The Bengals went through their final practice before tomorrow night's
preseason opener in Philadelphia against the Eagles. Joe Burrow and
the starters are going to play for. As Zach Taylor
put it, the first quarter ish, which is all well
and good. I don't think any of us love the
idea of Joe playing in games that don't count, but
we understand why they're doing what they're doing. This puts

a very intense focus on the line that Joe is
going to be playing behind.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
You know, it's crazy because if you go back to
the start of the last couple regular seasons, when this
team has sputtered out of the gate, the conversation is, well,
you got to play those guys in the preseason. And
it's so easy to say when the season has started.
When you actually get here on the eve of the
first preseason game and you had the thought of Joe
Burrow being out there, it's terrifying. And again, if this

was Week one after the Patriots last year, I was
the one hitting the table. You got to play them
in the preseason. Here we are. I'm nervous, and more
so nervous because I've watched what the offensive line has
been to this point. Look to try to protect the quarterbacks.
I know, play calling wise, you're not going to put
them in any seven step drops and spread it out

so there's no protection. But at the same time, those
guys on the other side of the ball are trying
to make a name for themselves. Those guys are going
one hundred miles an hour and they want to see
red and when they bust burst through the offensive line,
they're not stopping. Because it's a preseason game, so you
better make sure that the scheme is in place. You
better make sure the playbook masses. But at the same time,
you better make sure those guys up front are one

hundred percent on board with what their scheme and what
their job is on each and every snap, because you
cannot allow a free rusher in a preseason game to
take an unnecessary hit onto Joe Burrow.
