Sincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored in part
by Skyline Chili. Stop by Skyline Chili for a three
way or cheese cony today.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Feeling good, It's Skyline time.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Good afternoon, Happy Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (00:25):
It's the latest edition now of Cincy three sixty on
the home of the Bengals. ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Thanks to our friends at Skyline Chili. Thank you for
joining us this afternoon, and uh be a part of
the show today please five, one, three, seven, four, nine.
Fifteen thirty will take calls all afternoon, except for a

(00:46):
couple different times. One o'clock Wednesday afternoons the latest Zach
Taylor press conference. Uh we run it as it's happening
at Pai Corpse Stadium, So we'll hear from Zach Taylor
today at one with when Mulleggar takes over. Later this
after our noon's Joe Burrow is scheduled to speak, so
we'll see what Joe Burrow has to say later this afternoon.
Chad Brendle will join us at two o'clock today. Normally

(01:10):
we get with Keegan nikoson on Thursdays, but there is
a lot of Bearcat conversation happening. I'm also off tomorrow,
so wanted to get a UC dynamic leading into the
game against Alabama State tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Why Gigsel James is back Austin Tournament.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Back on Gigsel James back for the Bearcats. It is
said that Jizzle will play tonight. My only question Austin,
when March Madness rolls around, will the committee throw away
the losses that the Bearcats have had without Gigsel on
the roster because they'll be a completely different team.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
I mean, it's the only logical approach to a true
evaluation of the Bearcat basketball team. Thank you, thank you.
I don't know what to make of it. I I mean,
we've heard rumblings about this for a while now, Yeah,
and it was kind of unclear what was actually ever
going to happen, and now it's it's culminated in this

(02:11):
and I've seen a lot of Bearcat fans the immediate
reaction saying, desperate times call for desperate measures. Yeah, I mean,
obviously whatever was going on in Gisel's personal life, it's
great news that he's sure gotten back to the point
where he's able to rejoin the basketball team, and I
think we're all happy about that, but how much does
this actually change things for them?

Speaker 4 (02:32):
I mean, we've we've had stuff, Austin. I think Chad
Breundle was in one day for MO and I asked
Chad about Gigzl. He said, look, Gigsel's not going to
play this year. Chad is as connected to the program
as you'll find. Something has had to change, and again,
I think there is a desperation feel to it. We'll
talk to Chad about that this afternoon. But regardless of

(02:53):
any of that and what you feel of Gigsel playing
or not playing, I do think Austin the underlying thing
here here was a guy that had some serious issues
on going off the court and has at least got
those in order enough that they feel confident in bringing
them back. That, at least to that extent, is a
good thing. Louisville basketball fell last night by twenty one

(03:14):
points at Tennessee. That is their biggest loss of the season.
Louisville scheduled very hard, but a loss for the Louisville
Cardinals last night the Dolphins. Austin, how about this, how
about what the Dolphins did today. They cut Matthew Judon.
They moved on from one of their edge rushers, Matthew Judon.

(03:35):
That is not the craziest thing that the Dolphins have
done today. They also benched Tua Tongue of Ioloa. Yes,
Quinn Ores will now be the starter for the Dolphins
when they host the Bengals on Sunday. Let's just start

(03:56):
with that alone, Austin, Let's start with Quinnoers. This should
play into the favor of the Cincinnati Bengals very clearly.
Should should play into the favor of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Will it play in the favor of the Cincinnati Bengals

(04:17):
impossible to tell.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
With this defense. I mean, there's just no way to
know for sure if they're actually going to show up.
But friend of the Show Jay Morrison, as you know,
he's great at stats like this, and he looked it up.
The Bengals have faced a quarterback making their NFL debut
starting debut twenty two times previously. In those twenty two games,

(04:44):
the Bengals are fourteen and eight. Oh boy, So historically,
you know, it's it's pretty good. It's not as it's
not twenty two and zero, But it's pretty good. Miami
is obviously at a transitional period for their franchise right now,
now that they've officially been eliminated from the playoffs, and

(05:06):
with Tua being sat down and Matthew Judon being let go,
I'm curious to see what they look like on Sunday
against the Bengals. The last time the Bengals faced a
quarterback starting their NFL debut, it was Anthony Brown Week
eighteen of twenty twenty two for the Baltimore Ravens. You

(05:26):
might remember that was like the coin flip game, sure,
right after the deamorw Hamlin situation. In that game, Anthony
Brown was nineteen of forty four, two hundred and eighty
six yards, no touchdowns, two picks, and the Bengals sacked
him four times. And the last time before that, your
buddy Mike White with the New York Jets. We all
know how that went. Wow. Okay.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
By the way, the Matthew Judon news Austin, he had
played in thirteen games this year yet to register a
sack for the Miami Dolphins. Financially, what does this mean
for the Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Well, Tua is under contracts for the foreseeable future. He's
already got I think well over fifty million dollars in
guaranteed money next year for Miami. Let me see if
I can, if I have the cofing, he has fifty
four million dollars guaranteed to him next year.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
So next season he's already fifty four million. This coming
March March fifteenth, three million of his twenty twenty seven
salary becomes guaranteed. So cutting him would leave ninety nine
million dollars in dead money for the Miami Dolphins. If
they were to cut him after June first, it would

(06:46):
equal out to sixty seven point four million in dead
money in twenty twenty six, thirty one point eight million
in dead money in twenty twenty seven. We saw most recently,
the last team to do this was the Denver Broncos
when they moved on from Russell Wilson and had a
ton of dead money on their salary cap. They obviously

(07:06):
used their first round pick on bow Nicks and have
built that defense. So it's I have a hard time
believing that Tua won't be the quarterback next year for Miami. Yeah,
but I think they're in this situation where trying to
figure out who they are and if Mike McDaniel is
going to stay, and they got a new GM and
all this other stuff. So just so much money, so

(07:29):
much money into Tua. The Bengals are now four and
a half point favorites after this news. Now. Originally, when
the line came out Sunday night, Miami was favored by
a point and a half. Yep, they played so poorly
on Monday night in Pittsburgh that it jumped to the
Bengals by a point and a half. And now with
the news of Tua getting benched, it's crazy half in
favor of the Bengals.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
For me, I think I would have rather seen Tua.
I agree, I would rather go against the known and
what Tua is than the unknown.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Every Bengals fan had the same thought when they saw
that news today. Yep, here we go again. Do this
a week fourteen and eight. That still is not what
you want? Like you would rather be like twenty and two.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
No, we'll talk more about what this means for the
game coming up here now were number one, shout out Austin.
I can't imagine our guy who will talk to a
two forty five today, Moagger today, oh man, Uh, Moe's
New York Knicks won the NBA Cup last night over
the Spurs, and then Mo wakes up today and Gisel
James is back.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Yeah, what you would talk about? What a span from
a roller coaster from what happened with the Bengals to
where he's at now. Unbelievable and cloud nine unbelievable. First
championship for the Knicks since nineteen seventy three. Oh Spike
Lee was in attendance to I am hearing now though
that they won't be raising a banner really, which is
kind of disappointing. Yeah, very very disappointing.

Speaker 5 (08:51):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
We will talk more the NFL weekends late coming up today. Also, Austin,
the Reds have made a move, Yes, they have now
all off season Austin. What have we talked about? Will
the Reds sign a hometown hero? Will they sign an
Ohio native who could bring championships to this organization? And

(09:15):
while many thought that that dream may have died last week,
the Reds might be back.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
Austin.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
They have signed left handed pitcher Caleb Ferguson. Let's go
Ferguson to the Reds.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Nice.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
He is an Ohio native Columbus, Columbus native with the
West Jefferson High School. That right there, Austin will probably
put fans in the stands at Great American Ballpark is
school today are ninety nine days away from opening day.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Caleb Ferguson last year appeared in seventy games with the
Pirates and the Mariners. Pitch pretty good for the Mariners.
He had a three point five to eight earned run average,
fifty one strikeouts over sixty five, and a third inn.
If I'm not mistaken, he gave up just two home runs.
I would have to double check that. I think I
saw our guy Jeff Carr say that. So not a
guy who's given up the long ball very often. Listen,

(10:11):
left handed matchup pitcher is what they needed in this bullpen.
Francona talked about that a little bit with you know,
Brent Suiter wasn't necessarily that guy. And Lord knows Taylor
Rogers didn't work out for this team last year. Sam
Mall was injured for most of it. So Sam Mall's
coming back, we know that they re signed him. I'm
curious to see what he looks like in spring training.

(10:33):
Now you've got a guy in Caleb Ferguson, who keep
in mind, the Reds hired the former Pirates pitching coach
this offseason to be a part of their major league
pitching staff, so there's clearly some familiarity there with him
and Caleb Ferguson. So we'll see if that works out
for the Rets. Last year, held a left handed batters
to one eighty four. That's pretty good. That ain't bad.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
He was using a multiple multitude of roles for the Pirates.
Middle reliever, specialist, will leverage arm for different points of
the season. Big fastball guy, but Austin. He also has
a slurve that's between a slider and a curve ball
that held hitters to two oh eight last year.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
He did I'm fascinated by.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
He did make three appearances in the postseason with the Mariners.
He allowed five runs in two and two thirds in needs.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Okay, so maybe, well, you know Caleb Ferguson across the
playoff bridge, when were the hometown kid. Good for him,
good for him, good for the Reds. Now Here's the
other thing. The PI the Padres. They just hired Craig
Stamman to be their manager, and he is an Ohio guy.
He's from like Versailles. Do you think the next manager

(11:41):
of the Reds is Craig Stammon, so that you know,
whenever Francona's done and he's not going to manage forever, obviously,
probably maybe get some seats, some butts in the seats,
get the manager. What are the seats for? I mean,
I'm sure that the seats are for the seats, according
to Pete Rose, God bless him, are for asses. Yes,

(12:02):
I don't know if I have that. I used to
play that all the time. I don't know I do.
I mean, obviously we know how good the seats were
when David Bell was the man ticket prices, for sure.
Thank you, Pete, Thank you Pete. So we've got a
multitude of things just to play these clips all the time.
I got to get back to this. You know, we've
got a multitude of things to get to today again,

(12:24):
including the NFL week ahead.

Speaker 4 (12:25):
I thought it'd be a good time today because the
chemistry they start back up Austin. How about we play
ball or no ball? Oh yeah, today, let's go. Well,
I'll throw some names out. You tell me earlier on
one I did that. I was like gotta be I
was like wait, what it's got to be?

Speaker 3 (12:43):
That's real?

Speaker 6 (12:43):
Right?

Speaker 3 (12:43):
No, it's not Bowl season, man ball or.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
No ball with Bowl games starting back up tonight. I
don't know if there's anything else though we have here
uh in segment number one, as I mentioned Zach Taylor
at one o'clock, Chad Brendle A two A fury of
your phone calls five one three seven four nine, fifteen thirty.
And what this move will do, what it means with

(13:10):
the Dolphins benching Tua and cutting Matthew Judaan ahead of
the matchup against the Bengals on Sunday. We'll take our
first break when we come back. We'll dive into that
and then we'll get to your phone calls as well.
Five one three seven four nine, fifteen thirty. This is
Sincy three sixty. Thanks to our friends at Skyline, Chilean.
Thank you for listening to ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
Hey Alexa, this is Football in the Natti, brought to
you by Hey during Window Company on ESPN fifteen thirty,
the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
All right, let's do it. Let's do a little Football
in the Natti. Let's break down a little bit of
this game on Sunday afternoon, Austin. I also thought maybe
an hour number three be because I'm not in tomorrow,
we could do a little read and react.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Perhaps we'll see read it react.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
Before I get to this, I saw last night via
your social media you had, uh you tuned in for
Hard Knocks. Anything happened of note in Hard Knocks last night?

Speaker 3 (14:12):
No very boring episode of Hard Knocks. I did think,
you know that the parts that were interesting were the
league's reaction or those four teams reaction to Philip Rivers
coming back. I thought that was kind of interesting Lane
Johnson and him rehabbing that Liz Frank injury that he's

(14:33):
dealing with, and just all the work that kind of
goes into it. But no, it was a it was
a relatively boring episode, to be completely honest. I mean,
there's three teams there that are really kind of playing
out to string, yeah, and the Eagles who are just
trying to get back to themselves.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
If you could rank the Hard Knock additions where you
obviously have the training camp, there was the off season,
there's the end season. What do you enjoy the most?

Speaker 3 (15:01):
I always love the training camp version. I did think
last last year's was interesting because the Bengals were making
a push. Baltimore was there. The the in season version
I think is interesting. Uh. I really loved the off
season version with the Giants. Giants, Giants, they showed way

(15:21):
too much, showed way too much. It's never going to
happen again because of that, but I thought that was
really cool, Like that was a great look into what
an NFL operation is like in the off season, and
I really liked it. Sunday the Cincinnati Bengals. I want
to interrupt and say this two things actually. Number One,
if you like that type of thing, almost every team

(15:45):
has their own in house version of that, both in
the off season and in the regular season on like
their YouTube channels and all that. It's it's awesome. I
watched the Patriots all the time, I watched the Jags
like it's all really really interesting stuff. And then finally,
I know this is football in the Natty. But we
failed to give a shout out in the first segment

(16:07):
to the Miami RedHawks basketball. Yes eleven and H eleven
and zer they've received top twenty five votes. They beat
who they beat right State last night took it to
the Right State Raiders in the nuthouse last night, and
here come Travis Steel. Yeah, in the Miami RedHawks at
eleven and oh, channeling their inner Wally Zerbiak, here they come. Yeah,

(16:27):
shout out to Travis Steel in RedHawks eleven and zer
is a big, big deal. Now do you think that
the Bearcats will pick up the phone for Travis Steele
after this season? Well, it depends how the Gigsel James
experiment goes. Of course. You know, we'll see what happens there.
And it is an experiment. It is an experiment.

Speaker 4 (16:47):
Let's talk about the matchup a little bit on Sunday,
because I don't think no, not having Matthew Judon makes
a big difference.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
He's not registered a sack this year in thirteen games.
The Dolphins have moved on from Matthew Judon. They have
moved on from Tua Tongue Vailoa.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
Now offensively, with Tua as the quarterback, it wasn't like
this Dolphins passing attack was dominant. They were ranked twenty six,
twenty seventh in the NFL at just one hundred and
eighty one passing yards per game. What I do think
this does and I think multiple reasons. Darren Waller is
having a little bit of a career resurgence since since

(17:26):
rejoining the Dolphins at two touchdowns last week. He's been
pretty solid throughout the season when he's been healthy. So
you look at tight end play and then you think
of running back and Austin. Are we sleeping on was
it a chain out of Miami?

Speaker 3 (17:43):
I don't know anybody that's sleeping on him. He's one
of the best running backs in the league.

