Speaker 4 (00:48):
It's five minutes after three o'clock. This is ESPN fifteen

I hope, uh but we're having an awesome and I
mean awesome Wednesday afternoon. We have been busy and so

Speaker 4 (01:21):
We are keeping an eye on the game in Chicago
today Reds and Cubs. Cincinnati is looking for a suite.
The eighth of the staff, the all star Andrew Abbott,
is on the mound for Cincinnati. It is getaway day.
Reds are off to Pittsburgh. They'll face Paul Skeins tomorrow.
This is, I think, for that reason and many many others,
kind of a big game right now. They have played

(01:43):
three innings. Jake Frayley with a really nice catch in
left field that helped minimize the damage. But the Cubs
score a run in the bottom of the third inning
and take a one nothing lead to the top of
the fourth. Obviously, the Reds winners last night, a terrific
Red's debut by Zach Lettel, big home run by Spencer Steer.
Chicago today has so far gotten three flawless innings from

(02:07):
Kate Horton.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
It has won nothing. Cubs.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Red's come into the plate with Spencer Steer leading off
in the top half of inning Number four. Red's come
into play three games out of the last wild card.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
They are now.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
They're now three behind both San Diego and New York.
The Padres and Mets are tied for the second and
third wildcard spots. So we are scoreboard watching and so
far good news from Flushing, where not only are the
Guardians leading the Mets by a score of four nothing,
but Cleveland pitcher Gavin Williams is working on a no

(02:43):
hitter the Guardians. The Mets are actually batting in the
seventh inning. Gavin Williams has thrown seven and one third
no hit innings. I do not believe in Jinx's, so
I have no problem mentioning that what we care about
most about is New York losing that game. It is
a four to nothing Cleveland with the Mets batting right
now in the bottom of the eighth inning. As for

(03:07):
the San Diego Padres, they are finishing up their series
against the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight. So we've got Reds and
Cubs to keep an eye on. We've got Mets and
Guardians to keep an eye on. We have a lot
to get to this afternoon. Bengals play tomorrow night. FC
Cincinnati plays tomorrow night. The Reds are in Pittsburgh tomorrow night.
It's the League's Cup for FC Cincinnati. Our guy Kevin

(03:29):
Egan from MLS Season Pass on Apple TV is going
to join us. Coming up in just about ten minutes
Chad Brendlin the four o'clock hour on UC Football and
our buddy, one of the longest standing friends of this show,
maybe its longest standing friend. And not only that, a
wonderful stand up comedian Josh Sneed, is going to be

(03:51):
with us in the five o'clock hour. We'll have instant
reaction from Chicago as soon as the game ends again
one nothing Cubs with the Reds batting in the top
of the fourth inning. There is also a game tomorrow.
We'll I have Tony Pike with us at three forty
five to talk about the game tomorrow between the Bengals
and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
And we've kind of joked about this.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
We've joked about like you know, this is a necessary
evil and none of us are really looking forward to
watching it.

Speaker 5 (04:17):
But like.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
You know, very few of us care about preseason results.
I guess the only ones who do are people who gamble,
and like I love betting on football, I don't bet
on preseason football. I'm not so much worried about the results.
I am worried about the look. I am interested in
the look tomorrow. When I think of the Bengals over

(04:40):
the last couple of years in regular season openers, and
I think specifically the last two years, the game in
Cleveland two years ago and the game last year at
home against the New England Patriots, I don't necessarily think
of the fact that they lost the game or that
those losses reverb rated deep into the season. Had the

(05:02):
Bengals won their season opener in either of the past
two years, they make the playoffs in those seasons. But
when I think of those losses, I think of how
they looked.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Much of it is Joe Burrow.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
One of the reasons why I have a lot of optimism,
and one of the reasons why I think a lot
of us have a lot of optimism for the Bengals
this year is Joe Burrow is preparing for a season
where not gone Wood. He's not dealing with an injury,
he's not coming off the surgeon's table. He didn't just
have an appendectomy. There's no lingering issue. He's not hobbling
around with a bad calf like he has looked great.

(05:38):
He looks healthy, he looks fresh, he looks poised to
have a great year, in large part because he's not
trying to put an injury that he just suffered or
just had operated on behind him. But when I think
of that first game the last couple of years, what
comes to mind is how the team looked. The word

(06:00):
clunky comes to mind, disjointed comes to mind, sloppy comes
to mind. Some of that's on Joe Burrow. Some of
that's not so much on Joe Burrow. The word unprepared
comes to mind. I have tweeted this out the last
couple of years during Bengals openers, quote the Bengals look unprepared.

(06:21):
So the first game is a month from tomorrow. What
they do tomorrow might not have anything to do with
how they play that first game against the Browns. But
if we're gonna do the what do you want to
see from the Bengals tomorrow night? What are you looking
for in the first preseason game?

Speaker 3 (06:39):
That's it?

Speaker 4 (06:40):
A certain look, A certain look that doesn't bring up
the word clunky, A certain look that doesn't bring up
the word sloppy, a certain look that doesn't bring up
the word unprepared. Give me something clean, give me something crisp,
give me something that looks like it's pretty well oiled.

(07:03):
It's preseason game number one. There are probably going to
be preseason game number one types of mistakes. But I'm
looking for a look tomorrow night like that's Isn't that
what matters most? I guess what matters most is does
Joe Burrow get through this game? And do the players
who matter most get through this game without dealing with
some sort of health problem?

Speaker 5 (07:23):
Right?

Speaker 4 (07:23):
Does Joe? Are we talking next week about OMG, something
happened to Joe?

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Now?

Speaker 5 (07:29):
What?

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Right? That's number one?

Speaker 4 (07:30):
Avoid that, but number two, and almost as important, do
they play well enough? Do they look good enough to
suggest that when the games actually matter, we're not calling

(07:50):
them clunky, we're not calling them sloppy, and we're not
calling them unprepared. If you don't want clunky, and by
the way, I think I have set around record for
most times using the word clunky in one radio segment.
Obviously this is a medium that goes back over a century.
But if you don't want clunky in week one, then

(08:11):
let's not see it in pretend Week one. I don't
need Joe Burrow to have a one hundred percent completion percentage,
although that would be nice. They don't have to score
every time they touch the football. They don't have to
play flawlessly. But I think you know what I mean here,
right If you have watched the Bengals in the regular
season opener the last couple of years, they just they've

(08:33):
looked kind of broken, not well put together, ill prepared, clunky, sloppy, disjointed,
and they've lost. I think, if nothing else tomorrow, let's
walk away from the game going, you know what, that
looked pretty good. Certainly there are gonna be some players

(08:55):
who we look at and go, boy, they played well.
And chances are there's gonna be some guys, even if
the team is a whole plays well that we go
that guy's first preseason showing wasn't very good. Some players
under the microscope, and some guys who have a lot
to prove and narratives to shed, and I mean, we're
gonna get to all of that. But like, as generic
as it sounds, I'm looking for just this basic look

(09:17):
from the Cincinnati Bengals that is unlike anything we have
seen in recent season openers. Obviously, the Bengals could look
like the greatest football team on Earth tomorrow night. That
doesn't guarantee anything when they play the Browns, but it's
been that they lose these games early. But they lose
these games early because of how ill prepared they look
and how sloppy they look. I'm hoping for something tomorrow

(09:41):
night that would strongly suggest that it's not that likely
that we see a repeat of previous season openers in
this year's season opener. Show me a look, Let's not
talk about clunkiness. Fourteen minutes after three o'clock. Our phone
lines are open at five point three seven four nine
teen thirty eight six six seven two three seven seven

(10:03):
six works as well. Andrew Abbott on the mound today
for the Reds. Chicago is batting in the bottom of
the fourth inning. Reds trailing the Cubs by a score
of one nothing. Looking for a series sweep of the Cubbies,
which would be completely and totally awesome. They're off the
Pittsburgh for a four game series this weekend at Mouleger

(10:24):
On Twitter thanks to Delta Dental, Delta Dental is building healthy,
smart and vibrant communities for all go to Delta dentaloh
dot com. By the way, Gavin Williams are the Guardians
got through the eighth inning without giving up a hit,
and so Metz trail Cleveland for nothing. Guards batting in
the top of the ninth inning, Cincinnati trails New York
by three. Gavin Williams has not given up a hit.

(10:45):
He has thrown one hundred and eleven pitches. I assume
he's going to come back out for the ninth inning,
but he has thrown eight no hit innings at Cydney
Field in New York. More important for you and I.
Hopefully that score holds. Hopefully the Reds can come back
in this game they're playing right now and at least
gain a game on New York with the Padres playing
later on tonight. FC Cincinnati is going to try to

(11:06):
get three points tomorrow against Hivas in the League's Cup.
Kevin Egan Apple TV MLS Season Pass joins us to
talk about the Orange and Blue. Next report from Tony
Pike in just about twenty five minutes. Twenty one minutes
after three. This is ESPN fifteen thirty on Oleger. It's
FC Cincinnati and Shivas tomorrow in the League's Cup Orange

(11:28):
and Blue. It's gonna say trying to bounce back. They
did get a point over the weekend. Still relatively lethargic
performance for FC Cincinnati in its last match. I'm sure
there's gonna be different personnel on the field tomorrow. Match
tomorrow is at seven o'clock. Our guy, Kevin Egan Apple

(11:48):
TV MLS season passes with us. You know, we talked
a lot Kevin about First of all, it's good to
have you the League's Cup format. It feels like it's worked,
hasn't it.

Speaker 6 (11:58):
Yeah, Hey, mo, I hope you do well.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
But yeah, I think so.

Speaker 6 (12:01):
You know, I think there's a lot more urgency to.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
The play from these players.

