Speaker 1 (00:00):
Relatively lethargic performance for FC Cincinnati in its last match.
I'm sure there's going to be different personnel on the
field tomorrow. Match tomorrow is at seven o'clock. Our guy,
Kevin Egan Apple TV MLS season passes with us. You know,
we talked a lot Kevin about First of all, it's
good to have you the league's cup format. It feels
like it's worked, hasn't it.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Yeah, hey, Mo, hope you're doing well. But yeah, I
think so, you know, I think there's a lot more
urgency to the play from these players. Now, last year,
you could have had Cincinnati taken on, you know, two
teams from MLS and then maybe another MLS team in
the knockout stage, and it just didn't intrigue as much
or excite as much. I think now, given that it's
all against lega MX teams until you know, at least

(00:42):
a semi final is really exciting. And it put Cincinnati
in a really tough spot. Now four points, Like you said,
they pick up a point from a penalty shootout lost
the last day, and I feel that they'll be kicking
themselves after that because even a win, you know, in regulation,
so a ninety minute win, say tomorrow, and three points
doesn't get guarantee Cincinnati getting through because of results elsewhere.

(01:03):
So it's going to be a bit of a nervy one.
I think it's going to be a case of just
you know, figuring out what happens in the other games,
and Cincinnati has got to take care of business against
the Schieva side. That is a massive club, arguably, you know,
alongside the Club America, the most popular in North America,
so many fans. But they're already out and I think
they'll rotate and Cincinnati have a chance to really go

(01:25):
and secure their path because this is a tournament that
Cincinnati can win.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Why has Shevas historically not been good in this competition?

Speaker 2 (01:34):
It's a weird one, isn't this. It's a really weird
look looking back to twenty twenty three and all against
MLS teams too, that Shivas have just struggled in a
major way. It's a fascinating club, Like they only play
with Mexican players, so in many way they're restricted on
who they can bring in. It's the same with Athletic
Club to build out over in Spain. They only play
with players from the Basque region and such rich culture

(01:56):
and history to their club, but it puts them out
a little bit of a competitive disadvantage when Cincinnati can
go and bring in a guy like a band there,
for example. But Shiva, I'm I'm not quite sure. I've
yet to figure it out with them, because they bring
the fans, they put out their stars, and they've underwhelmed
in this tournament. But as we know in CONTCAFT Champions
Cup play, when they can play at home, they're a different.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Beast, no question about that. For FC Cincinnati, I would imagine, Kevin,
you would expect at least some personnel changes for tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Yeah, because you've got to keep Charlotte in mind at
the weekend as well at Major League Soccer play, like
the games are coming taken fast at that news right now.
But I will say like I was a little surprised
Buka started from the bench last time out against Suarez
and Myles Robinson did too, and that came out a cost.
I mean, maybe there's an argument that Cincinnati were a
little bit poor us in midfield without Buca, who's been

(02:46):
absolutely brilliant, and no Whobodo still and still no Kubo
who's been out injured since may so I think that that,
you know, midfield tandem of Anunga and Buka is really
important not to mess with. So we'll see if he's
back in for this one. But Pat Newnon has said
today that this is a tournament they can win. They
want to win this game, they want to advance to
the next stage. And wouldn't it be epic to see

(03:08):
Cincinnati and Tiqel potentially host the League's Cup final because
we saw Columbus win it last year and what it
meant to them, And I know Cincinnati would certainly be
a great place for the final.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Yeah, I think it would be awesome, And if it
could occur in the context Kevin of you know, them
winning the Supporter Shield again or making a deep playoff
run would just be even sweeter.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
And they're right there, you know, for anyone that's listening
in their cars right now or at home, like Cincinnati
are just one point off the Supporter Shield, you know,
leaders Philadelphia, and Supporter Shield is the crown given to
the best regular season in Major League Soccer. So for Cincinnati,
if you win the Supporter Shield, then you've got home
field advantage throughout the playoffs, which since he had a
couple of years ago as well, So it's right there.

(03:53):
For Pat Newnon's team, I think they're probably the most
complete team in MLS when you think about what they
have going forward versus and also what they have at
the back as well. You just need Kevin Dank back.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Now.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
It's been a while, it's been like a month or so,
so hopefully Dank's back sore.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Yeah, let's definitely hope that's the case. Tomorrow night, FC
Cincinnati and Shiva's League's Cup. Going to be paying attention
to other matches as well, all of it covered on
MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Always enjoy having you, Kevin,
thanks so much.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Yeah, cheers body, great chat which is always enjoying us.
It's not behind the paywall, so head over with Apple
TV if anyone's interested tonight and check us out. We're
on air this evening at six thirty pm Eastern for countdown.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
No question about that awesome stuff, Kevin, Thank you, Cheers