Speaker 4 (17:46):
I mean, he has been fantastic. Now that offense as
a whole in Miami only rushes it for one hundred
and twenty two yards per game. I didn't realize Austin
the Reds or the Bengals are still thirty first in
the league at seven yards per game. That surprised me
because I thought the running game had turned a little
bit of the quarter.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
It did, It had a stretch of that, and in
the last two weeks it's completely, you know, falling back off.
So I don't know exactly what the reason for that is.
Does that tie into Joe Burrow at all? Maybe, But
I mean in that first game, obviously they threw the
ball like fifty times. When Burrow came back, But I
thought they ran it pretty well against Baltimore on Thanksgiving Night.

(18:28):
I thought, I mean, what, they ran it thirty times
against Baltimore just the other day, and just it's not
there as efficiently as it was previously. So I'm not
sure exactly what the reason is for that. Maybe it's
as simple as Dalton Reisner is just not as good
of a run blocker, maybe as Jalen Rivers is. I
don't know. Yeah, but yeah.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
How worrisome is Devin a Chain in this game on Sunday.
He is third in the NFL at eleven and eighty
six rushing yards. He also leads outside of Jahar Jordan
for Houston, who's only ran the ball fifteen times this year.
A Chan has the highest average of yards per carry
in the league. Every rush attempts, he makes five point

(19:12):
eight yards per carry. He is also a threat in
the passing game as well for the Miami Dolphins. He
is electric in the open field. He is a matchup problem,
and I would say Austin the number one thing the
Bengals will have to contend with. Especially when you think

(19:33):
about a quarterback making his first start, what do you
immediately think of check downs? Easy completions. A Chan gives
you all of that. The Bengals are going to have
to do a very good job of not only identifying
where he's at, but making tackles when the opportunity presents
himself because he is so dynamic after the catch.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
Yeah, I mean, a Chan has elite speed, incredible quickness,
gets to the edge very very quickly. And what I
think is probably the most difficult thing to deal with
if you're the Bengals defense is just the various motions
and movement and pulling guards and counters and just getting

(20:12):
guys out in space on the edge that Miami does.
And is it gonna be a little bit different without
Toua Yeah, probably, But their offense is built around their
ability to run the ball and specifically to get it
out on the edge and get their players in space.
And that's where the Bengals have struggled all season long.
So I would expect to, as you mentioned, Darren Waller,

(20:36):
be a big part of the game and big part
of the game plan. Play action under center stuff, get
those linebackers confused. Just like every other team is teed
off against the Bengals linebackers. Here's what's interesting too about
you know, Devin h Chan, he's got eleven hundred yards.
The next closest running back is Ali Gordon with one
hundred and ninety one, and he got a little bit
banged up against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Those guys have both

(20:58):
played in fourteen games for Miami this year, so it's
really all Devin h Chan in the run game. So yeah,
I mean it starts and stops with them offensively. I mean,
Jalen Waddles is having a fine seasons, nothing special, but yeah,
I mean you mentioned it. Eight Chance their second leading
receiver and has well over fifteen hundred yards on purpose.

(21:20):
It's crazy.

Speaker 4 (21:20):
He's their second leading receiver Austin, but he is their
leading receiver when it comes to receptions sixty one catches
on the year. They use him again in a multitude
of ways. You're going to have to stop him now
on the other side of the ball. You know, it's
not like, by the way, another thing that's warysome Bengals
dead last in the NFL and rushing yards given up

(21:42):
per game at one fifty seven point nine. Those two
things don't bode well for the matchup on Sunday. But
this Dolphins team Austin is twenty seventh in the league.
They give up one hundred and thirty six on the
ground per game, so there are some openings. One would
think when it comes to the Miami Dolphins and their
defense that maybe will exploit the use of Chase Brown

(22:04):
or some ajp Ryn with the Bengals offense. Again, this
is just a loose look at this matchup as this
news comes down about the Dolphins benching Tua. But it's
a team in Miami that's susceptible to the run game,
and it's a team in Miami that's gonna rely heavily
on their run game on Sunday as well.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
I think when you picture this game, I think you
kind of got to go back to the Bengals Thanksgiving
night game against Baltimore. I think it's kind of a
similar matchup and the Bengals have to get back to
that as the way that they play now. Obviously, Burrow
through the ball too many times in the first half,
but they controlled the clock, They were efficient, They were

(22:41):
effective on early downs, especially running the football. They were
able to go under center, play action, move the pocket,
easy completions, not asking Burrow to do a ton of
stuff at the line of scrimmage, not asking the offensive
line to do a ton of stuff at the line
of scrimmage. That's the type of game plan that I
think they have to get back to if they want
to be successful against the Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
It it should be a fascinating matchup for many reasons.
We'll look ahead to the rest of the NFL weekend Ahead.
More Bengals topics and your phone calls next five one, three, seven, four, nine,
fifteen thirty Cincy three sixty. Thanks to our friends at
Skyline Chile.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
You've been listening to football in the NATI on ESPN

For ten years. Family Sitting.

Cincinnati Sports Station. Thanks for listening. Thank you to our

I can assure you it's always Skyline time. And if

any type of gift. Everyone in your life would love
a Skyline Chili gift card. And while you're there, you
can eat some Skyline yourself. It is unbelievable. We think
Skyline Chili for everything. Here in our number one big

(24:22):
news out of the UFL.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
Uh oh, the Columbus Aviators have named Ted Gin Junior
wow head coach.

Speaker 5 (24:31):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
Did you know that the UFL still existed? Because I didn't.
I did not.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
Now I know his father is a very successful high
school coach in Cincinnati. Yes, just for one another state
titapion ship up there in Cleveland. Yeah, okay, Ted Gin
Junior the Columbus Aviators head coach.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
Okay, who else has no idea that that was the
thing until I just saw a tweet. Now I have
to look up the Columbus Aviators. Yeah, they have five
thousand followers on Twitter. They play their games at the
Old Crew Stadium, okay, which is also known as I
think Matt Free Stadium, but introducing like okay, so this

(25:13):
is the twenty twenty six years their first year, I
guess Okay, didn't they move a bunch of teams because
like last year was like the Michigan Panthers or whatever.
We're in the finals, and then they just like moved
their team somewhere else. I guess. I don't know. I
don't know much. I love football is as much as
anybody on planet Earth, ir truthfully do. Yeah. I do

(25:35):
not care about these leagues at all.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
So you got the Birmingham Stallions, Yeah, of course, the Aviators, Yeah, sure,
the Dallas Renegades, the DC Defenders, the Houston Gamblers.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
I did see that Bob Stoop stepped down. He's officially retired.
He was the coach of the Renegades. I think, what
about the Louisville Kings. That's got to be a new one. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (25:55):
I thought I saw something from Eric Wood at a
at like a Louisville King's announcement.

Speaker 3 (26:03):
Probably he lives in Louisville, so okay, maybe he's a
part of this. Could be okay regardless. I saw Nick
Saban bought a share of the Nashville Predators. Hey, wow,
what are we doing? A lot going on, a lot
of going on that I didn't even know about. There
really is like an entirely different world out there, entirely

(26:24):
different America. I did see whoever Eric Wood was talking
about he said, you know, for home games, they'll come
in the night before and they'll do a bunch of
community service. Oh that's cool, So get out in the
community as well. So I will say this, Louisville built
a soccer stadium for their NWSL team. That is awesome. Okay,
it's a really cool stadium. I'm assuming that's where they'll

(26:47):
be playing these games at. But if you've ever been
to Louisville and you're like driving into downtown, that stadium
is sick. Okay, so check it out, all right, or
don't you do whatever you want? Good to know UFL
still alive and kicking. Baby. Let's take a couple of
phone calls. What's up, John?

Speaker 7 (27:07):
The UFL is alive and well.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
And I'm so excited I can tell. I think a
lot of people feel the same.

Speaker 7 (27:14):
That's awesome, isn't it.

Speaker 5 (27:16):
Wow.

Speaker 7 (27:16):
I want to go to Louisville to see the stadium, actually,
because our stadiums around here are horrible. I mean, anytime
we have to build a stadium in the Boston area,
it takes like eleven years to do it. Actually, we
were going to bid on the twenty twenty sixth Summer
Olympic games and people got all bent out of shape
because they were worrying about snow and out to remind
people it doesn't snow in July, but you know, hopefully not. Yeah,

(27:39):
this is a place where you go to go where
you don't want to do anything. This is like the
place that says no. But looking forward to the Sunday's game,
a few things I just want to see and it's
mostly about the quarterback because everything else comes secondary to him.
And you know, the press conference last week is demeanor
on the field last Sunday really so a lot of

(28:00):
character for him that, you know, I want to see
him being back to being himself, whether it be the
press conference today, the game on Sunday, Just be more
of himself and be the leader of the team, because Sony,
you quarterback to the University of Cincinnati for many years.
When the quarterback walks into the building and he's in
a dour mood and looks like he's pissed off about something,

(28:20):
I think that permeates the entire team if I'm reading
it right.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
Yeah, Like things start and stop with him.

Speaker 4 (28:26):
And that's why I think him coming back with such
a boost for the team, because man, here's here's our guy,
here's Joe Burrow.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
Now there's hope restored.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
If Joe Burrow is dragging and Joe Burrow is struggling,
that's going to permeate through the rest of the locker
room as well, just like it would on the other
side of it.

Speaker 7 (28:42):
So that question and I kind of overanalyze these things too.
It seems like he's a different person since the break
in last year, that that really affected him, as it should.
I mean, your home is being violated as you're on
the road playing a football game. It seems like that
really really bothered him the point where it kind of
soured him on the whole experience that like, I'm you know,

(29:04):
here playing I'm good in the community and some crazy
people break into my house. It seems like he's become
a little bit more defensive and kind of insular from
from that episode. I don't know, maybe I'm reading too
much into it.

Speaker 4 (29:16):
Without a doubt, Without a doubt, it just again and
today it could be back to business as usual for Joe,
And I think if so, you look at that and
then if he bounces back on Sunday, okay, let's move forward.
If you get any type of Joe that we saw
last week. I think it would be cause for a
little more concern.

Speaker 7 (29:36):
Yeah, without question, because I don't want to see him
turn into Jay Kupler. I mean, it was starting to
look like Jake Kettler on the field, where he was
just kind of going through the motions, and the press
conference was kind of just like, you know, the world
is ending.

Speaker 3 (29:48):
I think it's maybe he's just.

Speaker 7 (29:49):
Going through a really, really tough spell, and you know,
the losing starts to beat him up.

Speaker 3 (29:54):
Because there's a guy who won a.

Speaker 7 (29:55):
National championship in college, a Heisman Trophy first three years
here from a turning the franchise around, and the injuries
add up and the losing adds up. But he's got
to be the guy and he's often talked about it he's.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
The guy that can turn it around. And I still
have faith that he will do that for sure, for sure.

Speaker 4 (30:11):
And that's the thing. We've seen him have bad games
before and then immediately he turns it around and he's
back to what we envisioned Joe Burrow. Bean, I just
think when you looked at the mental airs he made,
that's not normal Joe Burrow behavior. So that to me
is what I want to watch. Can he clean up
the protection checks, the things that he missed which are

(30:35):
just again so uncharacteristic for him, And then I think
you feel better about where he's at without question.

Speaker 7 (30:41):
I mean, even like the sack on third down that
took them out of field goal range, the pick six
that looks like he just kind of gave up on it.
I didn't want him chasing the depender downs. I mean,
I have a rule, actually you probably would like this
Tony being a quarterback. If my quarterback throws an interception,
one of the interior alignment is to grab him, put
him in a bear hug, make sure he goes nowhere
near attack fling anybody, because we don't want to lose

(31:01):
a quarterback over something like that. They love them to
have a pick six that they need be just make
sure the quarterback's upright after that time.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
But I'm good with that, especially playing it out down
the stretch now.

Speaker 7 (31:12):
Absolutely, oh even more so now. But fellas, have a
great day. I'm sure we'll speak to you before Christmas and
not again.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
Thanks for the time, John, Thanks lot Man. We appreciate you.

Speaker 5 (31:22):
Mike.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
What's going on?

Speaker 8 (31:25):
Hey, Merry Christmas, bro Merry Christmas. All right, heard, Well,
first of all, I'm going to really go out on
the limb and make my Super Bowl tradiction the Rams
and the Broncos. Boy, I'm really really walking you are.

Speaker 3 (31:42):
You are?

Speaker 9 (31:44):
Wow? Barring any catastrophic injuries, which we know can happen
in a flash, sure Fulton can change, but the Broncos
are clearly the best team in the year.

Speaker 5 (31:54):
See.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
Yeah, it's weird.

Speaker 4 (31:55):
It feels like people keep waiting for them to fall back,
and they were underdogs at home again last week, and
it's just fine. They've they've not done it yet, and
I think people just keep waiting, but they're not They're
not blinking right now, They're not showing any signs that
that that they're going to go in the other direction.
And at this point, I think you got to kind

(32:15):
of take it for what it's worth.

Speaker 5 (32:16):
It.

Speaker 4 (32:16):
They are a legitimate contender, especially the way bo Nicks
played against that Green Bay defense.

Speaker 9 (32:21):
Yeah, and you know, as well as anybody Tony, the
more he plays, the better he's gonna get. And he's
got a.

Speaker 3 (32:26):
Great tutor, right Yep, without a doubt, docre.

Speaker 9 (32:30):
So that was my take a walk on the lobside prediction.
I heard an interesting interview with Robert Griffin and Steve
Young this morning, and they were both really concerned with
Joe's body language, what he had to say. They you know,
everybody loves in his talent to death and as a person,

(32:50):
but they did not, neither one of them. And you
got two guys that are quite a difference in age,
and they didn't feel good about what's happening. So I
just want to throw that in there. They didn't predict anything.
They just said, this is cause for concerns.

Speaker 10 (33:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (33:07):
Now, that's why I think today is so interesting. In
Sunday is so interesting because if it carries over to
another press conference, and then that carries over to another
poor game, then I think everyone shares that sentiment. Right now,
I think people are said, Okay, he had an off game,
maybe it was an off week. A lot of stuff
could happen in someone's life and you don't want to
dig too far into it. If it continues, then I

(33:31):
think it certainly becomes an issue.

Speaker 9 (33:33):
Yeah, I mean, you can't help but think it then, right,
I mean, you don't have to be a football fan.

Speaker 5 (33:38):
To figure that out.

Speaker 9 (33:39):
Which is correcting basic psychology. This Creg Greg Stamon, guy
that got the San Diego job. I saw his interview.
Big guy was in tears. He was so happy to
be the manager of the Padres and his family and
he is they love Southern California blah blah blah blah blah.
But I don't see him coming up of the Reds

(34:00):
any time to soon. I don't think that's gonna happen.
Why would you move from San Diego? Right, Yeah, I
don't know. I don't know why you did it. And
Caleb Ferguson, well, i'll tell you what. I tried so
hard to look Caleb Ferguson because he's kind of a
menacing figure on the mount. He's a big, sick dude.
He's a tough looking guy. He's a left hander, so

(34:21):
he got to love him. But in his stats over
his career are pretty good. But here's where he faltered
and killed the Dodgers. So many times was given up
the clutch base hit or the clutch home run, and
that is what that's why the Dodgers finally ranning.

