Speaker 1 (00:00):
One more check in with Tony Pike on the race
and Claire roofing hotline. Tony has been at Bengals training
camp all day long. I know one of the answers
is today's training camp winner Jermaine Burton. But you and
I had a conversation this morning about Bengals X factors
heading into the season.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Run through them for me, Yeah, I think Jermaine Burton
is clearly one of them for every reason that we've discussed.
You look at the guard position for the Cincinnati Bengals,
and I say X factor because if you're thinking of
one way that this season de rails, well, then that
would be an injury to Joe Burrow because he's not
being protected. The guard spot has to be an X

(00:38):
factor for this team. We talked about Evan McPherson, who
wasn't an X factor last year. He has been. If
you look at that playoff run, the Super Bowl run,
he was males, he was lights out. He was an
X factor, a weapon for this Bengals team. I have
him as one of the X factors. I know you
talked about a guy in the secondary that I think
a lot of people will agree with, Tim tam Or

(01:00):
Britt is an X factor for this team because at
one point you thought he had star power to be
a number one, and on another sense, he was bench
last year. So which Cam Taylor brit are you going
to get? What does the star power look like there?
And I think a guy in Oron Burks is interesting
because if Oron Burks is the Oron Burks that played
in the playoffs for the Philadelphia Phillies last year and
grated out, so well, what a weapon he is alongside

(01:23):
of Logan Wilson. And then you also have Demetrius Knight,
a rookie that they drafted after they signed Oron Burke.
So you know, from an X factor standpoint, we know
what Jamar Chase and t Higgins and Joe Burrow are.
We know what Gasiki can be, we know what Chase
Brown can be. But some of those players that if
their game picks up, then this team is going to

(01:44):
surpass some of the levels that maybe people even have
expected them to get to.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Going into training camp, we have talked a lot about
differences from previous years versus this year. One thing that
has stood out to me in the first three practices
has been their length.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yeah, I mean this was you remember your past. We
do these training camp reports and an hour and twenty
minutes on the field, they're done, they're moving on. It
felt like a country club atmosphere. I go back earlier
in the week, Charlie Goldsmith looked at one of the
practices and said, from a non petted practice standpoint, he
thought it was the most physical practice he had seen
in covering the Bengals. They've been out there nearly two
hours every single day. We've yet to see anyone take

(02:22):
a VET day a day off this team. It feels
like that from the moment Joe Burrow spoke after practice
onon he was setting a tone, he was making a statement,
and I think that's reverberated through the team. This team
knows that they can't start slow again. They know how
a slow start last year hurt them when you look
at this year. So I look at all those factors together,

(02:44):
I don't think you're going to see many VET days,
and I think you're going to see the urgency and
the intensity continue to pick up. From a practice standpoint
and an overall length.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
