Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Tony Bike Cincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati,
sponsored in part by Penn Station East Coast Subs. Handcraft
it hot grilled subs, fresh cut fries and lemonade. It's
all about good taste. Penn Station East Coast Subs orderum
line Today. This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
All right, we're here to the third and final hour
of Cincy three sixty on a Tuesday. Thanks to our
friends at Penn Station. Thank you for listening. If you
follow along the week, we do have scheduled guests throughout
the week. We have scheduled press conferences that happen. For instance,
Zach Taylor speaks on Wednesdays. We carry that Scott Saderfield
speaks on Tuesdays, and we like to play that back
(00:50):
for you as well, especially with this Cincinnati Bearcat team
now coming off back to back lawsites with the bye
week sandwiched in between. They host BYU Saturday night. It's
an eight pm start, big noon kickoff is in town.
A very disappointing loss coming out of the Bay to Arizona.
They no longer control their own destiny, but they are
still mathematically eligible to have a path to the Big
(01:13):
twelve championship that would go away with a lost Saturday
night against b YU. So here is what Scott Saderfield
had to say in his weekly press conference earlier this afternoon.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Excited about this opportunity. B y U A great.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Team, Klan. He's done a phenomenal job there. Very mature team,
uh physical, big coached well. Defense is one of the
best defenses in the country. Offensively, you know, coming into
the season they thought, okay, well a new quarterback there
there may struggle a little bit, but black Mars played outstanding.
(01:46):
He's playing like he's a He's an older player, like
an experienced player that plays with great poise, throws the
ball really well and then can run the football, which
is you know, he's done a great job as a
dual threat, big running back, great great player. And then
number two is that Ali standing receiver. We played against
him two years ago, and eleven creates some big time plays,
(02:09):
has some great speed. I think they're very very good
in the special teams as well, So not not too
much weakness. When you think about BYU, you know a
team that's used to win, and I think they're twenty
and three in the last two years, So an outstanding
football team. You know, opportunity for US, our seniors, Senior
Day for US, so twenty two seniors.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Will be be coming out for the last time.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
So I'm sure there'll be a lot of emotions out there,
and guys like Gavin Garhart, He's going to make his
forty seventh start, which is incredible, you know, one of
the best leaders I've ever been around, and of course
Corleone and some of the other guys. I mean, it's
it's just a special group and so exciting day for
them as well.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Any questions you'd.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
Mentioned after the game that Evan Pryor and Caleb Goody
should be back this week, any update on that and
are you surprised how much you missed him?
Speaker 4 (02:58):
No, I'm not surprised we missed him. We certainly, you know,
two big playmakers for US that have great speed. I mean,
that's that's certainly something that you want to have on
the field. We feel good about both those guys being
available this week. Obviously, because the week goes on, we'll
know more, but feel good about those guys. Goodie for
sure will be ready to go. And prior I said
this last week he's very close last week.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
I feel still feel good about him being available this week.
Speaker 6 (03:24):
Running game, you had the two big explosive plays with Tawee,
but then I think he was ten for twenty six
and the rest of us carries. When you went back
and watched the film, what did Arizona.
Speaker 7 (03:33):
Do to quell that?
Speaker 3 (03:35):
And what can you do against be.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
Well on one of the big runs had him stopped
on the right side, he did a good job of
just bouncing it, you know, and creating a big play
on the back side of that run. They're a good defense.
I mean, we knew that coming in, you know. I
think I think we popped some good runs in the
first quarter. I think we had one hundred and forty
yards after the first quarter, so you know, some big
runs there, you know, to get us.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Some points on the board and score. But they're they're
good defense.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
They muddy up the front, a lot of movement, a
lot of twists, move using their linebackers. They're good in
the secondary, so they can do a lot of different things,
you know. And I think there are three safeties I
thought played really really good football as well.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Uh forty three's of man a good good football player.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
Played a lot of ball, you know, and I think
we just, you know, we're not consistent enough in the
run game there late in the game, you know, particularly
in the in the when we had we had the
one touchdown lead fourteen to seven. I thought our defense
at that point was getting them off the field and
holding the field goal attempts. And that that's where me like, offensively,
you know, we we needed to attack to get to
(04:40):
get up up to scores. You get up two scores, now, okay,
maybe a different ball game. We never were able to
do that. And then in the second half, when we
were moving the ball some, we couldn't get them off
the field.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
You know.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
We we score to make it a one possession game,
three point game was six and a half minutes, you know,
and then we got the ball back think a minute
and a half, you know, And you know, so we
just didn't did not play complimentary football. He like, when
when one side or the other needed some help, we
didn't do it. And I think that was a big
part of that game.
Speaker 8 (05:06):
Coach, you mentioned two standouts on the offensive side of
the ball for BYU. L. J. Martin and Chase Roberts.