Speaker 6 (12:05):
Now, last year, you could have had Cincinnati taken on,
you know, two teams from MLS and then maybe another
MLS team in the knockout stage, and it just didn't
intrigue as much or excite as much. I think now,
given that it's all against LEGA MX teams until you know,
at least the semi final, is really exciting and it
put Cincinnati in a really tough spot. Now, four points,
like you said, they pick up a points from a

(12:26):
penalty shootout lost the last day, and I feel that
they'll be kicking themselves after that because even a win,
you know, in regulation, so a ninety minute win, say
tomorrow and three points doesn't guarantee Cincinnati getting through because
of results elsewhere. So it's going to be a bit
of a nervy one. I think it's it's it's going
to be a case of just you know, figuring out
what happens in the other games, and Cincinnati has got

(12:48):
to take care of business against the Chieva side. That
is a massive club, arguably, you know, alongside the Club America,
the most popular in North America, so many fans. But
they're already out and I think they'll rotate and Cincinnati
have a chance to really go and secure their path
because this is a tournament that Cincinnati can win.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Why has Shivas historically not been good in this competition?

Speaker 5 (13:12):
It's a weird one, isn't it.

Speaker 6 (13:13):
It's a really weird look looking back to twenty twenty
three and all against MLS teams too, that Shivas have
just struggled in a major way.

Speaker 5 (13:21):
It's a fascinating.

Speaker 6 (13:21):
Club, Like they only play with Mexican players, so in
many way, they're restricted on who they can bring in.
It's the same with Athletic Club to BUILDEAU over in Spain,
they only play with players from the Basque region and
such rich culture and history to their club, but it
puts them at a little bit of a competitive disadvantage
when Cincinnati can go and bring in a guy like
a band there for example. But Shivas, I'm not quite

(13:43):
sure yet to figure it out with them, because they
bring the fans, they put out their stars, and they've
underwhelmed in this tournament. But as we know in CONCAFT
champions could play. When they can play at home, they're
a different beast.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
No question about that.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
For FC Cincinnati, I would imagine Kevin and you would
expect at least some personnel changes for tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (14:03):
Yeah, because you've got to keep Charlotte in mind at
the weekend as well. At Major League Soccer play like
the games are coming thick and fast at pat Newton
right now. But I will say like I was a
little surprised Buka started from the bench last time out
against Suarez and Myles Robinson did too, and that came
out of cost. I mean, maybe there's an argument that
Cincinnati were a little bit poor us in midfield without Buca,

(14:24):
who's been absolutely brilliant, and no Whobodo still and still
no Kubo who's been out injured since May. So I
think that that, you know, midfield tandem of Anunga and
Buka is really important not to mess with. So we'll
see if he's back in for this one. But Pat
Newnan has said today that this is a tournament they
can win. They want to win this game, they want
to advance to the next stage. And wouldn't it be

(14:45):
epic to see Cincinnati and Tiquel potentially host the league's
Cup final because we saw Columbus win it last year
and what it meant to them, And I know Cincinnati
would certainly be a great place for the final.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Yeah, I think it would be awesome.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
And if it could occur in the context Kevin of
you know, them winning the Supporter Shield again or making
a deep playoff run, would just be even sweeter.

Speaker 6 (15:07):
And they're right there, you know, for anyone that's listening
in their cars right now or at home, like Cincinnati
are just one point off the Supporter Shield, you know,
leaders Philadelphia, and Supporter Shield is the crown given to
the best regular season in Major League Soccer. So for Cincinnati,
if you win the Supporter Shield, then you've got home
field advantage throughout the playoffs, which since he had a
couple of years ago as well, so it's right there.

(15:30):
For Pat Newnon's team, I think they're probably the most
complete team in MLS when you think about what they
have going forward versus and also what they have at
the back as well. You just need Kevin Denk back. Now,
it's been a while, it's been like a month or so,
so hopefully den CA's back soon.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Yeah, let's definitely hope that's the case. Tomorrow night f
C Cincinnati and Siva's League's Cup can to be paying
attention to other matches as well, all of it covered
on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Always enjoy having me, Kevin,
thanks so much.

Speaker 5 (16:00):
Yeah, cheers, Boddy.

Speaker 6 (16:01):
Great chout which has always enjoined us. It's not behind
the paywall, so head over with Apple TV if anyone's
interested tonight and check us out. We're on air this
evening at six thirty pm Eastern for countdown.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
No question about that awesome stuff. Kevin, Thank you, cheers, Mo,
thank you, you got it. FC Cincinnati tomorrow night versus Chivas.
By the way, the match radio coverage on Fox Sports
thirteen sixty due to Bengals coverage here on ESPN fifteen thirty.
All right, let me update you on what's going down
in New York. Juan Soto hit a one out solo

(16:31):
homer off Gavin Williams to break up the no hitter.
It didn't I didn't realize this. The Cleveland franchise hasn't
had a no hitter thrown for them in forty four
years Len Barker in nineteen eighty one. That's staggering.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (16:49):
The Guardians still lead the game for to one. Cleveland's
making a pitching change. New York three up on Cincinnati
and the hunt for the last wildcard spot tied with
the Sandy Diego Padres. Meanwhile, Reds and Cubs right now,
Andrew Abbott is throwing well. They have played five innings.
Chicago does have a one nothing lead on Cincinnati on
Getaway Day five point three seven four nine, fifteen thirty. Ah,

(17:13):
we've got the Bengals coming up. But Tony Pike is
going to talk about tomorrow night's preseason game with us.
There's some the opportunities out there for narratives to change
for Bengals players tomorrow. We've talked about how Shamar Stewart
has done this. Miles Murphy can start to do this too. Now,
a good showing in a preseason game isn't gonna make

(17:34):
anybody change their mind. If you think Miles Murphy is
a bust and has no chance of helping the Bengals
improve their pass rush this year, I don't know that
he's going to change her mind tomorrow night. If you
think that Jermaine Burton was a bad draft pick and
he's a guy that's just never gonna get it and
never gonna be able to help this team out at
wide receiver, I don't know that one good performance in

(17:57):
a preseason game is going to change her mind. What
you could hope, though, if you care at all about
the team, is that those players can slowly start to
change the discussion around them and maybe make you feel
like those players can help. Let's be honest, man, especially
with Miles Murphy. Like Joseph Osai had a nice season

(18:17):
last year, and Shamar Stewart's had a good camp so far,
does the pass russ have a chance of getting that
much better? If Miles Murphy doesn't have a better third
season in the NFL and does it do anybody any
good to have the team's first round pick from two
years ago turn out to be a bust? And we
will hand that label to him at the end of
the season. If he continues to not produce, maybe the

(18:39):
narrative can change a little bit. Starting tomorrow, pregame coverage
on ESPN fifteen to thirty begins at seven I'm sorry
at three, and kickoff will be at seven thirty.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
Let's see, let's do this.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
We've got tickets to go see the Reds and Phillies
next Wednesday, and after the game is a postgame concert
by Train. Now we play stupid trivia, and what we
have often done throughout the summer is when we do this,
we do it Reds related and we you know, tie
them into the team that they're playing or that sort
of thing. So like yesterday we did we test your

(19:13):
knowledge of the shared history of the Reds and Cubs.
And then because the Reds play the Phillies and the
game where Train is playing afterward, we did one where
we test our working knowledge of the history between the
Reds and the Phillies. Let's do this Bengals Eagles tomorrow.
I only have three questions, largely because I ran out
of time. But if you want to win tickets to

(19:36):
the game next Wednesday and the postgame concert train, uh,
we need contestants. Five point three seven four nine fifteen
thirty five one three seven four nine fifteen thirty will
test your knowledge of the shared history of the Bengals
and the Eagles. Next on ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 7 (19:56):
Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
Traffic from the UC Health Traffic Center.

Speaker 8 (20:02):
Nearly sixty percent of Americans waiting on an organ transplant
are from multicultural communities. I have the gift of life.
Become an organ donor or explore living donation at UCHealth

is an accident. This is after Cincinnati Dayton Road. Traffic
is stop and go southbound seventy five from Ezer Charles

(20:25):

to five minute delay. I'm at Ezelic with.

Speaker 4 (20:31):
Traffic play home of lifetime power train protection and guarantee
credit approval from their family to yours for life. Kelseyshev
dot com Reds batting top six, trailing the Cubs won
nothing Andrew Abbott five strong. So far, both teams have
flashed the leather, as they say. In this game, Cincinnati
looking for a sweep trail to Mets and Padres by

(20:51):
three each in the race for the last wildcard spot.
At last look the Guardian, that game has gone final
in New York, Cleveland beats the Mets by a score
of four to one. So as things stand at the moment,
Cincinnati trails New York by two and a half and
the Padres by three. San Diego plays later tonight. Let's

(21:17):
see against Arizona. I think that's all I got for
local sports. Setlites. Let's give away some tickets. Let's try
to give away some tickets at least best of three.
We'll do best of three. We'll test your knowledge of
Bengals Eagles, and if you win, especially if your name
is Eric, because he's going to be our contestant, get
tickets to go to Red's Phillies next Wednesday, which will
feature a postgame concert by Train. Eric, you are my contestant, correct, Yes,

(21:43):
you sound excited? Are you a I guess you're a
Reds and a Bengals fan. I would imagine.

Speaker 3 (21:49):
Absolutely, all boy, all right, I got three.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
I usually we do best of five. I was under
a time crunch today, so I came up with three.
I need you to get two of these three very
easy questions correct. They are related to the shared history
between the Bengals and Eagles. Are you excited?

Speaker 5 (22:08):
I am.

Speaker 9 (22:08):
Let's go.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
All right, here we.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
Go question number one, Eric, Here we go. Thank you, Tarren.
This man was drafted by the Bengals in twenty seventeen.
He is now the second all time leading scorer in
Eagles history. A.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
David Acres, B. Randy Bullock, C.

