Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sunday morning at nine am on your official home for
the Cincinnati Bengals, ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Yeah, what's up? Five minutes after three o'clock on the nose.
This is ESPN fifteen thirty, Blaggers. Thank you so much
for joining us. Hopefully you're having as good of a
Thursday as we are. We are stoked to be here
for our eighth year broadcasting from the Anthony Munhos Foundation
Top Golf Tailgate from Top Golf in Westchester. A gorgeous afternoon.
(00:30):
The weather is absolutely perfect. This is an awesome event,
and we can't thank the folks with the Anthony Munhos
Foundation enough for not just putting on this event, but
giving us a chance to broadcast from it, rolling out
the red carpet. They're always so accommodating, and the best
part of it is we get to start the show
every year by chatting with the greatest of all time,
(00:50):
Anthony Munhos. It is awesome to be here. Thank you
as always. How are you I'm doing great? Thank you
for being here. We appreciate you doing your show here
every year. Again, as you mentioned the eighth year, and
how about this weather? Oh September fourth, and it's like unbelievable.
We've had We've had shows where we've been here and
I've lost weight, right, you know, just.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
The what, I've had a puddle under my chair.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah, and we've we've I don't think we've had a cold.
They're gonna have cold in early September. This is the nicest.
We we haven't had rain. It rained a little bit overnight,
but this. You can't draw it up any better.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Oh, this is great. There'll be a great evening. We
have the entire bay filled the night. Well, uh, you know,
we'll have quite a few people here playing golf and
raising some money and giving us an opportunity to continue
to impact young people in this great community, which is uh,
you know, it's nice to have top golf for you know,
this event or that event, But bottom line is gives
(01:44):
us an opportunity to raise money to impact kids. And
I appreciate everybody that's here tonight, you all for being
here that believe in what we're doing and give us
an opportunity to talk about it.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
This event in itself, since it started, has raised over
three hundred and eighty thousand dollars, which is remarkable.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
It really is and we thank the Ventura, you know,
the great the facility. Nor would Pete Ventura has been
a friend of the foundation for quite a few years.
They went ahead and they started sponsoring this. So they're
the partners. So everything we make here, the sales of
the bays and you see the auction items in the raffle,
and so all this money we make here, Tony goes
(02:23):
directly to the impact programs and the you know, we're thankful.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
I mean, we couldn't do what we do. We have
a great staff. You see them.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Running around and putting things together, put this program together.
We have great this you know, strategic plans and great staff,
but we can't do what we do without the partners
that believe in what we're doing to help fund us,
fund the programs and allow us to impact young people.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
You know, it's as you were talking about that, I
was thinking of two things. Your your foundation does the
Lord's work as far as I'm concerned. But what is
so impressive to me is, you know it's legitimate when
you see the same people every year, the same partners,
the same staff. I don't know what your turnover rate is,
but I see the same people at your events and
(03:05):
that tells me number one, you're treating people the right way.
And number two, it means that the mission that you
guys are involved in is a meaningful one to the
people that get involved with you guys.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Well, you know, I appreciate that. And that's the great
thing about it. This is we're finishing up our twenty
fourth year, so we'll be celebrating twenty five years next year.
I mean, look at our different events. I mean take
our golf tournament that we do in June, for instance.
We just did our twenty fourth year. The company formerly
known as Cincinnati Bell and No Alta Fiver has been
the partner for our golf for entire time. We've had
(03:37):
our dinner at the Manor House all but one time.
You know, this is eight years here and we have
you know, our relationship goes back for years and years.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
You guys give us the opportunity.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
We go way back then before you were had the
headset on the and they heard your voice over the air.
But that's the thing I love to do, is that
we establish the relationships. And that is kind of and
that's what I've done also in my mind my kind
of personal business life, when I'm when I'm promoting something,
a lot of people say, well, let's do one year,
(04:06):
let's check it out. I said, well, let's do three years,
four years.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Because I believe in what I'm doing.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
I believe in you, and that's what I've had the
opportunity to do here in Cincinnati. So you see a
lot of the same partners over and over and over,
and that's because you know, hopefully we continue to do
the job that they like and continue to impact. And again,
I can't say enough about our staff. You know, our
four staff. We have four young ladies who do that.
We have eighteen great board members we have. You know,
(04:31):
you see not only the staff rolling around, you know,
Kaylee and Kristen and Claire and Anna, but then you
see the interns at the intern program we've had since
the beginning, local college students that come in on board
and they help out our staff. So you see them
running around and then you know, a lot of volunteers
for what we do over the years. So the way
I look at it, my name's on it, but that's
about where it ends, because it's a team effort. You know,
(04:55):
do they still call you the intern in the office.
I think they still refer to me as the senior intern.
I think it's gone the senior senior intern.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Now.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
Yeah, you know, it's funny because a lot of times
with the young people that we have a chance to
impact and get involved with, they used to our staff
used to call me the you know, the crazy uncle.
Now it's like the grandfather to these young people that
you know, because they have no clue of what I
did back in you know, from eighty to ninety two. Uh,
I said, go ask your grandparents because they're the ones
that watched me at Riverfront Stadium.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
That that that makes me feel old, right, that makes
that we have we have folks working with you have
no idea that you played, how good you are?
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Well, I'm gonna I was just informed and I'm hoping
I'm sure some of those interns are here and might
hear this. But they had a little quiz and they
asked them what was the stadium named back before?
Speaker 3 (05:47):
And they didn't know what those Riverfront Stadium. I'm thinking
that these these.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Interns are really really young and yeah, so we uh,
it's amazing.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
I got to share this too. I spoke to a
coaching staff last night.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
The Bearcat coaching staff Saturfield, and so we're talking and
a good friend of mine was given away a book
that had some of the greatest athletes, I mean Michael
Jordan and Montana, and he asked the question about a
game and one of the coaches that nineteen eighty four
and the game took place in nineteen fifty eight.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Oh no, So I'm like, you're really young. Yeah, oh no.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Did the Bearcat coaching staff bring you in to talk
with him or can you give him some snaps?
Speaker 5 (06:30):
Well?
Speaker 2 (06:30):
They have.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Yeah, you know, I started to demonstrate a little bit
and I said, okay, that's it. I'm going to go
nice plunge. But you know, Coach Satterfield has been great.
There's a tradition, I guess from a coach that he
played for, and a lot of the coaches played for
back in the past had a tradition of Wednesday before
they have like a fireplace meeting and then they bring
in Wendy's. And I've been honored and privileged. This is
(06:54):
my third year in a row. They asked me the
first year, and I guess I said, do you guys
you can't find another speaker? But no, it's great. I
get a chance to go in and just share different
things about you know, the game, about life and they
have questions and you know, so I did that last
night and they're so gracious and so cordial and uh,
you know, so I did you know I've gotten into
(07:14):
I tell people my vice are baseball hats. Okay, I
have about four hundred, four hundred and fifty baseball hats
and then tennis shoes.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
And I got into online buying these Jordans. I found
my size. So I have like three or four Jordan
golf shoes which are extremely comfortable, right, and then I
have these Jordan tennis shoes that wear, you know, with
my slacks and stuff. I have like a brown and
gold and have gold, and I have a and I
had I have a red and black pair that I
bought several months ago.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
So I sported those last night.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
I say, guys, I'm representing the Bearcats with my you know,
red and black Jordan's.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
You don't know how good it would make me feel
though if you were wearing a bear Cat hat? Well,
will they let you do that at USC?
Speaker 6 (07:52):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (07:53):
I mean yeah, okay, I was, yeah, I mean, as
long as I don't wear a Notre Dame hat. They're final,
they would this. So here's the story. So you know,
our our foundation colors are Cardinal and gold. Started out
orange and black Horse Bengals, but then I switched at
about four or five years of Cardinal and Gold, and
I went back to a USC game and I had
(08:13):
this Adida shirt and I had a Cardinal a as.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
You can see that.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
But the shirt was gray and I didn't even think
about it. So I get back there. My buddy goes, huh,
I see you're switching your colors. Huh You in Ohio? Now,
so it's scarlet and gray. I said no, I said,
oh my goodness. I didn't realize. I said, no, this
is Cardinal and Gold. But I had my logo on
a gray shirt, and I learned quickly that no more
gray shirts was my log as.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
He question, your buddy, if he didn't like what you
were wearing, is there anything he could have done about it?
Speaker 3 (08:42):
No?
Speaker 4 (08:42):
Not really, because I think he was a punter that
got off. Although our the punter I saw him a
couple of years ago, the guy that punted for us
in college. I wouldn't mess with him because I think
he was bigger than all assignment. Now you know things
things have changed.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Hang tight. I want to talk about the team and
this year's Ring of Honor class as well. Anthony Munios
is with us. It's his foundation's top golf tailgate. We're
broadcasting until six o'clock. The event begins at six o'clock tonight.
It is absolutely awesome to be here and the work
that the Anthony Munhos Foundation does is truly truly awe inspiring.
(09:18):
Fourteen after three o'clock on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports.
Speaker 7 (09:22):

