourteen minutes a night, or sixteen minutes
a night, seventeen minutes a night, and you're gonna come
in and you have to go as hard as you
can possibly go because you're not playing thirty two minutes.
(01:28:51):
You're not playing sixteen minutes every half. You're playing seven
eight minutes every half. We're gonna put you in twice.
You're gonna be in for three and a half minutes,
four minutes every time that we put you in, like
a segment, two different segments in the half, and by
the end of that segment, you have got to be
out of gas or you're not providing what we need
(01:29:15):
you to provide. So while some look at it, I'm
sure and say, what's coach so upset about they won
by twenty five against a decent mid major. Enjoy it,
be happy. If he's gonna get him ready for what's
to come, he's got to get those guys that are
new that he needs to be in a support role
(01:29:37):
and maybe not a starring role. He's got to get
them on the page that he wants them on. So
I thought it was good, good coaching, good strategy from
Sean Miller last night to kind of set up what
is essentially I'm coming after you in practice the next
couple days. That's how coaches work. It's always about the
(01:30:01):
next thing, It's always about the next lesson. It's always
about getting your team in a position where they are
playing better as the season goes on. They're playing better
week to week. You don't want to peak early, and
you know, I like to see you get that, you
get that eighty to fifty five win, and you know
(01:30:21):
the coach isn't overly happy with it. All right when
we come back. Well here from Wes Miller, he had
they had a win on Tuesday night over MKU. A
press conference today where they're getting ready to head down
to Atlanta and take on Georgia Tech Saturday at two o'clock.
More after this Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen.
Speaker 3 (01:30:42):
Thirty Cincinnatis's football Inninnetti Run to You in Pope by
blend Light and by Skyline Shiley on the official home
of the Bengals. Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen to thirty.
Speaker 4 (01:31:03):
Mirror Mirror on the Wall.
Speaker 8 (01:31:05):
Tell me?
Speaker 7 (01:31:07):
Can it be my daylight on distant?
Speaker 19 (01:31:09):
Just my day?
Speaker 9 (01:31:13):
People say, when it comes to.
Speaker 4 (01:31:16):
Be, it's just me myself an eye.
Speaker 7 (01:31:22):
Man.
Speaker 4 (01:31:23):
I used to jam out to this when I was
a kid. Will be you in the car today? I
mean it might be on the way home. You mean
a car ride an hour? An hour car ride Plug one,
spectac Rest in Peace, Plug two. That's just plugged four.
Speaker 20 (01:31:49):
Mm.
Speaker 4 (01:31:49):
Such a good happies. That and that and Buddy those
are really the first two, like the songs that turned
me on to daylight and then I got hooked and
never left. Like I love the older stuff, the stuff
that you know, artificial intelligence bionics, like the early two thousand's,
(01:32:10):
mid two thousand stuff was excellent. If you're not hip
to it, get hip to it. All right, let's keep
rolling with the college basketball theme as we uh we
roll on in in hour number three. We did almost
exclusively Bengals in the first two hours, and we pushed
all this this stuff all got bumped back, so we're
(01:32:32):
catching up now. But Tarren west Miller was at the
podium today or at the table today. I unfortunately was
not there. They sent me a picture. They were tarring.
They were messing with my seat. They were like putting
their stuff like their their coats on it and their
backpacks on my seat where I normally sit. And I said, look,
if I am not there, that seat is to stay
(01:32:54):
empty like I died, wait keeganku and defend the seat
for you. No, he took a picture and send it
sends it to me like he was part of the Shenanigan. Wow,
I know right, And then he was talking smack about
me yesterday with Tony and Austin, like I think he's
getting a little big for his bridges pay Yeah, I might.
(01:33:16):
Although I had the chance today, I did payroll today.
I should have taken like fifty dollars off of it.
When he asked me, I would have been like, next time,
keep your mouth shut. Let's hear Les Miller.
Speaker 20 (01:33:32):
Just out of curiosity. How's recruiting. I only talk about
the things that I'm allowed to talk about, and Nancybla
has a lot of rules. But we you know, we've
been attacking recruiting since the day we got here, and
we'll continue to. And the one thing that I can
talk about a lot is Kishan Tillery because he signed
(01:33:54):
so in terms of Kishan Tillery and you had talked
about this last week, I couldn't even were thrilled. And
we'll keep attacking everything we can possibly attack on a
day to day basis, and recruiting. But that's the one
thing I can't talk about. Guys, we're actively recruiting until
they signed.
Speaker 23 (01:34:10):
So you said last week at your radio show, Dan
could be a week away from getting some light shooting
in Is it still that kind of timeline of a
week and then he's week to week and has he
been able to get any more involved so far?
