Speaker 1 (00:00):
Tony. Day one of training camp came and went yesterday.
You have been a part of an NFL training camp.
You've obviously been covering Bengals training camp for years. We've
heard a lot of talk about how training camp was
going to be different this year, and in ways that
go beyond the timing of practice, where now they're working
out in the morning. What about yesterday, if anything felt
different to you in relation to previous years.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
I thought we saw a little bit more eleven on
eleven for day one, and it's hard to evaluate that
because you don't have pads on yet, but I think
they did get together more. I think there was more
competitive drills happening, and Bil Burrow alluded to that was
talking about the defense winning after yesterday's practice. But more
than anything, the last couple of years, day one and
day two of camp they've been out there about an
hour they were out there. I feel like yesterday about

(00:42):
an hour and forty five minutes, hour and fifty minutes
just getting in more work and a lot of it
can be just more reps and drilling the little stuff.
But the tone is not just from Zach Taylor. The
tone about a fast start reverberates through this whole roster,
and they all talked about it, and I think day
one you got to see a little bit of that,

(01:03):
with the urgency, with the tempo and the overall time
that they were actually out on the practice field.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
You know, for as much as we talk about Trey
Hendrickson's not there, Shamar Stewart's not there, and those things
are a big deal, here's who was there yesterday. And
I think this is important. You talked about it with
me yesterday. Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase. Joe was not
throwing passes to Jamar Chase early in training camp last
year because he was holding in. He wasn't practicing, and

(01:29):
Jamar still went on and had an unbelievable year. We
talk a lot about how the Bengals got to get
off to a fast start. Having Joe and Jamar on
the same page week one is vital, and I think
it's going to be really interesting to see if it's
possible can they expand upon his role which they already
started to expand upon even further last year.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yeah. Look, I didn't even realize going into camp until
it happened about five minutes into the day. Yesterday on
an individual drill back to back plays mo he hit
Jamar Chase and he hit Tee Higgins and I said, well,
that's something we didn't see all training camp at all
last year. And you think that that goes into a
slow start, especially for Joe Burrow in Week one against
the Newingan Patriots. I think they're adding more to Joe's plate.

(02:10):
I think they're adding more to Jamar's plate. Joe talked
yesterday after practice. He was asked, you know, with where
his game is at and the season he had last year,
what do you want to work on? He said everything,
because the second you get complacent, the second you feel
like you've arrived, someone's going to pass you by. And
I love that mindset from Joe Burrow and I think
that mindset sticks to the offense as well. We talked
about it last night on a camp report. The offense

(02:33):
has heard nothing but good things about them all year.
They've been patted on the back. The offense did their job.
I think it's a quarterback. Now you've got to reset
the tone and say, look, this isn't last year. We've
got to be better than we were last year. And
that starts with a fast start, and that was clearly
the focus on.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Day one Training camp. Day two today practice this morning
at ten o'clock. It is open to the public. Will
have a cover for you on the Tonian Mode Training
Camp Show on ESPN fifteen thirty. And the Bengals opening
up the preset season two weeks from tonight when they
head to Philadelphia to take on the defending Super Bowl
champion Eagles with Tony Pike. I'm Moeger
