Hike Sincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in
part by Skyline Chili. Stop by Skyline Chili for a
three way or cheese cony today. Feeling good, It's Skyline Time.
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Hello, Welcome in Happy Wednesday.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
ESBN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station, A service of our
good friends at Skyline Chili. Anytime you're feeling good and hungry,
it's always Skyline time. Thanks for joining along. We'll take
your phone calls today five one, three, seven, four nine,
fifteen thirty. We'll hear from Zach Taylor today, the head
coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. At one o'clock, Keegan Nicholson

(00:46):
Bearcat Journal dot Com will join us from Big twelve
Media Day happening right now. The women were up yesterday,
the men are up today. We'll catch up with Keegan
on all things Bearcats basketball, look ahead to UC's football
matchup against Baylor at Saturday. On Saturday at four o'clock
at historic Knippert Stadium. West Miller is going to speak today.

(01:10):
We might get some of that later in the show,
or we could play some of that tomorrow as well,
for what it's worth, Joe Flacco will speak to the
media later this afternoon once this show is done, and
we'll have some of that for you tomorrow as well,
along with our guy of our guy, John Shearon will
join us tomorrow since that'll be Thursday. But for today,
quite a lot to get to. We were asked yesterday

(01:33):
Austin about the three three five defense that Tyson Vite deploys.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
And my understanding is that you went home and you
really all you really did was was break down at
three three five, got in the tape, and so that's
what you're going to talk about in segment two for football.
Three three five defense makes a lot of sense.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
We'll talk about the pros, we'll talk about the cons
and maybe why the Bearcats use that defense.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Tyson Invite is listening, He's welcome to call in a coach.
Would love to have your thoughts on the three to
three five as well. I think it's worth note we
should have more of a DJ Turner conversation with how
well DJ Turner is playing Beast. And thanks to our
guy friend of the show, Jeremy Fowler, there's an NFL
trade deadline primer that ESPN put out and they listed

(02:18):
twenty five players on that list. Three come from the Bengals.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
We'll talk about that and are their teams out there,
and let's throw the Bengals in this bunch as well,
that if they make an addition, a substantial edition at
the deadline, could they jump to the contender line based
on where they're at right now. Before we get to
any of that, let's set up at the top sports
stories from yesterday Opening Night in the NBA. Yes Opening

(02:47):
Night in the Association, could you ask, if you're the NBA,
for a better game to start the season than a
double overtime game between what will be two contenders in
a loaded Western conference, the Rockets in the Thunder.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
They did a brilliant job with the storylines of this game.
Obviously defending champs open up at home banner night ring ceremony,
but you also have the Houston Rockets, the up and
coming Houston Rockets, who, oh, by the way, have maybe
the greatest player in the history of the Thunder franchise
in Kevin Durant on the other side, which they were

(03:23):
booing him every time he touched the ball. Yeah, so
that was why he didn't touch the ball late in
the game. Environment was unbelievable and going to double overtime
one twenty five, one twenty four, that was awesome.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Shay Gildris Alexander, the raigning MVP Austin had five points
at halftime. It's crazy he finished with thirty five in
the game.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
You know, Tarren and I were talking yesterday afternoon about
putting together a little parlay with the points scores, and
I was like, what if you do like Steph, Luca,
KD and SGA to all score twenty plus, you won't
get crazy good odds, right, but you know that's decent.
And Shay Gilgess Alexander on FanDuel yesterday to score twenty

(04:07):
plus was minus four thousand, crazy, a lot of nervous
people certified bucket getter and I did not end up
placing it. I wish I would have, obviously, but yeah, weird.
What about the ring ceremony the thunder rings last night,
Elite Elite rings. But what I like most is like

(04:28):
that now you see all these rings that the top
comes off and there's even more diamonds and more stuff
inside the ring. The thunder ring, you can take the
top off and then take out a normal ring that
you can wear around. Yeah, it's like, what a great idea.
If you have ever listened to Dan Patrick over the
last several years, he has been putting this idea out

(04:51):
there for a long time. Because the rings have gotten
to the point where they're not actually wearable. You can't
actually show off your Super Bowl ring or your NBA
Finals ring or whatever it might be, because they've gotten
so big. Now the thunder gets smart enough to say,
all right, let's do something here that's actually wearable when
it comes to this ring.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
YEP.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Game two last night. My favorite part of the whole
ceremony last night, though, was as they start raising the banner,
all the players come up and like touch it.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
That I thought was a really cool thing. And I
don't know if that was necessarily planned as much as
they just went and did it themselves.

Speaker 5 (05:24):
That was cool.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Game two last night saw Luca and the Lakers square
off with Steph Curry and the Warriors. Warriors made a
good run at the end of the year last year
with Jimmy Butler. Jimmy Butler was fantastic. Last night, Curry
was good, not great. And I say that because you
mentioned those parlays Austin. I had Luca thirty plus points,

(05:47):
eight plus boards, eight plus assists, but I added Steph
Curry twenty five or more.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Curry finished with just twenty three. He was three for
nine from three point land. Jonathan Kamingo scored more three
winners than Steph Curry. Jimmy Butler had thirty one. He
was good, although Steph did hit one from about a
mile away. He did.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Luca was phenomenal, But Warriors right now just a better
all around team than the Los Angeles Lakers.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
I have discovered in watching basketball and the limited capacity
that I do professional basketball, that I really like watching
Austin Reeves play and went and looked at the numbers
this morning. He had minus fourteen plus minus.

Speaker 5 (06:24):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Yeah, maybe he's not as good as I thought.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Tonight in the Association, our guy Mowagger's New York Knicks. Yeah,
they take on the Calves, and I think there's a
really good one late Austin Victor Webbin Yama Spurs, Cooper
Flag's MAVs.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Don't forget the MAVs got Kyrie ad. I gotta ask
Moe about later when it comes to the lineup tonight
for the Knicks. Okay, stuff going on?

Speaker 3 (06:51):
What do you make going on in the NFL with
Sean Payton and Russell Wilson.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Good for Russell Wilson, Yeah, good for him, man, because
Russell kind of has this character or this persona about
him and he broke that last night. He clapped back
at Sean Payton. Do you want to hear the audio? Yes,
So this is what Sean Payton, who was the former
head coach of Russell Wilson when he was in Denver,

(07:17):
this is what he had to say after the Broncos
beat the Giants led by Jackson Dart, who's backed up
by Russell Wilson this past Sunday.

Speaker 6 (07:28):
I'm kind of respect for that organization. I spent four
in my early years there coordinating Super Bowl first game
in this stadium before nine to eleven close with the
Maritish family, and you know, they found a little spark
with that quarterback. I was talking to John Mayer not

(07:52):
too long ago, and I said, we were hoping that
that change would have happened long long after our game.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
M saying we were hoping it would be Russell Wilson
playing for the Giants because we feel like he stinks well,
then Russell went to x Russell posts, he said, quote
classless but not surprised, and this line here, didn't realize
You're still bounty hunting fifteen plus years later through the media.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Obviously a shot at what I was a part of
bounty Gate. Yeah, and the New Orleans Saints.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
And then Russell added a hashtag let's rye up with
the laughing emoji at the end, and yeah, if you
look up Tony Pike Saints on Twitter or on Google,
you will see me taking some vicious hits from those
bounty Gate Saints back in twenty two. Believable holligans. And

(08:46):
keep in mind, the reason you were in the game
with the utmost respect, yeah, was because they killed the
guy before you. If I'm not mistaken, was that clawson
Jimmy Jimmy Clauson got his bell run. I just imagine
at some point during the week defensive meeting room, Greg
Williams leading the defensive feasting and he starts playing your

(09:07):
preseason film against the Ravens and he's saying, we got
to get this guy in the game now. He said, Hey,
guy that comes in the game, we got to get
him out quick. This guy gets just thinks you get ugly.
You guys get ten thousand dollars if you knock Jimmy
Clauson out of the game. We need Pike on the field.
They got me and I had a couple of drops ensued.
How about this going on in college basketball? Pat Kelsey

(09:30):
at Louisville got his twenty twenty six point guard. He
got him from the G League. Oh, that was a
time I thought, like G League means you're already past college.
That's not the case anymore. Tom Izzo said he doesn't
quote respect the NCAA power brokers who've allowed these moves
to happen. He said, I'm gonna get myself in trouble.
But I listened to people talk about how kids change.
Kids aren't the problem, We're the problem. This was sprung

(09:52):
on us again yesterday. Where a guy could be in
the G League for two or three years and then
all of a sudden he's eligible in college basketball. You
think that's okay? G leaguers coming back and playing in
college I don't really care. No one cares anymore.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Yeah, it's it's the wild Wild West, by the way,
that recruits named London Johnson, former four star recruit.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
It makes me think of former Bengal linebacker land In
John That's right, that's right, uh AFC offense. I don't
know that I've ever been more disinterested in high school
and college basketball, like just because of all of that. Sure,
like it's it's got, it's so weird. There's so many
different layers. It almost feels impossible to follow it. Yeah,

(10:37):
Like obviously at the local level, it's it's easier to
pay close attention to what you see in Xavier and
the mighty Mighty Norse are doing. But like as a whole,
it feels difficult to like follow college basketball. Almost overwhelming
to me, what else do we have?

Speaker 3 (10:52):
All this year's AFC offensive or this week's AFC Offensive
Player of the week. Let me guess, well, you could
have thought Jonathan Taylor no touchdown runs. You could have thought, well,
Bo Knicks had thirty three points in the fourth quarter,
and he ran the ball for two rushing touchdowns, and
he threw for two seventy nine and two passing touchdowns.
But that player is one Jamar Chase yep sixteen catches,

(11:16):
a buck sixty one and a touchdown.

Speaker 5 (11:25):
Tony.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Not only is Jamar Chase the AFC Offensive Player of
the Week. But we have breaking news as it regards
to the Bengals opponent on Sunday. Okay, it is being
reported now that Jets quarterback Tarrod Taylor, who was expected
to start on Sunday against the Bengals, is now considered

(11:47):
day to day with a knee injury. Tarrod Taylor now
day to day with a knee injury.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
Well, the good news is is they didn't, at least
from an ownership level, they didn't completely erase.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
The confidence of Justin Fields if he would have to
come back in what a dumpster fire? You know, I
bet Torod Taylor doesn't want to play the Bengals anymore.
Do you remember twenty twenty season opener. He's the starting
quarterback for the Chargers. Justin Herbert is his backup. Do
you remember this? No, before the game, I follow everything

(12:23):
Tyrod Taylor to Rod Taylor or Trod it's Trod. Oh,
you can say Tyrod though he doesn't care, my apologies,
gets this injection or whatever, and they punctured his lung. Yep,
he couldn't play the injection. That was crazy. That was
Burrow's first career game. Yeah, how about that.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
Mentioned yesterday, Xavier picked eighth in the Big East media poll.
I want to know for I want to hear from
Xavier folks today to Austin, Oh, what's the what's the
feel around the Xavier program?

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Is? Is this a free past year for Patino?

Speaker 7 (13:00):
Well?

Speaker 2 (13:01):
I would think so.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Our expectations in today's landscape, where the end, the transfer
portal and and everything else is running as rampant as
it is, are there are there.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Really free seasons for coaches? I would say, You know again,
I'm not. I wouldn't say I'm necessarily tapped in to hear,
you know, know exactly what every Xavier fan is thinking,
but I would imagine and the sense that I get
is that they're all still mad about Sean Miller and
understand that it's not an easy situation that Richard Patino

(13:30):
is being asked to come in and take over. And
so I don't know that the expectations are high, but
there is a standard with Xavier basketball, and if you
can at the bare minimum meet that standard and show
the fans at Xavier that Okay, there's something here, I'm
building something, then yeah, they'll they'll be fine. But I
don't know that they're looking at this team thinking we

(13:53):
got a chance to go back to the Sweet sixteen
or the Elite eight. I don't know that they're thinking
that one.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
But my question for again, because it's just kind of
been quiet, what are those minimum expectations? Like again, they're
they're they're not projected to be at the top of
the Big East, they're picked eighth locally, what are what
are the the feels around what would constitute as a
successful year one for Patino?

Speaker 2 (14:14):
I would like to know.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
And I know we have xavier folks that listen, so
call in or leave us to talk back today and
let us know. Also, before we get to our first break, Austin,
can I say something nonsports related that happened just about
a half mile from here last night, you know, the
the department store marshals? Yeah, are you familiar with you?

Speaker 2 (14:34):
You want to get into this now?

Speaker 5 (14:35):
Yeah? I need to.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
I need to get it off my chest. Well before
we do. We're meeting prior to the show today and
we're having a normal meeting. Everything's fine, We're talking about
stuff and there's this moment of silence and Tony then
blurts out to me, I got treated like a thief
at Marshall's last night. It's true, and I just like, yeah, listen,

(15:00):
I said, Okay, save it, we'll talk about it on
the air.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
I got home yesterday and Mayor tells me that, you know,
the the kids, Wilder and Wesley go to to preschool now,
and like.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
She's like, hey, you already knew that. She didn't tell you, Yeah, yeah, No,
She's always letting other people know.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
Ok.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
She told me that, hey, the fire department is visiting
the kids school tomorrow and it's going to be cold
in the morning. And because they've grown, Wilder and Wesley's
coats don't fit them anymore. Oh, so I'm like, well,
let's run over to Marshalls. Let's run it, because like, yeah,
Marshall's TJ Max, the mall is right across. Surely we
can find a coat for the kids somewhere. Sure, And

(15:39):
we went into Marshalls, and, as does many trips, you know,
a trip to just get two coats turns into a
trip that, you know, each kid got like three outfits somehow,
some way, which really not in the budget, but we
did it anyway. And so we got home last night,
Austin and the kids wanted to try on their new outfits.
They want to do like a little fashion thing to show. Hey,

(16:00):
here's the new outfit. Go show mom. Mom reacts. Kids
are excited, So like, get home, take the tags off everything,
put the kids in their outfits. They're showing it off.
Didn't try the coats on right away because they're coats.
We don't that's not an outfit. We don't need to
do that. So later setting the kids stuff out for school.

(16:24):
The next day, Wesley's coat still has that like ink tag.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
On it, the security tag. The security tag. These things
are just a pain. I know about this very well
time in retail. These things are a pain.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
Yeah, and so because she doesn't have a winter jacket
and it was gonna be freezing this morning, what am
I tasked with doing?

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Riding back over to Marshall's.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
So tags are already been taken off all the stuff, and
after the tags were taken off, Austin threw the receipt
away as.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Well, Okay, this is your fault. I don't want to
hear you would have thought, or we even get to
the end of this story. It is not on the
good people at Marshalls. It's on you. It is their
job to take that tag off. Yes, it is okay,
and it's your job to keep the receipt.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
When they they treated me, I walked in and right
to the front desk with the jacket in hand, like
here it is here, I am. I'm coming in with
the jacket. I didn't just leave with the jacket. Here
it is. They proceed to say, we need the receipt.

(17:36):
I say, I don't have the receipt. And I went
to explain that the kids just put on a fashion
show and we took the receipt and it was in
the garbage.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
They don't care the tag. They excuses that those people
here every day.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
I said, check the tapes. I used the term last night.
Check the tapes. I said, check the footage. I was
here an hour and a half ago. Look at me
walking out as I paid for all this stuff.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
Now what I would have done in your situation, I
would have pulled my phone out and opened my bank
app and said here's the transaction. That's the only thing
that got me eventually out of it.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
That's what you did. I opened my app. I said,
here is the transaction. I said, here's the card that
I used. And after minutes of this back and forth
after me being being treated like a convicted felon that
is in the market for stealing kids jackets.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Yeah, but tag was eventually taken off Tony Pike, bad guy. Yep,
that's what I thought was gonna happen. How about just
in the future just keep the receipt. Well, you live
and you learn. But the problem is when they tried on,
have you never take anything back? Yes, But here's the thing.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
They we put the jackets on them and tried it
on at the store because the jacket sizing's a little
different because you're wearing it over winter clothes. So they
already tried the jackets on, and by the time we
got home, they tried everything else on and it fit.
At that point, in my mind, there's no need to
keep the receipt. I get it, so good job.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Did you like? Where did you? By the way, if
you're listening to market, did you disintegrate the receipt was
garbage night, Why don't you just go pick it out
of the trash? Nope, bags had already been thrown in.
It was recycling as well, so other stuff had been
added in. But if you're listening for Marshalls and you
want to make this right. We'd love to have you
as a sponsor of sin T three sixty. I'd love Marshals.