Speaker 20 (01:34:27):
It's going. Actually, I think he's ahead of schedule from
what I heard the team doc was here, stays run
together this time a year, a couple of days ago.
You know, I meet with our medical staff on campus
every day about our whole team, and he's doing great.
(01:34:47):
He's a head of schedule, and you know, hopefully we'll
start progressing him on the floor next week. I don't
think that necessarily means playing games, but I think, you know,
he's ahead of schedule based on you know, what we
thought week and a half two weeks ago. And you know,
we'll keep you updated as we know more. There's not
a lot to report right now.
Speaker 4 (01:35:05):
Now that you've had a chance to go back and
watch the film. Just what we takeaways on rebounding in
the game against the MKU.
Speaker 20 (01:35:12):
Yeah, well, I number one, I want to give Darren
and his group credit. They were incredibly physical and they
you know, like they they I think there'll be a
team that'll be a good rebounding team all year. I
don't I don't think that'll just be a one night thing.
And they had to be disappointed with the way they
(01:35:34):
rebounded to pursue the ball in the previous game, and
I thought they did a nice job of responding. As
I said after the game, I was extremely displeased with
that aspect of the game for us. We addressed that
yesterday with our team and we'll get to work on
it today.
Speaker 23 (01:35:52):
You kind of touched on seamos after the game, but
didn't elaborate on the a lot. And I'm curious when
you see him pull up for that I think it
was a twenty five footer near the lug. What's your
initial reaction when he goes.
Speaker 4 (01:36:02):
For that shot.
Speaker 20 (01:36:04):
It wasn't the logo. But he has all my confidence,
and he has the confidence of our entire staff and
all of his teammates. This isn't again, like you know,
he's been here, you know for well over a year now.
We see the work ethic, we see the production every
(01:36:26):
day in practice.
Speaker 4 (01:36:27):
He had a.
Speaker 20 (01:36:30):
Great year last year, especially as he got healthy in
the second half of the year. So he's he's earned
all the freedom and confidence from not just me, but
from everybody around here on how he approaches it. Every day.
So you know, what's a good shot for Semos isn't
necessarily a good shot for other players. But if he
(01:36:50):
gets a clean look from three at any point anywhere
within his range, which is pretty deep, I think that's
a very good shot for our team. Uh So what
may seem like to you know, a casual bystanderd man
that's not a great shot. I can't believe they let
him shoot it. I mean, I think for Siemas it's
very different. He has you know, he's got a lot
(01:37:13):
of freedom and he's earned that freedom. What do you
expect out of Georgia Tech. Some of those guys are back,
and then they've had McCollum from Oklahoma. I think, uh,
Damon does a terrific job. You know, you look down
(01:37:34):
their roster and you see the first thing that that
you know is going to lead to some success this year,
and that's some continuity on their roster from a year ago.
And they they had some really really gifted young players
that they played heavy minutes in the ACC last year.
And those guys are returning and they're significantly improved and
(01:37:56):
because of that, they're gonna have a significantly better year.
And then they did also did a great job of
adding the right kind of pieces in the transfer portal.
And you know, I could go down their whole roster.
I'm not gonna do that, uh you know, because I'm
about to do that with our team here, uh you know,
here and here in practice this afternoon we go through
(01:38:18):
the scouting report. But they've assembled a great roster. Damon
is a proven coach. I have an incredible amount of
respect for him. So returning players great, uh, great players
in the transfer portal, great coaching. It's a game on
the road against an agency opponent. We know we have
(01:38:39):
our hands full and that that's a test that uh
you know, we're we're excited for the test, but we
do we do know it's a test.
Speaker 4 (01:38:47):
There you go Wes Miller today getting ready for uh
Georgia Tech. And uh maybe I'll I'll fill you in
on what he was talking about at the beginning. Let's
take a break. You want to talk bear Cats, you
want to talk? Lines are open now to the end
of the show. Five, one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen
thirty h No, Keegan's going I gotta stay here and
(01:39:10):
do shows. Keikan not a good to go to what
was supposed to go in Atlanta. He wouldn't go to
the spot we would send him to. No, I mean,
I know for a try, I maybe if I don't
tell him what it is and just tell him that's
the spot for wings. He might be in his car
listening on the way home from from UC right now,
(01:39:32):
so we might be tipping him off. Maybe I'll just
tell him, like, here's where you need to go to
get some lemon pepper wings.
Speaker 5 (01:39:39):
I mean a game's ed Jordan takes. So he would
be too far from it, right, it'd be right, you know,
he would be very mad at us, very mad at us.
