Speaker 1 (00:00):
In fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's sports station.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Yeah, there you go. What's up at Brener Malegger ESPN
fifteen thirty. Thank you for listening. Means the world to me.
Thrilled that you're here. We are loaded today and I
say that some days I and I really don't mean it. Today,
I mean it's our last show of the week. We're
gonna go to Charlotte at the four o'clock hour. Bengals
play there on Sunday in a game you'll hear live
(00:27):
on ESPN fifteen thirty. Bengals Panthers Burrow versus Dalton. Here
we go. Uh later on this hour, Lee Sterling makes
us some money on college and pro football and our
buddy Chad Brendel. I don't have to ask Chad today
when the entire UC men's basketball schedule is coming out,
because it came out today, Big Twell schedule is out,
(00:49):
So the Bearcats basketball schedule is out, and so I
don't have to ask Chad about it. But maybe we
can talk about it. Perhaps we will see a show
today is a service of our friends at Orthos since
the Orthopedic Sports Medicine will chat with one of the
experts from Orthos since he at five thirty three about
a couple of different injury issues, one Trent Brown, one
Brandon Williamson, and one an interesting NFL player injury that
(01:15):
a current member of a Bengal rival is dealing with.
Show previews available on x thanks to Emory Federal Credit
Union Your credit Union with Heart since nineteen thirty nine.
Go to Emory FCU dot org. So I'm looking at
Kelsey Conway, covers the team for The Inquirer. I'm looking
at her twitter feed. She reports Jamar Chase's dress for
(01:37):
practice after popping up on the injury report yesterday with
a shoulder injury. She reports that she does not see
Trey Hendrickson, who did not practice yesterday with an illness.
I am a talk radio host, which means I have
that sort of built in skepticism gene where I've got
(01:57):
to automatically question whether there's more than what meets the
eye with pretty much everything.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Now.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
I'm not conspiratorial. I think conspiracy people are kind of annoying.
Not a conspiracy guy. I have a hard time and
I saw this a lot last night HERD. I have
a hard time with most things. I have a hard
time when I see that a player is injured, I
have a hard time questioning the validity of the injury.
(02:25):
Now I know Jamar Chase and the Bengals are at odds,
at least to a degree when it comes to the contract.
I understand he just did a hold in. I'm sorry, man,
I can't. I have a hard time going there. I
have a hard time going there until the player really
gives me reason to believe that he's not hurt or
that he's faking it it. T Higgins got mad about this,
(02:47):
and I don't blame him, and I don't know if
Jamar Chase even knows that that's out there, But I
just I can't. If this is where your brain goes,
that's fine. I can't go there. I couldn't go there
with Ta I'm not going to go there with Jamar
and for what it's worth, because he did request the
trade back in April. I'm not going to go there
with Trey Hendrickson as well. Back in June, July, August,
(03:14):
probably even May, perhaps even in early September, I said
into this microphone often the following that if Joe Burrow
played sixteen or seventeen games, I cannot imagine this team
misses the playoffs. Now, I didn't say if Joe Burrow
(03:36):
plays sixteen or seventeen games that the Bengals are going
to win the super Bowl or be the one seed
or win the division. But my take was, if Joe
Burrow plays a full season, sixteen seventeen games, and I'm
building in you know, maybe he has to miss one,
or maybe there's a game that doesn't mean anything so
he doesn't play. But if he plays a full season,
(03:58):
you cannot convince me that the Bengals will miss the playoffs.
I said this on multiple occasions, just talking about the
outlook for the upcoming season, and anytime I said that,
it went unchallenged. Like there are times where I will
say things and I can feel and hear and read
(04:19):
the pushback, I got none. Again, I didn't set the
bar that high. I also had history on my side
because prior to this year, every time Joe did play
a full season's where the games, the Bengals made the
playoffs and won the division. In fact, they went to
the AFC Championship game. I didn't say they're gonna do that.
I didn't say they're gonna win the AFC North I said,
(04:42):
every time Joe Burrow goes through a full season, they
make the playoffs at the very least. So they're gonna
make the playoffs this year as long as he plays
a full season. Now, if he doesn't, if it's like
last year, if he has to miss a large chunk
of time, then all bets are off. So here we are,
they've played three games. We're still waiting for their first win.
The Bengals are. I don't like to say a long shot,
(05:03):
because there are still fifteen weeks of this season remaining,
and the Bengals do have fourteen games, but the odds
of them making the postseason are not in their favor.
History is obviously not on their side. And I hated
to a degree that Tara and I were talking about
this before the show, and we were discussing whether or
not nine wins could get them in, and it's maybe
(05:26):
probably gonna be a tiebreaker involved, like we're already doing
that in September, wondering if they can just sort of
sneak in skate by. That's not what this season was
supposed to be about. The season for me, at least,
was supposed to be about winning the division and being
the one seed, getting a bye, skipping a playoff game,
and being as well positioned to win the Super Bowl
(05:50):
going into the playoffs as they've been in the franchise's history. Well,
let's be honest, I don't know that we're gonna spend
it anytime talking about the Bengals being the one seed.
We probably shouldn't be talking about the Bengals really doing
anything in January until they win a football game four
and a half point point favorites on Sunday. But it's
it's remarkable we've gone from I think it's all agreeing
(06:15):
because I couldn't find any pushback as long as Joe
plays a full year, they're going to be a playoff team,
to now assuming that he will play a full season,
and in most cases, believing they're not going to be
a playoff team, and and that that that's that's that's
(06:36):
maybe not what you want. It maybe isn't the the
eventual outcome, but it's but it's certainly right now a
distinct possibility. They're own free, Joe is getting better. The
offense clicked on Monday, and so maybe those things for
(06:58):
tell if you will success. And they jump back to
five hundred and a month and a half from now,
we're laughing at the oh to three start, But as
of today, the odds of them making the postseason are
pretty long. It means I think you have to ask
a question here, what if this team stinks? Not what
(07:22):
if this quarterback stinks? What if this team stinks? Now,
I still believe that at the quarterback that I saw
on Monday shows up for the overwhelming majority of the
next fourteen games, this team is going to be in
the hunt. At least. I'm still to a degree where
(07:42):
I was during the offseason that if if Joe Burrow plays,
let's say he plays every game between now and Thanksgiving up,
I can't imagine that the month of December is going
to begin and the Bengals are like completely and totally
out of it. But until they win a game, and
maybe until they get back to five hundred, I guess
to at least deal with the possibility that Joe may
(08:02):
play all the games and this team is on the
outside looking in. And if that happens, then what like
then what with this franchise? Then what with this coaching staff?
Then what with this roster? Then what with Joe and
how he feels about the team that he's playing for.
(08:24):
And I didn't think that would be something we would
be dealing with in September. That's not something that I
thought we'd be asking ourselves if we believe the Joe
is going to play a full season right now, He's
you know, obviously a lot of football to go. They're
owing three with Joe. He has played well in one
of the games, good enough in another one of the games,
and then in the first game he was terrible. They're
(08:46):
ow and three with Joe Burrow, which means it can't
be that far fetched to think about them being seven
and ten with Joe Burrow, or five and twelve or
six and eleven, or at least not playing beyond the
final regular season game. You know, the the four years
(09:12):
that Joe has been the quarterback in two of them,
the two years where they haven't made the playoffs, there's
been no other story that mattered beyond does does Joe
get healthy and he's he going to be okay? And
both instances, the answers were, yes, what's going to sound
like if Joe is healthy at the end of the year.
Joe's played fine at the end of the year, Joe's
(09:32):
not going anywhere at the end of the year, and
the team is on the outside looking in when the
postseason begins. Quarter after three phone numbers are five one, three, seven,

Lots of Bengal stuff to get to today. The Reds
lost last night, which fine, who cares? But the Cleveland
(10:14):
Guardian social media account a handful of other baseball social
media accounts not happy with something TJ. Friedel did last night.
We'll spend a few minutes on it when we come back.
On ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
Station, Cincinnati's esp HI.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
It's twenty three after three o'clock. Hand links and traffick
and continuity over here. I'm Mullegor. This is ESPN fifteen thirty.
It's the Ortho Cincymulleger Show. So uh we'll get back
to the Bengals here in a bit. I was I
was in the middle of typing out the the poll
(10:58):
question we throw out there on courtesy of our friends
at United Harlan Insurance, and I got interrupted by having
to be a traffic manager radio term. RADS lost last night.
So with three games to go, they have a run
differential of plus six and I know the players. I'm
(11:22):
not sure folks know this. The players will get a
set of cuff links if they finished with a positive
run differential. And I don't know if there's going to
be a banner unveiled at Opening Day next year or not.
I don't know how that works. But up six three
to go off today in Chicago tomorrow. The reason I
(11:44):
bring up the Reds they in the game last night
is because it mattered, which it obviously did not, But
there was a moment in that game that generated on
the Internet at least some controversy. Although take that with
a grain of salt, because if you ever go on
the Internet, there's always something controversial. There's there's never a
non controversial moment on the Internet. Uh So, last night
(12:07):
TJ Pervetal, TJ Pervetal, TJ Friedel provided one in the
seventh inning. So the Guardians. The Guardians had a bullpen
game yesterday, and you could understand why they have bigger
fish to fry. They're going to the playoffs get their
first round. Good for them. So, uh, last night, in
the seventh inning, the Reds came to the plate and
(12:30):
they to that point, they hadn't gotten anybody on base.
So a combination to that point in the game of
four different Cleveland pitchers had thrown six perfect innings. In
the seventh inning in a two to nothing game, TJ.
Friedel came to the plate and successfully bunted for a hit. Now,
(12:55):
the Cleveland Guardians social media in turn, who's in charge
of the Cleveland Guardians social media account, wasn't happy about this,
and there were others online last night who were also
not happy about this. But I noticed it from the
Cleveland Guardian social media intern and I'll read this as
(13:20):
it was put out last night at Klee Guardians breaking
up a perfect game through six on a bunt Kentucky
Reds behavior. That's what the Cleveland Guardian social media in
turn wrote. Now, first of all, I need someone to
explain to me why quote Kentucky Reds is some sort
of slap. As a native Kentuckian, I don't live in Kentucky,
(13:45):
but as a native Kentucky and am I supposed to
be offended by that? As a Reds fan? Am I
supposed to be offended by that? There's lots of things
about being a Reds fan that are pretty offensive. Right now,
I'm not sure that's one of them, but the Cleveland
Guardian social media intern apparently thought so. The thing though
about breaking up a perfect game. Couple of things about this.