(19:30):
I love the deals.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
I love that you can get clothes and shoes and
Christmas the Core and everything under one roof. Shout out
to Marshalls. Football in the Natti is next.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
Gave them a free plug.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Hey, let's go to them and now let's break down
some three three five baby ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station,
thanks to Skyline Chiley.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
Brought to you by Hey during Window Company on ESPN
fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
All right, welcome back. It is Football in the Natti
since he three to sixty. Thanks to Skyline Chili. Thank
you for listening. Austin, we were asked a question yesterday
by a talkbacker, right or was it a caller?

Speaker 2 (20:13):
I believe as a talkbacker, a.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
Talkbacker who wants to know more about the three three
five defense. And look, I get it because over the
last couple of weeks, you see has given up some
yards on the defensive side of the ball. And I
will say this, and I truly believe that you see
is as big of a proponent as the bend but
don't break style of defense. As you will find if

(20:38):
you go back to game one against Nebraska. If you're
telling me that you're going to beat Nebraska on the
ground by almost one hundred yards, I would say you
have a chance to win the game. If you tell
me going into the game that you're gonna hold Nebraska

(20:58):
to twenty with UC's I would have said you have
a chance to win the game. Now, games outside of that,
Bowling Green put up twenty on this defense, Kansas very
good offense put up thirty four, Iowa State put up thirty.
UCF scored eleven. Oklahoma State, albeit feeling like.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
The game was.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
Closer than maybe what it was, Oklahoma State was able
to get yards almost at will on the ground, But
again you look up and it's only seventeen points on
the board. They bend, they don't break. If you watch
a UC game, their style of play, their secondary, they
are much softer on the outside until a team crosses

(21:43):
about the forty yard line, and then they start to
tighten up, and as you get closer to the red zone,
they tighten it up even more. And then when you're
running a three, three, five, all of a sudden, you
get in the red zone, and for the most part
you're able to drop seven or eight guys into coverage.
That makes it hard on a quarterback. So I get
that side of things, but there are people that are wondering,

(22:04):
is three three five the right thing for this defense?
Just based on the three three five alone, three down linemen,
three linebackers, five defensive backs, so you're essentially taking out
a defensive lineman, you're essentially taking out a linebacker, and

(22:26):
you're bringing in the extra defensive back. So it is
on paper, supposed to create confusion. It's an adaptable defense,
so you can change your alignment snap the snap. Most
offenses rely on safety reads one high, two high. There
are times the Bearcats will have three safeties in the game,

(22:50):
so it's an easy defense to drop eight in the
coverage and at the same time bring six or more
guys on a pressure. It makes it very hard for
a quarterback to distinguish what coverage is happening.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
On the back end.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
Players can line up in different positions, they can shift
before the snap. It's very hard for an opposing offense.
It creates a lot of flexibility in dropping into coverage
and in blitzing, say well, why don't more teams do it?

Speaker 4 (23:26):
Well?

Speaker 3 (23:26):
There are drawbacks to the three three five, and some
of those drawbacks are the reason that this team has
given up points in a couple different games. Jalen Daniels
of Kansas is a mobile quarterback that creates issues for

(23:47):
a team. Jackson at Oklahoma State mobile quarterback creates issues.
The drawbacks to the three to three five vulnerability against
the run and mobile quarterback. Why because the longer the
quarterback can move around, and he can move around a
long time because sometimes you're only rushing three, the easier

(24:08):
it is to start to pick apart that defense. My
biggest question with the three three five It is a
player dependent defense.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
So you need two things. You need.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
Above average to elite pass rushers, and you better have
a dude at nose tackle because if you're running the
ball five offensive linemen three defensive linemen, if you don't
have someone up the middle, well, it's a lot easier
for those linemen to get to the second level and

(24:46):
all of a sudden you're getting gashed on the ground.
If you don't have a traditional above average pass rusher,
quarterbacks going to be able to sit back there for
a long time. And finally, tackling is the emphasis. You
just got less big dudes on the field. You got
dbs and linebackers that need to make the tackles. So

(25:09):
on paper, Austin, when I have Dante Corleone on paper,
three three five is perfect, right because Dante Corleone takes two,
sometimes even three blockers on every play. What's the issue
about the Bearcats right now? Dante Corleone's playing less than
forty percent of the snaps. So when teams see Corleone out,

(25:31):
I genuinely think teams have two offensive game plans when
they come in to play the Bearcats. I think there's
a Dante Corleone game plan, and I think there's an
everybody else game plan. And what we've seen is when
everybody else comes into the game, teams run the ball
in between the tackles and they have a lot of
success doing it. They don't have an elite pass rusher.

(25:52):
In my opinion. Now they're tackling at times has been better,
But the drawback of the three three five is not
have that shutdown guy in the middle. If it's not
Dante Corleone, it's a lot of single blocks and it's
a lot of the guards getting up to the linebacker level,
which creates problems that I think is, now, if you're

(26:13):
the Bearcats, what you have to fight with if you're
Tysonvite Like, if you can't if you can't play Dante
Corleone for seventy percent of the snaps, are you willing
when he's not in the game to go to more
of a traditional four man front, which protects you against
the run a little bit better. And I don't know

(26:35):
what that'll be on Saturday, Austin, because what did we
just hear from Scott Souderfield yesterday about Baylor number one
passing attack in the country. So it might be better
tell Baylor, who is not a traditional ground and pound team. Hey,
if you want to come compete in this game, we're
gonna drop eight, Ben, but don't break right, Ben, but
don't break defense. If you want to run the ball

(26:58):
and you want to go on these long drives, be
my guest, but you're not gonna throw it on us.
Baylor as a team on the season runs it for
one hundred and forty yards per game while throwing it
for three forty four, So you might not see those
changes now, But I think going forward, you're going to

(27:19):
have to decide, if you're the Bearcats, how you want
to approach a team when Dante Corleone's not in the game.
The last thing it hurts you with Austin if you
were let me ask you, if Austin, if you're an
opposing team and you look at the Bearcat offense, who said,
okay man, they got dual threat running backs, they got

(27:39):
an NFL tight end, they got a lot of skill
on the outside, and they got a quarterback playing at
a very high level. What would be one of your
ideas to win a game against that offense?

Speaker 2 (27:49):
Keep the offense off the field. Keep the offense off
the field.

Speaker 3 (27:54):
There have been so many times this year where teams
have won on fifteen play, nineteen play, twelve play, eight
minute drives, nine minute drives. Why is that when you
play this bend but don't break style, teams are getting
five and six yards on a play. They're not getting
home runs because you're defending against the home run. But
these six yard plays and seven yard plays and eight

(28:15):
yard plays, they just create second, manageable, third and manageable
picking up a first down and just eating up clock.
It's a balance right now, and there, to me is
a little concern when you continue to give up those
long drives, because it pushes an offense at times to

(28:36):
do things they're not characteristically doing. I've talked about this before,
and I've equated it to the col Rain days in
their prime dominant Goodman, Terrell Bird, mister Simpson, Andre Revels,
all those guys when Cole Rain was one of the
best teams in the nation. They were so dominant on
offense and they ran that triple option. That your possessions
on offense are limited, and so if teams are just

(28:58):
eating up clock and en plus play drives against UC Austin,
it's only fair at one point for an offense and
for a quarterback to start pressing and thinking, man, how
many drives do we have left? And for the Bearcats
it's been good because they've been up in a lot
of these games. What happens if you're down seven or
ten points and you're giving up a thirteen play drive, Now,

(29:21):
what's that? That offense? What soresby start to think, Ah,
I gotta go make a play. And that's when you're
susceptible to the turnovers and the negative plays on an offense.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
Does that answer the three to three five? That answers
it to me?

Speaker 3 (29:34):
All right, let's take some phone calls when we get back.
Five one, three, seven, four, nine, fifteen thirty sincety three
to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
You've been listening to Football in the NATI on ESPN
fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
This is what it sets say.

Speaker 8 (30:05):
I like to thank everybody, because you guys are pretty good.

Speaker 9 (30:08):
And uh, I'd just like to say, I don't give
us a chance.

Speaker 10 (30:11):
We kicked the act far straight.

Speaker 8 (30:13):
That's all I gotta say.

Speaker 11 (30:15):
And all I think, all right, I we cover our
mouths shut.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
We just went out there and proved it on the field.

Speaker 7 (30:21):
They could talk all they.

Speaker 11 (30:22):
Want, but they're shit home all winter, and they know
they don't got nothing because we got the ring, we
got the money, we got everything.

Speaker 12 (30:29):
That go.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
Chris Sabotne on this date, nineteen ninety at Mountain Square,
he took the mic from Joe Nuxall we got the rings,
we got the money, we got everything. We kicked their
ass in four straight. As the Reds celebrated the nineteen
ninety World Series championship tone. That's our call of the day.

(30:55):
That is fantastic. It's brought to you by our friends
at wind Shoulders. Don't take our word for it, just
go taste. Why win Shoulders is the best.

Speaker 3 (31:03):
Four different phenomenal flavors that pair well with any get
together over the holidays that you're having, or one for
each game, one for each game of the sweep. That
is thanks to our friends that win Shoulders.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
At Baseball Man.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
So open up the phone lines for the first time today.
Let's start with David, who's calling in? Hello David, Well, you.

Speaker 13 (31:26):
Know that Sabo speech probably should be up there more
with the you don't live in Cleveland fantastic.

Speaker 4 (31:33):
I mean, that is just a classic.

Speaker 13 (31:35):
Hey, it pains me to say this, Tony. It is
good to hear your voice still as Zager guy, of course,
but it's better than Chad Brendle. So I'll say.

Speaker 7 (31:45):
It's good to hear your voice.

Speaker 2 (31:47):
Thank you.

Speaker 13 (31:48):
I was I was holding out for the Paul Frishner show,
but hey, we'll run with this. You know, it's good
to have some friction in this.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
Thank you, Thank you.

Speaker 5 (32:00):
David.

Speaker 13 (32:00):
Hey, I did want to respond because it's always it's
one of those common questions about what is Xavier fans
think any year, but especially this year. And it's funny
because this year, unlike so many others, there is very
little talk about Xavier basketball. And Number one, I think
it's because we don't really know this coach. There's not
a lot. I couldn't even tell you, Yes, when we

(32:23):
had our exhibition game, I wasn't sure if he was
going to wear a suit like his father or the
pullovers like.

Speaker 4 (32:28):
You know so many of the other coaches.

Speaker 13 (32:30):
I didn't know a single one of the guys for
the most part, that suited up for that team, And
so it's hard to kind of even talk about, let
alone have an opinion about this team so far. That
combined with the fact that, honestly, if you talk to
a Xavier person right now, the top two topics are
going to be why don't we have anybody enrolling at Xavier?

(32:51):
And why are we forcing all these kids to have
three years housing when they come on campus. Now, that
seems to be the one thing everybody in Xavier Land
wants to talk about. Basketball has become like number three topic,
And I don't think until we actually start to actually
count the games where you get to hear what we
truly believe, we think about this team.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
I think that's one of the hard things about today's
college basketball though, Like for you see so many new faces.
Now they did get guys to come back, but the
transfers do make it hard. But I think you know,
relatively right now, you see there's an expectation it's it's
tournament or bust. So even without knowing exactly the coach
or exactly what the roster looks like, does does there

(33:31):
start a conversation among Xavier fans of this is this
is the minimum, this is this is where this has
to start.

Speaker 13 (33:40):
I haven't had anybody tell me this is like where
I expect them to be. It's almost to the feeling
of we'll take what we get. But I'll be honest
with you, I think this is a team that to
stay i'll say relevant. I don't think they would ever
be irrelevant. But you know, this team needs to still finish.

Speaker 5 (33:56):
Five hundred overall.

Speaker 13 (33:58):
Okay, honestly the Big East too. They should not be
you know, the Georgetown's and the Butlers, and there's teams
that they should still be beating. In my opinion, that
all said too, that's all based off of you know,
the Xavier I'll say, or you know, we know what
Xavier basketball is about. But this is such a new
thing short of the Sintos. Now that's the only one consistent.

Speaker 7 (34:20):
Thing we've got.

Speaker 13 (34:22):
And you hope that the Cintas Center still continues to,
you know, give that team those extra points that they
don't usually get on the road to help them, you know,
stay relevant. I saw I think there's a there's a
website out there that kind of guesstimates their record for
the year, and I think I saw that they were
going to finish like eighteen and sixteen and eight and

(34:44):
eight in the Big East or nine to nine of
the Big East or something like that. They literally had
them five hundred across the board in both regular season
and conference. I guess I'm good with that. You know,
just give me a shift, get us in the Big
East and see what happens. And I mean, I don't
think any of us are sitting there going it's NCAA
or bust. I just hope we do. I just hope
this team doesn't come out, you know and finish two

(35:06):
and sixteen in conference, right, and honestly, you know, something
like that, especially with the way that the environment is,
that can set a program back. So sure there's hoping
that that doesn't happen. Hey, I do want to say Tony,
because I do believe that. I think it's awesome that
you're getting put into the Hall of Fame. It's well deserved.
I'm a I'm a fan of UC football because I
don't have a dog in the fight at Xavier. I'm

(35:27):
always rooting for UC football to do well, and I
think it's really cool that you're one.

Speaker 4 (35:32):
Of the good ones to go inside the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 13 (35:34):
So congratulations on that, and don't take my don't take
my talk back seriously later today.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
David, thank you man. Have a great DAGs, David, be good, sir.

Speaker 13 (35:42):
Stick here.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
Now that's what good, clean rivalry fun is all about.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
Let's let's take that, and let's take a call from
another UC Bearcat football fan that I know and maybe
perhaps someone that that does have his pulse on all
things Xavier as the voice of the common Xavier fan
and yes, a you see football fan as well.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
Wow, voice, what's going on?

Speaker 14 (36:04):
You know?

Speaker 15 (36:04):
I am actually going to the game on Saturday, but
I can't say that I'm an actual huge fan. You
weren't there since the last past.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
You were't a Hall of Fame shirt.

Speaker 16 (36:15):
I am.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
I know you good?

Speaker 17 (36:17):
Not right because only because.

Speaker 9 (36:19):
Your mom bought it for me, That's.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
Honestly.

Speaker 7 (36:23):
Hey, I told your dad.

Speaker 15 (36:25):
Last week that the voice was no longer because I
was a little bit mad, mad about the whole situation.
But I guess, uh, we'll see. I can hold a grudge,
as Austin can.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
All well know, I honestly, David just said, five hundred
what what are the expectations for this Savior team?

Speaker 15 (36:44):
You know, they weren't high to begin with, but then
when you go out and lose to Murray State at home,
I don't I don't think they've gotten any better. I
didn't go down on Saturday. But you know what's funny
is I was listening to some of the game with
Joe and Byron, and when a guy would score and
they'd say their name, I was like, was that us
or them? I don't even know if we scored or
they scored?

Speaker 4 (37:04):
Yeah, because I don't know.

Speaker 13 (37:05):
Anybody on the team.

Speaker 5 (37:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (37:06):
So I think Patino's got a free pass this year.
I mean, how can you hold him accountable for anything.
They had the last minute transfer portal guys that are
averaging two points a game for the most part last year.
So I don't think it's high at all. But I,
like Dave said, I don't want him to go to
in eighteen in the Big East either.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
How long?

Speaker 3 (37:25):
How long would be the I don't want to say
how long would be the least? How How long would
would that honeymoon phase end? I mean, is it that
he gets a year, get your guys in here. In
the next year, it's back to competing in the Big East.

Speaker 15 (37:37):
I think that's got to be pretty much what it is. Yeah,
I mean, I think he's got to pre pass this year.
But if they go out two years in a row
and are completely blown away, then no, and then they
got to look differently. But I think he's a good coach,
so I don't I got hopes there. But if you
guys were talking about the Louisville guy that came from
the te league, I've never cared less about college sports
than I do right now, And I don't know that

(37:59):
it'll ever turn back differently. It's just going in a
direction that's not fun, honestly.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
Yeah, well yeah, voice great to hear your voice, and
I look forward to seeing that red and black on
on Saturday.

Speaker 4 (38:12):
Yep, we'll see thee.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
Glad to hear you. That's the voice. I love it now.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
Listen, I would have thought it a cold day and
you know where when the voice would have said, hey,
five hundred will be okay.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
That's crazy, but it is like I get completely late
in the window.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Obviously, not a lot of ways to fill out a
roster based on what Sean Miller did. It's tough, but
there are there are vastly different expectations in this city
right now. The expectations in Clifton, I don't even think
are getting to the tournament. You got to get in
and win a game. I legitimately think west Miller has
to win a game in the tournament this year.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
Yeah, I mean obviously. And then across the river at Nku,
you thinking Sweet sixteen, death taxes, Horn and March. I
don't think. In Kate, I'm trying to think who the
favorite is in the horizon. It's probably Youngstown State, it
won't matter. It might be Youngstown State preseason. Yeah, come February,
March time in the Norse. Last time I saw or

(39:12):
I actually did. I pulled a Tony Pike last week
and I started looking at Joe Lenardi. Wow, bracketologyology, let's go,
And the first thing I saw was he had Youngstown
State as a fifteen. I said, well, this guy didn't
know what he's talking about.