Speaker 4 (22:23):
Jake Elliott, Jake Elliott, Jake Elliot. Arren told you these
were easy layups. These are harder to come up with
in football than in baseball. Very good, Gotta get one more.
Told you were making it easy for you. The Bengals
and Eagles twice in their history have played to a tie.
One was a thirteen to thirteen thriller in two thousand

(22:45):
and eight. Who was Cincinnati's quarterback that day? Was it
Carson Palmer? A b Ryan Fitzpatrick or C. John Kittna.

Speaker 9 (22:55):
Two thousand and eight Carson Palmer.

Speaker 4 (22:58):
The Carson Palmer, Ryan Fitzpatrick. It would have been your
starting quarterback. Palmer got injured I think Game four, Game
five that season. Ryan Fitzpatrick took over and led the
Bengals to a thirteen thirteen tie against Philadelphia. That is okay,
this is question number three, Eric, Are you ready?

Speaker 5 (23:17):
I'm ready.

Speaker 4 (23:18):
This man is the only member of the Pro Football
Hall of Fame to play for both the Eagles and
the Bengals. A. Tara Owans, B. Clyde Simmons, C. Bill Bergen.

Speaker 5 (23:30):
Let's can you repeat him? A.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
Tara Owans, B. Clyde Simmons, C. Bill Bergen.

Speaker 5 (23:41):
I'm gonna go with C.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
You said B or C. I see it's you got
see Bill Bergen can against see Bill Bergie tarn Well,
you know what, Eric, guess what I'm gonna do because
our second contestant hung up.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
I'm gonna give you the tickets anyway. Hang tight, Okay, awesome,
thank you so much, very welcome.

Speaker 4 (24:06):
See that's what happens here. Snoozh Lou's other guy hung up,
Eric Winson tickets correct answer was ay correct? Correct dancer
was hey Taralloones. Tara Loans played obviously for the Eagles,
for a number of years, including with a broken leg
in the Super Bowl after the two thousand and four season,
and spent the twenty ten season in Bengals stripes. Bengals
did not make the Super Bowl that year. Saya Suzuki

(24:27):
has just taken Andrew Abbott deep, and the Cubs now
lead that ballgame in Chicago by a score.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
Of two two nothing.

Speaker 5 (24:35):
All right.

when not only are the Bengals not practicing, they're not
even in town in Philly getting set to take on
the Eagles tomorrow night, preseason opener. Tony is with us
to talk about what we're looking for tomorrow night. Hi, Tony,
Hello mo. One of the major areas of concern or

(25:57):
focus for a lot of folks this year is going
to be the second because Al Golden has to remake
the defense with a whole lot of dudes who were
here last year, including pretty much everybody in the secondary. Now,
obviously there's going to be a lot of guys in
that unit who don't play Tomorrow Camp. Taylor, Britt Dax Hill,
et cetera. What though, can we learn about the secondary
in preseason game number one?

Speaker 10 (26:20):
Well, you know, such a major component that was missing
last year in lou Ana Ruas defense was communication. They
just seemed at times to not communicate where they need
to be. They also at times were out of position
and they just played hesitant. Ginostone didn't really play like
himself till the end of the year. They have a
lot of youth back there in the secondary. Everything we've

(26:42):
heart up to this point has been about simplifying clear communication,
playing fast, and being aggressive, and we've seen that throughout
training camp. We've seen and I think you hit it
with Paul Danner Junior yesterday. The level of plays not
the same, but you and I watched Kobe and Soft
Gardner and Brian Cooke play at the University of Cincinnati,

(27:03):
and they carried themselves with a confidence that exuded when
you watch them and listen to them on a practice
field or on a game field. It's a little bit
like we've heard from the secondary here. But to me,
it's about lining up. It's about making sure you're playing
your responsibility. It's not having blown coverages, and when you

(27:23):
have an opportunity to make a play, go make a
play on the.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
Ball, no question about that.

Speaker 4 (27:28):
I'm also he's not in the secondary, obviously, but you know,
it felt like one Shamar Stewart showed up for training camp.
We started talking a lot about him, and for good reason,
it kind of shoved Demetrius Knight a little bit to
the background, which was also kind of a theme of
Mini camp and OTAs because of all the time focused
on Schamar. Yet Demetrius Night, by all accounts, has been
terrific and I can't wait to see what that looks

(27:50):
like tomorrow night in Philadelphia.

Speaker 10 (27:53):
I'm most excited because you heard Zach Taylor talk about
Demetrius Knight in a way where he almost goes over
board at practice sometimes meaning playing after the whistle, playing
borderline of hitting or tackling when you're not supposed to be.
And Zach Taylor even said, I will take a guy
that airs on or that has a problem on that side,
then someone who's too timid or stops before the whistle,

(28:16):
so they've essentially had to pull the reins back on
Demetrius Night. Tomorrow night, you get to take that off.
You get to go play at full speed, you get
to go hit somebody, and with that you get an
opportunity to maybe make some plays in space, because up
to this point, if you're a running backer in the
flats and you run by him and just kind of
tag off then that's assuming you're making a tackle. Well,

(28:38):
now you have to actually bring that player to the ground.
And by all accounts, he's playing fast, he's physical, he
pushes the issue. I'd like to see him do that
against the Eagles tomorrow night as well.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
You know, and we talk so much about well, you know,
Al Golden's defense emphasizes linebacker and it puts a huge
onus on Logan Wilson and to meet and all of
that is true, right, but they also have other linebackers.
Aaron Burks is going to be on the field tomorrow
night against his former team. And it's not like they

(29:08):
drafted just one linebacker either. They've got a kid from
Clemson who it feels like, all right, you know, he
is basically going to be a special teams contributor. But
you're always looking for depth. I'm interested in Barret Carter
as well.

Speaker 10 (29:21):
Yeah, Barrett Carter has been one of those guys we
haven't talked a bunch about who is going to get
opportunities tomorrow night. So see how he plays when the
lights are on. It's odd the only time we talked
about Aaron BURKSMO was the day where Logan Wilson got
a VET day, and I thought Aran Burks was all
over the field. I thought he performed really well that
day in coverage, in team drills. It was a day
we thought the defense had beat the offense, and we

(29:43):
made a big point because they did it without Logan Wilson.
So look when he got the opportunity with the Eagles
last year in the playoffs, he was fantastic. He's going
to get an opportunity tomorrow night with the Bengals. Maybe
he can carve himself out an even bigger role for
the Bengals by performing at a high level against the
Eagles tomorrow night.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
Looking forward to finding out, Tony, thanks so much. Tony
joins us again coming up at four forty five. He
joins us all throughout training camp on the Ray Saint
Clair Roofing Hotline. Bengals and Eagles Tomorrow night kickoff at
seven thirty. Pregame starts at three o'clock with pregame Sports

free will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, starting at ten
o'clock as the Bengals go through practice, and yesterday we
had one of these. The Bengals practices this weekend are
going to be open to season ticket holders and club
members on Saturday and Sunday, and then that's it. That's

(30:44):
it in terms of outsider access. So you're not going
to be able to be there, but we can be
there for you. Starting at ten o'clock eight e Dorn Window,
Tony and Moe Training Camp Show. Thanks to our sponsors
Oakley Greens as well as TOF five one three five
one three TPH. We broadcast from the Airport Paint and
Body broadcast area. So we have that to talk about.

(31:06):
Let's discuss some players who have a chance to change
some narratives about them beginning tomorrow. I'll let you know
the Reds did not score on the top of the
seventh inning. They trailed the Cubs to nothing on getaway Day.
We've got some time between now and the top of
the hour. Our buddy Mike is standing by.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
Mike. Go ahead, you're on ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 9 (31:27):
Okay, I'll take the field, you take the Reds one
hundred bucks that the Reds don't make the playoffs, well.

Speaker 4 (31:33):
I don't bet with I don't bet with people that
I never see in person.

Speaker 5 (31:37):
Like.

Speaker 9 (31:40):
Okay, chicken, Chicken.

Speaker 5 (31:46):
Hey.

Speaker 9 (31:46):
One thing for sure, Miles Murphy's going to get a
real good test tomorrow because he's not going to play
against that Eagle. Starting five on the line, but they're
depths is terrific, I mean terrific. So that'll be a
real good taste for mister Murphy to see what he

(32:06):
can do.

Speaker 4 (32:07):
I don't know that there's I don't know that there's
a player who I'm more interested in at the start
of the season. Like I'll give Schamar Stewart some time,
I'm not going to give him a ton of time
because we don't do that with first round picks anymore.
And I will assume that whenever Trey Hendrickson returns, he's
productive from the get go. And I like what I
saw late in the season from Joseph Osai. The guy

(32:28):
who has the most approved up front on the d line,
whether we're talking interior players or dudes on the outside,
is Miles Murphy. He did nothing last year. So the
first round pick two years ago, your first round pick
two years ago is supposed to be an established player,
by year three, he is not. I don't know that
there are many players, might not be any on the

(32:49):
defensive side of the ball, who have more to prove
than Miles Murphy.

Speaker 9 (32:53):
What is your feeling, I don't have a feeling for Jenkins? Well,
what's your feeling for Jenkins?

Speaker 4 (32:59):
I think everybody really likes In fact, there's a good
write up on him by Ben Solik at ESPN today
that I read shortly before I went on the air.
I get the sense, you know, that the Bengals were
okay with what they saw from him in year one.
He's one of a handful of guys who, at least
against the run, has to help out this year. I'm
not sure they're necessarily relying on him to apply a

(33:21):
ton of pressure to the quarterback up the middle. But look,
they took him in the second round for a reason, man, right,
That's that's a premium pick. I think they were encouraged
by a lot of what they saw from him in
the first season.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
They need to see more in near two.