Speaker 3 (34:39):
Yeah, it's uh.

Speaker 4 (34:41):
He didn't pitch obviously well in the postseason last year
for the Mariners, but he is a matchup guy. I
think left handed believers in Major League Baseball are are
very important if you want to have any legitimate shot
at at moving on. But I do think they're you know,
it's it's unfortunately the type of moves that this organization
and has made as of late that that fulfill a

(35:02):
need but also don't bring much excitement with it as well.

Speaker 9 (35:06):
Yeah, I mean, we're not going to pack the joint
because Caleb Burg, because ninety nine percent of the Reds
fans have never heard of the guy. Hey, Tony, have
you ever thought of Are all your kids right handed?

Speaker 3 (35:17):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (35:18):
My older two are? My youngest looks like he's going
to be a lefty right now?

Speaker 9 (35:24):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
I know it. I'm counting on him. I'm counting on him.

Speaker 5 (35:28):
Mike Kid.

Speaker 9 (35:29):
My dad was ambidexterrous. He really was. It was incredible.
My dad could do everything with both hands and it
was really freaky. And he tried like hell to make
me into a left hander or at that time, like
a switch hitter in baseball. Yeah, and actually I got
even though on the natural right hander, I got pretty
good at it just by practicing it, but it was
never quite the same. But it just seems not in

(35:51):
football so much, but boy, in baseball, if you're left handed,
even if you're a hitter, they just have a prettier swing.
All that stuff, right, And as a pitcher, it's guaranteed
money for the rest of your life.

Speaker 4 (36:00):
Yep, that's it. We're counting on him. I'm putting a
lot of trust in him.

Speaker 9 (36:06):
So tie those arms behind them, behind their waist. I'll
see you guys.

Speaker 4 (36:11):
Thank you, Thanks Mikevin Goodwin. All right, let's finish up
hour one when we come back. Thanks to Skyline Chili
on the whole of the Bengals ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
We're listening to Tony Pike sincey three sixty on ESPN
fifteen thirty.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
Welcome back.

Speaker 4 (36:44):
This is Cincy three sixty thanks to Skyline Chili Austin.
We've got Zach Taylor coming up in a couple of minutes.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
I'm fired up. Zach Taylor is.

Speaker 4 (36:52):
Going to speak to the media about this upcoming game
against the Miami Dolphins. Put an over under on the
time for me. What do you think think Zach's been
pretty brief the last couple of weeks. Yeah, I'm gonna
say eleven minutes, there's less football to talk about. There's
really a lot less to talk about.

Speaker 3 (37:09):
Now. We'll talk about Shamar Stewart, talk about T Higgins,
talk about Joe Burrow, talk about the Dolphins, to a
talk of aloa Quin Owers.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
What else gets brought up? What's a question you would
ask today if you were down there? What's on your mind?

Speaker 3 (37:29):
Hmm?

Speaker 4 (37:32):
I know it's not the most pressing one. I would
ask what the idea is at running back down the stretch?
Because some I J p Ryn is either getting similar
carries or maybe even more carries than Chase Brown. I
want to know what the plan is at running back.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
Yeah, I guess that's a mildly interesting part of it.
I think he'll be asked about his contract extension. Oh,
that's a good one. I'm sure he'll be asked about that.
That's a good one. What are you asking him today?

(38:09):
I don't know, Like, have you guys changed anything?

Speaker 5 (38:18):
You know?

Speaker 3 (38:18):
Oh, Joe Burrow? I don't know, like is there going
to be a different plan in place? Does the game
plan change now that you're eliminated? Are you going to
try to protect Joe a little bit more? I know
all the answers to those questions, though, I think this
is why it would be hard for me to come
up just off the top of my head.

Speaker 4 (38:36):
No, but I think there's something there that people would
want to know, Like, now that you are eliminated, does
the preparation change, does the personnel groupings change? Do your
substitutions change? Are you willing to give other guys more
looks now?

Speaker 3 (38:50):
I think a good question based off like the running
back conversation is is TODs Brooks going to get more
looks now? Soman?

Speaker 11 (38:57):
J P.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
Ryan's under contract for next year as well, He's going
to be here. Chase Brown's going to be here, Which
is why I've already seen some stupid people posting about
the Bengals drafting Jeremiah Love, which you want to talk
about a crash out, I would have a crash out
of all crashouts running back Jeremiah Love in the first round.
The running back room is kind of set, but I

(39:18):
wouldn't mind taking a look at TODs Brooks just to
see what he's got. Are we going to see more
of that type of thing in the second half? And
you know they drafted or didn't draft, but they claimed
on waivers yesterday Keishawn Williams from the Pittsburgh Steelers. He's
a return specialist, which would suggest that Charlie Jones is
probably gonna miss some time. What what's the severity of

(39:39):
that injury and that whole thing.

Speaker 4 (39:41):
Outside of Trey Hendrickson on the defensive side of the ball.
What do you think the most intriguing or pressing question
is that they'll have to answer in the offseason. Is
it Josephosai like like I mean, like on the roster
right now, not free agents, not the draft, like players
that are on this roster. You would have to make

(40:02):
a decision on Joseph Osai.

Speaker 3 (40:04):
Yeah, I would say that's probably the most pressing.

Speaker 4 (40:06):
Because I would wonder then, like down the stretch, so
you've got three games remaining and wins are low. I
know you want to win, but it's not going to
do anything for you. I would I would get to
Al Golden hopefully Duke Tobin. I'd say, Okay, what do
we need to see from Joseph Osai in these last
three weeks that either make us want to invest in
him or be okay moving on with him?

Speaker 5 (40:29):
You know?

Speaker 4 (40:29):
Is that can we see him dropping the coverage more
Can we see him on some stunts some more? Can
we line him up inside like I would want to
do as much with Joseph Osai over the next three
weeks to really gauge like, Okay, this is what we
have or what we don't have with him?

Speaker 3 (40:43):
You know, don't don't keep it basic. He's on a
one year deal worth a total of six and a
half million dollars right now. Mm hmm. I think he's
probably outplayed that sure on the open market. I would.
I would guess he'll get at least ten Are you
willing to give? That's what that see? Like that to me,
I don't have the answer right now, and his agent
is David Mulligana, so I would have to see more

(41:05):
down the stretch. Because the honest part about this, you're
you're saying right now, he's not reached that point for you.
I don't think so.

Speaker 4 (41:12):
But the interesting thing about this for me, Austin is
if it's not him, then who in the world is it?

Speaker 3 (41:18):
Right?

Speaker 4 (41:20):
I don't have anything to go on, and that's why
I think it is important that to get to see
Shamar Stewart this year, because if not, I don't know
what they have there. And as good as Miles Murphy's
been Austin. You remember down the stretch last year, Miles
Murphy was pretty good. Why does it take Miles Murphy
half or more than half of the season to start
playing better. Yeah, Like, I think these are all valid,

(41:43):
but I feel like I know what they have in
the second area or don't have. They're not gonna make
any startling moves at linebacker because they just drafted both
of them. They're gonna They're gonna give them another chance.

Speaker 3 (41:55):
It's also not like there's a ton of free agent
defensive linemen available next year. Sure, so Hendrickson is the time,
Matthew Judon, Khalil Mack, Hassan Reddick, Joey Bosa, Malcolm Kountz,
Daniko Audrey, Leonard Floyd. Those guys all made ten million
or more. Yeah, you've got Yeter gross Matos, who I

(42:15):
just for his name alone. I would love Draymont Jones
from Baltimore. I wouldn't mind that Samson Abucham from Indianapolis,
Arden Key, Osai Fowler, aj Epenes. These are all the
edge rushers. Yeah, that's not like a deep group of guys.
So just looking at this list makes me feel like, Okay,

(42:37):
Miles Murphy and Joseph Osai are probably going to get
brought back ad In Shamar Stewart add in probably a
draft pick me and that's what you probably two draft
picks and maybe one of those guys. You know, there
are other guys out there, you know. O dafe O
Way I think is interesting. So it's it's it's just

(43:01):
it's hard. Right Like if I look right now, Flacco
is going to be a free agent, Dalton Reisner is
going to be a free agent, Trey Hendrickson, Joseph Osai,
Geno Stone, You're going back in on Genostone. No, I'm
good with that, Noah Fan, Lucas, Patrick, Cam Taylor, Britt,

(43:21):
Tanner Hudson. I mean, these are the types of These
are the guys you're going to be making decisions on.
I don't think there's many hard decisions to make. Cam
Taylor Britt with making. I mean, his market value right
now is fifteen million. I'm not giving that to Cam
Taylor Britt. You know I'm not going to give right
now market value on sport track dot Com for Joseph
Osaiah is fifteen million. I don't think I'm there. You

(43:46):
know market value on genostone is seven point eight million.
I'm definitely not there, so there are decisions that have
to be made down the stretch. But like I said Austin,
over these next three I give Osai as many responsible
he's as possible, and see what you have or don't
have before you just blatantly move on from them, and
you can make that argument with other players as well.

(44:07):
But I do think that is important down the stretch.
We'll take a break that Zach Taylor press conference comes
next to kick off our number two of Cincy three
sixty on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 1 (44:18):

holiday season that much more special at any of the
two retail locations. For Cincey Shartz, it's Wednesday. It's the
top of hour number two, which means we have Zach

(45:10):
Taylor speaking right now at pay Course Stadium.

Speaker 13 (45:14):
We start with it.

Speaker 14 (45:15):
Yesterday there was a report that your contract with the
Bengals goes through twenty twenty seven. Can you confirm if
that's true, and if so, the organization decided not to
announce it. Do you know why the team decided not
to announce it a year after they announced.

Speaker 10 (45:29):
I don't think it wont matters. I coach every day
like it's my last and I've been through years in
twenty nineteen, twenty twenty that were literally you coach every
game thinking it could be your last game. And I've
seen how we responded after that twenty one twenty two,
competing for division titles and championships, and so this year
is no different from me. It's going through adversity coaching
every game in this profession like it could be your

(45:51):
last one. I have a lot of confidence in our
staff that we're going to get this turned around, and
we're going to finish the season really strong and put
together a great plan to get back to those championships
I mentioned. I'm very confident that we can do all that.

Speaker 5 (46:05):
It is.

Speaker 10 (46:06):
I'm not gonna respond to that. I just told you.
I coach every day like it's my last one.

Speaker 15 (46:10):
But you don't get a chance to talk to ownership
or do we don't get that opportunity.

Speaker 10 (46:15):
What kind of assurances have you been given? From how
we just talk every week every week you've talked about
your contractor every week we talk about everything. When was
the last time you spoke about your contract? And that's
not really part of our conversation. It's every week. We're
just trying to create together a great plan to win
football games and make sure our team's ready to go,
make sure I'm ready to go. So I know that's

(46:37):
of curiosity to you guys, but we're just focused on
being the Dolphins.

Speaker 15 (46:40):
It's fair to say that's reassessed after the season every year,
you know, ask them, ask them, Yeah, we don't get
that chance.

Speaker 10 (46:47):
Okay, Well I'm sorry, Okay, I'm just being straightforward with that.

Speaker 3 (46:52):
We would ask them, Oh, we don't get that.

Speaker 10 (46:54):
Okay, seem going through protocol. Yeah, he's still going through partle. Yeah,
he'll be same as last week. He'll go through practice day,
went through the walkthrough, but again protocol, So I'm not
gonna make any guess his own word ends up.

Speaker 3 (47:07):
Is anyone else out this week?

Speaker 10 (47:10):
Chris Jenkins will be out for sure. There's some other
guys will work through the next couple of days, some
of the ones we talked about the other day, but
don't want to make any prediction on where they end up,
but Chris will be the one that's out for sure.
Marius looks pretty good. So again, once we get on
the field, we'll assess this guy's better. But I felt
really good about Marius coming out of yesterday getting back

(47:30):
in the game.

Speaker 16 (47:30):
At some points we didn't see traders a time.

Speaker 10 (47:34):
I mean, what was that like. Honestly don't remember even
at what point it happened as we see now, so
just he was out at that time. It wasn't a
lot of conversation. We were just trying to go four points.

Speaker 3 (47:47):
There's a confidence that ownership has has shown.

Speaker 5 (47:50):
In You.

Speaker 17 (47:51):
Gave you the peace of mind when you're evaluating young
players and trying to rebuild the defense.

Speaker 10 (47:58):
Here's what I try to do every day, make the
decisions so we can win the game. And a lot
of that is trying to strengthen your team and your
roster by giving opportunity guys like that, like we've done
this season. So I think if you twofold, if you're
going to say, well, I'm going to do things because
this could know, I want to do what's best for
our team and our program to win immediately, win long term.

(48:18):
And so that's every decision. If if you're worried about
losing your job and that's how you're going to make
your decisions, you're not going to be very effective what
you do. And it's been a disappointing year, and we're
not going to run from that. I'm not going to
run from that, and the blame falls at my feet,
nobody else's Truthfully, I got my hands all over this thing.
Haven't done a good enough job. I understand that. But
I also have seen how this staff can respond and

(48:40):
these players can respond because we've been through this before.
This is very similar to the end of twenty twenty.
It felt very bleak and it was scourging, and all
we did was turn around to respond with back to
back divisional championships, which is rare to do in this division,
play for conference championships, play for Super Bowls. I feel
extreme confidence that we know how to do that, we
know how to get back to that. And that's acause
exactly what in are said, are mind to.

Speaker 5 (49:01):
Do a big thing?

Speaker 17 (49:01):
You guys did in that offseason after twenty twenty, you
go get Trey, you go get multiple agents like that.
Are you confident in ownership given that Burrows making more
jams that they'll.

Speaker 10 (49:11):
Be able to I'm confident that we're going to make
the best decisions for the organization. It's I got a
ton of belief in our coaching staff, our scouting department,
our ownership that we are very much in alignment with
every decision we've ever made here. And so again, when
things haven't been good enough over the course of this season,
there's really no one to blame other than me, truthfully,
and so I know we all play a piece of this,

(49:32):
but I'm the guy to get to sit there and
talk to the team every single week and present plans
and make in game decisions. And so frustrating that I
haven't done anything job this year, but a ton of confidence,
and maybe it rings hollow to everyone listening, but I
know that we've been here before and I've seen how
we can get out the other side. I'm very confident
we're going to get that done.

Speaker 17 (49:50):
Taken criticism certainly publicly, why do you?

Speaker 5 (49:53):
Because I know you believe in them? Why do you?

Speaker 10 (49:56):
Because I've worked side by side with him for seven
years now and I have a ton of confidence and
how he sees things and the vision he's got and
the vision that we have together our scouting. Our scouting
staff does a great job, and it's it's rare that
you get a chance to have like a really personal
relationship with them and see them and be on the
same page and communicate the way that we do. It's
not that way everywhere, and so I really like to

(50:17):
set up we have and I think it works well
for us and we'll work really well for us going forward.
You'd have to ask him he's been He's been great
so far to my eye. We haven't gotten on the
field yet. But again, when you guys get that opportunity,
can ask you anticipate in practice today Joe Burrow, Yes,
I do have a very minor lib good lock.

