Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Here we go Wednesday in the Queens City. Chad Breundle
again filling in for Mo Eggar while Mo enjoys lovely Florida.
I thank you for choosing me A lot to get
(00:48):
to today. Big win for the Reds last night, massive, massive,
A little sloppy defense failed them a touch in the
sixth inning and Christian Incarnaci and Strand throwing air at
(01:08):
third base, Jake Frayley getting his glove on the ball
but not quite enough to haul it in, ball going
over the fence, resulting in a three run home run.
A Reds lead turned into a Reds deficit, but Frayley
(01:28):
bounces back in the bottom of the sixth gives them
back the lead. Bullpen holds it down over the final
three innings and the Reds continue their winning ways that
now won eight of ten. They're one of the hottest
teams in baseball. They are back at it tonight. Nick
(01:51):
Lodolo on the bump for the Reds, going back over
last night. It's they didn't wow you. Statistically. Reds only
had five hits, but they get six runs, all of
(02:13):
them with two outs, two out rallies. Multiple two out
rallies happened twice. In the fourth they get four runs
and then again in the sixth to get the final
two runs that gave them the lead. TJ. Friedel had
a two out hit. He was one for five with
two RBIs. Will Benson had a home run robbed, but
(02:39):
he ended up one for three with two RBIs and
a run scored. And then Jake Frayley two for four
with two RBIs and a run scored as well. And
the Reds get production from the bottom of their lineup.
Seven eight, nine, Steer, Frayley, Maclain all score a run,
(03:02):
three hits between them, two RBIs between them, also a
walk in there for Matt McLain. That's what was missing
when this team has been struggling offensively, is that bottom
of the lineup giving them some production. Look, those guys
(03:22):
aren't gonna be great. Maybe you get Steering and McLain
back on the right side of things, but then they're
gonna move up in the order because that's where they belong.
But as it stands, those guys are hitting down there.
You need them to produce. They don't win that game
(03:44):
yesterday without those three guys giving you something something, So
that's a big plus for the home team. As like
I said, they get back at it tonight. Hopefully forecast
(04:06):
looks looks a little daunting for seven o'clock, but hopefully
you see the good Nicolodolo tonight. He's facing Bailey Ober
who is four and three this season for forty ERA.
(04:27):
He has started fourteen games, fifty seven strikeouts in seventy
three innings, so not a dominant strikeout pitcher, which is
good for this team. Guy that pitches to contact a
little bit more. We'll see how that matchup plays out.
(04:49):
Do we have last week? I checked right before we
started and we didn't have it. But we do now
have a lineup for the Reds. And speaking of Spencer
Steer moving back up, you get that tonight. Freedol and
center leading off, lux the DH batting second, de La
Cruz at short batting third, Steer in the cleanup hole
(05:10):
batting fourth, Benson batting fifth, and left Trevino behind the
dish batting sixth, Espinal batting seventh at third base, Frehley
and Wright batting eighth, McLain batting ninth and playing second base.
Nick Lodolo on the mound Taren, Audie shot me down here,
(05:36):
but I'm interested in your opinion, and I know this.
You're a bit compromised here because you work closely with
Mo every day. It is Elie de la Cruz Bibblehead night. Yes,
the Bibbleheads are sent here as promotional items for various
talent throughout the building.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
I mean, not being one of those talents, but you not.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
You not being one of those talents that we I
mean we might be able to work something out here, Tarren.
When I fill in, does that become my item? Or
is it not for the Moeggers show it's for Mo Egger.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
I think it's for Mo Eger and this bowhead. I
think Mo would fight you for.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
It, and that's fine. Like this one, I'm not gonna,
you know, the high profile ones. I'm not gonna, you know,
throw a throw a fit over. But like if they
send in like a suresy, like that should be mine. Right,
Oh yeah, okay, I don't think Mo wants a shresey anyway.
I've never taken any of that stuff without asking MO.
(06:46):
I always say, hey, is this something you want? Sometimes
he's said, I don't care, you can have it. Sometimes
he said no, I'd like that one. That's fine. I
mean the Ellie one though, like you know, you probably
get a couple hundred bucks on eBay for that bad boy.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Bestially, when you're no longer to rid, well, can.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
We just enjoy Willy's here, Tarryn, geez, just enjoy Willy's here?
We have four more seasons of Elie. That was a
topic I was going to try to get to yesterday,
but I didn't. I didn't make it. Maybe we'll we'll
get back around to it today, if not, maybe tomorrow.
But the lead for me today, Tarrn, was going to
(07:31):
be this Red's team slowly but surely starting to pull
me back in. And what I mean by that is
not just the wins, but the brand of baseball. April
and May, this team, quite frankly, was very boring to watch.
(07:52):
They were sloppy in the field, They made mistakes on
the bases. Yes, the starting pitching was really good. The
relief pitching was was also pretty good. But defense and
what they did at the plate was boring. And now,
as we've seen over the past two weeks, they're looking better,
(08:17):
they're looking more consistent. I know they had the couple
miscues last night, But ultimately it feels like this team
is settling in. They're adjusting to Terry Francona. I do
think everybody just assumed like Terry Francona is a great manager.
There's not going to be any adjustment time. That's silly.
(08:38):
Of course, it's going to take some time to adjust
to a new lead man, a new style of play.
It looks like, at least over these last two weeks
that some of that is settling in and this team
is playing a better brand of baseball. Now the winds help,
don't get me wrong, of course the wins help, but
(08:59):
ultimately how they play is big for me. So I
came in here pretty excited about the direction that the
team has shown over the past couple of weeks. The
fact that that what this we are to the point
now winning eight out of ten, nine out of thirteen
something like that, ten out of thirteen, that it's not
(09:22):
just the the result, but they're becoming interesting, they're becoming
fun to watch. And that was gonna be my opening
salvo today. And then as I'm driving in and I'm
listening to Tony and Austin and first off Tarn they
were asked to do a start, cut bench me trags
(09:46):
and uh and chick and they wouldn't do it. I
can't get the start anyhow. Wow, I know right, Like,
I see how it is, Fellas, I see how it is.
That's okay, I fuck, I thuck ay, I see how
it is. But it came across that the Ravens had
(10:08):
signed Jay R Alexander at cornerback. Pretty team friendly deal,
six million dollars, one year deal. Kind of approve it thing.
I still think Jay Alexander has a chance to be
really good. It's hard to believe, hard to fathom they
got him at that price, but also worth noting he's
(10:28):
close friends with the Lamar Jackson from their time at Louisville,
and the Ravens have made it very clear that they
were going to address their glaring weakness aggressively. I believe
Austin called it the aggressive pursuit of a championship, and
(10:52):
I'm sorry, but I'd look at the Bengals and what
they did this offseason and it's not an aggressive pursuit
of a championship. It's not Trey Hendrickson is still in limbo.
If you listen to that, you know we got excited
the two sides are back back at the table. Back
(11:14):
talking was the word coming out of the weekend. Adam
Schefter today, Yeah, they're back talking, but they're they're not
any closer to a deal. Great. Great, because I don't
know about you, but if they in negotiations at any
point here in the next week, two weeks, whatever, and
(11:34):
and don't get any closer and they don't get a
deal done, this thing's gonna roll through camp and every
day we're gonna have to talk about what's what's going
on with Trey? What's going on with Trey? And again
you get that distraction. The Raivens looked at their team
(12:00):
and said, secondary is why we weren't able to achieve
what we wanted to achieve a season ago. They found
a problem, they identified it, they attacked it. Chidobia Wuzia
was added. Is he still a starting type corner? I
(12:22):
don't know, but guess what, he was the number one
here and he's got some value. They went and got
Malachi Starks in the draft to play safety alongside Kyle Hamilton,
and now they go get Jay r Alexander. They remade
(12:43):
their defensive backfield because they knew their window is open
the time to act is now and they're not interested
in treading water and dealing with the same problems year
over year. They went out and they remade their secondary
(13:06):
and they put themselves, I think, in the driver's seat
for the AFC North. What did the Bengals do?
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Not much.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
They drafted a linebacker. They changed defensive coordinators from a
guy that's well respected. I say what you will about
the way the defense played the last two years, but
that was a defensive coordinator that was respected around the league.
(13:38):
That's not to say Al Golden's not, but Al Golden
has not been a coordinator at this level running his
own defense in the NFL. When do we get to
say that our team is all in this? On the
heels of Nick Kral over the weekend talking about the Reds, ah,
(14:01):
I just got to get healthy. Just gotta get healthy.
We'll be good need our guys healthy. Instead of you know, oh,
I don't know. Hunter Green goes down, looks like he's
gonna be down for a while. Do the Reds go
make a trade for a starter. No, they bring up
Wade Miley. And that's not to it's not to pooh
(14:24):
pooh Wade Miley. It's to say you can't do better
than Are you serious about winning the Central? Are you
serious about being a contender in the Wildcard or are
you happy being five hundred? Because if you're aggressive, you
do what San Francisco did, who called up Boston who
(14:45):
was not actively trying to trade Devers, and they said, hey,
let's get something done. We need to get better. You
got a guy that you probably want to get rid of.
Let's do a deal instead. The red said, well, our
ace is out, but you know we'll be all right.
(15:05):
We'll just slide Wade Miley in there, keep the train
humming along. It's not all in. It's shrugging your shoulders
and saying, I think you know, we'll hang around. And
then when we get to the end of the line
and we fall out of contention or we're eliminated, we'll say, hey,
(15:25):
wasn't for the injuries. The injuries got us. Injury bug
got us again again. Like the seventh year in a row,
the Reds season has not gone how we wanted just
because a couple guys got hurt in June and July.
When is this franchise gonna do? When are these franchises
gonna do what we just saw the Ravens do identify
(15:49):
a weakness. Attack the weakness. We knew that like that.
The Reds had problems on the corners. Not enough power,
did they not really? Austin Hayes, great guy, hurt all
the time, can't get on the field. It's played what
twenty games this year? It's frustrating. I'm frustrated, a little
(16:16):
bit angry. So we're gonna talk about that a lot
today because it ticks me off. Why can't we have
nice things? We'll talk a bunch of Reds preview tonight
against the Twins and see if we think that's gonna
happen or not. We'll talk to Kegan Nicholson here in
(16:38):
about ten minutes, talk some bear Cats. Now that the
basketball roster is released, and we won't be able to
talk to Keegan for a couple of weeks because he's
going on his honeymoon. We'll talk to Richard Skinner in
the four o'clock hour, five o'clock hour, we'll talk to you.
Let's take a break more after this the Moegger Show.
Since night, he's ESPN fifteen.
Speaker 5 (16:59):
Thirty Cincinnatis.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Thinking of a master plan.