Number one. Look, there's a difference between a pitcher throwing
(14:10):
a perfect game on his own, like Tom Browning in
nineteen eighty eight, go in the distance all nine innings.
That's an awesome individual feat a team doing it with
five or six or seven different pitchers is neat. It's
not a totally insignificant accomplishment. Let's not pretend that it's
(14:33):
anywhere close to a pitcher pitching nine perfect innings. It ain't.
Number two.
Speaker 5 (14:42):
TJ.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Friedle's trying to win the baseball game. Now. The Reds
are out of it mathematically, they've been realistically out of
it for months, but they're playing the game. They're keeping score. TJ.
Freedle's trying to win. That's a winning play, trying to
get on base top of the seventh inning. It's a
two run game. It's not ten zip. It's not thirteen
to two, two to nothing, and the time runs on deck.
(15:03):
It's the seventh thing. He's trying to do something to
help his team. His obligation is to his team. His
obligation isn't to the Cleveland Guardians or the Cleveland Guardians
social media. In turn, he has no obligation to the
other team. He has no obligation to the pitcher who
(15:25):
was on the mound at the time last night is
a guide by the name of Tim Herron from Tera Hope,
has the same initials as his hometown.
Speaker 6 (15:37):
TJ.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Friedel's obligation isn't to Tim Herron or any of the
pitchers who came before him, not to the fans in
attendance there at whatever they call that ballpark the Guardians
play in. His obligation is to his team to try
to win the game. Why am I wrong about this?
And I got yelled at by Guardians fans on social
(15:59):
media last night, which okay, I'm wondering if they were
equally mad on September the twenty seventh, twenty fifteen, when
Francisco Lindor, playing for the then Indians, broke up a
no hit bid against Ryan Madsen, Red's legend leading off
(16:19):
the seventh inning in a game that meant nothing mathematically
to either team. Same exact, exact, same circumstances here, game
that didn't mean anything. Royal's bullpen working on a no
hitter knew nothing. Game Now the quote here from Terry
(16:40):
francona Hall of famer maybe one day future Reds manager, quote,
We're not trying to break up a no hitter. We're
trying to win the game. If they have issues with it,
they can take it up with me. By the way,
the manager of the Royals had no qualms with it,
Ned Yost, So was it? Is it something wrong when
(17:05):
the then Indians did it? I would love to teary
I see if you can get the Cleveland Guardians social
media in turn on with this, and we could explain
number one why quote Kentucky Reds is something that I'm
supposed to be offended by or feel like I'm being
made fun of. At number two, what's wrong with a
(17:28):
major league baseball player playing a game and trying to
win it. Why do we believe that TJ. Friedel's obligation
is to the other team. I know there are unwritten rules,
and like, it's one thing if it's ten zip, okay, dude,
swing away. I understand that it's something else. Maybe if
(17:50):
it's a pitcher who's gone six and now he's into
this seth. By the way, it's a major difference between
a guy throwing a perfect game in the seventh and
in the ninth it's two nothing game. I wouldn't have
any issue with it. If it was the starting pitcher
who had gone the distance. I wouldn't have any issue
with it. If it was in the ninth inning, do
nothing ball game. We're a bunt and a blast away
(18:11):
from tying it. You could laugh at the Reds. You
could say, well, it's stupid, they're not in it. You
still want them to try to do their best, right,
you still want them, Like the whole construct of professional
sports goes away if we just go, well, hey, they're
out of it, so don't try to win. I'd love
(18:32):
to hear from a Guardian's fan. Look, man, this is fun.
We're talking about your good team instead of your quarterback
who hasn't been sued in a week. So that's kind
of cool. It's neat. And what's what the whole Kentucky
Reds thing? Has anybody who's ever done that, has said
that or tried to make that funny? Have they ever
(18:53):
been to Kentucky? I think it's a beautiful place.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
Anyway.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
At Kleegue Guardians not happy with the bunt, not happy
with a professional baseball player, major League Baseball player in
a two run game trying to win. Maybe somebody can
help me understand Lee Sterling can help us win some money.

their final off day of year, or maybe not. Maybe
Fred of Beetie Freddie Bennavide is because everybody wants a
manager who yells at the players. Maybe the Reds are
spending their off day being yelled at by the interim manager.
I don't know. They play the Cubs tomorrow, final series
of the season tomorrow afternoon, and FC Cincinnati getting said
(20:14):
for a US Open Cup winner LAFC this weekend. That
match is going to be on Saturday. All right, let's
try to make some money. Our guy, Lee Sterling, Paramount Sports,
Paramount Sports dot Com on x at Paramount Sports. How
are we doing, sir, good?
Speaker 5 (20:29):
Well, you really think that interim managers are gonna yell
at players?
Speaker 2 (20:36):
I was told though this week the David Bell he
didn't yell at the players enough. And you know they
lost the two games since they let go of David Bell.
And so I'm led to believe, since they let David
Bell go because he doesn't yell enough, that the new
guy's yelling at the players today.
Speaker 5 (20:52):
I doubt that too, But usually that first game that
the manager gets fired, they usually win. You know that
betting angle.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Yeah, I do. Didn't help us out on but.
Speaker 5 (21:03):
They usually don't fire him a couple you know. A
week before the season. That was kind of weird.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
It was stupid, all right, Lee, Let's try to make
some not stupid decisions on pro and college football's let's
start with college. My bear Cat's a shutout over Houston
on Saturday. Now they go on the road. They are
three point dogs against Texas Tech.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (21:23):
Tech had a fourteen nothing first quarter lead in the
game last week against Arizona State and was able to
lure them away from running the football. That's key here.
The Cincinnati d probably isn't quite as good as the
thirty four to nothing score would indicate versus Houston. But
the Tech quarterback Barons Morton, I don't think he's going
(21:46):
anywhere special with his legs. Here are a lot of
injuries here for Tech at the wide receiver position, defensive end,
and linebackers. Even one of their top cornerbacks here, Huan
came favored. Cincinnati wins the game outright in a thriller
thirty three thirty road dogs.
Speaker 9 (22:03):
Hell.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
I love it, all right. Speaking of dogs, Alabama a
home underdogs for the first time in seventeen years. They're
getting two against Georgia.
Speaker 5 (22:13):
So there's a lot of talent on the this game,
and that's why we love watching these two teams go
at A great quarterback for Carson Back top five pick probably,
and then you've got Jaln Milwell his dual threat capabilities
or I mean off the charts, a bunch of good
running backs on both sides. I think it might come
down to one big play. And if it does, I
(22:35):
think Alabama's true freshman Ryan Williams, who reclassified should still
be in high school ten catches and already four touchdowns,
he might be that guy. I thought that Dominic Lovett
was going to step up into the fray after Brock
Bowers and Lad McConkey left, but so far has not
reached the end zone here and the home team. When
(22:56):
two top twenty five teams, top five teams matchup, home
team seventeen out of twenty seven wins here wrong team favorite. Also,
I like Alabama twenty seven to twenty five.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
All right, we're on the same page. Lee Sterling Paramount
Sports the OH to three Bengals. If you would have
told me back in late August one of these two
teams is going to be OH to three Week four,
I would not have said the Cincinnati Bengals. And yet
here we are against Andy Dalton. Joe Burrow and company
are a four point favorite. Who do we like so.
Speaker 5 (23:28):
Outside? I mean, this is right there with my team,
the Titans and Dolphins. One of those games. Just I mean,
it's not going to be anything exciting, but I still
think Cincinnati's offense is going to have a lot of success.
Panthers have given up over thirty one points per game
on defense. They were lit up by Derek Carr opening
week here. I think Joe Burrow much better than car here.
(23:50):
And also Carolina is missing their best defensive player, Derek Brown,
defensive lineman. He's out for the season. Here, Pantherers have
lost seventeen last twenty games. Here, defense is terrible. Carolina
ranks with New England two of the worst teams in
the NFL. Here, desperate Bengals get it done. Thirty one
seventeen All.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
Right, Lee Sterling Paramount Sports Free Player of the Week.

Chad Brendle on the Bearcats. Next downy Rinse and refreshed
gree DSPN fifteen thirty on Oeger. Chad Brendle's here because
(25:22):
it's Thursday, here's the good news for like six weeks
from early to mid August through right around this time year,
I badgered Chad by asking him when the UC basketball
schedule is gonna come out? Well, about an hour and
fifty minutes ago it came out, so I can cross
that off the list. Hi, Chad.
Speaker 9 (25:42):
I called Brett or Mark, thank you, and I was like,
can we can we do it at four o'clock? So
then when both says do you know when the schedule
is going to come out? I could be like ten minutes, Yeah,
it'll be on ten minutes mouth, but he turned down.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
My understand he's a lot going on. You want my
takeaway from the schedule, Sure, it's really hard, you know
what me.
Speaker 9 (26:08):
That there's a one month stretch in there that they
can it's gonna be. It's hard. It's hard. It's like
going to love. It's hard. There's a one month stretch
in there where I think they can get some momentum
like the beginning the first four games, are you kidding me?
And then at the end you get Iowa State, TCU, Baylor, Houston,
(26:29):
Kansas State kind of all in a bunch there at
the end. But I mean that middle from January fifteenth
to you know, roughly February eleventh, Like, there's a lot
of winnable games in there. If this team's as good
as we think it should be.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
I just don't want to be on the bubble. I
don't want to be on the bubble in late February
when I look at who they have coming down the stretch,
I agree.
Speaker 9 (26:55):
I mean some of that's going to come down to
do you need to be really good in the non conference.
The schedule is a little bit better this year to
support that. And then what do you do in those
first four games? Because look for the people that don't know,
first four games at Kansas State January fourth, home against Arizona,
(27:16):
January seventh, At Baylor January eleventh, home against Kansas. So
there's supposed to be five top fifteen level teams in
the Big twelve, you play three of them in a week.
If you can come out of that two and two,
Like you know, we talked about last year, a lot
the math wasn't mathing right. You got to protect home court,
(27:36):
and if you protect home court, you're going to be
in a pretty good shape in this league. It would
be pretty damaging to start own two at home, even
though it's Arizona and Kansas.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
Right, yeah, well we'll see. I'd like i'd the very
I couldn't. I looked at I looked at for the
first thirteen days in Big twelve play and I was, oh, boy,
don't see uh. I don't see a Tulsa or an
Ecu on there.