What stands out about them? And what do you remember
from the last time you guys played. Obviously those two
had three touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Come on, yeah, good, good players.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
Well I remember size really I think you know number
two is a long player that can run, has really
good hands. I remember the player out there on our sideline,
you know, threats that sitting there, that look like he's
getting ready to pick the ball, and then all of a sudden,
two comes out of nowhere. It catches it and zig
zags and scores a touchdown. In the running backs, I mean,
I don't know how big two thirty two, twenty five.
He's a big back that that that has speed. I
(05:43):
think is he leading the big twelve and rushing maybe?
I mean he's a he's good and I think he
missed the game or two with some injuries, but he
came back. I mean, he's he's a really good player,
A very solid player, you know. I just think they're
very efficient in what they do offensively and in bachmeers
taking care of the football.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
You know.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
I think the one game they turned it over a
couple of times maybe against Texas Tech.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
That was the one game they lost this year.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
So they just very efficient offense and they're Therefore, you know,
when you play great defense, when the ficial you give
yourself a chance to win.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Scott.
Speaker 9 (06:15):
The last two games obviously haven't gone the way you
guys hoped for, But is there anything you can take
away from them that you think, this is what we
need to do to take that next step towards becoming
a championship caliber program in this conference, which you guys
have been close to this season.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Yeah, I mean, I just think you have to play
complete complete football game like you in all three phases.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
You have to be very very solid.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
I think about the teams that are that are good
in all three phases, they're usually the teams on top.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
I think, you know, think about Texas Tech right now.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
The way they're playing football BYU, the way they're playing
football all three phases are good. Even if you look
at a national scope, you know, like Indiana, who's done
an unbelievable job. Go look at there doing on offense
and defense, like they're top five in the country and both.
It's amazing to me, like how good you are at
all three phases. You know, if you have one side
of the ball that is not doing what they're supposed
(07:11):
to do, it is going to be hard to win.
You can still win, but it's going to be a
lot more difficult to win. So in order to be
that championship caliber team, you got to be really solid
in all three phases. Just like Saturday, I thought special
teams were solid. We were good enough to win in
special teams. Man, we did some good things. You know,
we gotta a little bit more consistent on other two
sides of the ball, I mean, as the bottom line
in that game. And then having said that, we still
(07:33):
had an opportunity, a chance to go win that game.
You just got to make a few more plays. It
just makes it a lot more difficult because the margins.
We talked about this all year, the margins is the
big twelve. Man, They're they're they're tight. You know, a
play hero play there could be the difference in the game.
And that's proven to proven to be true because.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
Look at Black Myers and swersby stats, they're almost carbon copies,
almost the same build, you know, same type player. Can
Brendan bounce back after two games obviously just had difficulty
with the man coverage and all that, and you kind
of know what's coming. Is it in him to bounce back?
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Yeah? I mean I think so. I mean I said
this after the game.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
I mean, you know, we had four drops, potentially five
drops in that game. If our guys catch the football,
then his stats are gonna look a lot different, you know.
And I think, you know, I think that's the partly.
It's not just Springding. I thought I thought he had
a really bad decision on the first play of the game,
like that was awful, But.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
Really after that, it really played pretty good. I mean
he threw the ball good.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
I mean, you know that post ball which has been
forty five fifty yards added to his stats.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
I mean, you got to catch that ball, you know.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
And I think you know, and our receivers will be
the first to tell you, yeah, I got to catch that,
you know. And I think, so it just not just
on one player. I mean, I think it's the whole team.
You got to protect good, you got to run the
good routes, you got to make the catches and you know,
so yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Can bounce back, you know.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
I think I think that's what we're practicing forwards, driving
forward to go out and play well and to be
clicking on all cylinders.
Speaker 6 (08:57):
How much man are you expecting to see against by U.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
There'll be they'll be some man. I mean that's what
they do.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
You know, play man, play three, they mix it up.
You known, play a lot of different things, you know.
I think, uh, you know, they're really good on defense.
I think they've created a lot of turnovers because of that.
I think their corners are good where they're supposed to be.
Their linebackers make plays. I mean a lot of people
talk about their linebackers. I mean their long can run,
their physical Yeah, I mean, they're they're they're a solid team.
(09:25):
So we'll we'll we'll see a little bit of everything,
but they're gonna do what they do.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
Does a part of you after the struggles with Man,
do you want to not really tear it down but
be more experimental to try something different, or do you
stick to what's gotten you to seven three?
Speaker 9 (09:40):
No?
Speaker 4 (09:40):
I mean I think we gotta we gotta obviously try
to do things that will get us, get us in
a position to make plays.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
So whatever that takes.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
You know, it's one thing that we can sit here
as coaches and we can draw up all kinds of stuff,
you know, and then our guys.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Have to go execute, you know. I mean, so it
takes both of that.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
You know, we have to put our guy position and
players in position to make then they.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Have to go and make the plays.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
I mean, you have to get the protection, you got
to make the throw, you got to make the catch,
you know. And it's difficult playing against good defenses. If
you guys look up defensive pass efficiency in our league,
Arizona or are they ranked top five Utah or are
they ranked six? I think you Arizona's three in the country,
(10:24):
their number six in the country.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
There's one hundred and thirty six team. They're pretty good
on defense. This team is too.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
I think this team's ranked thirteenth and pass official defense.