Speaker 6 (17:10):
This ain't nothing but sweating side my hands, watch money,
ben so watch the de ball still coming up? But
lin So, why start my missing my records? Thinking how
I could have get some dead President.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Chase Burns today in Louisville. Seven innings, pitch, three hits,
one run, seven strikeouts, no walks. If I'm thinking of
a master planned tarn ain't has Chase Burns and the
Reds rotation sooner than later. I feel like that's one
Mark would appreciate. Mark. How's it going?
Speaker 3 (17:43):
My friend?
Speaker 4 (17:46):
Man?
Speaker 2 (17:49):
There you go? You you uh, you're a rock hymn guy.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
I was okay with him. I didn't listen to him
a lot. I mean than heavy. I'm not heavy in
the rap music, but he was okay.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
I liked, you know, all right, what you got for
me today?
Speaker 4 (18:09):
But what I got is I'm piggybacking off your comments
with the ownerships of both teams. I subscribed what Dion
Sanders said about the Bengals a few years ago. He said,
they don't want to win a championship. They just want
to be in the hunt.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Yeah, they just don't want to be bad.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
Yeah yeah, they just want to be in the hunt
with the Red I mean, Bob Castelini said when he
bought the team, he's gonna bring championship.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
They lie back.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
I just don't.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
I just know.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
I just don't think he knows how to do it. Well,
I think they don't. I don't. I don't think they
know how to do it. I think that's what it is.
I think they want to win in teams. But our
question does that front office know how to go about
doing it within the guidelines and the parameters of the
market that they're in. That's apart I question. I think
(19:06):
he wants a winning team, but I just don't think
he knows how it will take on that.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
To go back on what you mentioned yesterday, I looked
it up. Aohanio Suarez is making fifteen million dollars this year,
fifteen million. Jamber Candelaria is making what fourteen.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
So yeah, so he was affordable.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
He's under a contract the Red signed him to. Still
the Red signed him to that deal in twenty eighteen,
and then moved him when he still was going to
be affordable through the length of the contract.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
Yeah, and they turned around and signed Chamber. That made
no sense to me. Well, you could have just you
could have just held on to who you already had.
I never I never got that contract with Jamer and
I never understood that Mike mus takers contract simply because
you already had Suarez and Nick son Zel was coming up,
(20:06):
and he could have he could have you could have
put in at second base. But they signed Mustaka said
the two contracts right there. I've never understood either one
of those.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
That's what that's the situation they've put themselves in because
they say they're not going to go spend top dollar. Well,
then that then you have to take a guy like
au haining O Suarez and and go all in on
him if you can get him for I think he
was eleven million last year, fifteen million this year. Like,
how is he not part of the long term playing
at third base? You found a guy that gave you
the power, gave you exactly what you need. I just
(20:41):
it blows my mind, Mark that I just they pigeonholed
themselves into these places because they're not actually serious about winning.
That's what I truly believe.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Yeah, I mean, I agree with you to a point.
I just think I just think the Reds just don't
know how to do it. Maybe they don't have a
front office that knows how to like strip a team
down and build it back up, like Chicago and Houston.
Me and you both have seen here in the two
thousands them strip their teams down and win a World
(21:16):
Series within a handful of years.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Yeah, but those teams look and they say, okay, here's that.
If those if those people running those franchises were with
the Reds, they would have looked and said, we need
a bona fide power bat to play one of these
corner spots that hits right handed, that we can sit
in the middle of the lineup every day. And they
would have gone and they would have made that happen.
That's not a knowing how or not knowing how. That's
(21:40):
a choosing to or choosing not to.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
I mean, do you think somebody like theo Epstein would
take that job here?
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Probably not, because I don't think ownership would let him
do what he needed to do.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
Okay, get it, will you may be on the something
that they they probably okay with just being okay, just
don't be bad, but just be good enough to keep
the fans coming down.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
So keep people engaged.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Okay, Well, get off to the rest of the show.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Appreciate it real quick. Steve and Montgomery, Steve, what's going on, Hey, Chad?
Speaker 7 (22:19):
I just wanted to defend the Bengals a little bit,
which I know seems.
Speaker 8 (22:22):
Like an odd position to take.
Speaker 7 (22:24):
And I get what you're saying about Jayra Alexander. It
looks like and there's one hundred percent accurate that the
Ravens are all in like. And he didn't say specifically
that we should.
Speaker 9 (22:33):
Have gone after Jail.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
No, I don't. I don't think. I don't think that
that's I'm not mad that the Bengals didn't go after
JayR Alexander. I'm mad that the Bengals didn't look at
some glaring weaknesses on this team and attack them more
aggressively in the offseason.
Speaker 7 (22:49):
But that's what I think they did. The two biggest
weaknesses on defense were not secondary, it was linebacker and
defensive line. They got rid of Shuddon Rankins, who was
a horrible stake he had. He was a liability out there.
Not only did he stay when he was on the field,
but he kept the young guys on the bench.
Speaker 10 (23:10):
Yeah, yeah, they did.
Speaker 7 (23:11):
They let him gone and they brought in They brought
in the best run defending defensive tackle in the league.
Speaker 8 (23:18):
As a free agent.
Speaker 7 (23:20):
You're gonna get the young guys Atkins and.
Speaker 9 (23:23):
Uh blank McKinley Jackson.
Speaker 7 (23:25):
Out there as well.
Speaker 8 (23:27):
You drafted schmar.
Speaker 10 (23:28):
Stewart and linebacker.
Speaker 7 (23:29):
You didn't bring in one, not two, but three new, younger,
faster linebackers to patrol the middle of the field where
the Bengals got absolutely.
Speaker 8 (23:38):
Toasted last year.
Speaker 7 (23:40):
So if you they attacked your weaknesses, their weaknesses were
defensive line and they were linebacker. I know everybody's up
in arms about trains from ours contract. I try not
deal with that crap because it's just still pointless. It's
and you know, look right now, the exact same thing
was going on with Miles Garrett.
Speaker 9 (23:58):
He got his contract. Everyboy shut up. No I thinks
about it again.
Speaker 7 (24:01):
DJ wats doing the same thing.
Speaker 9 (24:03):
He's gonna get his contract up. Nobody will think about it.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
But the problem is, this is five years in a row, Steve,
five years in a row, we've been dealing with drama
going into training camp. Five years in a row.
Speaker 9 (24:15):
That hasn't had it.
Speaker 7 (24:17):
Show that has.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Show me a team that's haded five years in a row.
I'll tell you the team that's haded five years in
a row. The Dallas Cowboys. Is that who you want
to be? Yeah?
Speaker 9 (24:25):
Probably is that?
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Who is that?
Speaker 7 (24:26):
Who is I know the Browns have had it.
Speaker 9 (24:29):
I know the Steelers have had it.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
But they've had it here and there, not every damn year.
Speaker 10 (24:37):
The Ravens had it back to back years with their
not five.
Speaker 7 (24:42):
Yeah, well I have the I don't know the Ravens
like I know the Banioffs. But what I can tell
you is what you're talking about is drama. Now you're
talking about drama. You originally stated that you didn't like
that they didn't attack their weaknesses. I gave you five
different guys.
Speaker 9 (24:57):
That you gave me, maybe this one.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
You gave me maybe out of the field. You gave
me one proven, one proven maybe one proven guy, one
proven guy, the defensive lineman that can stop the run,
and then a bunch of maybies, a bunch of bunowns.
Let me ask you, see okay, let me ask you, Steve,
what gives you a reason in your brain to believe
(25:22):
that these players are going to develop here? They haven't
drafted well in five years.
Speaker 7 (25:26):
Fast Linebackers, Great Defense twenty fifteen, Young Fast fifteen.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Holy cow, it's a decade.
Speaker 7 (25:33):
Ago it's it's twenty years ago. The first thing I
said was two thousand and five.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Twenty years ago.
Speaker 7 (25:39):
Point is, they have young, fast linebackers that had no experience,
but they ended up having great seasons.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Okay, I don't trust them to develop. I don't trust
them to develop anybody right now because they haven't. That's
why the defense is in the position that it's in,
is because they've they haven't developed any of their draft
picks in four years.
Speaker 9 (25:59):
And that's why they fired the defensive coordinator.
Speaker 7 (26:02):
Sadly, but I think honestly he was given a raw deal.
I'm excited for Al Goldenka, but I'm actually excited for
the young talent in the middle of the field and
the guys they've used to address the defensive line fair enough.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
I hope you're right, Steve. I hope you are.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
Thanks gys for the call.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Appreciate it. Bud, you too. See we can have civil discourse.
I don't agree with him, but I mean, if that's
what you think is going all in, okay, we'll see
how it plays out. I don't think that's going all in.
I don't think that's saying our super Bowl window is
(26:35):
right now. Let's go win it. Just take a break

That.

I feel like Karon could spend it.

He could. He's just gonna play his own stuff and
you're probably not gonna like it.

I wouldn't do that. I would not do that.

Would do with wedding, but I wouldn't play stuff I
don't want to.

I thought you'd look at Keegan's list and be like, no,
I'm good, you can keep it. Keegan. Well, you've got

Speaker 12 (29:04):
Yeah, she's not exactly the most thrilled about it, but
I think she's kind of gotten used to it over
the last few years of scattered travel. Throughout the entire year.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Bearcott's basketball roster released. Any any numbers jump out at you.
Maybe that's seven for Keyshan Tillery, big slime with three.
It's a small number for a big guy.
Speaker 8 (29:30):
What was it buy of ten?
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 12 (29:34):
I think that was an interesting one. I think he
looks better. I think he was one in the in
high school and on the ote circuit. But I guess
you're not gonna take one away from a senior like
Data Thomas and give it to a true freshman. Probably not,
but yeah, but no, I think Tyler McKinley's gonna look
(29:55):
good in twenty four. I think twenty four is a
good looking number in any sport. I'm looking forward to
year and I finally get on the court in that number.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Let me guess that was your baseball number.
Speaker 12 (30:07):
It was my baseball number my sophomore year at Danville,
and it was my brother's number his entire childhood because
he was a big Jeff Gordon guy.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
Like, that's what kind of wedding reception it's gonna be.
Speaker 12 (30:20):
Okay, Okay, it's in Hamilton and we're gonna have bush lights.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
Yeah that is that's not gonna be You're right, you're right,
and and never mind, I'm gonna be nice. We're on
the air, there's a lot of people listening.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
I'll be nice.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
That was your wedding present. Wes Miller built this team
differently than a season ago. Do you do you look
at this and say, there's added toughness, there's added link,
there's there's added athleticism. Do you look at this and think,
at least on paper, this is a roster that's better
(30:59):
construct did to be a contender in the Big twelve,
where maybe last year there were too many ill fitted parts,
I guess is a good way to put it.