Speaker 9 (28:03):
So Colorado is not gonna be I mean, they're they're
they lost a lot. Arizona State, we don't know about
b y U and Utah in West Virginia has an
entire new roster. They do not have a single returning
player UCF and then b YU and Utah at home.
Like you know, that's a that's a stretch where you
(28:25):
can win some games.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
I think, all right, all right, you're getting you making
me feel good about it. This is what I like.
Uh are the Bearcat football team? Are they like good?
Speaker 9 (28:36):
It's funny. I asked Tony that exact question on the
sideline in the fourth quarter against Houston, and Tony are
these guys good? And Tony said, they've played one bad quarter.
You know, I think this week is kind of where
we start to find out the answer to that question.
Miami's Miami can't run the ball. Their offense is not good.
(28:58):
Houston couldn't throw the ball. Their offense is not good.
So the defense did what you wanted to see them
do against both of those teams, which was controlled the
game for the most part. Texas, tex is a different animal.
They can throw it. They've got a monster of a
running back that's six two and thirty pounds in TODs Brooks,
(29:19):
not to be confused with TODs Ward. TODs Brooks is
very very good, averaging like ninety ninety five yards a
game so far this season. So we're gonna find out
a lot about the defense Saturday night. The offense, the
offense is good, like the pieces are there. You have
(29:40):
a good offensive line, you have a really good number
one receiver, a really good NFL level tight end, you
have a great college running back and Corey Kiner, like
those are the ingredients. And then Brendan Soursby, I think,
would you say he's been better, even better, maybe a
little bit than you expected.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
Far better than I expected I expected. Look, I thought
he could throw it him just looking the part, he
looks like a seasoned big twelve quarterback. Like seasoned. I mean,
you're you're around the program all the time, but I was.
I think I mentioned this on the air, but I
was having a conversation with somebody on Tuesday in the
Lenders Center who's like, like this, this dude just gets it,
(30:23):
Like he treats this like a job. He treats this
like he's a pro quarterback. And you know, we can
make all the jokes about these guys being pros right now,
but he's like, you know what you what you see
on game day is a reflection of like, this guy
gets it. He gets what the job is all about.
He gets the leadership, he understands like setting the tone
like he's he just gets it, and it's it's refreshing
(30:44):
to hear. So you add that to what you're watching,
which what I'm watching is above and beyond what I
thought I would be seeing in September. It's it's been,
it's been really something to behold.
Speaker 9 (30:56):
He's exactly what you think of when you think power
five level quarterback. Yeah, I think that's the best way
I could describe it. He can make the throws, he
can read the defense like he doesn't get sped up.
I think like that. You know, I said this last
night on the bcjpod. When I think back to Emery Jones,
it was like his head was on a swivel, right,
(31:16):
Like when you watch Brendan Soresby go through his progressions,
you can see his helmet like read the progression. Is
that guy open? Is this guy open? Is that guy open?
It's not like he's just like scanning them like haphazardly.
He is identifying, like is this the guy I'm gonna
throw the ball to or not? And that's how NFL
(31:39):
quarterbacks operate. I mean that's not to say he's an
NFL quarterback, but like he just has those those traits
and they put a lot of good pieces around him.
So I'm not entire like you know, it's it's gonna
be crazy. I still haven't found out that. The question
I want to know mo from from Lubbick is do
they throw corn or flour towards Pia.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
Try to get an answer for you.
Speaker 9 (32:05):
I suppose it's an important like you would think corn
tortillas are little, little less pliable than flower tortilla.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Correct, there's gonna be.
Speaker 9 (32:15):
Tortillas flying everywhere. The place is gonna be nuts. It's
gonna be a great test. But one thing I did
note like too of you know, Brendan Sorozby started seven
games at Indiana. His two best games were probably at
Penn State and at Illinois. Right, So this guy's gone
into tough environments and played pretty well. So I'm not
(32:37):
super worried that you're gonna like, you know, lose him
so to speak, because you're playing on the road.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
All right, I got like ninety seconds here. The thing
about the defense, and I've I've brought it up to
you every single week, all the discussion about the three
three five. Look, they're gonna get a significant test on Saturday,
I do think. And this was something we talked about
on the radio during the game, like you could see
see them getting it. You could see the light bulb
coming on, and they look are their deficiencies defensively, Yes,
(33:06):
they have injury issues whatever, But against Pittsburgh, I felt
like they were thinking. And then when you're thinking, you're
not reacting and you're a step slow. It feels like
they get the scheme. Doesn't mean it's a perfect defense,
it's not, but that goes a long way toward being
able to, I don't know, get stops in a game
like this and that's not something I was saying too
(33:26):
two three weeks ago.
Speaker 9 (33:28):
Yeah, again, Miami can't run, Houston's can't pass, So that
allows you to be a little more dialed in on
what you have to shut down. I'm interested to see
what it looks like against Texas Tech because they can
do both, and they can do both at a pretty
high level. So that's the next step is can they
(33:49):
shut off both facets because I think that's ultimately what
it got them in trouble against Pitt is they were
getting beat on the ground and then tried to adjust
to stop that, and then Pitt just kind of work
that area in between the linebackers and the defensive backs,
let their guys catch the ball with the head of steam,
and it resulted in a lot of big plays. Texas
(34:10):
Tech is going to be able to do that if
Cincinnati has to over commit to one or the other.
So they're playing better and that's without question with this defense.
And you know, the next thing for me, I need
to see the linebacker play continue because of that. The
one thing if you go back and look at Iowa
(34:30):
State their linebacker play during Tyson Bite's time, there was
dominant and that's what made that defense so good. I
think their Golday is starting to figure Jake Golda is
starting to figure out. I think figure it out. I
think Jared Bartlett has been very good. Simmey and Coleman
for a freshman has been improving every week. So as
(34:53):
that linebacker corps continues to grasp and grow in this
defense to better and better.
Speaker 5 (34:58):
I think it can be.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
You've got the show tomorrow from noon to three. We'll
be listening. Thanks so much, Thank.
Speaker 9 (35:05):
You, moo enjoy your Friday off, will.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
There you go?

Speaker 2 (35:25):
All right, we'll be there late for a break. My apologies,
so late to start the hour. My apologies. I don't
know how to read a clock. I've been I've been
doing this in this business for almost twenty seven years,
and I don't know how to read a clock that
doesn't count the time before I started working in this business.
Moeger the Ortho Sinci Moeger Show on ESPN fifteen thirty.
(35:47):
Jay Morrison is going to join us from the venue
originally known as Paul Brown Stadium, coming up at four twenty.
Dan Klaskins was some fantasy football advice at four forty five,
and a hypothetical that none of this ever, ever, ever,
ever want to actually confront coming up in a bit,
plus Brennanman and Jones on baseball. A lot to get
(36:08):
to this hour. The Bengals Joe Burrow has talked both
on Monday Night and yesterday about leadership and needing to
lead differently and needing to lead more, and that's been
a big theme this week, right. I am always a
little I don't know, I'm a little wary of narratives
(36:28):
that build solely based on outcomes, Like the Reds fired
David Bell, and you may think they should have, and
maybe the Reds are going to hire a manager who
is better equipped to lead and they win the World
Series with them. But David Bell, you know, you heard
Nick Caral talk about philosophical differences, which to me was about,
you know, the players weren't held accountable in public view
(36:51):
for a lot of the recurring mistakes and maybe had
they been, the recurring mistakes wouldn't be recurring mistakes. But
I'm also led to believe if David Bell's managery, philosophies
and the way he dealt with his players were exactly
the same, exactly the same, if the way he handled
mistakes were exactly the same, but they get a full
season of Matt McClain and Will Benson didn't turn into
(37:13):
a pumpkin who strikes out every other time, and they
just played better. Then I don't think it would be
well that David Bell doesn't yell enough. Reds could have
won eighty nine games, still been a bad base running team,
still had a lot of mistakes pop up frequently during
the season, and it would well, they have a guy
who's getting mad in the dugout and kicking helmets and stuff.
So like the Bengals, it's bad leadership.
Speaker 10 (37:35):
Right.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
Let me ask you a question. Let's say, let's say
fourth and sixteen against the Chiefs, there's no flag. Let's
say to John Anthony plays the ball exactly the same
way he did when he got flagged. And not that
we have to beat this to death anymore, but it
was the right call.
Speaker 5 (37:55):
But you know, it's a.
Speaker 2 (37:55):
Bang bang play. Let's say the flag is not prone.
Let's say the flag is thrown and then it's picked up,
which never makes any sense to me, And now Bengals
kneel down. Game over, they go to Kansas City and win.
Let's say that happened. Are we talking about Bengals leadership today.
Let's say that not only that happened. Let's say Jane
(38:18):
Daniels on third and seven, that dying that he dropped.
Let's say it gets bobbled. Let's say it doesn't get caught.
Let's say, for the sake of an example, that instead
of him being lauded for a great throw under duress
(38:39):
with the game hanging in the balance, let's say that
Terry mclaurin's big toe on his right foot lands out
of bounds and instead of a touchdown that put the
Commanders up by twelve, now they've got to attempt to kick,
(39:00):
and because of that, the Bengals then go on to
win the game. Maybe the field goal is missed, maybe
the game goes to overtime. Whatever it is those two
instances to are not those two plays. Let's just say
the outcome of those two plays different. Well, they have
at least one win, and they might have another, they
still would have had to come back. Are we hearing
about leadership? I'm gonna guess the answer is no. That
(39:25):
doesn't mean that it's easy to identify who the leaders are,
and not every veteran player is really equipped to lead.
I think it does take a special person, it takes
a different type of person, and then not everybody's wired
the same. Just because you know you've played for ten
years doesn't mean you have the capabilities or even the
(39:47):
willingness to lead your peers to lead others. So who knows?
I just I'm asking this, and I'm asking it. I
don't expect either of you or I to have the answer.
But like the theme since Monday Night has been, well,
they're kind of rudderless, they're sort of leaderless. Would they
be if those two plays turned out differently? I'm gonna
(40:10):
guess the answer is no. Tarorn asked me today, should
it be on Joe Burrow to you know, have to
have to lead in a different way? It shouldn't have
to be. But if you're gonna look for one person
in the organization to take it onto themselves to you know,
(40:32):
I do things a little bit differently in the locker
room and the meeting room in terms of how the
tone is being set. It should be Joe Burrow, like,
that's that's why I'm paying them twohundred and seventy million dollars. Man,
I mean, he plays the ultimate leadership position in sports,
and so yeah, I should it be on him? No,
but it should? Should it be on him if nobody
(40:55):
else will do it?