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Broadcasting Anthony Mucgials Foundation Top Golf Tailgate at Top Golf
in Westchester, Anthony with us for another segment. Do you
have to call for two of the three preseason games?
Speaker 9 (10:15):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (10:16):
That that last one will sort of throw away because
the starters didn't play. I know, we talk about the
offensive line with you every year. I feel like this
is going to be the best line Joe has played behind.
But is it going to be like a good offensive line.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
I think they have an opportunity to be very good. Yeah,
you know, because of a couple of components. I think,
you know, he's a rookie, but I'm like fair child. Yeah,
I mean, guys, that's the stud.
Speaker 10 (10:38):
Right.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
You look at him and you go, I want you
on my team?
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Yeah, I want you.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
He looks the part he does, he does, and the
great thing is between two veterans Kearris and Brown.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
So that's good.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Of course, the unknown steals the right guarden. But Mems
is just every time I see Memes, every time I
stand next to Mems, every time, I think he has
the opportunity to be really really I mean like really
really good. So I feel good about the offensive line.
Plus I feel good about the offensive line. Coach Scot Peters.
The guy is amazing. He is a first day at camp.
I'm sitting there Lap and I or Dave Lapping mind
(11:10):
sitting there watching and I look at Lap, I said,
a lot of that stuff look familiar. Well quite frankly,
Jim McNally coached him when he was with the Giants,
and he teaches a lot of the stuff that McNally taught.
Plus he's kind of put his own twist on it
because you know, he he competed in jiu jitsu and.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
His attitude is amazing.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
So I like what they've brought together there, and I
believe it could be a very good offensive line.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
You mentioned the name Jim McNally. Explain this to me.
He went into the Hall of Fame this year.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
Well it wasn't so listen, So the Hall of Fame
actually has a separate category.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
You're not an actual member.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
Of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but we started
a category award of excellence. You see, because I've always
been an advocate with all due respect to head coaches.
Those guys assemble the team, they run the team. But
I shared this with my first four years with the Bengals,
my head coach was a Hall of Fame offensive tackle
from the Greek Bay Packers Forrest Gray. Not one minute
(12:06):
did he coach us as an offensive line coach. Right
coach Jim McNally was our coach. So the assistant coaches
are the guys that prepare you fundamentally, strategically and get
you ready for a game.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
So I was always like, you know, these guys never get.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
Recognized, so they're not actually a member of the Football
Hall of Fame, but they have a separate category award
of Excellence, and this year Jim McNally was one of
those awarded. Tom Gray our equipment manager. So they've been
doing this, I think this was the fourth year and
Jimmy finally got in.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
So we had like ten linemen go up to camp.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
They have a reception and they have a luncheon and stuff,
and it's a pretty big recognition. I mean, even though
you're not in the hall, you're still your name's in
the Hall of Fame itself.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
I'm glad you explained it because Joe Walter mentioned it
to me and I go, well, you know, induction weekend
was maybe six seven weeks away, and I go, well,
he's going to be up there, and a bunch of
us are going and that's awesome recognition. Yeah, that's very cool.
Speaking of awesome recognition, you'll have two more names up
there with yours at Pei Corp Stadium. I think the
voters got it right. I've been championing Dave Lapham for
(13:08):
induction now for a while. It's fitting he goes in
during his fiftieth season with this franchise. He is iconic,
he's an iconic broadcaster, he's an iconic person. He's in
that Anthony Munio's class. I know, you have nothing but
good things.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
So Lapp is my guy. Here's a couple of things.
So I get here as a rookie and for four
years I start next to Dave Lapp them I mean,
not only physically was it amazing playing next to him,
but mentally, I mean we've all heard him on the
radio and Trock show. The guy is phenomenal mentally his
retention the information, and so he was the same way
(13:42):
as a player. So I was fortunate that I played
next to day my first four years and kind of
got my feet wet and you know, got into the NFL.
But then just as a person, I mean, he's been
a great friend, not only of our family, but of
the foundation. Back in man twenty seven years ago now
ninety eight, when I was inducted in the Pro Football
Hall of Fame, my hometown Ontario, California, Southern California, had
(14:04):
a big bunch of big events.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
We started out with radio show in the morning.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Then we went to my high school and they, you know,
retired my jersey, and then we did a park dedication
in that night. We did a big dinner at the
convention Center there in Ontario, and the committee said, you
have to bring one of your teammates out for this
entire thing we're doing for you know, the celebration. I said, Hey, Lap,
are you available this day? So Lap went out. The
(14:30):
Lap got to hang out with my family, my coaches,
my teachers, and everybody. So he was out there during
this whole recognition that I had during my Pro Football
Hall of Fame induction time.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
So he is just he's amazing. I was thrilled.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
In fact, we're on after the Jim McNally recognition at
the Hall of Fame, we're all on a text thread
now all the guys, we had ten guys go up
there for Jim, So you know, Gym's on it, you know,
and everybody's on it. So as soon as we got
word that Dave was going to Ring of Honor, we
all congratulate. But I said congratulations, Lap, and I stopped
the text and I called him.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
I had to call him, yeah, and just say how
thrilled I am that he's going into the Ring of Honor.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
It's so well deserved. And I'm thrilled for him and
his family, and saying for Lamar Parish.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
Leap and Lamar Parish, I did not have a chance
to play with them, but the stories of what a
great player not only a defensive back but a returner.
I mean, you know, he did both and did both well,
six to seven Pro Bowls and one of the top
returners in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
And so another great class going in.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
And you know, it's we got to continue that because
as we know, there's a lot of great players that
are deserving, but those two guys are very deserving. I'm
thrilled to be a part of it, and I'm excited
about celebrating in October.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
The Ring of Honor game.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
It's always a lot of fun and for me, it
always creates really good debates, and you know, there's a generation.
I didn't grow up watching Lamar Parish, but I think
it's cool when you know, for ten minutes we talk
about Lamar Parish and a younger set of fans gets
to know about this player who was so good, you know,
back back in the nineteen seventies, and even to a
degree like I don't think people realize how good of
(16:08):
a player, versatile a player, Dave Lapham was.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
Oh my goodness, they call him the tool. Yeah, he
could play center, guard, tackle. I mean, you know, the
guy could play every position, not just play it, but
played extremely at a high level. And that's the impressive
thing about Dave. And one of the stories I always share,
you know, Dave was probably about what two sixty five
two seven when he played. We would play Pitchburg the Steelers,
and the Steelers were always known for these real short
(16:32):
sleeves and biceps and price ups that just balled. And
every time we'd walk on the field and lap would go,
oh my, look at those guns.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
And I say, Lap, have you looked in the mirror.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
Lady, because I said, maybe you got to register those things.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
But I was always laughing.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
Because he would be he would be enamored, amazed, by
their guns, and I'd look down at my guy that
I'm playing next to him, go, I gotta set right
next to me.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
I feel pretty good about That's aw the Anthony.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Munhoz Foundation Top Golf Tailgate. We we'll wrap up by
talking about the foundation itself, and we touched on a
little bit the previous segment. Obviously there is this event,
there's events all throughout the year on the calendar, but
the foundation itself is so well established that I would
imagine most listening to us right now are familiar with
the work you guys do, but just give a snapshot
(17:22):
of where that money you raise tonight is really going
to go.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
Well, you know, we're going into our twenty fifth year
and you know, our staff and was always keeping numbers
and we I'd say probably fifty five to sixty thousand
young people over those twenty four years that we've been
able to be a smart small part of We have
eight programs. We start we work with young people from
kindergarten through seniors in high school. We have mentoring program
from you know k through five, and then we have
(17:47):
another mentoring program from you know six through eight, one
time a week during the school year, and every time
we engage with students, it's not just a program.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
We try to get them involved in other things.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
Maybe taking to the zoo, take them to the Reds game,
do this, take them to a local company.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
So we have our mentoring program.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Those two and then we have coming up and actually
next month we have our Youth Leadership Seminari.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
I think we'll have about eighty to eighty five high
school full day event.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
We'll bring in motivational leadership speakers, breakout sessions. So that's
been a that's we actually kicked off the foundation with
that program twenty four years ago. We have two overnight
character camps where we will take one hundred and thirty
hundred and four young men away Friday evening through Sunday
and we'll, you know, we'll teach them character and we'll
(18:33):
have chapel and we'll have team building activities and character activities,
but we teach them a little football. We got to
teach them a little football. Sure, yeah, so that's to them.
We do one in the spring, pretty multicultural. Then we
do one in the fall that's one hundred percent Hispanic kids.
And so we have those two and then we have
another camp. We have our dinner, golf in June, and
then we usually have a two day camp at the
Bengal Stadium, pay Court Stadium and that usually gets close
(18:55):
to four hundred young people, but about twenty percent of
those are young ladies because it's a day, same type
of template. We teach them character, have team building activities,
teach them a little football, and then we have two
types of scholarships. We have one in the spring we
call straight A Scholarship straight at athletics, academics, achievement, attitude,
and then a big criteria is overcoming adversity. We do
(19:16):
nine male and nine female finalists. We pick a male
and a female finalists and we give two to five
thousand dollars one time and that's held at Jeff Rubys Downtown.
Jeff has been phenomenal. We took a year off because
they were in transition from Jeff Rubies being built at
the tur Fountain Square, so we went to the Manor
House and then we're.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
Back at Lympika the new So that's in April.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
That's our straight A and then we have our scholarship
fund where we give away at our dinner during where
we have our golf and dinner in June twenty thousand
dollars scholarships, and this past June we gave away five
twenty thousand dollars scholarships. And I love my staff because
they're always give me figures. I think through our duration
we've been able to maybe over a little over one
(19:59):
hundred students two million dollars in so we'll continue to
do that, and you know, it's it's pretty exciting. Two
days after our dinner in June, I had a call
and they said, you know, we love the scholarship program.
And said, well, our foundation just is going to write
your grant just bank on next June. You already have
(20:20):
ten scholarships two hundred thousand dollars, so we got you know,
a great start on our scholarships for next year. But
those are the eight programs. And like I said, every
program that the young people are involved in, they don't
pay a penny to be a part of it. We
get everything funded. So every program is funded corporately funded
or you know, private money, so they can just come.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
We outfit them the swag and just take mills and.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
Whatever whatever we have to do for that program, we
take care of it and they just show up.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Many would argue I could benefit from some character education,
so if you know.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
But yeah, it is character education, it's not bringing characters
into it.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Maybe fair enough, Kenn, I thank you enough for having us.
It's it's always an honor and a thrill to come
here and share a stage with you. And congratulations on
another awesome event twenty five years.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
Next, thank you, and again, if you know people want
to go and see what we do and volunteer or
give Munos Foundation dot org and you know, we'd be
more than happy to bring more partners aboard, just like
yourself and the radio station here our partners and we
appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Thy best, Thanks.

(22:37):
at nine a m NFL season begins tonight. You could
hear the season opener on Fox Sports thirteen sixty Eagles
hosting the Dallas Cowboys. Reds have the night off. The
Mets are here tomorrow for the first of three Cincinnati
blows the five ZI lead. Last night, still five games
behind New York. They trailed the Giants now by a
game in the hunt for the last wildcard spot. San

Lee Sterling from Paramount sports dot com joins us every
Thursday to help us win some money on pro and
college football. We're going all pro this week Paramount sports
dot com. Follow Lee on Twitter at Paramount Sports. That's
(23:20):
actually not true. We are going to start with the
barricat game. Lee. It's good to have you Cincinnati at
home after the lost in Nebraska. The Bearcats did cover
looking for their first win and have to cover nearly
three touchdowns at home against Bowling Green.
Speaker 10 (23:35):
So Bowling Green. Drew Pines the quarterback sixth year. He
has been all over the place, Notre Dame, Arizona State, Missouri.
Speaker 11 (23:45):
Last year he did not look impressive.
Speaker 10 (23:48):
I can't remember when he looked impressive.
Speaker 12 (23:51):
So that's tinne.
Speaker 10 (23:53):
When your team has your head coach Scott Loffler, he
bolts the program right before spring ball after they were
already losing a fifteen hundred yard receiver to the Browns
number one running back with over a five and a
half yard per kerry average at Virginia Tech and a
sixty seven percent passer to the Tampa Bay Bucks roster. Cincinnati,
(24:16):
as we know, he's lost six games in a row,
five to Big twelve opponents and Nebraska, who, let's be honest,
they probably should have beaten but for those two crucial
red zone turnovers, one on each end. Sorry Eddie George,
but I've got a job to save here. I like
Cincinnati thirty eight.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Ten, very good, Lee Sterling Paramount sports dot com. We
get a rematch of a great playoff game from last year.
Buffalo a very slight favorite against Baltimore.
Speaker 10 (24:49):
It's interesting. So I had Baltimore in the first game
the year they win thirty five to ten over Buffalo,
and I just sense it wasn't going to be easy.
Buffalo was going to win that game in the playoffs,
and they did. But I mean they were plus three
turnovers in that game, and there was a couple of
crucial drops. I can't await from that game. Just feeling lucky.
(25:11):
I think that Baltimore is the better team. Bills were
plus twenty four in turnover Marching twenty twenty four.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
That was one and a half times as.
Speaker 10 (25:20):
Good as the number two teams turnover marching twice as
good as number three's, which is Baltimore, which gained seven
point three yards per snap in that game to the
Bills that they lost, and the Bills only gained four
point six yards per snap. Baltimore is the better team here.
Buffalo's banged up on defense. I think Baltimore returns the
(25:41):
favor here. They owned the regular season here thirty five
to twenty eight.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Lee Sterling Paramount Sports dot Com Battle of Ohio to
start the season here Lee, Cincinnati is on the road.
Bengals looking for a season opening victory in Week one
for the first time since twenty twenty one. They've got
to cover five and a half as Cleveland on Sunday?
Speaker 3 (26:01):
Do they.
Speaker 10 (26:03):
Al Golden very familiar with him when he was here
at University of Miami and watched what he did with No.
Speaker 11 (26:09):
Dame.
Speaker 10 (26:09):
I think he's going to be the right defensive coordinator.
He's kind of simplified things which they needed to do
and not a great head coach, but a pretty good coordinator.
Got Notre Dame to the final game here. Now they're
going to face the Browns, who were thrown on the
side of the Bengals during that nine to two run
against them. From twenty eighteen twenty twenty three. Cleveland has
(26:32):
lost the last three, but two of them were played
way late in the season, then pretty meaningless games here. Also,
their October loss was when Watson and dt Harror both
left the game with injuries. Here the only time the
Browns have played the Bengals on opening Day recently with
twenty twenty three twenty four to three home win, I'm
(26:56):
going to say Cincinnati escapes twenty four to twenty three.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
All right, win outright, not covering the number. Good enough,
good enough, We'll take it here. I think the numbers
a little bit happy, to be honest with you, aren't
your game of the week. Aaron Rodgers bawl Pittsburgh at
two and a half point favorite against the Jets.
Speaker 12 (27:13):
Wow, that should be a fun game.
Speaker 10 (27:15):
There's about five or six great games. So anyone wants
to get that game for free? Call eight hundred, four
hundred and nine seven four one. Give you the Steelers
and the Jets.
Speaker 12 (27:25):
You know what.
Speaker 10 (27:25):
I'm in such a good mood, I'll give you ten nights.
Speaker 6 (27:28):
Cowboys and game.
Speaker 10 (27:30):
Their game should be a great.
Speaker 6 (27:32):
Game against the Eagles.
Speaker 10 (27:33):
So Cowboys and Eagles, and also Steelers and Jets on
me called eight hundred four hundred nine seven four one.
Speaker 11 (27:40):
How about this mode.