But no, the girlfriend might be very mad.
Speaker 4 (01:39:51):
Fiance, she would definitely bad to be mad at us.
If you want to talk Barcats, you want to talk Xavier,
phone lines are open. This is Chad Brenda and Fromager.
Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:40:04):
You've been listening to football in Thennetti on the official
home of the Bengals, Cincinnatis ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's ESPL dot.
Speaker 4 (01:40:14):
Com, ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station.
Speaker 9 (01:40:29):
Hopping stopping, hopping like a rabbit when I take.
Speaker 4 (01:40:32):
Thirty or want you know what that's the happening.
Speaker 15 (01:40:34):
I lay back into cintaenrill tho.
Speaker 4 (01:40:39):
It is absolutely fine, and that makes my clip and.
Speaker 2 (01:40:41):
Share that might that straight Shlip said trip down a day.
Speaker 4 (01:40:45):
Believe missionary can talk. I don't know that. It's like stone.
There's what five albums in the history of hip hop
that can live up to Doggy Stock for real. Go
listen to it now and remind yourself that was recorded
in what ninety four ninety three. It's insane. It's like
(01:41:08):
going back and listening to eighty aliens or you know,
like pick something from back then doesn't make any sense.
It's like listening to Eric B and rock Cam right
now and going that was the eighties. It's a masterpiece.
And the chronic two thousand and one is twenty five
years old. Man hey getting old? T getting old. So
(01:41:36):
in the the open of that that West Miller press
conference that that I was not at, So that was
not me asking the first question it usually is in
all you see press conference is I take pride in
that Terran being the guy to get the mic first.
Not that I'm a mic caug or anything, but.
Speaker 5 (01:41:55):
It's just it's just some people when we air these
press conferences, like we know, like who was asking the
first question?
Speaker 4 (01:42:01):
I'm coming first, Like my question is going to be first.
I tell you know, I've been on this. Do you
know I'm in year eighteen, but almost as old as
Chronic twousand and one.
Speaker 20 (01:42:11):
I know.
Speaker 4 (01:42:12):
I started two thousand and six, December of two thousand
and six. I think the first game I covered was
UC playing Miami at US Bank Arena in December of
two thousand and six, their their second season in the
Big East. Mc cronin's first season as the head coach
(01:42:34):
of the Bearcats. That was eighteen years ago. About the
Google top hip hop album in two thousand and six,
it probably wasn't something I listened to. I've probably be
it Willis. I don't know. I mean, I don't know.
By like four, I had kind of stopped listening to
anything new. Well, well let's you know when I find
(01:42:55):
it okay. But Wes was asked about recruiting, and that
is in large part because there is the National Letter
of Intent, which is going away I think next year,
but it is still around for now. The National Letter
of Intent or AKA the early signing period essentially ended yesterday,
(01:43:20):
and you see, initially had missed out on a kid
named davey On Hannah who was a top fifty kid
right inside the top forty out of Milwaukee last week
and he went to committed to Alabama last week signed
with Alabama and they were in on. One other high
(01:43:42):
level kid is a five star kids named Sean Abev.
He plays at Overtime Elite. He's from Europe, plays at
Overtime Elite down in Atlanta and is a five star
in the twenty four to seven Sports Composite. I think
he's number twenty three, that is five star status. Left
the six ' eight small forward one of the best
(01:44:06):
pure scoring wings in the country. Tarran can confirm because
Taran went home and watched the video of him last night.
It was your scouting report, Tee. The hope he's a
killer offensively. Yeah, I don't know if he can guard you,
but I know he can score. And in basketball in
twenty twenty four, go get the guys that can score.
(01:44:28):
You put the ball and they put the ball in
the bucket. We can live right like a defense well,
and you can. You can cover up one guy that's
not great at defense a lot better than you can
cover up a roster of guys that can't score. We
watched it here for thirty years, Tarren, thirty years, a
bunch of dudes that can't score. So you can find
a guy that really is just a natural bucket getter,
(01:44:52):
Go get him. It is not done yet, but he
is not an announced a commitment. But yesterday a bunch
of indust street insiders across all of the different networks
that cover college basketball have predicted Sean Abev to come
to Cincinnati. I was pretty surprised initially by that news.
(01:45:13):
I knew they were in a decent spot in the
recruitment of Abev. There was a belief inside the industry
that he might wait until the spring signing period, which
there's another signing period that lasts a month in April.