Speaker 3 (39:26):
Last time I looked at bracketology, I believe Yeah, the
Bearcats is a nine. Well, something's changing now because when
I looked at it again, it was a nine. The
latest bracketology you see last by Oh, so they are
trending to the bubble.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
What happens when you beat but they do you blow
that second athlete against Michigan, they lost Big Slime, Big slime,
that's big Lime is out, so that ain't sliming around.

Speaker 3 (39:52):
No mo makes things a little bit interesting. By the way,
Good news Houston preseason top overall seeds opens up big
twelve play with.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
Well make a statement there opportunity to make a statement.

Speaker 3 (40:04):
We are going to finish up our number one when
we return. Zach Taylor will speak at one o'clock. Will
air that all coming up next on this the Home
of the Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 11 (40:14):
You see KWISE Cincinnati but Dave Lapham's enshrinement into the
Bengals Ring of Honor.

Speaker 2 (40:19):
We pay tribute to the Life of lap presented.

Speaker 18 (40:22):
By Skyline Feeling good against Skyline Time.

Speaker 5 (40:25):
Now here's Dan and d Lack.

Speaker 19 (40:28):
You not only played all five offensive line positions during
your career, you did it in the same game twice.

Speaker 7 (40:35):
That's mind boggling to me.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
How did you know every assignment?

Speaker 5 (40:40):
Yeah, it was interesting.

Speaker 20 (40:41):
I prided myself on, even in high school and college,
kind of understanding exactly what everybody was doing on the
field instead of just tunnel vision on my particular play.
So knowing what's going on around you, knowing what from
an environmental standpoint, you know, well, what is happening around you,
and not having that tunnel vision like a just and
understanding what all of your teammates are doing and why

(41:03):
they're doing and how they're doing it.

Speaker 5 (41:05):
And that allowed me to play any place.

Speaker 8 (41:07):
For more on the Life of lap keep it here
on ESPN.

Speaker 11 (41:11):
Fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 2 (41:16):
Yeah, welcome back.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
Sinzy three to sixty ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Thanks to Skyline Chili, thank you for listening in always
appreciative of that. We'll get to your talkbacks nour number
two right after we hear from Zach Taylor, who's going
to speak to the media in just a few moments.
Austin question. Answer, Is DJ Turner the best player on
the Bengals defense? Yes he is, Yes he is right now.

Speaker 5 (41:42):
Yes he is.

Speaker 2 (41:43):
I think so too. That's because Trey Henderson's hurt and
banged up, not one hundred percent. So I'm going to
say because DJ Turner apparently is one hundred percent and
the way he's playing.

Speaker 3 (41:54):
Kirk clk Street said on Thursday Night Football that if
you watch the tape, he's playing as well as any
corner in the game.

Speaker 2 (42:01):
Do you want some DJ Turner stats. He's first enforced incompletions,
He's first enforced incompletion percentage. He's first in past breakups.
He's first in interceptions. He's third in passer rating against.
He's third in reception percentage allowed. Come on, among all

(42:22):
NFL quarterbacks, that's where DJ Turner ranks.

Speaker 5 (42:25):
Come on.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
So, Kirk kurve Street's correct, he's playing like CB one,
not just on the team you said, CBT, but in
the National Football League CTV. That guy stinks. He's not good.
He's not very good.

Speaker 3 (42:35):
We'll talk about cam Taylor Britt later on in the
show because he came up. Wonder how that message was
received in a conversation as as well. We got time
here before we get to Zach Taylor. We'll take one
more call to finish up the hour.

Speaker 2 (42:47):
What's up?

Speaker 4 (42:47):
John?

Speaker 2 (42:49):
Good?

Speaker 7 (42:49):
Afternoon follows How are you good?

Speaker 5 (42:51):
How are you?

Speaker 7 (42:52):
We're hanging in there. That Marshall story is wild.

Speaker 21 (42:55):
You know, as a sixty two year old Italian American
in Boston, I'd like to pay cash, so there's no
paper trail at all. So once I come to Cincinnati
to visit you guys, I'm gonna make sure I bring
the debit card and also a credit card so I
don't get into that predicament that that was tough. The
only suggestion I would make Tony is, I know, obviously
the receipts are thrown away, and I'm one hundred percent

(43:15):
with you on that one.

Speaker 7 (43:16):
Did you still have the bag that the stuff came in?

Speaker 2 (43:19):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (43:20):
Okay. Did you bring the jacket in the bag?

Speaker 19 (43:23):
No?

Speaker 3 (43:23):
Because I thought I thought then it could look like
I was trying to conceal or hide something. I walked
in just that way. I thought in my mind, I
was like, they could go to the tape and see
that I walk in with this. For for whatever reason,
I thought Marshalls has like the all twenty two like
just available to go check the tape at any point,
because I told them to check the tape and I
wanted to make them available that I if you need

(43:44):
to check the tape and watch me walk in with
this thing.

Speaker 21 (43:47):
Maybe they have a small scouting staff like the Bengals,
and they just don't have the opportunities.

Speaker 2 (43:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (43:52):
There, the tapes are erased. Every tapes are erased every
thirty minutes.

Speaker 7 (43:56):
This is this one Beta Max.

Speaker 4 (43:57):
They still use.

Speaker 21 (44:00):
The suggestion for Sunday is Joe Flacco, just like you
know Dad on Thanksgiving.

Speaker 7 (44:04):
He could be the designated quarterback for both teams. Just
call it a win for the Bengals. Yeah, Joe could
play for both teams.

Speaker 21 (44:11):
He's had a lot of bullets left in that arm,
and he did play for the Jets, so that could
be suggested. And the other thing is, yeah, why not
just have a designated quarterback like the big old guys too.
I think this game scares me just a little bit
because the Jets the last two weeks have held Denver
to thirteen points and Carolina the thirteen points. And the defense, yeah,
playing better, and they can run the football with Brees ball,

(44:33):
and we know what Cincinnati's issues have been with stopping
the run, so kind of a little bit scary.

Speaker 3 (44:39):
They can run the ball, and I know they're ower
and seven. I know personally Sauce Gardner is going to
look forward to an opportunity to go against Jamar Chase.
That's a good secondary. Still, they still got Quentin Williams
you have to deal with there are talented players on
the roster. When you start ozhing seven, things just kind
of start the snowball. But like any other team in
any other sport, if you let a team that's not

(45:01):
on your same level or struggling hang around, they start
to believe and then their confidence grows. And when a
team starts playing with that confidence when they're not good,
that can be where you get a little dangerous.

Speaker 21 (45:13):
Off the Jetsy another quarterback that can look at Boomer size,
and he's gonna be in town too. So there's a
lot of options for Sunday right.

Speaker 2 (45:19):
Even for the being taken care of as he's being
brought into town.

Speaker 21 (45:23):
Yeah that's another wild story, isn't it.

Speaker 5 (45:25):
Man.

Speaker 21 (45:25):
That's that's part for the course. Finally, I just want
to mention something about Russell Wilson. Good for him clapping
back as I think the most or the least likable
guy in the NFL. Sean Payton, I root against the
Denver Broncos, probably the only team I root against because
of him.

Speaker 7 (45:38):
He's such a I don't want to swear, Yeah, be.

Speaker 2 (45:41):
Careful, don't make me use the dump button.

Speaker 5 (45:43):
John.

Speaker 7 (45:44):
I won't.

Speaker 15 (45:44):
I know.

Speaker 21 (45:45):
I've been in the business too long. I trade myself
not to swear on radio, so I will not swear
on radio. But I do not like that guy.

Speaker 7 (45:53):
Here's the thing.

Speaker 21 (45:54):
You look at Sean Payton and Mike McCarthy's resume, they're identical,
each one of the They had the same winning percentage,
same amount of time in the playoffs.

Speaker 7 (46:03):
Mike McCarthy had.

Speaker 21 (46:04):
Three straight twelve one seasons in Dallas, and yet everybody
looks at Sean Payton like he invented the sport, and
that Mike McCarthy is Fred Flintstone. You know, it's just
a they Yep, somehow have the same resume, and it's
just a lot of its perception. And I remember against
Denver all the time, mostly because of Sean Payton. Even
the year after Atlanta blew the twenty eighth to three
Super Bowl against the Patriots, he was having runs with
Matt Ryan, one of the classiest.

Speaker 7 (46:25):
Guys in the league.

Speaker 21 (46:26):
When Matt Ryan ran out of bounce kind of you know,
kind of dissing him about losing the lead in the
Super Bowl. It's like, he's just someone I can't root for.

Speaker 3 (46:33):
I'm with you, John, thanks for the call, man, Appreciate
you all right, fellas have a good one, all right.
One other quick quarterback note, Austin Jade Daniels is not
going to play this week.

Speaker 2 (46:43):
He is officially out. Marcus Mariota is in against the
Kansas City Chiefs. Marcus Mariota has won a playoff game
at Arrowhead Stadium.

Speaker 3 (46:52):
Zach Taylor, He's won a playoff game in Arrowhead. Yeah,
He's next. On ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station. Thanks
to Skyline Chile.

Speaker 22 (47:01):
Soil Ucky Cincinnati, make us the number one pre set

improved iHeartRadio app. Free never sounded so good. ESPN fifteen thirty.

(47:51):
speaking to members of the media. He's starting with an
update on Trey Hendrickson.

Speaker 23 (47:56):
Yeah, we'll just see. We'll take it day to day
right now. We'll see if anything be limited anybody else
expect some guys might just be limited. We'll just see
as we go.

Speaker 5 (48:08):
What.

Speaker 24 (48:09):
Yes, that's product has been for years.

Speaker 23 (48:11):
What makes well they've they've invested there, you know, so
you've got some high draft picks. Quentin Williams is I mean,
he's he's the first one that jumps out at you.
I've always liked Harrys and Phillips. Their edge guys do
a great job coming off the edge as well. So
just starting with that front four is a problem and
they get a lot out of them. They're very disruptive.

(48:32):
Their defense is played played really well. I mean you
just watch especially this last two weeks. They'd really limited
these offenses in terms of points on the board and
make things difficult for you. So they've got a lot
of talent behind those guys as well. But I just
I think they've done a nice job limiting teams starting
with their front.

Speaker 25 (48:49):
Are they equally effective against the past, and yeah, there are.

Speaker 23 (48:53):
Everything is difficult. Everything is difficult if you give a chance,
they'll be very disruptive in the pocket, affect your passing
game could be very mindful if how you attack them.
Had you known before it was on the dance, No,
I've always known who he is, you know, and m
guy coach there, I coached there.

Speaker 24 (49:13):
I mean, but but no, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (49:18):
What's the difference or what how much of a difference
does it make if it's justin fields.

Speaker 23 (49:21):
Versus they're both talented players capable of in their team
put them both a lot with different teams, and so
again they're they're both challenging, and whoever's out there is
out there, and we've got to be ready for both.

Speaker 26 (49:35):
Yeah, they're not announcing the starter for at his advantages.

Speaker 27 (49:38):
Does it make a big difference if best starters on Wednesday?

Speaker 23 (49:42):
No, I think you gotta be ready for both of them.

Speaker 26 (49:45):
Are you able to announce your starting guards for this week?

Speaker 24 (49:49):
I won't do that quite yet.

Speaker 26 (49:50):
In general, though, do you see that being week the
week going forward or would you like to really settle in.

Speaker 23 (49:55):
I'd like to settle in, but but again, I think
we've got guys that are capable. So I like where
we're at because I think we got young guys that
are ascending. I think we've got veterans that absolutely can
get in there and get the job done. So I
feel really comfortable with where we're at there.

Speaker 26 (50:11):
Jalen Rivers in his movie Guard. Obviously, he started off
as a tackle in his movie Guard.

Speaker 23 (50:16):
I mean he played both in college and so again
great film as a guard, and so we like him
in there as a past protector. I think he's approving
in the run game as well. So really smart guy,
very mature for rookie. I don't want to look at
him that way. I guess just the way he conducts
himself and seems very mature, seems like an experienced player.

(50:38):
And so again he's just continuing to get better than that.

Speaker 4 (50:40):
The balance.

Speaker 2 (50:42):
Yeah, guy's developing those two guards.

Speaker 24 (50:45):
We need to win something.

Speaker 23 (50:46):
It hasn't been well, you're just asking a question for
this week, but it's kind of taking care of itself
in terms of the injuries so far.

Speaker 2 (50:52):
Build a website you love with Wiggs. Wow, that's what
happens when you stream it off of YouTube.

Speaker 24 (51:00):
Calling for the Jets.

Speaker 23 (51:01):
But whoever's not starting is still in there as a
guard getting work, getting physical work. Whenever we've got a
Scout team card, we're trying our best to call it
as we would in our terminology, and so they can
work the techniques and so you still get to assess
a player. And whether it's a young guy taking the
Scout team work, he's still getting reps and you're investing
getting better. And if it's a veteran player, focus on

(51:22):
staying sharp for when your numbers called. So there's even
though they're not the starter and getting the starter reps
they're still getting plenty of work on the scout team.

Speaker 15 (51:29):
Is following up on that.

Speaker 28 (51:31):
Is it hard to fight the urge whether at you
see the sample size is what you got from maybe
your non starter on opening day, like last week, compared
to what you've seen over a course of five weeks.

Speaker 23 (51:42):
I think those are just always decisions we have to make,
and so you can talk about any position and how
we're going to handle it differently. I think we're in
a good spot. So again, it's not something I'm stressed about.
I think we have really good options and it'll take
shape as that we goes.

Speaker 24 (51:57):
Long Do you take the long term yours?

Speaker 23 (52:01):
Just you guys try to find an answer on who started.
We're just again whatever gives us the best chance to win.

Speaker 29 (52:07):
Now that you've had Joe Flapfa here for a couple
of weeks or so, maybe a couple more meetings, a
couple more film sessions, what do you notice about just
how he goes about that is themeanor how interactive he
is during those sessions?

Speaker 23 (52:18):
Consistent, very consistent, never overwhelmed. You know, it's a lot
of information being thrown at you, all things that he's
been exposed to over the course of his career, maybe
just called differently, maybe just operated differently. So it's just
getting used to how we do it. But again, you
never you never, You can never tell if it's something
he's heard or hasn't heard. His his demeanor is always
the same, which I appreciate because there's no wait, what

(52:41):
is that, There's no panic or anything.

Speaker 24 (52:42):
He's he's solving the problem. He gets in the huddle.

Speaker 23 (52:45):
He calls to play with confidence when he's in the huddle,
which is critical for the other ten guys to hear
have that confidence slove on your quarterback. And again it's
just impressed with with how quickly he spicked it all up.
And again it always looks effortless.

Speaker 24 (53:00):
I know it's not.

Speaker 23 (53:00):
I know he's putting in a lot of work, but
that's the feel that it comes off to everybody, and
that's that's a positive.

Speaker 2 (53:05):
Thing for us.

Speaker 29 (53:06):
Point Yet where he's saying here's what I'm seeing, here's
what I think, let's try this, or is it more
just kind of taking the information and trying to work
as well.

Speaker 23 (53:13):
Sometimes that happens more as the week goes. You know,
early on you're giving them the plan and then as
the week goes and you've repped it and you've watched
more tape. That's where more of the interactions come from.
You're watching post practice tape after practice, and those guys
will have ideas coming out of the quterback room, and
so those are those are things that evolve over the
course of the week.

Speaker 19 (53:32):
After the game, you spoke about the need to enunciate
better and joked about your Oklahoma accent might be giving
him trouble. Did you change anything, did you speak more
slowly or anything?

Speaker 23 (53:44):
No, I just now now as the game ended, I
know now what was causing issues. What words sounded similar
during the game. It's hard to articulate what what is?
What is it because you're not he's on the field.
I'm on the sulne. So now that we know that
we don't have to change how we operate, we can
just focus in on all right, here's the eight plays
we have out of that formation, and so when you

(54:05):
hear another part of it, it'll ring a bell that
or I can cheat if I'm saying a Z word,
I can Hey, this one starts with a Z. I've
done that my fn X. You know those are two receivers.
That's happened over the course of my entire life. If
you're calling F stick or X stick quarterback, anybody in
this room maybe couldn't hear what I just said, which one,
and so you've always had to say, hey, X like triple.

Speaker 24 (54:25):
X or F is in front.

Speaker 23 (54:26):
You know, you would be shocked at how how sometimes
you have to do that just to make sure everybody
clearly hears what you're saying, and the receivers in the
huddle hear that as well.