next week.
Speaker 6 (28:01):
Okay, came up.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
Absolute best in the business is our guy, Lee Sterling,
Paramount Sports dot Com. Typically at this time on this
show every year, I sit here and talk with Miranda Ventura.
Apparently not available. Her better half Pete is here.
Speaker 13 (28:19):
What's up man? Yeah, not a lot. Yeah, just got
here rolling in hot Yeah it's good.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Yeah, it's good. Before that you can get a drink
before you could see anybody else. You got to come
on with me, Pete. For those of you who don't
know you heard Anthony before, we talk about the Ventura,
which is just an awesome venue in Norwood. And you
guys have been a part of this event for I
think since the beginning, right the foundation for a very
long time. Yep, yep.
Speaker 13 (28:43):
Yeah, we've been with these guys since the beginning. What
is it seven eight years here here?
Speaker 6 (28:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Have you been here all eight years?
Speaker 3 (28:51):
Every year?
Speaker 13 (28:52):
Yeah, yeah, that's crazy, it's awesome. But yeah, it's been
going great where we're so happy to be a part
of the foundation and be able to contribute our our
small part to what Anthony does.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
So, uh, we.
Speaker 13 (29:03):
Always get blessed with great weather, which it seems like
every time we're here. But I do apologize. Yeah, well
I like to using my wife Miranda does come in
and that's all. She's a little more seasoned at this thing.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Oh no, no, she was. She is season she's a
little nicer to look at. And I wasn't gonna say that,
but that's that's what I was thinking, Pete. I'm not
gonna lie. I mean, you don't want to be the
creepy guy in your wife, but you know, yeah, that's
that's sort of what I was thinking. That's okay. I
I have to imagine it's so gratifying for you to
be involved with this foundation and see firsthand more than
(29:34):
than most get a chance to the work that they do.
Speaker 13 (29:36):
Sure, sure, you know, we we I was blown away
from the beginning. You know, I first met uh mister,
you know, Anthony minez Uh in a business I had.
We did we did a ribbon cutting ceremony. We're a
really small company at the time, didn't didn't.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Have, you know, a lot of funds. We reach out
to him.
Speaker 13 (29:55):
He came out and uh, you know, did kind of
did his thing, and it was always there kind of
port mean and from the beginning, and then I learned
about him and what he does with the foundation here,
and you know, someone of his stature, uh, you know,
not just locally but nationally, Uh, to give back and
to do what he does. You just don't see that
(30:16):
no ver hear that. No, you definitely don't in Cincinnati. No,
you don't hear you hear about some guys nationally doing
stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
But sure he could.
Speaker 13 (30:24):
He could be off just you know, playing the guest
best golf courses around the world whenever he wants.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
I know he does a handful of time.
Speaker 13 (30:30):
Sure, but to see what he does with with the
disadvantaged youth and how the money goes right back into
these kids' futures. And so it's just a great foundation
to be involved with. And we couldn't be more excited.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
The true labor of love for him. Let's talk about
the Ventura, which has been up and running now for
a few years, right, and it feels like it's been
an awesome success. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 13 (30:52):
We we renovated an old bank building there, the old
Fidelti Federal in downtown.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Norwood, right there on the corner, right there on the corner.
Speaker 13 (30:59):
Yeah, City Halls just a stones throw away, but we
renovated this event space or the bank into an event space.
It holds two hundred people seated, three hundred standing. We
built a nice outdoor patio. It's got a great vibe
down there in the action, but it's still private at
the same time when you're in there. But we have
(31:20):
plenty of parking and it's real inner city there being
in Norwood, so anybody in the city can get there
in fifteen twenty minutes, which is great when you're having
an event and you're pulling from all over. But yeah,
it's been well received and doing well building our clientele and.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
All sorts of events too big, small.
Speaker 13 (31:40):
Right, Yeah, yeah, we'll do. You know, we do a
lot of weddings, high school reunions. We've been getting even
from the beginning to do a lot of daytime luncheon sentminars.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
We got a lot of business meetings.
Speaker 13 (31:52):
We do a handful events for the Minus Foundation here
when they do trainings and stuff like that, they'll host
it there. But it's a great eight little spots are Yeah,
even especially during the day, just for a couple of hours.
People are looking for that big time. It seems like
it went that location as well, right.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
There in the heart of norwid the heart of Norwidy's
for me to say, the Ventura. We've talked about it
since year one and watching it grow has been very cool.
Speaker 13 (32:17):
Yeah, yeah, it's uh, it's still getting out there. We're
trying to do certain events too. A lot of people
still have never even heard of us, right, so you know,
how do you market an event center and get the
word out? A lot of it is just word of mouth,
but uh, you know, we try to do as much
as we can and then when people come in there
and actually see the space, they're kind of blown away.
It's it's a really cool spot. So the more people
(32:38):
that we can get in there, the better. Obviously it's
made that happen.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Yeah, I can't thank you enough. Give them a random
my best. Yeah, I will absolutely, I'll expect her next year.
Speaker 13 (32:46):
We just wrote yeah, yeah, you don't think the kids
will make sure she's Yeah, I just.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
It's not something I said. I mean, been a lot
of she was just I've been stood up by women before, Pete,
so you know, yeah, it happens. She did say to say, hi, thanks,
that's good. We'll give her my best.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
I will.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
Pete. Thank you for the support of this event and
always fun catching up. Yeah yeah, I appreciate your time too,
and you've been doing this. We love coming out. Our guy,
Chad Brendel joins us.

U S getting set to play Bowling Green on Saturday
at Knippert Stadium. Hi, Chad.
Speaker 5 (34:17):
Out, how's it going?
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Life is good? Life is good. Life would be a
lot better had the Bearcats finished that game against Nebraska.
The defense held its own, which we'll talk about. Cincinnati's
offense had a lot of twenty twenty four in it
in the twenty twenty five season opener. What was the
biggest culprit?
Speaker 5 (34:36):
Clearly the passing game? I mean, And the thing is,
I know it's easy to bag on Brendan Soresby because
quite frankly, he didn't play well and deserves some heat for.
Speaker 14 (34:48):
You know, not getting the job done.
Speaker 5 (34:51):
But man, there were a couple of plays in there
that two of those screens that should have been big games.
Ones a drop, ones, miss block. There was just stuff
that could have got that offense on track and had
a much bigger day, and the execution was poor. And
you know that's the problem though, as there really was
(35:14):
if you go like as you go back and dig
through it, there was a lot to like about that game,
but they couldn't win it, and the reason they didn't
win it felt a lot like why they didn't win
games in twenty twenty four, and that's disconcerting to say
the least.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Yeah, I mean, some of the themes from last year,
and look, defensively, I don't think you could ask for
much more. The Special team's play was vastly improve what
you and I talked about a lot this offseason. They
ran the ball effectively. I don't put that much of
what I saw in the downfield passing game on Brendan
Sorosby because I didn't think anybody could get open. What
I did think they would do was take advantage of
(35:55):
Joe Royer, and that didn't happen.
Speaker 5 (35:59):
Yeah, I mean, obviously, look, Joe Royer is at the
top of the scouting report. Medal teams know you're gonna
have to stop Joe Royer to beat Cincinnati, So One,
you're gonna need other guys to play well to open
that up. And two, you can't just throw up your
hands and say, oh, well they they you know, they
(36:21):
tried to take them away mission accomplished that. That sucks
to be up like. That's one of my biggest like
red flags on this game.
Speaker 11 (36:29):
Though.
Speaker 5 (36:30):
Remember last year when they played Iowa State and they
just kind of threw their hands up and said, up,
Iowa State's got a great pass the defense, We're gonna
be able to pass the ball. Then they threw for
sixty yards. Boy, last week felt like a lot of
the same. Up Nebraska's probably the best pass the defense
will play this year. Just not gonna be able.
Speaker 12 (36:50):
To pass the ball.
Speaker 5 (36:51):
Like, you can't have that, and part of that is
getting the ball in your hands of the best player
on your offense and letting him go do his thing.
Speaker 15 (37:02):
He did not.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Should Should people be mad that they took four and
a half million dollars to move that game?
Speaker 5 (37:11):
I think it's more it's gonna end up being more
than four and a half million dollars once you had
in the bonuses and the ticket stuff. Look, does it
suck for fans? Absolutely? Was it inconvenience for the team. Absolutely,
should John Cunningham be fired if he didn't take that money. Probably,
(37:34):
Like you know, this is not Ohio State, Texas, Alabama,
where you know you just make a call and somebody
will throw in three, four or five million dollars. You
have got to be creative. You have got to get
money wherever you can. And when you can make four
to five million dollars, you make four to five million dollars.
Speaker 2 (37:54):
Bowling Green any good?
Speaker 5 (37:58):
I don't think so. And then they scored what one
offensive touchdown last week? They kicked four field goals. They
ran the ball a ton with moderate success. If this
defense is better, and we think it's better, boy, they
better be able to handle Bowling Green.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
I would agree with that whole heartedly. It's it's always
awesome to have you. The non conference basketball schedule came out,
so I don't have to ask you about that, and
I guess we'll see out it's out.
Speaker 12 (38:32):
Yeah, the answer to your question was.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
This week, yes, out.
Speaker 5 (38:37):
And then I think to answer your other question, the
past three years, it's been September twenty third, September twenty sixth,
and September twenty sixth, Right, So.
Speaker 10 (38:49):
Sometime in that second to last or last.
Speaker 5 (38:52):
Week of September, we will know the entire schedule, and
you know, then you can be perfectly content until you
start throwing tens in November.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
Let's hope, Let's hope we don't throw any in November.
We'll see Chad.
Speaker 12 (39:08):
Thank you very much as always, thanks appreciating man.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
He's ready to go back like.
Speaker 11 (40:29):
Shape.
Speaker 18 (40:29):
I get to be your agent, right, No, heck no, hey,
it was going to be a bigger no than that