So you know, we're playing a lot of good teams.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
With that. When you're playing those teams, there is less
room for era.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
You have to be on point, like you have to
run Chris Brouts, you have to throw the ball on time,
you got to be able to make contested catches. So
all those things come into play, and you know, if
you're not, it's gonna be one of those days you're
gonna look up and look at the stats and it's
not very good, you know, And so so you got
to be on point.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
We got to continue to work to get better.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
Coach.
Speaker 8 (10:57):
You've obviously been around a lot of veteran leaders about
your coaching career. Is it gonna be a little emotional
on Saturday night seeing Gavin and Dante take the field
for the last time after pouring their heart and soul
into this program last year.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
It's this, it's the finale for those guys in knipper
Man and and and for those guys in particular, I
think about Gavin, who's committed as a sophomore here in
high school.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
That's a long time man he's been. You know, he's
been in his.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Blood, sweat and tears for the Bearcats and know and
for him to go out and I think it's just
that's the last time he knows he's gonna be running
out in the stadium there. This will be very emotion
for those guys, but also for US coaches because of what,
you know, particularly those guys have.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
Done for this program.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
They've seen a lot of change and coaches.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
New conference and all that.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
But man, they're great human beings and you know they
obviously have bright futures ahead for them.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
All right.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
That is a part of Scott's Saderfield from earlier today
Again I think it's cool for for a lot of
seniors on this team to get to go out with
a nip at night. From experience, there's nothing better than
a night game at Nippert Stadium. But the idea of
complimentary football. That's when this team was winning, and they
won seven games in a row, they were playing complimentary football.
(12:11):
And in each of these losses the last couple of games,
it's been little chinks in the armor, turnovers on offense inefficiency.
When you have a fourteen to seven leading, you get
the ball back four straight times, you got to go
put points on the board. You've got to expand that lead.
Defense has not gotten the stops. Special teams has not
been as strong. It's complimentary football and that's what the
(12:33):
best teams are doing. And I certainly agree to that.
But Scott Satifield alluded to it. Utah great defensive ranking,
Arizona great defensive ranking, BYU great defensive ranking. Guess what,
You've eventually got to win that game. You've got to
beat that team, and that has eluded this team for
the most part in the Scotts Saddlefield era. That has
(12:55):
to change. On Saturday night, you can't go to three
straight losses and then he can't open the door to
end the season with another four game losing streak before
a bowl game. It's just it is a very important
game Saturday night at Nippert Stadium. If you are holding
on and you're clinging to the hope that there is
(13:15):
still a path for the Cincinnati Bearcats, there are two
there are four two lost teams in the Big Twelve.
Utah already has the heads up against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
You would you would take the heads up against BYU,
so you wouldn't have to worry about them. But you
got a factor in Houston who still has to play
(13:36):
TCU and then Baylor. Not an easy stretch for Houston,
so that's possible. You would have to factor in Arizona State.
Arizona State going forward has a game against Colorado and
then they finish up their season against Arizona. That's a
possibility because we just watched that Arizona team play against
the Cincinnati Bearcats. The problem I think is going to
(13:57):
be Utah. Utah host Kansas State on Saturday, and then
they travel to Kansas on the day after Thanksgiving. So
there is still a slight path, albeit not ideal. Because
of the situation the Bearcats have put themselves in by
not getting that win against Arizona and continuing that idea
(14:17):
of win out and you control your own destiny. You
now got to count on the help of others. We
got plenty more to get to today, including your phone calls.
Five one, three, seven, four nine, fifteen thirty. We'll open
the phone lines back up. We've got UCBYU. We've got
Bengals Patriots. We've got FC Cincinnati and Inner Miami. You've

Whatever you want to talk about, give us a call.
Speaker 10 (14:46):
We'll do so.
Speaker 2 (14:46):

FC Cincinnati's chased for the Cup. Yes, then, fifteen thirty,
Cincinnati's Sports Station.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Shout out to the weather today. It is a little
bit purple ring going on today. Come on, maybe a
purple Friday at pay Corps. Oh, what do we think
about that? I don't want to take sides. All right,
we'll do that Friday with me. Make picks. Well, I'm
not here Friday. I can tell you who I'm gonna pick.
Who give me Saint X?
Speaker 7 (15:44):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (15:46):
Wow?
Speaker 10 (15:47):
There isn't an elder person who just said something really
offensive to me in a private text message. Okay, so
because of that, I'm out. Deal on elder, I get it.
Give me Rocky Boyman, Luke Keikley, who's it? Max Claire?
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Wow?
Speaker 10 (16:00):
In the sant X Bomber Chase Wolf, Chase Wolf, Yes, right,
we love the Wolf family.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Man.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Might just let this play for a while.