Speaker 24 (54:34):
And this is no different than that, giure.

Speaker 26 (54:36):
The biggest confidence beyond we'll be able to continue the
office success you pad them the last say six chords or.

Speaker 23 (54:41):
So well, I think you know, with the receivers we have,
when we when we do a great job into protection
which our guys have had and allows us to attack
you know, down the field and get our guys to
ball in space that's critical, and then just continue to
build on the run game.

Speaker 24 (54:53):
You know, that's we.

Speaker 23 (54:54):
Can see the pressure that takes off of everything when
you're able to establish a ground game. And so I
don't think that's rocket science for anybody that that those
are great things to have, but when you can consistently
do it and build momentum on that, then then you've
got a chance to be really successful.

Speaker 29 (55:08):
Mentioned you wanted to show the film of Jamar blocking
downfield to your guys.

Speaker 4 (55:14):
I forget that was.

Speaker 7 (55:18):
How did they respond to that?

Speaker 24 (55:19):
What was the reaction like in the room.

Speaker 23 (55:20):
It's not a it's not an answer question the answer session,
you know, it's just me showing and and there's not
always a lot of verbal feedback that we get. So
I know, I just I just want to show our
great players doing the little things for everybody else to see.
I think we've got a lot of young talented players
that over time we'll figure better understand. Hey, here's here's

(55:44):
the little things that are getting someone like jam to
that level and to that level. And I just so
I think the more we can show that, the better.

Speaker 15 (55:52):
How critical is the stress go into the buy this
whole chunk of games to.

Speaker 2 (55:57):
Pittsburgh game, going.

Speaker 23 (55:58):
Into which just this game is really all that I
care about. You know, we'll we'll focus on whatever is
after that after that. But right now, being a la
Hanl is just a little bit of success. We haven't
had a lot of success, just a little bit. I've
seen how we've handled the adversity. When things go bad,
it's guys have responded the right way, found a way
to get a big win. Okay, now you put that

(56:19):
one behind and you keep keep trying to improve. It's
we we have not come close to reaching our potential
as a team yet, and so that's all important is
guys continue to improve, and so we play our best
game against the Jets, and then whatever comes at us
after that, we can focus on that.

Speaker 2 (56:32):
Whenever we ask you about Cam Taylor brid you use
the word consistency.

Speaker 24 (56:37):
That's the most important with him.

Speaker 2 (56:38):
What does consistency look like for him?

Speaker 23 (56:40):
Well, just from snap to snap, you know, consistency in
all areas. I won't get specific with it. But he's
a guy a pool for I want him to do well.
I want him to have the opportunity. I want him
take advantage of the opportunity. We've seen what it looks like
when it's really good, and I think he's focused on
on regaining that.

Speaker 2 (56:56):
You still believe he can help this team.

Speaker 24 (56:58):
I do absolutely.

Speaker 19 (57:00):
How happy or how would you characterize this at it his.

Speaker 23 (57:03):
That it has been good, you know, and again he
understands we're looking for exactly and we'll just we'll look
to see that consistency show up, but I trust that
I can.

Speaker 18 (57:15):
It seems like year to year, early in the season,
the run game doesn't have a lot of carry over
the previous year. It seems like you're always having to
kind of reinvent that a little bit each year in
different ways.

Speaker 5 (57:27):
Why is that?

Speaker 18 (57:27):
Do you think that maybe it's not that, No, like
it changes year to year where you have to Is
it just different personnel or different guys.

Speaker 24 (57:35):
I wouldn't.

Speaker 23 (57:36):
I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. The truth with you,
I think the bulk of what we've done is carryover.
Maybe it's window dressed a little bit differently. It's just
more game plan week to week stuff. There's always things
as you evolve with your align your backs and just
kind of what you're doing formationally that Okay, now we
need to focus on this element of the run game
that can help us.

Speaker 24 (57:56):
So you add that and you focus on that.

Speaker 23 (57:58):
But overall, I think if you looked at the call
sheet one year ago today and the call sheet today,
you're going to see very very similar stuff.

Speaker 30 (58:05):
One of the biggest challenges this year, as you guys
have tried to dig out of this about the thing
to kid going would have been the biggest differences and
challenges that you felt like over the last month that
you've mentioned away.

Speaker 23 (58:16):
Well, I think again it's you guys probably tired of
me saying this, But playing with a lead helps the
run game so much, helps.

Speaker 24 (58:24):
You stick with it, be consistent with it.

Speaker 23 (58:28):
This was the first game in a long time where
we have had the opportunity to do that as a team,
and so again having a lead and feeling like every
possession is not life or death, to stay in this
game and be able to just stick with some runs,
call a run on second ten and not feel like,
right if we're in a third and eight, you know
we got an issue here. So I think just being

(58:50):
able to as a team hang in that game and
have a lead allowed us to keep sticking with that
stuff and give us confidence in that game. And that's
just the difference in that game as opposed to the
previous four where we didn't have enough of that.

Speaker 26 (59:01):
Even felt like early in the season like Chase Brown
would turned like a zero yard run into a two
yard run and then last week a five yard or
into like a thirty yarder. What do you thought of
just disability to break tackles this season.

Speaker 23 (59:14):
He's always had that ability to play through contact, to
gain yards after contact, in space, to span off of people,
and so I've always seen that element to him, and
I think we got to see a lot more of
it because we got him in more space last week.

Speaker 24 (59:29):
What have your conversation has been like with Al? I've
out tact better.

Speaker 23 (59:34):
Well, there's not much I need to say about that.
I think that's that's they take that to heart, and
Al's dine a great job focusing on that, emphasizing it.
It's not something we've just let fall by the wayside.
It's it's always been a focus for us, and it's
unfortunate what shows up in the games because it's not
where preach, it's not where we rep So he does
a great job of taking the bull by them.

Speaker 24 (59:53):
Watch there.

Speaker 25 (59:53):
Were you a little bit surprised though, given how much
focus there was on it, and even Al talked about this,
and some of the players focus on training company off season,
and you're at the point now where you're still looking.

Speaker 23 (01:00:06):
I expect to tackle while so I guess two point,
are you surprised when it doesn't happen?

Speaker 24 (01:00:11):
Anything can happen and we just got to be better
for it.

Speaker 31 (01:00:14):
Still feel good about the the linebacker combination with Barrett.

Speaker 19 (01:00:19):
Ted was miked up for sound last week, and the
video compilation on the website's pretty amusing. Can you describe
his game persona?

Speaker 23 (01:00:32):
His game persona, it's good to start right there. Good
always high energy conversations.

Speaker 24 (01:00:42):
I think.

Speaker 23 (01:00:42):
I think if three words describe him high energy conversations.

Speaker 32 (01:00:48):
Tom.

Speaker 23 (01:00:48):
Anytime I go to him with something, it's a high
energy conversation in response, which is great.

Speaker 24 (01:00:53):
I like high energy.

Speaker 23 (01:00:55):
I don't want doll, don't want to be out here.
I want high energy. Let's get this fixed. Yeah, let's
do that.

Speaker 24 (01:01:00):
Let's stick with this, Ted Carris, high energy conversation.

Speaker 23 (01:01:05):
Really all in all phases of life, great quality to have.

Speaker 24 (01:01:11):
I love.

Speaker 23 (01:01:12):
High energy brings some juice, you know, and Ted brings
some juice, and so I appreciate that.

Speaker 27 (01:01:17):
Has that been one of the longerrated signings over the
years of the culture of that John wanted.

Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
To buildings that.

Speaker 23 (01:01:22):
Yeah, No, I think that's a good point. How many
extensions has he gotten here? One or two?

Speaker 24 (01:01:29):
Two?

Speaker 13 (01:01:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 23 (01:01:29):
Two, He's done a great job. I mean, it's it's
to have a center that cares so much about the
nuances of the position and helping lead the group in
conjunction with the quarterback. I think it's critical Ted Ted.
You know, his dad's a coach, he's the son of
a coach. He's he's invested, so he understands, you know,
bringing people along with him, getting the most out of people,

(01:01:51):
doing a great job with communication, solving problems, staying one
step ahead.

Speaker 24 (01:01:55):
Of the defense.

Speaker 23 (01:01:57):
And I think he's got a great rapport with with
Joe and everybody else who's played quarterback with us day.
They've got trust that he knows he's talking about it,
he's done, he's done the work leading up to a
Wednesday install meeting.

Speaker 24 (01:02:07):
He's already watched the tape. He knows. So I think
that that's I.

Speaker 23 (01:02:12):
Can't rate on a scale of signings who's best and
who's not, but certainly, God that we have you.

Speaker 33 (01:02:18):
Guys have had such a different schedule from Sunday to
Monday to Thursday to four thirty starts. How nice is
it just to have some one o'clocks moving forward knowing, Hey,
that's our schedule.

Speaker 23 (01:02:31):
Yeah, I guess you're right, I yeah, Yeah, that's that's
how it goes, and you know, you look at I'm
doing the schedule for the last half the season, and
we're gonna deal with more of that, you know, Thursday
games and Sunday night games and possible Saturday games.

Speaker 24 (01:02:45):
So you just deal with as it comes.

Speaker 23 (01:02:48):
Our guys are pretty used to whatever routine we throw
at them, whether it's a short week on a Thursday game,
whether it's an extra bonus day on a Monday after
Thursday or by or sometimes we'll get those six day
weeks post Monday night. So the guys generally respond really well,
and coaches understand the workflow. We've got what we've got
to get done, and trust that the work is going
to get done. Our guys will have a chance to

(01:03:08):
be are you.

Speaker 7 (01:03:09):
Getting closer and closer to that weak game?

Speaker 24 (01:03:13):
You know with the offense, defense everybody. I think the
beauty of it is we several ways to go, right.

Speaker 23 (01:03:19):
I think, you know, there's we won and I'm thankful
for that, but that doesn't mean that it's cleaning in
all three phases. And there's not a lot of things
that we can prove on and and that's a good
thing that we found a way to win a tight game.

Speaker 24 (01:03:33):
All three of our wins have been find a way
to win games. They haven't been.

Speaker 23 (01:03:37):
We race out and we were holding a fourteen point lead,
which I'd love to do at some point.

Speaker 24 (01:03:41):
But but there's also an.

Speaker 23 (01:03:43):
Element to it's good that we've we've had to find
ways to win, and we just got to continue to
build off of that. That's a good quality to have
that you've seen yourself do that at the end of
the game. Now we've got to focus on, you know,
building a lead early in the game, playing really solid
and putting teams to bed and winning by a wider margin.

Speaker 24 (01:04:00):
Go too.

Speaker 34 (01:04:02):
Been here for all the Ring of Honor games talk
about just what you appreciate about a franchise, recognizing players
and what they've given to the organization.

Speaker 23 (01:04:11):
I think it's important for our current players to see
the history, you know, so as they look up there,
and I look up there today and I see the name.
So I don't know when the names got added, but
today was the first time I noticed it.

Speaker 24 (01:04:21):
I don't know if I say that or not.

Speaker 35 (01:04:22):
I don't know.

Speaker 23 (01:04:23):
Maybe here's sire, I don't know, but I think it's
just cool to see. I love when I go into
other stadiums. I'm always that's what I do. I just
sit there in pre game more about someone looking around
and trying to remember any memories I have of those players.
And so I think it's special. This is such a
strong history dating back to the sixties here and all
the great players that have come here. And I've always

(01:04:44):
enjoyed hearing Mike Brown teld one off stories on different guys,
some of the Ring of Honor, some not. I love
that kind of stuff, and so I think it's really
cool to recognize our players. To see those names up
there forever, those those men, to those that are around,
to get a chance for their their kids and grandkids
to see them up there, I think that's spectacular for Lapp.

Speaker 5 (01:05:04):
Them over here.

Speaker 23 (01:05:05):
You know, it'll be really neat, you know, for his
whole family, Sarah, everybody to get up here and see
see it up there and never goes away.

Speaker 17 (01:05:12):
You know.

Speaker 23 (01:05:12):
It's it's like when you win a conference championship in college.
I always tell those guys that number stays up there forever.
Whatever year you wanted, that stays up there forever, and
every time you go back you get to see it
and hear in the Ring of honor. It's the same
for these guys that get a chance to see their
names up there and never goes away, and pretty pretty special,
pretty rare.

Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
You know.

Speaker 23 (01:05:30):
You think of all the players that play in this
league and have impacted every different city.

Speaker 24 (01:05:34):
To have your name up there is the best and
the best.

Speaker 23 (01:05:36):
That's the It's not the point one percent, it's the
point one percent, you know, all the guys that have
come through this building.

Speaker 24 (01:05:43):
So pretty neat Congressgator, thank you.

Speaker 3 (01:05:45):
Awesome way to finish that. Head is Zach Taylor speaking
to members of the media. Obviously, Dave Lapham will be
recognized as part of the Ring of Honor ceremony on
Sunday as well. A couple of the things that stood
out Austin day to day for Trey Hendrickson, if you
were to practice today would be on a limited basis.
And I'm going to start using the term high energy conversations.

(01:06:07):
I think we need more of those around here. That's
I'm gonna put that task on Keig and Nickoson when
he joins at two o'clock.

Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
Oh yeah, high energy conversation. That's never been an issue.

Speaker 3 (01:06:16):
With no and for listeners, high energy talkbacks, those are
things we're looking for. Yeah, high energy conversations. That's what
makes since he three sixty go your talkbacks come up
next ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 36 (01:06:31):
Now go and grab your phone and record a message.

Speaker 2 (01:06:35):
Just hit that microphone. Please keep it clean and dope
mean and those sprinkle sprinkle drip drip drip. It's a
despert talkbacks.

Speaker 36 (01:06:45):
It's such favorite party since E three sixty. So Austin, buddy,
play those talkbacks on your screen and please drive now
to sabotage it.

Speaker 2 (01:06:57):
Just so well done, man, I mean that's professional grade
right there. It's absolutely phenomenal. And what a way to
lead into your your talkbacks this afternoon. Yeah, thanks to
CINTI shirts. Trying to make sure they are all loaded
in correctly because there are a lot of them, all
boy here today and just making sure I got this correct.

(01:07:18):
Let's begin.

Speaker 5 (01:07:21):
To you.

Speaker 22 (01:07:26):
Last night, he freaking dooice bumps man.

Speaker 4 (01:07:30):
Alic love felt my.

Speaker 22 (01:07:31):
Game seven of the NBA Final last night.

Speaker 37 (01:07:33):
Of the game one.

Speaker 2 (01:07:38):
After it was where does he? Where is he at
away from? I know something about NBA on NBC and
that fired me up.

Speaker 38 (01:07:48):
Yeah, this is Gina and Tony. Welcome back, and I
really enjoyed all the talkbacks sharing all their love and
appreciation for you. And we're all grateful that you're back.
And you know, when something is taken from you and
you get it back, it's a lot sweeter the.

Speaker 2 (01:08:06):
Second time around.

Speaker 38 (01:08:07):
You and Naughtie, I tell you you are the heart
and iHeartRadio Love.

Speaker 2 (01:08:14):
We should put that on our profile page. That gives
me an idea.

Speaker 14 (01:08:17):
Man, Tony Austin, falling ain't easy. What a joy, what
a joy to have your back tone. I was really worried.

Speaker 5 (01:08:25):
Everybody.

Speaker 14 (01:08:26):
Everybody was asking me what was wrong today that dreadful
day when it happened, I.

Speaker 9 (01:08:29):
Said, well, my boy, big Tone got canned.

Speaker 14 (01:08:32):
And it was very relatable because I got canned earlier
this year, and then there was a mere mortal who
got canned just about a month ago. You know, in
this economy, you never you just never know. But one
thing's for sure. This jumper will never leave me. And
it won't and I'm and I'm working every day and
I'll see in May.

Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
Oh man, how you say that jumper will never leave you?
If it never never was there?

Speaker 9 (01:08:54):
What's up? Tony and Austin?

Speaker 31 (01:08:57):
I was just hitting you guys up because I was
reading through the sports news and saw.

Speaker 9 (01:09:00):
Louisville signed London Johnson.

Speaker 31 (01:09:04):
Yeah, twenty twenty six class and this gentleman has played.

Speaker 39 (01:09:08):
Three years in the G League.

Speaker 31 (01:09:10):
It looks like, uh, tom Izzo had a YouTube video
melting down about it, and I was just kind of
wondering what your thoughts were.

Speaker 2 (01:09:17):
Yeah, we gave those talks at the start of the show.

Speaker 5 (01:09:20):
Yeah, happy hunt everybody.

Speaker 4 (01:09:23):
Did I see it that right?

Speaker 5 (01:09:23):
Amarus?