Speaker 2 (40:38):
That's kind of you.
Speaker 3 (40:39):
Thank you. It's awesome that you're good.
Speaker 6 (40:41):
Joe.
Speaker 11 (40:41):
Well, thanks great, thank you you do.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Too, No, I don't, that's okay. It's a Robert. I
thought they may call you because I went through every
safety in the book that they could sign or trade
for a draft this offseason, and I thought, mom, you know,
didn't take any of those. Maybe into the last Robert, Nah,
you're good.
Speaker 19 (41:00):
Yeah, I'm good.
Speaker 17 (41:00):
But these and the grandkids said, you know, pap all,
you're getting slow.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
I understand, I understand. They did nothing to the secondary.
Is that going to be okay?
Speaker 17 (41:08):
Well, if they stay healthy, yes, you know, with a
new defensive coordinator, it's gonna be interested where he puts
the guys.
Speaker 11 (41:13):
You know.
Speaker 19 (41:14):
But it's all about the injuries.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
It's all about injury, all about tackling. I got Genos
don't like my guy didn't Genos don't come make a
tackle last year. I'm not sure he could cover anybody either.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
They don't.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
They don't either.
Speaker 17 (41:29):
Wow, they don't teach tackling.
Speaker 11 (41:31):
Now.
Speaker 17 (41:32):
You know, you push them, get them out of bounds,
and you know, you go on and put your fist
up in the air and go, Yeah.
Speaker 20 (41:38):
A little bit different now, yeah, rip the ball out.
Speaker 11 (41:41):
They're just trying to rip the ball out.
Speaker 17 (41:42):
Hey, fall disruption, self preservation for a defensive back, if
we only had it back then.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
I'm not sure they did a good enough job of
running them out of bounds or just knocking him to
the ground.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
Either.
Speaker 17 (41:53):
Well, some of them, you can't. You know, some of
these running backs are a little swift, a little stronger.
You can sometimes you have to tackle the old way.
Speaker 11 (42:00):
You know.
Speaker 17 (42:00):
I saw last year in the Super Bowl the kid
from Iowa, or maybe it wasn't a Super Bowl, but
he tackled Henry.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
And oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that was.
Speaker 17 (42:09):
A great form to have, you know, six' five against
six foot lower guy.
Speaker 11 (42:13):
Wins.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
Yeah, uh it's awesome to have you. Both, joe we
always talk about the offensive. Line, yeah, uh this will
BE i, think most believe the best offensive line That
Joe burrow has played.
Speaker 11 (42:25):
BEHIND i believe that. RIGHT i think there's still some
pieces to be.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
Changed but will it be a good offensive.
Speaker 11 (42:32):
LINE i think it'll be a really good offensive. One
do you if they can stay? HEALTHY i, mean the
big thing for this line is staying. Healthy you've got
two good.
Speaker 18 (42:38):
Tackles Right mems is a, Monster orlando is very very,
solid very good left.
Speaker 11 (42:43):
Tackle you've got Fair child at left. Guard had a great.
Speaker 18 (42:48):
Preseason he, did but he's gonna Have he's that rookie
right so he's gonna have some rookie mistakes and some
things he hasn't seen. Before you Got carris in the, middle,
obviously great. Center my big question marks right, guard you,
know Is Lucas. Patrick the, guy or do we need
to Get risener in there and see if he's the.
Guy he's apparently a really really good pass protector and
(43:11):
if that's the kind of offense you're gonna, run you
need the best guy out there that's gonna pass protect
and keep job on his.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Feet they played with fire last, year especially a, guard
and you look at the game On sunday with The
browns do With Miles garrett is move them all o
over the, place, right so like he doesn't just come
off the. EDGE i think of last year him eating at,
times you, Know Alex kappa. Alive so to me that
Like Dylan fairchild's gonna have A welcome to THE nfl.
Moment absolutely you.
Speaker 11 (43:35):
Can count on.
Speaker 18 (43:36):
That he'll bet'll probably wear a lineup first in my,
mind then he'll go over and Test lucas, right and
then he'll go out to the tackles so he can't get.
Anywhere but if he wears one of those two guards,
out he's gonna sit there and wear them.
Speaker 11 (43:47):
Out until they figure it.
Speaker 2 (43:48):
Out it could be a long.
Speaker 3 (43:49):
Day, yeah what was your welcome to THE nfl?
Speaker 11 (43:51):
Moment might welcome to THE nfl? Moment, YEAH i was so.
GOOD i didn't have.
Speaker 2 (43:55):
Any good at what right tackle play foot? Gotcha, OKAY
i wasn't. Sure you didn't have like a moment where you're,
like oh, boy this IS i ain't A Texas tech.
Speaker 18 (44:06):
Anymore, well, yeah the first freaking, game, okay, yeah who
was it to? BLOCK i WOULDN'T i was, HECK i
was just, playing uh field. GOAL i wasn't even playing
in the. Game so my second, yes, okay, UH i

Speaker 17 (48:36):
RID i wanted to beat everybody up in the card.
Speaker 2 (48:39):

Speaker 2 (48:49):
Dirt you, know it just rolled. Me that's pretty. Good

JERSEY i Was alway's face down. Right, Okay well that's you,
know that's. Nice welcome to THE.
Speaker 3 (49:05):
Nfl, uh do you The.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
Bengals the consensus is, good but we need to see
from the defense and the offensive line something we didn't
see last year. Before we believe this team can be.
Great would you would you guys mesh with that? Consensus?
Speaker 19 (49:20):
YEAH i wouldn't. Know let's stay, there you, know let's.
Speaker 17 (49:23):
IMPROVE i mean the, secondary they they got, veterans so
hopefully they take into this new, system you, know and
go from.
Speaker 21 (49:33):
There.
Speaker 18 (49:34):
YEAH i think with this new, system, THOUGH i think
it's going to be. Easier IT'S i think lou just
ran a difficult system for.
Speaker 11 (49:41):
The young guys to figure.
Speaker 18 (49:42):
Out AND i think With al he he knows how to,
coach and he's coached. This you, Know hecker is a
great coordinator At Notre. Dame look what he did for those, guys,
Right so if he's going to bring the heat like
he did At Notre, dame it's gonna be fun to.
WATCH i, think you, know we we're beating them up
right now because the tackling and they just got crushed
every preseason. Game but they weren't running, anything they weren't showing.
(50:05):
Anything they were just getting their guys on film to
see what they, had. Right they didn't even have the
old guys playing.
Speaker 3 (50:11):
Much, yeah we'll.
Speaker 2 (50:13):
See it's always awesome to have you. Both you guys
get here, early you join, me you Support, anthony you
support the, foundation and it's awesome to have great.
Speaker 11 (50:21):
Cause, yeah.
Speaker 2 (50:23):
You, know so it's always. Cool AND i said this To,
anthony like your teammates show up every single year it's
like he, asks and you guys go wearing what?
Speaker 18 (50:31):
Time, NO i think that was just the way our team.
Won and we're all to this, day we're all. Tight
we see each. Other it's like we're back in the locker,
room but we love each.
Speaker 2 (50:40):
Other but you're not that way with me AND i
were come hang. OUT i come hang out.
Speaker 11 (50:46):
With, them though it's a, different different vibe in the
locker room that it is in the.
Speaker 17 (50:49):
Workplace, well well this here's here's the, story, right very, much,
quiet Quiet. Joe three weeks, Ago Guy frasier put something
together For Dick. Lebau, Right Ray griffin came down From.
Columbus Ron simkins came back in From, michigan just just
for a two hour event With dick Lebow and and
Lebol they were asked of what made him coach so,
(51:11):
long and he, says these guys here sitting, Here i'm
saying to listen to the. Stories it's like it was
just yesterday and his mind is still.
Speaker 19 (51:18):
Sharp he recited the night Before.
Speaker 17 (51:20):
Christmas, yeah he. Did just hear him, talking you, know
he's looking at.
Speaker 19 (51:27):
It he's, like these guys.
Speaker 17 (51:28):
Sitting here, laughing telling, jokes you, Know lewis breeding big
Instigator breach was, there.
Speaker 19 (51:33):
You, Know Guy, fraser Then Dick lebo.
Speaker 17 (51:36):
Goes Guy fraser said more today than he did his
career with us at The, bengals and you know it
was just his mind with all the. Guys yet he remembers.
Speaker 2 (51:44):
This the little things remarkable. Football, yeah no, question, gentlemen
thanks so. Much thank you the Great Robert jackson and
half Of Joe. Walter you look, awesome, man see you
all the TIME.
Speaker 19 (51:59):
I said you looked half Of. JOE i called you Half.
Speaker 11 (52:01):
John, NO i appreciate that.
Speaker 19 (52:02):
Thing, yeah now you can pay me all.
Speaker 2 (52:05):
Right joe's not used to me saying all these Nice,
oh it's usually uglier than.
Speaker 19 (52:09):
Yeah so that's what.
Speaker 2 (52:11):