Speaker 15 (50:40):
Nothing if you're monitoring that closely.

Speaker 18 (50:43):
Especially now the team out clicking at the roster, it's
a very high percentage of guys who have never played
in the playoffs here.

Speaker 10 (50:50):
Yeah, how you had to adjust the.

Speaker 18 (50:53):
Way you present the things you teach considering that so
many guys just.

Speaker 10 (50:56):
Don't know what that's like. Yeah, but a lot of
it is we've we've got a rhythm that we think
serves us well. We're never afraid to modify anything over
of course of the week. We do that you do
in on the coaching staff. Who's who's been in those
games you mentioned, we got a lot of players in
our team that have been in those games. And then again,
we feel like we've accumulated a lot of guys that

(51:17):
have won, whether it just be at the college level,
if they're new to our team, and that's that's a
big part of it. So again, that hasn't gotteness where
we need to be this year, but they're certainly winning
attitude in the locker room and guys understand what the
standard looks like and do a good job holding each
other through that.

Speaker 18 (51:33):
Has this been a year where you've kind of felt
kind of a story of that year has been the
youth and then you trying to step up and do
more and go through that process.

Speaker 10 (51:40):
Yeah, there's an element of that, and there's always going
to be years where you find that, you know, where
you're trying to balance the best you have on the
team and trying to really bring along young players so
that they can presently be good players for you and
continue to develop and you can be in a good
spot in the future. So I feel like if you
look at all six of the rookies we got, we
put them all out there, and we've got a chance
to watch them all play and grow, and I think

(52:00):
it's a really exciting class. And I know that we
hit on all six of them, and I feel really
good about it. And so we'll just we'll just keep building.

Speaker 19 (52:07):
When the team's out of playoff, contention usually goes to
maybe developing younger players and focusing on that instead of
making But why is that maybe not a consideration for all.

Speaker 10 (52:17):
We've played all six of our rookies so well in
terms of even just further.

Speaker 19 (52:21):
Down the roster, uh bottom, everybody, whether the rookies or not,
instead of trying to.

Speaker 10 (52:27):
I think we're actively doing that. I think we've we've
tried to do that all season, and we'll continue to
do it over the next couple of games on Mondays.

Speaker 15 (52:36):
One way he would describe DJ Turner is very driven,
climbing all the time, especially this season. Your thoughts on DJ,
and I know you've talked about his Pro Bowl potential.

Speaker 10 (52:48):
Yeah, what are your thoughts.

Speaker 13 (52:50):
Of why he's done so well?

Speaker 10 (52:51):
Well, I think again, he's in his third year, so
he's had a chance to learn from two years of
experience of the ups and downs that you do with
in this profession, you do with playing in corner, you know,
and going against all the guys he's got to go against.
And so I've often mentioned that the conversation he and
I had in training camp, you know, coming out of
training camp and he's coming off of an injury before

(53:12):
week one, and his response was just consistent with all
the work that he's really put in over the summer,
and so now there's just this extreme consistency there. He's
got a confidence that comes with that. Like I really
you can see when a guy has earned the confidence.
There's a lot of guys that can walk around with
arrogance or brashness because they're talented, but the work ethic
doesn't necessarily match the talent that they have. DJ is

(53:34):
a guy who's confidence sims from the work he's put in,
and so we've all seen it as players and coaches,
and so to see him go out there and play
with the consistency he has, it makes you really proud
of him, because a guy who's just all right, I'm
facing a little bit of adversity. I'm not starting the
week one. I was just told I'm not starting. I
think I should be. Didn't say anything about his teammates,
thought that they were very deserving the opportunity they got.

(53:56):
I'm just going to go work, and that's what he did.
He got his opportunity and he's made the most of it.
Think he's having a Pro Bowl year, and so it's
just I think proud is the first we're in. Not
that I I have anything to do. I don't go
out there coach the corners. That's Chuck, that's him, that's
out and everything that they're doing. But I am proud
just to know the person and the response I've seen
from him. That's leadership. Like when you talk about leadership,

(54:17):
developing leadership, it doesn't always have to be loud and
vocal and all that stuff something like, cause it can
be a go out there and I'm just gonna do
my job and make sure everyone knows I'm dependable and
they can count on me. And that's that's exactly who
DJ Turner has been this year. Absolutely absolutely.

Speaker 3 (54:34):
Do you think Samana has a shot this week?

Speaker 5 (54:36):
And before?

Speaker 10 (54:37):
Because before you went, you know, as involved, what.

Speaker 3 (54:40):
Did you see from himything?

Speaker 10 (54:42):
I saw a guy that was fighting through injury, you know,
And and so I think he's just had a tough
go of it this season. And and it's because just
things that have happened to him on the field. And
so I don't want to make any declarations about this
week because we haven't got out there and practice yet.
I want to make sure we see him practice and
he's got the confidence of that, We've got the compass
that before we put him back out there. So again

(55:03):
that's completely up in the air really as we watch
him go through the week. But I like he sits
in the front road of the team meetings. Man, He's
He's always on me when I'm up there presenting. He
does a great job taking it all. In Jerry's office
is right next to mine. You know, I can see
the attitude he's got every single day, and so I'm
fired up when when we do get him out there,
whether it's this week or not, for the future that

(55:23):
he's got here, because he's a guy that I'm really
high on.

Speaker 3 (55:26):
He seemed pretty active, I mean like in August.

Speaker 10 (55:28):
I mean, yeah, he didn't have much of absolutely spring.

Speaker 3 (55:31):
He just seemed to be active before you hear anything.

Speaker 10 (55:33):
Jack, Yeah, and he was healthy, you know, and then
said to fight through the injuries. That's tough to evaluate
any rookie when they're fighting through injuries. We had that
last year with Chris, we had Am McKinley, we had
we had some guys that just got dinged up during
the season and they fight through it, just like Shamar
has done. And so I look forward to get him
on the field and letting him make an impact for
us because I know what he's healthy, he'll be able
to do that.

Speaker 18 (55:52):
I was thinking about this going back to Miami, and
then you mentioned lessons from twenty nineteen and twenty twenty.
In twenty nineteen in Miami, what did it end up meaning?
The way Voyd like fought back to the line of
scrimmage in that one moment when it was hurt and
kind of hoping to see some similar things down.

Speaker 10 (56:07):
Yeah, it shows the heart and the character of the
guys we have that they just want to win. You know,
you tune out the outside noise, and you tune out,
you know, anybody making a comments to you about a draft,
and none of that's just nonsense. We put every second
of our livelihood into winning games and doing everything we
can to represent ourselves the right way. And so these
types of games are big character games. You get a

(56:27):
chance to reveal what we're made of. You know, we
know we're not going to the playoffs, but you still
get a chance to go out there and fight like
we did in twenty nineteen. And you know, I remember
Eifert picking up TV on triple in and helping them
get up and we clocked the ball and then we
throw a vertigo for touchdown the next play. And all
this tape that we still use today is represented by
those guys that started this process for me, you know,

(56:50):
the TVs and the geos of the world, and the
cjs and the guys that fought to build the culture
and the foundation that we kept building on over all
these years. And we got the guys. The guys in
the locker room are doing the same thing right now.
Is disappointing where we're at, but we're still have a
foundation that we're going to continue to build on and
so we can go win divisional titles and conference titles
and Super Bowls in the future.

Speaker 17 (57:10):
Part of you like when you met Joe, Thank goodness
week we got out of Miami losing because we get Joe.

Speaker 10 (57:18):
No, no, it's you couldn't look at it like that. Well, again,
that's just doing a disservice to the work we put
in every single day. If you say, oh, you want
to go lose a football like, absolutely not that you know.
I don't think people really understand what the next morning
feels like for us when we lose the game, what
the bus ride feels like, what the plane ride feels like. Well,
we're getting out the next day and doing whatever you

(57:38):
got to do and trying to get the guys going
again on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday to get ready to
play on Sunday. But it does your fair none of that.
So we fight every second to win football games. We
don't for one second tolerate anybody that says we should
do this or that and not focus on winning. So
that's what I love when I have a team meeting
this morning and you just look in their eyes. Everybody's

(58:00):
on the same page. Everyone knows what's at stake here.
What's at stak is we need to win the games
we feel better and so that we can build some
momentum ourselves and then go win the next one and
then do things we got to do in the off
season to keep improving our team. But that's our only
focus right now is finding a way to go down
to Miami, win the game, get on the bus, and
the point with a smile on our face because it's

(58:20):
been too few of those this year. Thanks you're there.

Speaker 14 (58:23):
Going back to what you were talking about with the setup,
and you talked about how much you love the input
you get to have with the scouts and the setup here.
How willing is the organization And I'll ask this to
you too, but centrire big part of.

Speaker 3 (58:36):
The draft process is to look at you guys.

Speaker 14 (58:39):
Had a lot of success that you've talked about with
that twenty one and twenty two seasons, but the last
couple of seasons with them all ending and losing seasons,
how willing is everybody to look at the process and
maybe make tweaks and changes to it if.

Speaker 10 (58:52):
Need Yeah, I think for a lot of the reasons
everything was praised in twenty one and twenty two and
then you have down years and it's ok, you need
to change everything. Well, where were those comments when we
were doing it very similarly and we are ever a
great year. So for us, everybody is always open to evolving.
I can't speak for everybody, but I know just from
dealing with everybody in this building. Everyone wants to win

(59:14):
and do everything it takes to win, and so I
know that better than anybody because I interact with everybody,
and so I feel extreme confidence that we're all on
the same page. All we want to do is win
and bring championships here to Cincinnati, and we'll do whatever
it takes to put it specific words on how that's
going to look. That's all for us behind the scenes
to work through it and make sure we do all that.
But I have absolute confidence that we have the right

(59:37):
people and the right setups to make this happen, because
we've proven it and we'll prove it again.

Speaker 17 (59:41):
You believe ownership in the front office feels the same
way about it.

Speaker 10 (59:45):
I don't want to speak for anybody, and I get
what Mike just said, but I have a great relationship
with them. I believe in them. I don't ever want
to speak for someone when they're speaking about me. That's unfair.
I shouldn't do that. But I love the relationship I
have with everyone in this building. Unique thing about this
is we get the meet so often, and that's a
really good thing because there's no three weeks of no

(01:00:06):
communication face to face. I'm wondering what they think about
a game, what they think about none of that. We
get a chance to form a relationship and go through
all this stuff and it's the right way to do it.
And so again I'm excited for to finish out this
season the right way and for the future as well.

Speaker 16 (01:00:23):
Like Miami made a change at our quarterback, looks like
the Quins.

Speaker 10 (01:00:27):
I haven't seen that. I mean, I know that was
a report, I haven't heard Mike McDaniel say that. So
until that, they've got a really good offense. I think
that Mike does a great job with the scheme. I
don't want to call it unique because we've seen it
over the years with him at different places. But he
does a really good job being creative and stressing you
in different ways maybe that some other teams don't in
the run game, and not afraid to be very creative

(01:00:50):
with how he does it. And so got a lot
of respect for Mike McDaniel and the job he does.
And I know they ran into some circumstances in Pittsburgh
and cold weather and that's that's a good team. But
it's a it's a very difficult offense, regardless of who
the quarterback is. They put a lot of stressing in
the run game. They do a great job getting guys
open with a lot of speed in the past game

(01:01:11):
that can finish on exposive plays, and so it's a
very challenging group to go against.

Speaker 16 (01:01:15):
You drafted a quarterback in a while, even the late
rounds has that this year was at considerational know y'all
swop through the QB and three a lot this offseason.
Was it a consideration and maybe see what you can
get the seven.

Speaker 10 (01:01:25):
We always evaluate, you know, we always evaluate who's out
there and how they fit us, put up against another position,
put up against our quarterback room. And obviously we've we've
done what we've done.

Speaker 20 (01:01:37):
Zach when you, I know you're focused obviously just on
winning the game in front you. With three games left,
what do you want to see out of guys that
are no maybe outside of the four guys that you
have that when you when you go at the end
of the season started valuating and.

Speaker 3 (01:01:48):
Figure out what you need to for twenty twenty six,
what can.

Speaker 20 (01:01:50):
Guys show in these last three games to show that
they should be part of what you had a part
of the play before you get figure out what you
need to add or improve on the team to get back.

Speaker 10 (01:01:59):
To continue on the same trajectory. A lot of these
guys are on you know, I think with any player
at the beginning of their career, guys that have gone
on the field for us have have truly you can
truthfully say you've gotten better every single game. And so
just to continue on with that and all the work
that these guys are put in over of course their careers,
but really starting back in January of getting putting together

(01:02:21):
great offseason, all the work they put in the summer
training camp, going through this season like it's you don't
stop now just because of the circumstances we're in. So
I expect these guys to continue to give their best.
I know they will. And to your question, what are
young guys? You just want to see him continue on
the same trajectory we've seen them on, especially this last
couple weeks. All right, thank you, all right.

Speaker 3 (01:02:44):
There we have at Austin. It's my favorite one of
the year. That's by far.

Speaker 4 (01:02:48):
I thought that was as much pushback as we've heard
Zach take at a press conference in quite some time.

Speaker 3 (01:02:56):
I don't really know if I agree with Zach that
he said they hit on all six picks this year.
There is a jury still out on that. I don't
fully believe the relationship with Duke and working side by side.
Along with what he had to say about the scouting department,
he did take ownership and said I'm the one to
blame for this, no one else, I'm the one to blame.

(01:03:17):
He also made mention of how much he's talking to
ownership weekly. Yeah, and that is a unique thing about
this job, is the Monday meetings with ownership. Marvin Lewis
has talked about this over the years. It's something that
happens does not happen across the NFL, and I do

(01:03:42):
think that that can lead to a very clear understanding
of where you stand within the organization. Sure, and you
know we know this about Mike Brown. He will not
mince his words. He will be very straightforward when talking
about how he feels or what he thinks. I always
think of Andre Smith walking into his office on Hard

(01:04:03):
Knocks and Mike Brown basically said, you need to lose
some weight, big boy, And like even the way that
he addressed Trey Hendrickson at Mock Turtle Soup Day this year,
Mike Brown's not afraid to tell you what he thinks. Nope.
And I do think that's a good thing for a
head coach in the NFL each week, to be able
to have those conversations. I don't understand why Zach would

(01:04:26):
not confirm his contract status. Yeah, it was weird how
he went around that. I don't understand why. What's the
purpose of not confirming that? Correct that I agree with that.
I would love to get an answer is why can't.

