Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, I often say when the weather gets nice,
I'll say, like Teraren, can we do the show outside?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Today?
Speaker 1 (00:04):
We are, and even better, we're doing it at a
golf course. We are doing it at TPC at Rivers Bend,
the home of the twenty twenty five Kroger Queen City Championship,
presented by P and G.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
And this is a really pretty day.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Obviously it's going to be warm this weekend, but the
course is awesome. The folks here do an awesome job
with this event. Tickets on sale all weekend long, starting
at thirty dollars Queen City LPGA dot com my friend,
and I am ashamed to say that I don't remember this.
Sarah Kellum, digital content manager LPGA dot com is with
(00:40):
me and as she came up to the table said,
we've met. You talked to me like ten years ago,
and I have no recollection of that.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
I don't hold you to that. That's okay, it's been
a long time. I was a different person ten years ago,
you were a different person ten here.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Sadly I was the same man. That's I haven't evolved
at all talking to the same guy. I love it. Yeah,
it's awesome to have you. You're a local girl, I
am a woman.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Well you can girls, I just don't call her our
players girls called them women.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
But no. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
I grew up in Great Kenny, Kentucky, Northern Kentucky girl,
and went to Northern Kentucky University, played collegiate golf there
for four years, and I now live in my dream
with the LPGA, which is pretty cool. I thought i'd
be playing out here, but writing about it and telling
our athlete stories is just as good.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
But that's that's pretty cool, man.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
You know, if it's like the next best I always say,
like I learned at a young age, I couldn't play
anything well, so the next best thing is to talk
about it.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
You played golf at a really high level.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
The next best thing beyond being on the LPGA tour
would be the have the job you have I.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Do, And I got lucky. Right out of college. I
worked for Golf Channel for two and a half years,
and I thought that was the dream job, and it was.
While I was there, it was the best day ever
every time I showed up to that office and got
to cut highlights or sound or do whatever. But when
I came to the LPGA, I didn't realize how hard
and fast I was going to fall in love with
this organization. And it's such a you know, top to bottom,
all of our athletes are so great to work with,
(01:56):
all the caddies, all the staff, like it's just such
a fun time.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
It feels like the LPGA Tours in a really good place.
It is.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
We play for over one hundred and thirty million in
prize money this year. It's our seventy fifth anniversary season.
We've been around for seventy five years, the old swim
in sports league in the world, and we're really proud
of that. And it's been cool to see our athletes succeed.
I think a lot of people have missed. I've had
twenty four different winners in twenty three events. We have
one team event on the schedule right and that just shows,
you know, the strength of the tour. Like I said,
(02:23):
top to bottom and really what these athletes are made of.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
And then to get twenty one of those winners here
the field they have is pretty awesome.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
This always is a good field. I think the players
recognize the caliber of golf course, the caliber of event
that this is. I know Karger and p Andng try
to put on a really good tournament for our athletes,
and it's noticed. I mean, we have a few different
grocery store sponsors throughout the season, and Kroger's has come
in and made a name for themselves the past four years.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah, and the course here is just awesome.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
It's a great golf course. It's a little bit soft
this year, which I think everybody is very happy about. Obviously,
some of the scores out there today with Steady wanted
to say, and I mean nine under anywhere is impressive,
particularly see River's Bend. But it's a it's been long
for our athletes and they've been they've been able to
take advantage of maybe hitting some drivers off the off
these tea boxes and and going.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Low nine hunder sounds like for you just sort of
a casual Sunday morning.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
I wish man, I was really good at making birdies.
It was really good at making doubles. That was kind
of that was kind of my yeah. I mean, you know,
and my dad would kind of go, you know, come on, man,
you gotta clean up the doubles. I'm like, dude, I
don't try to make them like it's intentional.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Uh huh. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
It doubles for me, that's that's pretty good. Get in
the cart and put that in the cart and feel
pretty happy about it. That that's not bad.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
What is it? What's the coolest part about covering the
LPGA Tour?
Speaker 3 (03:37):
It's our athletes. You know, I talk all the time,
people kind of ask me what my career aspirations are,
and you know, hey, do you want to go to
a different organization. I'm like, honestly, every time I'm out
on the LPGA, every time I write a story, every
time somebody wins out here, it's so cool because no
matter if you're Nelly courtA, no matter if you're set
you want to say in no matter who you are,
your life changes every single time a player wins out here.