jay On twitter at By Jay. Morrison, jay how are You.
Speaker 11 (53:31):
Bill doing?
Speaker 12 (53:32):
Great ready for the season to finally get?
Speaker 2 (53:34):
Here we finally have games to, discuss which is exciting to.
Me they can't lose to The browns In week one, again, RIGHT.
Speaker 12 (53:45):
I mean they. Can i'd be stunned if they. DID i,
mean we were staying that last. Year they can't lose
to The patriots their home In week. One we were
saying it two years, ago they can't lose The browns In.
Cleveland weird things happen in, openers but this team just
seems IT'S i, know there's a lot of jokes about
they practice in the morning instead of the, afternoon but
there was so much more that went into the way
(54:07):
they handled this offseason and some meaningful things and just
the fact that everybody's, healthy AND i JUST i can't
see them coming out laying an egg AND i can't
See creveland playing well above when we know that team is.
Capable that's the.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
Thing like it's it's the track record of the slow,
starts how proactive they've been in addressing. That It's Joe burrow's,
health it's having no players on the injury. Report LIKE
i get. It openers are. Weird playing on the road
is always. Tough it is a rivalry. Game they're playing Against. Joe,
LIKE i understand all, that but it's, like if you're
zero and one at the end of, it at the
(54:44):
end of the opener of this, YEAR i don't know
then what you do in terms of going back to
the drawing board to get ready for season.
Speaker 12 (54:49):
Openers, YEAH i don't. EITHER i mean YOU i want
to say they're sick of talking about or answering questions
about the slowst, arts but they brought it up on
their own players. Coaches it is a. THING i just
it's it's one of those things where they are desperate
(55:10):
to end that, narrative and, yeah if it happens, again
then it's if we're going to be right back next
summer doing the exact same. Thing regardless they could win
The Super bowl and we're still going to be talking
about slow starts next year because it's just an ongoing
thing that they haven't been able to.
Speaker 2 (55:26):
Answer how long is the leash For Lucas patrick at right?
Speaker 12 (55:30):
GUARD i think it's pretty long this. WEEK i don't
know that you would want to make a change and
throw a rookie in there In Jalen. Rivers AND i
don't know If Dalton reisner is ready. Yet forget scheme
and playbook and all. THAT i, mean the guy hasn't
(55:51):
played any sort of. Football and you, know we saw
With shamar how much he struggled once he finally ended
his hold. Out and in and. PLAYED i, mean the
guy's had a week of. Practice that would be a
big ask for him to step. In now if there's an,
injury of course you have, to BUT i think that
it's going to be they're going to ride With Lucas.
(56:12):
PATRICK i just can't see it looking bad enough where
they would have to pull. THEM i could see, it you,
know you. Could there could be enough issues where you, Say,
okay week, two we're making a. Change but to make
an end, game she hain't change with who you have
as a backup, currently it would have to be pretty.
Speaker 2 (56:27):
Egregious you Mentioned Shamar, Stewart so he ends his hold,
out he shows up the camp AND i, think you,
know for a while he was kind of all anybody talked.
About he was, disruptive he was hard to, block and
then and then things kind of got. Quiet as it
relates To Shamar stewart during the back half of training,
camp what do you expect from, him not so much
(56:47):
just On, sunday but over the course of his rookie.
Speaker 12 (56:49):
Season, YEAH i think he's a. DUDE i think he
is really going to bring some juice to that pass
rush what they've been. Needing it could be the catalyst
to this whole. DEFENSE i, mean there's so many issues
in that. Secondary, yeah that secondary can be. Better but
even if the even if the secondary has a slow
start getting used to Out golden's, system if you if
(57:12):
you Add schamar as a real threat opposite To Trey,
hendrickson and then on third, down if if you Move
schamar inside And Miles Murphy Joseph osat can start getting
some pressure off the edge on the other side From.
Speaker 3 (57:24):
TREY i just.
Speaker 12 (57:24):
Really think this pass rush is going to be much
more dynamic this year and it's gonna it's going to
create a domino For it's gonna help the secondary play,
better it's going to lead to turnover sacks all, that
AND i think he is the lynch thin. THERE i
know there is so much talk about the only four
and a half sacks in, college but just different different,
(57:48):
scheme different guys getting the ball. QUICK i think he's
going to make an impact AND i think we're going
to see it right off the Bat sunday In cleveland
BECAUSE i think they are going to have to Have
tray on a little bit of a pitch count since
he just back to doing football.
Speaker 2 (58:01):
Activity Jay morrison's WITH Us Bengals talk Dot com also
on The growler. Podcast the situation at safety AND i
know you've talked about it at length and talked about
it really all off season because a lot of us
were expecting at all these different off season mile posts
for them to add a safety free, agency the, draft cutdown,
(58:22):
day maybe trade, somebody trade for, somebody pick up one
of these guys who's still on the outside looking. In,
uh what do you make of their approach and what
would some what some would call a lack of approach
at safety all off season?
Speaker 12 (58:37):
Long, yeah it's still head. SCRATCHING i, mean it took
them a, while but they finally addressed guard and then
went out and Got Dalton reisner and they could have
had him.
Speaker 11 (58:48):
Back In march for about the same amount of. Money the.
Speaker 12 (58:50):
SAFETY i don't know what the problem is. There maybe
there's not A Dalton riisner type out there they feel
could be a fifth year but it just free, agency the,
draft any point along the way they could have added
to that. Room and the fact that they didn't needs
you to, believe, okay they are all in On jordan
(59:12):
battle On Geno Stone, well he Asked ginostone to take
a pay. Cut so are you really all in on
a guy that you're asking your starter to take a pay.
Cut it's just that's the left line of defense for
a defense that has, struggled giving up big plays and long.
Drives AND i just that's the most puzzling aspect of
this entire roster construction this. SEASON i don't know there's
(59:34):
a fix out. THERE i Know Justin simmons is still out.
THERE i don't know how much that guy has. Left
but there were other options that would have been better
than what's on this team right now that they could have.
Done they could have gone after in free, agency in the,
draft and they didn't for whatever, Reason and that could
be the thing they look back on this year and
that could be the biggest regret once they see how
(59:55):
this thing.
Speaker 2 (59:56):
Ends no, Question jay can't thank you off as. Always,
Man we appreciate. It we'll talk to you next.

Speaker 14 (01:04:52):
AM i kid On?
Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
Christmas this?
Speaker 14 (01:04:54):
Morning first at two seventy two regular season games about
to kick off hours and draft season is officially over for, me.
Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
Though how many drafts in the leagues do you participate?
Speaker 14 (01:05:08):
In, well Accounting Basketball? League which are for? Real Because
i've read, MONEY i did about eighty drafts since The Super.
Bowl eighty, drafts INCLUDING i feel like fifteen in the
past ten. Days so it has been quite the, marathon all.
Speaker 2 (01:05:25):
Right among those eighty, drafts give me players you have
the most of in the least Of.
Speaker 14 (01:05:33):
Yeah it's one of my favorite parts of the process
is when it's all, done is looking at my where
my exposure is and WHERE i don't have, It and quite,
simply the GUYS i have the most of these are
the ONES i really. Love so if you still have a,
draft draft them on your team on the. Line and
then there's some THAT i just don't have many at,
all if at any season long. League So Jordan, Mason Austin,
eckler those are my two running. BACKS i love The vikings,
(01:05:56):
backfield BUT i Think mason's actually better Than Aaron joe
for the. Season he's going a couple of rounds. Later
SO i love That Austin eckler was a GUY i
gobbled up all summer in the Late lai. Rounds with
some recent roster, moves he is in a big.
Speaker 12 (01:06:08):
Role he stays.
Speaker 14 (01:06:09):
HEALTHY i think he's going to be a SNEAKY ppr
running back this. Year that receiver Is Brian Thomas, JUNIOR
Dj moore And Cedric. Tillman Brian Thomas junior is a
GUY i love at the end Of round one early round.
TWO i think he's in for another big season in
the second year with The. JAGS i Love Dj moore
now That Ben johnson's there The bears an. Offense i'm
intrigued By Cedric tillman of The. BROWNS i think they're
going to be playing front Behind placas. There filman's a
(01:06:31):
third year receiver and a break. Up my most tight
end Is George, kittle and that's today either. Drafted one
of those top three are waited to the verrier and
now GUYS i didn't touch hardly at, all and definitely
in my season long leagues Or i'm seting lineups Include
Patrick mahomes a lot of that's more because he's.
Speaker 12 (01:06:47):
Part of tier.
Speaker 14 (01:06:47):
Two he's the top of, it AND i don't want
to take the first guy in that tier, one SO
i don't have any of. HIM i don't really think
The chiefs With Ross sheetrice are going to get off
to a great bath start in that passing. Attack Jay
Kwon barkley he plays tonight though he's coming off The Super.
Bowl that exposure is just all those carries at his,
Price i'm. Concerned AND i also went under on most
of his season along props like rushing totals and. Such Tyreek,
(01:07:10):
hill no, THANKS i just passed go on him all.
YEAR i don't trust. Him he is playing For payday.
Though that's the one that could burn me because we
all know what he's capable. Of and Then Garrett, wilson
it's just The jets passing game as a, whole being
that he was such an expensive piece of. It he
didn't find his way onto any.
Speaker 2 (01:07:28):
Of my D Dan klaskins is with us On twitter
at Dan. Klaskins let's talk. Backfields give me some groups
of running backs to pay attention to for week.
Speaker 14 (01:07:36):
One, yeah if you're asking me What i'm really intrigued
by outside of my own fantasy lineup's bets and The
bengals In week, one it's all these emerging backfields and
things that fantasy managers are making some. Assumptions but The
vikings back THAT i mentioned, Before Jordan, Mason Aaron, jones
they play The. Bears i'm anxious to see how those BECAUSE
i think that's most. Play i'm also really intrigued by
(01:07:59):
jackson lim Lim cohen come over.
Speaker 11 (01:08:02):
There last.
Speaker 14 (01:08:02):
Year his offense Produced Bucky, irbing who was the rookie breakout.
Speaker 11 (01:08:06):
That was a league.
Speaker 14 (01:08:06):
Winner now he's In. Jacksonville is A Travis? Danna is
A Tanks? Bigsby is it by shell touton the? ROOKIE
i think it's going to be a, mess but if
any one of them, emerges it will be a big
deal in. Fantasy i'm axous to see how breaks out week.
One The, Chargers, patriots And broncos also top in the.
List The chargers Of Marion hampton the ROOKIE i think
even for a big. Season the fact That Naji harris
(01:08:28):
is back this, week it could take some time to
develop as it could In New england Where Traveon, henderson
the local high school, star obviously played At Ohio. State
most local people are familiar with. Him he's the most
hyped up rookie running back there is in fantasy in
the month Of. AUGUST i still Think Ermandre stevenson is
going to have a role. There so we'll see in
another ROOKIE R J Hearn harvey battle WITH. Jk dobbins
(01:08:51):
and That broncos backfield. SITUATION i Like harvey in the long,
run but the short Term dobbins might be the better play.
Mom and that's the one message. Here draft these young.
Rookies you draft these rookie running, backs you gotta give
him a chance he get. GOING i always see. It
people draft him and then two three weeks in the
deason they cut, him and then by week eight or
nine they're winning. League so patience is a.
Speaker 2 (01:09:12):
Virtue every week for, Years i've asked you to give
me a weekly, stud dud and. Sleeper give me some,
studs duds and.
Speaker 14 (01:09:21):
Sleepers, Yes week, one let's get to, Him Devon. Achan
he is my highest projected non quarterback IN ppr. League this,
week there's been a lot of negative narrative around his,
injury his. Handstring he's limited for discipanse he and The.
DOLPHINS i think The dolphins are going to really take
it To, miami AND i Think ahm has a Huge
(01:09:43):
week one Versus. Colt hate to pick on The bengals.
DEFENSE i do think they got a lot. Better i'm
intrigued as a fan of the, team but In week
ONE i will pick against him going Against David. Najoku
his numbers With placo last year made him a tight
end three during the. SPAN i Think cincinnati's still gonna
have problems stop and. HIM i also like it over
four and a half, receptions WHICH i got in on it,
(01:10:04):
early so it is. Rising and then on The dutch
side Though Caleb, johnson another rookie running, BACK i just
said practice. PATION i drafted. HIM i think he's gonna
be something In, pittsburgh but this week first The Jets
Jalen warren And Kenneth gambell ahead of him on the depth.
Chart i've got him on about five or six of
my season long, team only one of, them and that's
good out in desperation as the end of my. Lineup
(01:10:26):
he needs to play his way in BUT i definitely
think big things are. Ahead And Cooper cup heakin of DOES.
Speaker 3 (01:10:31):
I mean this?
Speaker 14 (01:10:31):
GUY i MEAN i don't have him.
Speaker 11 (01:10:34):
On any teams.
Speaker 14 (01:10:34):
Either he could have been on my lease, list but
he's not gonna have a much of a huge fantasy ceiling.
Here so outside of a BORING ppr, Four i'm gonna
sit him Again San francisco and a couple of. Sleepers
i'm Going Trevor lawrence At carolina or excuse, me First
carolina And. Jacksonville. There carolina was the thirty second ranked
team and allowed more fantasy points to quarterbacks than anybody last.
(01:10:56):
YEAR i do think they got, better but not that much.
Better AND i really like When Trevor lawrence brings. Table
he's in my top ten this. Week And Ricky, piersoll you,
know the second year. Guy they're In San. Francisco Juwan
jennings is, back but they're pretty banged. UP i Think
pierce calls in for a good. Day i've got him
a day top thirty wide. OUT i think he's in
for a big. Season the head here for the forty nine,
ers they're In seattle and which should be a really
(01:11:18):
Intriguing week one.
Speaker 6 (01:11:18):
MATCHUP i like hearing.
Speaker 2 (01:11:20):

Do but let's just say posting a poll question required
(01:12:46):
required more effort than it needed. To BUT i have two.
Today one is very. Simple it's The bengals this coming.
Year we've talked about the. Record i've got him at
ten and. Seven i'm kind of curious in the regular,
season how does this end FOR choi one SEED Afc North,
champs not with the buy wildcard team or not the?
Playoffs vote now At. Moegar the other one is About
(01:13:09):
elie de La. Cruz is an unfair to characterize his
twenty twenty five season as a. DISAPPOINTMENT i think it
has been his season this YEAR i think has been a.
DISAPPOINTMENT i think obviously any player is more responsible for
his performance than any other, factor BUT i do think
there are other there are some other factors in. Play
his season this year has been relatively pedestrian statistically and.