Speaker 40 (01:09:24):
Men's give it zero sacks to Michael Parsons and TJ Watt.
That's what Jim said on X So that's kind of impressive.
Risener not being out there Sunday next to Obj.

Speaker 5 (01:09:35):
I think I got the mistake. Zach Taylor. Better put
him out there. They work well together for eight broke.

Speaker 40 (01:09:40):
Don't fix it and tell him you said you're getting
fitted on Friday for the big Hall of Fame ceremony.

Speaker 4 (01:09:44):
Congratulations again.

Speaker 41 (01:09:46):
By the way, I hope you're taking Meredith with you.
Let her pick the out it out. Okay, that's that
is not my decision. Did they give you like a
bust or anything? You get like a bronze bust to
your noggin?

Speaker 2 (01:09:56):
I don't think so. No, I don't believe so. Maybe
they do. By the way, we don't know the starting guards.
Zach Taylor won't tell us who the starting guards are. Noncommittal.

Speaker 9 (01:10:08):
Put me on the line.

Speaker 36 (01:10:09):
No, put me on the line with him.

Speaker 42 (01:10:10):
I want to talk to a manager right now.

Speaker 7 (01:10:12):
This is an outrage.

Speaker 2 (01:10:15):
Hey, how you doing so?

Speaker 27 (01:10:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (01:10:16):
This is Bob for Wen Shuler's cheese.

Speaker 43 (01:10:18):
I advertise on your program if you don't get Tony
Pike back on the air, I'm gonna come down there
with a can of cheese where I'm gonna stick it up.

Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
Your Bob is the nicest guy in the world, Bob.
I would never imagine he would sound like that, Bob,
but maybe, maybe, just maybe, gosh, he would do something.
I could take some more cheese.

Speaker 44 (01:10:37):
This is former President Ronald Reagan and welcome to Wish
for It Wednesday. Here's what I wish for. I wish
the Bengals would wear throwback nineteen seventies jerseys and helmets
once a year. I wish the Reds had a legit
power hitter. Oh, and I wish Joe Burrow would return
as quickly as Tony.

Speaker 3 (01:10:58):
Did you know Scott's Loan's already back moving around here
well at the station.

Speaker 2 (01:11:03):
Yeah, he was fresh off joke, so long, fresh off
of his tendon that was repaired in his ankle. I
would be all about throwback unis. Yeah, it's it's difficult
with the NFL's uniform rules. Yeah, the Bengals basically mixed
any possibility of a sixties or seventies era throwback when

(01:11:23):
they went to the white Bengal helmet. Because what's unique
about the Bengal orange helmets is that those are not
decals or any Bengals helmet. The stripes are not decals.
Those are painted on, which is very unique. That doesn't
happen in a lot of NFL cities or NFL.

Speaker 3 (01:11:42):
You see a lot of these videos as just replacing
the decals correct.

Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
And so theoretically, if the Bengals stripes were decals, you
could remove the decals and put like the pumpkinhead Bengals
on the side of it and then get figure out
the rest with the uniform thing. But because of that rule,
they can't. But they do have a uniform slot open,
which would mean they could do a throwback of the

(01:12:10):
eighties or nineties era Bengals. Yeah, if they wanted to
do that, and I think they would be smart to
do that, And I just get I don't know this
for sure. I have not talked to anybody inside that
organization about this, but I feel like, not next year,
but twenty twenty seven there's gonna be something special because
it's gonna be their sixtieth anniversary season and they're gonna

(01:12:35):
change the way they do the Ring of Honor, and
they'll probably bring some new guys in and maybe catch up.
But I think there's a possibility for something throwback like
in that twenty seven season.

Speaker 45 (01:12:45):
Okay, Tony, during your two week absence, my bucksome old
lady made the observation, Wow, he really is part time Pike,
And I said, no, I think Tony really was given
the gate. This isn't some sick joke. Austin is playing.

Speaker 24 (01:13:00):
Home right now, curled up in the fetal.

Speaker 45 (01:13:02):
Position, eating pine after pint of Graters ice cream.

Speaker 5 (01:13:05):
Here's what happened. Rad and the BA and I, well,
we went and.

Speaker 45 (01:13:08):
Had a meeting with the powers that be and we
did some arm twisting, and bottom line is you're welcome.

Speaker 2 (01:13:15):
Thank you. It's been a sick, sick prank.

Speaker 46 (01:13:19):
Hey, guys, it's Boomer Drew from South Bend. Boom, Austin Elmore.
I really like your new sidekick. He's great. He's a
lot better than the last joker you had. Thank you,
just kidding. Look, this is a great show, Austin. You
do a great job, absolutely great job. But the show
is just a lot more fun with you two on.

Speaker 5 (01:13:39):
It, and we need both you on it.

Speaker 46 (01:13:41):
To be honest, I really love the community that is
that it's built.

Speaker 5 (01:13:45):
Just much success to you guys.

Speaker 2 (01:13:46):
Thanks, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 47 (01:13:49):
So I go out of town for a few days
and I listened return on the radio day see what
I kind of missed, and lo, behold on your twenty
pike on the radio. I don't know how I missed
this or missed the news, but congratulations Austin. I think
you do a great job as well. But Tony, congrats.
I'll get your job back if that is the case.
Like I said, I just heard you on the radio today.

(01:14:12):
So anyway, go bear cast, go Bengals, and Tony will
be seeing you at the homecoming parade this week.

Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
Yes, Co Grand Marshall of the Homecoming Parade.

Speaker 2 (01:14:23):
Yeah, I sometimes forget that there are people out there
that just don't use social media. Yeah, that don't live
on social media like us. I got a phone call
from somebody earlier that said, is Tony back? Yeah, is
welcome back?

Speaker 7 (01:14:35):
Hello?

Speaker 9 (01:14:36):
Hello, this is Evan Ye.

Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
Tony.

Speaker 9 (01:14:43):
Tony.

Speaker 48 (01:14:43):
The other day God called in and you actually talked
to him on the phone. He usually leaves to talk back,
but this time he had a conversation.

Speaker 9 (01:14:55):
It was live. He's pretty down to earth. He's just
like you and me.

Speaker 19 (01:15:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:15:01):
I thought that was neat.

Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (01:15:07):
What's up, Tony? What's up, Austin?

Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
This is ass from Tampa.

Speaker 49 (01:15:12):
But Tony, I was expected to see you down here
in the past two weeks at the dakery deck.

Speaker 7 (01:15:18):
I guess you never crossed pass.

Speaker 5 (01:15:19):
I'm glad you're back.

Speaker 4 (01:15:21):
Hope all is well.

Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
Two day baby, Yep, that was my next move. It's
gotta be tough with everything going on, you'll probably never
ever be able to ever get a vacation again.

Speaker 11 (01:15:31):
Go hey, Tony, Hey, Jimmy, Hey, listen man, Hey, it's
good to have you back.

Speaker 5 (01:15:40):
Man.

Speaker 11 (01:15:41):
I missed you so much and uh, oh my god.

Speaker 5 (01:15:44):
I'd getting hungry.

Speaker 11 (01:15:46):
Listen, hey, Austin, Austin Gilmour did a great job.

Speaker 2 (01:15:50):
Gilmore Yeah, he really carried.

Speaker 7 (01:15:52):
The show there, you know.

Speaker 11 (01:15:54):
Uh, But I'm going to have you back. We're going
to do something. Hey, tell me where I'll send you something.
Tell me where to send the bill? All right, take take.

Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
Care, Thanks Jimmy. It's always good to hear from. What
up shoplifting, Tony? Oh? What's a better matchup for the
Bengals this weekend? Is it going against Fields or Tailor?
I know Tarad is.

Speaker 14 (01:16:14):
Day to day, but Fields could probably beat the Bengals
with his legs.

Speaker 2 (01:16:19):
Definitely not his passing game. But I'm hoping that this weekend's.

Speaker 50 (01:16:23):
An easy weekend for the Bengals to pull out a win.

Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
But you never know. Any given Sunday, have.

Speaker 42 (01:16:29):
A new thoughts, have a blessed day, Tony.

Speaker 4 (01:16:32):
I'm happy.

Speaker 3 (01:16:33):
I worry after watching Rogers just relax in the pocket.
I worry about the lack of pass rush and the
poor tackling. I would worry more about Fields playing in
this game than Taylor.

Speaker 2 (01:16:47):
I think you could apply the same thing and go
opposite and say I'd rather have Justin Fields make poor
decisions rather than beat you with his athleticism. But I
do think a to Rod Taylor with a compromised knee right,
it might be a better matchupp Speaking.

Speaker 51 (01:17:07):
Of wind schoolers, she spreads when you went off to college, Ricky,
I did a full spread for Playgirl magazine under the
name of my Concho A full spread?

Speaker 2 (01:17:20):
Is that a movie reference? I don't get.

Speaker 13 (01:17:24):
So.

Speaker 48 (01:17:25):
In the last ten.

Speaker 50 (01:17:27):
Mini Buy games, as in post Thursday Night Football, apparently
the Bengals are zero nine and one really correct, so
hopefully we will beat the Jets on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (01:17:45):
Who days. That's a crazy statistic. Yeah, I got it
right here, hold on, I guess that I'll get the
notes that Jay Morrison wrote about this this week. The
Bengals are six and four on Thursdays over the last
ten seasons, but they have lost nine straight after the
mini by dating back to twenty fifteen.

Speaker 5 (01:18:05):
Yawsers.

Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
That's from Jay Morrison. Yowsers p.

Speaker 32 (01:18:09):
Fifteen Audi yuess it was back back again. Tpe's back.
Tell a friend the talk backs have been off the chain.
I ain't had a chance to get in here, man,
move mount healthy. It's just saying it's nice to see
you back. It's like peanut, butter and chocolate that made
the comeback, and I'm glad your back.

Speaker 5 (01:18:30):
Brother.

Speaker 32 (01:18:31):
Much success to you and Audi. I love your show.
Keep doing what you're doing.

Speaker 2 (01:18:35):
And peanut butter and chocolate. I haven't heard that one before,
but I mean that is good.

Speaker 5 (01:18:40):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:18:41):
If we were peanut butter and jelly, who's peanut butter
and who's jelly?

Speaker 3 (01:18:44):
Well, I don't know. I don't need either of them
by themselves.

Speaker 2 (01:18:49):
Dude, you are the worst. I don't need either, just
the worst. That right, there is a fireable offense. Might
be what trouble. I ate peanut butter out of the
jar last night while I was watching the NBA. Then
I'll be jelly.

Speaker 15 (01:19:09):
Hold on, I haven't listened in a little in a week.

Speaker 43 (01:19:13):
Do I hear Tony Pike back on the radio?

Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
What the what?

Speaker 15 (01:19:19):
Welcome back next year?

Speaker 4 (01:19:21):
You?

Speaker 2 (01:19:24):
Thanks for listening.

Speaker 36 (01:19:27):
Hey, Caddy, I said, glad you're back.

Speaker 43 (01:19:30):
I'm so glad you're back. I do got a question
that that DeAndre eight Man. He's got a really, really
flat face. I don't think he's gonna fit in with
the Lakers either. Like he's got one of those faces
where he's like coach says, hey, take a look at
yourself in the mirror, and they're like, DeAndre, what you
doing his face is like flat.

Speaker 2 (01:19:47):
With the mirror, and he's like, I'm just doing what
you told me. I've never heard someone described as having
a flat face. Good the ear from you.

Speaker 49 (01:19:56):
Hey it's David Bell. Hey, damn American League champion. That's right,
just checking in on Cincinnati down there. I'd like to
play a little game with you. I'd like you to
look up the band The Heavy and then find the
album The House that they'ret Built, and then click on
track number two for me. I think you'll have fun

(01:20:17):
with that.

Speaker 9 (01:20:18):
Good luck next season, you're gonna need it.

Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
Tang. Thank you, David.

Speaker 5 (01:20:23):
Wow.

Speaker 52 (01:20:23):
I'm not trying to speak ill of the network that
employees both of you, but they keep throwing these dumb
ads on the app when I'm trying to leave a talkback.
So if I left like a five and second one,
I apologize. I was trying to say, Tony, now that
it's Tony Pike. Since the three to sixty, when's the
live Augies broadcast? Let's do a live show at Augie
So heck, I'll bartend. Why y'all do it? It'll be

(01:20:46):
so much fun. I have all the talkbackers show up.
We'll do live talkbacks.

Speaker 2 (01:20:50):
Sounds like a good idea.

Speaker 7 (01:20:51):
Maybe I should be president or something.

Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
It's been one of my goals since this show's inception,
is to do a live show for aggies. Hasn't been
in the cards.

Speaker 43 (01:21:00):
Hey, just one thing on the Bengals too. They just
talk about Ted Carriss. Obviously he's a great dude. He
comes from a great line, great people.

Speaker 5 (01:21:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 42 (01:21:08):
I mean, besides, we're gonna cut that.

Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
That was a coach's n That was not a high
energy talked back.

Speaker 5 (01:21:20):
The end of that one.

Speaker 34 (01:21:22):
Tony Austen, We're having a great day, you too, Ryan. Yeah,
I just want to give a shout out to you, Tony.
I'm being inducted into UC's Hall of Fame and mister
Dave Lapham into the Bengals Hall of Fame.

Speaker 5 (01:21:37):
So you guys are awesome. Man, I'm so.

Speaker 2 (01:21:40):
Pumped for Dave Lapham. That's right, man, me too, so
freaking deserving.

Speaker 5 (01:21:45):
Hey, go Marcus from the groove.

Speaker 35 (01:21:48):
So for the World Series, I know some people look
at it like Dodgers win. At least the Reds got
beat by the World Series champions. The way I look
at it is Reds fans want the Dodgers to lose
because so far, the Reds are still the last National
League team to go back to back World Series champions.

Speaker 5 (01:22:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:22:11):
I get that. It's like, you know, the Dolphins rooting
for a team to lose and not go undefeated. But
at the same time, Austin, you could also hang a
banner that the Reds lost to the World Series champs
in the playoffs. Yeah, and that is a bannerable thing.
I disagree with that. I don't care about that at all. Banners.

Speaker 2 (01:22:29):
No, that idea that they lost to the World Champs,
I don't care about. I would rather I agree with
Marcus hold that, you know, last team to go back
to back, so you're holding on to the past. Yeah
all right, man, Sorry, we knew what you were saying.

Speaker 9 (01:22:48):
Well, welcome back, Tony. Thank you to see that you're
back on the.

Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
Radio and we're here.

Speaker 53 (01:22:53):
I know if I was going to continue listening or not,
but and I saw Austin was going to be the
permanent person, and I was like, man, I am gonna
continue to tune in because I do.

Speaker 9 (01:23:03):
Dig him, but they did him wrong. I hope they
find him his own show. That's terrible. Pull the rug
out from underneathing, like that.

Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
Did you leave a talk back? Thanks man, I'm gonna
save that one. That might be for Cinci shirts. Winner
of the week right there.

Speaker 10 (01:23:23):
Right in the LB A boy.

Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
Anyway, like you're back, Pally. I was worried about you
for a little bit. I started putting Christmas lights up and.

Speaker 54 (01:23:32):
I tell but I'm like, oh, this guy is in deep, deep,
deep deep too.

Speaker 2 (01:23:38):
Anyway, I'm worried about UC Clifton.

Speaker 32 (01:23:40):
I think we're gonna lose Old Saddie.

Speaker 55 (01:23:42):
I want him God now, I want to cape m
But I.

Speaker 54 (01:23:46):
Think he's gonna go that carpet bagger. Dennis is gonna
move us somewhere else, guaranteed, Old Saddie.

Speaker 2 (01:23:53):
Now we're worried about losing Saddy to another job.

Speaker 12 (01:23:56):
In the rep in the city. What up, Tony, Welcome back,
g we missed it. You belong on radio. I watched
the Big twelve press conference yesterday and I watched a
little bit today. The Lady Cats got to show him
loved Alexander Yo. They got my attention. This is the
year of the Cats. The man's basketball. You have to
get to the tournament and win it. Football, get to Dallas, Bengals,

(01:24:18):
man beat the Jets get the five hunting and we
can talk about that Bears game later on. All I
want to do is win FC Cincinnati beat them.

Speaker 3 (01:24:26):
I don't know if they need to win the whole tournament.
I think they need to win a game in the tournament.
But watch out for the women lady Cats too. Now
with d Alexander, I agree with that. Now he called
you G. He said, what up Ge?