Speaker 5 (01:04:47):
We know that? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
Traigs did some work today, man, Trags, you know he's
Traggs is saying the quiet part out loud. Traggs is
adamant and he has been for a week couple weeks now.
We don't get to talk to anyone else. That's that's
Trike's thing, like, we don't get to hear from anyone else,
so you have to tell us yeah. And this is
the first time where I felt like Zach was kind

(01:05:12):
of like, oh yeah, you know, yeah, I had enough.
I loved it, and I'm I appreciate from a strictly
from a Bengals fan perspective, I appreciate that Trags push
back on that. Yes, Zach kind of stepped in it
by saying you would have to ask them, because that

(01:05:34):
throws the alley you for Trags to dunk and say
we don't get to talk to them, yea, And after that,
Zach doesn't have anything he can say. It is, you know,
unfortunate that Zach has to be the guy. We would
love more transparency from Duke and ownership. It's not going
to happen. Agreed, that was enjoyable. I might listen to

(01:06:01):
it again as soon as I'm off work today. We'll uh,
we'll till take our break. Kelsey asked a good question
two at the end, which is kind of the question
I've been asking the question of the off season. How
are the processes going to change? Yeah, I didn't like
Zac's answer to that either.

Speaker 4 (01:06:17):
Yeah, we'll take a break when we come back. Your Talkbacks,
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 3 (01:06:27):
It's that time for talkbacks.

Speaker 21 (01:06:29):
Press the microphone and record your message or Austin in tone,
please keep it.

Speaker 3 (01:06:35):
Clean and don't be mean, and a.

Speaker 22 (01:06:38):
Sprinkle sprinkled drip drips.

Speaker 3 (01:06:41):
It's that time for talkbacks.

Speaker 21 (01:06:43):
It's our favorite part since E three sixty. So Austin, buddy,
play those bunkbacks on your screen and please right now
to sabotage.

Speaker 4 (01:06:54):
All right, here we go the Wednesday edition your Talkbacks,
thanks to Sincy shirts right here on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 23 (01:07:05):
Does your favorite NFL team have an ownership that runs
it like a small business, Well you better hope to
christ that they have super share. Don't be kind of sure,
don't be pretty sure, don't be a little share. You
better be super sure that that.

Speaker 24 (01:07:23):
I truly can't believe my eyes in that video of
Tony dressed up as the elf he was touching a
public trash can wow.

Speaker 5 (01:07:33):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:07:34):
I'm not a germ guy, eh, I mean I like
to keep things clean.

Speaker 25 (01:07:39):
I think the Bengals had a great year. They got
their starting safety to agree to take a pay cut,
then they beat Shamar Stewart and his agent and forced
him to take the forfeiture provision and his rookie contract.
Only two members of the Ring of Honor called him
out for being a Cheapskatee Boomera and Corey Dillon. And lastly,
he saved a much bunch of money by not having

(01:08:00):
to pay someone to remove the snow from the stadium.
It was a great year for Mike Brown and the Bengals.

Speaker 26 (01:08:10):
Tony quick question.

Speaker 24 (01:08:12):
I see your boy Jesus back on the team, and
it kind of shows how desperate Wes is to get
this thing going in the right.

Speaker 27 (01:08:22):
Direction, which I understand.

Speaker 24 (01:08:24):
But I just can't see Huggins or Cronin allowing someone
back on the team after all that's happened.

Speaker 5 (01:08:31):
I mean, what's your opinion.

Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
I think it's a I think it's a desperate play.
I don't think that Wes Miller has has many other
plays left in the playbook. That would be my thought.

Speaker 5 (01:08:43):
I now present to you the relationship between Bengals fans
and Mike Brown.

Speaker 28 (01:08:53):
Do you really think about it?

Speaker 13 (01:09:07):
Hey, Audie, I heard you yesterday that you really enjoying
your sasty.

Speaker 5 (01:09:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:09:12):
Head mask.

Speaker 13 (01:09:14):
People don't know what it is. It's like a you know,
something like a ski mask or whatever that goes over
your whole head and covers your mouth. In fact, I
think you should wear it in the studio to cover
your mouth and I can stand behind you and tighten
it down so your lips don't move.

Speaker 5 (01:09:33):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
Wow, today it's freezing in here. Even given the Bengals
pathetic history of losing.

Speaker 27 (01:09:40):
The backup quarterbacks, if we do lose to Quinn Ewrs,
the whole thing needs to be burnt down and restarted.

Speaker 3 (01:09:46):
That guy is a bomb. Wow, he did get that
Christmas tree to jump off side. The other week. You know,
Joe Burrow or Zach Taylor was saying coaches every game
like it's his last. If he loses to Quinn Yours,
it might be as life could be.

Speaker 29 (01:09:59):
What anecdotal evidence is there to suggest Joe Burrow actually
likes playing for Zach Taylor Other than Joe not trashing
Zach publicly, we all just assume Joe likes Zach.

Speaker 5 (01:10:13):
How do we know that?

Speaker 29 (01:10:14):
Do you think Joe wants to play the entirety of
his career for Zach Taylor. This is absurd. By the way,
playing Joe these last three weeks makes no sense whatsoever.
Can you imagine if he suffers yet another catastrophic injury.

Speaker 3 (01:10:31):
Yeah, that's players want to play and they're paid well
to play. Coaches should have the best interest for those players.
I just like you heard Zach talk about it. You
heard Travis Kelsey talk about it, like, guys, aren't just
going to quit playing football? You cannot operate scared, You
just can't. I get where you're coming from, but that's

(01:10:53):
a reality every time he steps on the field, whether
it's week fifteen or week five.

Speaker 30 (01:11:01):
It's the lord. I gotta start bench cut. Hello, lord,
do you like getting Christmas presents wrapped? Do you like
getting Christmas presents in gift bags? Or do you just
like getting gift cards?

Speaker 3 (01:11:17):
I legit could care less about At my age, I
could care less about gifts that I get. However it's gifted,
I don't care. I thoroughly enjoy the the process of
gift giving, and when I give gifts, I wrap them.
That's not the question. I would rather unwrap a gift. Okay,
it's a start bench cut. Well, you've really struggled with

(01:11:39):
this over the last couple of months. Start bench cut,
give the options. I'll start the wrap, okay, I'll cut
the bag, all right. Or I'll bench the bag and
I'll cut the gift card. Okay, I agree, put the
gift card in the bag. St It's easy, almost as
easy as answer. You can start bitch cut true.

Speaker 31 (01:11:59):
So turning Tony, this one's vainly for you. But Austin,
feel free to answer instead of start bench cutt We're
gonna do fire, keep, extend, Zach Taylor, West, Miller, Scott's Saderfield.

Speaker 3 (01:12:15):
Oh my gosh, I can't wait to listen. Oh my gosh.
I'll go first, go ahead, fire West, Miller, Yeah, keep
Zach Taylor, extend Scott Saderfield.

Speaker 22 (01:12:29):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (01:12:31):
At this point, it's probably fire West. Although I've been
banging the Zach Taylor drum for quite some time. I've
been I've been on the Zach Taylor thing for longer
than I have been on the West. So I'll fire Zach. Oh,
it means you have to keep her, extend West. I'll
keep West because Jessel's back and who knows how they
play with Jessel, And then I'll extend Sat good day

(01:12:53):
to be set seven wins Wing Wednesday.

Speaker 32 (01:12:56):
For those who celebrate Tony and Austin, we some hilarious antics.

Speaker 6 (01:13:02):
This bowl season.

Speaker 32 (01:13:04):
We get Mayo getting dumped on a coach, a pop
top getting eaten alive. What would we have for a
Tony Pike three to sixty Bowl? Maybe Austin in a
dunk take, maybe those goofy boys that Halloween for our
chier leaders, or maybe something else.

Speaker 6 (01:13:23):
What do you guys think.

Speaker 3 (01:13:24):
I'd throw Austin in the dunk tank?

Speaker 5 (01:13:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:13:27):
I would do that. Yeah, I got what. We're gonna
have a lot of water. Hey, just a couple of questions.

Speaker 27 (01:13:34):
First off, do you think it's better to put in
the backups and see what you got for next year
and lose out to improve a draft position? I think
if we win less three games, so you can pretty
much say goodbye to Caleb Downs or anybody being a
starter or a significant contributor. And also my second question

(01:13:55):
would be for Tony, do you have any eligibility left
that you could help out during the bowl game.

Speaker 3 (01:14:01):
I'm out of eligibility. I'm more of one that that
I would rather get the higher draft pick. Are you
one hundred percent out of eligibility. For sure, I would
honestly have to look. I would have to look, but
I think I am.

Speaker 33 (01:14:16):
Hey, guys, DJ east Side little onto the weather.

Speaker 3 (01:14:19):
He's last couple of days.

Speaker 33 (01:14:20):
Not sure if it's due to missing my daily dose
of Tony Pikes since he three sixty, or if it's
the bird flu. The Browns family has continually flipped the
bird to the fans in this city, and I know
he sees were just another sad chapter. I knew Zack's
has way too comfortable in his post game.

Speaker 6 (01:14:35):
He knows he's not going.

Speaker 3 (01:14:36):
Anywhere prom with Zach Is.

Speaker 33 (01:14:37):
He couldn't coach a bunch of kids open the cookie,
Jarnis it was already open.

Speaker 5 (01:14:40):
Wow.

Speaker 33 (01:14:40):
If conditions aren't perfect the entire game, he finds a
way to lose, not coach his way to a win.

Speaker 3 (01:14:44):
Thanks for the lump of.

Speaker 34 (01:14:45):
Cole Mike, Hey, Austin, Hey, Tony Paul from Cleaves here.
Just wanted to say that I'm on board with Joe
Burrow starting the last three games of the season. And
everybody keeps looking to the future. But you know, the
way I look at it is he signed that contract.
If he's healthy, he's playing that's the way you have

(01:15:06):
to look at it. I mean he could get hurt
outside of football and ruin his career the same way
he could slip on ice. He could actually cut a
finger off making food. So I mean he signed a
contract that said he was in an NFL quarterback Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:15:19):
I mean we're not gonna win the Marconi this year?
Does that mean we just don't work the last three
weeks of the season somewhat argue.

Speaker 22 (01:15:26):
Hello, friends, and welcome to deep thoughts with Uncle Ronnie. Hello,
Wes is a mess, But fear not. The Jisel is back.
Oh and Quinn Hewers better fear him. The Bengals defense
is sewers.

Speaker 3 (01:15:45):
Ooh, Bengals defense is Sewers.

Speaker 5 (01:15:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 35 (01:15:49):
I'm surprised the offense played too a song ASO left
over that much money in the first place. You know,
I know they're gonna throw to h and a thousand
times Sunday.

Speaker 3 (01:16:03):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:16:04):
Do you think the Bengals.

Speaker 35 (01:16:05):
Defensive coordinator and linebackers we'll be able to figure that out?

Speaker 3 (01:16:11):
Let's hope. So I'm not confident, yeah, that they will
figure that out. Tua turned the ball over.

Speaker 28 (01:16:20):
Tony Austin Hei from out healthy here. My toes are
finally defrosted some Sunday's game feeling better. Work has also
slowed down for me, so I can now call in more,
leave a talkback. Really excited. I miss you all, miss Tony,
miss Sauce, miss the Talkbeckers.

Speaker 11 (01:16:37):
You know I don't miss my Twitter or x if
you will, I really don't use it that much more
because all it is is talk ciity and negativity, and
my holiday season is gonna be better without it.

Speaker 3 (01:16:48):
Highly encourage Eligen talk sicity.

Speaker 5 (01:16:52):
It was.

Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
It was nice to see Johnny on Sunday. I hadn't
seen him in a while. The toxicity, he's got that
back corner table, the Holy Grail lockdown, yep, yep.

Speaker 28 (01:17:03):
And because it's been a minute, I'm a double dep unapologetically,
I used to be the freaking president.

Speaker 6 (01:17:09):
I get to do what I want.

Speaker 5 (01:17:11):
Tony and Austin.

Speaker 11 (01:17:12):
In your family, what was the food traditions for either
Christmas Eve or Christmas? Did you always have the same
meal every year? Did you always have the same breakfast
every year? You know, what are the traditions food wise?
I would love to hear that, and heck if other
talk Parkers.

Speaker 5 (01:17:31):
Want to chime In.

Speaker 4 (01:17:31):
That's great question. Growing up, it was always I remember lasagna.
And now the thing I look forward to most on
Christmas Day is my grandma's. She makes like roast beef sandwiches.
They're fantastic. And on Christmas Eve, my in laws do
spaghetti and meatballs interesting and it's fantastic. Except I found

(01:17:55):
out one year Austin it wasn't actually meatballs. It was
like dear meat venison and not through me for a
big loop.

Speaker 3 (01:18:02):
You didn't know that whole time. Nope, because you would
never have eaten it. I and then and then manas
like see I told you it's all on your head
because I.

Speaker 5 (01:18:10):
Like this is good.

Speaker 3 (01:18:12):
Yeah, now you don't eat it anymore, do you?

Speaker 5 (01:18:13):
Nope?

Speaker 3 (01:18:14):
They make separate meatballs. Venison is delicious. They make they
make separate meatballs. You are a child, and you need
some serious uh. I hope you donate your brain to
science when it's all said and done. I really do.

Speaker 5 (01:18:29):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:18:30):
I don't know that we had like traditions. I guess
Christmas morning my dad would always make pancakes. He makes
the best pancakes. So I think the last couple of
Christmases or whatever, I've been by myself. So I've like
tried to make his pancakes on Christmas morning, So I
guess that's the only one I can think of.

Speaker 26 (01:18:49):
Okay, Hey, guys, Steven Montgomery, regarding the defensive end situation,
I would actually offer a sign a three or four
year extension, maybe forty five million, somewhere around the neighborhood
of fifteen per. I think he's going to bring a
lot more than ten on the open market if you
look at his pressure win rate, his flexibility of position
on which side he plays on, and the one thing

(01:19:10):
you know about him is he's a high motor, relentless guy,
and he's come on each year when he's got more opportunities.

Speaker 36 (01:19:18):
Okay, I don't hate that at all. Okay, this is DJ.
You know, just listening to Zach's conference there, you know
he really went his tenures done with the Bengals, which
can't come soon enough. He really needs to go into
politics where you can just talk and talk and talk,
not really say anything, and results don't matter. He is

(01:19:39):
perfectly set up for that because that is exactly what
you get from him.

Speaker 3 (01:19:43):
Marvin was the same way. Yeah, a lot of coaches
are good politicians.

Speaker 37 (01:19:48):
Hey, guys, Jeff in India. I mean, that's the best
press conference I've heard in quite some time. And it's
time to turn up the heat on this.

Speaker 6 (01:19:54):
Damn guy.

Speaker 37 (01:19:55):
If you've got a contract to twenty twenty seven, then
you're gonna get these type of questions when you're four
and ten.

Speaker 6 (01:20:02):
It's ridiculous.

Speaker 37 (01:20:04):
Good on you, Trags and Rapine and Kelsey and Ben
Baby and Paul and everybody else.

Speaker 6 (01:20:11):
Keep it coming, keep it up, do not stop.

