fifteen thirtys with Moeger last night at Twin Peaks and
he got an email while we were on air that
the talkback feature was fixed so we can get talkbacks
in Today. Scott Saderfield is at the podium. He's going
to be speaking about the undefeated in Big twelve place
(01:04):
Cincinnati Bearcats getting ready to host Baylor this weekend. We'll
hear from Scott Saderfield today, you'll hear from Zach Taylor,
who spoke yesterday. And we've got our friend Joe Daneman
from Fox nineteen ready to join us at one o'clock
this afternoon. Plenty on the Bengals, plenty on college football,
plenty on the National Football League, and so much more
(01:25):
coming up for the next three hours.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Austin.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
I was sitting earlier today trying to figure out a
lot of other stories happening across the sports world, from
Major League Baseball last night and the Blue Jays punching
their ticket to the World Series a Monday night football doubleheader.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
NBA is back.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
The Bearcats are up to number twenty one in the
polls Luke Fickel got a vote of confidence. I don't
know how that happened. And tomorrow Big twelve media day
for the UC Bearcats, Big twelve media day for the
women's U SEE Bearcats. We had Big East where Xavier
was picked eighth to finish.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
In the Big East Conference. Among all of those Austin,
I believe Big East Media Day is today. Okay, Square Garden.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
So Xavier preseason ranked eighth in the Big East poll.
Out of all those that are happening in Austin, what's
the biggest story is it the Blue Jays?
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:23):
I think so, and more than anything, the bond forged
by Jeff Hoffman and David Bell and the way that
they have led Toronto to the Fall Classic. There's a
lot of great storylines with that team. I mean, Toronto
signed Vladdie Junior to a huge deal in the off season,
they went and got George Springer Bell obviously David Bell
(02:46):
in the development of that entire organization. So yeah, I mean,
I think it's fun. I think it's a fun World Series.
I think half of America tunes out because it's the
Dodgers and they hate him, and the other half of
America doesn't care about the Blue Jays. So I don't
know if this is a good thing for ratings from
Major League Baseball. I don't know why anybody cares about
the ratings. As a fan, I think it's going to
(03:07):
be entertaining and anytime you get a chance to watch
shoe heyo Tani, I'm all in on that, you know what.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
I think has been one of the hallmarks of the
playoffs up to this point, and it definitely laid true
last night as well. The teams that have made it
to where we're at, they've done so riding on the
backs of their stars. I mean, sho Heyo Tani single
handedly put together I think the most impressive game in
baseball history. Three home runs, ten strikeouts. Just what he
(03:35):
was able to do on Friday Night was unbelievable. But
if it would have been the Mariners Austin, we would
have talked about on Friday night Cayl Raleigh hitting a
huge home run, and then last night Julio Rodriguez and
Cal Rally both hitting home runs. I mean, Cayl Raley
for the season, he had to actually show up the
way he did in the playoffs was unbelievable. But on
(03:58):
the other side of it, Springer comes through with the
seventh inning, three run home run when the Blue Jays
were down to last night to give them the lead,
which eventually was enough to win the game. But among
anything else, how about the postseason that Vlad Junior has had.
He's hitting four forty two this postseason, six home runs.
(04:19):
He's been absolutely incredible in the middle of that lineup
for the Blue Jays. Bob Baschett, who's been out with
a knee injury, is going to return for the World Series.
If you're looking at just a series in itself, and
we saw Dave Roberts on Friday night, he got up
on the pony. He said, let's win four more and
ruin baseball. And I think he's trying to lean in
Austin to what you're talking about. Where people think it's
(04:40):
bad for baseball, it's also it's a treat to watch greatness.
And the Dodgers they're great and I'm watching that in
the lens last night of thinking at the end, Okay,
Blue Jays, Mariners, who stands a chance against the Dodgers.
I would have leaned Toronto because they have the ability
to put ten up on any given night.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah, I mean just the depth of that roster and
their ability to hit home runs especially. I mean, obviously
Seattle has shown that they can hit homers, we Suarez
with the dumper, with Jay Rod, but the consistency of
that Toronto lineup, and they do it in a lot
of different ways. Yeah, they hit home runs, but also
you know, they hit the ball to the opposite field,
(05:20):
they hit the ball into the gaps, and they're just
all together a really clean team. And they were able
to stand a couple of early losses and fight back.
They deserve a ton of credit.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
The Dodgers ninety three and sixty nine in the regular season,
the Blue Jays ninety four and sixty eight. Blue Jays
will host game one Friday night at eight o'clock.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
That'll be awesome. That's going to be fantastic to watch
Monday night, to show David Bell on the screen.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
And for Don Mattingly, Johnny Baseball, you said how many
years of service to Major League Baseball?
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Don Mattingly has been in baseball for forty years. Man
over forty years. He played for fourteen years, he managed
for twelve. He has been a coach for seventeen. He's
been in Major League Baseball since nineteen eighty two. An
all time great player with some all time great organizations.
(06:12):
Never been to the World Series until now. That's cool
as an assistant coach with Toronto and he can thank
David Bell for helping him get there without a doubt.
I mean, it's not a coincidence. Nope, David Bell gets
there and this team a sents.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
YEP Monday night football doubleheader last night. Let's start with
I thought was the less interesting game. Seattle Seahawks beat
the Houston Texans. Later in the show, I want to
have a conversation about actual Super Bowl contenders and how
many there are as we now embark on Week eight
of the National Football League season, do you view the
(06:46):
Seattle Seahawks as a team that can contend? Jackson Smith
and Jigba is phenomenal. He's unbelievable. I just don't know
still if I can get past Sam Darnold. Although he's
been great, I don't know if he makes them a
Super Bowl contender. I think their defense is really good.
They beat up on the Texans last night. That final
score wasn't indicative as to how the game went, but
(07:07):
I thought that was an impressive win by the Seahawks.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
I think in the NFC it's the Rams or the Lions.
Those are the two teams that I think are a
top the NFC, and then I think there's a pretty
sizable gap until the next ring of teams, and maybe
Seattle is in that second grouping. Their defense is certainly
good enough, and their defense is interesting, but I don't
know if top to bottom they have the depth and
(07:30):
the playmakers outside of JSN to maybe get over the hump,
and especially if you're already in the division with the Rams,
and even though the Niners are beat up they're playing
good football as well. I feel like that would be
a tough, tough hill for Seattle to climb.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
I want to talk more about those contenders as we
go today. I think I know that there is a
contender in the Detroit Lions. They beat the Tampa Bay
Bucks last night twenty four to nine. And as much
as we can talk about the Detroit a defense, Austin
we will. Jamiir Gibbs last night was fantastic. One hundred
and thirty six on the ground. He had an eighty
two in the air. He is an unbelievable player that
(08:10):
is just getting better every time he gets on the field.
I'm and Ross Saint Brown let him in receiving again.
I don't think it was the cleanest Lions offensive game
that they could have played, But more impressively than anything
is the way they were able to bottle up Tampa
with their defense. That Detroit defense is getting better week
by week. Tampa another unfortunate loss last night. Mike Evans
(08:30):
a collar bone in injury, injury, and a concussion. It's
an uphill battle. They're dealing with so many injuries. I
still think Tampa is a team to contend, but last night. Man,
I thought was more about the brilliance of not only
what the Lions can do offensively, but that team as
a whole.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
It's been fun to see Detroit kind of come into
their own on defense, because that was the big question,
right Aaron Glenn leaves, a couple of other guys leave.
Can Detroit get back to that level? They played at
that level last night? And oh, by the way, they
didn't have their starting safety, Brian Branch was serving a suspension,
and like for them to clamp Tampa the way that
they did, and how good the Tampa offense has been,
(09:08):
specifically through the air. All night. Baker Mayfield was second
guessing himself. He was patting the ball, he was jumping
around in the pocket, He couldn't get to his first read.
There was no rhythm for Baker Mayfield all night, and
that I think is a good thing for Detroit, especially
when that pass rush starts to get home and they're
starting to get a little bit healthier on that defensive line.
If their defense plays like that, I have a hard
(09:31):
time believing anybody is going to beat the Detroit Lions
and the NFC, Like you know, and it's weird right now.
You think about the NFC and that conference. You know,
the number one team, the Green Bay Packers, Yep, and
we're kind of forgetting about them. And we had that conversation. Yeah,
and I had that conversation the other day. It's like,
(09:52):
I'm not entirely convinced that Green Bay is a good
football team or an elite football team, but here they
are in October number one seed.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Sad news yesterday as well, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running
back Doug Martin passed away in police custody on Monday.
The Oakland Police Department reported that prior to his death,
Martin was involved in a break in out of residence
in Oakland. While responding officers attempted to detain him, a
struggle occurred, and after he was taken into custody, he
(10:24):
became unresponsive and later passed away. His agent and Martin's
parents had been advocating for some help for him. He
had been feeling overwhelmed and disoriented. He left his home
during the night, entered into a neighbor's residence, and obviously
things got out of hand. But a very sad situation
for Doug Martin, who was just thirty six years old
(10:45):
in passing away.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
One of the most fun players that's ever played for
the Buccaneers. I had a record rushing game of like
two hundred and fifty six yards, I want to say,
at one point, and one of the best nicknames of
all time, the muscle Hamster, the muscle Hamster. Love it uh.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
NBA, Yes, the National Basketball Association is back tonight. Rockets
Thunder Banner Night in Oklahoma City, and then the Warriors
and the Lakers will be your late game. Austin, we
were talking about this earlier. Both games tonight on NBC.
You're excited for NBC. It's kind of crazy. I'm more
excited tonight about NBC's presentation of the NBA than I
(11:27):
am the actual game. I know that Lakers Warriors plays
in the first game or in the second game.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
Yeah, and Kevin Durant with the Rockets, which is interesting,
and it's Rockets Thunder, the defending champs in game number one.
But to be able to hear this tonight, oh yep,
this is the NBA right here. This sound John tesh
round Ball rock It's back. You can only play so
(11:56):
much of that. He'll like appear. But NBC and then
I know they teased it during Sunday Night Football yesterday too,
two days ago, Michael Jordan's sit downs. Excuse me, Bengals fan,
Michael Jordan, Yes, sit downs with Mike Turrico, and I
believe it's called inner excellence and to go inside the
mind of Michael Jordan. And also the game of basketball.
(12:17):
I can't wait, man, love it. Can't wait. Love it.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
As I mentioned, you see is up to number twenty
one in the polls. And the athletic director at Wisconsin
yesterday came out and not only gave Luke Fickele a
vote of confidence, but also implored that they need to
raise more money to put into the football program. Can
you imagine what's going on in Wisconsin right now with
how far that program has fallen, And now the answer
(12:43):
is We're okay with Fickle. We need you to give
us more money. We need to put more money into
this program. That is a definition right now of a
dumpster fire. We will know more about u SE basketball tomorrow.
As I mentioned, Xavier picked eighth in the preseason poll
in the Yeast and Austin the state of Ohio has
(13:06):
now welcomed in nil to high school athletes an Ohio
Common Please judge granted a temporary restraining order on Monday
that will allow Ohio high school athletes to enter into
deals that profit off their talent. Okay, Ohio currently is
one of only six states, and I didn't know this.
(13:26):
Ohio is one of six states that has rules in
place that don't allow high school athletes to accept payments
for their name. Alabama, Indiana, Misian, Mississippi, and Wyoming are
the others. Now, this came about because Jasmine Brown is
a mother of Jamiir Brown. Yes, they filed a lawsuit
in Franklin County. He plays at Wayne in Hubert Heights
and he is the top wide receiver in the twenty
(13:48):
twenty seven class. He's verbally committed to Ohio State, and
the mother, Jasmine said that he is already missing out
on more than one hundred thousand dollars in potential nil deals.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
Yeah, so the common.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Police judge but a hold on that, and now Ohio
athletes can make money on their name, image, and likeness.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
So good for them. I think it opens up an
entirely different can of worms that we can get into.
But speaking from experience and certainly with you know, the
last couple of weeks in mind, go get your bread man, yep,
go get your.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Good money, Go get money. I just can't imagine how
that can play out in high school though, well, I
mean surely there's not. There may be a select few
high schools that can raise that type of money, but
I would imagine, well, that's gonna.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Be hard to do, is it. Is it about high
schools or is it about local businesses? True? Because you know,
I think of Dayton and Wayne in that area. I
don't know, let's say Vandalia Rental Company, those people they
sell the rent those big machines, right yeah. What if
they say, hey, we want you to post on your
(14:56):
social media you know, here's our special come see us,
and you film a video at our lot telling people
to come to Vandelia Rental Company. Pay them how much money? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (15:10):
Right?
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Like, if you think about it, that's what NIL was
supposed to do, especially at the college level. Hey Tony Pike,
come promote Skyline Chili. We'll give you some money while
you play for the Bearcats. It then devolved into schools
buying players. There needs to be a measure in place
in high school. I would think that prevents that from
(15:34):
Moler can buy a player, sant X can buy a player,
Wayne can buy a player, Trotwood can buy a player. Redding,
of course, with the money from Tony Pike can buy
Whip the creamy Whip. You know, there's a difference between hey,
you're a popular player that can advance our brand, or hey,
we'll pay you to move across the state to come
to this schools.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
That's that's what I think is going to be opening
up the can of worms. M Hey, you know you
live where, well, why don't you come into Ohio? We
can pay you. Why don't you transfer here? That's where
I think it gets a little bit dicey. Let's take
our first break, and.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
There will be families by the way. Absolutely we'll have
no problem picking up and moving. If it means that
they're going to get one hundred thousand dollars payout in
some way, shape or correct, it's not correct.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
They won't think twice. Let's take a break, gets your bread.
That's a lot in segment number one, we just covered
a lot of different areas. Let's get back on track.
Let's start with the Bengals and a question that I
have from watching Thursday Nights came when we return since
he three sixty thanks to Skyline Chili On ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Is Football in the NATI, brought to you by Postman
Law on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home of the
Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
Yeah, that sounds good. Football in the NATI.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Since He three sixty esp in fifteen thirty, Cincinnati's Sports
Station ask a question about what we saw Thursday night. Okay,
Dylan Fairchild, although viewed as healthy all week, did not start.
Jalen Rivers and Dalton Reisner started. Now, we had a
conversation earlier, and more of the Riisner conversation is because
(17:19):
it was a Thursday night game, and if so, you
move on past it. But there were different players on
the offensive line that you're already kind of shuffling around.
We've seen the usage of samajp Ryan. We've also seen
throughout the season Jermaine Burden is a healthy scratch more
often than not. McKinley Jackson has been a healthy scratch
more often than not. We've talked at times this year
about Logan Wilson and his snap count at times being
(17:43):
taken away. Cam Taylor Britt was a healthy scratch and
in doing so, Austin I viewed it as a positive
because I viewed that as this staff and this organization
is acting with urgency. They're not sitting around and just
waiting for these players to figure it out. They're making
moves to try to win football games. And I think
(18:05):
urgency should be applauded because that's how I want an organization.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
That I root for to operate.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Yeah, that's what we asked for to not well, let's
give him another week and see if he can figure
it out. If they're not getting the job done, get
him out now. This could go in a different direction.
If you win games because of that, it's great. If
you lose games, then you start to wonder, well, man,
not only are we losing, but we're not playing Kam
(18:32):
Taylor Britt, We're not playing Jermaine Burton. Are we going
to play fairchild? What's that look like? And then you
start to have the conversation of roster management and where
this is going. I view it on the side of
a player that Mo brought up a couple times yesterday
on the Tony and Mo Football Show in Genostone. I
don't know that I've seen or safety play more consistently
(18:55):
than I've seen with Genostone. So what I don't want
this to turn into is a situation that we talked
about with the Reds all year Austin. How many times
we talked about with the Reds man players aren't getting
it done. They're making moves, they're moving guys around the lineup,
they're sending guys down, they're bringing guys up, They're trying
a lot, except when it came to Matt McClain. For
(19:17):
whatever reason, Matt McClain stayed in the lineup.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
Matt McClain in the two hole or Santiago Espinal in
the two hole for a long period of time.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
And my question with this would be, at what point
do you have to look and say, well, Genostone's not
getting it done. Now, the depth there is a question,
And we've talked about the depth all off season. They
asked Ginostone to take a pay cut in the offseason. Sure,
he's playing terribly. You're going into a game against a
(19:45):
team that has not produced anything on offense much of
the year. Would this be a game to get someone
anyone else reps at safety?
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Maybe? I mean, when you look the Jets passing off,
it's not very good. Justin Field's benched to Rod Taylor
came in. Aaron Glenn said on Monday, I don't know
who the quarterback is going to be yet, but your
options outside of Geno Stone are Tyson Anderson, PJ Jewles,
That's pretty much it. Dejon Anthony's still on the injured
(20:16):
list on the IR so I don't know that you
really feel comfortable with those guys. But the question could
be asked, what's the difference between going to a PJ.
Jewles and go into Jalen Rivers?
Speaker 6 (20:30):
Right?
Speaker 3 (20:31):
How is there a difference between the two, And maybe
it's you know, the PJ Jewels gives you too much
on special teams or whatever it might be. But I
agree with you like Geno Stone is constantly out of position,
He's a poor tackler, he was bad last year. He
doesn't play well. He's not a very good player. So
(20:51):
at what point, and maybe it's this week, as you mentioned,
do you say, Okay, let's see if anybody else can
give us something back?
Speaker 2 (20:57):
There you need to evaluate in a game setting, and
I don't know that you'll see many offenses this year
that are as ill equipped in the passing game as
the Jets, So do it now, because if not, then
you run the conversation of what we talked about with
the Reds. If you're in the locker room Austin and
you're watching other players get benched, or you're one of
the players that has been benched and you're like, well,
why isn't genostone getting benched? Then you start whispering in
(21:19):
the locker room. That causes issues with the culture that
to me becomes an issue. Everyone needs to be held
at the same level of accountability. Yeah, Now to piggyback
on this, the NFL trade deadline is approaching in November,
and I viewed Thursday night's game as kind of a
(21:42):
you can label it and must when you can label
whatever you want. But if they lose the game to
the Pittsburgh Steelers, I think the conversation going forward would
have been, Okay, are there pieces in place on this
roster that you can move on from and you can
get something in return and start looking to next year.
I think that would have been the common conversation had
you lost the game to the Steelers. But now, based
(22:03):
on what we're seeing in the AFC and not a
lot of teams running away with it, not a lot
of great football being played in the AFC, and the
fact that the Bengals beat the Steelers and now have
the Jets and the Bears, and the Bears are playing better,
but they will probably be favored at home against the
Bears before.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
The bye week.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Are you are you turning the page into maybe you
look to make additions to this roster or do you
just stand pat.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
You should always be looking to make additions to the roster,
because I don't think you can, on one hand say
we're gonna play the young guys and bench these guys
and do that and that's gonna be our approach to
trying to make the team better, but on the other hand, say,
but we're not gonna go look for somebody at the
trade deadline. If this season is about and has become about,
by as much time as you can until Joe Burrow, well,
(22:53):
then that means by by as much time as you
can in the form of players so that you have
a chance when Burrow gets back. I mean, obviously Kansas
City looks a lot better. Buffalo is still in the conversation,
and the sportsbooks all believe that Baltimore is not that
far off based off their schedule and Lamar Jackson coming back.
(23:13):
But I mean there are reports out there. Ian Rapaport
rap she talked about it on Thursday, double down on
it again that he thinks Burrow can be back for
the last three games. Let's say that's Miami, Arizona Cleveland
starting December twenty first. If that's the case, you should
be doing everything in your power to make this team
(23:36):
viable in the meantime. Maybe that means trade for a
pass rusher. Maybe that means trade for a safety. Maybe
that means go after a tight end to the absence
of Mike GASICKI. I don't know, but we know that
this team has a bad defensive line, a bad offensive line,
and our poor tacklers. How can you, at the bare
minimum improve those things between now and the time Burrow
(23:59):
might get back so that you can make a run
at this thing.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Let's say that Burrow could get back for the Dolphins, Cardinals,
and Browns three opportunities to get wins. You currently, as
the Bengals sit at three wins, so give them six
if they win the last three is the number nine
is the number ten in the AFC. That would get
you into the dance because now you start to count.
(24:25):
You know, at Buffalo without Burrow is going to be
a tough ask. Is the Baltimore game a little different
now based on how we've seen the Ravens, And I
think how the Ravens playing in the next couple weeks
will determine sure what those games look like. Lamar didn't
practice yesterday. Man, you could make a case right now
that Drake may is the best quarterback in the NFL. Yeah,
he's playing like that. The way he's playing. That's a
(24:46):
tough game against the Patriots. You've got to go on
the road against the Steelers. I mean it's not crazy
to say, Austin that the next four if you find
a way to win, could get you in position to
be viable if Burrow can come back. Yeah, you're going
to be favored against the Jets, You'll be favored against
the b You'll be a little dog on the road
to Pittsburgh and you get New England at home.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
I will say this, I don't know that they're gonna
be favored against the Bears. Okay, I hear what you're saying,
but I don't know if I'm convinced on that yet.
But you're right overall the grand scheme of things, You're correct,
It's just to me, it goes back to the division.
They're two to zero in the division. You have Cleveland,
it's gonna be Week eighteen, probably gonna be Shadoor Sanders
(25:26):
or who knows what other quarterback. By that point, you
expect to win that game. So that's three wins in
the division alone. Can you split with Baltimore? Yeah? And
if that's the case, you have a chance to win
the division no matter what happens in the other Steelers game.
And so as far as I'm concerned, that continues to
(25:46):
be the number one goal, which is beat your division opponents.
You know, it's one thing if you lose in the NFC,
if you lose that game to the Bears, or if
you lose that game to the Cardinals, whatever, but can
you take care of business in the AFC against teams
that you're supposed to beat? And I did a whole
segment yesterday about there is none of that for the Bengals.
I don't think that I go into any game expecting
(26:07):
them to win. I don't expect them to beat the
Jets because they have three major flaws that can get
you beat on any given Sunday. Can you improve that
between now and then? If I can see that, surely
Zach Taylor and Duke Tobin can see that. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
I mean they're gonna have to answer questions and Aaron
Glenn is going to I'm sure say, Jamar Chase isn't
gonna get targeted twenty three times. You know what kind
of answers can you come up with? I'm looking forward
to seeing that on Sunday. I'm also looking forward to
continuing this conversation a little bit as it relates to
the holes that you just mentioned on this team. Let's
discuss some of those and if and how they could
(26:42):
be addressed when we come back.
Speaker 7 (26:43):
Well.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Also, some key takeaways from what Zach Taylor had to
say yesterday. Some Barreck Carter Breck Carter audio all leading
up to Joe Daneman at one o'clock. It's since he