Speaker 5 (40:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (40:56):
But I just I wonder maybe I could bring this
up to Jay. I'll I'm a little bit I'm a
little bit leery of just jumping to this place that
we wouldn't jump to. If one or two small things
would have unfolded differently, I don't think we'd be talking
(41:19):
about the Bengals leadership. I think we'd still be discussing
some of their deficiencies. And frankly, I think that's the
bigger deal. We went into the season. I think most
of us believing they did not do enough to fix
a team that last season was terrible against the run
and by the way, against the run against Washington. Bigger
issue was Jade Daniels having, you know, all sorts of
(41:41):
time to throw. The bigger issue for me was dudes
being wide open in the middle of the field, not
so much the run defense, but it's still not good.
Is it not good because there's no leader or is
it not good because it wasn't good last year and
they had DJ Reader. I think sometimes the leader thing
(42:02):
is outsiders is something that we default to when we
don't want to admit that either the team's not that
good or a certain group of players aren't that good,
or that the team didn't do enough to make a
weakness of strength. And I think that's the biggest thing.
The team didn't do enough. Now, look, if they had
McKinley Jackson, that would help. If they had Chris Jenkins
at the start of the season, I guess that would help.
(42:22):
If they had rankins in Hill on Monday night, and okay,
that would help. But there are also a lot of
guys like you look at the pass ruders. There's no
pass rush to speak of. Is that because of lack
of leadership or is it because Miles Murphy is hurt
and they just simply aren't getting anything from a guy
in Sam Hubbard that you thought by now you could
count on. And then they whiffed on Joseph o'saigh. They
(42:46):
didn't go find anybody else to bolster their pass rush
on the edge. Again, these have been things that we
have talked about for a while. The Bengals have tried
to make their pass rush better on the edge for
a while, going back to the draft where they took
Miles Murphy. But they did they do enough this offseason.
(43:06):
I don't know how much of that's leadership. I don't know.
I'm admitting that I don't know, but I do think
that's a thing that we default to sometimes a little
bit too quickly. A quarter after four, our pole question

your insurance needs, United Heartland Insurance, has you covered home, auto, boat, motorcycle, life,

I knew what the results were going to be, but
I had to ask it anyway. The TJ fried ol
Bunt in the seventh inning where he's trying to help
his team win. The Cleveland Guardian social media in turns
not happy about it, and I don't I want the
social media intern with the Guardians to be happy. So
the Guardians social media in turn not happy about Freedo bunting.
(43:55):
It broke the sort of perfect game up seventh inning,
Reds came back and tied it and still lost it,
because that's how the season has gone. Does he or
she the Cleveland Guardian social media intern have a legitimate gripe?
Ninety point seven percent of you say no. I might
have another social media question coming up here in a bit,
but first, our buddy Jay Morrison from the venue originally
(44:16):
known as Paul Brown Stadium, next Ortho since Emoeger Show,
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station of.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
The Bengals, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (44:26):
Twenty three after four, This is ESPN fifteen thirty on
Jay Morrison's with US Pro Football Network covers the Bengals
on x at by Jay Morrison and joins us for
a few minutes. Every single Thursday. Is Jamar Chase back
in practice today?
Speaker 9 (44:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (44:46):
He was at practice. Normally, we get the injury at
four twenty right before I jump on with you there,
it's coming at four twenty five today. But Jamar did
practice today. He talked after practice like he normally does
on a Thursday. He said his shoulder is great, and
players never lie about those kind of things, so all
systems go. But seriously, it doesn't seem like that big
(45:09):
of a deal. If it was an issue, I'm guessing
he may not have wanted to talk today, but I
don't know for sure. To me, it looked like it
happened on that play in the low red zone when
he was trying to drag three guys into the end
zone and they're kind of holding him up and he
got popped a couple of times. But it doesn't seem
like it's going to be an issue for Sunday.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
Is it boring on the job now? Given the fact
that guys aren't going to be talking trash for a while.
Speaker 10 (45:34):
That's exactly what today was. They were all on their
best behavior. On the best behavior. Nobody wanted to do
anything on the bulletin board cam. Taylor Britt declined. He
said he had to get into the training room and
get some treatment. Jamar did talk, but he was very vanilla,
didn't have a whole lot to say. He was even
asked about the Carolina defense and he paused for a
little bit and then he kind of like decided he
(45:57):
didn't need to say what he wanted to say, and
was implementary of them. I think they all understand number one,
if Zach wasn't happy with Cam Taylor Brick's comments last week.
If they also understand the row and three and you
just can't you can't talk that talk when you row
and three go out, win a couple of games and
then they can get back to their personalities.
Speaker 2 (46:16):
Well, I'm in the content business, and so I disagree.
I think there should be more talking. I think I
think that somebody should have violated whatever Zach wanted to
do and said something interesting. But I don't get my wish.
Do you think this team, You know, there's been a
lot of talk, and this was I think it's a
natural byproduct of how the game unfolded in the oh
and three start, So we started talking a lot about leadership.
You've been around this team for for quite a while.
(46:37):
Do you think there's a leadership problem or a lack thereof?
Speaker 8 (46:42):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 10 (46:42):
It's hard to tell because we don't We don't see
those conversations or hear those conversations. You just see what's
going on out on the field. And I do think
there's a lack of a grab the team by the
throat type of guy. That's going to stand up and
give the fiery speeches. And you know, Burrow even said
that yesterday that that's not him. It's never been him,
it's not going to be him. He talked about how
(47:03):
great J. T. Barrett was at Ohio State when he
was there, and how how incredible his pregame speeches were.
I don't know if you need that. These guys are professionals.
You should get yourself ready to play. But when things
do go south, I do think he needs someone to
step up and pick their spots and you know, say
something in front of the team. If you're if your
Robert all the time, I think that wears thin and
(47:25):
it kind of gets the eye rolls. But when you're
someone like who Burrow does that. He picks his spots
and when he talks, people listen. But I think you've
got really good leaders on the seam. I just think
they're all the same kind of leader, and you don't
have the super vocal one. Maybe that's what's lacking.
Speaker 2 (47:44):
Is the defense fixable?
Speaker 5 (47:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (47:49):
I think it is. I think Lou has enough of
a track record that when you get some of these
guys back, it's going to look better. I don't know
how soon they're going to get d J. Hill or
Sheldon Rankins back. But you know, McKinley Jackson is eligible
to come back next week for Week five against Baltimore.
Miles Murphy's eligible. I don't know that that's gonna happen.
(48:11):
But they've got guys, you know, Lou call it the cavalry.
They got guys coming in and I think that's gonna
make a big difference. And you just wonder how healthy
Sam Hubbard really is. And last week we saw Cedric Johnson,
the sixth round pick. The rookie got ten snaps. He
he played pretty well his first his first snap, he
gets a tackle. His second snap, he kind of helps
(48:34):
a pass rush and they get a sack. He didn't
get the sack, but the team did so I think
you're going to see a lot more of him. It's
it's if D line is the issue. I think the
secondary is going to be fine. I think Jermaine Pratt
and and Wilson are fine as the linebackers, but the
D line is the big issue. They've got to get
more pressure. And you just when you look the way
it's constructed right now, you don't see where it's going
to come from besides Trey Hendrickson.
Speaker 2 (48:56):
You know you mentioned the secondary and yeah, you know,
if we're it was and blame we're starting up front.
It is. It's kind of striking how out of out
of favored Jordan Battle is. Why is that the case?
Speaker 10 (49:10):
I just think that it's it's Lou has said it before.
It's not a position where you're going to rotate guys.
And they brought von Bell here to fix the communication
issues and all the breakdown, and it always felt like
there was a chance that that von would come in
get things settled, and then you start maybe seeing Jordan
(49:34):
Battle push him for playing time and see the younger,
faster guy to kind of take over that role. Once
von got everything in place and the communication issues have
gotten better. But at zero to three, I just can't
see putting a young person, a young player or second
year player like Jordan Battle in there when Von Bell
(49:54):
really hasn't been the problem. He hasn't been great, but
he hasn't been the issue back there, and they they
need that traffic cop back there. They they've got to
keep that there, isn't it Like you said, there is
no pass rush, So it's more important on that back
end not to let breakdowns happen. And that's what farm
Bell was brought here for until until Jordan bal can
get on the field. I just I don't know. I
(50:17):
just don't see that happening yet. After the after halfway through,
maybe Jordan Bali gets some more playing time.
Speaker 2 (50:23):
Yeah, I know, there's only a chunk of practice that
you're allowed to see. Do we think they've worked at
all on stopping a tackle from catching a pass near
the goal line?
Speaker 10 (50:35):
Let's hope I actually looked this up. I mentioned it
on the podcast today. The NFL record for most six
six touchdowns allowed in the season is too. The Bengals
are currently tied for the NFL record. They got fourteen
games left to break it by allowing another one. Only
three teams have given up. I guess you say tackle
(50:55):
eligible big guy touchdowns in back to back weeks. So yeah,
I think they'll be looking for that if Carolina sends
in a tackle eligible suner.
Speaker 2 (51:04):
Wow. All right, even more drama than was already baked in.
Thank you as always, Jay, I appreciate it. All right,
good talking to you about Jay Morrison. Pro Football Network

really quick, and I've got like a lot of tabs
open our pole, questions about TJ. Friedle bunning for a
hit last night and the Guardian's sort of throwing a
perfect game. Steven Vote, who's a good manager and a
(53:14):
good job in year one, probably gonna be the manager
of the year. He had no problem with it because
as a baseball person, he understands the guy and the
other team was just trying to help his team win
the game to a nothing ball game. Although it is interesting,
it's not like all these folks on social media man
at me that like probably just found out the Guardians
(53:36):
are good. They're like, you know, I've got like Deshaun
Watson avatars and browns, you know stuff, and they're but
now they're Guardians fans sticking up for their social media intern.
I say social media intern because there's there's no way
that the Kentucky Rads thing that they tweeted out, there's
(53:56):
no way, like a professional like social media person put
that out there, Like, that's not something an adult comes
up with, right, had something else and I totally lost it.