Speaker 9 (33:35):
Yeah, and I know he's, you know, a good stock
out of Michigan. And when I've already been interviewed, he's
really intelligent and you know, that. Yes, it's not like
he's going to have any difficulty picking up play the
playbook and memorizing it.

Speaker 4 (33:49):
Good stock from Michigan and also good stock genetically because
his dad played for years in the NFL played well.

Speaker 9 (33:54):
Yeah, So that's all I have for you, though, I
just wanted to see your thoughts on him. That's all
I got for.

Speaker 4 (34:01):
It's right now, two nothing cubs in the bottom of
the second inning, and actually Dan Dansby Swanson has just
taken Andrew Abbott deep as we speak, so it's now
free zip.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
It's not going well, Mike.

Speaker 9 (34:15):
No, but at least Abbott only gives up solo home
runs and that's you. If you're gonna give him up,
that's what you want to do. Yeah, but you know,
you knew that it's pretty hard to go in there
and beat them free straight. But I thought they had
a good chance today with Abbott and this this was
that a rookie that started for them today.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
I don't believe he's a rookie known.

Speaker 9 (34:36):
He's pretty young though, I think he's not well known.
I know that Kate Horton, a second year.

Speaker 3 (34:44):
Made me.

Speaker 4 (34:44):
You know what, Actually, I'm sorry, Mike, you are exactly right.
He is a rookie this year. My apologies.

Speaker 9 (34:50):
Yeah, that's fine, Okay, I just lave so evidently, but
you know, the rookie pitchers tend to have an advantage
at first time around.

Speaker 4 (34:56):
So look, on a grand ski you're right about that, Mike,
thank you. On a grand scheme. You take two out
of three in every series, you have to be happy.
Now Tomorrow night they're gonna face Paul Skans. Now, Paul
Skeens has pitched in a ton of games that his
team has lost because the Pirates are one of the
worst offensive clubs in the sport, and across a lot

(35:17):
of metrics, the worst offensive club in the sport. That said,
you win the first two and you have your ace pitching,
and Andrew Abbott has pitched credibly today, And that might
be putting it mildly, but I think a lot of
us woke up this morning thinking, Okay, you got those
first two, you got Skeens pitching against you tomorrow, go

(35:38):
get this one, and then if Skeens beat you in
Game one in Pittsburgh, you've at least put that behind
you and you can go win the next three against
the Pirates. If this score holds and three. Nothing is
far from insurmountable. They'll miss out on a chance to
gain the game on the Mets and put themselves at

(36:00):
the mercy of the Diamondbacks and Padres and subject themselves
to the possibility of losing an entire game to San
Diego tonight.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
We will see.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
Look the what they did at the deadline was they
leaned into starting pitching depth, making the bullpen a little
bit better by extension. Obviously, the Nicolodolo injury has undercut
that a little bit, getting better on defense with key
Bryan Hayes, and then adding a guy who can mostly
help them against mainly left handed pitchers, Miguel Andahar. You know,

(36:30):
it's been talked about. I caught like half radio and
half TV last night and Chris Welsh talked about this,
and Jeff Brantley also talked about this, that if the
Reds are gonna do this, and I'll be the first
to acknowledge the odds are not in their favor. First
of all, they have to overcome a deficit. Secondly, you know,
they've kind of been at that eighty three to eighty

(36:52):
four win pace for most of the season.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
But if they're going to do this.

Speaker 4 (36:56):
It's going to happen on the shoulders of really good
starting pitching, quality bullpen work, and very good defense. And
this series in Chicago, that's been the formula. They're not
a team that's gonna hit a bunch of home runs.
Steer obviously hit a big one last night. They're not
a team that's gonna win a whole lot of games

(37:16):
nine to eight. That's not how it's gonna work. They're
leaning into defense, they're leaning into starting pitching, they're leaning
into their bullpen. A lot of that has worked this series.
They've won two games in Chicago because the relief corps
has been good. Last night, Zach Lttel was awesome in
his first Red start, and they've pretty much made every
play in the field. But the question remains. It's, you know,

(37:39):
for as much as things have changed and for as
much ball as they've played, we're wondering on August sixth,
the same thing we were wondering on March sixth, Are
they going to hit enough.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
Today?

Speaker 4 (37:52):
The answer is no, they haven't hit at all. Are
they going to hit enough to get to eighty seven,
eighty eight, eighty nine wins and make the postseason? Two
big players on the field tomorrow to be paying attention to,
and our guy Chad Rendle coming up at four to
twenty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. It's kind

(38:15):
of got people paying attention again, and then we know
what happened. Right in twenty eighteen, they're pretty good. Twenty nineteen,
they're good. Twenty twenty, there were really good. In twenty
twenty one, they were really, really, really good. Now college
football has changed. That day at the Rose Bowl against UCLA,
one of the reasons to be excited about UC football
was there were a whole lot of guys freshmen, red shirt, freshman,

(38:37):
sophomores who got a lot of playing time and contributed
to that win. And you were watching that game going,
oh boy, there's some real legit building blocks for the
future here. But more than anything, I remember how it
made people per cup. This year, Week one, Cincinnati plays Nebraska.
Let's be honest, even if you love YOU'FC football as
much as I do, there's not a lot of buzz.

(39:01):
I said this to Tony because it's true. I legitimately
don't know anybody who's going to Kansas City for this game.
Maybe maybe a lot of UC folks are gonna be
there and we're not gonna be able to tell because
they wear red and Nebraska wears red. But this fan
base needs energized. I don't know that this coaching staff

(39:22):
and the way the program is aligned right now. I
don't know that it or they can wait for October
to do something that energizes the fan base. Want to
make people perk up, Want to sell some tickets for
your actual home games. Go to Kansas City. It's a
neutral site that will not feel like one. It will
feel like a Nebraska home game. Go there and win.

(39:47):
This Nebraska team this year feels like it's going to
be dramatically better than that UCLA team that you see
beat in twenty nine or twenty eighteen. Some have talked
about Nebraska being a sleeper college football player team. We'll
see Matt rule year three has a tremendous amount of
college success and by then having programs turned around. Dylan

(40:09):
Rayola certainly looks the part, and not just if Patrick
Mahomes want to be, but high end Big ten caliber quarterback.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
It's a name brand. Who knows how good they're going
to be.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
But it's a chance for Scott Sanderfield, maybe his last
one to get people to perk up and get people
to start talking about UC football again and get people
to stop talking about what may happen at the end
of the season. If you see is on the outside
looking into the bull picture again. So I you know,

(40:41):
must win week one, especially in this day and age,
maybe that doesn't apply, but like want to change the
conversation about UC football. Go to a neutral site and
beat a Big ten team that has a name brand.

Speaker 3 (40:56):
We'll see. I'm hopeful it happens right now.

Speaker 4 (41:00):
Well, the books that have college football lines out, not
all of them do have UC as a six and
a half point dog. Say, man like, it is an opportunity.
I think it'd be a lot of fun. That game's
on a Thursday night. I haven't taken a phone call
about UC football in a year. I would imagine that'll

(41:21):
change the day after that Friday after if they go
to Kansas City and beat Nebraska. This is a huge
opportunity for UC football and there aren't going to be
many like it this season, So we'll see. It's an
opportunity tomorrow. And by the way, Cubs get another run
in the seventh inning, Reds are come to the plate
in the top of the eighth and it's a four

(41:45):
to nothing game in favor of Chicago. Reds have just
two hits today. It's an opportunity tomorrow for the Bengals.
Like we've said this about Jermaine Burton, it's got to
start somewhere, right. We said this about Jermaine Burton. You
know last year it was if it could go poorly,
it did on and off the field, most of it

(42:05):
his own doing. Couldn't come to work by all accounts,
was falling asleep in meetings, just no accountability, had some
off field issues. And so the narrative right now about
Jermaine Burton is Bengals got it wrong, didn't do their homework,
ignored red flags, got it wrong. They obviously haven't cut him.

(42:29):
So it had to start somewhere, right, The turnaround had
to start somewhere. So it could start by coming to
work on time, coming to work on time every single day,
not falling asleep in meetings, acting like a professional, acting
like an adult, and all.

Speaker 3 (42:47):
That is well and good.

Speaker 4 (42:48):
And it's something that Joe Burrow has talked about most notably,
and Zach Taylor has talked a little bit about Jermaine Burton,
but it's got to start somewhere. None of it guarantees
that Jermaine is going to go on to have a
great NFL career, even a merely decent NFL career. The
next step is in practice, look like you know what

(43:09):
you're doing. I've been to six of those practices now,
and I've said a couple of times into this microphone
that if you knew nothing about Jermaine Burton, didn't know
anything about his backstory, didn't know how his rookie season unfolded,
knew nothing about everything that dog Jermaine Burton last year,
and you just watched him in practice, you would go,

(43:30):
that's a real good NFL wide receiver. In practice, he
has looked the part. Maybe hasn't been flawless. We talked
the other day, we watched him muff a punt. The
next step is in a preseason game, when there's a
lot of focus on him, to show tangible proof that
this is a guy that the Bengals can count on
move forward with and is gonna build Joe Burrows trust.

(43:54):
Like last year, Jermaine Burton in the first preseason game
made a whole bunch of really nice catches. I think
he scored a touchdown. Did it in the fourth quarter
against dudes who did not make the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
On Monday, we talked less about what Jermaine Burton did
and more about when he played and what was talked
about when he got into the game.

Speaker 3 (44:13):
This guy is.

