Speaker 1 (00:00):
Pretty much feels like they're second consecutive by weekend after
last week. They opened up Big twelve play a week
from Saturday against the Kansas Jayhawks, who have a game
this weekend against West Virginia.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Chad's obviously the proprietor.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Editor and owner and main contributor Bearcat Journal dot com.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Hi Chad, hi'm o.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
That's that was a lot.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
It's a lot. Yeah, trying to boost you. Yeah up.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
That was a good intro. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
I've watched a lot of FBS versus FCS games.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
I think that's the worst one I've ever seen.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
It's by far the worst team I've ever seen. I
don't recall anything ever looking like that. Like there were
like Kywie Walker a couple of times, like you could
tell he thought he was going to get tackled and
the guy just bounced off of him like the pinball machine.
It was. It was almost embarrassing how easy that first
(00:54):
quarter was, and really there weren't turnovers like it. It
was like natural easy. What the four plays on the
first drive easy touchdown the next drive is one play
like it reminded me of like one of my favorite
football games I've ever seen, though, Okay, in terms of
(01:17):
how easy you see scored, I saw back Gosh, two
thousand and two. I saw Brian Brom and Mike Bush
play for the Kentucky High School state football championship.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
I think the final was fifty nine to fifty six,
and Brian Brom scored. They scored touchdowns on three drives,
four plays total, and it looked like that it was
just being touchdown Like I was sprinting from end zone
to end zone to watch touchdowns and U se scored
(01:51):
that easily for the first thirty minutes. It was unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
They were bad, God, they were badfl outmatched, and thankfully
the game was shortened.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
It did make me wish they had a game this
week because it does feel like back to back byes.
And look, players got experience and all that, but it
that opponent and the way that game unfolded. Knowing that
Big Twelve play starts on the road next week, I
weirdly wish there was something besides a bye week this weekend.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Yeah. I mean, I think it's good right before conference
play starts to get that first buy in. But I've
said all along though, if you're gonna play the FCS team.
It has to be game one. I see zero, because
that's the whole argument. Right. Also, I have a proposal
I think you would agree with me.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Wait on me.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Everybody should be allowed to play an FCS team as
a preseason game. Yes, the FCS team still gets their money. Yes,
the FBS team gets a tune up, and everybody's happy.
Like playing these games in the regular season outside of
Week one make absolutely we know there's no benefit to that.
(03:02):
What are you getting tuned up for like that? That's
what those games are supposed to be about. Is you
play them because you've only been playing yourself through football camp,
and then you get a warm up game, and then
you get into the schedule playing Nebraska bowling green, and
then that dumpster fire serves no purpose for anybody on
that football team.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Can they be Kansas?
Speaker 3 (03:27):
I think so. I liked Kansas the first two weeks,
but they didn't play anybody that really challenged them. Now,
Missouri's offense looks really good, don't get me wrong, but
Missouri sliced them up. I mean three hundred yards passing,
two hundred yards rushing. You know, after that first quarter
(03:49):
where Kansas started out pretty hot, Missouri dominated that football game.
So I'm really interested to see what they look like
this week against West Virginia because I don't think that's
a very good West Virginia team, especially you know, with
their best player, their star running back out for the season.
If that game, if Kansas's defense gives up, you know,
(04:12):
some yards and points to West Virginia. But yeah, I
think Cincinnati can hang with them. The only thing I
worry about is that offense is tricky. The Kansas runs
it's very efficient, and this is a problem I potentially
see for this defense the rest of the season. Moh
outside of Baylor, most of the teams they play are
(04:34):
going to be content with taking what you give them,
and opponents are before you know, the first two games,
those first two quarterbacks completed eighty percent of their passes. Right,
So if teams are content to go five six yards
at a pop down the field, I fear for Cincinnati's defense.
(04:55):
Teams get greedy and they want to try to push
them ball down the field. I think this defense can
hold its own, but they have shown to this point
and inability to turn teams over and a willingness to
let teams gain three, four or five six yards play
and that concerns me against a team like Kansas that
will take those yards and they're fine with ten to
(05:16):
eleven twelve play touchdown drives.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Right, I got like two minutes here for one basketball thing.
Are you ready?
Speaker 3 (05:25):
I have to talk for two minutes on one basketball question.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Well, we'll see how we do.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Okay, okay, good.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
We have weeks to dive into the nuts and bolts
of the team.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
But I've had some version of this conversation probably five
times over the last two or three weeks, and it
goes like this, Mo, do you think the Bearricats are
going to be any good this year? And I go, yeah,
I do, and the response is yeah, but we thought
the same thing last year. Now, my take on that is,
I think last year's roster construction was flawed because it
(05:56):
wasn't roster construction.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
It was accumulating talent.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
This and I know I've said this to what they've
done this offseason feels like legitimate roster construction, making sure
the piece is fit, and they're talented pieces. So yes,
I actually do think they're going to be good this year.
Should I hold against them?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (06:15):
A year ago I thought they'd be good too, or
is the right way of looking at it the way
that I've chosen.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
To look at it.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Well, I think it's fair if you're skeptical, because less
has to show that it's not just about and you know,
this is something we're learning in the Portal era, in
the nil era, it's not just about amassing as much
talent as you can get in house. There's more to
it than that. It's more complicated than that. It's about
(06:44):
how does your roster fit? Are there too many similar pieces,
too many guys that do too many of the same things,
to where you're not going to be able to utilize them.
Like Dylan Mitchell was a great addition on paper, But
Dylan Mitchell moves Simons fly Coaches from the four to
the three, moved Dan Skillings from the three to the two.
Those two moves were a disaster. So would that team
(07:09):
have been better last year without Dylan Mitchell. That's silly
to say, because Dylan Mitchell might have been their best player.
But it messed with the roster construction, you know, it
messed with the way that that team should have functioned
before he was added. I don't foresee that this year.
I see more versatility. I worry it's still a little
(07:31):
bit about two guards because I don't think there's a
legitimate here's the ball, Go get me a bucket type guy.
But I think you've got point guards. I think you've
got wings. I think you've got forwards. You've got centers
like it looks like on paper it should fit. And
the other thing is I still don't think that's gonna
be a great team offensively, MO. But if you put
(07:55):
Dasjon Thomas, Dade Thomas, and Buck Harris and Bob im
and would stop a chom on the floor. They could
put me or you out there with those four guys,
and I think that's going to be an elite defense, right,
So they are going to have something to hang their
hat on, and I don't think they had that last year.
They missed John Newman, nobody stepped up into that role.
(08:17):
Dylan Mitchell never quite sit and I think it it
threw things off. There was no continuity. And I think
there's going to be much more continuity this year. But
if you want to be skeptical, I really can't argue
with it.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
I don't want to be. I don't want to be
I'm up. You know I'm always optimistic, and I'm.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Yeah, that's I was going to say, that's all. You
are always very optimistic, mo so.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
When it comes to basketball in September, Hell yeah, I
am every year. All right, next week, Thanks so much.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
Thanks brother Beant.
