Speaker 2 (00:00):
Tony.
Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Bengals have their first training camp workout today. Trey
Hendrickson is not expected to be there. Shamar Stewart is
not expected to be there, and we have spent a
lot of time talking about those two players. Regardless of
whether or not those guys are in the mix at
the start of training camp, this team has to have
a better pass rush and I kind of feel like
we have talked so much about Trey Hendrickson's absence and
(00:21):
so much about the Shamar Stewart situation, that we haven't
focused on a guy who is going through a make
or break season and maybe a make or break camp,
and that's Miles Murphy.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah, you know, it's crazy. We talk about draft picks,
and we talk about value in draft picks and not
wasting draft picks, and in the importance of hitting on
these players to get good quality players under rookie contracts
so you can continue to compete from a free agency standpoint.
As much as we've talked, like you said about Shamar Stewart,
Miles Murphy was that guy that they drafted to sink. Okay,
(00:53):
this is the plan. Once Trey Hendrickson moves on, this
is the guy to fill in that role, and at
the time you may not known that Sam Hubbard was
going to wrap it up that quick. But you look
at the makeup of this team, they're lacking leaders, they're
lacking playmakers on the defensive side of the ball. Miles
Murphy was drafted to be a playmaker. He was drafted
(01:13):
to be a high end sack guy that can get
up to the quarterback, which in turn can help the
secondary of this team. If it's not now for Miles Murphy,
when you're going to get enough kicking reps and you're
going to get more opportunities, it is, it's that now
or never standpoint for Miles Murphy. As training camp gets underway.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
And to a degree on a defense that has to
be markedly better than it was last season. You could
say that about a lot of guys that Al Goldhen
is going to be coaching, specifically in the secondary. I
want to talk about players like Cam Taylor, Britain, Das Hill.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah, we went off air last year and the last
show we did for the football season and said we're
embarking on probably one of the biggest, if not the
biggest offseasons in Bengals franchise. History, and you look back
as we're starting today, what was accomplished. There are question
at safety, there are questions about some of the younger players.
There's obviously questions about the defensive line. You can question
(02:06):
guard on the offensive side of the ball. I know
that this team has upside and there's still a top
ten team from a Super Bowl value standpoint because of
Joe Burrow in the receiving corps. But if this team
is going to come into form, if this team's going
to compete, it is going to be outgoing and getting
more out of Cam Taylor Brett. Can Josh Newton take
another step forward? What does it look like for the
(02:29):
players that were either written off last year under lu
An Rumo or were buried on the depth chart. It's
a new scheam, it's a new staff, which means a
new opportunity and fresh start for a lot of players
that may feel this is their opportunity to catch on
in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