Speaker 8 (27:08):
Loegar.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
We've talked about this a lot.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
He's got what you want, like, who's the go to guy?
Gonna be interviews, his views and your palls.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
Go to guy isn't the team's leading.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
School Loegar to day at three on ESPN fifteen thirty.

From Enthrinement into the Bengals Ring of Honor, we pay

By Skyline Feeling good against Skyline Time.
Speaker 8 (27:32):
Now Here's Dan and d Lap.
Speaker 11 (27:34):
You famously convinced your fellow offensive lineman to go sleeveless
in the Freezer Bowl where the wind show was minus
fifty nine degrees? Was it more of a psychological advantage
or a physical one?
Speaker 12 (27:46):
You know, I think it was both in you know,
that's I was thinking that initially was I'm from the east,
you know, I'm from the New England area.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
I've gone through some winners.
Speaker 8 (27:54):
I know what cold weather's like.
Speaker 13 (27:56):
Not like that.
Speaker 12 (27:57):
That was brutality, man, And of course to argers from
the West coast, so they really couldn't go anywhere unless
they flew in early to practice in those kind of conditions, unbelievable.
I mean it was it was survival. I never played
the game of football like that one because when you
hit that field, oh man, it was like you know,
you were falling on a brick, you were falling on concrete.
Speaker 9 (28:19):
For more on the life of Lap, keep it here
on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Welcome back since e three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station, thanks to our friends. It's Skyline Chili.
Anytime you're feeling good and hungry, it's Skyline time.
Speaker 14 (28:43):
All right.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
I want to pick back up real quick on the
conversation we were just having Austin. You made a mention
as well about you know that no game is a
given because of the glaring holes that this team has,
and I agree, which is crazy that I'm even leaning
this way, because we've talked about Geno Stone and I've
never seen a safety in football in a cover two
(29:05):
formation get as wide as Genostone has been getting. I
don't know how that works. We've also spent a lot
of time all off season and into the season talking
about the offensive line, which is crazy that I'm even
leaning this way. But if I were given the opportunity
to address one position group at the deadline, I think
(29:28):
I would go D line like Trey Hendrickson did not
play on Thursday and man, you want to talk about
a golden opportunity for Shamar Stewart Thursday night football, Trey
Hendrickson's out all eyes on. You do you know Shamar
Stewart's stat line on Thursday night?
Speaker 3 (29:48):
I know it wasn't very good. He didn't have one.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Pretty quiet didn't have a stat in twenty two snaps.
This pass rush is abysmal. Forty one year old Aaron
Rogers stood in the pocket as long as he wanted.
Aaron Rodgers scrambled more than I've seen Aaron Rodgers scramble
in years to move around and buy time. They have
(30:10):
no pass rush, which doesn't matter who's playing safety if
you can't get and disrupt the quarterback. So as crazy
as it sounds, Austin knowing the holes at the O line,
knowing the glaring needed safety, if I could only address
one position, I think I addressed D line.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
Yeah, I wouldn't. There's no way I could disagree with that.
Like last night or Thursday night, at this point the
time that Rogers had, he comfortably picked them apart. The
Bengals offense was just better. And Mike Tomlin had one
stupid punt that basically gave the Bengals a chance.
Speaker 13 (30:50):
And you know.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
You cannot do that against Patrick Mahomes. You can't do
that against Josh Allen. No, can't do that against Lamar
Jackson and Rogers. For many years you would say the
same thing. But I don't know that he has the
best team around him, and their defense is atrocious. But
against teams with good defenses, you can't allow that to happen. Correct,
And so I agree with you something or someone to
(31:15):
put more pressure on the quarterback because that in and
of itself will help your secondary a little bit. And
so you can in that sense kill two birds with
one stone. Which is crazy though because of how k
how about that?
Speaker 2 (31:31):
It's just crazy to think that where the deficiencies are,
that we could still think offensive line. That to me
is crazy, but I think it speaks to how glaring
of an issue that is. Yeah, now that being said,
do you think they do something like that?
Speaker 15 (31:51):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (31:51):
No, I'm not convinced. Like, yeah, they've made trades the
last couple of years, and I've been the one touting
more than anyone else that the Bengals have changed. But
when it comes to this type of aggressive move, we
really haven't seen that. I've said it multiple times. That's
the next step in the evolution for this team is
being aggressive in the pursuit of a championship while in season.
(32:15):
I don't see them doing that, and I would love
to be proven wrong, but I don't have a high
expectation for that.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
So the deadline is November fourth. Between now and then,
they have games against the Jets and Bears, and then
they're on their by coming out against the Steelers. So
if you look at a bye week astin, you could
have a better bye week than the trade deadline because
you could add somebody and then have them up the
speed to start right out of the deadline, right out
of the break. Would it require at minimum two and
(32:45):
zero over the next two to be a legitimate buyer? Yeah,
I mean anything under five hundred the deadline, I think
you're out. But it feels to me like if you
win these next two and we're talking about the uneasy
landscape that is right now, what the AFC, yes, go buy.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
What should happen is you win on Sunday and buy. Yeah,
you don't have to wait, so you be the team
that's first in go get the best guy you can
get and have him for an extra game against the Bears,
and then he gets the bye week, and you know,
you figure it out from that. I mean, if we're
talking about a pass rusher. Yeah, it's not like they
need to come in and they need twelve days to
(33:26):
get the playbook down. Right, Hey, go out there on
third downs, right, get after the quarterback. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
I just again, I I'd rather them do it sooner
rather than later. And if you get a win and
you get back to five hundred, and there are rumblings
that Joe Burrow is on track to make it back
for the last three games. If they're in position, then
by all means, go for it. I also Austin, speaking
of Joe Burrow, I don't think it's a coincidence that
(33:58):
him being on the sideline made this offense look different.
And I don't want to overreact because I I think
Joe Flacco had a ton to do with it. But
Burrow being on the sideline and being a voice for
Flacco when he comes off or handling other things, I
think is understated how important that was.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Yeah, why do we what's up with the formation of
the quarterbacks on the sideline. Can you speak to this?
I mean, everybody has their spot starter sits at the end.
I said, back up in the middle, guy at the end?
Can can?
Speaker 16 (34:33):
We said?
Speaker 3 (34:33):
Can switch?
Speaker 17 (34:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Can Browning just move? I don't need Burrow talking over
Browning to get the Flacco. Yeah, because I so. Albert
Breer mentioned, no disrespect, but can we.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
So?
Speaker 2 (34:49):
Albert Breer wrote this up about Burrow's involvement. He said, quote,
uh mentioned in our Thursday column that Flacco and center
Ted Carriss were having lunch film session together. Ted's great,
but there was someone else in there too. When Ted
and I met, Joe went up there and sat with
us and just chimed in. Here's how I would do that,
Here's what I would tell you guys. And it was
one of those things where I would say, Okay, I'm
(35:10):
not going to worry about that, or okay, this is helpful.
You can tell how much Burrow was invested. Yeah, I
think that's huge. Like so, if there's one thing I
can speak speak of Austin, it's the backup quarterback role.
It's not a role where as soon as Flacco gets
off the field, you're braiding him with things. Sure, it
(35:31):
is do you want me to watch anything you know?
Speaker 3 (35:35):
For Flaker?
Speaker 2 (35:35):
You might say, hey, can you keep an eye on
third downs for me what they're doing at the back end,
or you know, it's not Joe Burrow's place as a
backup when Flacco gets off the field to just dice
up everything that just happened. It is more so I'm
here if you want to ask me a question about stuff,
a formation, a play where you look on this, what
(35:59):
you're watching out four on this. But it is also
like I saw there was a point in the game
where Burrow was over there talking to Andre Yoshibash. That's
important too, sure for Burrow not Floco to go over
there and say, hey, here's what's going on. Make sure
you're ready for this, and then Joe can go and
talk to Flacco again.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
Yeah. And a perfect example is that thirty seven yard
completion that Yoshibash had and Flacco said after the game,
we knew at some point they were going to bracket
Tea and Jamar and when they did, we had to
be able to hit it. And it could be as
simple as Joe goes up to Yoshi and says, listen,
they're going to go to this soon or this is
what it's going to look like. Here's how Joe's thinking.
(36:38):
He wants to put that ball Bubba whatever it is,
and bang they hit that big completion to keep him
in the game.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
Yeah, I just I think there is there's no coincidence
that there is value with Joe Burrow being on the
sidelines and being in the meetings.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
His words carry a little bit more weight correct, correct,
His words carry a little bit more weight to everybody,
not just the other quarter of And I also think
he's been around especially you know, obviously not when they
go to Green Bay and stuff like that, but he
has been around and in the facility.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
Ye know that, Yes, but to be you know, as
Flacco said, I'm sitting there watching film with Ted and
Joe wanted to be in there. That's important because he
doesn't have to be doing that, but the stay connected
and to try to offer any input. Like I said,
he's not in there to talk on every play.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
He's in there.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
If if Flacco has a question to say, this is
how I would do it. But this is what I'm
looking at here. I just wish they would move when
they sit on the bench. What are we doing no
offense to Jake Browning. I don't think there's a lot
that Browning can tell Flacco when he comes off the field.
Just let Joe sit there. Yeah, unbelievable. Let's take a
(37:48):
little bit away from what Zach Taylor had to say yesterday.
We'll discuss that when we come back on this the
Home of the Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, Cincinnati.
Speaker 8 (37:59):
To make us.
Speaker 18 (38:01):
Old camp two outs, top of the nine, team seven
of the a l c s.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
Hop inch, payoff pitch.
Speaker 10 (38:09):
He goss, win them Baecks, Big Blues, Eggs.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
Win them Bannets. They're going to the World Series.
Speaker 8 (38:30):
It's so good.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
We must be.
Speaker 19 (38:32):
Dreaming Blue Jays.
Speaker 8 (38:35):
No, then none moment than Ourners, and then they will
take God the.
Speaker 6 (38:40):
L A Doctors.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
How about that? I got goosebumps. What a call, What
a moment that would be to listen to for your
team one time? I got goosebumps, man Like, Goosebump's just
thinking about it. That was pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
Might hear something you think we'll hear some of that
from west Miller tomorrow. Okay, Bump's just thinking about it.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
Goosebumps, just thinking about Seana By by the way, shooting triples,
UC basketball all time Big Ten exhibition game dominance last
year over Ohio State. This year, you guys owned in
exhibition games. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
That call was our wind Shuler Call of the day,
brought to you by wind Schuler's Delicious Cheese Spreads. Austin,
don't ask why taste why any of the four fantastic flavors,
whether it's football get togethers, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, anything
in between. Make Win Schulers a part of your next
get together. Zach Taylor spoke to members of the media yesterday. Now, Austin,
(39:48):
he's also speaking tomorrow, right, so we don't need to
just play fifteen minutes of Zach Taylor speaking today and
then hear from him tomorrow again. We're gonna hear from
Scott Saderfield later in the show. We'll have some West
Miller audio. We're gonna talk did Joe danaum in in
just a few minutes? Were there any big takeaways well
from yesterday's Zach Taylor Prescott. I watched the whole thing,
and Zach kept it short. It was only nine minutes,
(40:10):
which you know, coming off of many buye I get it.
Here were the big takeaways that I had. Number One,
Trey Hendrickson is day to day, still dealing with that
back and hip injury.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Okay. The belief is that the conference is wide open
and there are a lot of good teams, but the
Bengals feel like they're right there in it, and that
affects decision making. The record of the Jets is not
their focus, or the Bengals record is not their focus.
Don't care about being three and four, don't care about
getting four and four. Just care about winning this week.
(40:43):
Win in the day. Okay, this is a much more
normal week for Joe Flacco, and instead of cramming and
worrying about all this stuff, you have stuff to build
off of. Not a surprise there, he said, Playing with
the lead opened up the entire run game. I would
like your explanation for that. What does he mean by
(41:06):
when you're playing with the lead, you have the entire
call sheoot in front of you, and it opens up
the run game.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
Explain that, Well, when you're playing from behind a lot
of times, you become one dimensional. Sure, right, so a
team can pin their ears back a little bit easier
to get after the quarterback teams don't respect the run
as much. When you're playing from ahead, clearly everything is open.
Play action, run the ball, under center runs, shotgun runs.
(41:31):
It just opens everything up for an offense and for
a defense. It makes it tough because you're not forcing
a team to be one dimensional. When you're down, you know,
a score, two scores, you know, you get into that
double digit deficit. You have banned in the running game anyway,
and that just plays right into what a defense wants
to do. So when you're playing even or when you're
(41:53):
playing with the lead, everything's on the table and you
can be a little bit more creative. You can mow
outside zone, inside zone, play action, pass runs, from gun,
throws from under center. You get to mix everything up,
and it just keeps a defense on their heels.
Speaker 3 (42:08):
More final point that I had from the Zach Taylor
press conference was that the Jets are not a winless
team on tape. Oh So, anybody, anybody in the building
who thinks that the Jets are an easy win or
somebody that the Bengals are just going to walk all
over that's concerning to Zach Taylor because that means they
(42:28):
haven't watched the tape. Yes, okay, if you watch the
tape and you think that this team's zero and seven,
you ain't been watching a tape, is what Zach Taylor's taking. Okay,
I'll buy it. I mean I get while you do it,
so I'll buy it. Okay.
Speaker 2 (42:43):
The Jets on the year two point loss to the
Steelers thirty four to thirty two. They got blown out
by the Bills. They only lost to Tampa by two.
Dolphins beat him, Cowboys boat raced him. They had that
tough loss to Denver thirteen to eleven, and then just
lost to the Panthers thirteen to six. Has obviously disappeared
for the New York Jets. There was one other thing
in there you talked about Austin when when talking about
(43:05):
the AFC as a whole, how many as we sit
here today, I don't want to talk about playoff teams?
Speaker 3 (43:12):
How many? How many teams in the AFC do you
view right now as a Super Bowl contender?
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Teams in the AFC? Yep, you think one legitimately can
win a Super Bowl? Two three, So I would guess
you put Buffalo in Kansas City in there. Yes, who's
the third team, the Indianapolis Golts. Okay, they convinced me
this week. Okay, they convinced me that they are.
Speaker 3 (43:39):
I can be bought into that. They have a run game,
and they have a defense, and they protect their quarterback
and they have invested on that defensive line. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
I don't know what to make about the Chargers. I'm
not there with the Broncos. I don't think Jacksonville has
stay in power. No one in the AFC North right
now gives me super Bowl contender vibes. And I think
the Patriots are trending that way, but I don't think
they're there yet. Can the Bengals win the Super Bowl
right now?
Speaker 7 (44:07):
No?
Speaker 6 (44:07):
No, no, no?
Speaker 3 (44:10):
Can they Can they win the Super Bowl if they
make a couple moves? Yeah, probably, maybe potentially, Yeah, it
becomes a lot more realistic. Correct, as they're constructed now,
They're not realistic right now. As they're constructed now, they
what if they're only what if they Okay, let's say
that they are seven and seven and Burrow comes back
for the final three games? Are they a super Bowl contender? Yes? Okay,
(44:35):
same question, NFC.
Speaker 7 (44:38):
I have.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
The Rams and the Lions. Okay, Tampa's not in there
for you, No, not right now? Not with the injuries.
Packer's not in there for you. No, Eagle's not in there. No, Okay,
I think there are more. I think there are more
contending teams in the NFC than the AFC. Yes, I
agree with that. It's La and Detroit and then a
sizeable gap. Okay, you get to that next group.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
For me, Okay, it's crazy because green Bay started the
season looked like the clear cut favorites.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
They've just not looked as sharp.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
They Philly just feels like they're not clicking at all,
and yet they're still winning football games.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
My cousin is a big Packer fan and a big
fan of since he three to sixty shout out. So
I asked him, you know, to ask about the Packers,
and he says, sometimes they have an elite defense. The
rest of the time they're clueless. That's not what you
want to be dispeople, the people in Green Bay, and
I got to speak with these people. They don't love
(45:33):
Matt Lafleur. Yea, everything's a walk in the park. They
played down to their opponents. There's not enough urgency. And
Jordan Love, as you and I have talked about many times,
can't make up his mind whether or not. He's a
great quarterback.
Speaker 15 (45:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (45:48):
They I mean they didn't show well in the second
half against the Bengals. They tied the Cowboys, they lost
to the Browns, and had to come from behind to
beat the Cardinals this weekend. Correct, let's take a break.
Fox nineteen zoned. Joe Daniman stands by to join us
next yeat. This is the home of the Bengals. ESPN

Speaker 8 (46:07):

Speaker 3 (46:17):

Speaker 1 (46:19):