Speaker 4 (44:14):
Running against dudes who aren't going to play in the
NFL because of the issue with you know, meetings and
paying attention and studying his playbook and all that stuff.
So a year later, and by the way, that night
kind of foreshadowed how the season was going to unfold
for him. The next step is do it in a game.
Maybe it happens on special teams. He'll be given opportunities,

(44:35):
maybe it happens with him lining up at wide receiver.
I would imagine he is going to be given opportunities.
Maybe it's with Joe Burrow on the field, Maybe it's
with Jake Browning on the field. Maybe it's with one
of the other two guys on the field. But among
the many, many things I'm interested in tomorrow night is
can Jermaine Burton start to change the conversation and provide
tangible proof that actually the guy who was a walking

(44:59):
scre grew up last year, is the exact opposite this season.
And he's not only a guy that you can keep
on the team and put in the game, he's a
guy that Joe Burrow can trust. Like these things sound hokey.
And if he has, you know, three catches for forty
yards tomorrow, I don't think anybody is going to start, like,
you know, using black magic marker to jot down what

(45:21):
his numbers are going to look like this year, any
catches or something like that. But if the Jermaine Burton
reclamation had to start somewhere, and it did start somewhere,
and then it had to continue, and it did continue,
starting in the in the off season, continuing in training camp.
The next step and the most tangible proof yet that

(45:43):
things are different for this guy is going to be
on the field tomorrow night in Philadelphia. And I don't
know how you're not rooting for him. If you're a
Bengals fan, you're rooting for him. If you're a human being,
I think you're rooting for him. And I'm both so like,
you know, I don't know how much we need to
see Jamar Jason T. Higgins and do need to see

(46:04):
Jermaine burt And by the way, like at that position,
you know, Mike Kasicki is the de facto three. Andre Yoshavas,
we kind of know what he is. Charlie Jones, we
kind of know what he is. And there's a whole
bunch of dudes beneath those guys that you know are
where they are for a reason. The wild card, maybe
for the entire offense, is Jermaine Burton. When he gets

(46:25):
an opportunity tomorrow, does he take advantage and do we
start to talk about him just a little bit more
in terms that don't reference his issues last year. Five
point three, seven, four nine, fifteen thirty is our phone number.
Our guests come to us on the race and Claire
roofing hotline. A really nice play by Dansby Swanson to

(46:46):

top half of the eighth inning, Reds are getting shut out.
Cubs up four nothing, Chicago batting in the bottom of
the eighth. Uh, what have we learned about the Bearcats?
A week and a half or so in the fall camp,
our guy Chad Rendel joins us.

Speaker 7 (47:00):

Speaker 3 (47:55):
But because he's going to be here and I won't have.

Speaker 4 (47:58):
A chance to talk with him, I wanted to talk
some UC football with him.

Speaker 3 (48:02):
So here he is. Hi, Chad, Hey, how are you?
I'm doing really well? What's up?

Speaker 5 (48:09):
Oh? I was just before Karen called. I was listening
to Rich rod say, the only reason that West Virginia
has had any injuries is because they have too many trainers,
and if they didn't have any trainers, they would have
less injuries.

Speaker 4 (48:22):
Is this kind of like we we have too many
COVID positives because there are too many people testing for COVID.

Speaker 5 (48:31):
Yes, it's exactly, that's exactly what I Yeah. Yeah, if
we didn't you know, if they didn't have anybody to
go to, we probably wouldn't have any injuries. But there's
thirty trainers at West Virginia and that's why so many
guys are getting hurt at camp.

Speaker 4 (48:45):
So, Rich Rodriguez two point zero in Morgantown, that era
is off to a great start.

Speaker 5 (48:49):
It's going swimmingly well.

Speaker 3 (48:51):
Sounds like.

Speaker 4 (48:53):
What have we what have we learned about the Bearcats
through a week and a half or so of fall camp.

Speaker 5 (49:01):
I'm excited about one thing, Mo, and that is that
camp has stoked pretty even. Looks like there's been plenty
of good moments for the offense, but also plenty of
good moments for the defense. So for me, I've been
doing this and this is my nineteenth season on the

(49:21):
Bearcats beat, I feel a lot better about camp when
one side is not kicking the other side but all
over the place, unless you have like a top five unit.
Right when that defense was top five, you walked in
going to your offense. Probably, I have a rough time
today throwing the ball on Sauce and Kobe and Brian Cook.

(49:43):
But I feel like, you know, it's been a it's
been a boxing match. We're halfway through essentially today, halfway
through camp. I feel like the scorecard is tied after
you know, six rounds. I think that's a good thing.

Speaker 3 (49:58):
Yeah, I would, I would agree with that.

Speaker 4 (50:02):
I think the biggest question that a lot of his
head defensively was what are these guys going to do
in the secondary? And I think for some like who
are these guys specifically that unit?

Speaker 3 (50:12):
What have we learned?

Speaker 5 (50:14):
I think Matthew mcgoom has a chance to be really,
really good as advertised. I think he's had a really
strong camp. I feel better about Cornerback two with Logan
Wilson than I have since you know, I don't think
Logan Wilson's going to win the Thorpe Award, but I
feel really good about Cornerback two for the first time

(50:35):
since Kobe was here, Like that it's felt like cornerback
one has been not great but solid here, but the
second guy has gotten picked on and kind of abused
a lot. That hasn't been the case this camp and
safety is going to be interesting because I don't know.
I don't have a great feel yet for how it's

(50:56):
going to shake out because there's six or seven dames.
I mean, we talked about this on the Nightcap on
the Bearcat Journal YouTube the other night, like they keep
bringing in guys to pass up Antoine Peak, and anton
Peak just keeps making plays like that. You know, they've
risen the level of competition, and he had stepped up

(51:19):
to that level every time they presented a challenge. So
I'm excited about the safety position. I'm just not sure
how it's gonna shake out yet.

Speaker 4 (51:28):
Compare Brendan sorosby this time a year ago to the
guy you're watching now.

Speaker 5 (51:34):
Much more confident, much more in control of running the offense,
and I'm sure some of that has to do it.
It certainly appears he has a much better wide receiver
room than he did a year ago. But he's acting
like a guy that you can always tell when they

(51:54):
switched to being a bit more comfortable in front of
the microphone, you know, a bit more like open and
not robotic when they're answering questions from the media that
you can tell that they they feel a lot better,
a lot more settled in the situation. And you know

(52:16):
he is He's hit a couple of days that maybe
weren't outstanding, but he's also had a couple of days
where you're like, man, he is cooking. Now. To be fair,
you could look at that and say that was the
problem last year, as there was days that it felt
like he was cooking, and then there was days that
it felt like he was still running the Indiana playbook,
but nobody had Cincinnati knew it.

Speaker 4 (52:41):
That's that's very well put. Every time I read a
dispatch or hear something from whether it was higher ground
or now back on campus, the name Jeff Caldwell pops up.
I see Bruce Feldman's luster freaks in the athletic Uh.
You know, should I should I be jaded because he's
he's coming from a D two school, or should I

(53:02):
be excited at this guy could be like a I
don't know, all league caliber wide believer.

Speaker 5 (53:08):
He looks different in that Here's the thing I think that.
You know, not a lot of people know about Jeff
Caldwell from what he told us. He was like five
to nine going into a senior year of high school
and then had a Grosburg, But that grosberg, you know,
he didn't have it on tape playing football. His brother

(53:29):
went to Lindenwood, So Caldwell went to Lindenwood with his
brother to experience college football. His brother was a year
or two older than him, and in that process, all
of a sudden, now he's six four and a half
and you know, looks like an NFL wide receiver while
he was there. So it's you know, it wasn't like

(53:50):
he was this profile athletic profile when he was high
school in high school and got passed over. He's like
an entirely different person now he was when he was
a senior in high school. So I think that explained
some of it. And he stayed until his brother graduated.
He stayed loyal to his brother and stayed there and

(54:11):
put up great numbers at the FCF level, and it
so far has translated. The one thing I've been impressed
with most with him, oh is it's not been like
one or two routes you know, it hasn't just been
he's tall and fast, so we're just running among go routes,
just seeing him make a lot of catches over the middle.

(54:32):
You know, he's running drag routes. He's doing some stuff
underneath the defense and making plays. He caught a slant
from Soresby today that he took like forty fifty yards.
So that's the thing that's impressed me the most about him,
because a lot of times like that, a guy with
that freakish nature that's coming up a level is kind
of a one trick pony, and so far he hasn't

(54:54):
been that. And then you put Cyrus Allen on the
other side of him, and all of a sudden, you know,
it feels like you've got two explosive options at wide
receiver that you know hasn't happened here for a couple
of years.

Speaker 4 (55:09):
Every time I've talked to you throughout the offseason, I've
asked about, like, how this is gonna work on special
teams with a special teams coach that got hired after
spring camp. They they obviously have to be much better
in that regard. They were disaster toward the end of
last year. What has fall Camp told us about those units.

Speaker 5 (55:28):
They're spending a lot of time on it. We talked
to Jeff Luke Pasco yesterday and I'm impressed with what
I've seen from them so far. Does it you know
it's he a special Teams savant like Brian Mason was.
I guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks.
But it seems more organized, it seems more detailed, and

(55:51):
it doesn't hurt that. Uh. I think they're gonna have
a top five hunter in the country. Max Fletcher is unbelievable,
Like I think he was physically trying to put a
hole in the roof of the indoor practice facility yesterday
and that roof is pretty high, and I asked him
about it today and he kind of was mad at

(56:13):
the roof. He was like, man, a couple of those
balls were sixty yard kicks, but they hit the roof,
so I didn't get to see him go sixty yards.
So I'm just going to keep trying to put a
hole in it. And I'm like, okay. And Stephen Rustick
has been really good place kicking. The second day of
Higher Ground, he pushed two balls just right, and I

(56:35):
think I've seen him miss one kick in the six
practices since, so he didn't miss last year. He was
perfect on few ball attempts, perfect on extra points. He
made one. I think the longest I've seen him go
is fifty three. Now, if it was fifty four, it
probably wasn't good. But he did get it in from

(56:55):
fifty three. But just that alone, and then whatever they do,
they have to be better than they were at the
end of the season on punt and kickoff return because
that stuff can't happen. I mean, I think we talked
about this. Everybody talked about, Oh, Mason Fletcher made a
huge hit in the West Virginia game. Sure, forty yards

(57:18):
down field. The HiT's great, But they returned the punt
forty yards. Yeah, that happened way too often where teams
were just eating up chunks of yards in the return
game and Cincinnati was getting nothing in the return game.