Speaker 3 (01:20:14):
Oo day, there you go.

Speaker 38 (01:20:17):
Reds fans sos their shoes in from Great American Ballpark
with a very exciting two for one announcement for your
Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals. The Cincinnati Bengals have fired
Zach Taylor and Duke Tobin, and Duke Tobin and Taylor
have signed with the Cincinnati Reds to play left field
a designated hitter in place of Kyle Schwarzer, who, of course,

(01:20:41):
the Reds were unable to sign because they're cheap.

Speaker 5 (01:20:44):
For more information, visit Reds dot com.

Speaker 3 (01:20:46):
Thank you. That would be tough for Duke Tobin if
you've got to talk to the media every day, yep, yep.

Speaker 27 (01:20:51):
Haven't we ended the last three or four years on
Wayne streaks of eight, five, and seven. You know, wins
the last three years and it never carries over the
momentum never carries.

Speaker 3 (01:21:02):
Let's do it again.

Speaker 27 (01:21:02):
You need to pick a different answer for that. And
he's on double secret probation. That's why he doesn't have
an answer for contract.

Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
Yeah, let's do it again. I don't know, man.

Speaker 4 (01:21:10):
They turned five last year into seven this year. The
hottest team down the stretch last year. But yeah, worked
out this year, so let's do it again. Meaningless football.

Speaker 29 (01:21:20):
I heard Mike in La earlier say that his old
man was ambi dextrous.

Speaker 3 (01:21:25):
Wow, man, that's awesome. I would give my right arm
to be ambi dextrous. Well, then you couldn't be ambidextrous.

Speaker 29 (01:21:35):
This thing on blue.

Speaker 11 (01:21:39):
All right?

Speaker 3 (01:21:40):
Last very good? A break one segment or two today?
I'm thinking we're gonna do two.

Speaker 4 (01:21:47):
Okay, two quicker segments. Chad Brendle kicks off our number three. Uh,
possibly some read and react still in our number three?
All ahead? And a touch?

Speaker 3 (01:21:55):
Uh? Not a touch? What's the word? I'm think enough.
I don't know what's going to do at the end
of the show. Quick hits. Yeah, but he's gonna. I
could be having a stroke on lawn air. Yeah, I
mean last night, what were you?

Speaker 5 (01:22:10):
What do you?

Speaker 4 (01:22:11):
I don't know what I'm looking for. He's gonna come
in quickly and talk to us and then leave. When
is this at quick hits?

Speaker 10 (01:22:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:22:19):
What word am I looking for? At the end of
the show. Yes, he's going to stop by, Sure, sure,
stop in. We'll go a stop in. He's going to
touch base, touch base? Is that what you were going for?
He's going to touch base with us.

Speaker 4 (01:22:32):
We'll take a break mercifully thanks to since he starts
at sinty three six on ESPN fifteen thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
This is an in the NATI gruntch you in part
by bod Light and by Oakley Greens on ESPN fifteen thirty,
the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Speaker 4 (01:22:54):
Dove into this a little bit earlier this week, as
we dive back into Cincy three sixty Austin.

Speaker 8 (01:22:59):
UH.

Speaker 4 (01:22:59):
The week sixteen schedule across the National Football League should
set up to be a very good one, starting with
tomorrow night. Does the winner of rams Seahawks Austin in
your opinion, have the front have the easiest path to
the super Bowl, And I won't say easiest, but do
they have your path to the super Bowl? Is it

(01:23:21):
one of those two teams?

Speaker 3 (01:23:23):
Yeah? I think that whoever wins that, that's who you think.
Whoever's the number one seed in the NFC, which is
probably going to be one of those two teams. Yeah,
I think would be my favorite in the NFC. That
being said, who do you trust more?

Speaker 5 (01:23:42):
In that one?

Speaker 3 (01:23:42):
Tomorrow night? Seahawks?

Speaker 4 (01:23:44):
Fantastic defense, but it's Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay. It's
essentially a Pickham Who do you trust more?

Speaker 3 (01:23:52):
Seattle right now? Really? Yeah, I've had the same philosophy
for years now. Now, the Rams did sneak by the
Seahawks the first time around. Yeah, home, short week primetime games. Yeah,
in the division, I'm always going to go at the home.

Speaker 4 (01:24:06):
That was the game in which Sam Darnold threw four
interceptions and they still and it was still a twenty
one to nineteen game.

Speaker 5 (01:24:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:24:14):
But Sean McVay just had a kid. Oh so there's
that potential dad strength. Sure that gets brought into the equation.

Speaker 4 (01:24:22):
Now from Thursday to Saturday, and I'm just going Marquee
games here, Packers Bears should be a doozy at Soldier
Field Sunday. Every Bills game now is important because of
the gap that they made up on the New England Patriots,
and the Patriots have to travel to Baltimore on Sunday
Night football. That's a massive game. Other games, you're looking

(01:24:45):
at teams that are just trying to avoid a bad loss.
Chargers against the Cowboys, who are essentially eliminated, Chiefs Titans.
I could really care less. Buccaneers Panthers. Are we sleeping
on this one at all? Both teams tied and division
That's a spicy game. Yeah, they played twice down the
stretch Buccaneers Panthers Sunday in the one o'clock window. How

(01:25:09):
about the Jags Broncos. Broncos obviously riding high, but this
Jaguar team Austin, you were on them early in the
season under Liam Cohen. This is the most confident I
think we've seen. Trevor Lawrence. I agree with that Steelers Lions,
put up or shut up? Time for the Detroit Lions,
as I mentioned, Patriots Ravens, and then Monday Night Football

(01:25:31):
you get the Niners taking on Philip Rivers and the
Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. It should be a
fantastic and fun Week sixteen in the NFL College Football
Playoff games. The first round also get underway Friday and Saturday.
Big Sports Weekend heads ahead. We'll finish up our number two.
Next Chad Brenda will kick off our number three. Since

(01:25:54):
he three to sixty ESPN fifteen to thirty, Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (01:25:57):
You've been listening to football in the Natty on ESPN
fifteen thirty. The official home of the Cincinnati Bengals is
Tony Pikes Cincy three sixty About Cincinnati from Cincinnati, sponsored
in hard by Penn Station East Coast Subs, hand crept

(01:26:18):
It hot grilled subs, fresh cut fries in lemonade. It's
all about good taste. Penn Station, East Coast Subs. Order
on mine today. This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 4 (01:26:35):
All right, welcome back. It is our number three, thanks
to Penn Station. Thank you for listening on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Let's dive right into it because
tonight there's a return happening. It's the return of Jisel
James to the University of Cincinnati men's basketball program as
they get ready to take on Alabama State tonight. They
take on Clemson on Sunday. Let's talk some hoops. Let's

(01:26:57):
talk a little Bearcat football as well. Let's do so
with the man from Bearcat Journal himself, Chad Brendle. Nice
enough to join us today, Chad, how are you doing.

Speaker 5 (01:27:08):
Good? It was Kean not available today or well?

Speaker 4 (01:27:11):
With news like this, Chad, you got to go right
right to the top of the food chain. I feel like, okay, okay,
you and I have spoke.

Speaker 3 (01:27:19):
We spoke about this on air last time.

Speaker 4 (01:27:21):
I think you filled in for Moegger about Gisel James
just kind of being around, and you know, he's being
showed on the jumbo tron and then all of a sudden,
I flip on the game over the weekend at Georgia
and he traveled and he's there in Georgia with the team.
And fast forward to today, we know now that Gigsel
James is back on the roster. What has changed from

(01:27:46):
the statements we've heard all along from west Miller that
he's not going to be on the team this year,
but he's around the team. What has changed from then
to now?

Speaker 5 (01:27:55):
Well, then they were either undefeated or had a close
lot off against Louisville, and now they're six and four
and about to go into the Big twelve. So I mean,
you know, we can get into this a million different ways.
And I can tell you there's concerns about Dalen Cells

(01:28:18):
team's back, and Tyler McKinley's knee, and with Jaleen Haynes
already out there, they're getting pretty low on numbers. And
you know those things are to an extent true, but
they need a spark, they need they better find something
because what they're doing isn't working. And on January third,

(01:28:39):
you host Houston, and if you're going to figure it out,
the time to figure it out. That clock is ticking.
Gizzl is that practice. He's been working with the team,
So I guess you see if it works.

Speaker 4 (01:28:54):
So for me, it's one thing to say, Okay, Jizzle's
back on the team. It's another thing to say, Okay,
how does Jizzle impact this team. Kirk Crisa has not
been what the Bearcats I think had hoped in any
sense that he would be. I know Tillery has seen
his minutes diminishing. You still have Daydae Thomas. We watched
Day Day and Jizzle a lot last year. How does

(01:29:15):
he help this team at the guard position?

Speaker 5 (01:29:19):
He gives you a high major guard. And look, there
are reasons to be concerned about Jizzle's overall game. I
talked about it a lot last year. He's inefficient. He
takes a lot of tough twos, he doesn't shoot well
from three, he doesn't get to the free throw line

(01:29:40):
a lot. For a team that's struggling in offensive efficiency.
This isn't just a you know, plug this guy in
and all of a sudden the offense is going to
be fixed in a lot of ways. But he's also
a guy that scores a lot of points for a
team that struggles to score points. Yeah, so some of

(01:30:02):
it you're going to have to And look, they've lived
with it for two years. They're going to live with
it for the rest of this year. It looks like, like,
you know that there are some shortcomings, some things that
he doesn't exactly you know, do that jump off the page.
But you can put the ball in his hands and

(01:30:23):
you're pretty confident that he's going to be able to
put points on the board. It might be you know,
four of thirteen putting points on the board, but you're
adding a guy that can get you fifteen to twenty
points on any given night for a team that's struggling
to score like that, that's the most obvious thing. I think.

Speaker 4 (01:30:46):
Is there a confidence issue in the team anytime a
team struggles early in the season, I would I would
believe you you worry about confidence. Does this bearcat roster
at this point in your opinion have a confidence issue?

Speaker 5 (01:30:59):
I think that your game would say absolutely, because you know,
at the early points of that game, things looked really good.
But then you know they held up, like they got
out to that nine point lead, and they held it
for a while, and you're looking at it and going, Okay,
we didn't see like Louisville. They got up early, and

(01:31:21):
then Louisville erased that deficit in the blank of an eye, right,
But then the problem started and Georgia started to get
going a little bit, and Cincinnati didn't have any answers,
and then as you got through the second half that
progressively got worse. That tells me there's a confidence issue.
That tells me that they don't have anything that they

(01:31:45):
really believe. Then to stop the bleeding, you know, I
think there was a point in the second half they
were down seven, they had gotten a couple stops, and
if the offense had been functional and productive, you can
get right back in that game. And that's It's an
okay Georgia team. I think they're going to be fine
in the SEC, but I don't think they're going to

(01:32:08):
be competing for an SEC championship like that big team.
You should be able to get back in that game
and at worst, you know, battle to the end. And
instead they had a couple possessions go the wrong way
and next thing you know, it's thirteen, then it's fifteen,
then it's seventeen. And that tells me, Yeah, they're searching

(01:32:31):
for what do we do when you know, when things
stop working, how do we get out of it? How
do we get back on track? And I think we've
seen that in all these games that they've lost or
the games that they haven't played well in. They play
well in fits and starts. They'll play well for five
seven minute stretches, and then there'll be a ten minute

(01:32:53):
stretch that it looked like, you know, they all just
met each other in June. And that's not conduced the
winning at a high level?

Speaker 14 (01:33:02):
Is it?

Speaker 4 (01:33:03):
And I get you turn back to Jisel and maybe
you find a spark there. You know this team better
than anyone, Chad is Is it too late for this
team to turn this season around? When you look at
I'm watching a lot of basketball. Arizona BYU Houston. You
can go up and down the list, teams in the
top ten, teams in the top twenty five, teams that

(01:33:25):
are just outside the top twenty five. You watch basketball,
You've watched this team, and I know they have talented players.
Is it too late for this team to turn it around?
Or do you see a path in which they could
get things turned around for this season?

Speaker 5 (01:33:41):
I have a hard time seeing it, if we're being honest.
I mean, you've got six or seven teams at the
top of this league. I just don't how do they
beat Houston. Arizona BYU Texas Tech. Yeah, you know, you
go to Kansas, you go down the list, and I

(01:34:02):
just I look at those games and I go out
of Cincinnati. Win a couple to get back in this thing.
They're gonna have to get a couple of big scalps.
You're you're gonna have to have a couple You start
at six and four, you're in a hole. You got
a ton of grant with Yeah, a good cleansing team
that's well coached, and they're gonna make you pay for

(01:34:25):
for mistakes that you make. So yeah, like you have
to be Clemson Sunday. Don't feel great about that. Let's
not talk, Let's not look over. I was, hey, let's
come was leading Duke yesterday for a good portion of
that game. That's the after Christmas, the dreaded after Christmas

(01:34:48):
game that teams have always kind of looked flat in.
So yeah, I don't The path is uh, the path
has grown over with tickets and thorns and you better
have a real good machete to slice your way through it.
Because I mean, we knew the tough at the top

(01:35:11):
of this league was going to be tough, but they
can they beat an improved Oklahoma State team. Uh, you
know there's a couple in that group that boy, if
you lose one or two of those games, sure, then
you're you're swimming even farther upstream. And do you feel

(01:35:31):
good about this team going on the road and beating
anybody at.

Speaker 39 (01:35:35):
This point in time?

Speaker 5 (01:35:35):
So that includes Clemson and nine Big Twelve games so
it doesn't feel great, Tony. And you know this is
probably why Gisel James is coming back tonight, if we're
being completely honest.

Speaker 4 (01:35:48):
Outside of that, the football squad is preparing for a
bowl game and they're doing so with a very depleted
now secondary. They don't have their cornerback coach anymore. He's gone.
Brendan Soaresby has left. How difficult is this game itself
going to beach at against the Naval Academy who will

(01:36:09):
not be resting players. No, players are opting out of
the bowl game for Navy, a team that leads the
nation in rushing yards per game. How difficult One is
the opponent for the bowl game, and two putting together
the roster and preparing with players that are opting out
and leaving.

Speaker 5 (01:36:26):
Yeah, I mean, look, if you're in Cincinnati situation where
you got guys preparing for the draft and guys entering
the transfer portal and you're going into bowl season, the
last thing you want to see is Navy pop up
as your opponent. Yeah. They are going to be exactly
who they are that they are going to play one

(01:36:47):
thousand miles an hour. They are going to play a
brand of football that I mean there's what like four
guys on this roster that didn't even really play when
Cincinnati left the American Athletic Conference. They don't know Navy,
and what did we see. If you go back to
when Navy entered the AAC early, when you're first getting

(01:37:09):
a look at Navy in the triple option, it's really difficult.
I mean, they rushed for what eight thousand yards in
that one game in twenty seventeen or whatever it was.
And then as UCU saw them more and more and more,
the team became familiar with it and they were able
to shut them down. But in a one off That's

(01:37:31):
the danger of playing Navy is it's new. It's something
you're not used to. It's a style you're not accustomed to,
and they just are unrelenting in attacking you offensively. Their
defense is not great. But you're without Brendan Soursby, You're
probably going to be without Tawie Walker and Havin Pryor

(01:37:54):
your line is there. I think you're going to have
most of your wide receivers, so there will be something,
there will be something to fall back on, but boy,
you're definitely not looking at one of the most efficient
offenses in the country and Tony, how much did we
talk about time of possession? Oh boy this year?