Speaker 10 (16:08):
I'll tell you what. I used to be the public
address announcer for Sidney Yellow Jacket Baseball, and we'd get
these yellow jackets, we'd get these rain delays. That's where
we'd go with and I just blast this. I'll tell
you the parents loved it. A little purple rain, Just
a little purple rain on a day like today. Come
well done, sing it to us friends, well done?
Speaker 11 (16:31):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (16:33):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (16:35):
All right, let's do this for a second. By the way,
thanks to Penn Station here and now number three.
Speaker 10 (16:41):
You think Prince ever had Penn Station.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
Absolutely, yeah, one decent did did.
Speaker 10 (16:51):
That's one of the craziest days on this show. I
thought you were lying through your teeth. Nope, let me
get this.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Uh, I'm I'm minding my business this morning, and I'm talking.
I'm looking at stuff with the Bengals and talk about
Trey Hendrickson, and we've talked about Jamar Chase and what's
going on around this team and certainly a big week
for the Cincinnati Bearcats. What I didn't have on my
card today was talking at all about the Reds or
Hunter Green. And then I came across the story by
(17:18):
Greg Kufner on Cincinnati Reds for SI, and it essentially
outlines how there are members of the Reds organization who
may be unhappy with Hunter Green. Now, we've seen a
lot of these trade rumors that have come up, and
you kind of just quickly shoot it down because it's like,
why would you trade Hunter Green. He's got one of
(17:40):
the most team friendly deals at all of baseball, and
he's a great starting pitcher. And then the more you
kind of read reading between the lines, you know he
had the groin injury he was rehabbing he reported symptoms
and canceled his own rehab assignment, but the MRI, according
to the and Terry Francona, came back clean. So it
(18:02):
kind of just got pushed on. Well, it's gonna be
when Hunter's comfortable. It's gonna bree when Hunter's ready to go.
I just feel like any time you read as much
about a player as we've heard or read about Hunter Green,
maybe there's more there. Maybe there's more there into teammate leader, clubhouse,
(18:25):
maybe there's more into how he was coming back from injury.
I don't know because we're not there, But does this
feel something to you, Austin that is is something that's
just kind of thrown at the wall, or do you
think that there's got some staying power here with an
article like this.
Speaker 10 (18:41):
I get this sense that the Hunter Green trade rumors
basically came from this story and the idea that there
was some sort of conflict between Hunter Green and the
Reds where instead of coming back, maybe at the timeline
the red expected him to come back, Hunter Green went
(19:03):
and got his own second opinion, third opinion. And I
think the word that Charlie Goldsmith used when he was
on our air over the summer. Was it's Hunter's timeline,
which would to me signal the idea of a disagreement
between the Reds and their medical staff and Hunter Green.
(19:24):
I would assume there might be a layer of distrust
there based off some of the injuries we've seen in
the past, and we've spent a lot of time on
this show making fun of and questioning the timelines and
medical staff that the Reds have. We're not doctors, we
don't pretend to be, but there have been multiple times
where players or managers or others have kind of put
(19:46):
their foot in their mouth based off of this staff.
And so I think Hunter was especially cautious with his
injury to the point where it was probably frustrating for
Reds fans, for other players on the team, for the
coaching staff. I'm sure all of it, and I would
assume that that's where the idea of a disconnect could
(20:09):
lead to a trade. That's how I read this story. Yeah,
and again this is us speculating. This is obviously nothing
we know. But I even think if you go down
on this article, Nick Krawl essentially addressed the rumors and said, look,
we're trying to do it's best for our team. I
don't want to rule anything out, but that's a hard
one to actually say, hey, we're going to trade the
(20:30):
guy that has a chance to be the ace of
your staff on top of the rotation guy going to
the postseason. But even that, it's not as reassuring as
shooting something down and saying no, we're not going to
move him. Well, I think that's Nick Krawl's way of
shooting it down. I don't think it was ever a
true consideration that the Reds would trade Hunter Green. I
(20:51):
think it was just, hey, this thing happened, and I
wonder if that would be enough for them to consider it.
I don't think the Reds ever really have considered it. Yeah,
doesn't feel like they have no and they shouldn't. There's
no reason to. We've talked about it a lot. He's
the eighty third or whatever it is, highest paid picture.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
You want to have a chance to win, it's with
Hunter Green.
Speaker 10 (21:10):
If the guy is making thirty million dollars and he
can't start and he's having these injuries, then that's a
different story. Maybe you do trade him, but he's not
and he's under control for a long time, and we
have seen when he's healthy he's as good as anybody
in baseball, and that includes guys like Paul Skeins, because
there was a stretch this summer where those two were nasty. Yeah,
just flat out and so too. Yeah exactly. So I
(21:33):
think that's like the the bread crumbs of like what
might have happened to like even consider this being a thing.
But I doubt that the Reds, at least Nick Krawl,
never really considered something like this.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Yeah, still something to watch for.
Speaker 10 (21:48):
But if that's the case, though that like there was
some sort of disagreement between what Hunter felt was best
for him and the Reds organization, I would give them
credit for allowing Hunter to go and do his own thing,
but also I would be working hard on that relationship
this offseason to fix it so that we don't face
(22:11):
this type of issue again, because that's not good for anybody.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
No, let's uh, let's take a call before we get
to a break here. Tim is calling in. Hello, Tim, Hey,
how you guys doings?