This is ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (46:35):
Back out an hour two Tuesday afternoon, Cincy three to
sixty Thanks to Cincy Shirts. Often, did you make it
to Loveland or Fort Mitchell yet to get the Hall
of Fame shirt? No, I have a right you just
playing on doing that, Yeah, leading up to the week. Sure,
it's still early in.
Speaker 3 (46:50):
The week It's only Tuesday, leading up to the weekend,
leading up to the weekend, already to okay, the weekend
leading up to the weekend.
Speaker 2 (46:56):
Gotcha, I know our next guest not to be remissed,
I know our next guest has already probably visited and
gotten a couple not just for himself, but probably for
the rest of the crew at Fox nineteen and his
family as well. Our good friend from Fox nineteen, Joe
Danaman Hijel Tony p in.
Speaker 21 (47:12):
Austin, Okay.
Speaker 18 (47:13):
So it is Thursday night football and for the first time,
my two oldest sons are going to a Bengals game.
Speaker 8 (47:23):
How cool is that?
Speaker 18 (47:24):
So it's about an hour before the game, and I
leave the press box to go down and visit them
and see how they're doing, take a picture. And as
I'm walking back from the concourse to the press box,
I hear, hey, Danoman, Now three consecutive games where I've
(47:47):
been needed at a Bengals game, one on a Sunday,
one in Green Bay, one on a Thursday night.
Speaker 21 (47:55):
We've got to keep it going.
Speaker 18 (47:57):
This weekend, I'll be on the field Bengals Jets on Sunday, Cincinnati.
Speaker 6 (48:02):
You know, the assignment I love it.
Speaker 3 (48:03):
I love it, I love it. I was thinking about
buying a ticket now I might do it, just to
do that, just to eat. Yeah, their first time getting
down to a game.
Speaker 6 (48:12):
First time.
Speaker 18 (48:13):
Actually, my oldest went to the Eagles game last year,
which he wanted to delete from.
Speaker 8 (48:18):
His memory, but his middle brother went with him for.
Speaker 18 (48:23):
The first time, literally the first game he's ever gone to.
He's the biggest Bengals fan in our household, so for
them to go to that game and enjoy it. I
told this to Jeremy Row after the game, that they
went to their first game, and Jeremy said, the Bengals
just got two lifelong fans.
Speaker 6 (48:36):
Yeah, after that game.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
It's tough to beat that. Though so cool, that's tough
to beat for the next time.
Speaker 13 (48:44):
It is.
Speaker 6 (48:45):
It is, especially considering you got to see.
Speaker 18 (48:48):
Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco compete at over forty years old,
and now they think their dad can do anything hit forty.
Speaker 3 (48:56):
How much?
Speaker 2 (48:57):
How much does Thursday Night just change the feel the
vibe around the team itself?
Speaker 6 (49:03):
Very much so and expectedly so.
Speaker 18 (49:06):
And we weren't wrong for we being everybody who watches
this team saying that it felt like that was a
crossroads of the season. It felt like that outside of
the building, and I think it kind of felt that
way inside the building as well. It was funny yesterday
and everybody always gets their chance to play on the
(49:26):
touch screen whatever playlist they want, But whether the older
players had cleared out, only a couple of rookies were
still left inside. It was Barrett Carter and Demetrius Knight,
and those guys surprised everyone and put on a country
playlist and Demetrius Knight put.
Speaker 21 (49:42):
On Travis Tritt.
Speaker 6 (49:43):
It's a great day to be alive.
Speaker 7 (49:45):
Wow.
Speaker 18 (49:45):
And it just feels like there's this sunshine shining through
Pey Course Stadium right now. Is the Bengals have gotten
themselves to three and four, and we all know what's
coming up.
Speaker 6 (49:57):
There are winnable games for the Bengals here before the
bye week.
Speaker 18 (50:01):
And I would pause on the Bears being lumped in
with the Jets, and a lot of people seem to
be doing that, even though the Bears have been playing
good football and I think the record would surprise people.
But certainly there's a golden opportunity for this team to
get to four and four.
Speaker 6 (50:17):
Playing against the Jets on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (50:20):
If it's a team that can get to four and
four and maybe even possibly five and four, and we
continue to hear positive reports on the possibility of Joe
Burrow joining this team at the end of the year,
does it push this team the way they're constructed to
maybe be an aggressive team at the deadline coming up?
Speaker 18 (50:39):
Ooh, I would say sure, yeah. I mean, look, if
you're going to invest in a trade to get Joe.
Speaker 6 (50:47):
Flacco here and try to keep this thing.
Speaker 18 (50:50):
Afloat, and he's done that not only in the win
loss column, but also just the way it looks in
the optics of what he's done so far he's been here,
why would you not look at adding to your team
and improving your team in other ways? And certainly the
Bengals have positions and position groups where they could do that. Certainly,
(51:13):
safety is one that jumps to mind. Defensive line jumps
to mind. They need to put more production out of
the defensive line. Offensive line is an area they could address.
So while I look at the Bengals right now is
possibly winning their way back into playoff contention that this
roster in this era is supposed to be about winning
(51:33):
playoff games and competing for super Bowls, and the way
they're constructed right now with this roster, it probably isn't
good enough. And you could argue with me, it isn't
good enough even if Joe is healthy to win a
super Bowl, And it kind of feels like there's no
real super dominant team, even though it feels like Kansas
City might be trending towards it that way the way
(51:55):
they played the last couple of weeks. But it feels
like even if Joe were healthy, they would still need
some more additions for this team to feel real comfortable
about making a Super Bowl run. So sure, what two
weeks until the trade deadline. They have multiple position groups
they could upgrade in a lot of times, it isn't
the huge splash that can.
Speaker 21 (52:15):
Help you get over the hump. I mean, look what
the Reds.
Speaker 18 (52:18):
Did at the trade deadline, and we can laugh and say, well,
though the Reds didn't win the World Series, but they
made the playoffs and they got there with the help
of some of the acquisitions they had at their trade deadline.
So certainly, yeah, I think the Bengals should be looking
to be aggressive to upgrade the roster. They've done it once,
already at quarterback, and that was to keep a season afloat,
(52:40):
And now that the season is afloat, why not look
to improve at positions they need improvement.
Speaker 2 (52:45):
So we discussed them bringing in Joe Flacco, you discussed
the possibility to trade deadline. I look back at what
they chose to do or not to do on Sunday
or on Thursday. They made Cam Taylor britt a healthy scratch,
They started Jalen Rivers and Dalton Reisner. It feels to
me we've seen Logan Wilson at times in his snap counts,
(53:05):
but it seems to me, Joe, that we're seeing a
team that's coaching with urgency, not a team that's waiting
to see, Okay, let's see if this player can figure
it out or not.
Speaker 3 (53:13):
But we need guys on the field. They're gonna help
us right now.
Speaker 2 (53:16):
Do you get a sense of that that the way
they are constructing these rosters on any game day is
literally the urgency way of can this player help us
today or not? Because we don't have time to wait
around and see if they're going to get better.
Speaker 6 (53:31):
That's really a great point, and yeah, I think so.
Speaker 18 (53:34):
I mean, listen, you go back and you listen to
what Zach Taylor has said over the years about coaches
and winning, and I always think of that Miami game
that the Bengal is almost one that would have cost
them Joe Burrow. And you know, to paraphrase what Zach
Taylor said in there is coaching are coaching for their
jobs at all times. Players are competing for their jobs
(53:56):
at all times. And I think the urgency and the
conversations that were being had about Dak Taylor, what about
this coaching staff ahead of Thursday night football.
Speaker 6 (54:08):
There had to be real urgency.
Speaker 18 (54:09):
For this team to find a way to get a win,
to cool the seat, so to speak. And if that's
playing younger players, if that's committing to trying different things,
I think you have to commend them for that, turning
over every rock they can to try to find the
right combination. Now, you would argue also at the same.
Speaker 6 (54:30):
Time, then why is Geno Stone still playing?
Speaker 18 (54:34):
If they're going to do the youth movement at linebacker,
if they're going to do the youth thing at offensive line,
they have younger players at safety, and younger doesn't always
mean better, Younger and different doesn't.
Speaker 21 (54:47):
Always mean it's going to be different.
Speaker 18 (54:49):
But I think certainly we've seen what Geno Stone is
and what he isn't And at this point, I think
a lot of people listening to this would like to
see somebody else get a shot back there.
Speaker 21 (55:01):
Who can take better angles, who who can be.
Speaker 18 (55:04):
A more consistent player and give this team a better
chance of winning, Because if they're going to make that
kind of commitment at corner, at linebacker, at offensive line,
why not make that same kind of commitment at safety.
Speaker 3 (55:18):
Joe, For many reasons, I haven't been sleeping well the
last couple of weeks, and the biggest reason maybe is
that the Bengals can't tackle. Are they going to do
anything or can they do anything this week to really
focus and hone in on that and practice or otherwise
to improve the tackling moving forward.
Speaker 18 (55:38):
By the way, you mentioned not being able to sleep
the last couple of weeks, I'm sure that's an allude
to what would happened with Tony and Tony I want
two minutes here, okay at the end of this segment,
save two minutes, because I'm in the questions asking business,
oh boy, and I've got questions to ask of you,
and you don't have to answer them, right.
Speaker 6 (55:59):
That happens to me all the time. I have questions
all the time, and I don't get answers. But save
me two.
Speaker 18 (56:04):
Minutes at the end of this segment miss the missing
tackles question.
Speaker 6 (56:08):
I don't I don't know, Austin.
Speaker 18 (56:09):
We we asked this question to to coaches, but both
Zach Taylor and defensive coaches all the time, and we
get the same kind of echo chamber answer where there
just isn't a lot of that they can do during
season and it kind of is what it is and
they are who they are.
Speaker 6 (56:29):
How how that can improve?
Speaker 21 (56:31):
I don't know.
Speaker 18 (56:32):
In season when these guys just don't get a lot
of time actually full go live tackling and practice at all.
They can drill it individually, they can keep doing that,
but at some point professionals need to get guys on
the ground, and if that's what they're paid to do,
they need to do it at a higher clip. It's
(56:53):
certainly something that the Bengals coaches are very aware of
that they stress during training, can that they stress even
the season as far as any kind of a drill
they can do. But at some point the fingers got
to be pointed right at the players and say they
just have.
Speaker 21 (57:07):
To be better and they haven't been good enough.
Speaker 2 (57:09):
Did this team unlock something that is repeatable in the
running game on Thursday night?
Speaker 6 (57:15):
Yeah, I hope so.
Speaker 18 (57:16):
I think so, And I think I think it's important
to understand as well that that the Bengals were going
against a lot of really good fronts early in the season.
Speaker 21 (57:26):
That's not an excuse.
Speaker 18 (57:27):
Why Chase Brown and some I JP Ryan weren't finding
the kind of success that we would even consider just
good enough for the run game. But I think once
you got into playing the Steelers and playing with the lead,
what was a big deal for this team to kind
of stretch the run game a little bit? And now
we got to stretch against defenses where I think you
(57:49):
can get the run game going against the Jets, against
the Bears, twice, against Baltimore, once against Buffalo.
Speaker 21 (57:55):
These these are teams that you can't.
Speaker 6 (57:58):
You can run on and need to run on if
you're gonna win those games, especially against those good offenses in.
Speaker 18 (58:04):
Baltimore and Buffalo. I really liked what I saw. Everybody
left the Green Bay game with a great feeling about
Joe Flacco and Jamar Chase and t Higgins. But I
liked the way the run game started to look at
moments in that game. Chase Brown, I think had a
run or two over over ten yards against the Green
Bay Packers when they pitched to him the outside and
(58:27):
they let him use his speed and playmaking in some space,
and then it carried over and Zach Taylor talked about
this on Monday. The idea that they played with a
lead allowed them to lean on it just a little
bit more, and you could feel it from Chase Brown
after the game. You could feel it from Chase Brown
when they signed and traded for Joe Flacco, just a
(58:50):
kind of a burden that lifted off his shoulders a
little bit, And certainly having his first one hundred yard
game of the season, you could tell his spirits were
lifted a little bit. Now there's a little more confidence
in the run game.
Speaker 6 (59:02):
I expect.
Speaker 21 (59:03):
I expect the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 18 (59:05):
The Bengals run game will continue to look good and
continue to grow. They're going to need it in the
second half of the season.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
Am I overreacting to the fact of how important it
was to have Joe Burrow on the sidelines, not just
to help Joe Flacco, but to talk to receivers, to
talk to offensive lineman. There was a story from Albert
Breer about Joe sitting in on a meeting with Joe
with Flacco and Ted Carris.
Speaker 3 (59:27):
How important is it?
Speaker 2 (59:29):
I know he's he's not able to do everything, but
how important is it to have Joe burrow around and
willing to help Joe Flacco through this?
Speaker 7 (59:37):
Well?
Speaker 18 (59:37):
I think if there's anybody qualified really to answer that
question about what a backup course in the NFL can
do to help a starting quarterback at Austin Elmore No toldy,
I mean, you know right, I look at it like this.
It's two points I want to make, Okay, So the
(59:57):
first point is I made the mistake on Thursday night
of sending out a tweet that I thought Dak Taylor
was cooking. I thought Zach Taylor had one of his
best games in recent memory as a.
Speaker 6 (01:00:08):
Play caller, and Austin and I were.
Speaker 21 (01:00:11):
Testing about this.
Speaker 18 (01:00:12):
You were so far out of mind because I thought
you were unemployed and even think to.