Speaker 3 (01:38:14):
Yes? Correct?

Speaker 5 (01:38:16):
What fifty to ten?

Speaker 3 (01:38:18):
Yep?

Speaker 5 (01:38:19):
On January third? Like, what's the record for what a
team has possessed the ball? That part terrifies me.

Speaker 4 (01:38:30):
Yeah, without a doubt. And now the possessions, Chad become
even more important. And you're going to be running possessions
without Brendan Sorosby. I know we'll talk about the Bowl
game with Samage Jones and Brady Lichtenberg. I would have
to imagine that the answer for quarterback next year is
not currently on this roster.

Speaker 5 (01:38:51):
I can't imagine that it is. Look, I'm sure Samage
Jones is going to have a chance to compete for
the starting job. They had a bunch of money to
pay Brendan Soresby. Do I think they're gonna go pay
a quarterback what they were willing to pay Soresby. No,
nor should you unless it's one of the you know,
absolute top guys in this class. I don't think that's

(01:39:12):
gonna happen. But you've got money to go get a
starting quarterback, you have to go do that. You have
to find a guy that you believe in and that
fits your system, and that you think, I really think
it's important in this era of college football that they
do what they did with Brendan Sorosby. You find a

(01:39:33):
little bit of a younger guy that you trust, and
you've watched the tape and you think that you can
get not just one, but hopefully at least two good
years out of And that's that's what they're gonna be
tasked with.

Speaker 4 (01:39:49):
How how difficult does the rebuild become? And I know
we've had this conversation three years, five wins, seven wins,
But if you look at this roster and and Keegan
has pointed this out before, this roster has NFL talent.
They've got a quarterback, they had a quarterback in Swersby
who's going to go make a lot of money elsewhere
at a high major school. Do you view this year
as as a disappointment because on the outside, I think

(01:40:11):
a lot of people at the start of the year
would say, Okay, seven wins, I'll get on board with that.
The way in which it happened, with the talent that
this roster had, does seven now, looking back on it
feel a little bit disappointing.

Speaker 5 (01:40:24):
It feels like a missed opportunity. I don't know that.
It's it's we're in this world now where everything is
like awesome or everybody has to be fired like that.
There's no middle ground in sports anymore. I think the
season was okay, but I think you missed your The
window was as open as it was going to possibly get,

(01:40:48):
especially at seven and one going into November and having
a chance to compete all the way to the end
for a spot in the conference schampionship game. And look,
Utah beat them like Utah was clearly the superior team
on that day.

Speaker 9 (01:41:08):
For sure.

Speaker 5 (01:41:10):
Arizona and BYU Cincinnati did not play well and were
still within one score late in the fourth quarter. Yeah,
you got the ball against Arizona down six with a
chance to win the game. You've got DYU down six.
If you get a stop, you're going to get the

(01:41:31):
ball back and have a chance to win the game.
And they didn't get it done in either of those situations.
And then I think you could you could feel it, Tony.
You were there, You would know better than me. They
felt deflated against TCU because they were playing for the
conference championship the entire way, and that was possible all

(01:41:53):
the way through the end of the BYU game, and
then it looked like kind of the wheels sell off
in in Fort Worth. But I don't think that Arizona,
by U or TCU were It didn't look like Utah,
where Utah was just supremely talented. They were the better built,

(01:42:15):
better constructed, better performing football team. You had three opportunities
even just to get that one win, to get to
eight and feel like this season was a big success
at seven. Losing your last four now you're staring down
the barrel of Navy where you might lose your last

(01:42:35):
five again to end the season. It's hard to say
that's anything but a disappointment.

Speaker 4 (01:42:41):
Without a doubt, it is a tough time right now
around the University of Cincinnati again. Gisel James back Alabama
State tonight a game on Sunday. There is a lot
out there as it relates to the Cincinnati Bearcats chand
for those looking to follow with the coverage or maybe
gift that coverage to someone in their lives that's a

(01:43:03):
Bearcat fan. What do you got going on a Bearcat journal?

Speaker 5 (01:43:08):
Obviously everything you could possibly want to know about all
the things that you just mentioned. Uh, we've got the
podcast and video network. Keegan does a phenomenal job on
the writing side covering everything that that's going on. We'll
see what happens tonight with Alabama State. You're not you're
not gonna want to miss this one, Like what does

(01:43:28):
moseay be good or be interesting?

Speaker 3 (01:43:30):
That's it.

Speaker 5 (01:43:30):
Tonight's going to be interesting. And then guess what, ton
I'll see you tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (01:43:38):
Oh you won't. I'm off tomorrow, Chad, you'll see Austin.
It'll just be us, Chad. Sorry, yeah, I get it. Sorry, No,
that's fine, you know once, I know that's fine once.

Speaker 5 (01:43:53):
Uh, you know, I was. I was out to dinner
one time, I got the lunch one time, a couple
of weeks to go, and the two ladies sitting next
to us. The one lady was talking about telling a
long story about her husband, and like every ninety seconds
she would go, but it's fine, No, it's fine. I
mean it's fine. Yeah, no, it's fine, and like it's

(01:44:14):
wanted to look over go it's not fine, lady, but
trying to convince yourself it's not fine. So my reaction
to Austin being there tomorrow, it's fine.

Speaker 3 (01:44:24):
So fine everything's fine. That's fair.

Speaker 4 (01:44:27):
Everything's going well. Chad, enjoy catching up with Austin tomorrow
and thanks for catching up with us today.

Speaker 5 (01:44:32):

I was gonna say, did you ever have a Blacklackberry?

Speaker 5 (01:46:00):
I did?

Speaker 3 (01:46:01):
That was the best phone I've ever had. Absolutely, I
would take my BlackBerry back right now if I could.
I missed the BlackBerry and the simplicity of those days. Yeah,
I thought I was so cool with that like big
ass keyboard yep, and on it yeah, and the little
like roller bawl thing. Oh yeah. And then they came
out with a fully touch screen BlackBerry. That just and

(01:46:24):
that was the worst phone I've ever had. Yeah, that
was awful. What about the Bucked Up Bowl?

Speaker 40 (01:46:30):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (01:46:31):
That I don't think is real. That was a real one.
That was the one already played, that was playing between Washington,
the LA bucked Up Bowl.

Speaker 4 (01:46:38):
Bucked up. There was sixty three people there, I thinkp
What about the America Online Defiance Bowl.

Speaker 3 (01:46:45):
America Online Defiance Bowl, Yep, I'm gonna say that's real.
That has made up. No way that is made up.
You're kidding Defiance like Defiance College.

Speaker 5 (01:46:56):
That's it.

Speaker 4 (01:46:57):
What about the sixty eight Ventures Bowl? That's probably true,
that's a true one. Yeah, that's a true one. Sounds
like some sort of like crypto company or something.

Speaker 5 (01:47:05):
It is.

Speaker 4 (01:47:06):
It's probably a crypto company. Sixty eight Ventures. Yeah, how
about the Electric Data Systems love Ball Love Bowl love Ball.

Speaker 3 (01:47:14):

not real.

Speaker 4 (01:47:30):
Let me see, I wrote a company. You like, are
you coming up with these yourself or you're making them money? No,
there's a uh, there's an actual generator. There's a there's
an online generator.

Speaker 28 (01:47:41):
Um.

Speaker 3 (01:47:45):
Some of these are just so stupid. Exon Mobile Focus Bowl,
Focus Bowl Focus. That's not real. It's not real. Yeah,
thats gonna say. The company is a real. Yeah, but
the bulls are not. The Salute to Veterans Bowl, that's
probably a real bowl. That is a real one. Where's

(01:48:07):
that one being played at the Salute to It's December seventeenth.
I know that that's tonight. Oh that is tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:48:17):

Speaker 3 (01:48:29):
That is true? That is, aren't you a Military Bowl champion?

Speaker 5 (01:48:34):

Speaker 3 (01:48:35):
No, I didn't play in the Military Bowl. Oh I
thought you that my brother played in the Military Bowl. Okay,
did he win?

Speaker 5 (01:48:40):
They won?

Speaker 3 (01:48:41):
They beat Temple, all right, they did beat Temple in Devon. Yes, yeah,
So shout out to Devon, like, who's the best athlete
out of all you guys? Because in my family you
played Obviously, Devon played at a much bigger institution, easy,
Doug player and your dad, yeah was, if I'm not

(01:49:04):
mistaken a linebacker, he was. Who's the best athlete out
of the four of you?

Speaker 32 (01:49:09):
Me?

Speaker 33 (01:49:10):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:49:10):
And I think all other three would say that. I
don't know if I think they would say that as well.
I think how tall is Devin compared to you? Probably
in shorter okay, but he's got you in strength by
a mile.

Speaker 4 (01:49:24):
Yeah, now I would say that. They They would also
openly tell you that they worked harder than I did.

Speaker 37 (01:49:29):
I was.

Speaker 3 (01:49:30):
I think I was more naturally geted as an athlete.
What could have been? What could have been? For sure?
But yeah, I would say it's me. And then two A,
two B, two C I'll put them all on that
second level. I got one for you. Okay, the SRS
Distribution Las Vegas Bowl, that's got to be true. That

(01:49:50):
is real. That's got to be a bowl. That's Nebraska
against Utah. Okay, the final game for old Kyle Whittingham
or whatever his name is. That's true. What about the
uh rustin Will Holiday Bowl? Holiday Bowls real? That's real?
What about the Emerson Electric Company Pineapple Bowl?

Speaker 6 (01:50:09):
Is not real?

Speaker 3 (01:50:11):
The Pineapple Bowl? What about the Go Daddy Happy Bowl?
Is Go Daddy still a thing? I'm asking you? Is
it a bowl? Is Danica Patrick still around? Is it
a bowl? No, it's not a bowl. I remember when
GoDaddy dot com was like a thing? What what even
was that you remember seeing Danica Patrick? I think it
was like an opportunity if you wanted to make your
own website. Okay, GoDaddy dot com and yeah, there's still websites.

(01:50:36):
Gateway Computer's Happy Bowl that I would believe is real?
Not real?

Speaker 4 (01:50:40):
Okay, Activision Blizzard responsibility Bowl.

Speaker 3 (01:50:46):
Responsibility. I'll tell you what. Activision and Blizzard have a
responsibility to fix Call of Duty because they've screwed it
up over the last couple of years, Activision and Blizzard.
But that's not a real bowl.

Speaker 4 (01:50:58):
It's not a real bowl. What about the Cricket Celebration Bowl. No,
I'm starting to that's real. Yes, Celebration Bowl, Cricket Celebration Bowl.

Speaker 3 (01:51:07):
I was starting to get Like I thought, I was
starting to catch on, like those at a random word
followed by a random company.

Speaker 4 (01:51:13):
Nope, so shut Out Celebration Bowl is real. Shut Out
the generation land dot com.

Speaker 3 (01:51:19):
You're saying, Hell, yeah, I don't know anything about these
bowl games.

Speaker 4 (01:51:23):
Oh of course you've got the uh the Snoop Dog
Bowl of course at Miami of Ohio.

Speaker 3 (01:51:29):
Snoop Do DOUBLEG. That's right. Thrifty Car Rental Bowl, No,
that's real. Really I should know that I rented a
car from thrifty once and it was a miserable experience.
Uh really, yep, what bowl are they? What bowl they have?
Where's that at? Is that somewhere in Atlanta? I literally
just closed out the page. Come on, sorry, Xbox Bowl.

(01:51:52):
PlayStation doesn't have a bowl, but Xbox does. I don't
think PlayStation has one anymore, but they did they used to. Yeah. Uh,
San Diego is apparently where the Thrifty Car Rental holiday.
But of course the Bushes Boca Rattan Bowl.

Speaker 3 (01:52:10):
Do you like baked beans? Nope? Do you like black beans?

Speaker 5 (01:52:13):
Nope?

Speaker 3 (01:52:13):
You like pento beans?

Speaker 5 (01:52:14):
Nope?

Speaker 3 (01:52:14):

Speaker 4 (01:52:18):

Game above Sports Bowl?

Speaker 3 (01:52:23):

Speaker 3 (01:52:33):

Lab Birmingham Bull Yeah, that's true, that's true. All right,
let's take a break. I started to catch you on there. Yeah,
you got me at the end. You got me, Tony.
The Tiger Bowl, Yes, that's real. I saw that. Take

(01:52:57):
a break.

Speaker 4 (01:52:57):
We got your phone calls. Next before we get to
any ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station won Welcome Back
sincey three to sixty thanks to our friends at Penn Station.

(01:53:17):
Thank you for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station.
We got a few minutes here before we get Mowagger
in the room to take a couple of your phone calls.
Do we want to go to Montgomery or Fort Thomas
for Brian Austin.

Speaker 3 (01:53:31):
Whatever, whichever one you'd like. All right, let's start in Montgomery. Brian.
What's up?

Speaker 41 (01:53:36):
Hey? How's it going?

Speaker 5 (01:53:38):
How are you?

Speaker 41 (01:53:40):
Thanks for choosing the great city of Montgomery?

Speaker 3 (01:53:43):
Yes, yes, I was calling, you know.

Speaker 41 (01:53:47):
The last three games of the Bengals. Obviously, draft position
worries me. The thing that worries me the most is
like last year where they used the last few games
against bad quarterbacks as an excuse is to why Gino Stonus,
that's a great safety and gonna improve he improves so
much and this and that, and I feel like they're
gonna probably use that same sentiment with some of their players.

(01:54:09):
I would particularly like linebacker, corners, safety, Like the safeties
are still there, obviously, with they need to They needed
to overhaul both safeties, both linebackers.

Speaker 32 (01:54:22):
Uh.

Speaker 41 (01:54:22):
Defensive may actually looks a little better now that Miles
Murphy is playing a little bit.

Speaker 14 (01:54:26):
Better, but.

Speaker 41 (01:54:30):
I'm really scared about these last couple of games, they're
gonna use it. I mean they're playing against what quint
viewers Jakobe Briston and uh and uh Dowers Sanders. Yeah,
so I'm open both the day can make them look good.
Uh they have career games because uh, they we really
needed overhaul and they I feel like they use that

(01:54:51):
as an excuse as to why they didn't make many
changes except for a coordinator and just said that we
need knew a new coordinator that obviously look at the
coach to look at the Bengals and look how that
turned out. So sure, the players on the field, it
was what matters. And unfortunately they lack a lot of

(01:55:11):
talent on defense, even though that they just drafted two
young linebackers and a.