Speaker 4 (57:37):
You're exactly right about that, all right, man, Thank you
as always.

Speaker 3 (57:41):
Well, we'll be listening tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (57:43):
Thanks very much, all right, appreciate it. You enjoy a
couple of days off.

Speaker 4 (57:47):

Rata Malliet. That's the second time I've done that. Trying
to mount a route, trying to mount a rally. They're

(59:02):
trying to score six runs at least in the top
of the ninth inning. Why don't I talk like a
normal person. No, normal person says, well, they're trying to
mount a rally. No, they're trying to tie the game.
But now they just scored a run, but they run
came at the expense of an out. At six to one,
Cubs top nine. Cincinnati is on the verge of not

(59:22):
sweeping the Cubs and instead taking just two out of three.
It's been a rough go for the offense. They take
on Paul Skeins tomorrow. Matt's loss earlier today to the
Guardians for to one. Gavin Williams took a no hitter
into the ninth inning, broken up on a Jan Soto homer.
Cincinnati trails New York by two and a half. The
Padres lead the Reds by three games. San Diego has

(59:44):
the Diamondbacks in Arizona later tonight. Bengals in route to
Philadelphia today. They take on the Eagles tomorrow in the
first preseason game. It'll air on ESPN fifteen thirty, with
pregame covers beginning at three and kickoff at seven thirty.
CE Cincinnati has traded forward Corey Bair to San Diego

(01:00:06):
five general allocation money, as well as fifty thousand dollars
in conditional general allocation money. FC Cincinnati plays in the
League's Cup tomorrow against Shivas on Fox Sports thirteen sixty.
There's also this, I think is a general rule, monopolies

(01:00:28):
aren't great.

Speaker 3 (01:00:32):
ESPN is.

Speaker 4 (01:00:36):
About to take over NFL Network and the NFL Red
Zone Channel, and the NFL is going to buy ten
percent equity of ESPN. What do you think that's going
to mean for a journalist at ESPN who could be
working on a story that the NFL might not exactly
be happy about. What do you think that's going to

(01:00:59):
mean for a journalist to is put together a story
that might upset an owner of an NFL franchise. You
tell me, five point three, seven, four nine, fifteen thirty
is our phone number. Our guy Josh Need's gonna spend
some time with us in studio. The ballgame has just
gone final. Gavin Luck strikes out, looking to end at
six to one. The final score Cubs beat the Reds.

(01:01:20):
Cincinnati won the first two games of the series. Chicago
gets the series finale. Reds are off to Pittsburgh start
a four game set with the Pirates tomorrow. Andrew Abbott
today pitched Okay, let's be honest. The story of the game, However,
this afternoon was Cad Horton and a whole host of
Chicago relievers behind him, four of them in total. Abbott

(01:01:41):
went six and two thirds, gave up a couple of homers,
struck out three, walked two, four runs, seven hits. Yas
Razueleta gave up a couple of runs in the eighth inning.
Chicago wins the ball game six to one. Reds fall
to sixty and fifty five. They remained three games behind
New York and now three and a half back of
San Diego. Go our guy Tony Pike with the latest

Speaker 7 (01:02:04):

Speaker 4 (01:02:56):
Go to the Ray Saint Clair Roofing Hotline. Tony Pike
is with US Bengals in Philadelphia. Tony is in Cincinnati.
He is still giving us training camp reports.

Speaker 3 (01:03:06):
Hi Tony, Hello mo.

Speaker 4 (01:03:10):
All right, let's talk about some guys we're going to
be watching closely tomorrow. And you know, we talked a
lot about changing narratives and you know, earning trust and
things of that nature. There is not a player on
this team who has a bigger opportunity to do just
that than Jermaine Burton tomorrow.

Speaker 10 (01:03:27):
Yeah, and you know with how things would play out, No,
Mike KASICKI, no, a fan is not going to play yet,
so not as much. Probably twelve personnel I would expect
Jamar Chase and t Higgins time in the game to
be brief. Joe Burrow wants to play more. That's going
to give opportunities Jermaine Burton. Look, everything Jermaine Burton did
last year is well documented. Also what he's done in

(01:03:49):
this offseason has been well documented and has been a
very good training camp to this point. But until you
can fully regain the trust of a quarterback, and that's
a big thing because the quarterbacks relying on you to
know where to be when you got to be there,
when you've got to adjust your route, and so much more.
You've got to do that in a game setting. And
what better opportunity with more playing time in the preseason

(01:04:12):
with Joe Burrow to give Jermaine Burton some opportunities to
be a major role in this team. He wasn't drafted
to be a back end of the roster special teams contributor.
He was drafted in the third round of wide receiver
to be a difference maker and at the time to
probably be the replacement to t Higgins. He's not going
to be that, but he can be a very very
good third wide receiver option to this team.

Speaker 4 (01:04:33):
Tell you who I can't wait to watch tomorrow is
my guy, Taj Brooks. Look, we all know what the
pecking order is at running back. We know what Chase
Brown can do. We obviously still know what Samaj p
Ryan can do. When it comes to short yardage. I
want to see if Taj Brooks can make an impact
and maybe he'll get an opportunity tomorrow.

Speaker 10 (01:04:54):
I want to see him in short yardage and I
want to see him in past protection, albeit not with
Joe Burrow in the game because he's still learning from
a pass protection standpoint, but a lot of people viewed
him as the best pass protecting back in the draft.
You bring that to the table with his ability to
win in short yard situations and look, he's not going
to run away from a defense. But you had back

(01:05:14):
to back thousand yard rushing campaigns at the college level,
especially the school Texas Tech, who's viewed as a pass
heavy school. You're doing some good things and we were
able to see it firsthand when you see went there
last year. He makes the first guy miss, he always
falls forward, he gets the extra yards. He's the guy
that I was excited about when the Bengals took him
late in the draft and can't wait for his opportunity

(01:05:36):
to showcase more of what he can do on a field,
especially when this team thought enough of him to make
the move to move on from Zach Moss as well.
So you like what the running back room is, You
like the upside of TODs Brooks as well.

Speaker 4 (01:05:47):
And of course most importantly Tony And when you talk
about like camp battles and position battles, things of that nature,
the long snapper battle.

Speaker 3 (01:05:55):
We can get a glimpse into that tomorrow as well.

Speaker 10 (01:06:00):
William Wager do anything to up cal out of minus
tomorrow night and give this a legit camp paddle going forward.
But it's something that Evan mcspherson and Evan mcphers has
been great during training camp. Mo, what is the conversation
if he were to miss a kick tomorrow night? What
does that conversation look like? As that would creep back

(01:06:20):
into the minds of so many Bengles fans. The operation
needs to be clean, whether it's field goal, whether it's
extra point, whether it's punt, whoever it may be. The
margin for area is zero when it comes to a
long snapper in the NFL. So yeah, give me that
battle as well. I'm all for it.

Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
You and I are on the same page there, all right, Tony,
thanks so much. Tony is back tomorrow for since he
three to sixty. Don't forget Bengals and Eagles tomorrow night.

VOICE i can't believe as a nine year old, KID
i didn't call bs on.

Speaker 11 (01:14:55):
This, right and it made WHAT i want to do
THAT i haven't done is go back and look at

Boston it's wild what's happened in the last twenty.

Speaker 3 (01:16:11):
Years it sure.

Speaker 4 (01:16:12):
Is and it's awesome to See mark have the success
that he's had BECAUSE i literally watched you take him
from the ground and basically teach him the mechanics of
being a stand. Up not teach him how to be.
Funny he's always been, funny but teach him how to
do stand up, comedy.

Speaker 3 (01:16:27):
Yeah, First and it was always in.

Speaker 11 (01:16:29):
There and it has been neat because when he AND
i did that, podcast it was, probably you, know halfway
through the tenure of, it that he went from being
a guy who was just into comedy to a guy
who is going to try. Comedy and then you, think
just from that point where he is, now it's so.

Speaker 3 (01:16:48):
Cool it's so. Cool it's really, neat especially when they're your,
friends no.

Speaker 4 (01:16:51):
Question AND i, REMEMBER i MEAN i was watching you,
guys AND i thought to the first thought back to
the first TIME i saw him do an open mic
and how NERVOUS i.

Speaker 3 (01:16:58):
Was, MAN i don't know about. THIS i hope it works.

Speaker 4 (01:17:00):
Out and there were like four or five people before
him that just didn't have, it and Then mark got
up there and it's, like, YEAH i think there's something.

Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
Here. Yeah, yeah it was always in there for. Sure
When mark comes on the, show, though we don't talk about.

Speaker 11 (01:17:12):
You that's, okay that's, fine it's.

Speaker 3 (01:17:17):
Fine i'll bring it up In, vegas but it's, fine it's.

Speaker 4 (01:17:19):
Right so the stand up itself now it's distributed and
handled in a way that's a little bit different than
folks might be used.

Speaker 3 (01:17:27):
To.