Speaker 2 (01:24:36):
I'll take it. I think G always plays. Yeah, we
have team. We have a coworker who always calls me pimp,
like pamp or pimping pamp? What up Pamper? What up pimping?
He says, what up? Pimp? Okay, I think it's been
twenty years since people said that. I kind of want

(01:24:57):
to call him on it. Yeah, I don't know if
I should. Do you think he thinks that that's still
a thing. Yes, he absolutely does. Okay. He also will
give me fist bumps, but he won't extend his arm,
so he keeps his arm like attached to his chest. Basically,
he's got very long arms, very long limbs. This person, okay,

(01:25:18):
a long limbed pimping. No, there's no end, it's just pimp, pimp.
So he'll barely stick his wrist out and say, what up, pimp?
I have to do all the work, I have to
reach over. I don't like doing the fist bumps with this. Okay,
do you do you? Does anybody call you pimp?

Speaker 7 (01:25:38):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
What was the last time you got called pimp?

Speaker 5 (01:25:41):
Years?

Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
Okay?

Speaker 39 (01:25:43):
Hello, so happy, Tony thought Austin was finally getting the
number one billing that he deserved. It's still nice to
have you back.

Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
That's a deep cut for some of you. That's your
girlfriend because that hurts.

Speaker 10 (01:26:05):
Egg don't welcome back.

Speaker 2 (01:26:09):
Oh, it's the same show.

Speaker 10 (01:26:12):
That we all know. Welcome back. Bustin and Tone do
a great job. Welcome back, Welcome back.

Speaker 5 (01:26:23):
Welcome back.

Speaker 2 (01:26:25):
Let's come great.

Speaker 56 (01:26:31):
Well, hello there, Oh my goodness, gracious, this is a herah,
you know, from the establishment next to the Dicorne Deck
down here in Florida, dough Well, Tony, we were all
set for your arrival, you know, come down here and
soak your tears with us.

Speaker 9 (01:26:45):
But we happy you're back on the air. We're catching
you on.

Speaker 56 (01:26:48):
The satellite down to seventy five once against the Herah
see at Doctory Deck in the spring ton of Boys.

Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
Is there an establishment like that next to the days.
A lot of establishments down there there. So there's one
strip club in green Bay, Wisconsin. Wow, and it's called
it's either called the White House. Don't say it's either
or it's like you don't know, it's either the White
House or the Oval Office. I think it's called the

(01:27:16):
white House. It is a presidential thing, you think or
you know, Pam. I know because when you drive into
green Bay there is a huge billboard with a scantily
clad woman that says green Bay's only gentleman's club, the
white House. And it's got like the presidential seal on it.

(01:27:37):
That is absurd. You go to those type of places
down there next to the dakery deck. No, I don't
think they have one in CSA key bug Beak dicted
the bottom pool the calling.

Speaker 5 (01:27:47):
First of all, Audi, you do a great job hosting show.
Was your job? Thank you?

Speaker 37 (01:27:52):
You remind me of two thousand and nine Bearcats football
season quarterback Zach Kolaris.

Speaker 5 (01:27:57):
You come in, you do a good job.

Speaker 37 (01:27:58):
When Tony's pike is not available, you win, win, win,
just starting to build momentum, and then it's on these
Fike Waltz is back in and takes her job.

Speaker 2 (01:28:08):
That's right, it's always I've always been a man of
Zach Kolaros, to be honest. That is fantastic. Yeah, I
mean has been good back to back days. Man, Yeah,
he sold. It doesn't happen often for.

Speaker 15 (01:28:20):
Help have like a ten year career in CHAINEA but
you just go the NFL and then I don't know,
I don't.

Speaker 24 (01:28:28):
Get it just fizzled out.

Speaker 5 (01:28:29):
It was.

Speaker 2 (01:28:30):
It's just brutal. I got the chance to meet Vinnie
I heard I.

Speaker 57 (01:28:39):
Blowed away, But caboy, I'd like to welcome back. Oh
Tony Peck, you're about the third best duo on Cincinnati Sport,
behind me and Marty Brenahan. Also behind George Grant and
Chris Swills. Then there's you two. Actually I heard that.

(01:29:01):
Uh oh, I heart read you couldn't pay. Tony's bound
was in the millions, so they just told him to
come on back.

Speaker 5 (01:29:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:29:10):
If my bio was like that, you wouldn't hear me.
Right now, come on back to the house. You wouldn't
hear me. Old James Franklin over there, Oh my god.

Speaker 36 (01:29:19):
High energy Howard here, If you want it, you can
get it.

Speaker 16 (01:29:22):
Let me know.

Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
I can't wait for Hall of Famer Tony Park to
take the field. I can't wait to beat the bell
of Bears.

Speaker 30 (01:29:29):
I can't wait to cross the JITs domination all week long.

Speaker 2 (01:29:34):
That's high energy, Howard, Uh, you gonna need high energy conversations.

Speaker 5 (01:29:38):
Baby.

Speaker 2 (01:29:38):
By the way, got confirmation from someone in Green Bay
Oval office.

Speaker 34 (01:29:43):
M Hi, Swellie, you're durned right Tony's jelly because jam
don't shake like that.

Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
Come on, come on, little Stuart Sky. Damn h n
stop stop.

Speaker 14 (01:29:56):
Just getting out of the dispensary here and you guys
want high energy.

Speaker 2 (01:30:01):
I'm about to get some energy up in here. Okay.
How come we don't have a dispensary to advertise on
the show?

Speaker 41 (01:30:11):
Great question, Hey Tony, I'm glad you're back because you
know me and random questions.

Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
Have you ever been on the bottom of.

Speaker 20 (01:30:21):
A football pile and been like claustrophobic or can't breathe
or anything like that?

Speaker 2 (01:30:27):
Hey, Tony was like Cam Newton, he didn't get you
didn't jump on the ball when it was.

Speaker 3 (01:30:30):
You're just bagging to get out. There's people trying to
grab things down there. Poke guy, It's just it's not
a place you want to be. I mean, I can
even attest to that from playing high school? Ain't it
ain't a place you want to be?

Speaker 16 (01:30:43):
Has you ever been a more pimpin studio than I?

Speaker 5 (01:30:47):
Heart Radio?

Speaker 7 (01:30:48):
What's up?

Speaker 5 (01:30:49):
Bring it into the short arm?

Speaker 16 (01:30:51):
Bill Walton here, good to hear you, guys, back as
your duel on the three sixty Radio Doney, I'll be
at the Hall of Fame Honors on Saturday. I might
walk up due the blimp, the plope, whatever you may be.
I might be on al wash Cup, but I'll make
it appearance.

Speaker 2 (01:31:09):
Wow, how about that? Walton's gonna be here. Let's go.
That was our last all right one segment.

Speaker 3 (01:31:16):
When we get back, Keg and Nicholson standing by from
Big twelve Media Day, We've got a lot still to go.

Speaker 2 (01:31:21):
ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. You're one stop for
advertising called eight four.

Speaker 1 (01:31:26):
Four Daddy, brought you in part by Bud Light and
by Oakley Greens on ESPN fifteen thirty, the official home
of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 3 (01:31:37):
Welcome back. It is since he three to sixty football
in the NATI. ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station. Do
we have any injury? Any other injury updates Austin. We
have not got to for the Cincinnati Bengals. Cedric Johnson
is back.

Speaker 2 (01:31:49):
Yes, Cedric Johnson. They opened his twenty one day window
to begin practicing. This is actually a good thing because
Cedric Johnson, outside of Trey Hendrickson, was probably their best
pass rusher the last five or six games. It was
Joseph Osai and Cedric Johnson that really played well those
last five games that helped the Bengals even come remotely
close to the playoffs alongside Trey. So hopefully Sad Johnson

(01:32:12):
can perform and get back onto the field sooner rather
than later. Trey Hendrickson is at practice today. He's dressed
for practice. Zach said earlier he would likely be designated
as limited, but he is at practice. Cam Sample, another
defensive end, he is not at practice today. He was
dealing with a left leg injury that he suffered against

(01:32:35):
the Steelers. He is still considered day to day, but
he is not practicing today. At the fields adjacent to
pay Course Stadium.

Speaker 3 (01:32:44):
Someone is practicing today and it is noteworthy news across
the NFL. Lamar Jackson spotted back at Ravens practice. So
there you have it.

Speaker 2 (01:32:51):
One more for the Bengals. Tanner Hudson is back at practice.
He missed the Steelers game after being in concussion protocol
after the Pack game. So Tanner Hudson back of practice today.

Speaker 3 (01:33:02):
There we go, let's break, Let's come back. Big twelve
Media Day is happening. Keegan Nikoson at Bearcat Journal dot
Com is there. He'll join us to kick off our
three next on the Home of the Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 1 (01:33:16):
You've been listening to Football in the NATI on ESPN
fifteen thirty, the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals. K
Boss Tony Pike Cincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati,
sponsored in hardby Penn Station East Coast Subs, hand crept

(01:33:39):
It hot grilled subs, fresh cut fries in lemonade. It's
all about good taste. Penn Station East Coast Subs order
on line today. This is ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (01:33:55):
Welcome back our three.

Speaker 3 (01:33:57):
Thanks to Penn Station, Thank you for listening to along
just since he three to sixty on the Home of
the Bengals ESBN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station, Austin let's
get right into it. It is my second favorite Nickoson,
but my favorite Nickoson that covers the Bearcats are good.
Friend Keegan joining us from Big twelve media Day.

Speaker 2 (01:34:16):
Hi, Keegan.

Speaker 4 (01:34:18):
Hill, How I'm good?

Speaker 2 (01:34:19):
How are you?

Speaker 4 (01:34:21):
I'm doing excellent.

Speaker 8 (01:34:22):
I'm sitting outside of the team Moville Center, got the
sun shining down. It's been a good day so far,
and I'm excited to be talking to you.

Speaker 3 (01:34:30):
Any big takeaways from what we've heard or what you
heard from Wes Miller or any of the players today.

Speaker 8 (01:34:38):
I mean, tangibly, the biggest takeaway I would have is
that somehow there's a slight possibility that Perkriesa could take
advantage of a seventh year eligibility next season.

Speaker 4 (01:34:51):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 8 (01:34:51):
The exact kind of things that would have to happen,
or contingencies or stuff with the rules, because I mean,
I've been trying to study the stuff for three years.
I still have no idea what's going on. But there's
some way. And something that happened is freshman year where
he could get another extra year of eligibility, and we
asked him about it, because you don't know for sure

(01:35:12):
if a kid can get nexture year if he's going
to want to come back, especially when he's been here
for six years or been in college for six years,
and he goes, Yeah, college basketball is the best.

Speaker 4 (01:35:22):
Thing in the world. I would absolutely take advantage of
a seventh year.

Speaker 8 (01:35:26):
So other than that, nothing's huge. Some interesting role changes
about continuations with and one pulls is going to look
more like the NBA, and then the coaches challenges that are.

Speaker 4 (01:35:38):
Going to be implemented this season.

Speaker 8 (01:35:39):
Wes Miller said he likes that they're trying to modernize
and trying to kind of change some stuff, but he
doesn't like how it's going to work, especially with the challenges.
So a lot of stuff going on, a lot of
stuff we can hit on, but still got some stuff
to cover.

Speaker 3 (01:35:57):
So kicking the injury to Jalen Haynes big sline, what
was the role in your opinion of Haines going to
be on this team and subsequently, how big of a
loss is this for the Bearcats. I know there's no
timetable on his injury, but how big of a loss
is this?

Speaker 4 (01:36:15):
Yeah, it's a pretty big loss.

Speaker 8 (01:36:17):
I think in terms of playing through the post, he
was going to be one a maybe one b with
Mustapha Cham, but when you just think about the role
that he would have played in the offense and kind
of just the big back to the basket guy who
has kind of the skyhook move but back people down.

(01:36:39):
It's something that you see hasn't had since maybe Gary Clark.

Speaker 4 (01:36:43):
In twenty nineteen, and it's.

Speaker 8 (01:36:45):
Something that a lot of coaches or a lot of
fans has missed and they've just been asking for someone
that they could just throw the ball down to in
the post and get a bucket. The good thing is
is that I feel Wes Miller kind of overcompensated a
little bit in that area. He also brought in Mustafa Cham,
who can do that Baba Miller.

Speaker 4 (01:37:07):
Showed that he could do it against Michigan, so he.

Speaker 8 (01:37:10):
Added a ton of really really good depth. It's a
testament to how good of a transfer portal class they
had that.

Speaker 4 (01:37:16):
You know, you lose a big player, potential starter on.

Speaker 8 (01:37:18):
Jalen Haynes and it's not exactly dooom or bloom. The
outlook for the season is a little down from where
it was before the injury, just because we all know
how tough these big twelve schedules can get. Especially when
you get into late February.

Speaker 4 (01:37:34):
But I think just.

Speaker 8 (01:37:38):
Kind of pivoting to Musapha Chan or Maba Miller is
going to be the best thing.

Speaker 3 (01:37:43):
Last Friday, we saw the Bearcats continued dominance over the
Big Ten and exhibition games continue. Last year was Ohio State,
this year it was Michigan. I overreacted last year to
how they looked against Ohio State in the exhibition. Did
you see things on Friday against Michigan that give you
reason for more optimism on how this team is constructed

(01:38:06):
and how they play off of each other.

Speaker 8 (01:38:09):
I think the biggest thing you can look at, regardless
of exhibition is is Shaun of Bios because when you
have that kid coming from the overtime of league circuit,
which I got to play it. I got to watch
it in Atlanta last year when they played Georgia Tech,
and it's a different brand of high school basketball.

Speaker 4 (01:38:28):
It's kind of like the NBA.

Speaker 8 (01:38:30):
They're not playing extremely tough defense. It's kind of just
the best offensive players were shying. He was scoring forty
points like night in and night out, and you have questions.
You know this kid is skilled, you know that he
can compete at the ote level. But how is it
going to translate when this offensive firepower is going up
against some of the best talent in the country and

(01:38:50):
him scoring fifteen points, him staying true to his game,
hitting the step back freeze, kind of going in isolation
and getting a bucket. That's what fans can be excited about,
and they can say, Okay, this kid is not a bust.

Speaker 4 (01:39:04):
He's going to be good and he's going to be
someone you see.

Speaker 8 (01:39:07):
Can rely on the rest of it, I'm not really
sure how much you can really take from it. I
think Kirk Riso played how he's going to play the
entire season in terms of dyd Bress if he was
in three point shooting. Since your Harris getting five steals,
I don't expect five steals every game, but I feel like.

Speaker 4 (01:39:25):
You got a little bit of what each player.

Speaker 8 (01:39:28):
Was brought in to do, whether on the defensive side
of the ball or the offensive.

Speaker 4 (01:39:32):
Side of the ball.

Speaker 8 (01:39:33):
And you know, a lot of fans can get their
hopes up and I would completely understand it, but we
got to remember where this team was after they beat
Georgia Tech by like thirty.

Speaker 4 (01:39:42):
Points last year in the regular season.

Speaker 8 (01:39:45):
And you're thinking this is the top ten team, they're
going to be top three team in the Big Twelve,
and they're going to be a four seed in the
NCAA Tournament, and then the Big Twelve schedule starts and
it all just goes downhill. So you really have to
look at it as two separate the non conference first,
the conference season. When they start in the Big twelfth
season and they rattle off three to four wins in

(01:40:06):
a row, that's when you can kind of get your
hopes up and say, Okay, we've got a pretty good
team on our hands.

Speaker 3 (01:40:11):
Schedule coming up Friday, they're going to be at Arkansas
taking on John Calipari's bunch. The regular season starts on
November third, and it's a quick build up because on
the eleventh of November you got to play Dayton. On
the twenty first, you got to rank take on eleventh
ranked Louisville, So it does pick up quickly. Let's say
between now and the Dayton game. What's the biggest thing
that needs to be answered for you?

Speaker 8 (01:40:34):
How we already talked about it with Dyon Haynes. How
is the inside offense working and kind of adjusting to
not having Haynes.

Speaker 4 (01:40:43):
What does Baba Miller.

Speaker 8 (01:40:44):
Look like, because he was kind of brought in as
that point forward type guy who can dribble. He's really
good offensively, he can shoot the three, he can shoot
mid ranges. But we saw him against Michigan and he
was really really good on the defensive and offensive boards.
He was good down low. The biggest thing I'm going
to be looking for is how good they are inside,

(01:41:04):
because getting those points and being efficient down there will
just feed so much more for the offense. And then
you also have to look at how are they defensively
because you have the really talented defender and Syncir Harris
who can get those steals, and Dada Thomas is good defensively,
but how are you playing as an unit? Because if
you give up ninety eight points a game, it's probably

(01:41:26):
not going to be a very preseason And I know
West Miller was not happy at all about how they
played defensively, especially on some of their closeouts. So just
how they're gelling defensively, how they're switching, and how their
chemistry is.

Speaker 4 (01:41:38):
Is going to be one of the bigger things that
I'm looking for.