Speaker 10 (01:55:16):
Bad linebacker Jeb Yeah.

Speaker 41 (01:55:18):
So hopefully they can get better at evaluation too.

Speaker 4 (01:55:20):
So for sure, Brian, thank you man. Yes, sir, I
think that's the big thing. You You can't allow the
last three weeks to change what the majority of the
season's been. And I think we got caught up in
a little bit of that last year with the way
they ended the stretch. And again you are it's quen
you weres it's Jacoby Brissett and at Shador Sanders. That
cannot change how bad this season has been. Brian and

(01:55:42):
fort Thomas.

Speaker 3 (01:55:42):
What's up?

Speaker 42 (01:55:44):
Oh hey guys, how you guys going good?

Speaker 10 (01:55:47):
Good good?

Speaker 42 (01:55:49):
I was calling about that lovely press conference. I faced
my book and I turned that on as just a
just a breath of fresh air. I mean, we hit
on all six draft picks.

Speaker 3 (01:55:59):
Yeah, I was, I was. I was confused by that comment.

Speaker 42 (01:56:04):
Yeah, the one I hasn't been active and he is active,
he's he's lost. And the other guys that's been the
worst defense, the bangles of a head and how many years.
I mean, they were horrendous most of the year and
it was largely part of that draft. I just come on, Zach, like,
you hit it all and you're happy of the process
when you haven't been selecting good players, and come on,

(01:56:26):
give me a break.

Speaker 5 (01:56:26):
Act this is a joke.

Speaker 4 (01:56:28):
Yeah, I just I don't think that that went over
all that well. I'm completely in agreement. Brian, thank you
for your phone call as well. Yeah, Austin, when he
said that, I I kind of was taken back a
little bit. I don't think all six picks have been
hit and Ben Baby kind of following up with you know,
do you use this time to get younger plays? He said,
we played all six guys. Yeah, well there's more to
it than that. Okay, just because you played. Okay, one

(01:56:52):
more here and then we'll get a bra. We'll get
to Moager in just a moment. What's up, Paul, Hey,
I got.

Speaker 39 (01:56:58):
A little kid bit for you about eighty Lichtenberg. His
grandfather was actually the coach at Ohio University. A lot
of people didn't know this. This son, Tom Junior, which
was to Tom Senior, was the head coach at Ohio University.
Tom Junior actually went by the name of Bubba Lichtenberg.
He was actually a quarterback at Athens High School and

(01:57:20):
he was like the talk of the town before Joe Burrow.
I actually play against him in high school and he
did something well, it was a scrimmage, but he did
something that I still can't I still have never seen
anyone do it.

Speaker 42 (01:57:35):
I was, I was a defensive end.

Speaker 5 (01:57:37):
I was.

Speaker 39 (01:57:37):
I got off the end and I'm chasing him. He's
a right handed quarterback, so I've.

Speaker 9 (01:57:42):
Chased him to his left.

Speaker 39 (01:57:43):
I'm thinking he's either running out of bound or bounds
or I'm gonna plow him. The guy switches the ball
and throws a twenty five yard completed.

Speaker 5 (01:57:51):
Pass with his left head.

Speaker 3 (01:57:53):
That's pretty good.

Speaker 39 (01:57:53):
I've seen that ever in my life. Now, whatever happened
to Bubba?

Speaker 37 (01:57:58):
Now?

Speaker 41 (01:57:58):
It is so funny?

Speaker 39 (01:57:59):
Is I found out? When I saw that name on
the UC's roster. I was like, there's no way that
can't be his kids, And that's actually his kid.

Speaker 3 (01:58:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:58:09):
Hey.

Speaker 39 (01:58:09):
Then one more little kid that.

Speaker 41 (01:58:12):
I am actually friends with, Keegan Nickoson's.

Speaker 10 (01:58:15):
Brother, and I figured this, that's my favor show.

Speaker 41 (01:58:18):
Corbin is his name.

Speaker 39 (01:58:19):
He was actually an electrician uh On, a Predis electrician
that I worked with. And I figured this out because
I kept saying his name going Keegan Nickoson.

Speaker 5 (01:58:29):
I was like, why he had name?

Speaker 39 (01:58:32):
And I was like, there's no way.

Speaker 5 (01:58:33):
So I actually asked Corbin.

Speaker 39 (01:58:34):
I was like, hey, man, I sitting my message on
Facebook saying hey is your brother Keegan? He goes, how
do you know my brother?

Speaker 5 (01:58:42):
Hey?

Speaker 3 (01:58:42):
Here's him right here?

Speaker 5 (01:58:43):
You kidding me? Yeah?

Speaker 39 (01:58:44):
So yeah, I said, because I hear him on fifteen thirty.

Speaker 3 (01:58:47):
So thanks, Paul, I appreciate you man, Thank you. All Right,
we got to get a break.

Speaker 4 (01:58:51):
Uh Mulager standing by to join us for quick hits
next the ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports station.

Speaker 3 (01:58:57):
From the Any Weather he Heating and dared.

Speaker 2 (01:58:59):
Now it's time for a quick hits on Tony Pike
sincey three sixteen.

Speaker 5 (01:59:05):
Yes it is.

Speaker 3 (01:59:06):
It's time for quick hits. Really, one final time for
Mo and I this week.

Speaker 6 (01:59:11):
You keep on fighting till the.

Speaker 5 (01:59:16):
There it is we.

Speaker 40 (01:59:19):
The champions Shippens. No time for the Spans or the
ball or anybody else, because we are the chap beyond.

Speaker 3 (01:59:38):
Wow of the world, of the NBA Cup, of the
NBA Cup.

Speaker 4 (01:59:44):
How are you doing? Wonderful NBA Cup last night? It
also James returns today.

Speaker 6 (01:59:49):
Life is good. Zach Taylor. Zach Taylor making the show
easy for me to do. Life is good, you know,
amid this period of darkness in Cincinnati sports, here you
have this beacon of hope coming from Las Vegas, the
New York Knicks winning the NBA Championship, avenging their finals
loss to the San Antonio Spurs from twenty seven years
ago or twenty six years ago, almost twenty seven years ago,

(02:00:12):
winning last night and not hanging a banner, because hang
them all at the same time next fall.

Speaker 4 (02:00:18):
That's the thing for me, not hanging the banner that
tells me that there are bigger goals ahead of this team.
We'll enjoy this one, yeah, but we're not gonna sit
back and celebrate this and we're not hanging n banners.
We're not hanging NBA Cup banners. It's championship or bus
for this knixt time.

Speaker 6 (02:00:34):
It's like when we got out our Halloween decorations, I
also pulled out the Christmas decorations. Sure right, I'm not
gonna kind of did both at the same time. Right,
talk at the Halloween stuff. I know, why go out
of my way to put up the Halloween stuff if
I'm just gonna have to go back and put up
the Christmas stuff. So I sort of put them both
up together. Same principal applies for the NBA Cup banner

(02:00:56):
and possibly an NBA championship banner.

Speaker 3 (02:00:59):
For the NBA Cup and the title in the same year.
Never determines what banners go up because I know that,
you know, Billy Joel has a banner, Harry Styles has
a banner.

Speaker 6 (02:01:08):
If you go to Heritage Bank Center, they have a
banner for fans for the Cyclones.

Speaker 3 (02:01:14):
That is pretty funny fans. I think Pete Rose has
his number reaching he does, he does, he does often
drop one time we just wanted to hack. So yes,
NBA Cup Champions, Congratulations, thanks so much. What else you
got coming up today?

Speaker 6 (02:01:30):
Things are not going well for the Bengals right now?

Speaker 8 (02:01:33):
Right?

Speaker 3 (02:01:33):
Would you agree? Why did Zach Taylor just make them worse?

Speaker 6 (02:01:38):
Like to me today, your job is to ensure that
we're not making it worse, and Zach Taylor just made
it worse. Like they can't do the easy stuff.

Speaker 3 (02:01:47):
They can the contract thing.

Speaker 6 (02:01:49):
Just hey, look, I'm signed for two more years. Don't
really want to talk about it. I hope I'm here
for the rest of my career. Like why now this?
The problem is Zach Taylor is the spokesperson and for
this franchise.

Speaker 3 (02:02:01):
Mike Petralia pointed out many times today.

Speaker 6 (02:02:03):
I'm surprised Zach wasn't forced to answer questions about the
snow not being blown off the seats.

Speaker 3 (02:02:07):
But there's what I want to get to today.

Speaker 6 (02:02:09):
Why make things worse? Why Zach had to know those
questions were coming, he had to have Why make things
worse by being a jerk? And by the way, just
so and I'll talk about this today as well, so
I'm not accused of just, you know, taking random shots.
To Zach Taylor, his question about the twenty nineteen Dolphins game, awesome.

(02:02:30):
I do not expect a head coach to talk about
the bright side of losing. I thought those were great
answers talking about that game in Miami, which did change
the trajectory the franchise because fortunately they lost. But like,
when it comes to your contract, what is the harmon going? Look,
I want the focus to be on this team in
this game, but yeah, I got two more years. I
hope I'm here for another twelve. Grateful to be here.

(02:02:51):
We didn't announce it. I had my reasons, the organization
had its reasons, but yeah, I'm here for two years.
Can we talk about something else? And I think most
there would have been like, okay, cool, let's talk about
Quinn yours or Shamar Stewart or will come up with
something interesting about this game? On some I had to
fact check though. There was a point where one of
his quotes was that they hit on all six picks

(02:03:12):
this year. Are we confident in calling all six picks
hits for this team? Shamar Stewart not sure. Barrett Carter, No,
if that's a hit. I played a good game on
had a good game, But I'm not sure.

Speaker 4 (02:03:27):
Anythink about Toz Brooks because now some A J. P.
Ryan's getting the most carries.

Speaker 6 (02:03:30):
Yeah, Dylan farrishide o think is pretty good.

Speaker 4 (02:03:32):
All six picks hits. No, happy with the development, happy
with the scouting department, complete alignment, Love's.

Speaker 3 (02:03:41):
Working side by side with Duke Tobin.

Speaker 6 (02:03:43):
I don't believe this complete alignment.

Speaker 3 (02:03:45):
I don't either, And you know, I said, Austin said.
It might be my favorite Zach press conference. There's so
much there.

Speaker 6 (02:03:51):
The best part was like the little smirk when it
was brought up to him, like, well, we're not allowed
to talk to ownership, and I just had this look
on his face like I don't know if I admire that. Yeah,
I don't know if I despise it. It's a lot
like a lot, you know, it can't really do this
justice on radio, but he sort of had that smirked
on his face.

Speaker 4 (02:04:09):
How important is it not to allow whatever happens in
the next three flood what has happened throughout the first fourteen.

Speaker 6 (02:04:16):
It's important because there is a track record go back
to the Andy Dalton game where he eliminated their Ravens
from the postseason on the fourth down toss to Tyler
Boyd where the Bills fans, you know, gave a bunch
of money to Andy Dalton's foundation, and Mike Brown sat
on the bus and was like, you know, yeah, don't
think we're that far away. Last year and Marvin Lewis,

(02:04:38):
who was gone, was suddenly not gone.

Speaker 4 (02:04:40):
So yeah, I last year we did the same thing.
We talked about how important was to win down the
stretch and how that would carry over, and it didn't
carry over.

Speaker 5 (02:04:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:04:49):
Look, I think these games are important. Shamar Stewart's gonna play, dude,
show me something. I think these games are important for
certain players and you can learn a little bit more
about them. But if they win these three games and
your takeaway is.

Speaker 3 (02:05:01):
Here, we go, We're good.

Speaker 6 (02:05:02):
We don't need to just take the off season off
kind of like you did last year. Whatever Airbnb you
rented last offseason again, rend it again and take the
coaching staff with you. No, I think number one, I
want DJ Turner to solidify the season that he has had.
I want to see more from Miles Murphy because the
recent glimpses have been very encouraged. Make a decision on Joseph,

(02:05:23):
very encouraging. Make a decision on Joseph, Osai, keep Joe
Burrow healthy. There are play the younger safeties and see
if you have something there. These games aren't meaningless in
that regard, but I am not going to allow any
amount of success they have over these last three games.
And by the way, my guess is they win all three.
They should are going up against quinn Ewers and the

(02:05:44):
Cardinals and the Browns, they should win all three of
these games. I cannot imagine any sane person would walk
away from three victories and go, you know, yeah, what
if only the season were twenty games, this would be
a playoff team, and then you wouldn't want to play him,
would you?

Speaker 3 (02:05:58):
No, nobody wants to play.

Speaker 6 (02:06:00):
Nobody is going to play because they're not good enough.

Speaker 4 (02:06:02):
When the committee sits down on Sunday, March fifteenth, yeah,
and they are weighing, you see, and what seed to
give them in the NCAA tournament. Do you have to
start with the team they were before Gigsel James and
the team they will be now going forward from tonight.

Speaker 6 (02:06:16):
I don't know that they'll say, well, you know what,
let's wipe away that loss to Eastern Michigan. I'm glad
Gigsel is back. If I would have said to you yesterday,
you see, he can get a player tomorrow who, over
his last thirteen games playing in the Big Twelve, average
sixteen and a half points a game. What did you say,
I'm in. That's what Gigsel James did deal. I've seen

(02:06:38):
people suggest he could disrupt the chemistry. What chemistry?

Speaker 3 (02:06:44):
What Kirk Cras It was just a minus thirty plus minus.

Speaker 6 (02:06:46):
These these guys look like a whole bunch of dudes
who just met each other, Like Gigsel's gonna disrupt the
Cat Welcome back. There's a long list of former Bearcats
and players from other programs who were told to leave
or left on their own, and then we're eventually welcome back.
So welcome back Jizsel. I hope he adds something. I
don't know that it's going to be enough for me
to think that they can beat Arizona, Houston, Texas, that

(02:07:08):
guy with Dave et cetera.

Speaker 3 (02:07:10):
But it starts tonight.

Speaker 4 (02:07:11):
Can't get any worse beat Alabama State, can't get any
worse and then beat Clemson.

Speaker 3 (02:07:16):
What's Alabama State's mascot.

Speaker 22 (02:07:21):
Y clones?

Speaker 3 (02:07:23):
But I don't know? Tigers, Jack, Wildcats, It's a hornet,
It's a hornet, Hornets. It's a hornets, Hornet, Cats, the Hornets.

Speaker 4 (02:07:32):
Tonight with Jizsel James's Next fifteen thirty Cincinnati sports station
Austin's Got three sixty tomorrow played in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (02:07:42):
Yeah, I heard that. Will he be there tonight? Have
a great rest of your.

Speaker 12 (02:07:46):
Windsdacklucky Cincinnati, Make us the number one preset on your

(02:08:08):
car radio and on the free, new and improved iHeartRadio.
Ad free never sounded so good.

Speaker 1 (02:08:14):
ESPN fifteen thirty.

Speaker 3 (02:08:15):
Everyone loves the football season.
