Speaker 1 (00:00):
Rocky for the first time since twenty twenty one. You
and I can do a segment this morning on the
Bengals winning their season opener. It wasn't pretty, but they
are one and oh seventeen sixteen winners over the Cleveland Browns.
We'll talk about the offensive issues that presented themselves yesterday,
but let's start with the defense, much maligned, a lot
of questions. For the most part, they held up. What

(00:20):
did you make of Al Golden's debut as Bengals defensive coordinator.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
No, I was pleased, and I think for the simple
reason is I had no humongous expectations for this defense, right,
I mean, just think about the identity of the D.
It's not billed as a unit that's, you know, got
superstars at all three levels and you know in great
cover guys and Max Crosby and Miles Garrett and all
these No, it's a you know, it's a unit that

(00:46):
is hopefully solid okay, and is gonna be good. And
you bring on Al Golden. He's gonna kind of play
ben but don't break and try to force some turnovers.
So when you take in context of what I was
always kind of told the defense was supposed to be.
I was very pleased with the performance. How about you.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
You know what I was looking for. I was looking
for the basics. Do they tackle and the answer on
Sunday was yes, because last year often the answer was no.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, no, one hundred percent and you got you know,
plus two in the turnover margin. They held on key
drives at the end, gave up no big plays. That's
what this defense is. This is not gonna be a
defense that's gonna lead the league in scoring d or
have it plays. It's gonna be played complimentary to what
our offense is supposed to be. Again, more on that tomorrow.

(01:31):
But again I was pleased with it for no other reason.
Then again, this was never build to me to be
some stalwart unit. I was happy with how they played,
especially in the first game.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Bengals have their home opener on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
That game will kick off at one o'clock. Our pregame
coverage from the Holy Grail begins at nine in the
morning with Rocky Boyman, a Moleger