Speaker 21 (01:00:16):
Spect you tell me.
Speaker 18 (01:00:19):
And I of those mentions the next day, and every
Bengals fan with a keyboard was telling me didn't you
see Joe Burrow had ahead, like, come on, people, we're
smarter than that. The idea that Joe is in meetings,
that to me is where he can be a difference
maker for Joe Flacco. I have to imagine that an
(01:00:42):
NFL game in between plays, in between series is just
chaos of information coming from so many different places. It's
hard to calm your brain down enough to hear one
voice and have that voice be the kind of difference
made or that we think Joe Burrow could be.
Speaker 6 (01:01:02):
Does it help, certainly? Absolutely.
Speaker 18 (01:01:04):
Not only does it help mechanically with Joe talking to
quarterbacks and talking to wide receivers, I think it helps
emotionally that that one or two percent of whatever it
is of having him on the sidelines adds a little
bit of juice to the Bengalis, There's no doubt about it.
But having Joe inside of a meeting room and helping
(01:01:28):
Joe Flacco understand concepts, understand tendencies, understand what t and
Jamar and andre Yoshibas like, where they like the football,
what they tend to do on certain coverages, That to
me is where Joe Burrow would be a difference maker
for this team. We see him every Monday. He's in
every team meeting. When they break the meeting, he's with
(01:01:49):
the whole group of players coming back into the room.
I'm most certain he's there during the week in practice
and in meetings, helping Joe Flacco when he can, so
that I think that's where the difference comes, and not
necessarily the huge difference that he makes just in between
series during games.
Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
I do think with his absence on the field, we've
seen Jamar Chase grow as a leader, and obviously he's
getting better and better it seems like on the field.
Two part question, how have you seen Jamar grow his
role as a leader on and off the field? And secondly,
is he's the best Bengals wide receiver of all time? Already?
Speaker 8 (01:02:31):
He is?
Speaker 18 (01:02:32):
Yeah, He's the best Bengals wide receiver of all times.
And that's understanding his stats aren't yet there with Aj
Green and Ed Johnson. But if Jamar Chase were to
retire tomorrow and somebody asked me in forty years, who
was the best you ever saw do it in Cincinnati?
Speaker 21 (01:02:47):
Is Jamar Chase. It's just.
Speaker 18 (01:02:50):
It's pretty obvious at this point just watching him perform.
I think he's the story of the Bengals season. I agree,
I truly do, because we can talk about what happened
with Joe Burrow and understand the quarterback position is the
most important position in football, It's the most important position
in sports. And the Bengals going forward and making the
trade for Joe Flacco, this doesn't work unless you have
(01:03:13):
one of the most unique players in football history. And
what Jamar Chase brings to this team not only from
what he does physically with his assignment, and that's playing
wide receiver and getting open, it's also Jamar Chase going
out and running a route and then that play being
(01:03:35):
a run play and Chase Brown breaks free, and Jamar
Chase sees it out of the corner of his eyes
and sprints downfield to make a block to get Chase
Brown an extra ten yards. These are the kinds of
things that a guy with a sea on his chest does,
and I think Jamar Chase felt empowered by being named
a captain, has reminded himself publicly multiple times that he
(01:03:58):
is a captain. When answering questions at the podium, I
challenge people who don't follow the Bengals, and I know
people who listen to the show do, But I challenge
people who don't follow the Bengals to watch his weekly
press conferences and see the ease of which he's able
to answer questions, be a leader, be entertaining, but also
(01:04:20):
at the same time, be the kind of guy that
guys look up to and say that that's the kind
of person we need in this room leading this team.
He e to me, the difference he makes not only
physically but emotionally for this team has become the story
of the Bengals season. And if this team is able
to in the second half get back into playoffs contention,
(01:04:43):
it's going to obviously be what Joe Flacco does, It's
going to be can the defense tackle better? But most
importantly is it Ken Jamar Chase carry this team physically
and emotionally in the second half. Because it feels like
to me right now, he's the number one story in Cincinnati.
That story should be one of the top stories in
the NFL. What he's doing this year should be celebrated,
(01:05:06):
and I think is being celebrated here, but I think
it should be talked about more nationally.
Speaker 2 (01:05:10):
Speak of another Cincinnati sports story, Joe, how much are
you buying into what's happening in Clifton right now.
Speaker 6 (01:05:16):
Exciting.
Speaker 18 (01:05:17):
Man, the relevant and that's what we talked about, I
think the last time, and it's interesting, Tony. The last
time I think you and I talked about the Bearcats
on this show was Week one Nebraska, and the whole
idea was, can you stay relevant in the Cincinnati sports
landscape as things start to pick up, as the Bengals start,
as the Reds are in a playoff chase, and then
(01:05:37):
ce Cincinnati is now in the playoff chase. Yeah, they're relevant,
and I think it's a great thing, not only for
the Bearcats and they're fans, but for Scott Saderfield. I mean, look,
there's a guy who needed this and he got it.
And this looks like the Scott Saderfield plan is working.
Now the schedule gets harder, and that's cool, that's great.
(01:05:57):
That's what Bearcats fans want, that's what you see, want
to be playing relevant games in October and November with
a chance to go do some things that at the
beginning of the year they said they could and a
lot of people said you couldn't. There's no way you
could play in the Big twelve championship. This team doesn't
have that here they are, they're in that conversation. And
when you have the kind of momentum they have and
(01:06:19):
then you have the quarterback play that they've got, you're
in a great position. It's exciting.
Speaker 21 (01:06:25):
The relevant. They they've got a.
Speaker 18 (01:06:27):
Shot here and they've got a shot against the teams
they need to be to earn their way to Dallas.
And I think that's a cool thing too. If they're
going to get there, they're going to earn it here
the next month.
Speaker 21 (01:06:37):
And a half.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
You said you had a question as well at the
end of this what do you got?
Speaker 18 (01:06:41):
Oh boy, Well, I've got questions, okay, And understand you
don't have to answer these questions, but I've had a
lot of conversations with people and they want these questions answered.
Speaker 6 (01:06:55):
Or at least asked.
Speaker 21 (01:06:56):
Surekay.
Speaker 6 (01:06:57):
So when did you find out you.
Speaker 21 (01:06:58):
Were coming back?
Speaker 16 (01:07:00):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
The end of last week?
Speaker 21 (01:07:04):
Right?
Speaker 6 (01:07:04):
Was that a complete surprise to you or did you
have an inkling.
Speaker 3 (01:07:07):
That I was coming back?
Speaker 21 (01:07:10):
Correct?
Speaker 3 (01:07:10):
Surprise?
Speaker 21 (01:07:12):
Okay?
Speaker 18 (01:07:13):
Can you explain how you got from laid off that
then being back on the radio?
Speaker 4 (01:07:20):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
The best way that I can explain it is a
lot of support from either listeners or maybe people that
spend money on this program or at this station. I
would I would imagine that that was kind of what
initially got the ball rolling to revisit these conversations.
Speaker 6 (01:07:39):
Good answer two more, is this permanent?
Speaker 21 (01:07:42):
Are you back for good?
Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:07:44):
Well, I hope nothing in life is permanent, Joe. I
mean if you asked me a couple of weeks ago,
I thought I was permanent as well.
Speaker 18 (01:07:52):
Yeah, last question, will you join me Friday night Live
on Fox nineteen at the UC Holiday Career?
Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
Absolutely? I can't wait. Really buttered him up to get
to that question.
Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
Thought you'd never ask about that. Well, you wanted to
get the tough questions out of the way early so
we can focus on the actual event at hand on Friday.
Speaker 18 (01:08:12):
I can't wait for that, Tony. I'm so excited for you.
I'm so excited for everybody going into the UC.
Speaker 6 (01:08:17):
Hall of Fame.
Speaker 18 (01:08:18):
I'm gonna be there Friday night, six o'clock Live on
Fox nineteen. I'm bringing a little step school, so I
don't look so short next to me, will you?
Speaker 3 (01:08:26):
Will you be covering the homecoming parade the next day?
Speaker 6 (01:08:30):
I have Saturday off, Sir Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (01:08:34):
Man, yes, darn it all right.
Speaker 6 (01:08:36):
See you answered me honestly, I have to answer you.
Speaker 3 (01:08:39):
So since you're off, are you coming to the parade.
Speaker 6 (01:08:43):
Well, let me say this, No, I'm not.
Speaker 21 (01:08:45):
You know why I have to.
Speaker 18 (01:08:47):
I am helping MC the Ring of Honor event Saturday
night at pen so I have laser.
Speaker 6 (01:08:55):
Focused on Dave Lapham and Lamar Parish.
Speaker 3 (01:08:58):
See, I was trying to figure out what event I
wanted to go to Saturday that might put it over
the top for me. I think you're gonna go.
Speaker 2 (01:09:06):
Thank Joe, Daniman, you're the best. I look forward to
seeing you on Friday.
Speaker 18 (01:09:14):
Hey, by the way, tomorrow night, Logan Wilson, Adam McPherson.
Speaker 3 (01:09:20):
Yeat.
Speaker 8 (01:09:22):
Big time.
Speaker 3 (01:09:23):
Let's go. Daniman, you're the best man. Thank you, Thanks Joe,
welcome back, Tony, thank you yea, Yeat. He's the best.
We do have talkbacks up and running today. I appreciate
him asking hard he did he did. Probably let go
now even if here we go, just go leave it there.
Speaker 22 (01:09:44):
What do we know?
Speaker 15 (01:09:45):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
Talkback's working. Talkbacks are working next Cincinnati Sports station.
Speaker 8 (01:09:52):
Now your chance to station?
Speaker 23 (01:09:54):
Is that time for talkbacks? Press the microphone handy coach,
your message us stand it Tom, please keep it clean
and don't be mean. And a sprinkle, sprinkled, drip drip.
Speaker 24 (01:10:08):
It's that time for talkbacks.
Speaker 23 (01:10:10):
It's our favorite part of Sancy three sixty. Austin Buddy
played that talk back on your screen, and please try
not too Saba Taji.
Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
All right, here we go, Here we go. Sorry, all right,
I'm just kidding.
Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
Yeah, I got emotional first talkbacks back and if you
couldn't do it yesterday.
Speaker 3 (01:10:27):
Yeah, that's actually true, So just a little emotional. Yeah,
it's trying to hold it all together here, all right,
here we go.
Speaker 25 (01:10:34):
Hey, guys, it's the it's a zebra here, Elliott, it's
your good friend. He's done a great job in Tony's absence,
and I've been going back to last week. I'm sorry
I missed the show yesterday. But the most frustrating part
about this whole Tony situation is how permanent it is.
You know, nothing's ever gonna change it. No act of
God can ever bring Tony back on this show. I'll
never hear his voice on this show again. It's so
(01:10:55):
frustrating to hear all those millions of children. We'll never
be able to hear him again, but so frustrating.
Speaker 13 (01:11:00):
Love you, Austin.
Speaker 24 (01:11:01):
You're doing a great job.
Speaker 3 (01:11:02):
Man, You do zeb so good. I guess he didn't
hear the show yesterday. I miss the Z man. Miss
he wrote a very nice tweet about you when you
you got canned. Did you see that? I didn't.
Speaker 25 (01:11:16):
Sorry to bring the mood down, but again, I just
can't get over how it's just it's so sad that
Tony's never gonna.
Speaker 24 (01:11:23):
Ever, ever, ever be back on this show.
Speaker 25 (01:11:26):
I mean, there's just nothing all those all those things
that were said on Twitter. You know, everybody who is
so sad right now trying to get over Tony and
not being on this show. She's never gonna come back
on it.
Speaker 3 (01:11:39):
And that's the hardest part for me. But that's all
I have to say. God, bless the Z. He's the
best trip.
Speaker 26 (01:11:49):
Buggety, Tony. I'm glad you're back with Austin Noon to three.
Speaker 4 (01:11:56):
Love it.
Speaker 26 (01:11:57):
What about James Madison?
Speaker 8 (01:11:59):
Blow me ten?
Speaker 26 (01:12:01):
Who's your's highest ranked ever at number two? Glad you're back, Austin.
Speaker 21 (01:12:08):
You're great.
Speaker 26 (01:12:09):
Keep up Cincy three sixty.
Speaker 3 (01:12:12):
Well, thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
The same question I asked you, Austin about the NFL contenders.
Is Indiana a contender?
Speaker 16 (01:12:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:12:20):
Do you think so?
Speaker 2 (01:12:21):
You think I was a sizeable gap between them and
Ohio State?
Speaker 3 (01:12:26):
No, I don't think so. I wasn't sure about Indiana.
Then I just googled Kurt Signet.
Speaker 27 (01:12:32):
They turned the Long john Silvers and Blue Ash into
a pet creamatorium.
Speaker 3 (01:12:37):
They did, and they thought we wouldn't notice.
Speaker 8 (01:12:41):
Tony, I know you used to love that place.
Speaker 13 (01:12:43):
I loved it too.
Speaker 21 (01:12:46):
Back again Tony's back.
Speaker 28 (01:12:51):
Elmer descends, Hi, Tony's fighting, black.
Speaker 27 (01:12:55):
Talking smack eating snacks, my wife snack Tremayne, Mac gets you.
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
Man Me and Mac, and Elmer descends, Oh my god,
he's one hundred percent correct. There used to be a
Long Johnson. Now itce like some pet cremation place. Unbelievable.
Speaker 29 (01:13:12):
In the otter box, it's the voice of the Blue Devils.
Johnny Moon Top five all time duos number five, Buzz
and Woody, number four, Tom and Jerry, number three, Batman
and Robin, and a tie at the top. One tone
in Audi and one a Gary and.
Speaker 21 (01:13:30):
Ace welcome back tone.
Speaker 29 (01:13:32):
Glad to have the dynamic duo back together. Keep working
hard and someday maybe you two can take over the
top from Gary and as bye bye.
Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
Who are Gary and Ace? I'm not even going into it, okay,
And you could look it up if you know. If
you were ever a Saturday Night Live listener, I thought,
or watcher, you can, you can? I thought he would say, Uh,
the guys from Augie's pen point.
Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
Head bud Man and wood bud Man and Woody. But