Speaker 3 (22:28):
Hey?
Speaker 12 (22:28):
I want to ask you, Tynan, how's the help of Soresby?
Because he was hurt the night game?
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Right, Yeah, Austin you heard him earlier. I believe he
said that the ankle was is okay?
Speaker 10 (22:40):
Yeah, our guy Keegan Nicholson. Yeah, he was asked earlier.
He says, is his ankle is good even though he
got rolled up on against Arizona.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Yeah, I think it inhibited from running late in that
game against Arizona. He did get rolled up on, but
as we learned today, he is healthy. Yeah, ahead of
b YU.
Speaker 12 (22:59):
All right, thanks a real quick. Hey listen, I'm an
I understand you want to tax is fine?
Speaker 10 (23:08):
Okay.
Speaker 12 (23:08):
I put a little side bet on a fun side bet.
Speaker 10 (23:11):
What do you got?
Speaker 12 (23:13):
I don't know, like uh uh hot some like like
they'll kind of him.
Speaker 10 (23:20):
I'll think about it, Tim, I'll get back to Okay,
all right, thank you, Tim. Okay, we'll think about it.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
That's some hot fun Sunday bets.
Speaker 10 (23:27):
I've I've picked against elder once ever and they won. Yeah,
so if I pick against him again, So you're trying
to help him. Perhaps I don't know you now unless
the person who you know said this awful thing to
me you're asking for, unless he apologizes, that could be
(23:50):
how you know and comes to an end based on
a text that you received. Already got a text. I
see how it is. You'll be sorry, Okay, you have
an opportunity to fix this. They don't want to fix it.
Now they're see what app They're doubling down. I don't

Hi.
Speaker 14 (24:33):
I'm Connie Britton, and I want to share with you
the experience of Donna in Washington. She writes, I got
injured about five years ago. I was let go when
because of the injury, I couldn't keep up with my schedule.
I've tried to find other work, but I'm sixty eight now.
No one wants to hire someone that old. This week
(24:57):
is tough, though, because I had to get my tooth fixed.
So I only have ten dollars in my checking account,
but it will be okay. I at least have food
because of this pantry. Millions of people face hunger, some
every day, just like Donna. The Feeding America network of
food banks helps provide over six billion meals to people

Schools are back.
Speaker 7 (26:03):
School is in session when the Bengals look to take
New England to task. Who new history class could get
this violent? Speaking of the patriots, I wonder how I
would look in a powdered wig. Probably not good coverage
begins at nine am Sunday, stream for free on the
new and improved iHeart Radio app or ESPN fifteen thirty,
(26:27):
the official home of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 10 (26:35):
I got to bring something up, Tony. Okay, and I
swear on everything, Okay, I am not trying to rage bait.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Now, listen, I promise you I'm not. When you say
something like that, yes, you are essentially saying I'm going
to rage bait.
Speaker 10 (26:51):
No, I'm saying this could be taken as rage bait,
but it's not because I don't want to get people
riled up. I swear to God, I'm not trying to
do that. So I was at the UC game on Saturday,
and I had a great time. A lot has changed
(27:12):
in the nine years since I had been there. Sure,
and people were lovely, people were wonderful. But I was
shocked that I saw at least five people because I
kept count at least five people wearing Ohio State football
gear inside Nippert Stadium for that big twelve clash between
(27:36):
the Bearcats and the Wildcats. I'm shocked by that number
one just because I know UC fans do not like
Ohio State. Sure and I'm just kind of looking for
an explanation, or is there is there something I might
have missed here? Well, because I could not believe what
(27:59):
I was seeing. And then I think at one point
there was a gentleman that saw me and was shocked
to see me. Now, I wasn't wearing Ohio state gear.
I tried to be as respectful as I could. I
had a red hat that said Cincinnati on it. It's
a it's a Red's hat, but it's just a Cincinnati
across the front. I was all black. I was trying
to look like I was on a coach sideline. But shocker.
(28:21):
I I couldn't believe what I had seen.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Now, Nippert Stadium holds around forty thousand.
Speaker 10 (28:27):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Anytime you get a big gathering together, you're gonna have
some eggs, some bad eggs in the building.
Speaker 10 (28:34):
Interesting.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
I would also imagine that with UC Arizona being a
noon game, that there were probably people in attendance that
probably double dipped.
Speaker 10 (28:44):
Oh that's a good point.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
That that watched the game and then made the drive
up to Columbus to watch the night game. In the show, Okay,
and maybe they were just already ready for that Okay,
makes sense.
Speaker 10 (28:55):
I just I like baiting to me. No, I swear
because I I debated even bringing it up, but then
I saw we got a call here from Yeah, what's
Matt want to talk about?
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Balling? Ain't easy?
Speaker 10 (29:07):
What aut balling?
Speaker 3 (29:09):
Hey?
