Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is football I in the Nattie, brought to you
in part by Postman Law and Vice Skyline Chile on
ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Jay Morrison is with US Bengals Talk dot Com, where
among the many things he has done this week, he
has a deep dive into every one of Trey Hendrickson's
NFL leading fourteen pressures. And it's actually a pretty good
illustration as to how good he has been. He has
obviously been somebody we have talked about a ton this week.
Jay is on Twitter at by Jay Morrison and he's
(00:33):
with US now hijo Cam Taylor. Yeah, no, this is perfect.
It's a new time. It gives me more time to
think about the incredible questions I will be asking you.
By the way, have you tried any moodlifting gummies?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Not the kind that you eat? No, but I have.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Oh well, very good. That's perhaps a conversation we can
have in private. I'm looking at the injury report and
there's Cam Taylor bredon now DJ Turner. How much is
their depth going to be tested at corner?
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yeah? A lot? If that if neither one of them
can go a Thursday. Surprise limited is never a good thing.
Cam was a surprise limited yesterday. He started practice and
left early, didn't practice at all today. So, yeah, one
of those guys is down. You you would assume it
it's Josh Newton filling in. And they they rotated Josh
(01:31):
Newton and DJ Turner in week one. Josh Newton barely
played at all. I'm not even sure if you had
a snap in week two. So, uh, that that's concerning.
And if they're both down, then that you're talking about
bringing Marco Wilson up, and you know it's it's a
it's a backup quarterback. It's Carson Wentz. He's been around
this league for a long time, but he's only been
(01:51):
with the Vikings for a couple of weeks. But you've
got Jay Justin Jefferson on on that other receiving corp.
That's a concern. So yeah, that's definitely gonna be something
to watch tomorrow's injury to forward to see how serious
both of those guys' hamstrings are.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
I worry about I worry about those things for Sunday.
But also with Jake Brownings, as reliable as he is
and as much as I think all of us feel
comfortable with him taking over the team for at least
three months. I think there's a larger premium on the
team's overall health now, isn't there.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Yeah? Absolutely. I mean the depth was always going to
be kind of an issue. I don't know that maybe
outside a receiver, if there was a position group you
really felt good about the death Act. So now we
talked about it week one. Oh, this is crazy. This
is a totally clean injury report. This never happens, and
(02:49):
now here they go, they're starting to pile up. So
I don't know, pile up might be too strong a word,
but yeah, it's definitely a concern anytime you have injuries
because this team doesn't have great depth, and then when
you or getting injuries happening at the same position group,
whatever that position group is, that he is going to
be a concern going forward.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
So one of the talking points this week has been
what the Bengals could have done this offseason as it
related specifically to the offensive line, and many will allege, hey,
it would have been better off, and many said in
real time, right, better off just trading Trey Hendrickson and
saving the money and spending it somewhere else, spending it
on the offensive line, getting draft capital, taking another lineman.
(03:28):
There's obviously very valid arguments in favor of that. At
the same time, as I've watched him, and as I
read what you wrote where you kind of detailed all
of his pressures, I don't know, man, like this defense,
which now probably has to be better than league average,
how do they even get to that point without Trey Hendrickson,
especially the way he's played these first two weeks.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yeah, I mean, the only thing if they had traded
him and got a pick, you think with the money
they were saving, and then that could lead to getting
a guard, maybe another headresher, and then whatever pick they
got they would have had to hit on. Outside of that,
this defense would be in really bad shape. And it's
remarkable because we've seen Trey do this before. We've seen
(04:10):
him have these these straight I mean, it's just two games,
but the fact that he didn't do anything all off
season and all training camp and he comes in and
these games have been hot in Cleveland. Well Cleveland actually
was I think in the sixties, but that was hot
Sunday against Jacksonville and he's playing. Al Golden talks about
it Monday. He's playing way more than they anticipated him
(04:33):
being able to go, and he's still closing these games.
A lot of those pressures when you look at my
piece were in the fourth quarter. You know, the game
ending sack against Trevor Lawrence last weekend. So yeah, I
don't know where they'd be. There's there's They have twenty
eight pressures and Trey has half of them, and they
only have two different guys he and DJ Hill have sacked.
(04:55):
So you take his sacks and his pressures out, and
this this defensive line, I think, is not going to
scare any offensive offensive line, offensive quarterback, offensive corninator, you
name it.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
If Joe Burrow doesn't play another snap this season, can
Jake Browning take him to the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Canny? Yeah? Would I bet on it? I don't think
I would. But you think about they're two and oh,
and nobody's ruling out a win, or they shouldn't be
ruling out a win. Sunday in Minnesota, you go three
and oh. Since the playoffs expanded in twenty twenty, teams
(05:34):
are making the playoffs about an eighty five percent clip
going three and oh. So it's there, and we've seen
Zach do this adjust on the fly. And it was
Brian Callahan last time, but Dan Pitchers is certainly capable too.
I think you give them more time to work with
Jake Browning and kind of redevelop this offense as opposed
to just having to throw it all in in the
(05:55):
last few weeks of twenty twenty three. I really do
think that they I don't know that they can be
a better offense, but they can certainly be a good
enough offense. They can offset whatever shortcomings they have on
defense and win games and beat in the mix, get
back in that ten and seven range and try to
fight their way into the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Jay, awesome stuff at a new time.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Thank you as always, all right, Thanks Bo.