Speaker 30 (01:14:19):
And I want to say, and I hate saying anything
negative about any of our talk brother fellow talkbackers, but
I always imagine God's sounding like Morgan Freeman and not
like Peelee Herbans.
Speaker 3 (01:14:32):
Oh sorry, God, I love you brother today. Oh pee
Wee Herban God, how about that? Goodness?
Speaker 21 (01:14:40):

people today guys.
Speaker 32 (01:14:58):
It's Jim from the home in imagine my surprise yesterday
when I tuned in and heard the truly perfunctory top
passer timely prognosticator seemed to be uc Hall of Famer
wa a caamer Tony Pike, not to be outdone, recently
titled by the Galactic Federation, Swota said, fast warrior of
the airwaves. Absolutely eloquent, audibly excellent, Austin Elmore.
Speaker 3 (01:15:23):
That's all I got. I was shocked. I got streaky
underwear man, thank.
Speaker 33 (01:15:29):
You turning at her and that failed right add kind
of like Kelly and Jay is on top of your
French rip at their locals, gone on everybody, and crafty
I heard at crafty Amerzon, at crafty Internet, and apparently
I was so excited when I called into you, guys,
I couldn't even talk straight. So that said Bengals, gulp,

rent free in Chad Brindle's head.
Speaker 3 (01:16:14):
You also got to live rent free on campus for
three years. Saw people big Matt about.
Speaker 34 (01:16:19):

clicker talkback. Yesterday I tried to call in, but you
guys were getting a lot of calls. So, Tony, I'm
really glad you're back. I know Gine is thrilled. You're
the only podcast that she listens to, and she was
heartbroken and felt sorry for Audie.
Speaker 7 (01:16:37):

sometimes in life you just sit back and you just
shake your head and go, that just ain't right. That's
how I felt like, you know, during those cuts or whatever.
But you know that day, I wasn't I wasn't mad.
(01:17:54):
I was more sad, like my best friend in high
school just moved to a different town or something. But man,

What kind of chicken feet operation are you running?
Speaker 21 (01:19:43):

Speaker 14 (01:21:12):
Whoa Hey Tony, Hey, Austin, Tony, I'm so glad you're back.
I was thinking about getting a psychiatrist as well for therapy,
if you know what I'm saying. So I'm so glad
you're back. It was not the same without you. The
most show wasn't the same without you being there, and
you'd be at the Holy Grail. It wasn't the same
(01:21:33):
without you there. And Austin, you're doing a great job
as well. I think the Bengals are on the right track.
They just got to put some wins together.
Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
So God, God blessed. Thank you.
Speaker 8 (01:21:45):
Tony.
Speaker 39 (01:21:46):
TJ east Side, what's up, guy, Yes they missed the show.
Had a tiny two little two over on the back, Tony. Wow,
went on the other side, so glad to hear your
voice and see your back on the radio. Had to
google it to me make sure you weren't just filling in.
Excited for both of you to hear the team is
back in. This World Series matchup is awesome, so many
(01:22:06):
good players on both sides. Oddly enough, I met Aston
Barger's and cousins on the Beach and Animal last week.
Speaker 3 (01:22:12):
Gladdie Springer shures, a gonna be awesome. That would have
been nice if they would have fired you and then
you were filling in a week later. Right.
Speaker 2 (01:22:20):
Hey, it's a Tony here for most back in tomorrow,
said Brenda is unavailable.
Speaker 28 (01:22:26):
Good morning fellas Brian from LA. It's good to have
you back, Tony. I just want to say, still listening
to the show, but currently in the hospital right now
staring at our newborn baby girl, Cure Riley.
Speaker 6 (01:22:42):
Oh man, that is so beautiful.
Speaker 28 (01:22:44):
It's the newest Bengals fan that we got here.
Speaker 21 (01:22:46):
Who have a good day?
Speaker 5 (01:22:48):
Whoa, whoa?
Speaker 3 (01:22:49):
You don't you don't you don't have to raise your Bengals.
That is awesome. Angels, Maybe the rams Uh Seattle over
there on the West coast, Maybe the Chargers Raiders. You
don't have to make her a Bengal fan. Man, what
a day, though, that's gotta be.
Speaker 27 (01:23:08):
Who do you guys got in the World Series? Do
you guys have the team the best team that money
can buy in the Los Angeles Dodgers who have bought
their way to another World Series? Or America's team Toronto
Blue Jayson.
Speaker 3 (01:23:22):
I got the team with the best player in the world.
Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
Yeah, I would like Toronto to win, but if I'm betting,
I would say Los Angeles.
Speaker 40 (01:23:30):
Hey, y'all, it's George Michael again. I haven't called you
on forever and stuff, but I was real sad to
hear about Tony losing his job. But on the bright side,
I thought, well, I'll never have to hear him say
Jaguars again. I can imagine my surprise when I tuned
in yesterday. Here was Tony heard Jaguars all over again.
(01:23:51):
Don't seem to bother me as much though as it
used to. Well, anyway, I'm glad you got your job back, Tony.
Speaker 3 (01:23:56):
Love you guys, By George, Mike jack Waters.
Speaker 41 (01:24:01):
Tony Houston, George from v Town, Hey, Tony, Man, I
turned on the radio yesterday or the iHeart radio app
and I'm literally thinking I'll listen to a podcast. I'm like, man, Dad,
listen to him over the weekend. They're still on there.
What's going on right now? What was I listened to?
I mean, you made me so excited yesterday. I was
excited to turn it on today. Get to listen to
it on time. As for the one thing I would want,
(01:24:23):
I would think it has to be safety, defensive tackle.
Speaker 3 (01:24:26):
Get them both.
Speaker 21 (01:24:27):
We need them both.
Speaker 2 (01:24:28):
Let's go boys, Tony listen, obviously you'd like to get both.
The question if you could only get one, if you
only had the chance to get one, which position are
you addressing?
Speaker 21 (01:24:39):
Peppy?
Speaker 42 (01:24:39):
Patty here hey from Montgomery and I met in real
life yesterday, and moments.
Speaker 3 (01:24:45):
Later the news broke that Tony was back.
Speaker 42 (01:24:48):
Coincidence starts a line not perhaps we have magic powers,
but really we're beyond happy for Tony and his family
and for AUDI and us listeners that the band's back together.
Thank you to iHeart for doing the right thing.
Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
Gooday, thank you for your many, many messages, Patty, I
appreciate that.
Speaker 30 (01:25:06):
All right, alright, all.
Speaker 3 (01:25:08):
Right, good thing they did a one eighty.
Speaker 21 (01:25:11):
There is no three to sixty without TP.
Speaker 3 (01:25:14):
Welcome back to GP. See what you did there.
Speaker 21 (01:25:21):
Good afternoon, Tony.
Speaker 3 (01:25:23):
Hi Brian from Mount Washington Here. Brian, first time talkbacker.
Speaker 31 (01:25:27):
A longtime listener, was thrilled to hear your voice back
on the radio today. So I wanted to reach out
and let you know that we're all glad you're back.
As far as the Bengals go, I think the only
thing they lead the NFL in is stadium lease negotiation
and having the lowest non player personnel payroll, and that
(01:25:47):
leads them to their biggest problems.
Speaker 36 (01:25:50):
Okay, hey guys, glad to see you're back together as
a team on the radio. Joy to listen to both
of you. Question for Tony was wondering if you might
help explain at some point maybe you could do a
segment on this or part of one the three defense,
the three man defensive front that the Bearcats use.
Speaker 21 (01:26:09):
I just don't get it.
Speaker 36 (01:26:10):
I think that if they were resorted to something different,
that they wouldn't be run on the way they are.
Let me know your thoughts and ideas about why they
employ that.
Speaker 3 (01:26:19):
Appreciate it sounds like a football On the Natty segment, yep,
do we want to do that next. Probably not have
time for it next, Okay, maybe maybe tomorrow. Yeah, I'd
be happy to get some time. I'd be happy to
explain the three write that down Bearcats is.
Speaker 43 (01:26:34):
Short, like you're completely uncalled for an absurd layoff. But
if you parlayed Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Bearcats Bengals FC Cincinnati
all money line, you'll find plus three fifty two right now,
fand would sprinkle on it because I'm going to at
least a little bit now if you don't, who is
(01:26:55):
the one team that's most likely to screw that up?
Speaker 2 (01:26:59):
Since what it's Columbus you throw it's still the record,
the records out the window. I'm confident how the Bearcats
are playing jet stink even though the record doesn't make film.
Speaker 4 (01:27:14):
Glad Toney and also a little dynamic duo, back your
action back a serious inquiry. I made a significant donation
to a go fund Me page for Tony's financial woes
during his time. How do I get my refugged?
Speaker 3 (01:27:40):
That's a great question, that's a great idea.
Speaker 21 (01:27:44):
Talk backs are working today. What I wanted to say yesterday.
Speaker 3 (01:27:46):
By the way, Ady Tony, it's.
Speaker 39 (01:27:50):
Welcome back, Tony Punch as you did a great job,
but it's just not the same without Tony.
Speaker 21 (01:27:58):
Sixty three sixty is Tony Pike and Austin Elmore. You
guys are a staple in this industry and I'm so
so happy you're back. I hope you be here.
Speaker 2 (01:28:09):
Forever, right, Tony, I hope so thanks Ice Town smackheads.
Speaker 3 (01:28:18):
You must be some kind of big deal Tony.
Speaker 44 (01:28:21):
When I heard you come on in the area yesterday,
I was shocked, and everybody else probably was too, because
I tried to leave a talkback and it wouldn't take it.
Hopefully today it does. I'm glad the teams back together.
Tony and Addie are the best on the radio. You guys, Girth,
I love you is that's an og at talkbacks and.
Speaker 21 (01:28:44):
Austin, Joe and Baltimore.
Speaker 16 (01:28:46):
So glad to hear Tony back, you two together, the
best on the radio. That's part of my workday, makes
my day go by quick. Really enjoy it that inad
go back at and uh, I can't wait on thunder.
Speaker 3 (01:29:02):
Let's go, let's go, let's go, and they're going way
back today. Go back down, man, all right, we're hearing
from all the ogs. Welcome back. Welcome back, Welcome back
(01:29:24):
t Pike. That you see Hall of Famer is back.
Speaker 24 (01:29:29):
Welcome back Tony Hey.
Speaker 3 (01:29:30):
Quick question, how did the Bengals O line get so
good all of a sudden? Crazy? How they can keep
that up? Kill them Jets?
Speaker 2 (01:29:38):
Jets need to see more of a more than a
one game sample size, but a step in the right
direction for the old line on Thursday.
Speaker 3 (01:29:44):
Yeah, Mike an independence here.
Speaker 45 (01:29:47):
I'd like to think that my email to the upper
brass of iHeart helps spur this decision, but I'm pretty
sure it was a collective or most likely some advertising
dollars him into play to get him back on. So
welcome back Tony. I do feel bad for James for
peen uh not the only to host the show with
(01:30:08):
no yesterday. I feel like he was Charlie Brown football
away from him. Poor James, you don't know that.
Speaker 13 (01:30:14):
Feeling newly elected, talk dictated John the first of Walt
Tony's Pike. I did pull some strings to get you
back on the air. What can I say except you're welcome. Secondly, Audie,
I am so sorry that you lost your first gig
hosting radio show.
Speaker 8 (01:30:33):
Oh my god, Tony, it's the lord.
Speaker 28 (01:30:36):
Hey, the standpoint and viewpoint also come back.
Speaker 3 (01:30:41):
To good point.
Speaker 10 (01:30:45):
Hey, I was wondering if we throw temper tantrums, can
we get Tracy Jones back?
Speaker 3 (01:30:51):
Oh boy, oh boy, happy to have you back. T Bone. Well,
thank you, I miss Tracy too. Well, yeah, you wouldn't
get my hopes up on that one. That was our
last one one segment you putball in the natti or
standpoint and viewpoint coming back to We'll get.
Speaker 2 (01:31:14):
The viewpoint of where Scott Sidderfield view Saturday's game and
his standpoint to start our number three. You'll hear his
audio from today on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station with.
Speaker 9 (01:31:25):
Dve Lapham's enthrimement into the Bengals Ring of Honor. We
pay tribute to the life of lap.
Speaker 10 (01:31:31):
Presented by Skyline Feeling good against Skyline Time.
Speaker 8 (01:31:35):
Now here's Dan.
Speaker 11 (01:31:36):
Indeed, Lap you are known for your boisterous enthusiasm in
the booths. But there's no better x as and O's
analyst in the NFL, describe your approach as a broadcaster.
Speaker 12 (01:31:47):
It's probably a lot like yours, Dan. I mean, we
both went to the New House School of Communications at
Syracuse University. The best there is preparing people to enter
the broadcast world knowing everything there is to know about
what you're doing. You're broadcasting, I don't care if it's
tittley winks or you know, the Super Bowl, having an
understanding of who the competitors are, what makes them great
(01:32:08):
and honestly, I mean it's just an energy and enthusiasm
for the game. Just comes from love with the game
and do it in a way that you know the
audience appreciates that.
Speaker 3 (01:32:17):
Oh man, he really likes the game.
Speaker 9 (01:32:19):
For more on the life of Lap keep it here

