Sports Station. Let's see what we got today, Austin.

Speaker 6 (00:33):
Sad news about Greg Biffle and his family yesterday in
North Carolina. Condolences to everyone in the Biffo family and
NASCAR community. Good luck to wal Burrow this weekend. I
love watching Walburrow play, except for last weekend when he
got a whipping five points in the quarterfinals of my

(00:56):
fantasy football tournament Time Out Harry Christmas Surprise.

Speaker 5 (01:01):
He scored that many points out one incredibly sad news
around Greg Biffle and his family. By all accounts, the
guy gave back and did so much for uh, for
others in need the fantasy football thing. I'm under the
semis Austin. Last night I chose to bench, well, I
didn't bench. I have Josh Allen and Matthew Stafford, but
I kept Stafford on the bench. He drop thirty.

Speaker 7 (01:23):
He was wisdards of Pultampio Quick, Canty, Chris Nicket, Peter Shreggor.
And we just wanted to bring a little segment of
can he or.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
Can't he to your show today, guys, and can't he?

Speaker 7 (01:35):
We just want to ask you, can Burrow or can't Burrow?
Get his head out of his ass and quit being sad.
You know, I don't think he can. I don't think
he can, and I think you're going quit on his team,
and we hope he doesn't, guys, But good luck with everybody.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
Good luck brow. I'm gonna say, can he he can?

Speaker 7 (01:56):
Hey, fellas, it's Vannie Austin.

Speaker 8 (02:00):
See to play Borrow, he'd.

Speaker 9 (02:01):
Get his confidence back.

Speaker 7 (02:02):
Think about it last couple of years.

Speaker 10 (02:05):
Last year and then all this.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
Year he had to win every game. Man, that can
make the playoffs.

Speaker 9 (02:09):
Now it can just have.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Fun, relax fling the ball around?

Speaker 6 (02:13):
Man, what's up with this?

Speaker 5 (02:15):
You're out of contention.

Speaker 11 (02:16):
You don't play your stars.

Speaker 12 (02:18):
Man.

Speaker 9 (02:18):
If that's the.

Speaker 6 (02:18):
Case, Joey Bonto would have played like half a season
every year.

Speaker 13 (02:22):
What are we doing?

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Many rarely makes a good point, but he made one there.

Speaker 14 (02:30):
My one Cincinnati Sports Christmas wish would be for Jeff
Bezos to buy the Bengals. Not only would he have
deep enough pockets to buy the damn Lombardi if that's
what it took, but they could rename the stadium the
Amazon Jungle.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Ooh about that, the Amazon Jeff Bezos bought the Bengals,
they wouldn't be in Cincinnati much longer after that.

Speaker 15 (02:53):
No, my wishes for Wes Miller to get a lifetime.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
Come the James Franklin of the NCAA men's basketball programs.

Speaker 16 (03:04):
Boy, what's up, guys, Big cahoone in Kentucky. Christmas wish
for Cincinnati Sports, that's easy. Fire Zach Taylor. I mean,
you know everybody wants to talk about Duke Tobin.

Speaker 9 (03:14):
And all this.

Speaker 16 (03:15):
I mean, yeah, look, I mean some of the guys
that he signed, like Geno Stone, I believe he led
the AFC, if not the NFL and interceptions.

Speaker 9 (03:21):
The year before he came here. They they got Kappa.

Speaker 16 (03:23):
And Karras and all them guys on the offensive line.
Them guys were good signings. The guy from Dallas, he
was good signings. It's the coaching. It's all coaching. Get
this guy out of town. He's the common denominator.

Speaker 5 (03:36):
Agreed. Hey, guys, murder from the grove.

Speaker 12 (03:40):
My Cincinnati Christmas wish, and all I see is pretty simple.
I just want to parade. I don't care what it
is at this point. Just give me a parade to
go to for the celebrated championship. That's it. Cincinnati wish,
a Cincinnati sports parade.

Speaker 8 (03:59):
Don't care who it is.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
All right, well, maybe the newly found Cincinnati Slingers able
to win an arena championship.

Speaker 17 (04:06):
For you.

Speaker 9 (04:09):
My Christmas wish is to get rid of that flat
bill Duke Tobin. Get him out of here.