Speaker 3 (54:09):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (54:09):
Dan Klaskin's coming up in just if you were going
to go to Charlotte in the five o'clock Ara about
an hour from now, talking about the Panthers who have
obviously the hand the rains over the rains are the
keys to the team. To Andy Dalton, Mike, you're on
ESPN fifteen three. Mike. I did my show the other
day from Buffalo Wild Wings in Hamilton yesterday and a
guy came up to me and said that he misses
(54:32):
your calls, and I said, well, well, what do you
mean is he just called last week? He goes you
haven't talked to Mike in a few days listens every
day hadn't heard your voice. So now you could satisfy
him by saying something on the radio.
Speaker 8 (54:44):
Well know how to make my day very much?
Speaker 2 (54:49):
What are you doing? What's going on?
Speaker 8 (54:51):
Well a lot, but nothing really wasn't. But anyway, my
story for the day is, Yeah, tr Tigers, Bernie and eleven,
best team in baseball last two months. Beat the Rays
again today. Came from behind some kind of shut down bullpen.
Speaker 3 (55:11):
Buddy.
Speaker 2 (55:12):
Yeah, uh, they're I think what they're The magic number
to clinch a playoff spot for them is now down
to two. They have been awesome here from about mid
August on. You know, the Reds went to Minnesota, what
about a week and a half, two weeks ago, and
I was doing the pregame show and I talked about
like the distance between Minnesota and the Tigers, And that
(55:33):
was just a couple of weeks ago, and there was
still a couple of games between them. The Twins have
not played very well at all, but the Tigers have
have completely taken advantage. Good for them. That is a
that is a good sort of old school baseball town.
Comerica Park is a cool place to see a game.
They're gonna have the American League Cy Young Award winner
(55:53):
in Tarique Scuoball. Their bullpen has been absolutely awesome. And
and by the way, they wrap up the season against
the White Sox, so they get three free wins at
the end if they have to play this weekend, which
they're gonna have to win at least one more game.
You're right in a very in a much more competitive division,
the American League Central. We're had only one team with
(56:13):
a winning record last year for this season and then
the White Sox.
Speaker 8 (56:18):
Yeah, it's it's been a very interesting, fun story. I
can't wait for the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (56:24):
It's funny though. I was having this conversation with somebody
this morning. The playoffs this year, right, there's no favorite.
I mean, like legitimately, it's it's it's it's always wide
open because it's baseball, and baseball, there's randomness and there's
a there's a wide openness to it. No one hundred
win team this year, which I think is the first
time since twenty fourteen. Every team has a flaw, Every
(56:49):
really good team has a flaw. I think you can
make a case for I think for four teams in
the National League to win the World Series. I think
you can make the case for probably four maybe five
in the American League to win the World Series. Now,
you know, we've seen teams come from the bottom of
the pack, and it is more likelihood have been happening
than ever before with the more with the expanded postseason.
(57:11):
But it feels it feels really wide open, which means
it should be in the month of October. A lot
of fun and.
Speaker 8 (57:19):
The Padres just right. I mean, what a great story
to Padres. Incredible story.
Speaker 2 (57:25):
Yeah, I've watched I've watched those games in LA the
last two nights. The Dodgers win last night, and there's
something about those games that's a lot of fun. San
Diego clinches a playoff spot on a game ending triple play.
Speaker 11 (57:43):
It's it's a drill, uh right now to change. I
feel like the Packers are the best team in the NFC,
and I don't think it's Splumps right now.
Speaker 2 (57:55):
You think the Packers right now, I'll tell you what.
I believe they have the best coach. I think they
might have the best the aside from Andy Reid, what
Matt Lafleur has done. The last couple of weeks. They
lose in Brazil and then succeeds with Malik Willis designs
perfect game plans for him. They may I mean the
(58:18):
Minnesota Vikings play Green Bay this week. The bloom has
kind of falling off the Saints because of what happened
last week. I'm still really bullish on the Seahawks because
I like Mike McDonald, there are weapons for Gino Smith
to throw to. You know, they've they've gotten. They've gotten
by so far with the pretty easy trio of quarterbacks
and Knicks and Brissett and Skyler Thompson. It's gonna change
(58:41):
this week when they play at Detroit. But yeah, I'm
with you on Green Bay to the degree that I
think Matt lafleur Is is awesome to have to to
be able to let the offense function with a guy
in Malik Willis the way it did, who like just
got there, I think is pretty awesome.
Speaker 8 (59:04):
Kind of a no name team. I mean, I talked
to five guys today. They couldn't tell me anybody who's
gone Packer.
Speaker 2 (59:10):
Well, you know what's interesting is that, you know, last
year in the postseason, they had the youngest playoff team
in the history of the league, and so you know,
they they go to Dallas, hung forty eight on. The
Cowboys played great, and I think it was shocking to
people because, on one hand, everybody knows all the stars
on Dallas. On the other hand, not everybody. I'm not
(59:32):
sure a lot of people know all that much about
Jordan Love, and obviously, you know he was awesome in
that game. I'm not sure there's a lot of people
who could tell you much about just the primary skilled
players for the Green Bay Packers, much less some of
the dudes they have on defense. Mike, it's good to
hear your voice. But I got a run man, Okay, thanks,
all right. Our guy, Dan Klaskins gets sports Info Fantasy
football help. Next this is with us. I help with
(59:56):
our fantasy football teams.
Speaker 9 (01:00:00):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
He's get sportsinfo dot com and he joins us every
single Thursday and he's on x at Dan Glaskins. He's
here now, Hi, Dan?
Speaker 3 (01:00:09):
What's going on? Probably doing today was I.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
Was literally pulling up my lineup as the music came on,
because you know, I might need some help. I don't know.
I'm free and oh in one league one and two
in the other.
Speaker 3 (01:00:21):
Oh. Well, he's got to keep grinding right there. There's
a lot of Uh, I've been a whacking football season,
So no matter how good or bad it's going.
Speaker 12 (01:00:29):
For anybody's teams up there, it's probably going to change,
that's for sure. And I think we just keep grinding
one game at.
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
A time, keep grinding one game, one matchup at a time.
The key, as you know in life but also in
fantasy football four weeks in is to not panic.
Speaker 12 (01:00:43):
Correct, That's exactly right, and we foured a normal time
for me to give this annual PSA out there the
fantasy managers here. I mean, yet, not every one three
is the same, Not every three and that is the same.
I really feel like the first thing understand is how
many teams make them playoffs in leagues, because it's a
(01:01:03):
different answer if it's four in a twelve team league
or six or maybe even sudden league with eight. I
can depend on how much you're in trouble. Obviously, mo,
if you're zero and three and your third in the
league and scoring it you can't stand luck doesn't mean
your team stink, so you don't need to blow it up.
Or conversely, if the other way around, your three to
zero and just squeak it by it lucky ways. You know,
you always want to find ways to improve your team,
(01:01:25):
regardless of record. Definitely for me, I think it's not
necessarily time to panic, but you have to be realistic
and if you've got to start making the trades, they're
getting aggressive with your pre agent option budgets or whatever
it is. It's all going to be based off of
your individual scenario.
Speaker 5 (01:01:42):
There.
Speaker 2 (01:01:42):
All right, let's run through the list of Week five
injuries worth thing attention to.
Speaker 3 (01:01:48):
Yeah, not all banned news this week. A lot of
things are going to.
Speaker 12 (01:01:51):
Be tracking all the way Friday and the kick off
with start a quarterback Jordan Love mcl it could come
down to a game time decision. A big matchup here
for the Packers the Viking Green Bay, and it was
in a couple of games in the league. Will said
won't be able to do that this week against Minnesota.
Love almost returned next week. I'm leaning towards him playing,
but you might not be at one hundred percent. Let's
keep that in mind. Justin Herbert, he shouldn't play. Whether
(01:02:13):
he does or not remain to be seen. High ankle
spring didn't finish last week's game. Regardless, I'm not touching
him in fantasy this week at the running back position.
We'll keep our eyes on several situations. We do have
some clarity on a few, but Nazi Harris looks like
he's going to play for the Steelers with an arm issue.
I don't expect Jamalin Warren to play this week in
parass longer with his knee injuries, so Harris should get
a nice workload. Look for Corderyl Patterson to get involved.
(01:02:36):
I'm not really banking on him.
Speaker 3 (01:02:37):
And fantasy, but Aris is an RB two.
Speaker 12 (01:02:39):
I'm crossing my fingers we can get Kenneth Walker in
a third back from his and Deman issue. I'm sure
people using Jack sharbon and are.
Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
Hoping for the same thing.
Speaker 12 (01:02:46):
Though Sharpon has been pretty effective. He does return well.
Walker Sharvion Ay does get relegated back down. We know
alsin Echo has already been ruled out. It to be
because of Monday nights game versus the Tangles. And I
can tell you that both Joe Nixon and Damian peersonithspractice
again today for the Texans, trending towards another cam Acres
week there in Houston. I also know that Houston's going
(01:03:07):
to be without their receiver Tank Dell.
Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
He's deal with the risen risk issue. He's going to
miss this week.
Speaker 12 (01:03:13):
Taction and know I'm expecting both Aj Brown but this hamstring,
who hasn't put now in a couple of weeks. And
Devonte Smith who's suffered a concussion of the zone in
week number three to boath.
Speaker 3 (01:03:23):
Sit out week four because the Eagles, I'm.
Speaker 12 (01:03:26):
A bye next week. We'll be talking about bie weeks
next week mode. But with the extra week there, look
for both these guys the rest and that is trouble
for Philadelphia's passing attack. But build this lean on sa
Kuon Barkley. Other receiver issues we know Keenan Allen's working
his way back from a heel issue, training in the
right direction after back to back limited participations and DeVos
Amul just before I came on the air here I
(01:03:47):
saw on Twitter he was seen in padded Thursday's practice,
which is a positive step in.
Speaker 3 (01:03:52):
The right directions. He deals with the caf ISSUHO courses.
Speaker 12 (01:03:55):
His teammate George Kittle at tight end.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
Also missed last week. She's training in.
Speaker 12 (01:03:59):
The right direction to be limited yesterday with his hamstring issue.
Samaporta has yet to practice with an ankle injury for
the Lions. He's been pretty dismal this season and trending
towards not playing here this week. I don't expect Tree
McBride to clear concussion protocols and no more on that situation.
Speaker 3 (01:04:14):
Apart, but one silver lining in tight end.
Speaker 12 (01:04:17):
David and Joku of the Browns, the guy that I
thought was the back end starting fantasy tight end entering
the season practice today for the first time since sustaining
his ankle.
