Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is ESPN fifteen thirty. Mole Eggar broadcasting from the Anthony
Munios Foundation. Top Golf Tail Game on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Chad Rendel joins us every Thursday, Talk a little Bearcat football.
U S getting set to play Bowling Green on Saturday
at KNIPPERG Stadium. Hi, Chad.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Out, how's it going?

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Life is good? Life is good. Life would be a
lot better had the Bearcats finished that game against Nebraska.
The defense held its own, which we'll talk about. Cincinnati's
offense had a lot of twenty twenty four in the
twenty twenty five season opener. What was the biggest culprit?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Clearly the passing game? I mean, And the thing is,
I know it's easy to bag on Brendan Soresby because
quite frankly, he didn't play well and deserves some heat for,
you know, not getting the job done. But man, there
were a couple of plays in there that two of
those screens that it should have been big games, one

(01:02):
to drop on, miss block. There was just stuff that
could have got that offense on track and had a
much bigger day. And the execution was poor, And you
know that's the problem though, as there really was. If
you go like as you go back and dig through it,

(01:22):
there was a lot to like about that game, but
they couldn't win it, and the reason they didn't win
it felt a lot like why they didn't win games
in twenty twenty four, and that's disconcerting to say the least.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Yeah, I mean, some of the themes from last year,
and look, defensively, I don't think you could ask for
much more. The Special team's play was vastly improved. With
you and I talked about a lot this offseason. They
ran the ball effectively. I don't put that much of
what I saw in the downfield passing game on Brendan
Sorosby because I didn't think anybody could get open. What
I did think they would do was take advantage of

(01:59):
Joe Royer. That didn't happen.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yeah, I mean, obviously, look, Joe Royer is at the
top of the scouting report Mouth teams know you're gonna
have to stop Joe Royer to beat Cincinnati. So one,
you're gonna need other guys to play well to open
that up. And two you can't just throw up your
hands and say, oh, well they they You know they've

(02:25):
tried to take them away mission accomplished that. That sucks
to be up like. That's one of my biggest like
red flags on this game. Though. Remember last year when
they played Iowa State and they just kind of threw
their hands up and said, up, Iowa State's got a
great pass the events weren't gonna be able to pass
the ball. Then they threw for sixty yards. Boy, last

(02:48):
week felt like a lot of the same. Up. Nebraska's
probably the best pass efense will play this year, just
not gonna be able to pass the ball. Like, you
can't have that, and part of that is getting the
ball in your hand of the best player on your
offense and letting him go do his thing. He did not.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Should should people be mad that they took four and
a half million dollars to move that game?

Speaker 2 (03:15):
I think it's more it's gonna end up being more
than four and a half million dollars once you add
in the bonuses and the ticket stuff. Look, does it
suck for fans? Absolutely? Was it inconvenience for the team? Absolutely?
Should John Cunningham be fired if he didn't take that money? Probably, Like,

(03:39):
you know, this is not Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, where
you know you just make a call and somebody will
throw in three, four or five million dollars. You have
got to be creative. You have got to get money
wherever you can. And when you can make four to
five million dollars, you make four to five million dollars.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Bowling Green any good?

Speaker 2 (04:02):
I don't think so. And then they scored what one
offensive touchdown? Last week? They kicked four field goals. They
ran the ball a ton with moderate success. If this
defense is better, and we think it's better, boy, they
better be able to handle Bowling Green.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
I would agree with that whole heartily. It's it's always
awesome to have you. The non conference basketball schedule came out,
so I don't have to ask you about that, and
I guess we'll see out it's out.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Yeah, the answer to your question.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
Was this week, Yes, out.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
And then I think to answer your other question, the
past three years, it's been September twenty third, September twenty sixth,
and September twenty sixth. Right, so sometime in that second
to last or last week of September, we will know
the entire schedule, and uh, you know, then you can

(05:03):
be perfectly content until you start throwing tens in November.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Let's hope. Let's hope we don't throw any in November.
We'll see Chad. Thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
As always, thanks well, I appreciating.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Man, Chad Brenda, Bearcat journal dot com. You see in
Bowling Green three thirty Saturday on both seven hundred WLW
and one O two point seven w EBN. We're broadcasting
from the Anthony Munoz Foundation. Top Golf Tailgate will be
joined by Robert Jackson and I believe Joe Walter. Next
on ESPN fifteen thirty. Cincinnati Sports station Twin Peaks is

(05:37):
the best