Speaker 10 (29:09):
How's it going? Guys? Thanks for taking my call. Sure,
thanks for calling that.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Well.
Speaker 13 (29:14):
Yeah, Austin, I really appreciate you. I'm really calling to
talk to Austin. This is this is going to be
a Buckeye centered talk if that's okay with you, guys, Yeah,
I appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (29:25):
So basically what you're seeing is all these Ohio State fans.
Ohio State, we're going to carry the torch for the
state of Ohio. I've been talking with my UC fans
and they seem to really.
Speaker 10 (29:35):
Be okay with the idea. I texted them.
Speaker 13 (29:36):
I said, guys, I know things are kind of falling
apart in Clifton, easy.
Speaker 10 (29:40):
That's okay, I get it.
Speaker 13 (29:41):
But we can carry the torch for you in Columbus.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
We're going all the way. Austin.
Speaker 13 (29:46):
I want to hear from you. How do you feel confidence?
Why this year for our chance to repeat? Do you
have a confidence level?
Speaker 10 (29:51):
Uh? My confidence is an eight out of ten. And
the big thing that I'm most worried about is if
the Jeremiah Smith injury turns out to be worse than
we thought. And also Indiana scares the hell out of me.
Speaker 13 (30:10):
Okay, so was he limping before the game against Yeah?
Speaker 3 (30:16):
So.
Speaker 10 (30:16):
According to Ohio State's radio broadcast, he had quad tightness
that he had been dealing with the day of the game.
Quadrat He played like the first quarter and a half
they got up and then he didn't really play much
after that.
Speaker 13 (30:31):
Quad and Tony, this is the Power five conversation.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
This is being at.
Speaker 13 (30:41):
Not when you played, not when.
Speaker 10 (30:43):
You play big.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
Listen.
Speaker 13 (30:52):
Surviving this schedule on a week to week baseball, this
is this is tough football.
Speaker 10 (30:58):
We're talking about big ten.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Baby Rutgers is gonna put up a big fight. Greg
Ciano and his wood chopping.
Speaker 10 (31:07):
No chance we could beat him with.
Speaker 13 (31:08):
We could beat him with with me and Austin at
wide receiver.
Speaker 10 (31:11):
This week, what's your best route? They're bawling, Probably a
five pattern.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Maybe start picking up seven on seven championships instead of
three on three.
Speaker 13 (31:25):
I listen, hey, I played very well. I played exceptionally
well this year.
Speaker 10 (31:30):
I just I gotta I gotta build around myself. You
know that, you do.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
I get it, I get it, all right.
Speaker 10 (31:38):
It's that okay, thank you, thank you guys. You know
does didn't our guy Rocky boyman and he's like starting
to seven on seven leagues? I don't know, By the way,
who's to say? I mean, could we maybe build the team?
Could you throw?
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (31:51):
Do you think legit? You could? You know, if you
get a band of no, no, a band of misfits
like me and balling ain't easy, and a guy like
James or or Tearing Bland, he think we could win
some seven on seven Yes, with you at quarterback.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
And James would be my center. He'd be my least
confident guy to throw a ball to. By the way,
just to put a bow on this, five people out
of forty thousand is point zero one two five percent.
I know, I'm just putting that out there. No, I know,
like that's point zero one two five. Honest to god,
(32:25):
I was shocked. I really was. Well, you probably to
fifteen jerseys in Columbus too. You see jerseys. You see
maybe people were asked to wear black and that was
the only black shirt they had.
Speaker 10 (32:38):
Well, the one guy was not wearing black.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
He was.
Speaker 10 (32:43):
He was trying to stand out right. There was a
decent amount of Arizona fans there too. There was they
travel well, which that's historically they always do. I think
if I was a fan of another Big twelve team
like Nippert would be on my bucket.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
Cinnati would be a school I would like to come. Absolutely.
I'll tell you place a lot of people would like
to go to, Oakley Greens. Mullager's posted up there right now.
We'll go to him next. Posted on ESPN fifteen thirty
Cincinnati Sports Station.
Speaker 10 (33:10):
Hey, it's Maleaggar. Join me this afternoon.
Speaker 11 (33:12):
I'm doing the show from Oakley Greens in Oakley today,
starting at three oh five on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati
Sports Station. From the X Time Cooling Weather Center, here's
your forecast.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
This report is sponsored by indeed dot Com.
Speaker 10 (33:27):
When you're trying to find quality candidate, it's time for.
Speaker 7 (33:30):
Cincy three sixty quick hits on ESPN fifteenth.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
They're looking for mo.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
We found Moy's at Oakley Greens. The weather outside may
be frightful, but Oakley Greens inside, I'm sure is delightful.
Moe's there right now, Mo, what's happening.
Speaker 11 (33:43):
Well, we're getting ready for a show. This is going
to be a short show. We're done at five o'clock today. Wow,
the UK basketball pregame show is going to bump us
out of the way in our early Kentucky and Michigan
State in the Champions Classic at the home of the Knicks,
Madison Square Garden. But we're doing something special today here
at Oakley Greens. You know, it's it's the week before Thanksgiving.
