had the tiebreaker with New York. Eighty five wins would

mean this team goes eleven and five the rest of
the way. I'll make the math even more simple. They
have series against the A's starting tomorrow, another one against
the Pirates. Here go five and one of those six
games go six and four in the other ten reds
are in the postseason. Season is a success, we'll see.
I'm not saying that's likely. I will tell you this
two things. Number One, On Friday night, when they lost

to the Mets and fell to six games out of
that last wildcard, everybody wrote it off I wrote it
off season over. They got us to football. Done deal,
let's move on. Well, they're right back to where they were,
at least in the game's back column prior to that
series against New York, and you know, only sixteen games

to go. Getting to the postseason is not likely. Might
take all year long. Is the same as it is
right now, which is the starting pitching is good enough
to keep this team from totally falling apart. We'll see
if the offense can be good enough to get him
over the hump. The New York Mets seemingly have no
interest in winning the last wildcard spot. The San Francisco
Giants have shown more interest recently. They do have seven

Andrew Abbott was awesome last night when he came back
out for the eighth inning to face the top three
batters in San Diego's order. Be honest with me. You
were ready to pounce. I'm not gonna say that I

had done this before. He did it in that game
against the Phillies a few weeks ago, where he had
pitched brilliantly. Tito stayed with him. It backfired last night.

it spirals down the drain. Maybe they don't get to
the postseason. It's still mathematically is not that likely. It's
hard to leap frog two teams. The Mets at some
point are gonna get their act together. But you could
see a path like there are so few games remaining

and they're this far away from that last wildcard spot.

the one great pass rusher like The cleveland, does but

many teams are able to do what The browns, do

they kind of want to follow that blueprint and just

to go to other guys and go over the middle

Issue it sounds like a. Strain so walk me through

Strain, yeah SO i think you're. Right this is most
likely represent a muscular strain is probably what we would call.

It and it makes.

Sense you, know once you injure, it you, know in
a previous season or a previous, time it makes it
a little bit more high risk to reinjur it, again
and that would be no different than something like an ankle.
Sprain so the different, grades it's not overly, fancy it's
just based on there's two.

Ways to grade.

It one is just by examining the, player looking at
things like, swelling degree of, pain and any sort of
deficit or defect in the, muscle and the other is
based on, imaging like AN mri scan something or like.

That so over the next few, weeks what's the course
of treatment and does that timeline that they have suggested
basically four weeks make.

Sense it.

Does treatment's pretty simple for this kind of. Thing it's
not a lot of fancy. Treatment it's more compression you,
know early phases, compression rice elevation like you would normally,
do and then on once the healing process is, starting
you're getting into some stretching and you're getting into some
rehab and some. Strengthening eventually you'll get to some on

the field where can pushing off on it and starting
to run a little. Bit the biggest the biggest issue
with these, things just like When burrow had his a
few seasons, ago is, timing you, know trying to guess
the right time to return on the field for. Competition
that's an art form more than it is a. Science
so even the, grating like with AN mri, scan it's,
helpful but it doesn't it doesn't tell, you, hey this

player is exactly going to be ready at four weeks
or five. Weeks it's a little bit based on the,
player based on the hands on with the training, staff
and there's definitely some art to.

It maybe kind of a dumb, question it's really warm right.

IMPACT i don't think the air temperature will have a big.
Impact but to, that when you're when you are rehabbing

muscle warm with some physical activity or getting some good
warm up in before you actually get on.

the function good and make the player, good but possibly

passed his physical when he was traded and yet he's

can you pass for physical if you're.

Dealing with a facet joint, sprain, which by the, Way
i'm also going to have to ask what that.

Is the set.

Joints there's a number of them in the. Spine there's
actually two at every, level so they have a whole
bunch of these to set. Joints and they're, Small they're
about the size of a. Knuckle and so it'd be
akin to jamming your finger on a basketball and having
a sprain that, way something like that happening in the.
Back so we wouldn't look at it as a serious.
Injury so it doesn't surprise me that he could pass up,

physical which would be you, know more range of motion
and movement based and something like. That but it's one
of those things that could just be painful and. Nagging
not necessarily really, serious like you would failure entry, physical
but something that it'll just nag.

You could it lead to something that if he continues to,
play that ends up being a little bit more.

Speaker 23 (01:37:14):
SERIOUS i don't think so from a serious. STANDPOINT i
think it could nag. Him and so when you're deciding
to do some treatment like an injection or stick with
more conservative approaches like you, know rest and wrapping it
and some medications that sort of, thing the goal is
to keep the pain. Controlled and then when you're, deciding you,

know week to, week should the player play or, not
you're trying to balance the need to have the player
in versus the risk of continuing to aggravate the. Injury
so it wouldn't cause any really serious effects on the.

Back they just hurt a.