Speaker 3 (01:04:25):
Injury in Week one.
Speaker 12 (01:04:27):
It couldn't be in a return from him in the
lineup this week, which would be a welcome addition for
a position that's just been a wasteland for fantasy owners
that they're trying to figure out what to do with
tight end.
Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
Yeah, I'm a David and Joku owner, so I can relate,
all right, Dan Klaskins, get sports Info dot Com. I
need a stud. I need two studs, two dozens, two
and two sleepers.
Speaker 4 (01:04:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (01:04:49):
Well, maybe the studs are a little late here from
what we saw last week with Jaydan Daniels demo, I
don't know if quite see as perfect as it was
against the on Monday night, but I am really high
on him again this week He's in my top five.
Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
It's Washington Arizona. It's the highest total week.
Speaker 12 (01:05:07):
Kyler Murray my number one quarterback and making this week
Daniels at number five at rushing floor just really makes
him an appealing player. If he can throw the deep
ball gets even better. I love me some James Cook.
He's emerging a top ten tight end. I'm not going
to be worried about him versus Baltimore's defense. It is
going to be a great game to watch.
Speaker 3 (01:05:25):
On Sunday night.
Speaker 12 (01:05:25):
But I think Cook is still the guy that squarely
in my top ten based up volume alone.
Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
I like the way that he's.
Speaker 12 (01:05:31):
Him at the resident On the dud side of it,
I'm not going to cut Anthony Richardson, but in a
couple of season on the leagues where I have and
I am bentioning this week, and it's not just because
he's playing the Steelers. I mean, that's not the greatest
of matchups, but he's got to play his way.
Speaker 3 (01:05:44):
Back into my mind.
Speaker 12 (01:05:45):
If I drafted this guy thinking he was going to
rush for eighty yards and a touchdown every week, but
right now o Nicks has better rushing numbers and He's
not even in the top six or seven rushing quarterback
and he can't throw football, so that's not spelling good things.
And if Kay Adams, I don't know, I mean it's
going to be hard to sitting in SUNLIGHTNS.
Speaker 3 (01:06:02):
I get it. But he's the lowest he's been running
dull season my.
Speaker 12 (01:06:05):
Rankings outside my top twenty four. This week, I'm starting
to question his desire to play football and play.
Speaker 3 (01:06:10):
For the Raiders.
Speaker 12 (01:06:12):
Match up versus Leland's not great. There's questions about the quarterback.
So I'm just really down him this week. And then Sleepers,
I'm going.
Speaker 10 (01:06:20):
To go with shup Hubbard.
Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
It's not rocket tyas and maybe we've all been watching
the Bengals.
Speaker 12 (01:06:24):
I'm going to play every running back versus the Bengals
until they can top point bow and Chowpa. Hubbard had
a really good last week. I think this is for
the people that had another team, maybe one of the
last weeks to row him out there because the rookie
sensation Jonathan Brokes I feel.
Speaker 3 (01:06:37):
Will be activated the next week or two here, So.
Speaker 12 (01:06:40):
Row him out and Jerry Judy if you're desperate, He's
given enough targets, not the Cleveland passing attacks been great,
but the targets are pretty funneled to Judy and Cooper,
who's a little banked up.
Speaker 3 (01:06:50):
I think Judi's a.
Speaker 12 (01:06:51):
Back end, sneaky wide receiver three here against the Las
Vegas team that might be playing about their top pass rusher,
Max Crosby is dealing with the high ankle injury of
his own.
Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
Get sportsinfo dot com. What's new?

I have for this business and that I love sports

in this building. But there are a handful of towns
where I just think they have awesome shows. And one
of my I'd say three favorites is done in Charlotte.
And so one of my favorite hosts is going to
join us at five forty five to talk about the Panthers.
I need to mention a couple of things here very
very quickly. Jamar Chase practice today, which is awesome. Trey
(01:08:38):
Hendrickson and Nogo for a second straight day. Same for
Rankins and Hill. I'm just going to count on those
guys not being available. The good news is Jamar Chase
back and so we can stop wondering. I'm not whether
or not he's actually dealing with any sort of shoulder soreness.
The game on Sunday on ESPN fifteen thirty if you
want to watch it. We're hanging out at to Smoke

Justice and Covington on Sunday games at one. I get
there about noon. I'll have prizes in tow some cool stuff.
And if you haven't eaten It'smoked Justice, you're missing out.
If you haven't checked out the bourbon selection, it's Smoked Justice,
you're missing out. Or just get a nice cold bud
like We will see you there on Sunday at least,
I hope. I have one other thing. We have a
(01:09:21):
two pow up questions. I added another one is about
the DJ Friedel bunt last night, which obviously nobody had
a problem with because it was fine. The other I'm
watching the Oakland A's and Texas Rangers. This is the
Oakland A's last game in Oakland. As the A's, it's
a last game in the Oakland Coliseum, a storied franchise,
and the A's are a storied franchise. Only two teams
(01:09:41):
have won more World Series and one of the most
colorful franchises, and a franchise that if you're my age,
A lot of people talk about the A's in the seventies.
I'm too young to have remembered that. I remember what
it was like eighty eight, eighty nine, ninety like a
lot of people like the A's. A lot of people
like the A's and had really fun, colorful teams. They're leaving.
They're going to Sacramento. The owner, who's a p who
(01:10:01):
got his money because his parents founded the gap, has
sabotaged their chances of staying in Oakland. He's taken him
to Sacramento, where they're going to play in a minor
league ballpark, and then maybe eventually the move to Las Vegas. Anyway,
they're leaving Oakland, and I've read a lot of pieces
about the A's leaving Oakland. And when a team moves,
(01:10:21):
it's always interesting to read what fans or hear what
fans of that team are going to do in the
absence of their team being in town. And I was
reading a piece and it had it was a married
couple and the man was going to keep rooting for
the A's in Sacramento and then eventually maybe in Las Vegas,
and the woman said, I'm done with the team, and
(01:10:41):
so the POLP question. Thanks to United Heartland Insurance, if
your favorite pro sports team changed cities, you would a
still root for them in their new locale. B pick
a new favorite team, see follow the sport with no
favorite team, or d stop following the sport entirely. This
this is hopefully something we here never ever, ever ever
(01:11:03):
have to deal with. But if any of them moved,
I'm done with them, like forever. I'm not talking like
move to the suburbs. I'm or move across the river,
which I think be kind of cool. But I'm talking
like bolts see you hours away, different time zone, maybe
different country. Done. I could not pick a new favorite team.
(01:11:24):
I don't think I could bolt on the sport entirely.
I think as much as some people don't like stuff
like gambling, I think gambling has kind of made it
easier to really enjoy a sport but not be fully
invested emotionally in a team anyway. Vote now at Moeggor,

(01:12:21):
You know, three weeks ago we had John and you know,
we're all feeling good and you're you're sounding the caution bell.
But today you're you're feeling optimistic. So I needed you today.
Speaker 13 (01:12:31):
I feel like I always have to cut against the grain,
you know, That's what I'm here for this to be,
mister contrarian. Yeah, well, you know, I guess optimistic is
one word for it. I'm not happy about the record, obviously,
but I don't necessarily see it. As you know, the
sky is falling in the season is one hundred percent
over just yet. So you know, perhaps that's optimism, and
(01:12:54):
I guess it is. When everybody else is about ready
to jump up the bridge spending the Ohio there. But
for the most part, you know, it's been a tough start,
but I still think there's reasons for app this.
Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
So let's start with the most glaring thing on Monday night,
which was clearly the defense. All Right, they forced no turnovers,
they forced no punts. Eight days after they hold Patrick
Mahomes to one hundred and fifty one yards passing, And yeah,
they weren't very good against Isaiah Pacheco, but I think
we all came out of that game feeling like the
defense might not be a strength, but maybe it's not
going to be terrible. And then there's what we saw
(01:13:25):
on Monday, and we're talking about how it's not fixable,
how badly does it need to be fixed and is
it fixable?
Speaker 13 (01:13:33):
Well, you know, it depends on I guess the set
your terms, right, what do we mean by fixable good
enough to win some games? Yeah, I think that's possible
for sure. I mean we've seen it before. And like
you said, but for a ridiculous penalty call, they win
the game against the Chiefs, and we're feeling, you know,
a little bit differently this week, even at one and two.
Let's say give some credit to Jayden Daniels. The guy
(01:13:54):
was unbelievable. I don't think it was that surprising the
people who watched him play at LSU, for sure. And
you know, the Bengals have a long sad history of
when they go up against a quarterback, especially a dual
threat quarterback for the first time, they tend to struggle
against him. And you know, we saw some of that
as well, and he made some astounding plays, any one
of which he doesn't make, and the Bengals pull out
(01:14:14):
a victory there. But to get to the point, you know, listen,
the defense has to be better lou An and Roumo,
you want to put it at his feet. I mean,
it's fair to say that he's in his sixth year now,
and of the previous five, maybe there's only about a
twenty five game stretch where the defense has really been good.
They've been me the yocre to atrocious otherwise, certainly in
(01:14:36):
certain aspects of the defense. So you know, maybe he
can only be fixed so much, but it can certainly
be fixed to the point where you can come away
with some w's. And I think, you know, I look
at Kansas City and they have the reputation deservedly so
of how their defense won them last year a championship,
and they've you know, done the things that Cincinnati wants
to do, get young and fast on defense and make plays.
(01:14:58):
And really it's all come down to a couple of
situations with their defense. When it was fourth and one
the other night in Atlanta where I live, they made
the huge play and the huge stop on the Jean
Robinson the kind of things the Bengals have not been doing.
You know, they gave up three of the three fourth
down conversions against the Commanders, and they gave up all
three red zone opportunities as touchdowns for the Commanders, and
(01:15:21):
you know, those are the kind of things they can't do.
I don't think it's a gigantic, you know, tear down
to the studs kind of thing. It's just like we
talk about a lot situational football, and they're just not
getting the job done in the big moments. And that's
why they're owned three rather than being really two and
one or even three, oh, which they easily could be.
Speaker 2 (01:15:38):
They they addressed the defensive line, and unfortunately, some of
the things they've done to address the defensive line haven't
played out because of injury, both with players they have
signed via free agency and guys that they have drafted.