Folks are getting into that festive mood. And so if
(34:06):
you come to Oakley Greens and if you are overserved,
our producer today, Drew wester Heidi, has offered to drive
people home. And what he has told me is tell
folks don't call an uber, instead call a Druber.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
If I stopped by to say hello today, will Drew
park my car?
Speaker 3 (34:24):
I don't know if we're doing that.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Yes, okay, knee, I've got this thing going on with
my knee.
Speaker 11 (34:30):
So five dollars. Valet plus A said, can I can
I chime in on your hundred green conversation please that
you guys were having. I think there is this belief
that is I think I think it's a misnomer that
the Reds have like this overabundance of starting pitching, which
allows them to just trade away all of their established pitchers.
(34:53):
At the end of the year, they were kind of
like running out of guys they had to go trade
for Zach Lettel. I think there's this belief that, like
they have so many pictures that they could just give
away Nickolodola or give away Hunter Green or like I know,
nobody wants to give those guys away. Number One, all
I hear is you can never have enough starting pitching. Okay,
well good, then don't just trade away dudes. Number two,
(35:16):
I'm not sure they have enough established starting pitchers for
them to be cavalier about moving on from guys who
are proven, whether that's Hunter Green or Andrew Abbott or
Nickoladolo or anybody else.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
What are you gout coming up on the show today?
Outside of some Green might just.
Speaker 10 (35:32):
Talk about that for a few hours.
Speaker 11 (35:33):
I like this. Paul Danner Junior is gonna be here.
He has written in this sea of like bad takes
about Jamar Chase. Count on Paul Danner Junior to write
the definitive, like mature, sensible, piece for the Athletic dot Com.
Paul and I are gonna talk a little bit about Jamar,
and then we're gonna talk about the team itself, Bengals
(35:54):
getting ready to play the Patriots, a million different issues,
Sean Saytz that's or in the four o'clock hour, Taylor
twelve Man's gonna call in at four forty five to
look ahead to the Big tilt on Sunday. We're gonna
spend some time on UC football, not so much Ohio
State fans being at the game, but I I this
(36:15):
program right now, right now is at a cross roads.
The Scott Saderfield era is at a cross roads. This
can now go one of two ways. They're not gonna
win a Big twelve title, They're not gonna play in
a Big twelve title game, but they have a chance
to make people feel good about a nine to three
season or make people feel like the program's identity is
they melt down at the end of the season. So
(36:36):
we're gonna spend some time on that as well. And
then I will do I will do one segment on
my own on Jamar Chase.
Speaker 2 (36:41):
Are you gonna do anything about UC Louisville Friday Night
or any guest or anything.
Speaker 11 (36:47):
Tomorrow on the show. Oh Wes Miller, Wow, the coach
of the Bearcats and John Cunningham. Unbelievable Bearcats will be
he is supposed to be on my show tomorrow. Unbelievable
Because what I am gonna do Wes Miller is having
a press conference at eleven o'clock. I am gonna go
to this press conference and I am gonna pull him
aside and say, Coach, we need to talk about this
(37:07):
UC versus Louisville game, and I need you to talk
with me about it. And so Wes and I are
gonna do that tomorrow and then hopefully because I don't
want there to be like more Louisville fans than Cincinnati fans.
You can't have that, No, So I don't tell people
what to do with their free time and money.
Speaker 10 (37:24):
This is one of my This is one of my
core beliefs.
Speaker 11 (37:27):
I don't tell people what to do with their time
and money unless I'm being paid to, but don't. I
don't want to hear see a r I we need
more Bearcat fans and Louisville fans. And so what I
am anticipating is once I have Wes tomorrow, fans are
gonna go. You know what, I'm gonna go see his
team upset the Louisville Cardinals Downtown.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
Makes sense, makes perfect sense, Jamar Chase, do you do
you appreciate the appeal in saying that if I really
wanted to spit, I would have been able to spit
on his face?
Speaker 3 (37:55):
Is that?
Speaker 2 (37:55):
Do you think that appeal carries anyway?
Speaker 3 (37:59):
No?
Speaker 11 (37:59):
Yeah, I think the I think the broader appeal is
there's never been a case like this where a player
has been suspended definitively for a game. Jalen Carter didn't.
He was ejected, but he technically wasn't suspended, so they
said time served. He's gonna get a one game suspension.
(38:19):
What I want to know is who takes his place.
It's gonna be Jermaine Burton. It's gonna be Jermaine Burton
diving into that playbook, going you know what, I can
be count I'm gonna show up on time, I'm gonna
be there, I'm gonna know which routes to run. I'm
gonna stay awake in the meetings, and Joe Flacco or
Jake Browning or whoever's playing quarterback for the Bengals on Sunday,
can rely on me? Or should they try Geno's don't
(38:43):
it wide receiver because he can't play safe? I don't know,
but no, the the idea of well, you know, if
I really meant to spin on him, I would have
spit in his face. Jamar, Come on, man, I love you,
but dude, just you spent, you got caught, Take your punishment,
pay your fine, move on up.
