Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is Football in the Nattie, brought to you by
Modern Office Methods on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home
of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
After four o'clalk, this is ESPN fifteen thirty. This is
the time week we spend with our friend Jay Morrison
Bengals Talk dot Com, also part of the Growler Podcast
with Paul Damer Junior, and on Twitter at by j Morrison.
Hij Hey, Moe. I wanted to thank you for the
(00:34):
walk down Memory Lane with a whole bunch of Bengals
defensive coordinators, some of which I wanted to forget, like
Tara Austin.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
That didn't last long? Did it not even a whole season?
Speaker 2 (00:47):
No? No, not at all for me, Jay, What I
was looking for against Cleveland. I wanted to see the
Bengals tackle and I wanted to see them not look
like they were going to be pushed around. And that
was a good starting point. The Browns were implicit in
their own demise. That's not a great offense. I viewed
that as the Bengals passing the test with more than
just a C minus grade. How about you?
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yeah, I agree that had the drop passes, the interceptions,
were gifts, but at the same time, the Browns had
three plays I think longer than twenty yards. That's an
encouraging sign. I'm with you. I thought the tackling was
really good, especially from Demetrius Night, a rookie. You go
back and they were credited with seven mistackles. That seemed
(01:33):
high to me, but it was still an improvement we
were used to seeing last year. There wasn't a lot
of confusion and pointing and trying to get lined up,
you know, before the snap. So there you take away
the all the frequent completions, which were a lot of
checkdowns and short passes, and I know fans get frustrated
seeing them move the chains that way, but they did
(01:56):
force Cleveland to work their way down the field, and
not just Cleveland. Any offence is gonna make mistakes when
you make him go do it over and over and
over again. So I thought there was a lot of
positive signs. Even though it was just the Browns.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
There were positive signs, and there were positive signs in
the secondary. I don't want to dwell on the negative,
but it wasn't a great game for cam Taylor britt
And so you could tell me what you think about this.
I'm going to be watching him closely against the Jacksonville
offense that actually has some dudes.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Yeah, and so we saw it last week where they
rotated basically DJ Turner and Sig Newton. I would not
be surprised at all if we see Cam in a
rotation this week, probably with Fig. It seemed like dj
DJ didn't get to start, but al gold said that
was more product of him being heard leading in practice
(02:46):
leading up and the big kind of earned the start
based on what he had done in practice and then
mec DJ playing better in the game and he gets
more reps. So I could see that happen. We talked
to Cam yesterday and Al Golden even said that Cam
came up to him the Monday morning before the the
defensive meeting and said, that's not going to happen again.
And I just want you to know that I know
what I did wrong on the shortcomings were and you know,
(03:08):
he said he I was impressed with his accountability, but
that's he left it at that. The play has to
get better. Zach even dropped the line yesterday, I see
better than I hear it. So I'm saying all the
right things right now. That they need to see the consistency,
and I would not be surprised at off we see
him rotating at some point on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Do you think that you know when he I'm sure
found out from someone that Zach used his line that
when when Marvin heard that, Zach said I see better
than I hear that, I brought a smile to his face.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Oh yeah, and the famous Marv chuckle. I'm sure as well.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
I things kind of unfolded poorly late in the game
with Miles Garrett the past protection and Joe Burrow having
to avoid a safety. What I hated about that, Jay
was I thought for the better part of the afternoon
the offensive line was okay. At the very least, that
was something to build upon for this Sunday and moving forward.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Yeah, I agree with you. It's one of those kind
of the damn will eventually break type of thing where
you're not gonna shut out Miles Garrett for an entire game.
You just have to go into it now. You don't
want to give up back to back sacks, but I did.
I thought they played really well. I thought they held
up in pass protection really well. About early on. The
run blocking was really strong. They started off running the
(04:28):
ball pretty well, and then I think it's they talk
about it all the time, but you just don't convert
the third downs, you go in three and outs, you
don't get in the rhythm. But I thought overall it
was an encouraging sign. None bigger than Dalton Reisner. I mean,
that guy had qu padded practices and he gets thrown
into the game that early, and I thought he held
up pretty well and they're going to need him now.
(04:49):
And if people didn't see the news, Lucas Patrick went
on IR yesterday, so he's going to miss at least
the next four games. So they are going to need
Dalton Reisner to step up and get into football shape
or her because he's not a guy that was working
out and looking for a team. He had not played
any real football since last January in the playoffs, and
I thought that was a really impressive performance for him
to come in that play as much as he did,
(05:10):
play as well as he did.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Yeah, all things considered, a terrific Bengals debut for Dalton Riisner. Jaymorrison,
Bengals Talk dot Com, The Growler Podcast. Always awesome to
have you man, Thanks so much.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Okay, thanks Moe, you got it.
Speaker 2 (05:24):

Our pregame coverage Sunday Morning from the Holy Grail begins
at nine o'clock. Tony Pike, Ken Brew and myself. We
are broadcasting outdoors today and we've got a tent. It's
kind of later in the afternoon. It's warm, it's not
(05:46):
it's not oppressive. Again, we have a tent on top
of us. It is great to be out here at
TPC at Rivers been for the Kroger Queen City Championship
presented by P ANDNG. Poll questions on this show are
thanks to our friends at United Heartland Insurance. You know
we're closing in on as we say in the corporate world.
Q four Q four begins on October first, October one,
(06:10):

to start making maybe decisions about your insurance. So do
yourself a favor, take a look at what you're paying
for stuff like just auto insurance, life insurance UH and
then check out uhi NS dot com. Reach out to
the folks at United Heartland Insurance and see how they
can help you save money. I believe, and I may
(06:33):
be dead wrong, but I believe that eighty five wins
will get the Reds to the postseason again. Man, maybe
the New York Mets free fall continues, and maybe the
San Francisco Giants just can't get to eighty five wins,
or maybe one of those two teams just really catches
fire and gets to, like, I don't know, eighty six
or eighty seven wins. I think eighty five with New
(06:55):
York holding a with the with Cincinnati holding a tiebreaker
over New York, I think eighty five will do it,
which means they've got to finish eleven. So the question is, well,
I give you four choices. A they will, B they
can ce probably not, D no chance. I'm gonna be
slightly optimistic and say they can. They can doesn't mean
(07:18):
they will. Ah. I don't know how a team that
has just failed to enjoy any amount of sustained success
can have your confidence to the degree that you're like,
you know what, They're gonna do this. But green, Abbott
and Lodola are healthy. They have put behind them a
couple of their tougher teams that were remaining on the
(07:40):
schedule coming into September, the Mets are probably gonna play better.
I don't see him running away with it. Same with
San Francisco. Now that the Giants have the Rockies, another
series with Arizona, They've got a series with Saint Louis.
They'so have seven with the Dodgers. I think eleven and
five is not far fetched. I'm not betting well. I
(08:03):
am betting on it because the value is great, but
eleven and five is maybe not something that you would
count on. But I don't think it's that far fetched.
Vote now at Mullegar FC Cincinnati, EFC Cincinnati. I'm getting
real twenty twenty four vibes from FC Cincinnati. They've got