Speaker 18 (04:17):
Flat Now they're going to the flat belt. Start bench cut.
I'll give them to you in the order that I
would do it in. Fire Duke Tobins, fire Al Golden,
and fire Zach Taylor.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
All right, well that that's not start cut.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
That would be my start benure cut.

Speaker 5 (04:40):
I will uh sure, I will fire Duke, I'll bench
ol cutsack Happy.

Speaker 19 (04:49):
Friday, guys. Yeah, I don't understand these bold games. I mean,
their pointless. They don't decide anything. Now we got this playoffs.
I don't even know how they make money off of this.
That are the good players are actually playing? Everybody opts out.
Let's just cancel the settings.

Speaker 5 (05:11):
Well you have you not only have teams opting like,
you have whole teams opting out, and then you have
players opting out. And it's I just don't know how
much you can actually get out of the game the
most form. The coaches will tell you that more important
than the game is the practice time you get. I
can see that the extra practices you get leading into
a bowl game, but the game itself.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Is maybe if you get six wins, you get more
practices instead of a bowl game.

Speaker 5 (05:36):
Okay, hello, this.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Is former President Ronald Reagan and will take it easy
on my old buddy Al Michaels. He's an all time great.
In fact, I want to play a couple of his
classic calls to remind everyone. This one's from the seventy
two playoffs.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
We did this last week.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
The wine, the two pitches, the bench, swang on fly
ball right field, Beck goes Clemente at the wall. It's
gone and no one will forget this one from the
eighty Olympics.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
Do you believe in miracles that shoots got right the
audi mwg.

Speaker 9 (06:16):
Man.

Speaker 20 (06:16):
It's been a long couple of weeks, but I have
one holiday wish and.

Speaker 9 (06:22):
That's for Joe Burrow to finish.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
The season healthy.

Speaker 20 (06:27):
Ooh, I like that, I would add, man, can we
just get a stretch where he can play football? That's it,
That's all I want. That's all I want to see
Joe do for the next several years is just play football.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
We got nineteen games in a row at one point.
That was cool.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
Yeah, what a fun time. That's a good afternoon.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Gentleman.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
Is Rob from Michigan.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
My Christmas wish for the Cincinnati Bengals this.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
Year is to tank for Caleb Downs. Have a good day, gentlemen. Okay,
thank you Ron. Okay, Caleb Downs.

Speaker 8 (06:56):
Hey guys, I was just thinking to myself how great
it would be if we got more people in the
city to throw down money for more of those billboards
calling out for firing of some certain Bengals employees. Doubt
it will do anything to change anything, but there's nothing

(07:17):
better than these literal, giant metal fingers pointed at the organization.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
What do we think the billboards accomplished?

Speaker 5 (07:26):
Nothing? Now I think other people think they accomplished something.
I'm telling you they accomplish nothing.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Yeah, they don't, especially when you don't put it anywhere
where any Bengals personnel drive like. I get the sentiment
people are unhappy. They want to state that they're unhappy.
Are there better ways to do that?

Speaker 5 (07:46):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (07:46):
I would wonder, But I mean it gets news headlines,
people write arsels about it, It goes viral on Twitter.
I get it. It feels like a waste of money.

Speaker 17 (07:58):
Hey, the Happy Friday, Tony in Austin, Tony. Hope this
isn't too hard for you. Got a stock bench cut
Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
New Year's Eve?

Speaker 17 (08:13):
Oh gosh, happy weekend, gentlemen.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
This part of my life. I will start Christmas Eve,
i will bench New Year's Eve, and I'll cut the
night before Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Start New Year's Eve, bench Christmas Eve.

Speaker 5 (08:27):
Oh that's how I used.

Speaker 21 (08:30):
To be just another Jeff And my Christmas wish for
the twenty six sports season would be that Matt McClain
would return to something close to what he was before
his injury. I think that would be a huge piece
of the Reds having a decent season.

Speaker 5 (08:52):
Okay, I agree with now that is a legitimate wish.

Speaker 12 (08:54):
Right now, get your ears on, mother lovers, because you're
gonna hear a PayPal commercial seven hundred times today.