And yet I'll admit that as the offseason unfolded, I
kept wondering, like, are they doing enough? So it's it's
(01:16:00):
you know, it's one thing to look at how they played,
how they've played so far and go what they should
have done more? Up front? There are a lot of
us who kind of said during the course of the
off season, Man, I wish they would have done a
little bit more. Is the quote they should have done
more to address the defensive line kind of thing, in
hindsight a fair assertion, or are we defaulting to it
a little bit too easily because of how they've played.
Speaker 13 (01:16:21):
Yeah, maybe a little bit too easily. I mean I
look back and think, were they really gonna splash out
huge money to sign Christian Wilkins, for example? I mean,
was that ever really a possibility? And what's Christian Wilkins
even done? He was on the milk carton against our
buddy Andy Dalton and the Panthers who we got this
week this past Sunday. I don't know if he was
one of the guys who coach Antonio Pierce accused of
(01:16:43):
making business decisions out there. You would hope not with
that money. But you know, that's not something Cincinnati was
ever seriously gonna do. And listen, we've known for a
long time that they need to add pass rush again
from the opposite of Trey Hendrickson. We've talked about it
over and over again. They were pretty you know, confident
that they were going to get something out of Joseph
O said that they were going to get something out
(01:17:05):
of Miles Murphy, they were going to get something out
of some of their other young guys, and it just
hasn't happened yet. I mean, they've drafted what eight guys
in the first three rounds over the last three years
on that side of the ball to expand it beyond
the defensive line here a little bit. But you know, overall,
I think the point is made that because of either
injury or just not playing as well as they're capable of,
(01:17:27):
you know that that's a lot of draft capital, elite
draft capital that is not paying off right now. And
you know, whether they quote unquote should have done more,
it's hard to see exactly what that means. Maybe they
could have picked up you know, Janick and Guckway like
the Ravens just did as a sort of big body
who you know, knows how to get to the quarterback.
It means to be seen how much he has left.
(01:17:48):
You can make little moves like that, but you know, overall,
I think the guy of who they have, they identified
the guys they wanted. They're just not playing up to
you know, up to par right now, and that has
to change. Obviously, the season is going to be over
a lot sooner than we all want it to be.
Speaker 2 (01:18:03):
Robert wintrobs cincinnatimagazine dot com. His weekly Bengals column is
a must read. Should Carolina's offensive tackle start working on
their touchdowns for Sunday? Touchdown dances for Sunday? Blew the
line touchdown dances for Sunday? I know what you meant.
Speaker 13 (01:18:20):
Well, you know, it's always a good time when an
offensive tackle does a touchdown dance, except when it happens
against the Bengals. I think we can all agree on that.
And I guess the other question is who even are
the Carolina time right? Actually, they're pretty good right today
when Moten is decent veteran and they got the big
kid con they drafted at NC State a couple of
(01:18:40):
years ago in the first round. Haven't played up to
their capabilities read really either. They played well on Sunday,
as everybody did for Carolina in their you know annual
one off good game. Hopefully that's the case. You know,
maybe it's the occasion where Amarus Miams gets his first
start and you celebrate that by calling an offensive ten
eligible eligible play to him, Yes, get him a touchdown,
(01:19:04):
yes game, And maybe that also alleviates some of the
problems they've had in the red zone as well. And
you know, sometimes you need to trick the other team
and throw it to the big man. And listen, Richard
Nixon called into play once and had it run. I believe,
many many moons ago, I'm doing the same.
Speaker 2 (01:19:19):
Year eligible I commanded sign sign me up for that.
They waste a good offensive performance, a really good offensive performance, right,
no turnovers, no punts, one miss field goal, thirty three
points at home should be enough. Give me a thought
or two. Unjust where the offense is going from where
(01:19:39):
it was Week one, when it was in a phone
move to where we saw on Monday night. That is,
you talk about reasons for optimism that offense will track,
that offense will play and if they get anything resembling
that moving forward. I don't know if they're gonna win
enough games to be okay as it relates to them
getting to where we wanted to go, but I but
I do think they'll be okay.
Speaker 13 (01:19:59):
Yeah, and we'll Given the way the league has really
been offensively so far this year, you like to think
that if you're in the vicinity of thirty points a game,
you'll have a good chance of winning a lot of games,
regardless of the start. And yeah, they've definitely improved after
that first game, and we thought they would and should
and they have. And you know, the underlying stats are
very good. They're fifth in offensive DVOA in the league,
(01:20:21):
even despite that game one. They're running game, shockingly enough,
is in the top two or three in almost all
advanced stats. They we talked last week about, you know,
sort of finding the balance between Moss and Brown, and
I think they did that excessively well on Monday night,
both in running and passing game. We'll see how that
plays out going forward. And obviously Washington's defense is nothing
(01:20:42):
to write home about either. But listen, you got Joe Burrow,
you got a Jamar Chase who says he's got the
poison out of his system.
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
Right.
Speaker 13 (01:20:50):
You look at a team like Buffalo and the success
they've had after sort of, you know, going away from
the dominant alpha wide receiver to a more rightit around
and use everybody who's eligible to catch a pass and
run the ball. And I think the Bengals are sort
of We've talked about it a lot heading in that direction,
with the multiple tight ends, a couple of running backs,
(01:21:11):
and obviously you have Chase and you have Higgins, but
you also have andre Yoshibaz's man impact, and you certainly
have Jermaine Burton, who can play a big role going forward.
So you know, offense is the last thing I'm worried
about with this team. I think Joe Burrow has proven
that if he's not one hundred percent the player he
was before his injury, he's certainly not fifty percent the
(01:21:32):
player he was. You know, he's he's not thrown a
couple of balls he'd like to see him throw for
whatever reason, But I don't think there's any problem with
his arm. And you know, they got a lot of
weapons and the offensive line, especially with Vin's in there,
and if he can stay healthy, I think they're in
good shape offensively. They may just have to outscore their
opposition all year long. I mean, that could be a
case where we're looking at having to win shootouts rather
(01:21:53):
than a complete performance on both sides of the ball
for most of the year.
Speaker 2 (01:21:56):
Yeah, I would agree. We'll do it again next week. Man,
thanks so much.
Speaker 10 (01:22:01):
All right, let's do it after a W that'd be nice.
Speaker 2 (01:22:04):
That'd be nice. Yes, I can't spell wind Trump W.
Thank you, Robert wind Trump Since then Magazine, go read
his piece at cincinnamagazine dot com. We'm talking about Trent
Brown's injury and Brandon Williamson's injury and what I think
is a weird injury involving our Cleveland Brown orthos. Since
he's doctor, Amelia Wiggins joins us next on ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:22:25):
You've been listening to football in Thenetti on the official
home of the Bengals, Cincinnati's ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:22:33):
Jamar Chase back at practice today. No Sheldon Rankins, no
bj Hill. Trey Hendrickson also out with an illness. Bengals
Panthers Sunday at one o'clock there was a pretty significant
injury on Monday night. Trent Brown done for the season.
We're going to talk about him and more. We do
this typically on Wednesdays. Today is obviously not Wednesday. We
(01:22:53):
talk injuries with one of the experts from Orthos since
he the great thing about Orthos, since he is They've
got specialists in locations all over the Tri State. They
offer walking orthopedic urgent care during the week nine a
to nine p and Saturday's nine eight to one P.
Learn more at Orthosinc dot com. That's Orthos ci NCY
dot com. I want to begin with Brandon Williamson before
(01:23:16):
we talk about Trent Brown. He is going to have
Tommy John surgery. A lost twenty twenty four for him
because of the shoulder injury that caused him to miss
so much of the season. He comes back and now
he's got a UCL injury. This is not good. It
obviously ends his twenty twenty four. It probably ends his
twenty twenty five before it even begins. What causes severe
(01:23:39):
injuries to the UCL too?
Speaker 14 (01:23:41):
Th UCL it is it is a strong what we
call valgus force on the inside of the elbow right
over your media of a condle on where your funny
bone is. You have to hit that on our nerve.
Those two are closely related. So when pitchers are pitching,
when they're in that late cocking phase and that early
acceleration when they start to whip that ball forward, the
(01:24:03):
arm is obviously back behind you and your elbows coming
forward a little bit, and there's a lot of torque
on the inside of that elbow. So at that phase,
if you're you know, if your BUI mechanics are off
or just from repetition, you know, it's very They're throwing
a lot of force there. Sometimes that force can be
too much and that that ligament is small and can
(01:24:26):
just pop. That's exactly what happened with him.
Speaker 2 (01:24:30):
This this procedure. It feels like we talked about it
with such regularity that I think we've sort of lost
sight with exactly what happens. Can you describe it for us?
Speaker 14 (01:24:39):
The surgery itself, So the ulner collateral is a ligament
that goes from from the humorous down to the ulner
there and it holds the inside of the elbow stable.
So basically what we do that ligament usually is irreparable.
Sometimes people can repair that and they can just sit,
(01:25:00):
stitch that ligament back up and tack it back into
the bone. The humorous that's usually where it comes off.
So a lot of times, you know you can do that,
or most commonly what we do is just reconstruct that ligament.
So you use an alligraphed or you use an autograph
a tissue from their own body to make a new
ligament and you just dock it in to the bone
(01:25:22):
and if you usually back it up with a suite
air and that secures it. It is honestly, it's just
like an ACL. The technique is the same as how
I would fix an ACL. It's just in the elbow
with much smaller, smaller anchors and a smaller ligament.
Speaker 2 (01:25:37):
So this is a procedure that obviously so many advancements
have been made. This felt like many many years ago
it was a death sentence. And now I mean pictures
come back from it with regularity, and in some cases
they're even better. And we have had pictures who have
had the procedure multiple times. And so you know, there
was a time where you would hear Tommy John surgery
and you feared the worst. And now I hate to
say routine, but that's almost what it feels.
Speaker 14 (01:25:58):
Like, you know, is it's becoming more and more common.
And I don't know if that's our surgical techniques have
obviously evolved over the years. We have better anchors. We
you know, we know to put stronger graphs in and
back them up within what we call internal briefs extra sutures.
It is it is becoming a lot more common. That
also has to do with the fact that our kids
(01:26:20):
are a lot more active. You know, we have a
pitch count at age nine, ten eleven now because we
realize it matters. Because people were pitching too much, putting
too much force at such a young age, before they
were skeletonally mature, before their muscles were in balance, before
their biomechanics were good, and so we saw a big
increase in this injury. And now I think so we
(01:26:43):
fix obviously more and now I think we're going back
to the younger age. We're trying to prevent more of these,
because nobody wants anyone to have this surgery at any age.