Incredible here got The. Hube we've Got Sarah. Elise this is.
Incredible and in just a few, minutes as soon as
he gets done Reminding Robert jackson who he is one
of the greatest kickers in the history of THE. Nfl
as far As i'm, concerned because he went To Miama
(01:15:24):
Mater Scott High, school and, uh it's been years Since
i've seen, him years Since I've i've talked to him
on the. Air the Great Doug pelfrey is.
Speaker 21 (01:15:30):

Speaker 21 (01:15:40):
You, yeah got three, daughters then two of them, graduated
got their real jobs now down In lexington and youngest
daughters of senior in high school over At Dixie High,
school which is kind of a kind of hurts my, feelings,
hurts both of our feelings still in.
Speaker 2 (01:15:53):
There but that's.
Speaker 6 (01:15:54):
Okay that's been.
Speaker 21 (01:15:54):
Good So i'm still, married been married thirty two plus.
Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
Years that's. Awesome, yeah things are. Good, congratulate appreciate.
Speaker 3 (01:16:00):
It you.
Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
DROVE i was told you were driving in From.
Speaker 21 (01:16:03):
LEXINGTON i was down in just south Of lexington today
down In harrisburg and down To. Lexington and, YEAH i
had the long trip and have lots of.
Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
Traffic WHEN i think of the most community Minded bengals
players in my, LIFETIME i won't go one or. Two
it's one in one. A it's you And Anthony.
Speaker 21 (01:16:19):
Munyos NOW i Appreciate. ANTHONY i grew up obviously in the,
area went To Scott High, school same place you. Did
and the fun part for me WAS i got to
go To University kentucky and THEN i got to play
for The Cincinnai. Bengals so it, was you, know very
very cool for. Me but when you at the time
THAT i grew, up it Was anthony And jim were
two guys THAT i tried to be, like you, know
so They're anthony's he's. Awesome he he kind of sets
(01:16:40):
the bar really really, high not just because he's, tall
but because he's he's such a great. Guy and you,
KNOW i think he he saw the equity in this
community as far as you, know the people here In
cincinnati are, great great, people and they they wore people
who you, know who love this. Community and he's done,
that and he's definitely been a kind of a hero
for a lot of people look at and the same.
Speaker 2 (01:17:01):
Here well and for, me it's WHAT i love about
both of you is in the work that you've. Done you,
know a lot of folks can raise money and a
lot of folks can put their face on something or
their name on. Something What i've always loved About, anthony
And i've said it about you is you roll your
sleeves up and you get involved in the work that
your stabs have.
Speaker 6 (01:17:17):
Done.
Speaker 21 (01:17:17):
Right and so you, know kind of WHEN i was,
playing the thing THAT i gravitated towards, was you, know
here's the. Kicker you, KNOW i have so much, energy
so MUCH i wanted to, do And i'm the. Kicker
And Jim jim embraced. That you, Know Jim jim's, Like
i'm the, kicker and he's And jim's always been great
of embracing being the kicker in the. ROLE i hated
being a kicker BECAUSE i just was so used to
(01:17:38):
being you, know, quarterback, kicker, safety, punter, playing you, know
all these different, positions different. Sports AND i went from
that to, like HERE i. Am you, KNOW i have no.
Meetings you, KNOW i have no plays to. Learn you,
KNOW i just need to kick the ball straight, right
and you, know if you have a great, snapper greyt,
holder WHICH i did for a number of years And
Lee johnson And Greg truett and you, KNOW i just
kind of just kicked the ball. Straight THEN i get.
Paid so so it worked out really. Well and then
(01:18:01):
from there it's kind of, like you, know what else
DO i? Do SO i started having meetings down At
old Spinning. FIELD i had, meetings you, know they were you,
know they had offense and defensive. MEETINGS i had you,
know kicks your kids, meetings and had just an incredible
group of people BECAUSE i grew up in the area
that got behind me both from my church but also
just people THAT i knew over the. Years and SO
i mean we had several hundred. VOLUNTEERS i had a
(01:18:21):
guy Named Ted klumper who still works with, me that
kind of ran the whole. Thing so he created a
order where my disorder he kind of brought a, order and,
so you, know just took that and just grew. It
and that was what my passion, was, honestly just going
back and using the platform or playing with mngles and
so it all kind of worked. Out BUT i, MEAN
i was In wolvale yesterday working with a group that
(01:18:43):
does housing for prisoners that get out of out of
jails In lexington to. Day you, KNOW i, said working
with an affordable housing group THAT i work, With SO
i don't, know it's. FUN i enjoy.
Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
It you mentioned training camp BECAUSE i was we broadcast
from Training camp this. Year Tony pike AND i we
were talking, about, like you, know what do you think
life is like for everything? Fearsome THEN i, said you,
Know i've Heard Doug pelfrey talk about what life was
like as A bengals kicker With Lee johnson back in the,
day AND i think they asked the guys now to
do a little bit. More we were watching their. Fakes
(01:19:13):
we were watching like their fake fueld goal. Operation we're,
like we're AND i, said you, Know doug used to
talk about like they'd run off and go play nine.
Speaker 21 (01:19:20):
Holes now there's no doubt we played. Eighteen, YEAH i
had a whole round here during. Practice so, literally you,
know we had almost three three practices back. Then i'll
give you quick quick. Stories you can cut me, OFF
i run. On so we would have like a special
teams meeting that like literally you show, up show your
face and you're. Going so we would do, that and
we we were up At Wilmington, college so we would
go up to Snow hill and play and play eighteen
(01:19:40):
holes of. Golf we'd, skip you, know skip bunch and
you know we're not we're gonna burn energy or. Anything
so we'd get back just in time for practice and
we'd you, know we'd we'd eat you know at the,
turn you, know a snow. Hill but you, know, honestly
it was just you, know just go play golf and
then come back and we would watch that's back when
a blockbuster video was. Around we'd rent thirty plus. Movies
(01:20:01):
you know This this Was Dave Shula Bruce coslet you,
KNOW i don't think anybody really even knew we were,
there so they didn't miss. Us so you, know LIKE
i Think donado's opened up up. There so we go
up and do their we do their, autographs, signings.
Speaker 19 (01:20:15):
And you, know we got free.
Speaker 21 (01:20:16):
Pizza so it's kind of just how kind of camp.
Was probably my best story of camp was that they
came to me and, said, hey we want you to
do A beat The pro contest ON. TV i was,
like very. Cool i'm a horrible, golfer but. Sure and
so they're, like it's up In. Dayton i'm, like we're In,
Willmington Like i'm From. Kentucky that's that's gonna be kind
of far in order to get back to. Practice and they, said,
no we'll take you in a helicopter AND i was like.
(01:20:39):
WHAT i was, like all, right? Cool SO I i
met him at the over at the soccer. Field they
picked me And Greg truet didn't have anything to. Do
he was hanging with the takers that. Day so me
and him got on a helicopter and literally flew To
dayton and hit Hit My beat The pro. Shot they
filmed it ON. Tv took a couple of, shots got
got back on the helicopter and flew. Back, well it
was were they weren't supposed to have any field, time
(01:21:01):
but that day they had to walk, through and so
they're all out on the on the game field and
here's me And True we're flying in on this helicopter
And Walmington college there wasn't a whole lot going. On
so as we're flying, in it's almost like The president's coming.
In so it's, like you, know here comes these everybody's
even on the, field they're all kind of looking up to, say,
like who's these guys flying? In, well when the thing
about the way the campus was set, up when they
(01:21:22):
let us off with the soccer, field no one saw,
us but we had to walk past the football, field
and so they see me And truant come walking by
while they've been outside on the fielding and they're, like
what does our kickers doing? There so, anyway so, yeah
so that was my life at.
Speaker 2 (01:21:36):
Training special was This Al roberts who was The Special
teams Called Roberts Marv. Braden, okay so not exactly running
a tight.
Speaker 21 (01:21:43):
Ship they worried more about the real, players The Special teams.
Guys so you, know as, kickers as long as you
kick the ball, straight it's a pretty good. Life And
i'm sure they do have them doing, more you know,
nowadays especially with you, know people be probably snapping shots
on social media and the coaches would find. Out but back,
then no one really knew what we were, doing didn't
care as long as we kicked it.
Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
Straight it's not like you kicked forever. Ago it's been a,
WHILE i, get but it's been forever. Ago but even
like when you, played if you would trot it out
on the, field AND i know they asked lead to
try some of, them but if you would attempt a fifty,
yarder that was a big. Deal and now Like evan
McPherson is expected right to not drill every single, one
but you gotta make most of. Them and that was
(01:22:23):
for those of us who grew up a while. Ago
that wasn't like always that was the, case, Right.
Speaker 21 (01:22:28):
So it's unbelievable what the guys do. Nowadays it just
really is. THAT i, mean you look at any, sport any,
position everybody's just. Better and you, Know i'm Sure Jim
breech looked at it like as the guys coming up behind,
him as you, know these guys are just stronger and better.
Whatever SO i think the whole REASON i even got
drafted by The. Bengals Is jim was an incredible, kicker
set all kinds of records, here hit a lot of overtime,
(01:22:49):
kicks you, know all the, time leading. Score you, know
hopefully we'll get into The ring Of honor next. Year you,
Know I'm i'm his big as. Fan so at the same,
TIME i think when he was coming, through the knack
on him as he didn't hit a lot of the
long field, goals and The bengals were in a situation,
where you, Know anthony had just left and kind of
all the kind of the just the real hooday guys
that we knew back in the, days they were just totally,
(01:23:10):
disassembled and so they knew that we needed somebody who
could kick long field. Goals so playing At, KENTUCKY i
WAS i think eight of, eleven like seventy three percent
from fifty plus in. College so that helped the ton
and so they essentially drafted. ME i remember At Wilmington,
COLLEGE i had a sixty seven yard field goal in
a scrimmage And jim told me that, day he, said,
(01:23:31):
congratulations you just made the. Team and it was just
because they knew they needed longer field, goals and so
for two. YEARS i think my first and second YEAR
i lef the league in most forty plus field goals
and so that gave me the. Chance BUT i, REMEMBER
i think it was ninety. Four it was the ninety
three or ninety, Four me And Morten, ANDERSON i think
hit fifty two fifty yard field goals on the same,
day and it was AN nfl record because they'd never
(01:23:51):
had two fifty. Plus right, NOWADAYS i mean they, could
they could hit five in a.
Speaker 2 (01:23:54):
DAY i mean this is more than, that, RIGHT i,
mean there's there might be as many as eight nine
on to give AN Nfl.
Speaker 21 (01:24:00):
Sunday, Right, Well i'm saying like two on the me
hitting two fret plus.
Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
YEAHEAH a lot of, guys.
Speaker 21 (01:24:04):
You, know they'll they may nowadays they'll try anything outside fifty.
Words before it was kind of like it, was well.
Speaker 2 (01:24:10):
They'll they'll try, him and you're you're expected to make it,
right you, Know whereas WHEN i remember if if you
came out on the field for a fifty three, yarder it's, Like,
okay you, know he might make. It and now it's it's.
Expected heavan McPherson is expected to make those.
Speaker 21 (01:24:23):
Kicks right And the great thing about a fifty from
the from the mindset of a, kicker a fifty, plus
nobody really totally expects you to make, it you, know guys. Do,
sure they're expected to make it more. Now but WHEN
i was, playing like if you were to miss a
forty seven, yarder it was, like oh he, missed you,
know you were inside. Fifty but when you're when you're
saying fifty, plus then everybody's, like you, know it was
(01:24:44):
just you, know it's. Gratuitous you shouldn't nessly have to make.
It and so with, us you, know having you, know
a stronger, leg it makes it a little easier to make,
it so you just go out and kick your own.
Kick so it's actually easier to kick a fifty plus
than it is a forty.
Speaker 2 (01:24:58):
Three, Really, YEAH i ever heard it frame that.
Speaker 21 (01:25:00):
Way, Yeah, SO i mean that's basically that's why to,
me it was a lot easier hitting fifty plus versus
a forty two or thirty eight or something like.
Speaker 2 (01:25:06):
That when you're Watching Evan macpherson may try to make
kicks that will put the team in The Super. BOWL i,
mean like you had a lot of last second kicks
and you know the running kind of gag at the
end of the. Year you would always make the, kick
like On Christmas eve and we'd finished four and, twelve,
Right BUT i, mean do you do you put yourself
in his head, Going, God i've made a lot of
(01:25:26):
really big kicks that have won. Games but oh, boy imagine.
Speaker 21 (01:25:30):
That to, me long kicks and pressure kicks were the
two easiest, kicks, really, yeah because they're the ones that you,
know people they don't always expect you to make. Them
oh this is more. Pressure, well you're actually more. Focused
so to, me the hardest kick was we're down thirty eight,
seventeen that's the fourth, quarter you, know and they want
to kick a field, goal, Right everybody's, like why are
(01:25:50):
we kicking a field? Goal this is not going to make.
Speaker 3 (01:25:52):
It you.
Speaker 21 (01:25:52):
Know that was always the hardest kick because you're really
not you, know it's just kind of you're just going
out there to. Kick it doesn't really mean. Anything you're you,
know it's a thirty something yard fel so you're not as.
Focused you, know a bad, snap bad, hole you, know
just anything you're not being totally locked in was harder
than being totally locked. In and so like for you, Know,
EVAN i, think you, know first of, all he's he's
(01:26:12):
been amazing since he's been. There you, KNOW i know
he had a little, ub but he's he's an amazing.
Kicker he's got great, legs, strands he's very, positive he's you,
know he's you, Know Darren simmons is a great special
teams coach because he's, kicked so he understands the. Mindset
but when you when you go out there and the
team believes in, you the city believes in, you your
coach believes in, you your quarterback believes in, you it's
really easy to do. Well and right now that's where he's.
(01:26:34):
AT i, mean everybody has so much confidence in, him
and he's you, know he's got such a such popping
his leg he's you, know he's not really gonna come
up short from. Kicks it's just going out there and
getting a good, snap good holding and being on you,
know kind of on.
Speaker 19 (01:26:45):
Rhythm you.
Speaker 21 (01:26:46):
Know it's like everybody calls time out at the end
of The tosha that actually helps you as for, You, no,
NO i mean it's JUST i, mean it just gives
you more time to go do your. Routine WHERE i
struggled was if you, know you didn't, know or AM
i gonna? Kick AM i not gonna? Kick and AS
i you, know three four years into, it And, Jim
Jim breach was actually helping. Me he was kind of
(01:27:08):
a consultant at the. Time he, basically you, know we
worked it out to where we would tell the you,
know we'd tell the, coaches you know pretty much inside
this don't even ask. Us, yes we're ready to make it,
right you. Know so if it was going to be
fifty five fifty, six you, know maybe they'd ask. You
but if it was thirty eight going one, way you,
know they don't even need to ask. You and so
you're kind of, like AM i?
Speaker 6 (01:27:26):
Going AM i not?
Speaker 21 (01:27:26):
Going you just kind of locked in and just knew
you were going at a certain.
Speaker 2 (01:27:30):
Distance we had a guy in the preseason make a
seventy yard. Kick crazy, Remarkable, yeah but that you, know
that's the records are made to be. Broken it's obviously
not an official, record BUT i think there's a lot
of us who THOUGHT i would never see, it and
he made it was with some, ease, RIGHT i mean
it that ball. WENT i never see a guy make
a seventy year or field.
Speaker 21 (01:27:47):
Goal, SO i, Mean i've made seventy yards in. PRACTICE
i did at a camp down AT Eku and you,
know you see somebody like like A David. ACRES i
knew him pretty. Well you, know he's made seventy. Plus
i've seen him make. It so you, know a lot
of the, GUYS a lot of the guys can can make.
It you just never get the, opportunity, Right, SO i,
mean you, know to your point earlier fifty something WHEN
(01:28:08):
i was, playing was a big. DEAL i REMEMBER i
had one. OPPORTUNITY i missed one kick short my career
and it was a sixty four Against. Cleveland i'd made
it in pregame and WHEN i remember going, out it
was right at halftime AND i was going out on
the field and you just you could hear everybody's, like you,
know oh my. God everybody everybody kind of stood up
and everybody got started, cheering AND i lost my. Focus
(01:28:28):
and that's really as a, kicker you, know it's losing
that just that edge for just JUST i mean just a.
Millisecond it messes you. Up AND i was, like this
is gonna be cool Because i'm getting ready to make.
It BECAUSE i was LIKE i KNEW i had the
distance it, was AND i LITERALLY i just missaid it
and hit it. Short so AND i think there's so
many guys in the league that can actually make seventy
seventy plus you just you don't even realize it because
(01:28:50):
you you judge them based, on you, know doing it
on That. Sunday but a lot of, guys you, know they're,
kicking you, know whether it be in, altitude whether.
Speaker 6 (01:28:56):
It be in.
Speaker 21 (01:28:57):
Heat it's it's so much easier than you, know kicking in, cold, wet,
rainy kind of into the, wind you, know pressure type.
Speaker 2 (01:29:05):
Kicks twenty five years since you kicked for the. Pen
crazy That, jesus that's. REMARKABLE i knew, that BUT i
didn't know, that if that makes any. Sense it's awesome
to have. You it's it's good to have you on the.
Show good to see.
Speaker 21 (01:29:16):
You it's good to be, here and it's good to
see that you've had the success you have so and
Obviously anthony's. Great anything we can do to Health, anthony