Speaker 3 (01:41:41):
Gisel James is not with the team, day Da Thomas
is is their depth there at point guard, that you
believe they're going to be okay at that position or
is that still need to play itself out.

Speaker 8 (01:41:53):
I think it needs to play itself out because right now,
based off the Michigan game, it's looking like the point
guards are going to be kerk Pres and Keishan Tillery,
and David Thomas is going to see a lot of
action at the two, and since your Harris is going
to see a lot of action at the two, Shaun
of Bible play the two in the three. So looking
at Keischan Tillery and how he kind of facilitates himself

(01:42:16):
as another big storyline that you need to watch for
the next or for the first two weeks of the season.
He doesn't have to go out and average twelve points
a game and eight assists, but kind of just facilitating
the offense getting those four or five assists a game
and then not turning the ball over a ton is
what's really going to help, you see, because if there's

(01:42:36):
a steep drop off from Crease to the Tillery, it's
going to hurt the momentum and everything's just going to
go downhill. But if he can just take care of
the ball play within himself, don't try to do something
that he's not asked to do. I think that the
offense should be able to run pretty well, because that's
what he was recruited for, was would be a really
good offensive player and facility at the offense.

Speaker 2 (01:42:58):
Keegan.

Speaker 3 (01:42:59):
On the other side of this football happening this weekend,
Baylor coming into town, the top passing offense in the country.
Are you buying into what you're seeing from the Cincinnati
bearcatch right now?

Speaker 4 (01:43:12):
I am. And I wrote a story after they beat.

Speaker 8 (01:43:15):
Bullying Green only my only fourteen points, I think, and
everyone is freaking out. I said, don't write these guys
off yet, Like I know, this wasn't a.

Speaker 4 (01:43:25):
Pretty showing, but just don't write them off.

Speaker 8 (01:43:28):
And since that game, they're four and oh in six
and one and or five and four and oh in
the Big Twelve, and they're ranked number twenty one. And
I just saw too much talent. I knew there was
too much talent on the team for them to be disappointing.

Speaker 4 (01:43:44):
It's on both sides of the ball.

Speaker 8 (01:43:46):
I love the quarterback play, I love howls, stretching the
ball downfield efficiently while also not having that many turnover
worthy plays and only one interception on the season. The
running back tandem is kind of going back and forth,
but who's performing better, which I think is a really
big thing. And then the wide receiver corps is awesome.
I mean, Jeff Caldwell, you know with Jennings, Cyrus Allen,

(01:44:10):
Caleb Goody, Isaiah Johnson, Joe Royer, and you're legitimately sixt
deep that pass catcher.

Speaker 4 (01:44:16):
I love how they're using Royer in the red zone.

Speaker 8 (01:44:18):
I love whether they're disguising him as a blocker initially
and then he breaks out and gets those easy receptions.
Everything is working really, really well. I'll be interested to
see how the defense reacts because against Oklahoma State it
was probably the worst defensive effort of the season and
just how they tackled and Oklahoma State was able to
run basically.

Speaker 4 (01:44:36):
Wherever they wanted to.

Speaker 8 (01:44:38):
Baylor really really high powered offense. Can you get another
interception to see a game late? Can you kind of
shut down the run game for Storry Robinson in with
some mistakes. There's a lot of questions, but I'm I'm
confident that UC's probably going to win this week and.

Speaker 4 (01:44:53):
Then go into a huge game against Utah next week.

Speaker 3 (01:44:57):
Kegan, Dante Corleone is not played a ton of snaps,
and I feel like when he's not in the three
three fives just not as effective. If you don't have
a dominant nose. It's hard in the three three five
because you're not requiring as many offensive linemen to block
Dante Corleone and you're getting to the second level. Could
we see a situation where you see some four down

(01:45:18):
fronts when Dante Corleone is an in do you do
you think that they have to make an adjustment based
on what you've seen other teams do.

Speaker 8 (01:45:26):
Not really, because they're being pretty open with the fact
that they just play a loose.

Speaker 4 (01:45:30):
Defense uping to the red zone.

Speaker 8 (01:45:32):
So they're kind of saying, hey, from the twenty to
the twenty, offenses are going to be able to move
the ball, but it's what happens within those twenty to.

Speaker 4 (01:45:40):
The end zone that's what's important.

Speaker 8 (01:45:43):
So that's why you're seeing Dante really not play a
lot of the drive until they.

Speaker 4 (01:45:47):
Get to the red zone and then he comes in
and maybe it's a.

Speaker 8 (01:45:49):
Third and seven and he needs to reach some havoc
on a pass play and then he comes in. I
think right now, they're putting him in a position to
kind of be as fresh as possible. I don't really
disagree with that, especially if you're just going to allow
so many yards on the rest of the drive. So
I don't know if he's one hundred percent healthy after

(01:46:10):
the ankle thing. He could be only about ninety percent,
And you can't really forty five snaps a game.

Speaker 4 (01:46:17):
But I think what's.

Speaker 8 (01:46:20):
What they're doing right now is at least working as
then they're not losing games because of it. But it'll
be interesting to see what they do against Baylor and
a good quarterback and a really talented offense.

Speaker 4 (01:46:33):
But I don't think that playing him forty to forty
five snaps a game is a solution. And I also
don't think that the four man front kind.

Speaker 8 (01:46:41):
Of deviating with the identity of your defense is a
solution either.

Speaker 3 (01:46:46):
One more thing on the defense, is there any concern
to you. We've seen this defense not only susceptible to
giving up yards, they also at times just give up
time consuming drives. A fifteen play drive, a nineteen play drive,
Drives that are taking eight or nine minutes, and while
the offense is operating at the way they are or
they're operating with a lead, it's different. Do you worry

(01:47:06):
about that strategy if a team takes a lead against
the Bearcats and all of a sudden, you're limiting possessions
for the offense.

Speaker 4 (01:47:15):
Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 8 (01:47:16):
I think it shrinks your margin of air a little
bit because a Sadderfield said, they're a rhythm offense, and
if you're not in a rhythm, they might struggle a
little bit. And we saw it against Oklahoma State that
the start of the third quarter was rough until Sorzi
makes maybe the best throw of the season on that
third and sixteen for a first time that Jeff culdeo
and then everything's rolling and they getting the end zone

(01:47:37):
and then the pick six happens when the game is
pretty much over. So when you're playing a good team
like Baylor, like Utah DYU, TCU like they have coming
down the stretch, that's something that you're really.

Speaker 4 (01:47:49):
Going to have to look out for.

Speaker 8 (01:47:51):
And I think time of possession it doesn't matter to
some people as much as others as long as your
offense is coming, but it's kind of it's kind of
taken away from itself when you have that rhythm offense.
So I think the third down calls are interesting to me.
On defense, maybe they try something else, maybe they try

(01:48:13):
to get up to the quarterbacks a little.

Speaker 4 (01:48:15):
Bit more and just force an incompletion or throwaway.

Speaker 8 (01:48:18):
But if you can be better on third down and
get off the field and then the offense can get going,
That's why I feel that's part you're seeing. You see
take those very quick fourteen seventeen to twenty one point
leads and games, and then you can kind of maybe
be a lesson to be less aggressive in the second
half and then play just good enough to win, like
you've seen against Iowa State and other teams.

Speaker 2 (01:48:42):
Keegan.

Speaker 3 (01:48:42):
Lastly, we know what the offense has been and Scott
Soudderfield has a huge hand in that, and swersby the
offensive line's been great. You mentioned Royer, the dual threat
running back, the weapons on the outside. How important is
it for you what we've seen from the special teams unit,
because a year ago it was a disaster. A year
ago special teams limited this team. The mistakes before the

(01:49:05):
halff or a special teams blunder that completely changed the momentum.
We've talked defense, we talk a ton of offense. How
impressive is special team's been with what they've been able
to do.

Speaker 4 (01:49:18):
I think it's to your point.

Speaker 8 (01:49:20):
I think special teams lost in games last year. I mean,
go back to the Iowa State game. On the last
four games of the season. That's why a lot of
people were pounding the drums for Max Fletcher to go
out in punt because it was pretty apparent that Mason
after that tackle against West Virginia, he had something going
on with his ribs and it didn't seem like he
was one hundred percent. If punts dropped way down on

(01:49:43):
yards for average or average yards per punt, and you're
just giving the other team great field position on basically
every drive, it puts so much pressure on your defense,
and then it puts so much pressure on your offense.
And I think everything's just kind of working together this
year and that if there's some pressure on the offense,
they have the Jimmies and Joe's to go and get

(01:50:04):
a first down and get the offense rolling and make
a big play.

Speaker 7 (01:50:08):
But what Luke Paskal has done has.

Speaker 8 (01:50:10):
Been a revelation, because I mean, I'm not going to
sit here and say that the special teams is like elite.
I mean they have a kicker who hasn't missed the
field goal, and they have a punter who booms it.

Speaker 4 (01:50:21):
They still haven't.

Speaker 8 (01:50:21):
Returned anything for touchdowns or you know that kind of
part of it, the blocking. There's still penalties and stuff
like that. But if you can have an average special teams,
it helps your team so much compared to having a
bad special teams. I mean, they could have won two
or three more games last year if they even had
an average special teams And you're starting to see the
difference that that can make on the team.

Speaker 3 (01:50:43):
Keegan, you're the best man, Kegen nickoson Bearcatgeneral dot Com.
What are you working on and what's the easiest way
for folks to follow along.

Speaker 5 (01:50:50):
With your work?

Speaker 8 (01:50:52):
Yeah, I'm going to have a big twelve media day's
notebook up here in the next couple hours. Got the
chance to talk to kirkrees So one on one and
talked about his journey recently lost his grandfather who was
a big, big part of his life, and kind of
coming off a year where he had to miss basically
the whole season after an injury on Kentucky and he

(01:51:14):
had never had to go through that, so kind of
battling through that and he said he feels like a
freshman right now despite being in a sixth year. So
that's going to come out in the next couple of days.

He is Keegan nickoson Bearcat Journal dot com. Always always
appreciate Keigan's time, especially why he's on the road at
Big twelve Media Day happening right now. We'll take a break,
we'll come back. I've got some NFL trade deadline conversation
to dive into. Next on the Home of the Bengals
ESPN fifteen to thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 18 (01:51:51):
Now your chance to win one thousand dollars entered this
nationwide Keward on our website.

Speaker 2 (01:51:56):
Check that's check entering.

Speaker 3 (01:52:09):
Welcome back since e three to sixty ESBN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station, thanks to our good friends at Penn Station.
How about this from the NFL Today, Austin, Jeremy Faller,
Matt Bowen got together and they started looking at the
upcoming trade deadline in the NFL, which happens to be
on Tuesday, November fourth, at four o'clock. And we mentioned

(01:52:31):
this yesterday. That is right after two days after the
Bengals play the Bears at home. If you beat the Jets,
beat the Bears, you'd be five and four at that point.
There's the trade deadline. Made the conversation yesterday that you
don't have to wait until then to be active. But
on this list Austin they put top the top twenty
five players who could be on the move. And out

(01:52:53):
of the twenty five players listed, three Cincinnati Bengals made
the list.

Speaker 2 (01:52:59):
Three Bengals that could be traded.

Speaker 3 (01:53:01):
Yes, number twenty on the list Cam Taylor Britt. They
predict a twenty five percent chance that Cam Taylor Britt
has traded. Team fits include the Colts, Commanders, and Eagles.
Obviously this comes up because he was a healthy scratch
against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Has shown flashes but has not

(01:53:23):
been consistent. That is the term they use today.

Speaker 2 (01:53:26):
Those at Cam Taylor brit Those at Bengals practice today
reporting that Cam Taylor Britt has spent a lot of
time on special teams. Okay, so find a way he's
in the dog house, like in the doghouse. Of being
in the doghouse. Remember, you're a healthy scratch. I mean
that's your Maine Burton levels of doghouse.

Speaker 5 (01:53:45):
Yep uh.

Speaker 2 (01:53:46):
He's got a lot of work to do.

Speaker 3 (01:53:47):
Number eleven on this list and a sixty chance, as
they predict, of getting traded Logan Wilson. Now we've Austin
the Bengals are going younger at linebacker. Would you be
willing to move on from Logan Wilson? He has a

(01:54:09):
base salary next year of six million, Like he's a
three down guy. He has been phenomenal. I think for
the Cincinnati Bengals. They list team fits as the Cowboys,
forty nine Ers, Bills, and Colts. Obviously the Colts are
going to be on all these because of lu and Rumo.
Would you be comfortable if this team was five and
four and moved on from Logan Wilson.

Speaker 2 (01:54:30):
No, I wouldn't, and the reason for that being they
don't have any depth at that position. Zero. Like I
love Logan Wilson, and I can admit that maybe not
the same player that he was a couple of years ago,
and that injury he had last year is a lot
more serious than people realized. And yeah, he's lost a
bit of a step. Your other linebackers are Shaka Hayward

(01:54:52):
and Orin Burkes, well outside of Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter. Yeah,
so in unless it is an offer that you just
cannot refuse whatsoever. You know, if somebody can give you
a third round pick for him, then take it right.
But if it's you know, more than that, I don't
know that the risk is worth the reward. I don't
think it is. It's like, if you look across teams

(01:55:14):
in the NFL right now, one of the big issues
is depth. Like it's not a sexy topic in the offseason,
but it's incredibly important to talk about a team's depth.
I don't think Buffalo has great depth. The Eagles are
dealing with depth issues on their defensive line right now.
Injuries happen across the NFL. In your depth and your

(01:55:34):
development of said depth is what makes good football teams great.
The Bengals don't have enough depth at that position to
move on from Logan Wilson in my opinion. Lastly on
this list, let me give you the top ten. Jermaine
Johnson edge rusher from New York Okay Alante Taylor corner
for the Saints. Jalen Phillips. You see this time of

(01:55:55):
the year, teams that are underachieving are probably going to
be moving on from players. Jalen Phillips is a net
drusher for the Dolphins. Chris o'lave is on this list
at wide receiver, Mark Andrews the tight end for the
Baltimore Ravens, number six, number five, Jacobe Myers, number four,
Rick Woohlan corner for Seattle. Number three, Reese Hall of

(01:56:15):
the New York Jets, a player that I am a
little concerned about on Sunday, Number two Jalen Waddle, and
number one Trey Hendrickson. Trey Hendrickson would be far and
away the most attractive trade target if the Bengals entertained
a deal now.

Speaker 3 (01:56:34):
As of right now, the Bengals don't have plans to
trade Trey Hendrickson, but there would be teams lining up
with interest for Trey Hendrickson. And this why Austin is
I think the next two are important. If you're four
and five or shoot three and six at the deadline,
what's the point of holding on to Trey Hendrickson.

Speaker 2 (01:56:52):
Correct.

Speaker 3 (01:56:53):
Now, if you're five and four, no way you're giving
up on Trey Hendrickson. But if you are under five
hundreds where I'm at, If you're under five hundred the deadline,
what is the benefit of holding on to Trey Hendrickson?

Speaker 2 (01:57:05):
Correct? Yeah? I mean if you lose the next two
and you go to that bye week at three and six,
your season is basically over. Now, you still have all
those AFC North games ahead of you. I see that,
But I think at the minimum it's going to take
ten wins to get in, So you would have to
go seven and one over those last eight games to

(01:57:29):
get into the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (01:57:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:57:30):
I don't see that happening yet. They are to lose
the next two, which means you have to shift almost
immediately to how can we get this team ready for
next year? So start evaluating, you start playing young players
more than they already have been, and you start acquiring
draft picks, and you would start by getting Trey Hendrickson
off the books and get whatever return you can get

(01:57:52):
for him.

Speaker 3 (01:57:52):
Would that change your thought on Logan Wilson two? If
they're four and five at the deadline.

Speaker 2 (01:57:56):
Yeah, yeah, I mean it's all all of it is
as we talked about yesterday, with the aggressive or non aggressive,
all of it's predicated on if you win games without
a doubt. Yeah, I mean clear, I can't imagine Logan
Wilson's a big part of the plan next year. I
don't know that the Bengals are looking at next year
thinking Trey is going to be here, right, I don't
know that they're looking at next year thinking Cam Taylor

(01:58:19):
Bridt's going to be here. So that's the reason those
three guys are on that list. And for two out
of the three, I'd remove Camp Taylor Bridge just because
of just the doghouse that he's in. But for two
of those three, it really is predicated on whether or
not they win games. Correct, Let's take a break. When
we come back, we'll grab a phone callar too. Well,

(01:58:41):
look at some other NFL news, and we've got quick
hits coming up as well. ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Thanks to our friends at Penn Station.

Speaker 22 (01:58:52):
Wise since since the three sixty continues on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati's Sports Station.