Speaker 11 (01:17:27):
Yeah so there's a company Called. Matter they're like YouTube gurus.
There came from the music. Industry they work with Like
Whiz khalifa and a bunch of other, artists and now
they've gotten into the comedy side of things and they're
producing like Berg Chreiser's cooking show and stuff With Adam
ray as Doctor phil Kill, tony like all these big

(01:17:48):
comedy brands that are being, established and they wanted to
have a clean comedy, arm which is kind of What
i've leaned into over the last several. Years and so
so my special is the flag special of this this
website they created Called Disruptor, Comedy so if you go
To Disruptor comedy you can see my special and a

(01:18:08):
host of other. People AS i, mentioned it's also now
on On amazon and it'll be added To apple and
other streaming platforms in the coming weeks and. Months but but,
yeah it's you, Know i've never had to go try
to get people to watch it because it's always been
on a platform that you, know has a built in.
Audience so this has been really fun for, me you,

(01:18:30):
know to put these clips. OUT i put a clip
out making fun of my wife and how much she
LOVES Tj, Max and YESTERDAY Tj max contacted me and,
said we want to share this on our social media
and they. Did So it's just like that kind of
stuff doesn't happen unless you have control of your. Special
and that's the kind of stuff THAT i was hoping
would come out of this because we were the ones

(01:18:51):
that produced it instead of someone else owning.

Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
It WHEN Tj max reaches out to, you what is
what is?

Speaker 1 (01:18:56):
That?

Speaker 11 (01:18:57):
Like it just says we love this, clip we want
to share, it can We AND i was, like, absolutely
they didn't see the whole bit WHERE i refer to
FOR Tj max as forever forty. TWO i don't know
if they would have been as on, board or the
fact THAT i make fun of all the candy at

(01:19:17):
the checkout line OF Tj. Max it's like all stuff
that didn't sell at other, stores you, know siracha peeps
and sour cream and onion bubble tape and stuff like.
That but but the clip that's online is kind of.
FLATTERING i guess my wife certainly embraces, it and the
response has been.

Speaker 4 (01:19:34):
Fantastic So i'm proud to, say or maybe, Not i've
never been inside A Tj.

Speaker 11 (01:19:39):
Max, YEAH i mean that's a streak THAT i CANNOT
i was in one. Today but you're, you're you, know
doing business with. HIM i, guess, yeah we're friends, NOW.

Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
Analysis we were engaged during the.

Speaker 11 (01:21:20):
BREAK i, know, right we're on sports radio station and
we save all the sports talk for when you're at.
Commercial but we're both the. Consensus we're both excited about
The bengals. Season how could you not? BE i, know,
right there's an. APPREHENSION i get, it you, know the.
DEFENSE i, mean god, Knows i've talked about it for eight,
months but it's it's so much. Fun it's so much

(01:21:43):
fun to watch the people who scream about sports ON
tv always talking about The Cincinnati. BENGALS i, know because
that's not the environment you AND i grew up, in,
Right AND i was talking with somebody the other day
that there was like a POPULAR i guess meme or
topic on social media that was, like what is the
most embarrassing thing you've ever seen AN nfl player? Do

(01:22:05):
AND i just kept waiting, for you, know because remember
like when we were, kids like whenever there was like
a Football follies, video every play was against The, bengals
like it there was never A bengals like on the
positive side of, Those and it's, like, MAN i remember
not long ago that our LITTLE t shirt company was

(01:22:26):
only printing shirts that we're talking about how bad it was,
here and it's, like you, KNOW i would love to be,
perennial you, know playoff in baseball and football and. Soccer
but it doesn't take a long time to think back
to where this part in the, summer we've already given
up on The reds and we're talking about next year's

(01:22:46):
Opening day because we're just skipping over, football like to
be relevant right, now to be in, soccer baseball and
this excited about, football like this is fun.

Speaker 4 (01:22:57):
When you know from WHERE i, Sit i've said this
about The reds this, year two years. Ago when they're
bad and we talk, baseball we don't talk. Baseball we
don't talk about the. Games we don't talk about the,
strategies we don't talk about the makeup of the, lineup
we don't talk about possible trade. Scenarios we just we
talk about why people aren't going to the games and

(01:23:18):
how they, want you, know the.

Speaker 3 (01:23:19):
Team to be.

Speaker 4 (01:23:19):
Sold that's not, fun, Right and when we talk about
The bengals and and they're, good we discuss going forward
on fourth down and the makeup of the team and you,
know how they match up against this, Opponent which is
WHY i love.

Speaker 3 (01:23:33):
Sports that's WHY i got into.

Speaker 4 (01:23:34):
This when they're, bad it's, well let's talk about the
draft which is seven months, away and Why i'm not
going To bengals.

Speaker 3 (01:23:40):
Games.

Speaker 4 (01:23:40):
Yea so it's rejuvenating when both teams are relevant and
right now both are.

Speaker 11 (01:23:45):
Right and ALSO i like that when we are getting
excited about, something it's not our prayers are on some
like retread or huge like, project you, know like, oh
Well Terrell owens is going to come and save the.

Speaker 3 (01:24:01):
Day you.

Speaker 11 (01:24:01):
Know it's like we both teams, are you, know to
whatever degree we can be upset about how quickly it's.
Happening they have pieces that will make us relevant for
a while instead of, like let's just get this guy
and see if it fixes.

Speaker 4 (01:24:15):
Everything, yeah there's always been that in, town and recently
not so, much which is which has been a lot of.

Speaker 3 (01:24:21):
Fun yeah you have a baseball. FACILITY i. Do.

Speaker 11 (01:24:24):
Yeah, yeah me and some friends we turned this old
batting cage in Northern. Kentucky we basically gutted it and redid.
It it's called The fieldhouse and it's three pitching, machines
all with hit. Tracks they can throw, baseball fast, pitch,
softball or slow. Pitch, softball and then we have like
fifteen thousand square feet a turf that can be used

(01:24:47):
in entirety or chopped up for hitting and. Pitching and
it's a full concession stand with four beers on tap
and TVs. Everywhere it's a cool. Spot you. Know we've
got our baseball card show coming up On august twenty.
Fourth we've done comedy in. There if you can believe
that that was something we tried comedy in a baseball. Facility,

(01:25:09):
yeah We actually there's a, guy his name Is Mark.
Paul he does really funny baseball content like that travel
ball families really. Appreciate so we brought him in AND
i did like a kind of a one on one
and did some of my stand up and you, know
we had four hundred and fifty people in.

Speaker 3 (01:25:25):
There it was. Awesome you're in that travel ball. WORLD
i am in the travel ball what's that for? You you?

Speaker 11 (01:25:30):
Know and this may SOUND i know it's it can
be very frustrating because it. Is it is a there
are some real, characters but you, know like not to
get too like, sappy BUT i want to change the
way that that world operates BECAUSE i feel like it's
ruining kids in their love of sports before they even

(01:25:51):
get to high. School, yeah and the people that are,
in you, know in the know in the later stages
of baseball have said that it's ruining, kids and so
we started our own organization called The Red Legs. Okai
we've got eight teams in our first year and they
practice and train out of our. Building but we're trying
to create teams that have the right attitude when it

(01:26:13):
comes To we're not trying to play one hundred and
fifty games as an eleven year, Old, like we want
to teach these kids how to play baseball and make
sure they're good enough to play in high school if
they want, to but that they're not burned out on
it by the time that they get.

Speaker 3 (01:26:25):
There.

Speaker 4 (01:26:25):
YEAH i talk to parents who have kids in travel
ball AND i don't know what else they do during the,
summer and it just DOESN'T i, MEAN i love playing
baseball as a. KID i could just see myself, going
this isn't that.

Speaker 11 (01:26:37):
Fun, yeah you, know we've tried to be real conscious
of that with our son and the, teams you, know
BUT i know parents that it's like every weekend as
a family vacation to somewhere you, know and it's JUST
i don't, KNOW i don't understand. It you, know you
can stay around here and still get good at. Baseball

(01:26:59):
we have a rich hit strey of kids that just
played baseball In cincinnati and did just, okay, yeah traveling To.
Delaware that's. Right And i'll tell you. What hockey's even.
Worse LIKE i got a buddy of mine whose kid
is an incredible goalkeeper and he's, fourteen AND i was,
like he's, like where were you guys last? Week i'm, like,

(01:27:20):
oh we were in you, Know. Indianapolis where were You Prague? Hockey,
yeah fourteen years old playing hockey In. Prague and it's,
LIKE i think it's the coolest, opportunity but, like that
is an, investment that is that is quite the investment
to be uh be on that. Level so we're fine
with where we. Are we're just trying to grow it

(01:27:41):
here locally and find people that have the same.

Speaker 3 (01:27:44):
Mindset all, right.

Speaker 4 (01:27:45):
Very, Good josh need dot. Com are you playing locally
anywhere anytime?

Speaker 3 (01:27:49):

Speaker 11 (01:27:50):

that's usually the time of year WHERE i do a local.
Show but you, know follow me on the socials and
uh and keeping on the. Website it'll get up there.

reporters after today's.

Speaker 5 (01:31:04):
LOSS i, thinkure what court against you?

Speaker 3 (01:31:11):
Guys that kind of kept you in.

Speaker 12 (01:31:12):
Jack you, know he had velocity and a little bit of,
cut probably natural. Cutting then they had the bigger one
that what do they call slider or, whatever kind of
boring on the lefties and there was plenty of, velocity
and we kind of knew they would unload their bullpen
today because they hadn't pitched those. Guys so the minute
there was, anything they went right right to their.

Speaker 6 (01:31:33):
Bullpen so you weren't surprised at all with a low
pitch account that he came.

Speaker 5 (01:31:36):
Out.

Speaker 12 (01:31:36):
NO i kind of thought maybe because HE i kind
of thought that's what they would.

Speaker 3 (01:31:40):
Do what'd you see From abot?