And you've seen that this season with those twenty four
(03:59):
different champion twenty one of them here, like you said,
and you know Lydia co tallered her twenty third career
win earlier this year, right, Yeah, it's a twenty third
time winning, but it still is a life changing moment
for her, no doubt. It's it's really cool. And I think,
you know, our athletes are so approachable, they're so accessible,
and I think everybody says that about the LPGA or
says that about their own organization, and that our athletes
really are you could have a full conversation with Yeah,
(04:19):
any of their any of their you know, athletes, or
any of our athletes, excuse me, and their caddies, and
they're just happy to be happy that you're out here,
happy to be here.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
I walked down to autograph alley before I got on
the air here at two o'clock.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
How did you get in because it's it's quite tall. Yeah,
kind of duck down.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Duck down, Yeah, but there were players signing.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
It was nice, you know, and you see that it's like, okay,
they set that up, but the player is actually going
to cooperate.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
And then it felt to me like the answer was yes.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
It's always yes. And I think that's you know, our
thirteen founders in nineteen fifty, that was what they had
to do. They had to say yes to everything. They
would do fashion shows, they would do clinics, they had
to they had to fight to get this tore off
the ground. And I think that's been instilled in our
athletes as this organization has grown. Is we act like
found out here and you know, if you have a
twenty second interaction with a kid, you're creating a fan
for life in that moment. So it's make we make
(05:06):
a priority for the autographs.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
That's for sure.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
This event is it's maybe not in its infancy, it's
maybe in the toddler stage, and so it's it's only
going to grow and get better. But I mean, it's
it's got to be a source of pride for you
to watch something in effectively your hometown take off and
become in this area at least one of the major
events on the Cincinnati sports calendar.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
I'm so trying to convince our athletes that Skyline Chili
is good.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
They done of them believe I'm over here.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Okay, we'll work on that.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
We'll take care of that for him.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
But I was really, really, really excited in twenty two
when I heard that Kirger and p and g We're
going to bring this event to town. You know, I mean,
you know, of all people, we're such a great sports
city and women's golf does have quite a bit of
history here. It's just history, and we needed to bring
some sort of golf event back, I think to the
Tri State area. And I'm really excited to see what
this continues to do.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
How does this compare to other events of this on
this tier on the tour.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
It's a pretty good field. I mean, I think that's
everybody's first questions, who's gonna come? I think this week
we have a substantial amount of our role ex. Women's
World Golf rankings, top twenty five in the field, there's
top four players in the world are here, and I
think that tells you everything you need to know. The
athletes are coming. They appreciate the golf course, they appreciate
the caliber of what this event has been coming and
(06:19):
has become over the years, and they continue to show up.
I mean, Nelly's played it I think two or three times,
if actually debut is last year since their second time here.
A couple other of our athletes have played it. Every
year has been out here, So it's been cool to
see them buy in to what Cincinnati Golf can offer.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Do you like do you get to play the courses?
Speaker 3 (06:35):
I wish this one I actually played in college. Did
not play well, so I will not elaborate on that further.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Those records are probably kept on the internet. Unfortunately.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
It's really yeah, I had a rough rough time here,
but it's beautiful now. I mean they're they're tearing it up.
I couldn't certainly couldn't do that, right, But now I
haven't played too terribly many of our courses is.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
On my list though, okay, very I mean you got
to be able to pull some strings. I'm sure you'll
be okay.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
I've played timber On, which is where our SEAMI Group
Tour championship's at, and that one eats my lunch every
time I play it. But it's fun. It's fun to
go out there and pretend I could do this.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Now when you say to eat your lunch, what is that?
What is that versus me?
Speaker 3 (07:15):
At Dad hadn't played in a while, was probably eighty
low eighties.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Oh yeah, first world problems.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Yeah, college golf problems.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
It's hard to be retired. Oh come on, yeah, I've
never shot an eighty in my life.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
We'll work on it.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
I got you. I was. Hey, we've had LPGA professionals
all over them. That will absolutely help you.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
I need the help.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Yeah, we've got all sorts of teaching professionals. I'm sure
we can get hooked up with.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Somebody, no doubt about it. What will I find if
I go to LPGA dot com this.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Weekend, lots of things I'm right in like the wind.
We have so many great stories already on the on
the leaderboard as we speak. Nellie Corda's at the top.
Obviously is now World Sprinkings number two, but she won
seven times this season, still looking for that first one
of the year. So excited to see how she continues
to turn over the weekend. And we've got quite a
bit of really cool video content you I should go
(08:00):
check out. There's a you scroll down on our homepage.
There's a little kind of story section you can quickly
digest highlights and check out what's happened over the course
of the first round and throughout the rest of the weekend.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Awesome. Can't can't thank you enough for stopping by.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
And uh maybe next year we'll be back.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
I hope it's not ten years again. We got we
gotta hang out more next.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
If I'm here next year and you say to me, hey,
I talked to you a year ago, I promise you
I'll remember.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Are you sure?
Speaker 2 (08:23):
Where did we Where do we talk to It was?
Speaker 3 (08:25):
It was over the phone, So I did give the phone.
I can't remember who connected us, but I remember they're like, yeah,
Muhager's a real deal. It's like you need to.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Use your tex I guarantee you. Whoever you're talking about
didn't say that. No, Mowagger is a real person.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
He made said not the real deal. H thank you
so much.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