Speaker 3 (01:59:01):
Welcome back. It's our three of three since he three sixty.
Thanks to Penn Station, we got a few minutes for
a couple of phone calls here Austin, I understand that
we have a phone call on hold right now. That's
not just one person waiting on hold, but two.

Speaker 2 (01:59:14):
That's what I'm told our friend Greg and Sharonville alongside
his lovely wife, Greg and the missus. What's up?

Speaker 4 (01:59:23):
How's it going?

Speaker 42 (01:59:24):
Hey, I'm just glad to be talking to you. I
said all I had to say yesterday about you guys
on the talkback. Dis glad you guys are back together. Hey,
this is kind of my annual. I can't stand notre
dame call to I had to get this in.

Speaker 7 (01:59:40):
Here.

Speaker 42 (01:59:40):
They are their favorite in every game except the Miami game.
They lose that, yep, they lose the A and M
at home, they hung fifty on some dummies of two
or three weeks in the row whatever, and then you
know I'm hearing you know, on on.

Speaker 13 (01:59:55):
The radio or whatever.

Speaker 42 (01:59:56):
Oh well, you know, if they can just win out yep,
in well, sure they're going to be in. They don't
play anybody.

Speaker 3 (02:00:02):
Boston College, Navy, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Stanford. They should went out
by double digits in every one of those games.

Speaker 42 (02:00:09):
But but you know the thing you know my dad,
he was a big Notre Dame Fanny.

Speaker 4 (02:00:13):
No he didn't.

Speaker 7 (02:00:14):
You know, we always argue.

Speaker 42 (02:00:15):
I was talking about the week schedule, hand pick schedule.

Speaker 13 (02:00:18):
But you know the thing is they.

Speaker 42 (02:00:20):
Don't they won't play in a conference so they don't
have to play a conference championship game. And you know myself,
but you know it's the rules. They can get in,
they can, you know, get in any way you can
get in, but anyway, I think it's stakes. So anyway, uh,
my wife, Julia.

Speaker 4 (02:00:38):
I would like to say a couple of words.

Speaker 13 (02:00:40):
Sure by Austin. Oh, I'm sorry, Tommy.

Speaker 55 (02:00:45):
First night streaking with both of you.

Speaker 54 (02:00:47):
Yes, I just want to comment on Austin's telling this
story about going to Green Bay and touring through the
Yeah stadium. I just found that so interesting. I'm kind
of a football fan, but only for high school kids. Okay,
so hear that story. It's just kind of see. I

(02:01:08):
like to go there, even though I'm not that familiar
with the team. So I just wanted to tell you
that was that was so enlightening it and I almost
felt like I was right there as you went through
all the parts of the stadium.

Speaker 2 (02:01:21):
Oh well, that's that's very nice. Thank you. And yeah,
even any type of football fan, high school or anything
else would just love it. And actually inside that atrium
there they have like the Wisconsin High School Football College
high School Football Coaches Hall of Fame as well. So yeah,
it's really really neat. Thank you.

Speaker 55 (02:01:41):
Yeah. So anyway, so I always enjoy hearing the stories
that Greg tells me after I get that from my
shopping anyway, So I'm glad you guys are back.

Speaker 2 (02:01:55):
Oh, thank you, thank you. We appreciate both of you guys.
Thanks for calling, all right, see you guys. See that's awesome.
I think that's a first that is. I love it.
That's fantastic. Good for Greg and Julia. She must be
shopping a lot, no kidding, what a what a world?

(02:02:16):
I love this, Mike, what's going on?

Speaker 17 (02:02:20):
Hey, fellas, I hope you're doing well. I was just
stunned at how wonderful that opening game was in the
NBA last night with Houston and Okay, see that was
incredibly good.

Speaker 3 (02:02:33):
Yeah, I mean it's it's tough when you start a
season like that because the the view is that, Okay,
this is gonna be a big year. Puts a lot
of pressure on all the other games as well.

Speaker 17 (02:02:43):
Yeah, it really does. I didn't make it for the
Lakers game. I saw the score, but the Golden State
whipped in. I wonder if Steph went off last night.

Speaker 3 (02:02:51):
No, he only had twenty three points. Luca went off,
but Steph did. Jimmy Butler and Kaminga had a huge night.
I got asked today on on social media, Mike. If
Mike calls, can you ask him if the home dog
strategy is also a go in the NBA as well?

Speaker 2 (02:03:07):
Or is it strictly baseball?

Speaker 17 (02:03:09):
Absolutely not the NBA on the baseball and baseball only.

Speaker 2 (02:03:13):
Okay, there we go.

Speaker 44 (02:03:15):
Yep.

Speaker 17 (02:03:16):
Yeah, I tried Horrison around with that. A big mistake, big,
big miss. I should have listened to the old man
that told me. He said, stick, I gave you a system.
Stick to the system. Don't dev eight and you will
do well. Naturally, I had the DEV eight. I think
I know everything and I don't know crap obviously. Anyway, Hey, did.

Speaker 12 (02:03:36):
You know that?

Speaker 16 (02:03:38):
So?

Speaker 17 (02:03:38):
I heard Jaydon Daniels is out for this game, Mario
going to start. McLaurin and Deebo are back. I think
they said.

Speaker 3 (02:03:50):
Deebos handles Austin mentioned earlier that Mariota has won a
playoff game at Arrowhead Stadium before, so he is a
He is a very good backup. There's a reason they
pay him to be the backup in Washington. You hope
it's nothing long term for Jaydon Daniels, he has felt
like his season hasn't even begun to get off the
the mat yet because of the injuries he's had. But

(02:04:12):
at the same time, I think Mariota is a dangerous
player when when given the full complement of weapons.

Speaker 17 (02:04:18):
And he is the pride of Honolulu, Hawaii. He was
a huge high school.

Speaker 5 (02:04:26):
Too.

Speaker 17 (02:04:28):
Hey, I got something to run by with this Jets game.
Well before I get to that, real quick.

Speaker 2 (02:04:33):
Got thirty seconds?

Speaker 17 (02:04:35):
Okay. The three top rank defense is overall based on
yards allowed totally yards allowed.

Speaker 2 (02:04:42):
I would say the culture out there, well.

Speaker 17 (02:04:45):
The first three or the Browns, the Falcons, and the
Houston Texans. The Browns are giving up two hundred and
fifty six per game Atlanta to sixty five Denver three
at two seventy three, used to at two seventy four.
They rate the Browns defensive line as the best defense

(02:05:07):
line in the in the NFL, and uh hold on,
I got this one other set I wanted to share
with you this. I know, I got about eight second clip. Now, Okay,
hold on, I get frustrated a heck. Anyway, I was
gonna say the Jets defense the total defense in ratings

(02:05:28):
for passing and rushing defense, they're ranked sixteen.

Speaker 2 (02:05:33):
Yep, right in the metal Bengals.

Speaker 17 (02:05:35):
Are ranked thirty first. This does not bode well.

Speaker 3 (02:05:38):
Yeah, Mike, I appreciate the call man. Thank you the Bengals.
If you can't beat the seven Jets, we got bigger problems.

Speaker 2 (02:05:46):
But it is.

Speaker 3 (02:05:47):
I think it's more challenging than than maybe what the
O and seven record leads to. We got to get
a break. Quick Hits next finish up today's show on
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station from.

Speaker 22 (02:05:56):
It's time for since the three sixty Quick Hits ones.

Speaker 2 (02:06:02):
Mo's getting ready for a show. We don't have him
for Quick Kits today. He's probably somewhere two days in
a row. Yeah, looks, listen the Knicks play tonight. You
can't help, but you know he still works here, right
he does.

Speaker 3 (02:06:13):
Okay, his show is coming up in just a few minutes.
Right here in the centred seat, that I'm sitting in
right now. Okay, the Muleger Show on ESPN fifteen thirty
is coming up next. Now it's a big day obviously
because Moe's Knicks start tonight, right. I wasn't aware, Austin.

Speaker 2 (02:06:26):
I'm a big Knicks fan. Tonight, I wasn't aware there
it is. I wasn't aware that the Knicks are one
of like the favorites in the East this year. Oh yeah,
they had a good offseason and obviously there was talk
about them potentially getting Yannis from the Bucks as one
of those teams, but they would have to give up
all of what makes their team good and deep to

(02:06:46):
get Yannis. Mo would obviously know more. But yeah, I
mean so obviously that it doesn't hurt them that Tatum's
out for the year for the Celtics, right, Halliburton is
out for the Pacers. Sure, Kobe White's down for the
first to White Chicago. So who else in the East
is is a threat the Milwaukee Bucks, I guess, but

(02:07:10):
not really the Caves. The Caves had a good year
last year. There has not been a lot of talk
about the Heat, but I do think Cleveland's one of
those teams. Okay, what about the Charlotte Hornets. I don't
know that I could name a hornet, to be honest
with you. Kem is Uh is one of the ball
brothers still there. I think he's there. Is Kemba Backer,
No Kimba Walker. I don't know if you're joking or not,

(02:07:32):
because I legit don't know anything about the Hornets. I
don't think he's there anymore. I am the most casual
NBA fan, Like I watched most of last night as
we talked about, but like you know, I'm not really
following along the league transactions. I like to tune in
and be like, oh that guy.

Speaker 3 (02:07:49):
We we did talk about it the ring ceremony last night,
as we mentioned earlier. Thankfully, finally someone has realized make
these big extravagant rings, but also anna ring inside of
the ring that you can wear on a normal basis,
that you.

Speaker 2 (02:08:02):
Can actually wear. I know Dan Patrick has been talking
about this for a long time, and it just makes
a lot of sense to have something because we've seen
it to the point where some guys just put the
ring on a chain because you can't wear it on
your hand, and maybe you turn into the incredible stuff
like our guy Joe Walter. He wears his AFC Championship

(02:08:23):
ring just about every single day, as he should, and yeah,
as he should. And obviously it's not a super Bowl ring.
But even if he had gotten a super Bowl ring
back then, it wasn't big and bulky in this whole
big thing. Like part of the whole idea is that
it's something you can wear and you know, show off
a little bit. You know, when I was at the

(02:08:44):
Packers Hall of Fame the other week, they had all
these different awards that and basically pieces of jewelry that
used to be the reward for winning an MVP or
winning the NFL Championship. Like they had all these old
watches from Bart Starr watches and like necklaces, like trinkets
and rings from Vince Lombardi's collection. Yeah, and it's amazing

(02:09:07):
to see how much it's changed from this little thing
to that ginormous thing that is championship rings. What did
you make? I know one of the things you were
looking forward to last night was Michael Jordan. Yeah, and
to sit down with Mike Terriico. And there's obviously going
to be more of these. I love the quote of
that he wished he could take the magic pill, put
the shorts on, and go out and play the game,
because that's who he is, the competitiveness to greatness. But

(02:09:31):
I also found it fascinating that he's just not picked
up a ball in quite some time. Yeah, Like Tarico
was like, come on, when's the last time, And He's like, well,
you're here. Do you see a hoop anywhere?

Speaker 5 (02:09:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:09:41):
He said he was at the Ryder Cup this past
year in the house that he rented out had a
basketball hoop and the guy that he rented it from
had like his grandkids or some kids over. Yeah, he
said he kind of got put on the spot, and
he said was the most nervous he's been in a
long time.

Speaker 2 (02:09:55):
My question would be in that conversation, who did you
rent the house from? And who does he think he
is that he can ask Michael correct or basically tell
Michael Jordan. But I get to because I'm sure Jordan's
paying really nicely to stay at this guy's house. And
that's what Jordan said. Let's He's like, I wasn't getting
the place for free. He said, You've already brought your
grandkids over to meet him and take pictures with him.

(02:10:17):
Who do you think you are to put Michael Jordan
on the spot to ask him to shoot a basketball?

Speaker 3 (02:10:22):
But I loved the most his response of I was
so nervous because those kids have been told stories about
Michael Jordan and so they don't view him as the
older guy.

Speaker 2 (02:10:32):
Now they view him as the goat. He said he
made the free throw. Of course, I thought it was cool.
I saw a tweet from Colin Keene, who is a
rights for Sports Illustrated and Fan Sided and stuff, and
he said mj was nervous he'd missed that free throw
and a bunch of in front of a bunch of
kids that had never seen him play, and that it's

(02:10:53):
the humility that has always driven Jordan. Yeah, you know,
once being undervalue, the desire to prove himself. Very few
stars have this now everyone's coddled from a young age.
This is Colin Keane's words in the AAU era lebron
has quote nothing left to prove for years. He said
that in his own words, Curry has the humility, Brady

(02:11:16):
has the humility, Jordan has it. It's in most of
the greats. I thought that was a cool human moment
from Michael Jeffrey Jordan. I hope, by the way, that
it's more than just one sit down that they do
snippets of.

Speaker 3 (02:11:28):
They already tease the next one of him talking about
load management and why it was important to him to
play every game.

Speaker 2 (02:11:34):
Yeah, who you think that's a shot at probably half
the league.

Speaker 3 (02:11:37):
Yep, He's the line I liked the most last night
was the drive and the fire to compete is what
he lives for and that's what he misses.

Speaker 2 (02:11:47):
He also talked about in the open about the contention
that you could feel on the court, the competitiveness between
his era and the era now. And I think that's true,
Like it's there are a lot of buddy but friendship
type of stuff in the league these days, and I
do like I like that to an extent, but also
wish it was a little bit more contentious those years, man,

(02:12:09):
where there was just genuine hate.

Speaker 5 (02:12:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:12:11):
They we've talked about this before in sports. Yeah, that
hate and that fire makes it even better because you
can sense that on the field, like man on the
court or on the field, these these teams or these
players hate each other.

Speaker 2 (02:12:25):
And they asked Steph Curry, you know what were his
memories from the nineties, back when the NBA was on
NBC the first time, and he said the rivalries like
that era of basketball and those type of rivalries. By
the way, Nix, we were talking about that load management. How
about Mitchell Robinson and Josh Hart both missing tonight's season
opener due to load management? What I think there's already

(02:12:48):
load management the first game of the year. Or excuse me,
Mitchell Robinson not playing due to load management? Josh Hart
has a back injury. How can you do load management
the first game of the year. Apparently they practiced too
hard in training camp. Well, Fibbs is out, Mitchell Robinson
load management game one. If I'm Adam Silver, I'm picking

(02:13:08):
up the phone, like, hey, what are we doing? Who's
the coach of the Knicks? Don Staley? Who is it?
I actually don't know who the coach of the Knicks is.
I don't think it's Don Staley. They interviewed her.

Speaker 3 (02:13:20):
They they just went and got like another coach that's
been around for years. Mike Brown's the coach. Oh okay,
like mo just walked in. Most, Yeah, we got another
minute or two here Most here. You're all right, Oh,
you're excited. The Knicks play tonight.

Speaker 2 (02:13:34):
I can't wait Robinson out with load managed.

Speaker 3 (02:13:38):
He's he's not even have his headphones going on here today.
Mitchell Robinson is out tonight due to load management game one?
How can you be out game one due to load management?

Speaker 27 (02:13:47):
So this is the strategy. So what did everybody say
about Tibbs just runs his starters into the ground right,
not ready for the postseason, even though they were two
wins away from the NBA Finals. So the strategy this
year is not play any players who matter. Sneak in
as the ten seed in the play in very Cincinnati.
Read sort of strategy we're going to employ here. See
the Bulls just get in, Yeah, and then let Jalen

(02:14:10):
Brunson and Mitchell Robinson and company take over.

Speaker 2 (02:14:12):
Before you take over here, what have you got on
your show today?

Speaker 27 (02:14:15):
We're gonna go to Kansas City, Oh big, twelve media days. Yes,
Scott Springer is gonna join us, Love it. Danny Canell
is going to be on the show.

Speaker 2 (02:14:21):
Nice. I think we.

Speaker 27 (02:14:24):
Have Chris Albright today GMFC Cincinnati, which I promised yesterday
and screwed up because I can't read an email. We'll
hear Joe Flacco.

Speaker 2 (02:14:32):
Yeah, I like that guy. You know, Austin came up
with an idea because we'd never got Locks of the
Night sponsored. How about Jocks of the Night.

Speaker 3 (02:14:38):
Oh, is there a player in the association tonight that
you're looking forward to watching the most?

Speaker 37 (02:14:44):
For me?

Speaker 2 (02:14:46):

Speaker 27 (02:14:48):

Speaker 2 (02:14:50):

Speaker 27 (02:14:53):

Speaker 2 (02:15:00):
Is awesome to watch. Yeah.

Speaker 27 (02:15:03):

Speaker 2 (02:15:04):
Okay, you're allowed. It's Jocks of the Night. Jackson the
Night doesn't anything Jocks of the Night like that. I've
been sitting on that one.

Speaker 27 (02:15:11):

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