Speaker 10 (39:00):
A poll question that asked if Trey Hendrickson would play
again this season, eighty three percent said no. Where do
you stand on Trey Hendrickson in his future with the Bengals?
Speaker 3 (39:10):
Huh.
Speaker 10 (39:12):
It's one of the things I'm gonna ask Paul about.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
And it's weird because that, like, like what we talked
about this yesterday, Like Zach Taylor is never one to
like openly rule someone out on a Monday press conference.
And for the last two weeks it's been well, he's doubtful.
It's just been odd.
Speaker 11 (39:26):
He's doubtful, but he's weak to week, but he might
have surgery. He's a captain, but he's not going to Pittsburgh.
He's writing the kids book now, which is admirable. Like
there's there's just a lot of weirdness. I'm gonna guess
the answer is no. But there's still seven games to go.
It feels like it feels like, you know, they got
(39:46):
to play two more games and then this hell escape
of a season could be over. There's seven more games
to go. At some point, I think he's gonna want
to prove that he's healthy because he's about to hit
free agency.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 11 (39:58):
And so does he view it as I undermine my
asking price if I finished the season not healthy. Also,
he might need surgery at the end of the year.
And so if he's told you need surgery, doesn't I
don't know, man, that the Trey Hendrickson experience can be
described a lot of different ways. Right now, I would
go with weird. I'll guess he doesn't play because the
(40:20):
season is going nowhere. But man, with Trey, like, nothing
would surprise you. Like it wouldn't surprise you if he
doesn't play and he's rolled out but he still puts
the uniform on and stands on the sideline. It wouldn't
surprise you if, like, he doesn't play, but he sits
in the stands and he wears like Tennessee Titans gear. Like,
I mean, literally, no, it wouldn't surprise me if he's like, yeah,
(40:41):
I'm gonna play and then he shows up and doesn't
have his helmet on, Like no, No, outcome with Trey
Hendrickson would be surprising. So I don't want this to
end by the way I went in the franchise tag
him because I'm not. I still have topics, I still
have things I want to say about Trey Hendrickson. I
don't I can't end this, okay. You know, it's kind
of like a like a weird relationship that you're in.
Were you no, deep down inside, it's probably time to
(41:03):
move on, But then there's things about it, and you're like,
I just can't quit them. You know, those crazy operas
aren't kind of entertaining. That's kind of how I feel
about it today.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
This is it Finally mo his twelfth place MVP season
in twenty thirteen, where he hit twenty one home runs
and batt two eighty five the loan year in Cincinnati.
Is that enough to make Shin Sue Chew a Hall
of Famer?
Speaker 14 (41:26):
No?
Speaker 2 (41:27):
Is he on your ballot?
Speaker 14 (41:27):
No?
Speaker 11 (41:28):
Are you voting him in to be in the Hall
of Fame? Yes, I haven't really looked at the new class.
Is there anybody who's like a slam dunk first ballot
Hall of Famer on it in ancient suit chew.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
No, Austin, did you think of anybody.
Speaker 11 (41:43):
Carlos Beltround to me, agreed col Hamils and is un
I'd have to look at the numbers. Yeah, Cole Hamil's
pitch one of the best postseason games of all time
Ryan Brown in Game three.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
No, and not.
Speaker 11 (41:58):
Because of the steroids. Just a body of work is
not Hall of Fame worthy. I think Carlos Beltrans is,
and I think he's it's unfairly used against him. The
whole sign stealing thing in in Houston Shin suit Choo though,
was fascinating that one year here. Man. He was awesome,
And what I remember was when they didn't bring him back,
It's like, what do you got for shin suit Chu?
What are you gonna do to replace him? Like we've
(42:19):
got Billy Hamilton? Yeah, okay, but he can't hit, can
he Well he's really fast, Yeah, but he can't hit. No,
but he's really fast, Yeah, I know, but he can't
hit Canny. He's really I nobody like, he's not a
good offensive player, like he's never hit, So you're gonna
replace like the best leadoff hitter in the sport with
the guy who can't hit. Yeah, because he's really fast
(42:40):
and it just went round and around for years.
Speaker 2 (42:43):
Yeah, it's.
Speaker 14 (42:45):
Still going on.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
What about another former red Matt Camp.
Speaker 11 (42:50):
He's in the Hall of Fame as I'm concerned for
dating Rihanna.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
Okay, well that's that's it. We're Donerew, have a great show.
Tell Drew I'll be there soon.
Speaker 11 (43:00):
Drewper, he's the Drewper Drew takes. Do you take Venmo
for parking cars? Venmo's cash?
Speaker 3 (43:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (43:08):
Perfect, Okay, five dollars plus a tip to Valet.
Speaker 10 (43:11):
Can't wait to turn his microphone on.
Speaker 11 (43:14):
He's trying to be a great show. He can't wait.
Speaker 2 (43:18):