Speaker 10 (09:04):
Good after Newfellows are on Wisconsin. My Christmas wish is
since the seven twenty six hours straight with you guys,
mol can move to the evening and then maybe add
a segment where you ask Duke Tobin questions and then

(09:25):
it's followed by twenty seconds of silence. I mean, I'm
a retired weather guy, and even I wonder how he
can get paid being wrong.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
So off, I forgot to bring this up earlier when
Skinny was on with MO on Wednesday. Skinny said that
the Beat writers had put in a formal request to
interview Duke Tobin and it was denied. Yeah, like last week,
and I think they're gonna put another one, like a
written request.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
You have to keep doing it. And I think that's
what Trags was pushing at too.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
And Trags is the guy who's leading that. He's like
the president of the local chapter uh the Pro Football Riders.
So Trags is the one who literally is doing that good.
So I think sometimes we we uh forget that there
is an effort being made to talk to him.

Speaker 5 (10:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Uh, and they just choose not to.

Speaker 9 (10:13):
Austin's boomer drew himself.

Speaker 22 (10:14):
Then that crazy backward pass play, Uh, didn't they get
blown dead? That was why I thought, once the whistle blows,
doesn't doesn't play done and over, you know, And so
they let the guy pick it up after the whistle
blows and then they count it.

Speaker 5 (10:31):
I don't really understand this.

Speaker 22 (10:32):
So anyways, Uh, you know what Santa Claus said to
my three sisters.

Speaker 9 (10:38):
Ho ho ho, I have a good one.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
Guys.

Speaker 5 (10:40):
Yikes, I thought the play was blown dead. That's why
everyone stopped.

Speaker 17 (10:48):
By.

Speaker 13 (10:48):
Guys, it's Duke Tubin again. If we finish off these
last three games strong, I really don't see any reason
not to run it back. I mean, you know, we'll
have a lot of momentum going into next year. You know,
we'll get that deal done with Gino's Stone. It will
be the starting safety. We can draft a guy that

(11:08):
we can develop for the future, because this defense is
gonna have a lot of momentum going in the next year.
It'll be a great defense. No need for change.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
Thank you, love the sentiment, guys.

Speaker 9 (11:23):
Sorry for the double den and I got a touch
on it.

Speaker 16 (11:25):
I mean, Tony with your breakdown of key mashups and
this Bengals don with them, and you're really trying hard
to break down this toilet bowl that's coming.

Speaker 9 (11:33):
Up this weekend Christmas Christmas.

Speaker 16 (11:35):
Wiz Man, I bet your whiz came true that you're
off all next week and the Bolus you ain't got
to break down these junk games that the Bengals are
playing in.

Speaker 9 (11:43):
Now, Man, you are trying hard. I'll give you credit
for that. You're trying to keep the listener engage in
the toilet Bowl.

Speaker 5 (11:48):
Listen. Winning is important, That's what I was told. So
what's the best way to win? Tone in on it.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
It's Chris Kringle.

Speaker 23 (11:58):
I was just checking Christmas myself and thought i'd call in.
Let's see here. I'm checking my list. Austin Moore, nice,
very good, Tony Pie. Nothing here for Tony Pike. You
know I started this a couple months back.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
Let's see here.

Speaker 23 (12:14):
Any questions regarding Tony Pike should be addressed to.

Speaker 5 (12:16):
iHeart corporate media, yep, call them out, send it my way.

Speaker 24 (12:25):
Hey guys, TJ east Side, well up to the thanks
and Merry Christmas too. The talk backwards who provides so
much entertainment, and thanks absolutely providing a great daily form
for safety sports. Audie, thanks for playing a great foil
to all of Tony's common sense and great takes. You're
super about it and makes the show great, even though
you don't agree with you picking up her Sunta Airports
and I really looking forward to having him home. Tony,

(12:46):
have a great time with Meredith and the kids. Hope
it's a special Christmas audio. I hope seeing it brings
you a few new Zach Taylor ornaments for your tree.
Merry Christmas fellas.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Just zero relationship with reality.

Speaker 25 (12:59):
And you guys were talking about things you're interested to
see from this Bengal squad down the stretch in these
last three weeks, and I have my eye on that
third wide receiver spot T. Presumably you out this will
give some guys some more opportunity.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Is this guy we all remember Yoshi had that.

Speaker 25 (13:13):
Stretch where he couldn't catch a cold, and I've been
kind of disappointed in him all year. I feel like
he hasn't really recovered from that point. And I like
Mitch Tinsley a lot. I feel like he's done some
things with the limited targets that he's had and done
at least enough to deserve more targets.