Speaker 12 (31:11):
Yeah, definitely. And I think the biggest thing for me,
and I think a big thing, maybe the biggest thing
then that we've talked about it a lot, has been
the offensive output from the big guys this year is
going to be hundred and fifty percent compared to what
it was the last season and I asked you, you know,
(31:33):
who was the best offensive big man last year? And
we thought about it and I said, was it Harrington?
Speaker 13 (31:38):
Pah?
Speaker 12 (31:40):
You were like, I guess so, And where would he
be at this year? I think he'd be maybe the fourth,
maybe even the fifth best offensive option from the big
guys because you have Seam, you have bobon Miller, Jalen Haynes,
all guys that are extremely efficient down low and they
want to score the ball. I think that's really where
(32:01):
it starts in terms of the difference between this year
and last. And then the toughness, physicality and size will
come in and that's really what's going to be the
difference maker. And then obviously sounds like they've got some
shooting and Seana Biav and Jalen Celestine. So if that
stuff that is supposed to be good on paper can
(32:22):
just translate to the court, like in large part it
hasn't over the last two years, you should see some differences.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
How big is this season for West Miller.
Speaker 12 (32:34):
As big as it can possibly be. I think for
so many reasons, we've obviously looked at, you know, how
expensive this roster was compared to market value, and it's
up there with the one of the more expensive ones
in the country, maybe top twenty, top twenty five. It
feels like he's got all his chips in at the
(32:55):
end of the day. Yeah, and he's all in on
this season, and obviously job is it's got a good
chance of being a stake if it doesn't go his way,
just knowing how long he's been here and without the
NCAA tournament appearances. So kind of similar to football, because
if you don't get it this year, what else be
(33:17):
in need? You know, like you've got stars, you've got
those top one hundred players now, and you've kind of
you've gone through the formulas that haven't worked and you
settled on one that makes more sense. So you know,
needing more time, needing to prove something else And what
will this? This is year five, Next year will be
(33:38):
year six. Yes, so going into year six, I'm not
sure that he's gonna get any extra time.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
Real quick, on football, you've seen the indoor practice facility.
How excited are you to to cover practice there as
opposed to uh, tracking down to Nippert Stadium every day.
Speaker 12 (34:04):
I'll tell you what I'm gonna miss. The ambiance of
Nippert Stadium practice and seeing the gas constantly screaming at
people to keep walking on the concourse when they try
to stand there and watch practice. But the main thing
I'm not going to miss is the sun beating down
on me at three point thirty pm and it being
(34:25):
like ninety five degrees and humid on the turf. Now
we can go inside to an air conditioned building and
then just chill. I think that's gonna be. That's That's
probably the thing I'm most looking forward to being able
to watch practice.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
I'm curious what are you hearing about camp higher Ground,
because I think it's something that is a large part
of UC football and I don't think it's something that
goes away. But does it really make a lot of
sense to spend two three weeks out at camp when
you've got this palace on your campus that is, you know,
(35:00):
maybe better suited for the rigors of preparing for a season.
Speaker 12 (35:07):
Yeah, I think higher Ground in large part now at
the IPF is kind of I don't want to say gimmicky,
but it's more you're just going with the tradition because
you can kind of get the same thing, except for
you know, bunking together and you know, living in close
(35:28):
quarters together at the IPF. Just having the indoor facility,
having all the food right there, being able to do
the competitions and do all the fun stuff apart from practice,
going to higher ground is more just you would. You
would do that because that's what Cincinnati does. And I
think it'll kind of trend towards maybe a week, maybe
(35:50):
two weeks, but I don't think it'll be the three
week and shoveganza that they usually do. And then I'd
be interested to see kind of the relationship they have
a higher ground and four to five years to see
if it's even a thing that they would do anymore.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
I think it's too much a part of history to
have it go away. I do think you see it
become a little bit less a part of the preseason
ritual where you go out there for five six days.
You treat it kind of like high schools do, right,
you go out there for five six days, you have
the bonding, you have your guys a chance to get
away and focus on football only. But man, it would
(36:27):
be hard to justify if you're Scott Ciderfield or John
Cunningham taking two important weeks leading up to the season
and spending them somewhere other than the Shakeley Athletic Performance Center.
Speaker 12 (36:43):
Yeah, and I obviously I don't know the numbers of
what it costs to rent that out. But when you're
in such a like pinching pennies time of the year,
time of college athletics and Cincinnati's in, when you know
you're making all these moves, and with the financial peace
in mind in terms of moving to Lukatoril in the
(37:05):
brass game, then moving the arrowhead, it's very clear that
it's more of a money thing than anything else. I
just don't think it's gonna make sense financially to pay
whatever it is when you know you can get that
at the IPS. So I don't see it going away
just because, like you said, of the tradition and the history.
But I just expected to be kind of scaled down
(37:29):
a lot.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
I agree.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
All right, man, Well, maybe i'll see you Friday night.
I'm not sure my daughter will be there for sure,
And we'll see you in a little while when you
get back from your honeymoon.
Speaker 8 (37:43):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 12 (37:44):
There are thirty guest requests that I saw on the DJ,
like planning app and I'm assuming that you're gonna be
about fifteen of them, just trying to get your nineteen
nineties hip hop in.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
I can go. Can you send me that link so
I can go make some requests. I appreciate that greatly.
Speaker 8 (38:04):
Parents list of the show.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
I'd appreciate that greatly. If you can go ahead and
send me that list. I'll see you Friday night. Brother.
We're super happy for you. We're excited, and uh, I
think it's going to be a great time. And thanks
for the intel. Talk to you soon. Yeah, yeah, there
you go. Keegan nickoson Bearcat Journal dot com. Let's take
a break our number two after this, since that he's
(38:26):
ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty traffic from.

The UC Health Traffic Center. Right now, over one hundred

Slash Transplant crews have now cleared out that earlier accident
eastbound on two seventy five at Taylor Mill. Still looking
(38:53):
up to a fifteen minute delay from Turkey Foot and
keep in mind me Clay Wade Bailey Bridge closed off
for repairs on that Zelich with the trumpic.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
This report is sponsored by Low's Now more than ever,
Low's knows you want the lowest pride.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati sports station.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
Here we go our number two, The Mowegar Show, hosted
by Not Mowegar, Load Management Season Mos on the beach
smoking a cigar.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
Good for him.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
I'm in the studio, grinding, grinding, Tarin.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
You'll be there this weekend.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
I will. I'm off the Florida on Saturday, Keegan's wedding
Friday night and then head to floor to Saturday morning.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
What a weekend, A wedding and then Florida.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
I know we actually the plan what we wanted. We
were going to go a day earlier, but I didn't
want to miss Kegan's wedding. And now after hearing the
DJ situation, I probably should have scheduled flight to Florida
on Friday. And how does he not know that song
Let's Get Married?
Speaker 3 (40:20):
Yeah, like.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
He just poo pooed that one immediately that that's not
going to be on the DJ list.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
And if the DJ doesn't play it, I know it's
not It may not be a song Kegan wants to play,
but you have to play.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
That, you would think. Then he said his brother was
number twenty four growing up in honor of Jeff Gordon,
and that they were having bush Light at the ceremony
or at the reception and it's in Hamilton. I tell you,
are we gonna play Guess that Bumper Music? Today?
Speaker 3 (40:56):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (40:57):
We do have tickets to give away, Okay, so we'll
do that in the five o'clock out.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
We can do a pair of this hour too. We
have two.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
We got two, okay. I think what I'm gonna do
this time is at the end of the segment, I'll
tell you to call in and line up and get ready.
And that way we don't have to like wait for
people to call in. Yeah, give them a couple of
minutes to call in, line up and get ready to
play Guests that Bumper Music, which was a smashing hit yesterday,
(41:23):
rousing success. Red's back at it tonight, big, big six
to five win. And that's two important wins in a
row in games that this team was not winning with
regularity to date this season. They come back on Sunday,
(41:43):
they win the series from the Tigers. It's the first
time they've won a series in the third game in ages.
And then they very easily could have folded in that
sixth inning. They give up four runs, they give up
the lead, they're trailing five to four, and they fight back.
(42:07):
And that's a big step for this ball club because
they had not been good in clutch situations. They had
not been good with their backs against the wall. I
also liked what I saw last night. They were facing
a pitcher that was struggling, not having a great year,
and it didn't start great. And we've seen a lot
(42:29):
of times this season when that happens, they can't get
back up off the mat, but they kept battling. They
get four on, two to out, two run doubles. Then
they lose the lead and they come right back in
the bottom of the six They answer right back, get
another two out hit from Jake Frayley, and boom back
(42:54):
on top. Bullpen does the job and they get a win.
Whether is interesting tonight looks like it's going to storm
right around seven o'clock, right around when things are supposed
to start, But it does look like there could be
a window after that moves through that they could maybe
(43:17):
get this game in, so we'll see on that one,
or we could be potentially dealing with dual programming tomorrow, Arran,
if there's a doubleheader the Reds and Twins tonight. Nick
Lodolo on the mound for the Reds and the lineup Freedol,
(43:44):
Lux de la Cruz, Steer, Benson, Trevino, Espinal Freyley McLain,
you're batting order for the Reds. Lidolo on the mound.
I'm gonna get I'll get back to the Reds in
the five o'clock hour. We got Richard Skinner coming up
at four point thirty where we will we will discuss
(44:08):
Bengals and Reds. But I'm still, you know, just looking
back at what the Ravens did today. They get Jay
Air Alexander to continue to shore up their secondary. They
get him on a one year four million dollar deal
with incentives to push it up to six million. It
(44:32):
is Jay R Alexander at the peak of his performance. No,
probably not, probably more on the backside. But their weakness
from last season was their secondary and they have gone
(44:53):
out of their way, young guys, veterans, you name it,
to get that problem fixed. So that Joe Burrow doesn't
throw for three hundred and fifty yards and five touchdowns
against their defense, you have to tip their cop to them.
And I had a discussion, a little bit of a
(45:15):
heated discussion, but a civil discussion with a caller last
hour that said, the Bengals have addressed their needs. I
think there is a drastic difference in what the Bengals
did and what I would term going all in. Maybe
(45:41):
that's just me, but one the caller brought up defensive line,
which they did get a run stopping defensive presence in
the middle of the defense that they desperately needed. So
kudo's on that they went young at linebacker. I don't
hate that, but do you consider a defensive tackle and
(46:09):
two young linebackers to be going all in? I would,
if we're gonna stick with the poker reference, that would
be like a min raise after the flop out of position.