If we can do less of them, that would be best.
But it will come down to more prevention, biomechanics, stretching,
all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:27:00):
Yeah, Doctor Emilie Wiggins from Orthosinsia is with us. Let's
talk about Trent Brown unfortunately carted off on Monday night.
He has a tendon tear in his right knee and
his twenty twenty four season is over really before it
even begins. Can you tell me what the Pateller tendon
is and what it does.
Speaker 14 (01:27:19):
So, the Betell attendant attaches your kneecap to your shin bone.
It's that bump you can feel it in front. I
think everyone kind of know your knee cap and then
the shinbone not to be tubercle that it attaches to,
and it extends the leg. So if the Betel attendon
or the quad tendon which would attach your quad stup
to your petella, if those rupture, then you cannot lift
(01:27:42):
your leg while it's straight. Your leg will just fall bent.
And if you watch his injury, that's exactly what happened.
He went. He was in such a stance that he
had so much pressure on his squad. His quad muscle
was so strong as he was crouching down that it
pulled that tendon straight off the bone, and then he
(01:28:06):
just collapsed.
Speaker 2 (01:28:06):
You could see that.
Speaker 14 (01:28:07):
His leg did not hold him anymore because you need
that fatel at tendon to hold your leg in full extension,
and he just dropped right to the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:28:14):
So this is maybe a stupid question, not the first
time I've asked one. He's a big man, So was
is was his weight? Was his mass a factor or
could it have been with something like this.
Speaker 14 (01:28:28):
I mean, yeah, yeah, it can be.
Speaker 9 (01:28:30):
It is.
Speaker 14 (01:28:30):
It's a lot of force your body. Your knee feels
five to seven times your body weight, so that's a lot.
Speaker 4 (01:28:38):
He's a big dude. He's also so strong.
Speaker 14 (01:28:42):
I think the force when he contracts his quadrucep, the
force of that is just unreal, you know, And so
I think it was just I was obviously a very
unfortunate injury. But yeah, the force of his contractings he
was getting down into that squat stand, the force of
that plus is body weight plus. I mean a lot
(01:29:04):
of football players and basketball players will have chronic botella
tendonitis that tendon because it gets so much force put
on it, so much stress, it does get a tendonitis,
is chronic inflammatory tissue in there that players can play through.
But compared to me and you, you know, their tendons
are not as healthy as ours. And then just too
(01:29:25):
much force on it.
Speaker 2 (01:29:27):
That's our friend doctor Amelia Wiggins from Orthos Sincy. I
say it every week. The great thing about the people
at Orthosincy is they have specialists on locations across the
tri State, including walk in orthopedic urgent care weekdays nine
a to nine p Saturday's nine am to one p
in Edgewood and Anderson. It's easier and it's cheaper than
going to an er. Whenever you have an urgent orthopedic injury,
(01:29:48):
go to Orthosincy dot com. That's ortho ci Ncy dot com.
We'll head to Charlotte next. It's the Ortho Sincy Moegers
Show and the bud Light five o'clock Hayat. We're on
ESPN fifty thirty Cincinnati sports station. If you love to track,
one of the very best sports talk radio show hosts
in the country is a guy by the name of
(01:30:08):
Mark Yarborough who was on the Afternoon Rush on seven
thirty the game in Charlotte. I love listening to this
guy Bengals Panthers, so we got him on. You did
a topic I think last week maybe the week before,
where you and your partners asked are the Carolina Panthers
the NFL's most irrelevant team. How did that go over?
Speaker 6 (01:30:30):
I my co hosts didn't think they were the most
irrelevant because people were actually talking about him with the
Bryce Young situation. I still thought they were irrelevant. But
two to what Bobby Now, my co host, said, yeah,
that they were being talked about. So I guess at
least last week maybe they weren't irrelevant. But up until
(01:30:53):
last week, it sure felt like they were the most
irrelevant team in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:30:57):
So when you say that, is that irrelevant in the area?
Is that irrelevant nationally? Where does not?
Speaker 3 (01:31:02):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:31:03):
No, not no, not In Thisssarrea.
Speaker 6 (01:31:05):
Obviously, people good or bad, they talk about the Panthers.
I was looking more from a national landscape that they
are not, you know, not They're not block A, not
block d C d on A, on A, you know,
on any type of con show nationally. But no around here,
people obviously are are interested in what's going on, good or.
Speaker 2 (01:31:23):
Bad, because I do know what it's like when the
Bengals are irrelevant here and uh, the fear of things
keep going the way they have been will be Uh,
We'll be there and I'll be doing the same topic
on a local basis here in November. Why has the
Bryce Young thing not worked?
Speaker 6 (01:31:40):
You know a lot of people actually last week nationally
wanted to blame the Panther organization, and I, you know,
I would say this last year, Bryce was not particularly
set up well to succeed. You had, uh, you know,
Frank Reich was a coach. He was supposed to be
a quarterback guru, much like we're hearing with Dave Canallas.
(01:32:02):
And you know, you know, Frank Wrice started the year
calling out plays and then they decided to move the
play calling over to Thomas Brown, offensive coordinator, and then
Frank Wright took back the play calling and it was
a yo, yo. The offensive line was a mess. You
know all that, It's true. But in the end, Mo,
Bryce Young just did not play good football. Look, he
(01:32:25):
started sixteen of the seventeen game last year and then
started the first two games this year. And we all
have eyes, we all watched and if it was the
weird thing is all off season we talked about he
can't possibly do anything but get better.
Speaker 4 (01:32:42):
Right right, right?
Speaker 6 (01:32:45):
No, Mo, no, wrong, he doesn't have to get better.
He actually looked worse in the first two games. This
year than they did last year. I mean, there were
just no signs that he was progressing and it was
painful to watch. So there's a lot of reasons, but
the bottom line is Bryce Young did not play good
(01:33:07):
enough football to remain a starter in the National Football League.
Had he been allowed to continue to start, David Allis
was going to lose this football team.
Speaker 2 (01:33:16):
So you know, a lot has obviously happened since they
took him. But when they did take him, was there
a sense, all right, this is the guy we won
or were people on board with Stroud before he ever
threw a pass in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (01:33:27):
No, I tell you, Bobby, one of my co hosts
of myself and on the show last year, we both
wanted c J. Stroud. We thought that was the better pick.
I think the consensus around here was c J.
Speaker 4 (01:33:39):
Stroud. I think there were people in that building that
wanted c J. Stroud.
Speaker 6 (01:33:43):
Unfortunately, the man who runs the team that signs the checks,
that brings music to Charlotte if you listen to him,
David Tepper, he wanted Bryce Young. And guess what they
took Bryce Young, and they when they made the trade
up to take up they were originally gonna move up
to three. David Tepper's question was, well, we're gonna move
(01:34:04):
up back far. Let's just move all the way up
to number one. And once they did, it became pretty
apparent that Bryce Young was David Tepper's guy.
Speaker 4 (01:34:11):
So guess what they took, David. They took Bryce Young.
Speaker 2 (01:34:15):
So his benching in favor of Andy Dalton. If you
have to turn the team over to somebody we know firsthand,
you could do a lot worse. I've read people say, well,
Bryce is in effective, he's effectively in time out, and
I've seen people say like it's done, They've reached the
point of no return, it's time to figure out who's next.
In reality, where are they with him?
Speaker 6 (01:34:36):
We all believe that Bryce Young is done here. We
I just I don't see anyway. Particularly I'm not gonna
say Andy's gonna go out there and play like you
did last week every week, because you know this better
than anybody, that there's gonna be weeks where Andy Dalton
shows you why he's been a backup for the last
several years. But even with that said, I don't know
(01:34:56):
he's playing He's gonna play.
Speaker 4 (01:34:57):
Better than Bryce. I just don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:34:59):
How you go into that locker room and tell those guys, Okay,
we're gonna go back to.
Speaker 4 (01:35:03):
Bryce Young here.
Speaker 6 (01:35:05):
I think again, you're gonna You're gonna lose a lot
of the locker room if that happens. But it just
feels like that that Bryce's days as a starter here
are done. They've been determined. I'm not saying the guy's
career is over. He baby goes somewhere else, finds a
fresh start. And this is all part of the great
(01:35:26):
movie that has made one day about Bryce's great career
in the NFL. But for right now, I don't see it,
barring an injury. Well, I don't see any scenario where
Bryce Young is the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers
again this year or any year.
Speaker 2 (01:35:41):
Mark yarbroad seven thirty the game in Charlotte for a
few more minutes. So they hired Dave Knalison. He's like
the quarterback guru. So if you're hiring him, it's because
you think he can get the most out of Bryce Young.
If you're bailed on that experiment early, is there a
chance they bail on the head coach early?
Speaker 6 (01:35:58):
Look, I would never put it past David Keepper to
get unhappy with the coaches situation. We saw that last year.
So I am not about here to pen on the tables.
Speaker 2 (01:36:08):
And now there's no.
Speaker 4 (01:36:08):
Way Dave or Dallis will get fired.
Speaker 6 (01:36:11):
And I think that to me, that had something to
do with him making the switch at quarterback. I think
he saw from afar last year what happened here, and
he said, that's not.
Speaker 4 (01:36:20):
Gonna be me.
Speaker 6 (01:36:21):
I'm not getting I'm not gonna get caught up in there.
I'm gonna at least go with the guy. I think
it gives me the best chance to win. I don't
think Dave can Allis is going anywhere this year now
next year.
Speaker 4 (01:36:32):
I can't make any promises.
Speaker 6 (01:36:34):
And hell like I just said, I'm not gonna make
any promises this year that he's not going anywhere. But
it feels like he's at least safe for this year.
I will say this mood. And you brought up, you
know about him being the quarterback guru and everything.
Speaker 4 (01:36:45):
Big difference here.
Speaker 6 (01:36:46):
I think Bryce Young obviously just in his second year
as Dave Canalis took over here. You look at the
other stops Seattle. You know Gino was a veter baker
Mayfield was a veteran, so the people like to make
those comparisons, but there is a bit of a difference
of his previous stops and then what happened here with
Bryce Young.
Speaker 2 (01:37:05):
Awesome stuff. Man, have a great show today. I do
appreciate the time. Enjoy the game on Sunday. Thanks so much.
Speaker 4 (01:37:10):
Well, you got it man, You guys take care of there, all.
Speaker 2 (01:37:12):

to you for listening. This has been the butt Light