(01:33:05):
dot Com real quick. We're gonna get to us Scott
Saderfield and his press conference to open up our number
three Austin before that. Do we have an update from
the New York Jets on their quarterback position?
Speaker 3 (01:33:16):
Sure seems like we do. Jets owner Woody Johnson met
with reporters earlier today. He backed head coach Aaron Glenn,
but he said that the quarterback decision is completely up
to Aaron Glenn, and Glenn hasn't announced who the quarterback
is going to be. But Rich, I don't know how
to say his name, Samini. Rich Samini, who covers the
(01:33:40):
Jets for ESPN, and I believe was on this show
once before Friend of the Show. He has said, according
to his sources, Aaron Glenn is moving towards naming Tyrod
Taylor or Tarad if you want to be politically correct,
his starter. I asked MO this yesterday, looking like Tarad
will start for Gang Green. Tyrod Taylor started for Virginia
(01:34:03):
Tech in the Onge Bowl against you opposite of me
in the O eighto nine season. Do you think Tyrod
Taylor will throw over or under his passing yards posted
in the Orange Bowl on Sunday. How many did he
have in the Orange Bowl? I would say he would
throw comfortably over Okay, now, did you hear this quote
from Whatdy Johnson about Justin Fields? Listen to this.
Speaker 2 (01:34:27):
Woody Johnson on Jets head coach Aaron Glenn with Justin
Fields at quarterback, said quote, if you look at any
head coach with a quarterback like that, you're going to
see similar results. Oh if we can't, he said, if
we can just complete a pass, it would look good.
(01:34:50):
That is incredible from the owner talking about your quarterback.
I respect that during the season. Yep, it's nice our job.
I'm the top rope. Holy moly, I don't have to
worry about Scott Sanderfield. He's talking to the media closing
out Oklahoma State, looking ahead to Baylor. Big match up ahead,
(01:35:12):
you'll hear from the head coach of the University of
Cincinnati Bearcats. Next to kick off hour number three. We'll
then get to some phone calls as well. We'll check
in with Moager all ahead on the home of the
Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks to our
friends at CINCI Shirts.
Speaker 1 (01:35:26):
You've been listening to football in the NATI on ESPN
fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals Tony Pike,
Cincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in hardby

