Speaker 1 (00:00):
On Thursday.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Remember Thursday's game is a five to ten first pitch
because there's a postgame Thomas rec concert. So the series
finale will coincide with a Todd Frazier signing. He is
going to be visiting the Hall of Fame on Thursday
for a pair of special autograph sessions from three forty
five to four forty five inside the Reds Hall of
Fame m Museum and then from five to six. And

(00:24):
remember the game is at five to ten on Thursday,
from five to six at the Hall of Fame shop
inside the ballpark, which is just inside that gate down
the first baseline. Todd has been busy, just got done
calling the Little League World Series and headed back to
town to hang out side autographs on Thursday. It is
always good to have him with us. Todd, what's going on?

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Hey, guys, how we don't mean everything's wild? I'll complain.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Yeah, I mentioned you called the Little League World Series.
You've done this for a while. Obviously your history with
that event as a player has been well documented. That
event seems like it's an absolute blast to call.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
Yeah, it's it's honestly, you think about it, like when
I played there and they asked me to come back.
It's no brainer. I mean, kids from all ages, adults
from all ages. It's it's mecca of young kid baseball,
and there's nothing better.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
What is it like? Walk me through the process.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
You're obviously calling the games differently than you you would
be when you're calling major league games, and obviously recently
obviously doing some some work for the Yankees. Walk me
through the difference in preparing and executing the broadcast when
it's kids versus guys who are getting paid.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah, it's interesting. It's a really good question.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Now you try and find the good in everybody, whether
it's you know, you're doing the Yankees or you're, you know,
doing Little League. But the storylines are just incredible. You know,
you got you know, guys that three brothers coaching, You
had Siplets play for Australia, you got another girl play
this year. You know, the stories, the guys, the guys

(01:59):
that is favored character or favorite famous person he loves
is Walt Disney, like who's said stuff like that? Which
is just incredible, And you find storylines or the kids
from Venezuela. I think you might have signed a deal
already with a major league team, So the storylines are
blown up more and they're they're wonderful, like there's no

(02:20):
bad things that can happen there, and if they do,
they find a way to shut it down quick.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
And we move on.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah. No, it's fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
You were obviously also a part of the coverage of
the Home Run Derby this year. It's impossible to talk
about that event without referencing you in twenty fifteen. So
you flash ahead to Thursday, You're at the Reds Hall
of Fame. You're gonna meet a lot of fans. Is
there any one of them that you anticipate? Says they
weren't there in July of twenty fifteen to watch you
win the Home Run Derby.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
No, I mean every time that time comes around, I
get all the love from Cincy, which I really appreciate
because you know, that's where I did it, That's why
I played for and that's what I was trying to
win for that city, and they give me all the
love in the world, they give me the respect, And
anytime I can go back there, which I'll be there tomorrow,
I really can't wait. It's exciting times. And there'll be

(03:12):
a bobblehead too. So I can't wait to see that.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
No, that's gonna be a cool sixty dollars autograph in
bibblehead package which includes the autograph and the autograph is
going to be on the twenty twenty four Reds Hall
of Fame Todd Frazier Bobblehead. You were here for opening
Day in twenty twenty three, and but there have been
a lot of things that have happened for the good,
and then maybe some things that have happened that we
would like to see go down a little bit different.

(03:37):
But it does feel like overall the collection of talent
the Reds have had get to the big leagues has
changed significantly. I know you've had a chance to watch
Ellie Dela Cruz. What has it been like watching him
establish himself as one of the most talked about one
of the faces of baseball.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Yeah, this guy.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
You know, you think about sophomore seasons, they call those
sophomore slumps.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
This guy than have one.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
He's clicking in on all cylinders. He's got a canon
of an arm and he is just so much fun
to watch. He's made big adjustments, especially from the right side,
and he's a guy that you're gonna want to watch
until he's done playing baseball. He could fly, you know,
Hunter Green, I mean the name another guy. He's throwing
the heck out of the ball. He's in some Cy

(04:21):
Young Award winning talks right now. And you got a
plethora of good left handed pitching and guys that could play.
So it's just a matter of everybody's staying healthy and
putting it all together in a.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Way they'll be You mentioned the sophomore slump, and I mean, look,
you went through some of that in twenty thirteen right
where it felt like the league kind of figured you out.
So walk me through the process of in that second year.
Once the league has they've got the book on you,
and now you've got to adjust to how the league
has adjusted to you. Walk me through that process.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Yeah, it's tough.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
I mean, honestly, if you think about it, I almost
broke the single season record for going over a consecutive
and I remember Drew Stubbs.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Had it and I was one away.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
I think it was all for thirty two or thirty three.
I was oll for thirty one. I end up hitting
a double and Dusty Baker told me to looking for
another third base and unless you pick it up. I
went ten for my next twenty and the rest is
really history after that. So you kind of have that
moment like, yo, what is going on here? Like wake up,
let's go this is what you dream of do and
figured it out, got out of it, and you know,

(05:26):
had a really okay career if you want the truth.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Yeah, I mean I would say I would say better
than okay. But you're you're being modest.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
You think. I think of that time you.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Joined the Reds in twenty twenty one, you become a
full time player in twenty twelve, and a really fun
period of time, and all of that is coinciding with
by then, Joey Vado's an established superstar, wins the MVP
the year before you get here. You played with him
for quite a long time. He just retired. Give me
some perspective on what it was like to play with

(05:58):
him and then and then watch him go through this
seventeen year career that I think for a lot of
us we believe is.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Going to end up with him in Cooperstown.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
I mean, listen, one of the best hitters you're going
to ever see during his time, the work ethic, the
way he went about his business.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
He was just, you know, unmatched. He is. It's batting
cage routine.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
The way he worked on defense so hard, and the
way he led. You know, everybody has a different way
of leading the team, and he did it differently, just
like anybody else would, which from Scott Rowland to you know,
Ryan Ludwick just to name couple guys of Skip Schumacher.
But Joe vato Is is just a guy like you
want to be around. He's the guy that you flocked

(06:44):
to and you leaned on.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
And when you lean on.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
Somebody's it's incredible to see what they can do, and
you know.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
They're going to come up in some big situations.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
I mean, I've seen some history with him, and he
just made it look effortless and I wish him well.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Man did awesome.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
You know you mentioned a name there, Scott Roland got
to Cooperstown last year, and I remember when Joey got
hurt in twenty twelve, You're playing first, Roland's playing third.
I mean, did you realize in real time how lucky
you were to be teammates with a guy who in
Scott Roland, you know, his career had been well established,
he was going to get to Cooperstown one day, and

(07:22):
then Joey Vado was a star by then, and here
you are kind of in between both boys. It's such
an enviable place for a young guy. I'm sure you
appreciate it now, but did you fully appreciate that back then?

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:37):
And what I learned from those two, you know, it
just happened. It just happened to work out, which is,
you know, you didn't want it to work out the
way one got hurt. I forget who got hurt first.
I think Bodo got hurt first. So I played first,
or fight first.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Or whatever.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
And then when Votto was coming back or when Scott
was coming back, the other one got hurt. So I
went to the other corner. And it kind of kickstarted
my career in the right path because I learned from one,
and then all of a sudden, I got to go
another corner and I learned from them. So I learned
the first and third base within a year span, and
I think honestly I mastered it. It was something that

(08:15):
you know, I took to heart.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
I wanted to be the best on everything I.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Did, and you know that made mistakes, don't get me wrong,
But what I learned from those two during that time
period was something that you can never take away.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Todd Frazier will be at the Reds Hall of Fame