I don't think that's going all in. Maybe it works out,
maybe it ends up being a stroke of genius and
(46:32):
the defense clicks, and you know, as we've talked about
many times on Moe has talked about it, Tony and
Austin have talked about it. I've talked about it. This
defense doesn't have to be top ten to give Joe
Burrow a chance to do great things, but they can't
be bottom five, and that's where they've been the last
(46:53):
two years. They've stunk, and I don't think they went
all in on fixing the defense. I just don't. Can
you tell me unequivocally you are convinced that Al Golden
is a better NFL defensive coordinator than lou Anaruma with
(47:14):
a straight face, because I don't think you can. Now.
I had my questions about Lou, especially when the defense
shifted from an older, veteran group that I think Lou
could do what he wanted to do, which was more
I think in like that Patriots Mold with Bill Belichick,
(47:37):
where week by week the defense had a different mentality,
a different outlook based on what they were facing, taking
away what the opponent does best. I think you can
do that with a veteran defense. I don't think that's
something that can be done with a young defense. And
I do think that played a significant factor and why
(48:00):
we saw this defense struggle the past two seasons. The
other problem was they didn't have good enough players the
past two seasons, and maybe I look at this defense
and say, hey, a little bit better here, a little
bit better there, maybe a few of those tweaks and
bringing in a defensive coordinator. That's intention is to have
(48:23):
more of a system that these guys play in to.
Kind of I hate this term because it makes it
sound like these guys can't handle it. But to quote
unquote dumb down what is being asked and just say
here's your assignment. Go execute your assignment. We'll live with
the results as opposed to every week coming in and saying, Okay,
(48:43):
throw out what we did last week. We're gonna do
something different this week. I do think that fits a
young defense better. So that's not me saying I don't
think the Bengals got better on defense. I think there's
a chance they got better on defense. We'll know by
September early October maybe whether they did enough. But we're
(49:05):
questioning whether they did enough, and that's because they didn't
go all in. That's because they haven't signed Trey Hendrickson
to his contract. The Bengals won twenty eight million for
one year. Trey is not interested in that. If the
Bengals are not gonna come off of that, I don't
(49:28):
know what the answer here is. And I think you're
gonna go through camp again not knowing exactly what the
situation is with one of your best players Jesse Bates,
t Higgins, Jamar Chase, now Trey Hendrickson. I don't think
(49:48):
that's good. I don't think that's good for Al Golden.
What do you expect Al Golden to do? Do you
expect him to plan out what this is going to
look like with Trey Hendrickson even though he's not there.
Do you expect him to spend camp working as if
they're not gonna have Trey Hendrickson, and then if he
does come back, a lot of the stuff you worked
(50:10):
on goes out the door, because that looks different with
the NFL sack leader lining up on the edge. I
don't think it's all in. I think they took some
of their issues and addressed them. But can you really
look at what they did on defense and say, okay,
(50:33):
now they're right up there with Buffalo, Kansas City and Baltimore.
I think those are the three best teams when you're
talking about rosters, those are the three best rosters in
the NFL or in the AFC. At least did the
Bengals do enough in the offseason to say they're on
par with those three rosters. I don't think they did.
(50:54):
And to me, that constitutes me saying I don't think
they've gone all in. I think they're still playing their hand,
but I don't think all their chips are on the table.
And to see the Ravens, who share the division, who
I think, with this move and the other moves they've
made in this offseason, have to some extent separated themselves
(51:18):
from the Bengals as the favorite for the AFC North
because they were more aggressive, because they looked at their
area of weakness and said doing a little bit is
not enough, doing just a night like, okay, we're a
(51:42):
little bit better. I think we're a little bit better.
I don't think that's enough. I don't think that's enough
for the Bengals to catch up to the elite teams
in the AFC outside of we have Joe Burrow and
you don't. And maybe you spend all that money on Joe,
(52:03):
and you spend all that money on Jamar and you
spend all that money on Tea, and that's just going
to be your philosophy. We have Joe and Joe's got
his weapons and you don't. But boy, I'd sure like
to see a little bit more creativity in getting there.
I'd like to see a little bit more aggression in
getting there. Like I said with Tony at the end
(52:24):
of Sincy three sixty, does it feel like this is,
without question one of the three best two to three
best teams in the AFC. I don't think it is.
So I think there's still too many unknowns on the defense.
I don't feel like they pushed their chips to the
(52:45):
middle of the table and said, we're just as good
as any of we know. This hand is the winning hand.
I don't think the Bengals gave themselves that hand. I
think they're okay with We'll win ten to eleven twelve games,
get into the playoffs, and we'll see where the chips
fall from there. Remember the La Rams when they won
(53:11):
their Super Bowl. They made bold moves, bold moves, sacrificed
potential future draft capital at the expense of doing everything
possible in that window to win a Super Bowl. And
(53:33):
they won a Super Bowl, and the Bengals still searching.
And I just don't feel like every possible resource was
given to Zach Taylor and to Al Golden to make
(53:53):
that happen against those three teams field, how many do
you think the Bengals are favored? How many times you
think the Bengals are favored. I don't think they're favored
against any of the three, and I think that's in
(54:15):
part because they're not all in. They weren't aggressive enough. Sure,
they address needs that, Yeah, you have to do that,
you have to do that. But it's one thing to say, Okay,
we went and got some guys that we think that
we hope can make us better, not going out and
(54:39):
completely overhauling things and saying, look, we don't have a
choice but to get better, because we can't win a
Super Bowl if we don't go from deficient in that area.
The Ravens secondary was deficient a year ago. I don't
think you can look at that group and say that.
Speaker 4 (54:57):
Now.
Speaker 2 (55:01):
Do you really think you can say that about the
Bengals defense at any level? Really? I don't know. I
don't see it. Phone lines are open five, one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty. Just take a break. We got Richard Skinner
coming up in about twelve minutes right here on Cincinnati
(55:23):
ESPN fifteen.
Speaker 1 (55:23):
Thirty Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty traffic from the.
Speaker 11 (55:29):

Speaker 2 (56:12):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, keep it rolling. It's got to
Marvin once talk Radze Bengals. Marvin not Marvin.
Speaker 10 (56:23):
Lewis, Right, No, sir, not Marvin Lewis.
Speaker 2 (56:28):
Do you see better than you hear?
Speaker 13 (56:35):
I never thought about that.
Speaker 10 (56:38):
Well, I'm the voids of positivity.
Speaker 4 (56:40):
Okay, it's a little different.
Speaker 9 (56:43):
Okay. Everybody wants to blame the defense last year for
not making the playoffs, and I don't. I blame the
offense and not being ready week one. When the defense
have won their best games of the season, they can
come up with a certain point.
Speaker 2 (56:58):
But I think you tearing and some people in the
building could have stopped that New England offense. Last year.
Speaker 9 (57:07):
We should have scored thirty points only I agree.
Speaker 2 (57:09):
I agree had.
Speaker 9 (57:11):
They won that game, they would have been in the playoffs.
Now here's the thing, the positive. If you look at
things positive, it sounds a big difference last year. In
the first two games, we lost both inside cackles. By
week three we had lost our number one starting court.
Now those teams you named a little earlier, Buffalo, Kansas,
(57:34):
see the Baltimore. Let them lose they two inside cackles
and their number one corner back and see if they
even have a chance to make the playoffs. Yew, the
defense has to be better, just if they didn't have
all their starting players and the offense. You say they
ain't go all in. I'm saying they had to go
(57:56):
all in. We are a small market team. They can't
do to the teams that the Rams and all those
other teams were big money to.
Speaker 2 (58:04):
There's a salary though.
Speaker 9 (58:07):
However, we may our quarterback the number one highest paid
quarterback in the NFL, but that's pretty much going all in.
Then we turned around and made our wide receiver the
highest paid wide receiver in the NFL. I call that
going all in and then the end probable no other
team's ever done was had true of the highest paid
(58:29):
wide receivers in the NFL. So at that point, I'm saying,
they've invested in what they know should work, and it
should be able to get us to any playoffs and
beat any of those teams. You man, we are surely
might a frame of Buffalo who can't see them to
beat us and can't to see who we know how
to be in Baltimore, who's in our division. I don't
(58:53):
see no problems with them, especially when we got a
defense that's gonna be playing together for at least more
of the season. And those cornerbacks everybody wants were undrafted.
All cornerback and defensive backs we need in the last
three years. That's what we've been doing. Getting them and
getting them together is not PlayStation. They can't just get
(59:15):
players and Publer man, the young all of a sudden
just start playing all great, especially the young ones, but
they not young no more. They got a little grit
under and our defensive tackles this year compared to last
year is gonna be ten times together because we got
some young guns on that line now and after tag
for Henderson, it's signing him now. You asking a small
(59:38):
market team with the highest praed quarterback, the highest stay
two rue I mean while receivers in the NFL, they
had the highest page defensivevent and don't even make sense.
And they have been trying to pease him for the
past three years. They broke the contract. Well, he broke
the contract and it gave some extra money two years ago.
We poke it again last year when he won't happen,
(59:59):
and they gave him some extra money. Over where this
contract is now. They've been cutting players and raising all
the capital they can. They up to twenty eight million
they already met and you.
Speaker 4 (01:00:09):
Don't want it.
Speaker 9 (01:00:10):
Well, that's fun. Will captinue to play? If you go
back last year he had all them sacks? How many
game changing sacks do you have? How many game in
this sacks did he have? I like the young guns
and the only reason are first round draft pick are
two years ago. Hasn't been doing much because he hadn't
had a chance to play because he played behind his
(01:00:31):
So on that note, I said, a very possumous season
coming up. I'm pretty sure we could be any of
those seens you name without a pope, because now decent
is gonna play a little better, Our offers are gonna
be a little better. They're being told the first week
this year not like last year. And that's what the red.
(01:00:51):
They're playing great when the young kids are down there
having a bomb and they're gonna be great. They they
don't need to go out and get nobody but maybe
a picture.
Speaker 10 (01:01:00):
That's it.
Speaker 9 (01:01:01):
Where that team falls in the nine and they finally
get all the players that should be starting a chance
to start together. And I'm being unstoppable.
Speaker 2 (01:01:11):
That's it, all right, I appreciate it. Thanks for the call, Marvin.
Speaker 4 (01:01:15):
Have a great day, right you two? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
I mean I don't have a problem with the optimism.
There's nothing wrong with seeing the glass half full. That
doesn't mean I agree.
Speaker 3 (01:01:27):
To being I'm fired up and I'm not even be.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Able to They have lost to the Ravens twice in
a row? Are they lost to the Ravens both times
last year? How many times in a row? And they've
lost to the Ravens there and it's it's not good. Right,
there's three three they've beat on four the year before
(01:01:51):
twenty four. They lost twice. Last year, they lost twice
in twenty three. Re Bro got hurt, right, Yeah, go
back to twenty two. They beat them at the last
game of the regular season and in the playoffs in
(01:02:11):
twenty two.
