Speaker 1 (00:00):
See you got another big commit today, Boba Miller, a
post player averaged on nearly eleven and a half at
FAU last year by many accounts, a really good get
for Wes Miller Durnam what has been a really productive offseason.
And so I wanted the skinny so to speak from
our friend Chad Brendel Bearcat Journal dot com, who's been

(00:20):
streaming about this for the last like ninety minutes and
who's also hosting this show tomorrow because I'm taking off.
I appreciate you joining us on short notice. What's going on.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
I just you know, I'm looking for ways to see
if I can set the talking record this week.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Understandable. All right, you've been busy, so I appreciate you
doing this, and I know you're going to be no
problem sitting in here tomorrow. How good is Boba Miller.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Got a chance to be really good and especially just
potentially a really good fit for what this roster was lacking,
which is, you know somebody that can give you high
end minutes at the I think we all feel pretty
good about the guard spots.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Gisel, James Dade, Thomas, kerkrisa Sensor, Harris, and Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
I think people forget got a really good freshman guard
coming in in Keisha Ontillery, and you got, you know,
five guys for those two spots seanabayev and and Harris
can slide down and play a little bit of three.
John Celestein is a is a combo three four that
they added from Baylor, and then most off of cham

(01:34):
and Jalen Haynes at the five. But you didn't really
have that what's the answer at the four? And you
go out and you get bobon Miller, who was one
of the better players in the American Conference. Started his
career at Florida State. A lot of NBA teams had
him on their radar. He's not quite there yet, but
he has the talent and the ability, and you know,

(01:56):
I look at this roster and think, man, last year,
there the concern that like there were too many duplicate parts,
there were too many guys that were kind of the
same guy. I don't look at this roster and get
that sense at all.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Yeah, I think last year. I think last year felt
more like an accumulation of talent. This year feels like
a roster build.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
I would agree with that, and you would hope that
was the case when you hire a general manager that's
highly respected in the sport. Has spent time with the
Oklahoma City Thunder, who were the best team in the
regular season in the NBA in part because of their
roster construction. Like that's why you go get Corey Evans
to give you instead of just going out and working

(02:42):
your contacts and getting the most talent.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
You can get, Let's let's build a roster that.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Makes a little bit more sense in how we want
to play. And you know, I had Corey on a
couple of weeks ago and he talked about processing was
a big thing. He talked about pssing offense, having players
that didn't you know, stand on the wing, catch the
ball and hold it for three seconds and allow the

(03:08):
defense to reset. Guys that can catch it and make
a decision Are they going to drive, are they gonna shoot?
Are they going to pass? And do it quickly. And
I think Boba Miller is another really good piece that
you know you're you're not going to get the I've
been calling at this for a couple of weeks. It's
probably stupid, but I like it. When a guy catches
the ball, you're not going to get the loading screen,

(03:30):
like a little loading icon, and I think that's gonna
should help. You know, you saw it, MO when in
those games last year where the ball did move with
some purpose, they looked insanely better as a team offensively.
So you hope now you have more guys that can
allow you to do that.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Can can they with what they have? Can they play
multiple styles?

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Like?

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Could they play big? Could they have one big on
the floor? I mean, can they sort of adjust based
on who they're playing?

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (04:00):
I think so. I mean, you know, potentially, like you
could put two of the guards, Sean Abayev, the five
star freshman that's in coming, and like a Jalen Celestine
at the four paired with a Bob a Miller paired
with a Jalen.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
Haynes and play four out.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
We have one guy that you know you used to
set screens and post up in a guy like Haynes,
and then you know, I think they are going to
have to You're gonna see chom So. I think it's
the best player of this team. I don't think that's
a shocking revelation, but you know you're gonna have another
big next to him, potentially with Haynes potentially with Miller

(04:43):
where you can play big at times, and there's even
you could play you know, Celestine Haynes and Charm together
and go six eight six nine seven foot Miller and
Chom together seven foot, seven foot two. There is the
ability to play some different styles.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Are they done? Are they done? Or they have room
for more?

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Think so, yeah, you think this is it, I'm going
into the you know, after they got mossed off a Chom,
the thought was like either one big swing or like
two medium swings in terms of how much money they
had left. I consider this a big swing. So and

(05:27):
if you think about him, though, you've got the six
transfer portal guys, the four guys returning, and the two
incoming freshmen. You've got twelve guys, and ten eleven of
them are expecting to play significant minutes. I don't know
how you fit the thirteenth guy in and keep people
happy if.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
There are additional guys added. I think it's more scout
team guys, practice guys back of the roster, because remember
they expanded the roster limits to fifteen, right, and there's
no more walk on so that you're gonna have practice guys.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
You're gonna need to put them on scholarship.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
I think you can see that with a couple of
the remaining spots, but in terms of guys you expect
to contribute, I think they're done all right.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Awesome stuff, have fun tomorrow. I gotta go. Thanks so much,
thanks sir,