Speaker 6 (01:30:47):
Nice twelve minute. DRIVE i had to go real.
Speaker 2 (01:30:50):
Far it's awesome to have. You thanks for Having did
you learn anything from listening To?
Speaker 9 (01:30:54):
DOUG i did AS i said WHEN i sat down
AS i was pulling, in he was talking about how he.
Speaker 6 (01:31:01):
Played you, know he was in high. School he was
a quarterback and he PLAYED.
Speaker 9 (01:31:03):
dB he actually went To kentucky as A dB AND
i was a high school, quarterback AND i wanted to
ask him what happened when you got into? College then
ALL i can REMEMBER i get on the. SIDELINE i
had no idea what to, do, RIGHT i have three
hours of trying to figure out how do you be a?
Kicker how do you just stand? THERE i didn't know
it was. Weird it took a long time to feel
(01:31:25):
comfortable with how do how much do you? Stretch we
didn't have any nets until my first year with The.
Bengals even WHEN i was with The, RAIDERS i didn't
have a sideline.
Speaker 2 (01:31:35):
Net so could you stay?
Speaker 6 (01:31:37):
Warm?
Speaker 2 (01:31:38):
Yeah, YEAH i mean LIKE i mean, like could you
kick into? Something? No, no that wasn't word there was.
Speaker 9 (01:31:43):
It all through college or my first year of, PROS
i didn't have a net to kick, into so.
Speaker 2 (01:31:48):
So you would go through warm ups and then maybe
not kick.
Speaker 6 (01:31:51):
A ball for UNTIL i kicked the ball in the. Game.
Speaker 9 (01:31:53):
Wow it it was kind of different NOW i think about.
It you, know at the time is just what it.
Was but, YEAH i got to The bengals and actually.
Speaker 6 (01:32:02):
Had a net for the. Sideline, wow there's a big step.
Speaker 2 (01:32:04):
Up, yeah sounds like. It evan McPherson had a good
preseason And i'm hopeful that he can go back to
being a weapon this.
Speaker 9 (01:32:12):
YEAR i don't think there's a. Doubt, yeah, yeah you,
know it's, uh it's one of those. Things you tweak,
this you tweak that you, want you want to get
better and AND i think in his, case he's decided,
that you, know my first year was pretty good AND
i kind of let's go back to that and just
build on. That and that's what he's. Done and he's
(01:32:33):
hit the ball great in the. PRESEASON i imagine he's
gonna have a great.
Speaker 2 (01:32:36):
Year the the thing he benefited from year one Was
Kevin huber And Clark, Harris, RIGHT i, MEAN i remember
talking To Shane, graham who's like, saying two GUYS i
had no more than a decade, before and then since
there's been there's been some shake, up and there's gonna
be a new long snapper this. Year does that break
up in continuity or the continued lack of continuity for
lack of a better way of putting, it concern you at?
Speaker 9 (01:32:57):
All, no because by this time they've taken, hundreds hundreds
and hundreds of. Snaps so now if that's not a concern,
whatsoever because THE i mean the two guys they Had
adamies that they let go and the guy they have
now were considered the best in college coming, out so
they're really really talented at what they're. Doing and the,
(01:33:20):
holder you, know the punters now everybody all the punters,
hold so they've grown up as. Holders so NOW i
have no issues that that's going to be a concern at.
Speaker 2 (01:33:30):
All what's interesting is when they Drafted Brad, robbins that
was one of the first THINGS i looked at was
what was The michigan's success rate on? Kicks BECAUSE i
knew he. Held it's got to be part of.
Speaker 9 (01:33:39):
The invent especially when you have somebody, well the, kick
not Just evan, THOUGH i mean. Everybody sure the guy
kicks a seventy, yarder AND i wouldn't think he was
going to be the first.
Speaker 6 (01:33:48):
GUY i thought the guy In dallas.
Speaker 9 (01:33:49):
Might but there's a whole bunch of guys will probably
make a seventy yarder. Eventually so everybody kicks his long field.
Goals so that's a huge weapon.
Speaker 6 (01:33:57):
You got to. Build you gotta be able to.
Speaker 9 (01:33:59):
Make sure the guys handling, it because all he can
control is the.
Speaker 6 (01:34:03):
Kick he can't handle the snap of the.
Speaker 9 (01:34:04):
Hole so be you has to be, comfortable AND i
think Knowing, darren unless it's one hundred percent, comfort he
wouldn't have made a.
Speaker 2 (01:34:11):
Change was was your training camp experience Like dougs where
you basically didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:34:15):
Have to go H there was a lot of.
Speaker 15 (01:34:18):
Downtime, yes we didn't have a lot of.
Speaker 9 (01:34:20):
MEETINGS i remember my first year With Forrest. Greig we
started at. Seven we had the evening meeting at. Seven
it gave me enough time to go play, nine really it.
Speaker 6 (01:34:28):
Did, yeah BUT i.
Speaker 9 (01:34:29):
Had to carry my bag and that Was i'm thinking
back in the middle of training camp because we actually
ran a lot When forrest was.
Speaker 15 (01:34:35):
THERE i was actually tired after. Practicing it really.
Speaker 9 (01:34:39):
Worked everybody had to do, running And i'm, thinking how
stupid WAS i.
Speaker 21 (01:34:46):
Back?
Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
Around you, Know i'm getting done at ten.
Speaker 9 (01:34:48):

i play eighteen. Holes you, Know i'm.
Speaker 6 (01:34:53):
Getting done in like two.
Speaker 9 (01:34:54):
Hours BUT i didn't do that every, night but there
was there was downtime for. Us i'd go over to
the bottom of the pile and play ping, pong OR
i read tons and tons of. Books but, yeah there
was definitely down time compared to the guys having to
go to.
Speaker 2 (01:35:08):
Meetings, yeah what is coaching? Like you're enjoying?
Speaker 6 (01:35:11):
IT i. Am, yeah that's really good. Kickers i'm working.