Speaker 3 (01:02:14):
Soh four.
Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
So they've lost four in a row of the Ravens.
I don't I don't know that you can just straight
up say they're better than the Ravens. They're gonna beat
the Ravens. They gotta show me what I say, Tarren,
I see better than I hear, Marvin. Let's take it bright.

That's how you get to the top of this world. Right.
(01:03:58):
Nobody knows that better then one of the angry guys
there's been grinding out radio spots for thirty years now.
Local twelve digital content editor Richard Skinner Skenny, how the
heck are you?
Speaker 13 (01:04:13):
I'm doing well? You know, honestly, this on this jutish.
I guess maybe July, because it's kind of when I
graduated college in nineteenth. Ive, le't me doing this this
stuff for forty years? Man? Forty years?
Speaker 2 (01:04:26):
Yeah, I started at Marshall in ninety five, so I've
been doing it for thirty You got a decade start
on me, but I've been somehow. I don't know, how
did you have this like thing after a while where
You're like, how in the world have I been doing
this for thirty years? This doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 13 (01:04:44):
I hit it all last angles season of how I've
been doing this for this month.
Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
The Ravens today signed jay r Alexander to further strengthen
their secondary. It feels like they are in all in mode.
That annoys me a little bit. Do you feel like
the Bengals are all in on winning a Super Bowl
right now? Richard Skinner.
Speaker 13 (01:05:09):
The way that they do business, they are, they feel
like they are. They feel like they did some things
in the offseason. They signed their big their big wide
receiver group that needed to be signed back in March.
They feel like they've they've made a fair offer to
Trey Henderson. He certainly doesn't. And they feel like they're
in the right with the Schumr Stewart contract, which I
(01:05:30):
don't think they are, but I think they think that
they are in that mode. Listen, I mean I know
people every time there's a guy like a gyr Auxender, I.
Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
Don't think the Bengals should have signed out to be fair.
Speaker 13 (01:05:43):
No, I know, I know you're not intimating that, but
I mean it feels like every time there's a guy
out there, the media members just jump on they need
to sign him. Well, no they don't.
Speaker 4 (01:05:50):
In fact, I.
Speaker 13 (01:05:51):
Remember last year media members said that about a tight
end from from Denver, and Zach Lewis kind of shot
it down, like, no, he's he can't play anymore. And
so you know, every time I see that, I laugh
because again, is it a fit? Cost effective? Does he
have any seat less than a tank?
Speaker 7 (01:06:07):
And he goes?
Speaker 13 (01:06:08):
If you could argue Jay Rosaner might but I was
already might not and they need to cost He was
probably worth it for Baltimore. But the Bengals feel good
about the cornerback situation.
Speaker 4 (01:06:16):
Maybe they shouldn't, but they do.
Speaker 2 (01:06:18):
Yeah, And they feel good about linebacker and they feel
good about defensive line. Is it fair? What is a
fair expectation on the level of improvement that they can
see defensively? Oh, middle of the pack.
Speaker 13 (01:06:35):
Ye couldn't be sixteen to eighteen a year, a middle package.
I don't know if that will happen, but I mean,
good gracious when we talked to Al Golden last week.
I love his optimism. But man, well we got done
and we'll walk down the hall, I said, Man, I
didn't realize they still have a Pro Bowl defense left.
They have great guys at every position, it sounds like,
And do he believe that that's good? I guess And
(01:06:56):
maybe here like you can get the most out of
them and more out of them than what they get.
And we're gonna find out for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
How many guys are in make it or break at
years on that defense, because it feels like we've gone
three drafts without really seeing anybody. We've seen guys play, okay,
Like it's not like it's been a complete loss on
the guys they've drafted over the past three years, but
I don't think we've seen really anybody take that step
from like drafted to starter to like Pro Bowl type
(01:07:25):
player or best player in their position. At the AFC North,
Like there's a bunch of guys that this is a
critical year for them.
Speaker 4 (01:07:34):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 13 (01:07:35):
Am I going to get Cam Taylor britt of part
of two seasons ago and and Cam Taylor bit at.
Speaker 9 (01:07:40):
The end of last season.
Speaker 13 (01:07:41):
If I am I got myself a good player. If not,
I got a guy who really struggled. They still don't
know if DJ Turner is a starter or not. Obviously,
Dad still still coming back to a knee injury, and
we don't know how.
Speaker 4 (01:07:49):
Long that'll take to get him back up to full speed.
Speaker 13 (01:07:52):
Yeah, well, Josh Newton take a jump from his rookie
year to his second year. It sure seems like they're
playing them all over back there from both both outside
corner spots and slot spot and Al Golden spoke very
highly of him, although he spoke very highly, as I mentioned,
of everybody other than Miles Murphy. And so yeah, I mean, uh,
you know, even even last year to some degree, I
don't know if he made it, but he didn't break it.
(01:08:13):
Like Joseph O said, those last seven games he had
a half a sack and six of him at least
a half a sack and five overall. And that seemed
to be when he started getting healthier and getting more
playing time. And was that just the guy who finally
got kind of got out all the marriage of everything, right,
of getting more and more snaps and finally being healthy
and kind of getting it the light bulb kind of
going off, and he took a nice step forward to
(01:08:35):
the point where I think he's a reliable player now.
But yeah, to your point, like Miles Murphy, you know,
he's still got another year on his rookie contract after
this one, so it's not technically making or break it,
but you know, year three, it's time to al Golden said,
it's time to go right, It's time to go right. Yeah,
it's time to.
Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
Go All of you guys, the the Bengals media that
had been in attendance for OTAs and mandatory mini camp
have raved about Joe Burrow and the way he's looked.
Is there a what does a better Joe Burrow look
like in twenty twenty five, because it's hard to imagine,
Like the numbers he put up were insane, Expecting him
(01:09:13):
to match those probably not realistic, But is the reality
he could play better and maybe not be as great statistically.
Speaker 4 (01:09:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (01:09:24):
I mean he's even talked about that, there's always something
he tries to nitpick at. He hadn't really mentioned what
the nitpick is this year. Last year, he wanted to
get better on unscripted plays and he did. You know,
as much as people don't want Joe to get hit,
and they don't want Joe to scramble. Sometimes there's benefits
to scramble plays as we know, right, I mean, defenses
tend to break down in the secondary on those plays.
And what's Patrick Mahomes the dog on good at him
(01:09:46):
running around like a crazy man for seven seconds and
then going, oh, yeah, you're sixty yards down the field
and I can get it to you and I'm just
gonna win it. And I think Joe did did much
better at that last year, you know, to your point
of it, I mean seventy percent completion, you know, forty
plus touch down passes. He doesn't for as much as
he drops back. That Charlie doesn't throw many interceptions. I
think you would also argue, though, you know, I need
(01:10:07):
to make a throw on.
Speaker 9 (01:10:08):
Thirty and six in the fourth quarter to keep the.
Speaker 13 (01:10:10):
Drive alive to run the clock out, or to keep
a drive alive to go win a game. I think
some of those things, you know, needed him. That the
offense missed out on some opportunities to close out games,
either on a last drive to maybe win it or
a drive that maybe could have saulted it away and
gave a team an opportunity to come back and score.
I mean, they had a great comeback against the Chargers.
And yes, Evan mc pherson kicked a couple of field goals,
(01:10:31):
but he's also forced to kick a couple of field
goals because the offense didn't convert. And that's that's not fair, right,
I mean, the offense did it, it's part for the
most part, but again, you were in the position you
could have done it. It was in your hands to
do it, and I think that probably eats it, Joe
a little bit of it.
Speaker 9 (01:10:44):
Listen.
Speaker 13 (01:10:44):
I want to finish these things out with us, not
by having the defense have to go make a stop.
I want it to be the offense finishing it out.
Or to his point, you know, maybe scoring touchdowns earlier
in games to build a lead and be able to
play from a head. So for him, there's always something
he's gonna nitpick at. But to your point, I mean,
if you just look at the raw stats, I mean,
can you do better? Sure there's been some better statistical seasons, right,
(01:11:06):
but it's hard to believe you can do better.
Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
You know what I'm gonna is gonna drive me nuts,
skinny when when I'm driving around in the car listening
to national radio, They're gonna kill Joe Burrow if he
doesn't match statistically what he did last year.
Speaker 4 (01:11:21):
No doubt.
Speaker 13 (01:11:22):
And even if Phyllo's just say the Bengals defenses is
good enough to where the offense doesn't have to do
everything and you go twelve and five with the offense
maybe not doing as much or Joe not doing as much.
But sometimes there's a match to going twelve and five
and managing games like, yeah, you know, maybe his stats
go down because guess what the fourth corter this year,
they're able to do turn out, hand the ball off
and run clock out. I mean, you know, it's easy
(01:11:44):
to put some big numbers when you're having to throw.
Those are the guys we all have to take. I
mean a lot of times in fantasy football, we take
guys on bad teams, right who are just behind, all
down and they got to throw. So we take those guys.
You know, maybe the year where Joe has the opportunity
of fourth quarter have to throw maybe two passes in
handoff twelve times and let the clock bleed out, and
so in that regard the stats to go down. But
(01:12:04):
at that point the winds are going up and I
think he won't even tell you the wins is a
more important team.
Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
Let's switch focus to the Reds here, Skinny, I have
not yet purchased the television package from Bally's FanDuel whatever
it is now to watch the Reds. I've watched highlights,
I've followed on game cast. I've listened on the radio
(01:12:29):
on the Big one, seven hundred WLW. Has this team
done enough, Skinny, to get into my wallet, to get
into my checkbook and get these games on TV?
Speaker 13 (01:12:44):
I would think, in all fairness, give it to the
All Star break.
Speaker 4 (01:12:48):
Let's just see if there's a consistency level.
Speaker 13 (01:12:52):
The one thing is Ellie is just in the last
whatever three or four weeks. And I was a little
critical earlier in the months earlier last month of you know,
I think he's a good player, but he hasn't blossoped
the great. But guess what he's done here for the
last few weeks. I mean, he has been just off
the charts great.
Speaker 4 (01:13:07):
And they need that.
Speaker 13 (01:13:08):
I mean, I think they're counting on that. You're starting
to get Matt McLean hitting a little bit, and they
were counting on that, you know, and they finally have
gotten somewhat back to health to where you're not needing
guys to bat in the fourth spot of the lineup
or a second spot in the lineup will have.
Speaker 9 (01:13:22):
No business batting the four spot or second spot.
Speaker 13 (01:13:23):
They're slotted where they need to be slotted, and you
know you're starting pitching depth is enough for right now
to take the hit of Hunter Green for a short
period of time, or for whatever period of time it is.