Speaker 5 (01:31:42):
Today your?

Speaker 12 (01:31:42):
IMPRESSIONS i didn't think he had his best, commands especially,
early saying that you look up and he, said what
six and two? Thirds and he's had given up to,
it you, know and gave up. THREE i, mean he just,
competes and he changed speeds even early when he wasn't.
Commanded he could flip his brake and ball in for
a strike to get back into. Council it's just hard
for guys to kind of put up big street together against.

Speaker 11 (01:32:05):
Him anything you noticed different compared to his first two
starts against them this year and his approach with them
are their approach with.

Speaker 3 (01:32:13):
HIM i, CAN'T i, CAN'T i, CAN'T i. DON'T i.
DON'T i, MEAN i, KNOW i don't.

Speaker 12 (01:32:19):
KNOW i, MEAN i don't look back barely past. Yesterday,
yes you might have.

Speaker 10 (01:32:27):
Some quick answer to this question just getting out of.

Speaker 1 (01:32:30):
Here you got a couple of wins and also started.

Speaker 5 (01:32:32):
The week with quite a bit of. Adversity is there
anything to take out of this?

Speaker 3 (01:32:35):
WEEK i don't ever do.

Speaker 12 (01:32:37):
THAT i don't know WHY i asked.

Speaker 5 (01:32:39):
THAT i don't do. THAT i.

Speaker 3 (01:32:40):
Don't IF i thought it was, productive i'd do.

Speaker 12 (01:32:43):
It it's just not a productive way to do.

Speaker 4 (01:32:45):
Things, oh, Okay, Tito i'm not happy with. That was
That Gordon whittmyer that asked that question of a decent.
Question you know you lost, today but you, know came
To chicago a lot of adversity after the way things
went down In, bristol you had The nicolodolo blister, situation
found a way to win two. GAMES i think it's all,
Right Tito. Francona we stole that from THE Fandol Sports.

(01:33:09):
Network we thank, Them Thank tito for getting the butt
a little. BIT i think that was With gordon fair.
Question that's kind of HOW i. Look you want to
win every. GAME i think today's, game today's game felt
a little bit bigger because of who you face tomorrow
and who you had on the mound. Today Andrew abbott

(01:33:29):
has been their best pitcher all season, long and so
you want to you want to win those games where he,
pitches and you want to win those game especially want
to win those games where he. Pitches were now like
your your second most reliable, Guy nicolodolo is out for
a little, while and then you you're Facing Paul skans.
Tomorrow and let's face, it The pirates have lost a
whole bunch of the Games Paul skeens has pitch because

(01:33:49):
they are wretched. Offensively, uh you would have liked to
have gotten, Today BUT i don't, KNOW i don't know
how you don't look at the last few days as
a whole and go now. Positive, Right, yes you're rooting
For arizona to win tonight so you don't lose a
game On San, Diego and, yes it would have been
nice to win today so you can gain another game
On New. York The, mets by the, way lost today

(01:34:11):
to The Cleveland, guardians but FROM i think where we
were On sunday evening where they had lost that game To,
atlanta and lost that game To atlanta and had to
burn through their bullpen and then turn around On monday
because of The lodolo. Blister you got to go to
the bullpen in the second inning for a second straight.

Speaker 3 (01:34:30):
Day you found a way to win that.

Speaker 4 (01:34:32):
Game Zach littel gave you exactly what you needed, yesterday
which was length and. Efficiency and even as much as
you would have liked to have won the ball game,
Today Andrew abbott pitched into the seventh, inning so that
issue has been kind of, rectified and they won two
of the three. GAMES i don't think you're being too

(01:34:52):
much of a glass half full person to, go you know,
what that's In, Chicago given the circumstance answers that they
went Into chicago with and given what they.

Speaker 3 (01:35:03):
Dealt with early in that, series that's a decent three.

Speaker 4 (01:35:08):
Days they've, played what is it, now one hundred and fifteen,
games forty seven to. Go the team itself has changed
a little.

Speaker 3 (01:35:20):
Bit you. Know last night was really about the new.

Speaker 4 (01:35:22):
Guys andrew harr had a big night off, offensively And
Cabrian hayes came off the bench and made a really
nice play at third, base And Zach lyttel was. Terrific
last night was a night for the new, acquisitions and
the team itself has, changed AND i think the team
itself is. Better Ky Brian hayes helps them. Defensively the

(01:35:43):
dude doesn't hit at, all but he does help them.
Defensively and him helping the team, DEFENSIVELY i don't think
has come at the cost of much offensively Because Noelvie,
marte by the, way he made another really nice catch
in right field, today is still getting regular playing, time
And Miguel andrhar can crush. Lefties Zachly tell's a quality

(01:36:04):
big league. Starter but for all the changes that have been,
made we're asking the same question On august sixth we
were actually asking On march six which is are they
gonna hit? Enough that's not a response to how they lost,
today scoring just one. Run they had two hits going
into the ninth. Inning it's a question reflective of how

(01:36:26):
they've played one hundred and fifteen games to this. Point
their starting pitching is legitimately, good and If Hunter green
comes back and stays, healthy which is the bigger, thing
then it's gonna be even. Better but are they gonna
be able to hit? Enough or can the starting, staff

(01:36:48):
the relievers they have in the, bullpen and the added
recent emphasis on, defense can those things be good enough
to overcome an average offensive. Team what we thought but
The reds were going to be coming into the season
has been what they've been all year. Long they're gonna pitch,
okay should be better. Defensively are they gonna hit enough

(01:37:12):
over the final forty seven games enough to overcome the
two teams that are directly in front of? Them are
they gonna hit? Enough if the answer is, no can
the things they're good? At can they be even better
at enough to help them overcome Either San diego Or
New york or? Both seventeen away from six. O'clock, Meanwhile

Speaker 3 (01:38:52):
Year what can we learn about that unit starting?

Speaker 10 (01:38:54):
Tomorrow, well you, know such a major component that was
missing last year year in Lou Ana ruver's defense was.
Communication they just seemed at times to not communicate where
they need to. Be they also at times were out of,
position and they just played. Hesitant ginostone didn't really play
like himself till the end of the. Year they have

(01:39:16):
a lot of youth back.

Speaker 5 (01:39:16):
There in the.

Speaker 10 (01:39:17):
Secondary everything we've heard up to this point has been
about simplifying clear, communication playing, fast and being. Aggressive and
we've seen that throughout training. Camp we've seen AND i
think you hit it With Paul Danner junior. Yesterday the
level of play is not the, same but you AND
i Watched Kobe bryant And Soft gardner And Brian cook

(01:39:38):
play at The university Of, cincinnati and they carried themselves
with a confidence that exuded when you watch them and
listened to them on a practice field or on a game.
Field it's a little bit like we've heard from the secondary.
Here but to, me it's about lining. Up it's about
making sure you're playing your. Responsibility it's not having blown,

(01:39:59):
coverages and when you have an opportunity to make a,
play go make a play on the.

Speaker 3 (01:40:02):
Ball no question about.

Speaker 4 (01:40:04):
That i'm also he's not in the, secondary, obviously but you,
know it felt like One Shamar stewart showed up for training,
camp we started talking a lot about, him and for good,
reason it kind of Shoved Demetrius knight a little bit
to the, background which was also kind of a theme
Of mini camp and OTAs because of all the time
focused On. Schamar Yet Demetrius, night by all, accounts has been,

(01:40:24):
terrific AND i can't wait to see what that looks
like tomorrow night In.

Speaker 10 (01:40:28):
Philadelphia i'm most excited because you Heard Zach taylor talk
About Demetrius knight in a way where he almost goes
overboard at practice sometimes meaning playing after the, whistle playing
borderline of hitting or tackling when you're not supposed to.
Be And Zach taylor even, SAID i will take a
guy that airs on or that has a problem on

(01:40:49):
that side than someone who's too timid or stops before the.
Whistle so they've essentially had to pull the reins back
On Demetrius. Knight tomorrow, night you get to take that.
Off you get to go play at full, speed you
get to go hit, somebody and with that you get
an opportunity to maybe make some plays in. Space because
up to this, point if you are a running backer
in the flats and you run by him and just

(01:41:11):
kind of tag, off then that's assuming you're making a. Tackle,
well now you have to actually bring that player to the.
Ground and by all, accounts he's playing, fast he's, physical
he pushes the. Issue i'd like to see him do
that against The eagles tomorrow night as.

Speaker 4 (01:41:24):
Well you, know and we talk so much about, well you,
Know Al golden's defense emphasizes linebacker and it puts a
huge onus On Logan wilson And Demetrius knight and all
of that is, true, right but they also have other.
Linebackers Orm burks is going to be on the field
tomorrow night against his former. Team and it's not like

(01:41:45):
they drafted just one linebacker. Either they've got a kid
From clemson who it feels, like all, right you, know
he is basically going to be a special teams, contributor
but you're always looking for. Depth i'm interested In Barret
carter as.

Speaker 10 (01:41:56):
Well, Yeah Barrett carter has been one of those guys
we haven't talked a bunch about who is going to
get opportunities tomorrow. Night so see how he plays when
the lights are. On it's. Odd the only time we
talked About Aaron BURKS mo was the day Where Logan
wilson got A vet, day AND i Thought Aaron burks
was all over the. FIELD i thought he performed really
well that day in, coverage in team. Drills it was

(01:42:17):
a day we thought the defense had beat the, offense
and we made a big point because they did it
Without Logan. Wilson so look when he got the opportunity
with The eagles last year in the, playoffs he was.
Fantastic he's going to get an opportunity tomorrow night with The.
Bengals maybe he can carve himself out an even bigger
role for The bengals by performing on a high level
against The eagles tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (01:42:37):