Speaker 2 (01:35:35):

Speaker 3 (01:35:36):

Speaker 6 (01:35:38):

Speaker 2 (01:37:16):
FOR i, think at this point the most optimistic, prognostications,
rejection whatever you want to call it for The bengals this,
year you could Read Cincinnati. Magazine go To Cincinnati magazine
dot com and Read Robert wintrump's. Column he does one
every week on The. Bengals he's got him going thirteen and.
Four SO i spoiled that. Part go read the rest
(01:37:37):
At cincinnati dot. Com congratulations on being a ray of
light amid all the rest of us who are predicting
that they'll only win like ten.
Speaker 20 (01:37:44):
Games somebody has to be around here For god's.
Speaker 22 (01:37:48):
Sakes, yeah and it stands in stark contrast to last
year when that was the lone voice of tessimism SO
i like to think that it'll you, know work to
our advantage this. Year AND i, think you, know The
bengals in high expectations don't go together particularly, well not
exactly chocolate peanut.
Speaker 20 (01:38:04):
Butter AND i don't think they have.
Speaker 22 (01:38:06):
The high expectations this, year as you, say most team
most predictions have them sort of in the mix for
that last one or two playoff.
Speaker 20 (01:38:14):
Berths BUT i think we agree With.
Speaker 22 (01:38:16):
Joe burrow and his, weapons and you, know the way
that they have such explosiveness on, offense.
Speaker 20 (01:38:22):
Their ceiling is certainly higher than.
Speaker 22 (01:38:24):
That defense tends to be a lot less you, know,
predictable and it's a lot more variable from year to
year than. OFFENSE i just think they can get enough
done and win some of those. Games so many of
the games last, year in excruciating fashion went against. Them
certainly some of those have to come back and fall
on our side this. Year so that's that's WHY i
(01:38:45):
think they could threaten the franchise record for, wins which
is only, twelve.
Speaker 20 (01:38:50):
You, know and with the extra, game why not let's
go for. THIRTEEN i like.
Speaker 6 (01:38:54):
IT i like.
Speaker 2 (01:38:55):
It you reference something that we've kind of made fun of,
here which is The Dalton riisner, hype, right the single most,
exciting like just before the season post cutdown day signing
in the history of THE. Nfl why is there A
Dulton riisener? Hype he has a cool.
Speaker 22 (01:39:14):
Name maybe it kind of gives off That Patrick swayze roadhouse.
Vibe make sure certainly wasn't expecting the fireworks display over
The Rogeling bridge there for signing a you, know a
league average at best replacement level.
Speaker 3 (01:39:29):
Guard but you know they had to.
Speaker 22 (01:39:31):
Go they were going into the season with two mid
round rookies and an oft injured mediocrity at the. Position
so now they have a second off injured, mediocrity which
you know balances things, out and just from a pure depth,
perspective they had to get somebody else in. There it
was just not tenable to go into the season with
three guards of that little.
Speaker 20 (01:39:52):
Pedigree so you, know.
Speaker 22 (01:39:53):
Anything he gives beyond getting you, know pancakes every play
would be.
Speaker 20 (01:39:58):
Good and you know he's he's had his.
Speaker 22 (01:40:01):
Moments he's better pass protector than he is a run.
Blocker you, KNOW i think most of The bengals lineman
are that's what they. Want makes a lot of sense
that they would want, that and he fits into their,
mold and if he can stay, healthy he could provide
at he's halfway decent play when he gets his.
Speaker 20 (01:40:15):
Chance so you can, understand you, know thinking it's a good.
Speaker 22 (01:40:18):
Signing the hype might have been a little out of,
control but that's what. Happens In, august before the games, started.
Speaker 2 (01:40:24):
Very well, said is is there like we've talked about
this for weeks on and they've done nothing at, safety literally,
nothing WHICH i would have wagered against being the case
when the season ended last. Year from your perspective as
a rational, person is there an explanation that you buy
as to why they did nothing at?
Speaker 22 (01:40:45):
Safety, WELL i just did just predict him to go
thirteen and. Four SO i don't know how RATIONAL i am,
necessarily but you, KNOW i think It's opham's razor.
Speaker 20 (01:40:56):
Right the simplest.
Speaker 22 (01:40:57):
Explanation is usually the right, one and they just don't
think anybody who's out there available to.
Speaker 20 (01:41:02):
Be signed is is.
Speaker 22 (01:41:04):
WORTHWHILE i don't know IF i agree with that, necessarily
but you KNOW i can SAY i live here In.
ATLANTA i saw The falcons bring In Justin, simmons a
guy who's been out there a lot of the Potential bengal.
Speaker 20 (01:41:15):
Signing they put him.
Speaker 22 (01:41:16):
Next To Jesse bates last year and he was a
disaster and they don't want.
Speaker 20 (01:41:19):
Him and there's a lot of that going.
Speaker 22 (01:41:21):
Around nobody seems to be satisfied with their, safeties AND
i Guess Al goldon is, Thinking i've, had you, Know
Geno stone And jordan battle together all off.
Speaker 20 (01:41:30):
Season they know WHAT i.
Speaker 22 (01:41:32):
Want they know what they're, doing at least to the
point that you, know better than some newcomer coming in
at the last. Second and he'll roll with. That and
obviously if injuries start, coming and you know they almost certainly,
will they will need a so A Dalton riseing or
type to come in at, safety just to you, know
have somebody to man the, position you would. Think but, otherwise,
(01:41:54):
yeah it doesn't make a ton of sense from the,
outside BUT i guess you have to put your faith
In Al golden on this.
Speaker 2 (01:41:59):
One are analytics as unkind to The bengal safeties as
my eyes and memory.
Speaker 22 (01:42:06):
Are, WELL i guess it depends on do you consider
missed tackles.
Speaker 20 (01:42:12):
ANALYTICS i, mean we're just counting. Them, Certainly Geno.
Speaker 22 (01:42:16):
Stone piled them up again fifteen and that might have been.
Generous so in that, sense, yeah you, know they played
a lot of too. High they were very low in
terms of having their safeties matched up on receivers when
it came to the passing.
Speaker 20 (01:42:30):
Game they hardly ever did, that.
Speaker 22 (01:42:32):
And when it did, happen it was Usually Von bell
who had the majority of time when a safety was
directly covering the, receiver and he was saying he was
targeted a lot and didn't do well when he, was
so a lot of the uptick that you saw in
The bengals defense toward the end of the season last
year came When Jordan battle Replaced bell and just playing you,
know semi competently in the passing game when he was
(01:42:54):
matched up against receivers helped the overall defense quite a.
Speaker 19 (01:42:58):
Bit you.
Speaker 22 (01:42:58):
Know the tackling issue who is one that's always going
to be there and it has to be proven to
be fixed before.
Speaker 20 (01:43:04):
We can predict.
Speaker 22 (01:43:05):
It but, OTHERWISE i, think just on a sort of
play to play down to down, basis The bengals secondary
as a whole wasn't as bad as it was as
you might. REMEMBER i, mean they were middle of the
pack when it came to average yards per tenth last
year against.
Speaker 20 (01:43:20):
Them it was just in the big situations and the
big plays killed.
Speaker 22 (01:43:23):
Him and when it came to like a guy making
a reception of the ten yard, line breaking the tackle
and getting into the end, zone that's what really killed.
Him if you can just make the tackle reset and
force the field goal instead of a, touchdown it changes
the whole, game.
Speaker 20 (01:43:34):
Right so that's the kind of thing they need to improve.
On it's not necessarily even.
Speaker 22 (01:43:39):
An analytics, thing just a football fundamental.
Speaker 20 (01:43:42):
Thing get the guy to the ground when you have the.
Speaker 22 (01:43:43):
Opportunity and if they can do, that they can certainly
be a better defense than they were last.
Speaker 2 (01:43:47):
Year so you mentioned big, situations and you, know the
mantra for eight months has been they just need to
be a league average, defense AND i understand, THAT i
agree with. It but that's What i'm most curious about
is fourth quarter game is on the. Line can they
get a stop there they're down for other teams got the.
Ball The bengals defense has to get the ball back
(01:44:08):
To Joe. Burrow can they can they close games a
La Trey hendrickson against The steelers last. Year can they
win a game where maybe it's it's an off day
for the offense and they kind of spin their, tires
LIKE i don't know how much of that Stuff i'll
measure by just looking at the baseline. Stats and so
if they're a league average, defense that's. FINE i want
to know how they are in crunch time because last
(01:44:29):
year they were.
Speaker 20 (01:44:30):
Awful, yeah generally, speaking that's.
Speaker 22 (01:44:32):
True although you mentioned The Trey hendrickson against The, steelers
and really we think of that five game run that
almost got him into the, playoffs you, know as the defense.
Speaker 20 (01:44:43):
Improving but what did they really.
Speaker 22 (01:44:44):
Do they made stops in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 20 (01:44:46):
Against dallas two or three, times you, know in.
Speaker 22 (01:44:49):
The overtime against The, broncos they got them off the
field a couple of times set up to. Win even
against The, browns they made some plays when that game
was still a game in the fourth, quarter a couple
of red zone. Turnovers, so as you, say that's really
the critical.
Speaker 20 (01:45:01):
Element and you, know what they give up in.
Speaker 22 (01:45:04):
A sort of average yard per play basis is not
really the place to.
Speaker 20 (01:45:08):
Look it's third, downs red.
Speaker 22 (01:45:11):
Zone and doing the job in the fourth quarter when
they're protecting the. Lead as you, know certainly you would
imagine they would have their share of given their offensive,
attack and all eyes are going to be on that
they prove that they could do it at least a little,
bit granted against some mediocre.
Speaker 20 (01:45:26):
Quarterbacks but, nevertheless you, know that's what happens in THE.
Speaker 3 (01:45:29):
NFL a.
Speaker 22 (01:45:30):
Lot they prove they could do at the end of last, year.
Speaker 20 (01:45:32):
It's going to have to hold.
Speaker 22 (01:45:33):
Over and it doesn't mean they're going to have to
be the eighty Five bears in the fourth.
Speaker 20 (01:45:37):
Quarter they just have to make the critical.
Speaker 22 (01:45:39):