Parently can't take another one unless you're willing to gamble
on bringing Chase Burns up. But it's still I mean,
on a nightly basis, you can look and go. I
think the Reds have an edge of starting pitching. That
doesn't mean you're always gonna win those games, but sure
(01:13:44):
you've got a chance every night. And you know, I
don't know if they can get into long winning streaks.
The one thing they've avoided though, right they've not Doe,
the last team in Major League Baseball to not be
swept in a series this year, and there's something to
be said that. I think starting pitching is a big
part of that. Like they got stoppers in that rotation.
Now it's a matter of if the bats can get
back consistent. I think this team will be fun to
(01:14:06):
watch from here throughout the season. And you know, I've
done kind of a one to eighty on that now.
I predicted him in a comment earlier Shop, I did
win eighty seven games and fight for the division, and
then as it went on, it felt like we did
the last time I was on your show. On the show,
is it felt like groundhog Day? Well, becauesn't feel like
that anymore because the SuperStar's becoming the superstar. The guys
who you're expecting to put up some numbers are starting
(01:14:26):
to do it, and the pitching continues to hold up.
I mean Andrew rabits an All Star. I mean you know,
by I said one starting pitcher for the regud being
All Star before the year began, we'd all scream on
a dream, right and he's pitched great, don't get me wrong,
but right now you go, ok, you get one pitture
of picked in the Reds. Who would it be? See
Andrew Rabbit.
Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
Chase Burns seven innings, seven strikeouts, three hits, one run
today in Louisville. How long before he is at Great
American Ballpark, maybe taking the place of Wade Miley.
Speaker 13 (01:15:00):
Great question, and I think it's a fair one to ask,
But I wonder if in the back of their mind
there's Rhet Louders here. And I don't think they brought
up Rehet Lauder too early.
Speaker 4 (01:15:08):
I don't.
Speaker 13 (01:15:08):
I think he just got hurt like pictures today get hurt, right,
But you can always question did you do something out
of whack? I mean, they really have Chase Burns if
you kind of look almost on the same path that
Rhet Louder took last year. Yeah, started high A, go
to double A, quickly moved to triple A. And some
of it was by default. I mean they needed a
starting pitcher and he was tagging. He was it in't
(01:15:29):
I understand they do have him on an innings count.
I don't know what that is, a number is, somebody
may report it, but they do have him on an
innings count, and that would include where he's at right now.
So then if you bring him up, do you go
to a six man rotation to help limit some of that?
Speaker 4 (01:15:42):
Maybe?
Speaker 13 (01:15:43):
Do you do you pitch him and then go August
twenty seventh, when he's reached his pitching limit and you're
a game out of first place, right you ever gonna
shut him done?
Speaker 2 (01:15:52):
It's hard.
Speaker 13 (01:15:53):
So you're a tough spot there.
Speaker 4 (01:15:55):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:15:56):
I mean what we talked about it this offseason, Skinny,
like they don't have anybody that's throw one hundred and
seventy five innings outside of Singer, So this is right.
They're still trying to work some of these guys up
in year three were to add.
Speaker 13 (01:16:09):
To other I mean, yeah, I don't know if you've
seen what the what the Giants are doing. They're trying
now in their minor league system to let their minor
league kitchers go longer, to try to develop that I
you know, how everything's sick. Maybe we'll go back to
the days when guys through fifteen complete games. I'm at,
maybe stats throw fifteen complete games.
Speaker 2 (01:16:28):
Yeah, I don't think you're gonna see anybody throw fifteen
anybody throw fifteen complete games. So tonight Nicolodolo is he
finding water? Finding its level with him? Like maybe he's
just not a one or two, Maybe he's a three
or a four.
Speaker 13 (01:16:45):
I don't know, man, I still like his stuff. But
but your point's a good one. You know, he always
feels it feels like he flashes brilliance and then it's
two or three. Mess starts and maybe even one bad
one thrown into the mix, and it does make you
wonder that again, I still think he's a quality pitcher.
You know, every pitcher goes through phases. Now, I will
tell you, though, I mean, if you get hit around
again tonight, and then you do have to start to wonder, hey, man,
(01:17:08):
what's up? And especially with the guy who's had an
injury history, right, or maybe he writes the ship tonight
and Dan throws ninety pitches because you break it pitch
ninety one apparently anymore, and he pitches ninety good pitches
and kind of writes the ship a little bit.

(01:19:35):
a Laker.
Speaker 3 (01:19:36):
Fan, he better be spending on the Lakers like he
does with Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (01:19:40):
This is the man that also owns it. Can you
imagine having that much money that you just buy a
majority share of the Dodgers and the Lakers. He's just
power moves, sir. The one thing I will say about
the uh venture capitalists getting into team ownership, they got money.
(01:20:10):
They are the exact opposite of what we deal with
in Cincinnati, which is team owners that had just enough
to be team owners in the Brown family. Obvious, that's
different because when Paul Brown left Cleveland, he's kind of
given this. It has been the family business and they
(01:20:32):
don't have anything else besides the Bengals in their portfolio.
But like the Castellinis, they are the quote unquote poorest
ownership group in Major League Baseball. That is not what
is going on with the Dodgers, the Mets. You know,
(01:20:54):
these venture capital guys, they get into owning a sports
team because they want to win championship and they got
the money to go win it. Like, if you had
that much money, wouldn't for us in this world? Wouldn't
that be what you wanted to do. You got billions
and billions of dollars, and you've got the ability to
just go do what you want to build a championship team.
(01:21:20):
Heck yeah, man, I think you gotta feel good though,
right Like, I don't think there's any question this guy
is gonna be, uh financially looking to do everything you
can to win a championship here, and he's got Luca.
Speaker 3 (01:21:41):
I'll say, yeah, we got Luca, so.
Speaker 2 (01:21:44):
You can build around that. It'll be interesting to see
what this relationship is like with Lebron.
Speaker 3 (01:21:50):
Who wanted the ring fors Luke or or Joe.
Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
Boy, that's a tough one. I mean, I feel like
there's a better support system in LA than there is
in Cincinnati. I'll go Luca. I'll go Luca. I want
(01:22:16):
to see Joe win one. It'd be nothing better than
seeing how this town would reac I mean, I was
thirteen when they won the World Series. When the Reds
won the World Series, hasn't happened since. I remember how
insane this was. I was at the parade with my dad.
Great story about that, Tarn I don't know if I've
(01:22:37):
told you this or I've told this on air before.
The day of the parade. My dad takes me to
school that morning, and the assistant principle that handled like
you know, absence notes and things like that was a
family friend of ours. So I get a note from
(01:22:59):
my dad and I take it in and then the
note basically says like, please excuse Chad, he's going to
the to the parade for the Reds. And she's like,
tell your dad that is not an excuse. He needs
to say that you have like a dentist appointment or something.
(01:23:20):
My dad just being as you know, my dad's as
honest as they come. Please excuse Chad, he's going to
the opening or the to the World Series parade. No,
you can't know, Like I need a better note than this.
I'll go tell him. Love it still went. I touched
(01:23:42):
the I touched the World Series trophy tearn. I probably
wouldn't allowed to do that. If you'd have done what
I did back in the day like now, you'd probably
have gotten shot. But I like snuck up on stage
after like the like the parade thing was done, the
ceremony was done, gave it a little gave it a
little touch. That's my uh, it's my parade.
Speaker 3 (01:24:06):
Story. Also, if you'd do that, if they went when
one soon.
Speaker 2 (01:24:12):
I mean I could probably, like, I know enough people
over there, I could probably like get somebody to let
me like hold it eventually. Maybe not the day of
the parade, but I think I could. I think I
could pull enough strings to make something like that happen. Now,
back then, I didn't know anybody one like I, you know,
I'm not the didn't grow up in the Brenneman family
(01:24:33):
where you know, you knew every or like my daughter
now who's fourteen and knows everybody in the market. I
didn't have those advantages back then.
Speaker 3 (01:24:47):
But yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (01:24:48):
Would probably tell her, like, go touch that. You got
to carry on the tradition. I was thirteen when it
happened for me. You're fourteen fifteen, Now go touch it,
Go touch the trophy. Also another news tearan Shardoor Sanders
(01:25:08):
pulled over doing one oh one in a forty a
forty mile per hour zone. What why why if you
have to do that, find somebody to let you on
(01:25:30):
like a racetrack or like, uh, you know an airport
field that's that's closed there? Why are you driving one
hundred miles an hour and a forty miles per hour
zone like I look at people like I legitimately, I
don't understand it when you see people doing that on
(01:25:51):
the highway. You're gonna get there thirty seconds quicker. You're
not making some like thirty minute difference in your time
of arrival, driving like a lunatic, weaving in and out
of traffic and making things more dangerous for everybody else.
(01:26:12):
Does that make me old man that yells at cloud.
Speaker 3 (01:26:16):
Yes, okay, but it's fair though. Use you gotta read
the room. Henry Wilkes just got out of jail.
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
Yeah, And you're trying to win this job. You're trying
to be a starting NFL quarterback. You're trying to make
the team. Right first, you gotta make the team.
Speaker 3 (01:26:34):
He's look.
Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
Shitter. Sanders is significantly better than Dylan Gabriel. That's I've
seen both of those guys play enough. That's not really
He's gonna well unless he continues to do this. Is
that's the other thing is this is him justifying what
everybody thought about him Selfish doesn't get it, no matter
(01:27:02):
how well he was raised around football and the lessons
his dad taught him. This is validation for the people
that wanted to shoot you down to say that you're
you're not an NFL quarterback, You're not somebody that that
(01:27:23):
that a franchise can trust. Because for a guy that
was as good at the position as he was in
college to fall as far as he fell, this is
something that that people worried about with you, and you're
(01:27:47):
gonna get caught on one on one and a forty stupid, stupid.
It doesn't make any sense to put yourself in that position. Now,
it's a distraction. Now you're gonna have to have questions answered.
Now you know you're you're probably gonna have to go
(01:28:09):
to court. They're not just gonna let you out of
a ticket where you're going sixty miles an hour over
the speed limit, one hundred and fifty percent over the
speed limit. Come on, man, I wanted to see the
kid kind of beat the odds because I like to
(01:28:30):
see a guy like that prove everybody wrong. But going
out and doing this, you're proving them right. Knucklehead. Quit
being a knucklehead.
Speaker 3 (01:28:49):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:28:50):
When we come back, we're gonna play another round of
guests that bumper music. Phone lines are open, now, call
and get in line. We are giving away a pair
of tickets to the Club World Cup, the FIFA Club
World Cup. The match is Saturday noon, TQL Stadium. I
(01:29:11):
butchered the names yesterday. I'm not going to do that
to myself again today. But uh Saturday noon, TQL Stadium,
the Club World Cup. If you want tickets, get in
line five one, three, seven, four nine, fifteen thirty. We
will play guests that bumper music when we're you returned.