Speaker 9 (13:26):
Interested to hear what you guys think.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
Yeah, I targets, But as Charlie mentioned it, wide receiver three.
I don't think it's on the roster right now, but
yeah it's not. I agree with that.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
And those dudes, you know, four drops on Sunday could
have changed that game. Chase had two of them, Tinsley
had one, Yoshi had one. Tinsley missed, stopped running on
a deep route that could have been a touchdown against
Baltimore the first time. I think that's also part of
the reason why Burrow is upset.

Speaker 9 (13:56):
You know about Zach Taylor.

Speaker 26 (13:57):
I don't care if the player is liking because they're
not winning, maybe they shouldn't like him as a coach.

Speaker 9 (14:03):
He's got a losing record.

Speaker 26 (14:05):
He's missed the playoffs five of his seven seasons, including
the last three three in a row.

Speaker 9 (14:10):
Only here can that happen and you still keep your job.

Speaker 26 (14:12):
And everybody keeps talking about, oh, if you know things
will change next year, then that's gonna be a problem.

Speaker 9 (14:18):
We said that last year about this year. It just
feels like we're.

Speaker 5 (14:21):
In a never ending loop.

Speaker 9 (14:23):
This teams get serious.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
Well, the point I'm trying to make is everyone's trying
to read between the lines and everything that the players say.
I think the players have made it clear that they
don't think Zach is the problem.

Speaker 5 (14:34):
I also don't think that the player will ever come
out and say that he is the problem.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Maybe not, But I also think that those guys have
been pretty honest and straightforward in the past. But you're right,
I mean either way, I think this is their way
of kind of saying it without saying it about the
other people.

Speaker 11 (14:54):
Audie got run over by a reindeer. Oh, walking home
from skyline, Jillie, you could say that Tony could have
saved him. With him and Moe, we're chilling that twin
peas now. They've been having too many cold ones. Autie
begged him not to go, but he forgot his oyster crackers.

(15:18):
Then he staggered in the snow. Yeah, Audie got run
over by a reindeersh.

Speaker 19 (15:27):
Yeah, my Christmas whisper Cincinnati? Is that evenue baseball implements
a salary? Can I think that'll finally give us a
chance to actually even better. I know we had more
money to spend, but its Natty was what some of
these other teams spend, even if they actually didn't come

(15:47):
amost that money. He actually spending at for a change,
but need a salary?

Speaker 5 (15:53):
Can okay? All right? Thank you, hey, Audie, You're not alone.

Speaker 15 (16:00):
A lot of people think if the Bengals sold that
they'd get moved to a new city, But realistically, what
city makes sense. I don't see a lot of cities
that are bigger and more lucrative than Cincinnati that don't
currently have an NFL team.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Well, the size of the market really doesn't matter all
that much based off the structure of the NFL. But
a team like Toronto or a city like Toronto, San Antonio,
Mexico City, if they want to go international, those are
some some teams, some some cities that have been floated
out there. I don't know for sure. Las Vegas could

(16:40):
be one of them, so.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
Or not.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Las Vegas they got.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
The raider at the second one.

Speaker 27 (16:47):
Mike and Independence here, I just want to thank everybody
part of the local shows, sports sports commentary. It's just
an amazing market here. Appreciate all you do. From Chad
Brandall to to Tony Mo and Dan Horr laugh him.

Speaker 23 (17:03):
Everybody just amazing.

Speaker 27 (17:05):
Off topic, what's with the sessme street advertisements asking for money? Well,
all that tickle me Elmo money, we can dove out.
Where's all that at?

Speaker 5 (17:13):
Let's go. Great question. I don't know the answer to it.
I got kids.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Uh, I don't know what you're talking about. A reminder
that I don't have any control over, nor do I
hear or see the commercials that are run on the stream.
So I apologize and we're done.

Speaker 5 (17:33):
All right. I'm guessing with our breaks today, we'll have
one segment coming back.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Uh shh, We're gonna need to have two.

Speaker 14 (17:42):
All right.

Speaker 5 (17:43):
And we got Bob Manjein coming up at the top
of out a three with picks after that as well,
since he three sixty to Friday Football Friends you on
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati sports station.

Speaker 28 (17:54):
This week, the Bengals and Dolphins meet up in Miami
for a South Beach showdown. Speaking of beach, my swimsuit
of choice is a speedo European style. I don't like
those pesky deadlines. The Bengals stooled the Dolphins. Get the

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