Lot the talk leading up to that first game was
maybe he would have an. EPIDURAL i guess he did
not have. One walk me through the decision to do
something like that or reframe from.

It, Yeah so an epidural is a spine. Injection it's
a type of spine. Injection so there's several types of
injections you might do for something like, This and all
it is is injecting some medication right down where the problem.
Is so it's it's kind of a fancy. Injection you
use AN x ray to guide the injection down in,
there and it's a relatively long needle to.

Get down in, there And i'm a big lineman like.

That but basically it's putting some steroid down in his
inflamed spot to try to reduce the. Inflammation and so
for the most, part that decision we v based on
how much pain he's.

Lot of pain but function wise he's going to be
good to go, for you, know possibly good to go
for the, weekend he might decide to go with an.
Injection if this pain's more, moderate he might try to

how much of a challenge is it to tell new
stories about a team that we are all so familiar.

CHALLENGE i, mean how DO i tell this? Story you,
Know i'm, like let's do a film on the most
talked about baseball team in the history of. Humanity i'm, like,
sure let's do. That but What i'd decided to do,
was let's look at some of these. PHOTOGRAPHS i looked
like four two hundred and fifty six, pictures AND i was,
like you, know people haven't seen some of. These and

then AS i started listening to some of the radio.
CALLS i was, like you know, what it would be
really cool to show these photos in the context of
some of these radio calls and put together a film
that encompasses ten seasons of the greatest baseball dynasty ever
and do it without showing harmly any film. Footage because
we've Seen Johnny bencher's home, run we've seen The World

series replays over and over, again but we don't get
to live in that moment with the. Photo SO i was, really,
really really trying to capture the seventies the BEST i
could with, photographs, music radio, calls and, oh by the,
Way pepper in this is where the Country Red Country
park comes. In let's talk, about you, know some of
the fans that were From West virginia And indiana And

illinois and all points in, between and kind of pepper
that in there to kind of give context to how
the second smallest market next To Kansas, City Kansas city
was last in The reds became the most dominant team
in a. Decade it's mind boggling to think now that
that's what it. Was but just an, incredible incredible experience to.

size of the radio, network because of the success of the,
team and because of just where we are, Geographically like
that's to, me that's as much a part of the
story as what happened on the field.

i knew the story at the LEAST i THOUGHT i.

give You i'll give you a taste. Here the film
starts with the beat keeping farm In. Colorado, Okay that's

where the story, begins and it ends In pittsburgh at
six forty nine pm In october, fifth nineteen seventy.

of a. Beekeeper he gets in touch With Sparky, anderson
who is IN la and is the bat boy FOR
usc and then they somehow. Meet it's in His sparky's
high school friend is that becomes THE pr guy for
The reds Under hausen Because sparky recommended the job to.

Him and then so when the story comes out that,
oh by the, Way Tom, seberg THE pr guy Recommended
sparky for the. Job just all of these connections were just.
Remarkable so you tell that story and then you realize
at the same time that all of these things are
converging On. Cincinnati Reds country is being. Built it Wasn't
Reds country until sixty eight sixty, nine when the marketing

team got a hold of an Old ford ad and,
said this is what we're going to. Do so telling
that story of how it Became redstune and the genius
That Bob housen was it not just baseball but. MARKETING
i learned so Much moo AND i cannot wait to

DIFFERENT i think people are going to enjoy.

It you, know The a's won more titles in the,
seventies The yankees won as many in the nineteen. Seventies
The dodgers were always really, good The phillies were always really.

Seventies and YET i don't think in that era there
was a more culturally Significant Major league baseball, team maybe
sports team in The United states Of, america than The Cincinnati.

Generations, Look i'm not going to PRETEND i was alive.
THEN i was born in seventy. Seven BUT i THINK
i think there are younger folks who Hear Big Red
machine and, go, yeah great baseball, Team Rose, Bench, morgan et.
CETERA i don't know that younger fans will know. THAT
i don't know that younger fans can really grasp. It
in the, seventies like these these guys were more than
just a baseball.

Team, Yeah and that's one of the reasons WHY i
wanted to make this.

Film we have to keep that history.

Alive it's not just you, know not to borrow THE nba.
Commission it's not a highlight, league, Right baseball is, stories it's,
people and we get we are so far removed from
that as we keep marching forward through time that stories
like The Big Red machine just become headlines and we
hear About, pete and we hear About johnny And, morgan

like you, said But, Jeronimo griffy The, bench The Doug,
flynn's the Murv, retmans all of these guys that, contributed
AND i really wanted to make sure that that story was,
told and to do it in a short amount of.
TIME i had to cut this baby down LIKE i
do all my, films.

Goes BUT i really think that this type of, film
WHERE i can tell the story so the kids can,
LEARN i want this is more about the future than
it is for the people that know about The Big Red.