This is the Moeger Show, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:29:35):
Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty. Traffic from the.
Speaker 11 (01:29:40):
UC Health Traffic Center. Right now, over one hundred thousand
people are waiting and hoping for an organ transplant to
save their life. Sign up to be an organ donor
or explore a living donation at UCHealth dot com slash
transplant East. Found on two seventy five, there's an accident
after mini Ola Pike. That one is off onto the
right shoulder, grow abound seventy five before Mitchell. A disabled
(01:30:03):
vehicle off onto the right shoulder that from the earlier
vehicle fire on that exelk with traffic.
Speaker 2 (01:30:10):
This report is sponsored by Rock Welcome back TOINCE ninety's
ESPN fifteen thirty. So what are we gonna do, Tarran?
Do we do we just tell more people to call?
(01:30:30):
Or do I let him guess? If he guesses, then
we can't use this one.
Speaker 3 (01:30:39):
Terrence thinking, well, he can guess, but he can't win him.
Speaker 2 (01:30:43):
I know, so do I take?
Speaker 3 (01:30:45):
Do I do I do?
Speaker 2 (01:30:46):
What do I do?
Speaker 4 (01:30:47):
Here?
Speaker 3 (01:30:48):
I need?
Speaker 2 (01:30:48):
I need, I need guidance?
Speaker 3 (01:30:50):
Well, first you got to let people know what we're doing.
Speaker 2 (01:30:51):
All right, we're playing Guess that bumper music. It's a
new game that Arran and I play at At hand
is a pair of take gets to the FIFA Club
World Cup that's taking place Saturday. The matches at noon
at TQL Stadium. So if you know this bumper music,
(01:31:13):
call in and you can win yourself a pair of tickets.
We're gonna be doing it in the next segment as well.
We have a caller, but he's already won recently, and
I know he knows this, like this would be easy
for him. I'll wait for the phones five, one, three,
(01:31:37):
seven thirty. Guess that bumper music. See if you can
guess that one, it's a it's it's a tricky one.
If we were making them do the artist Taran, because
I think everybody thinks it's one artist technically, but it's not.
Speaker 3 (01:31:55):
Right. Yes, but that's what we do. I guess it
was kind of easy.
Speaker 2 (01:32:01):
Yesterday was kind of easy.
Speaker 3 (01:32:03):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:32:03):
Who do who am I talking to? And can you
guess that bumper music? There you go away, there we go.
Speaker 9 (01:32:16):
On the track.
Speaker 2 (01:32:18):
I love it, all right, we got our winner, Tarren.
I'm gonna put you on hold. What's your name, Chris, Chris,
I'm gonna put you on hold. Terry's gonna get you
set up, appreciate it, and I'll just talk to mister Ace.
Maybe mister Ace called to talk to me. He's probably
mad at him that I wouldn't let him guess that
that track, mister Race, what's up buddy.
Speaker 8 (01:32:41):
Man ter cm b is. I would always say, it's
the Midwest West colin everything day.
Speaker 9 (01:32:47):
You know what I like to hit?
Speaker 4 (01:32:48):
Ship? You want would live?
Speaker 8 (01:32:50):
So let me kick some lyrics on the through lives
like ma. But I would have crushed that man if
you would have gave me the chance, I would have
passed some tickets Aready Dance gave them away for free
just because I got that coward. I kind of forward,
but char we how argument.
Speaker 2 (01:33:11):
I'm doing great, mister Race, I'm doing wonderful. I do
want to tell everybody else that's on the line that
called in hang out on the line, because we're gonna
do another one when we come back from break. But
I hadn't talked to mister Race in a while, so
I figured we should. We should chop it up.
Speaker 8 (01:33:28):
Man, just op here sweating it up in the whole
nine of fom. Keep on making the scot brick for
Pharoh so Barrow can get a couple more dollars. Long
I continue to plot my plans my exodus.
Speaker 9 (01:33:43):
But hey, it is hot.
Speaker 8 (01:33:49):
Is swim out here today?
Speaker 4 (01:33:51):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:33:52):
That's I have not been upset that I am inside today.
I'll tell you that much.
Speaker 8 (01:33:57):
I don't know. I know, I don't meat the book
a few other things from my personal business, so I
proper it's an employer that I think got sneaking ills
with my employment. But I got jokes today just for
the puite of free. But since you was talking about
some key stuff about our wonderful city sports teams, we
(01:34:20):
do have some very enepth ownership groups for our football
and baseball team. And that's actually probably the reason why
teams like see now Sacramento Kings could not last in
the greater Cincinnati area when they wear the Cincinnati Royals
because one market, two, probably ownership, three, probably just.
Speaker 14 (01:34:46):
The fans don't want to support a team that does
not consistently win. That's why we have a minor league
hockey team and not a pro hockey team.
Speaker 2 (01:34:55):
I mean, not wrong, it's it's it's frustrating because, like
I said, it feels like they are perfectly okay with
with being okay, and that's not good enough.
Speaker 4 (01:35:07):
So that.
Speaker 8 (01:35:10):
Is not good enough. These things really have been wanting
to and ready to turn straight up new.
Speaker 14 (01:35:16):
Be here on the ownership groups for both the Bengals
and for the Rids. I mean, it was so sad
that when the Bengals actually used to have games get
blacked out because they weren't getting spouts, and.
Speaker 2 (01:35:28):
I mean you have to go find the game one.
Speaker 14 (01:35:31):
Satellite or some other means to watch it because Channel
five and Channel nine were not showing the games back
in the day. I mean, it was amazing that they
fortunately never blacked out a Monday night football game right
after they had Super Bowl, because I think we had
like some Monday night games in like ninety two and
(01:35:52):
ninety three when the team was pretty much stinking up
the joint and you're wondering how they still got a
Monday night game. But it's like for some relevancy because
of some wins and Super Bowl in the playoffs when
I mean it helped us me on Monday night football
a couple more times.
Speaker 2 (01:36:10):
But it's like, man, when frustrating.
Speaker 14 (01:36:14):
Yeah, I mean, it's like it puts the team at
a spot where they need to get the Hendrickson deal straight. Personally,
you shouldn't have drafted a guy who's only sacked the
quarterback less than.
Speaker 4 (01:36:31):
Shoot.
Speaker 14 (01:36:31):
Man, I think I get more sacks off of a
backup player off.
Speaker 10 (01:36:34):
Of video game than that guy.
Speaker 2 (01:36:35):
And he had four and in four years, three years.
Speaker 10 (01:36:41):
It's like the potentials there, But I mean it's like
the fact that him and his family has I mean,
to be honest, he drank all the hot songs and
he thinks.
Speaker 3 (01:36:50):
He's the stuff.
Speaker 14 (01:36:51):
But I mean it's like you go out there and
you sip another goose egg like Miles Murphy.
Speaker 10 (01:36:56):
I mean, it's kind of it's kind of scary.
Speaker 2 (01:36:58):
Yeah, I'm on the side of Stuart more than I
am of the Bengals here though, because I think the Bengals,
if they wanted to change the language, they could have
done something like increase the amount of bonus money that
he's gonna signing bonus money to offset. Look, we're asking
you to do something. We're gonna give you something. That's
how it's supposed to work, That's how life is supposed
(01:37:21):
to work. We're gonna change up the way that we
do things and as a result, we're gonna, you know,
make it financially beneficial for you to do something that
favors us. The Bengals aren't doing that, so you know,
I don't love the way that they're handling the Stuart
stuff personally.
Speaker 4 (01:37:42):
Well sorido.
Speaker 14 (01:37:43):
I think it's like not knowing all the details of
the contract is one thing, but also throwing in the
fact that you've got a guy who really didn't prove
from a stats standpoint other than he can get close
to the quarterback and create some level of havoc and yeah,
that's about it. I mean, I don't think that they
as the team had so many sacks that it makes
(01:38:05):
a difference like, all right, yeah, you created half because
somebody else finish the deal that'll make him probably the
greatest wingman in college football. We're not trying to sign
a wingman.
Speaker 3 (01:38:17):
To a contract.
Speaker 14 (01:38:18):
We're trying to sign a pass rusher that actually gets sacks.
Not good stats for I guess just to say those
saying you got some good stats.
Speaker 3 (01:38:30):
Yeah, that's fair.
Speaker 2 (01:38:31):
All right, Ace, I got to hit a brother. It
was good talking to you. Good hearing from you. And
call me back soon.
Speaker 14 (01:38:35):
All right, certainly, mister samb All right.
Speaker 2 (01:38:39):
Thanks Ace. All right, let's take a break another round.
I've guessed that bumper music. Right after this the Mogger
mo Eggers show Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:38:52):
Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 5 (01:38:55):
Traffic from the UC Health Traffic Center.
Speaker 11 (01:38:58):
Right now, over one hundred thousand people are waiting and
hoping for an organ transplant to save their life. Sign
up to be an organ donor or explore a living
donation at UCHealth dot com slash transplant. There is an
accident on Princeton Pike. This is over near Crescentville Road.
Also got a crash eastbound two seventy five at through
(01:39:19):
Miniola Pike. That one off on the right shoulder in
a disabled vehicle eastbound Columbia Parkway before kemper on thatdies.
Speaker 2 (01:39:39):
Think it's probably the toughest one yet, Darren, all right,
let's play it. Name that bumper music, Brad, do you
know the bumper music?
Speaker 4 (01:39:57):
I do not know this one.
Speaker 2 (01:39:59):
Oh oh, that's a tough that's tough. All right, thanks man,
appreciate it if you want to get in. Five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty, guess the bumper music. This one's tough. This
one's not easy. I told Terarran when he picked this one.
(01:40:21):
I said, ooh, I don't know you and I know
this one, Tarren, I think it might be scaring people away.
Speaker 3 (01:40:34):
Drewd is walking studio saying he got it immediately immediately.
Speaker 2 (01:40:39):
I didn't know Drew Western hide he had it down
like that. Oh yeah, I mean I knew he knew
some but like you know this this. You've got to
be a hip hophead to know this one. It's too bad.
You who can't win. I know Trew's not allowed to win.
I don't think anybody else knows the Terran. I think
we'll get somebody, all right, if you know it, or
(01:41:00):
if you think you know it. Five one, three thirty
tickets to the FIFA Club World Cup up for grabs
Saturday noon, TQL Stadium. If not, you want to try
it again in the final segment, or I mean, you'd
have to come up with a noose a third song
(01:41:20):
for the day. That's tough.
Speaker 3 (01:41:21):
Oh no we're not. We're going to come right back
with that one.