a beautiful afternoon, getting set for the uh Moegar Show.
Speaker 3 (01:36:21):
What do you think of the new intros? Great? Just clean,
but we get that turned around. Nothing happens quickly around here.
That happened. That happened quickly. Yeah, I mean maybe some
you know, maybe new imaging for the station. Well, I
mean that's been that was asked for probably six or
seven years.
Speaker 2 (01:36:41):
We moved into this new facility, so h maybe some
video elements that we can add at some point. There's
a lot that uh that maybe we can.
Speaker 3 (01:36:49):
Do here.
Speaker 2 (01:36:51):
For us sorry laugh for uh for now reaction. The
head ball coach of the twenty first ranked that Cincinnati
bear Cats. After a resounding win over Oklahoma State on Saturday,
the Bearcats now travel home. They have begun their preparations
for Baylor. Baylor is a football team that can fill
it up offensively. Got a great defensive team, but they
(01:37:13):
can score and have scored with anybody that they've won
up against this year. We'll discuss more of that, but
first here's the head football coach, Scott Saderfield, speaking to
members of the media earlier today.
Speaker 46 (01:37:24):
Yeah, just you know, first of all, going back to
last week, proud of our guys go on the road
in the Big twelve to get a win. As always hard,
you know, but I thought our guys were very resilient
in that game, went out and played played hard, played
physical all the way through the end. I thought, you know,
there's a point in time there in the second half
where the game really could have went either way. And
you know, proud of our guys and how we finished
the fourth quarter getting a couple of turnovers, including the
(01:37:47):
pick six, you know, and then you know, just finishing
it off. I thought, I thought it was a great
environment as home, coming out there at Oklahoma State, and
you know, but really proud of the way that we
finished out that game. And you know, looking forward to
this week, you know, playing Baylor, a very talented team.
Coach Horanda's done a great job with this team. I
(01:38:08):
think you go back to last year when they won
six in a row to finish the season, and this
year have been in every game, including lost some very
close games as well. Outstanding offense, number one passing offense
in the country, the quarterbacks an outstanding player. They had
some great talent on the outside with some wide receiver play,
(01:38:29):
good running back defense, of aggressive defense that has done
a really nice job on that side of the ball
as well.
Speaker 24 (01:38:36):
And I think their special teams are very very solid.
So I mean a complete team.
Speaker 46 (01:38:40):
It'll take a great effort out of our guys this
week in practice to get ready to go play this team.
Speaker 5 (01:38:46):
I think only twenty seven snaps for Dante last week.
Is that just load management? Is the ankle still not
all the way back?
Speaker 46 (01:38:54):
Is it a little of both, Yeah, I mean probably
a little both, you know, trying to work him back
in and and and obviously he's not one hundred percent.
Speaker 24 (01:39:02):
I think if you see watch the film you can
see that.
Speaker 46 (01:39:04):
And but but obviously having his presence out there and
being around our guys is huge for us.
Speaker 7 (01:39:10):
You know.
Speaker 46 (01:39:10):
So but but yeah, I mean I think if you
even go back, I mean, he's not probably not playing
more than thirty five snaps anyway. So normally we rotate
a lot of guys up front. We're going to rotate
a lot of linebackers. I mean, you know, anytime there's
a change for offensive personnel, then we're going to rotate.
Speaker 24 (01:39:26):
So so we're always going to continue to do that.
Speaker 46 (01:39:28):
But but hopefully each and every week as we go
through the remainder of this season, that that hopefully is
healing up, you know better and better.
Speaker 5 (01:39:34):
How much of their success in the run game was
maybe showing stuff that they hadn't put on tape with
a new play caller. Was there anything to that or
did they just they had a really good time.
Speaker 46 (01:39:43):
I think they did a good job with what they
did offensively, they were more sound I think offensually got
into some unbalanced personnel. A couple of plays that got
out on us, I thought was a crack replaced where
we didn't replace, and they had a forty one yard
run on that. A couple times we didn't spill the
blocker on the interier and they popped a couple of runs.
(01:40:04):
So really a couple of runs we didn't fit right.
But I bet again give them some credit.
Speaker 3 (01:40:08):
I thought.
Speaker 24 (01:40:09):
I thought it running back ran hard. Thought the offensive
line blocked well.
Speaker 46 (01:40:12):
And then the quarterback, you know, he presents problems because
he's very athletic. Once he got out and got loose
a few times, you know, picked up a few rushing yards,
scored a touchdown, you know. So, But I do think
there were a lot more sound in their in their
game planning for this. This is the first time that
the new play caller was was calling. I thought you
did a good job.
Speaker 8 (01:40:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:40:33):
Soresby's ability to distribute the ball to different people. Is
that something I don't know if you can coach that
or is that just based on game plans each week?
How was how's he done so well there?
Speaker 46 (01:40:41):
Yeah, I mean he's done a really good job with that.
Just because it comes back to taking what the defense
gives us. You know, I think in the past I've
had I've had maybe you know, where there's one or
two guys we want to get the ball to, and
so we just keep calling the place for those one
or two guys. That's not been the case this year.
I feel like we were blessed to have a bunch
of guys that can make and so this year it's
(01:41:02):
more about calling to play because we like the way
the play looks against that defense, and then not really
caring where the ball goes, like all right, what is
the defense doing? Who are they covering? Hit the ball
to the to the uncovered guy. And I think that's
why you've been able to see the distribution of the ball.
You know, with a bunch of different guys making some
great catches, a couple of running backs that can make
(01:41:23):
plays for us, you got to, you know, the tight
ends are making plays, and so I think it's very
difficult to defend that when you have so many guys
that are making plays. And doesn't you know a great
example is Cyrus Allen had one catch last week and
then this past game, you know, he gets three touchdowns.
I mean, so you just never know when the ball
is going to find you. But when it does, you
have to be prepared and ready to go make a play.
Speaker 19 (01:41:43):
Scott, With you guys on a six game winning streak,
how much fun are you having coaching this team right
now as they just continue to stack wins and now
being ineligible?
Speaker 46 (01:41:55):
Yeah, you know it goes back to really back to
this summer with these guys. I mean, these guys are
fun to be around. They're you know, just being hanging
out in the building here. We've been saying this all
summer of how we love being around the guys and
they love being around each other, sitting in this you know,
obviously awesome building that we're in here, and then you know,
as you start playing and winning, obviously winning is fun.
(01:42:17):
But but what's fun about our guys too, is is
just the week, Like the week preparation like like it's
fun of Tuesdays practice and Wednesdays practice and then getting
a Thursday and Friday. Like, it's just fun being around
them because they're they're so intentional in their work of
what they're putting in and their routine.
Speaker 24 (01:42:32):
That's that's what's fun.
Speaker 21 (01:42:33):
You know.
Speaker 46 (01:42:34):
I think Saturday is just showing them, you know, just
the fruit of all the labor they're putting in throughout
the whole week.
Speaker 22 (01:42:42):
Get the win to turn over battle again, how did
it feel to be able to have the ball bounce
you guys as a way, you know, earlier in the
season it's a few fumble forced fumbles, what they bounced
right back into the teams you know hand.
Speaker 3 (01:42:54):
You know, just how did it feel to win that back?
Speaker 46 (01:42:57):
Well, that's outstanding. And to finally get an interception was
was very joyful to say the least. And then you know,
when we do him hitting the sideline, you know, it
felt like you had a chance to score, which was great.
It's you know, I think a lot of the coaches
have talked about it sometimes just the law of averages.
Sometimes if it doesn't go your way, eventually it will
(01:43:18):
and we finally got some this this past week. But
that's a huge deal. I got to me, it's one
of the number one stats you got to look at us,
turnover margin. It's gonna give you the best opportunity and
chance to win games if you can take care of
the football and then obviously if you can create some turnovers.
And we've done a good job this year defensively of
of you know, punching out the ball, creating some fumbles,
you know, and and again we got one Saturday with
(01:43:40):
the with the bad snap, and then you know, getting
the interception was huge in the fourth quarter because you
know that that game was was kind of back and
forth in the third and then we are to blow
it open in the fourth quarter because of those those mishaps.
Speaker 5 (01:43:51):
How much does it help that your pressure rates not
doesn't jump off the page at you, but your sack
rate has been you know, a lot better than the
pressure rate, I guess would indicate how much of a
help has that been. You haven't been able to force
the turnovers at the rate you'd like maybe, but you
have been able to get to the quarterback.
Speaker 24 (01:44:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 46 (01:44:09):
Yeah, I mean, you know, we're we're picking and choosing
when we're going to get to the quarterback. I mean,
there's just a fine line in there where you know,
if you bring pressure, you know, if they get get
out on you, then it's probably going to the touchdown,
you know, so but if you don't, then you can
keep everything in front of It's just a fine line,
you know. Obviously we'd love to shut them down every
play and get sacks and turnovers. I mean, that's what
in everybody, you know, I think. But you have to
(01:44:30):
be calculated in what you're doing, you know. I thought Saturday,
one time we brought a bunch of pressure. The quarterback
gets out and he launches one about fifty five yards
near and it hitting on the sideline. Was a big
play form great play by the quarterback and receiver.
Speaker 24 (01:44:44):
But you know, but we tried to get after him
right there. But other times we've not.
Speaker 46 (01:44:47):
We've just rushed three and then have that linebacker spot
and we've been able to get some pressure that way.
So I do think, you know, we have to continue
to mix it up. We do have to get some
pressure on the quarterback. They can't sit back there all day.
I mean, these guys were playing, especially the next five
quarterbacks we're playing, are really good, you know, as we
finish out this season. So there'll be a big test
for us this week playing this offense.
Speaker 5 (01:45:10):
How much different is it going you face the last
two quarterbacks or looking to get out of the pocket scramble.
Baylor's not really looking to get out of the pocket
and run around. They're looking to push the thing down
the field and make plays over the top of you
how much different for your defense is that during the week.
Speaker 24 (01:45:25):
Yeah, I mean I think it's a difference for sure.
Speaker 46 (01:45:27):
You know, Central Florida's guy could really run, you know,
and then of course last week this guy could run
as well. So yeah, I mean this quarterback at Bader's
looking to throw the ball down the field. They do
get rid of the ball pretty quickly. They have some
really good weapons on the outside. So yes, you got
to defend it a little bit different, I think, you know,
so defensively, you know, you don't have to worry about
(01:45:48):
the quarterback taking off and running and getting yards from you.
Speaker 24 (01:45:52):
But there's different things that we have to worry about,
you know, the accuracy that.
Speaker 46 (01:45:55):
He has, the strong arm that he has, the ability
to throw the ball down the field in tight windows,
you know where maybe the last two that couldn't do that.
So there's just some differences that you're gonna have to
defend more so than the q run.
Speaker 3 (01:46:12):
Baylor's.
Speaker 22 (01:46:13):
You know, they score a lot of points, there's no
no qualms about it, but they give up a lot
of points. You know, I see their their run defenses,
they normally give up close to two hundred yards, Like,
how do you with you guys is lying.
Speaker 21 (01:46:27):
How do you kind of look at that and.
Speaker 22 (01:46:28):
Just say, hey, you know, Saturday, we can probably take
advantage of that.
Speaker 46 (01:46:32):
Yeah, I mean, you know, I'm looking at the film
and I see watching their defense, and I think their
defense is very good. I'm trying to find the yards
that they're giving up because you start watching these cut
ups and it's like they're not really giving up a lot.
Speaker 24 (01:46:46):
Doesn't look like to me.
Speaker 46 (01:46:47):
I think they're very sound. I think their d line
gets after. I think number zero is a really good player.
I think number eleven there's an outstanding linebacker, all big
twelve linebacker.
Speaker 24 (01:46:57):
They're athletic in the back.
Speaker 15 (01:46:58):
End, you know.
Speaker 24 (01:47:00):
But you're right.
Speaker 46 (01:47:01):
I mean they have given up some points, you know,
But they're in every game. I mean they're they're literally
in every game. Like last week, you're watching that game
and it was three minutes to go, and every down
twenty one, I'm thinking, oh, this game is over. Well
TCU fumbles, they pick it up and run it in,
they get an on side. I mean, they're really right
back in the game. It's incredible. So, you know, a
league is not never good enough. I don't think to
(01:47:21):
say against against this team. The way they can move
the ball, the way they can score, you know, very
scary team for.
Speaker 3 (01:47:28):
Sure, Scott.
Speaker 19 (01:47:30):
When you look at your team, does it look like
to you with the expectations coming in season from the
outside maybe not being as high as what you guys
have been performing at, is this team playing with a
chip on their shoulder? Are they just playing for each
other and seeing, let's see how good we can be.
Speaker 46 (01:47:49):
Yeah, I think they're absolutely playing a chip on their
shoulder for sure. I think each and every time we
go out on the practice field or a game field,
we've got something to prove. And I think that's the
way they're preparing and that's what they're trying to do
in the game games, you know, trying to prove something.
And I think whenever anytime you have that mentality, then
you're going to give yourself a chance. And I really
(01:48:10):
so we talk about this every week and like two
were like numb talking about how it's all about our process.
It all about how we prepare, It's how we take
care of our bodies throughout the week.
Speaker 24 (01:48:20):
It's about Tuesdays practices.
Speaker 46 (01:48:22):
Like game game day for us today, you know, so
so just stole any things I think if this team
has done.
Speaker 24 (01:48:27):
A great job of the preparation throughout the week, which
is showing up on game day last year.
Speaker 2 (01:48:33):
All right, that is most of Scott Ciderfield speaking to
members of the media earlier this afternoon. How about that
Austin Baylor number one passing offense in the country. You
could have given me a ton of guesses to guess,
not guest Baylor would not have guessed Baylor coming into
Cincinnati four and three. Uh, they lost to Auburn, They
lost to Arizona State twenty seven to twenty four, and
(01:48:54):
then a forty two to thirty six loss at TCU.
Their wins thirty five thirty four of a Kansas State
forty five I twenty seven over Oklahoma State at the
time seventeenth ranked SMU. They beat them forty eight to
forty five, So they are equipped to win in a shootout.
U See's defense is going to have to be better
than what they have been in recent weeks. But the
(01:49:14):
one resounding thing I take from this team, and I
talked about it a little bit on Saturday with Dan.
Every team to start the year they have goals to
win a championship. Conference championship. Now everyone says it. It's
different when you can see a team start to believe
it and watching how you see and the players talk,
(01:49:35):
watching how they prepare, watching how they play. Like, I
genuinely feel like this is a team that thinks they
can go win the Big twelve Championship and that confidence
puts them at a level to where they can go
and compete week in and week out. And I view
them as doing that. I genuinely think each game they
play they have a great chance to go win it.
(01:49:56):
That starts with Saturday, four o'clock Niffer Stadium against bel Er.
Speaker 3 (01:50:01):
Take a break. I look forward to your comprehensive breakdown
of the three three five defense tomorrow. Yep, I'm ready
for that. I know Tyson Vite is a fan of
the show. Love Coach Fight. Don't be afraid to you know,
you don't be afraid to be critical.
Speaker 2 (01:50:15):
I'll say one teaser about the three three five. Okay,
it's a lot easier to be successful with the three
three five when Dante Corleon's that dead knows when Dante
Corleone is not there makes up three three five a
little bit more vulnerable, little more barbecue chicken, Little chicken,
we'll talk more about that tomorrow. For the first time today,
we'll open up the phone lines foot three seven, fifteen thirty.
(01:50:38):
We'll get your calls next on the Home of the Bengals,
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 47 (01:50:42):
Now sixty is back on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (01:50:52):
Welcome back since he three sixty. Move it ahead, hour
number three on a Tuesday. Thanks our friends at Penn Station.
You just heard from Scott Saderfield. I believe Austin. Tomorrow
we get to hear from Zach Taylor. That's right, Zach
Taylor Weekly Press Conference one o'clock tomorrow, we'll hear from
Zach Taylor. Now let's hear from you for the first
(01:51:13):
time this afternoon.
Speaker 17 (01:51:14):
What's going on, Mike, Hey, fellas, little new format there, eh,
changing it up a little bit, Yes, sir, you're doing
your it's more like mo soh.
Speaker 7 (01:51:25):
Now push it to the end. That's what it is. Hey,
You know you were talking about anyway, You got a
lot of heartwarming support calls there today. Now let's just
let's just don't let those hat sizes get any bigger.
Speaker 3 (01:51:42):
Okay, you can't get any bigger on this one say,
Tony's got a huge melon.
Speaker 7 (01:51:48):
I never thought of it that big when I was frowning,
but maybe you did.
Speaker 15 (01:51:52):
Oh, it's you've metaphorically speaking. Okay, here we go. So
you were talking about Burrow and Flacco talking on the sidelights,
and I can understand that because Joe Burrow is going
to tell him the idiosyncrasies of this offense, you know,
(01:52:13):
all that with with the receivers helping him figure out options.
Speaker 21 (01:52:18):
And what have you.
Speaker 7 (01:52:19):
But let's face it, Joe Blaco could give Joe Burrow
a lesson on playing quarterback because he's been doing it
twice as long.
Speaker 2 (01:52:28):
I mean, he's seen, yeah, he's he's seen stuff because
of the time he's been in the league that that
few other quarterbacks have seen. So I made the case
yesterday with Mo if I'm the Bengals, depending on regardless
of what happens going forward, if Joe Flacco is interested
in playing football or being around football next year, I
could think of no better player to slide in as
(01:52:49):
a backup role than having Joe Flacco in Cincinnati. If
it were behind Joe Burrow.
Speaker 7 (01:52:55):
Oh that would be awesome. And if Joe keeps, you know,
performing Joe Flacco. This is getting hard Burrow and Flaco Jojo.
If Blacco keeps going, it's not like Joe Burrow won't
be able to get a job back, right.
Speaker 2 (01:53:10):
Yeah, Yeah, it's never It's never going to get to
that point. But what it does do, if Flacco can
perform the way that people are hoping, it would give
a little bit more of an indication or more of
a push to see, Okay, can Burrow really get back
this year? Because when Browning was in there, it was
I wouldn't even worry about Joe coming back this year.
Get to the end of the season if they can
(01:53:31):
replicate what they were able to do on Thursday. All
of a sudden, the conversation turns to, Okay, is there
a legit possibility that Joe comes back? And if so,
what can that look like with with where the team stands.
Speaker 7 (01:53:43):
It all depends on that running game, as you guys
stress all the time, the running game and the defense.
You know, you said you're not quite sold on Sam Darnold,
but I'll tell you right now, I'd take him over
Jordan Love.
Speaker 2 (01:53:59):
He's shown more consistent and see to be honest and Love,
I just I hate how Darnold finished the year last
year because he had so much going and then he
just struggled down the stretch in those big games. But
I think he's he's surrounded by a good spot in Sea.
Out of they got a good defense. I like the coach,
and how can you not like what you have in
Jackson Smith and.
Speaker 21 (01:54:17):
Jigba and the way did Chiefs look now?
Speaker 2 (01:54:21):
Good luck rest of the Chiefs chiefs now most said
it yesterday. It felt like the Chiefs opened the door
for others to kind of kick it down, and no
one kicked it down.
Speaker 3 (01:54:30):
And now the Chiefs are back.
Speaker 7 (01:54:32):
The boy are they ever back? And uh, I'm looking
at a rams sheet super Bowl. I think that's what
it might end up being. I hope, so hope. So anyway,
can I talk a little baseball playoffs? Do you mind?
Speaker 3 (01:54:45):
Sure?
Speaker 7 (01:54:48):
Okay, it's Dodger pitching stamp as they told you. They
finally got healthy and that little small ball that Toronto
plays is really fun and it's and they score runs.
They do a good they Guerrero's the power hitter for real.
He's been on such a blistering case. I don't see
(01:55:08):
that continuing at four forty two or whatever they always doing.
But the Dodgers starters have a one point four to
oher era after the first ten playoff games, and Tasaki,
who's normally a starter right as the closer, now his
THERA through those first ten games is one point twenty nine.
(01:55:31):
So good good luck Toronto hitting this team. And uh, alright,
Toronto's pitching is yeah, it's okay, it's SU's average. That's
about it. So what do you guys think about this