But there was some chatter that from you know, inside sources,
(01:45:34):
that he might get this thing and decide to wrap
it up in the early signing period. So the thing
is that that's important to know. A kid can sign
and then announce it whenever he wants. It's not required
to announce, like when the school that they sign with
gets the national letter of intent, they can they can
(01:45:57):
announce it whenever they like. So if he did sign
last you know, within the last week. He can make
that public whenever he wants. So I don't think that
because you didn't haven't heard anything yet that now this thing,
you know, he can't sign until the spring. That's not
necessarily the case. He would be a massive get to
go along with the other commit for Cincinnati who has
(01:46:21):
signed in twenty twenty five is a point guard named
Keishawn Tillery. He is He is from the New England area.
He plays in the New England Prep School Association, which
for many, many many years has been the best high
school basketball league in America. He went to a school
(01:46:41):
called New Hampton. Do you know who else went to
New Hampton? Karen Wes Miller Sons a little bit of
a pipeline there, and I guess the guy that coached
Wes when Wes was in high school is now the
athletic director at New Hampton. But Shawn Abev, you know,
we're we're still a waiting word from Abev if if
(01:47:02):
he's going to announce anytime soon. If he did sign,
we don't know that yet, but he is there. There
are very few guys that in most freshman classes. Obviously
a guy like you know there's a kid named aj
Debansa that that's number one in the twenty twenty five class,
(01:47:25):
rumored to be a lean towards actually Buyu and Debanta
is a guy that obviously would impact in the Big
twelve right away. But a guy like Abev because of
his offensive skill, can make an impact in any league,
any college basketball conference in America early. That's why this
(01:47:48):
would be such a big deal because you know, there's
there's a lot of there's the potential to either have,
you know, an incredible turning corps for next season, or
a potential for Wes Miller to be looking at kind
of a second, you know, a new era, because you know,
(01:48:11):
if they have a great year, let's be honest, Gisel James,
Dan Skillings, Dylan Mitchell as He's bandego, those guys could
all opt to move on. And you're already gonna lose
Simas Lukashias. So I don't know if you saw this yesterday.
Tarren right now is the statistically the number one player
in America so far this college basketball seasons gonna be
(01:48:31):
a big loss, and you know Connor Hickman going to
be a big loss, and so getting a guy potentially
like ABEV to come in here gonna be a big deal.
And it's also I think important to remember this year
is really for all intents and purposes outside of guys
that have multiple injuries or whatever. The COVID year is
(01:48:54):
going away. So this spring when the transfer portal opens,
it's not gonna be as massive as it was a
couple of seasons ago or the past, you know, three
seasons for it. Since since the COVID year was added in,
you're gonna start to see a return to normalcy. So
if you can get a high, high, high level, five
(01:49:14):
star freshman, the value in that is going to come
back a little bit. It had gone away, like teams
were getting very old and staying very old, and for
good reason. Now probably gonna have to look and say, okay,
we're gonna need to work back in some of these
young guys. And that means that everybody's going to be
(01:49:36):
trying to get you know, the absolute best of the best,
and that's what it looks like potentially, if things go
as everybody is predicting. Wes Miller will add if he
gets the commitment from Shawn Abeth, so there you go.
Are we done? We're done? We're done. Everybody be safe
(01:49:57):
out there. It's getting nasty. Yes you I will. I'm
gonna drive slow. Promise you're back tomorrow. I'm back tomorrow.
I will not have the comrades, so I will not
be broadcasting from home, but I will. You will hear
my voice tomorrow. We will have plenty to talk about.
I'm sure that's the Molagger Show. He's Tarren Bland. I'm
Chad Brendle. We'll see tomorrow. Since that's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 8 (01:50:25):
And I'm listening to.
Speaker 12 (01:50:26):
The radio, I'm listening to what sad girl sag saing
about it.
Speaker 4 (01:50:32):
He got her. I just want myselfing not to row
when you're on it gets dy.
Speaker 8 (01:50:42):
Who don't act as if you did talk?
Speaker 19 (01:50:45):
Go let me play with her.
Speaker 4 (01:50:48):
I'm working late, I said, I'll soon be home.
Speaker 1 (01:50:51):
All about the girl was home home.
Speaker 4 (01:50:54):
Let me tell you.
Speaker 20 (01:50:55):
What's your crime for?
Speaker 8 (01:50:57):
Why? Because I'm flying.
Speaker 2 (01:51:02):
Nate and I'm superper Hey, it's mogger, whether it's pro
football or college football, And no matter who you root for,
there's no better place to post up for the game
than Long Neck Sports Grill, three locations in northern Kentucky,
Wilder Hebron and rich Wood. Each Long Necks has four