Speaker 2 (01:41:24):
No, we're gonna come right back with that one. And
somebody's got to guess that one or nobody gets the tickets.
Drew might get them anyway, got a mic, all right, Mike,
Yeah you know this.
Speaker 13 (01:41:43):
One get byed?
Speaker 9 (01:41:49):
Oh my gosh, well.
Speaker 2 (01:41:54):
Quali very close, close enough, And Tarren said, all you
needed to know was the new aim of the song.
You had the name of the song. So Mike, congratulations
and I Tarren plays that one on my per my request.
I love that tune.
Speaker 8 (01:42:11):
Yeah, no, it's it's great.
Speaker 2 (01:42:13):
No, it's great.
Speaker 9 (01:42:13):
And that's why I knew the the the song named
it from jammen back in the day.
Speaker 2 (01:42:17):
But I remember the artist, so that's awesome. What other
group was he in and who was it with?
Speaker 3 (01:42:21):
Do you know?
Speaker 2 (01:42:23):
I do not remember? Mm Tarren, you wanna fill him in?
Do you know, Tarren? I know Tarran knows. I think
Tarran knows.
Speaker 3 (01:42:31):
No, huh.
Speaker 2 (01:42:32):
Really, wow, I'm surprised by this. I'm surprised by this.
Speaker 9 (01:42:39):
Arren.
Speaker 2 (01:42:42):
Uh, Mike, Tarren will will get you taken care of.
So I'm gonna put you on hold and we will
get you your tickets. Appreciate it, man, Congratulations. Who's gonna
be a lit It's black Star.
Speaker 3 (01:42:58):
Yeah. I wouldn't have got that one.
Speaker 2 (01:43:01):
Him and most deaf. See Yaslin bay is most death
changed his name. Yes, huh yeah, black Star was tylib
quality and most deaf back in the day I got.
(01:43:24):
I can't believe I stumped you on one, Taran.
Speaker 3 (01:43:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:43:27):
I feel pretty proud of myself right now. All right,
let's keep it rolling as we we finish up this
final hour. I'm I'm impressed, Mike get by tyl lib quality,
love it the Reds. I I'm almost ready to be
(01:43:52):
heard again. I don't know if I'm fully ready to
be heard again, but I'm I'm close ready to be
heard again. I have I have not bought all in yet.
I'm where this team is at in twenty twenty five.
(01:44:13):
And I've talked about this in the past a lot
of times, and it's it's changed as the College Sports
Challenge calendar has changed. I used to be out on
the road a lot in April doing AAU tournaments and
things of that sort. That's changed now it's more covering
the transfer portal. So I'm very busy in April into
(01:44:38):
the early parts of May before my schedule kind of
starts to slow down for a couple of weeks into
the summer. And it's difficult for me to fully invest
in my Red's fandom during that period where a lot
of times, you know, I'm doing podcasts at night and
(01:45:02):
a lot of content creation at night, so I don't
get a chance to fully tune in and watch the
Reds until we're into the middle of May, and and
that kind of determines my Reds watching for the for
the year. Are they good? Are they interesting? Are they fun?
(01:45:24):
Are they different than what I expected? And coming into
this season, expected this to be a five hundred team
that was challenged offensively good pitching. Wasn't sure what they
were going to look like defensively, wasn't sure. I was
hopeful that like the base running issues and some of
(01:45:45):
those mistakes would be cleaned up by the new staff
and in following for this job and paying attention at
a level that I that I needed to to be
able to talk about the Reds. It just felt like
it wasn't it wasn't worth the time investment. Baseball is
(01:46:05):
a massive, massive time investment as a fan. It's every
day for six months. And when you're at a point
that I'm at in my life, I'm a single dad,
I own a business. There's a lot going on. I
(01:46:26):
need the Reds to hold up there into the bargain
to be worth watching, and so far it didn't feel
that way. To the point that I have not gotten
the fan Dual Sports Network to watch Reds games on
TV nightly. I just haven't felt the need. Hasn't hasn't
(01:46:51):
been something that when the season first started that I
had the time for, and now that I do have
the time for. To this point, they haven't come held
me to pull the trigger on that purchase. That's their responsibility.
They have a product. I am the consumer. You have
to make me want to consume your product. But now
(01:47:17):
they're getting a little interesting. Now they're starting to hit
a little bit more, they're starting to be a little
bit more consistent, they're starting to get production up and
down the line up. Even if it's just enough production,
the pitching has still been very good. Can that continue
without Hunter Green for the foreseeable future. We'll see. But
(01:47:43):
I'm getting to that point, and maybe this is something
that get back from vacation next week, middle of next
week and reassess the situation. Skinny said earlier all Star break,
give it to the All Star Break and then judge
from there. And I think that might be the plan.
(01:48:05):
Jim has called like four times here. Let's go ahead
and see what he's got to say. Jim, how you doing?
Speaker 4 (01:48:13):
Did so many guess a so long? Already?
Speaker 2 (01:48:15):
Yeah, they already got it, Jim, Oh bummer, Sorry man,
it was taalib quality. Get by.
Speaker 4 (01:48:24):
All right.
Speaker 9 (01:48:24):
I would have got it wrong anyway, Thanks.
Speaker 2 (01:48:26):
Man, No problem. And he was he was diligent, Terran.
He called like seven times. He really wanted those club
World Cup tickets. All right, let's take a break. If
you want to talk some reds or you want me
to give my final thoughts on h on going all in,
(01:48:48):
we'll do that after this. Since at He's ESPN fifteen.
Speaker 1 (01:48:51):
Thirty, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty. Traffic from the.
Speaker 11 (01:48:56):
UC Health traffic Center. Right now, over one hundred thousand
people are waiting and hoping for an organ transplant to
save their life. Sign up to be an organ donor
or explore a living donation at uc health dot com
slash transplant East found two seventy five, has still got
that accident after Minnie Ola Pike. It's been moved onto
the right shoulder was found Harrison. Another accident before Queen
(01:49:20):
City Avenue and on Montgomery and accident at Hopewell Road
on at Ezelic with traffic.
Speaker 15 (01:49:36):
Buying business the cities coming backstage, she got me gotman.
Speaker 2 (01:49:47):
Final segment of the day.
Speaker 15 (01:49:51):
From the Stylus Cruise in my Lexus land with good choice.
Speaker 2 (01:49:59):
Let's go to phones, Jake, what's going on, Jake?
Speaker 4 (01:50:03):
What's up? Y'all?
Speaker 2 (01:50:04):
Not much man? Having fun? How about you?
Speaker 4 (01:50:08):
Me and my boys on the way down to the
Reds game. He wanted to say, what's up?
Speaker 2 (01:50:11):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (01:50:13):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (01:50:13):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (01:50:14):
Brother?
Speaker 2 (01:50:14):
How are you?
Speaker 4 (01:50:16):
No matter what?
Speaker 14 (01:50:17):
Diding practice after her?
Speaker 2 (01:50:19):
That's awesome. Who's your favorite player?
Speaker 4 (01:50:26):
Cruse?
Speaker 2 (01:50:26):
That's what I figured, That's what I figured. That's the
right call. That's a good choice. Did you bring a poncho.
Speaker 7 (01:50:38):
Now we'll buy one.
Speaker 2 (01:50:39):
Okay, that's good, Stay dry, all right, have fun and
maybe maybe get you a foul ball while you're there.
Speaker 7 (01:50:44):
Okay, okay, about to get the bubblehead of yeah, you got.
Speaker 2 (01:50:51):
You gotta get there early to get that bibblehead.
Speaker 7 (01:50:55):
Oh, we'll get in there riot batting practice.
Speaker 3 (01:50:58):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:50:59):
Well you what's your name?
Speaker 12 (01:51:01):
Liam?
Speaker 2 (01:51:02):
Liam? You have an awesome time and enjoy it because
you'll be talking about these trips to the ballpark with
your dad when you're my age and I'm old.
Speaker 3 (01:51:09):
Liam.
Speaker 2 (01:51:13):
Have a good night, man, Hell we go there you go,
thanks man, no problem, Jake, have a good one. Did
you have anything he wanted to talk about? Or you
just wanted me to talk to you? To Liam?
Speaker 1 (01:51:27):
Nah?
Speaker 9 (01:51:27):
Man, he heard somebody else call in, He said, can
I call in?
Speaker 2 (01:51:30):
I said, I love it, love it man, Thank you
have a good one.
Speaker 9 (01:51:36):
You're welcome by by.
Speaker 2 (01:51:38):
I mean I think me and Liam probably could have
wrapped some reds for a little while.
Speaker 3 (01:51:41):
Oh for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:51:43):
I mean they were to get down there quick if
trying to get that Ellie bobblehead, Darren.
Speaker 3 (01:51:48):
I think he'll be I think they'll be good. Well,
he didn't ask you did you bring his glove?
Speaker 2 (01:51:52):
Yeah, that's true, that's true. I think they'll be okay.
I'm just saying, like they line up for that bad boy.
Speaker 3 (01:52:02):
And you got those jerks who want to Reinteractadium trying
to get the multiple they get.
Speaker 2 (01:52:06):
They buy multiple tickets and try to come in, come out,
come in, come out, jerks. Liam needs an Ellie de
la Cruz bibblehead. Don't be a jerk. I didn't want
I don't want today to sound like I like i'm
I'm I'm whining about the state of where the Reds
and the Bengals are tarran. But to see I mean, look,
(01:52:31):
this is getting Aaron Rodgers a sign of going all
in for Pittsburgh. No, but it is a sign that
like they feel like they have a window. There's a
former MVP out there. He's he's not as good as
he used to be, and I think it's gonna end
horribly for Pittsburgh. But he was the best option. He
was the best that they could do, and they went
and got it done. And the Ravens I think have
(01:52:53):
improved their team. I think the Ravens are a better
team than they were a season ago because they are
guns blazing, all in on winning a championship, and unfortunately, Tarren,
I think Skinny probably hit the nail on the head.
They think they're all in the front office believes that
(01:53:19):
they're all in on winning a championship. I just don't
think they know what that actually is about because they've
never done it. They've never lived it, they've never had
that experience of reaching the mountaintop and what it looks
(01:53:39):
like to me, you have the two worst guards in
the NFL. You don't go get a mid round draft
pick and a kind of a journeyman whatever you want
to call guy to come in and compete for that job.
There's two jobs. No, you attack it. You're gonna get
(01:54:01):
the best guys you can get, and you say we're
gonna do everything we can to protect Joe Burrow. They
didn't do that. They were passive and that's frustrating. That's
(01:54:22):
gonna wrap it up. I appreciate everybody for listening in.
We've got one more day of me tomorrow and then uh,
it's vacation time. I'll see you tomorrow. The Mowagger Show,