upcoming World Series.
Speaker 2 (01:55:46):
I Toronto's been the best hitting team average wise in
the playoffs. They were also the best hitting team throughout
the regular season in Major League Baseball. They hit it
two sixty five. Dodgers weren't far behind it at two
fifty three. It's it is the whole home runs, and
there is a significant gap between what Toronto was able
to do one hundred and ninety one, which isn't anything
(01:56:06):
to scoff at. That's eleventh and major League baseball. But
the Dodgers, they just changed the game with the home
run ball. I think I think an interesting factor in
this series coming up. Bobashett has been out with the
knee injury. If Bobaschet can get out and be anything
what he was during the regular season. I think it
makes that line up a lot tougher. But again, the
star power for me still resides on the Dodgers side,
(01:56:29):
and I would I would lean Dodgers in this series.
Speaker 3 (01:56:32):
Me, it's like, can Vladdie keep up with show Hey,
because show Haye is going to do some crazy stuff.
He's going to hit some homers. He's the best player
on planet Earth. Can Vladdie match his star power with
some big moments and some big hits and some big
home runs for Toronto as well? So for me, I'm
just most excited to see those two guys the stars
(01:56:52):
and see them go ahead to head as both, especially
when show haes on the Mountain two.
Speaker 7 (01:56:57):
You got it, That's That's just what I was doing.
The difference between Joey and everybody is he can pitch
as good as anybody. He could win a cy Young
if he was just a pitcher. I'm sure of it.
I just hope it's a good series, and I hope
it goes seven games so we get more and more
baseball and can I can I real quick go over
(01:57:17):
the rest of the Bengals schedule with you? You got
another minute?
Speaker 4 (01:57:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:57:21):
We got a minute.
Speaker 7 (01:57:24):
Hell now, I don't know where I put my phone.
I hit it down in my phone. Well you probably
have it there.
Speaker 3 (01:57:29):
Jets, Bears, Steelers are the next three.
Speaker 7 (01:57:34):
Yeah, okay, I got them beating the Jets. But the
Jets ain't no pushover, like Austin was mentioning, I got
them losing to the Bears. The Bears, I think are
on an uptick and they are dangerous, and they've got
seven or eight guys who may be all pros this year.
Speaker 3 (01:57:52):
And then at Pittsburgh home against New England at Baltimore.
Speaker 7 (01:57:57):
I don't got them beating the Patriots if they keep
on this track they're going, and if if their quarterback
keeps playing the way he is, that's.
Speaker 3 (01:58:04):
Kind of it.
Speaker 7 (01:58:07):
Yeah it is at home though, right it is, Yes,
So that's a blessing. And then we got to play
Baltimore twice. But what to make of Baltimore? Do you?
Everybody keeps saying they're gonna come on Tony, but in Austin,
but I don't just don't see it.
Speaker 2 (01:58:23):
Well, this weekend, you'll learn a lot this weekend because
they play the Bears. So something's got to give. Bears
have won four in a row Baltimore is skidding. I
think we get to see how legitimate the Bears are
and if the Ravens have any fight left in him.
Speaker 3 (01:58:36):
On Sunday.
Speaker 7 (01:58:37):
Yeah, is Lamar coming back this week?
Speaker 3 (01:58:41):
Unclear? He didn't practice yesterday apparently, so uh that doesn't
mean that much though, because they're coming off of bye week.
But it's unclear still.
Speaker 2 (01:58:51):
And No, I think Dolphins, Cardinals, Brown's down the stretch.
Arizona has shown flashes, but they just don't make the
plays necessary to win big game. Although they've been in
a lot of them. I still think they can. They
can win those three down the stretch if they're in
a position for meaningful football.
Speaker 7 (01:59:07):
Yeah, let's hope.
Speaker 21 (01:59:09):
So.
Speaker 7 (01:59:09):
But Arizona, those were any of those last year? That's
the one that worries me most.
Speaker 3 (01:59:13):
Anyway, Thanks, yes, sir, have a good one. Uh one
more here? What's up?
Speaker 21 (01:59:18):
Jt hey Man?
Speaker 37 (01:59:22):
This time last week I was going to Tony Pike
anonymous meetings and my doctor was trying to wean me
off Tony Pike. And this week it's like the bar is.
Speaker 7 (01:59:35):
Open bar and I'm here for it.
Speaker 42 (01:59:37):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:59:39):
Let's go, let's go.
Speaker 37 (01:59:41):
Question yes, and for you guys, Phypothetically, if Joe Flacco
is playing elite quarterback and I know this is kind
of out there, but indulge me. If the Bengals are
eleven and three and Joe Flacco is playing an elite
quarterback position, Joe Burrow is healthy, who we play and
(02:00:09):
that circumstance.
Speaker 3 (02:00:12):
Joe Burrow, Yeah, Joe Burrow. Still it would still be
Joe Burrow.
Speaker 7 (02:00:17):
Great, I like the decisive this yep, right to heave
you back, Tony.
Speaker 3 (02:00:20):
Thank you, JT. So it could be tough to be
eleven and three when you already got four losses. But yeah,
Joe Burrow is I think the best quarterback in the
NFL and makes it to five million dollars and just
last year, let the NFL in yards and touchdown passes.
Speaker 2 (02:00:35):
Uh, for what it's worth. Let us not forget you
mentioned the Bears and the Ravens. Any guess what that
spread is this weekend in Baltimore job Bears. I'm gonna
say it's in Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (02:00:45):
Yes, I'm gonna say Chicago two and a half Baltimore
minus six and a half. I don't get that people
still love the Ravens. That's disrespectful to the Chicago Bear.
It is six and a half, is the line. It
is disrespectful to the Chicago Bears, who have won four
(02:01:06):
straight games now. They've played the Saints and Cowboys and
Raiders among three of those. But still I don't understand
six and a half. Chicago is fourteenth in the NFL
and passing yards per game, They're tenth in the NFL
in scoring offense. They're eighth in the NFL and rushing
(02:01:28):
yards per game. And their defense is not great. They're
giving up twenty five a game. That's twenty fifth in
the NFL. That's not a bad football team, and Baltimore
is worse. So riddle me this, batman. Any guess what
the current line is for Bears Bengals the following week.
(02:01:49):
I'm gonna say, keep in mind Baltimore a six and
a half point favorite at home. I'm gonna say Bengals
three and a half. Bengals plus one and a half,
So a slight hole dog. As I said, it tells
you how they think about the Bengal exactly. We'll take
a break, we'll come back. We've got plenty more still
to go between now and three o'clock. On this the
Home of the Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 9 (02:02:13):
With Dave Lapham's enshrinement into the Bengals Ring of Honor,
we pay tribute to the Life of lap presented.
Speaker 10 (02:02:20):
By Skyline Feeling Good against Skyline Time.
Speaker 8 (02:02:24):
Now Here's Dan and d.
Speaker 11 (02:02:25):
Lap Hear, the starting left guard in the bengals first
Super Bowl appearance, describe running out of the tunnel to
face the forty nine.
Speaker 3 (02:02:33):
Ers that day in Detroit.
Speaker 12 (02:02:34):
Man, I don't think my feet hit the ground one time. Really,
it was such a surreal experience. I mean, put me
on cloud nine. I was definitely on cloud nine, maybe
ninety nine. It was amazing. Thing I remember most about
that year, not that family wasn't a big part of
the football in playing football, They obviously really were excited
(02:02:56):
about watching me play at whatever level it was, high school, college, NFL,
but to play in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (02:03:01):
And I remember my grandfather saying.
Speaker 12 (02:03:03):
I cannot believe and I'm watching a grandson of mine
play in the Super Bowl in the National Football League?
Speaker 13 (02:03:10):
What is going on?
Speaker 9 (02:03:11):
For more on the Life of laugh keep it here
on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 47 (02:03:19):
Three sixty continues on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (02:03:31):
Welcome back sincey three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station, Thanks to Penn Station. Thank you for listening
on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. It is already
Austin week eight in the NFL season. How does that
make you feel?
Speaker 7 (02:03:46):
Sad?
Speaker 3 (02:03:48):
Is it going by too fast? I wouldn't say that,
because I think I've done a good job of enjoying it.
Soaking it in. Yeah, I really do. I like to
soak it all.
Speaker 2 (02:03:57):
Do you soak in every moment of football? Tuesday and
Thursday night? Are you tuned in to the the uh
the International Games at nine am?
Speaker 3 (02:04:07):
Yeah? Well, I couldn't this past weekend I was in
I was in Columbus at the Columbus Marathon, but I
was following along on my phone. Sunday kind of boycotted
the International Series games just because they kind of pissed
me off. Okay, yeah, no, I soak it all in.
Speaker 2 (02:04:25):
We touched on this yesterday. Asked Mom about it yesterday
as well. Are you concerned with how the NFL is
going about scheduling games?
Speaker 3 (02:04:32):
Yeah? Are they going to get in their own way.
Speaker 7 (02:04:33):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (02:04:34):
I've talked about this. Uh, just the Sunday slate wasn't great.
It just wasn't a great slate of games.
Speaker 4 (02:04:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:04:42):
The way I view it is you're pushing everybody towards
these streaming platforms that you have, whether that be NFL
Plus or Paramount Plus or Sunday Ticket or YouTube TV
or whatever it is. And so people will do that
and they get any game anytime, and that's cool, and
(02:05:02):
that's great, and that's how I watch it. I love
to watch Red Zone when I'm not watching the Bengals specifically,
but there are a ton of people that watch the
game on TV with the regular package, and because there
are fewer games, there are fewer options for them outside
of their local team whenever their local team may not
be playing or is playing at a different time that
(02:05:24):
they don't really want to watch or have the you know,
the not interesting games, and so you're watering. You're making
that product, that version of your product less enjoyable to
the very common fan. And then when you think about
your media partners and your whether it's YouTube or Prime
(02:05:45):
or whomever, like, if you're making so many different games
two games on ESPN, two games in London, whatever like.
It makes it waters down that product too, because red
zone I'm getting less games. Yep, and I don't like that.
Speaker 2 (02:06:03):
This week, no international game, Thursday Night football, I think
an interesting one.
Speaker 3 (02:06:08):
Who do we think the Chargers are? I have no idea.
Speaker 2 (02:06:11):
I thought for a while ahead of schedule, I think
they're hurt. I thought contending injuries have decimated them. Are
the four and three Panthers a thread at all to
the Bills?
Speaker 3 (02:06:23):
No, I don't think I think the Bills are a
thread to the Bills. By the way, in that Thursday
Night game, Kevin O'Connell said, Carson Wentz will start, Oh,
Max Brosmer will be the backup. JJ McCarthy really went
through a workout. Not quite there yet. I don't think
he's gonna be quite there for a while.
Speaker 24 (02:06:41):
Oh boy.
Speaker 2 (02:06:42):
Patriots, Browns Eagles Giants seven and a half. Do the
Giants like rally after that meltdown or do they go
in the other direction? Is this like a get right
game for the Eagles. Yeah, I don't know if i'd
say that, I don't know they'd say it's a get
right game. I mean, I think you have to pay
a little bit more attention to the to the Giants.
I figure the Giants coming a little bit angry based
(02:07:04):
off the way things happened Bears Ravens. We talked about
that one already. Uh is there a franchise Austin in
the NFL heading more in the wrong direction than the
Houston Texans? They were the darlings just a few years ago.
Speaker 15 (02:07:18):
They are.
Speaker 2 (02:07:20):
Team like that, that team that was so close that
felt like they were on the cusp, and now just
moving in the wrong direction.
Speaker 3 (02:07:26):
I think Tennessee is moving in the wrong direction. I
think Miami is moving in the right. Yeah, wrong direction.
Speaker 2 (02:07:31):
Were they at the level of Texans where? I mean
that the hype around Stroud, the hype around that team now.
Speaker 3 (02:07:37):
Two and four, still can't believe they what they did
with their coaching staff and their offensive line after that
was just stupid moves. But that guy, what's that guy's
name who runs that joint down there? Who's that GM?
Nick Cassario, one of those former Patriot guys. Have you
noticed the former Patriots are everywhere?
Speaker 7 (02:07:53):
Yep?
Speaker 3 (02:07:54):
Television analyst rolls Patriots all over the place. Anyways, that
guy thinks he's the smartest person in football and see
what happens.
Speaker 4 (02:08:05):
CJ.
Speaker 3 (02:08:05):
Stroud also when he did that thing to Caleb Williams, Yeah,
didn't look good. Changed him. I also have seen the
screenshot of c J. Stroud's Instagram story from last year,
oh going around, where he listed the top five quarterbacks
in the NFL. Yeah he put himself number three. Yep.
Speaker 2 (02:08:22):
Not great there, Siege, you get the Bucks and the Saints,
you get the Cowboys and the Broncos, which I actually
think is an interesting one.
Speaker 3 (02:08:30):
Titans and Colts.
Speaker 2 (02:08:31):
That is a fourteen and a half point spread on
Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday Night Football Packers Steelers,
Rogers going up against the Packers.
Speaker 3 (02:08:41):
How about this? Two stats for you on this game.
The Packers have not beaten the Steelers in Pittsburgh since
Bart Starr was the quarterback. Wow, how about that? And
Steelers are wearing their throwback uniforms which feature a yellow hell.
It'll be the first time since I don't know, maybe
(02:09:04):
the sixties. It would be a long long time. I
don't remember the exact date that there has been a
dual yellow helmet matchup man between those two teams. I
think back. It's like the Super Bowl or something a
long time ago. These are the little things that I
care about. Jaydon Dan talk about soaking it all in.
Speaker 2 (02:09:25):
Yeah, there it is right there, Jayde and Daniels status
for Monday Night football is uncertain. According to Dan quinn,
right now, they're a ten and a half point dog
against the Chiefs. Disappointed with how the Commanders have started
their season, Yeah, disappointed, but I wouldn't say surprised. Injuries
have been a part of their downfall as well. Yeah,
but this just feels like a game the Chiefs win,
(02:09:46):
and all of a sudden, here we are again talking
about the Chiefs of the team to be.
Speaker 3 (02:09:50):
So the one o'clock slate Sunday, Miami Atlanta, Cleveland, New England. Okay,
that might actually be a good contest, and there's some
familiarity there with Mike Vrabel and that defense Giants Eagles.
I think those teams are both interesting. Buffalo Carolina, don't care, Chicago, Baltimore, uh,
San Francisco, Houston feels like it's going to be the
(02:10:12):
exact same game that Houston just played last night.
Speaker 7 (02:10:14):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (02:10:15):
Four o'clock slate Tampa, New Orleans, No, thank you, Dallas, Denver, Okay, Tennessee, Indy. No,
thank you, and that's it. Yeah, only three in the
four o'clock windows because there are six teams on a
buy and there's a Thursday and Monday game. But I
think it's all gonna be worth it. With Green Bay
and Pittsburgh on Sunday night, think big one, a big one.
(02:10:37):
Lowest ticket available this weekend, have you seen it? It's
got to be Colts Titans. They're the second lowest. Fifty
one dollars tickets as low as twenty six dollars to
get you in to see Tampa and New Orleans at
the Dome.
Speaker 2 (02:10:51):
Wow, people ain't gonna leave Bourbon Street to go in
there for that. You would think get probably one or
two grenades.
Speaker 7 (02:10:56):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (02:10:56):
I lied?
Speaker 17 (02:10:57):
Huh?
Speaker 3 (02:10:59):
Tomorrow Thursday I game twenty four dollars. Vikings at Chargers,
that's h Chargers. Chargers in La'd sell a ticket off
their life dependent on it. Would you guess the most
expensive ticket?
Speaker 4 (02:11:11):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (02:11:11):
Based on what we just talked about, it's got to
be Packers Steelers Incorrect, it would be Giants at Eagles
two and sixty eight dollars. No, Cowboys Broncos three eleven,
three eleven. Oh my goow, I'm bad at numbers to
go see the Cowboys. Cowboys in AFC city doesn't have it.
Bengals tickets are a little expensive. It will be eighty bucks.
(02:11:33):
Seventy bucks now this says eighty four cast I looked
it was like ninety. Well they end up going to
the game. I kind of want to go. I haven't
been to a game and Cincinnati. We'll wrap it up.
We don't get Moger today. Most busier in a one
armed wallpaper hanger. Most busy, but he is going to
be at Oakley Greens. We'll wrap things up with quick
hits next on the Home of the Bengals ESPN fifteen
(02:11:54):
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 20 (02:11:56):
Y Cincinnati to make us the number one since the
three sixty years on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station,
it's time for since the three sixty quick hits on
ESPN fifteen thirty.
Speaker 3 (02:12:10):
Was looking for most can't find him. He's not available today. Oh,
most set up. We will be able to find him. Yeah,
he's just not right now, just not there yet and
he's not ready to go extra few minutes. There's a
couple of things going on the big important people in
the National Football League with the media today, people like
Jeff Miller, who's an injury guy. What about NFL executive
(02:12:33):
Don Aponte, of course, what about Troy Vincent? Troy, no him.
Troy Vincent said that there hasn't been a lot of
internal discussion in the NFL about the Tush push, but
officials continue to say it's hard to officiate. You see,
Minnesota just laid down. I did see that. I thought
(02:12:54):
that was interesting, innovative. The NFL has also talked apparently
about playing surfaces okay, and that there's not a significant
difference in injury between grass and turf. Now, Albert Brier
said that a veteran reporter once told him that numbers
are like hostages. You can make them say whatever you want. Oh,
(02:13:18):
so that's something to keep an eye out on if
that's true. So okay. NFL injury guy Jeff Miller said
they've had two concussions and no ACL injuries on kick
returns this year, okay, and the concussion rate is much
lower than they expected.
Speaker 2 (02:13:36):
Been a talkbacker today that threw out the Cincinnati sports
parlay over the weekend, and I answered that I would
be most apprehensive, just because I know what the rivalry
is in FC Cincinnati against Columbus.
Speaker 3 (02:13:52):
How would you have answered most apprehensive?
Speaker 2 (02:13:55):
Which of these three Bearcats, Baylor, Bengals, Jets, FC Cincinnati
and Columbus.
Speaker 3 (02:14:02):
I would have the most confidence in FC Cincinnati, Now
I would have it would go f C Cincinnati most
confident and then Bearcats. But I do you know that
offense and the Bearcat defense. Yes, that worries me. It's
a little bit fair. And then I have the least
confidence in the Bengals. Okay, that's fair because they have
(02:14:24):
not earned my confidence yet this year. I'm thrilled with
what happened Thursday, but they haven't earned my confidence yet.
This Yep, that makes sense, Bob. Yeah, I think I'm
picking up what you're putting down. Do you know who
Justin Vive is? No, who's he? That's all right? Who
is he? He's like, these are one of the most
(02:14:45):
fascinating people in the history of sports. I think Justin Vive.
Justin Vive has played for the Cyclones for like twenty years.
Oh is he back?
Speaker 4 (02:14:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:14:55):
He's coming back this year. Oh heck yeah, dude, he's
Kelly cup Champ let's get him on the show. Well,
he won the Kelly Cup with the Fort Wayne Commons.
He left during the COVID year smart to go play
in Fort Wayne. I mean, this dude is is Zach
who played at Miami of Ohio and the first first
year with the Cyclones was twenty eleven to twenty twelve,
(02:15:16):
and he's had some other stops, but he came back
here twelve to thirteen, and then sixteen to seventeen, and
then seventeen to eighteen and pretty much here ever since. Okay,
it just keeps playing. He like owns every record in
the history of the franchise.
Speaker 2 (02:15:33):
Let me ask you one college football question. Shot out
to Justin Vive. Shout out to Justin Man. Love to
have you on the show sometime. Based on the college
football rankings and where things are out in the standings
right now, this is what it would look like if
the twelve team playoff were to happen tomorrow. Okay, Ohio
State would be your one seed. Sure, they would await
the winner of Oklahoma and Oregon, all right, that's the
eight nine game. Indiana would be the two seed. Indiana
(02:15:57):
would await the winner of number ten Georgia tech Verse
number seven old miss Okay. Number three would be Alabama.
They would wait the winner a Big twelve champion b
YU and the Miami Hurricanes, and then the fourth ranked
team would be Texas A and M. They would await
the winner of South Florida and Georgia. What does that
(02:16:20):
twelve team playoff.
Speaker 3 (02:16:21):
Field do for you? It doesn't do anything, doesn't mean anything.
I honestly in that field, shout out to Alex golesh
in that field.
Speaker 2 (02:16:28):
I don't know who the teams that could give Ohio
State a run are. I really don't and I'd like
to find a way. Maybe b YU.
Speaker 3 (02:16:42):
What about the Bearcats? What do you think if Ohio
State played uc tomorrow? What would the spread be spread?
I don't think Patricia would have an inklean of an
idea how to stop soarsby Who's right now from a
PFF standpoint ranked higher than Julian saying just sure, sure,
you're just saying ten and a half, okay, Buckeye's minus
(02:17:05):
ten and a half, Okay, all right, I think that'd
be fair by the way I say, if it's a
neutral site, flip a coin. Tomorrow on the show, we'll
have Zach Taylor at one pm with his weekly Wednesday
press conference, and at two pm talking Bearcats, our good
friend Keegan nickoson my second favorite Nicholson.
Speaker 2 (02:17:22):
That's right, Thanks for listening, Thanks for joining along. Mullegger
is next to The Mulagger Show at Oakley Greens. You're
listening on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports station.
Speaker 20 (02:17:53):

improved iHeartRadio app Free.
