Is Tony Pike Cincy three sixty about Cincinnati from Cincinnati,
sponsored in hardby Penn Station East Coast Subs. Handcraft It
hot grilled subs, fresh cut fries in lemonade. It's all
about good taste. Penn Station East Coast Subs orderum line Today.

(00:20):
This is ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
All right, welcome back. It is our number three thanks
to Penn Station. Thank you for listening on ESPN fifteen
thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Let's dive right into it because
tonight there's a return happening. It's the return of Jisel
James to the University of Cincinnati men's basketball program as
they get ready to take on Alabama State tonight. They
take on Clemson on Sunday. Let's talk some hoops. Let's

(00:49):
talk a little Bearcat football as well. Let's do so
with the man from Bearcat Journal himself, Chad Breundle. Nice
enough to join us today, Chad, how are you doing.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Good? It was Kegan not available today or well.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
With news like this, Chad, you got to go right
right to the top of the food chain. I feel like, okay, okay,
you and I have spoke. We spoke about this on
air last time. I think you filled in for Moegger
about Gigsel James just kind of being around, and you know,
he's being showed on the jumbo tron and then all
of a sudden, I flip on the game over the

(01:24):
weekend at Georgia and he traveled and he's there in
Georgia with the team. And fast forward to today, we
know now that Gisel James is back on the roster.
What has changed from the statements we've heard all along
from west Miller that he's not going to be on
the team this year but he's around the team. What
has changed from then to now?

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Well, then they were either undefeated or had a close
loss at against Louisville, and now there's.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Six and four and about to go into the Big twelve.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
So I mean, you know, we can get into this
a million different ways.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
And I can tell you.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
There's concerns about Dalen Cells team's back, and Tyler McKinley's knee,
and with Jalen Haynes already out there, they're getting pretty
low on numbers.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
And you know those things are to an extent true.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
But they need a spark, they need they better find
something because what they're doing isn't working.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
And on January third, you host Houston, and if.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
You're gonna figure it out, the time to figure it out.
That clock is ticking.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
Gisel is that practice.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
He's been working with the team, So I guess you
see if it works.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
So for me, it's one thing to say, Okay, Gizzle's
back on the team. It's another thing to say, Okay,
how does Jizzle impact this team? Kerkkrisa has not been
what the Bearcats I think had hoped in any sense
that he would be. I know Tillery, he has seen
his minutes diminishing. You still have Daydae Thomas. We watched
Day Day and Jizzle a lot last year. How does

(03:07):
he help this team at the guard position?

Speaker 3 (03:11):
He gives you a high major guard.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
And look, there are reasons to be concerned about Jizzle's
overall game. I talked about it a lot last year.
He's inefficient. He takes a lot of tough twos, he
doesn't shoot well from three, he doesn't get to the
free throw line a lot For a team that's struggling

(03:34):
in offensive efficiency. This isn't just a you know, plug
this guy in and all of a sudden the offense
is going to be fixed in.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
A lot of ways.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
But he's also a guy that scores a lot of
points for a team that struggles to score points. Yeah,
so some of it you're gonna have to and look,
they've lived with it for two years, they're going to
live with it for the rest of this year. It
looks like like, you know that there are some shortcomings,
some things that he doesn't exactly you know, do that

(04:10):
jump off the page. But you can put the ball
in his hands and you're pretty confident that he's going
to be able to put points on the board. It
might be you know, four of thirteen putting points on
the board, but you're adding a guy that can get
you fifteen to twenty points on any given night for

(04:33):
a team that's struggling to score like that.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
That's the most obvious thing. I think.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Is there a confidence issue in the team anytime a
team struggles early in the season, I would I would
believe you you worry about confidence. Does this bearcat roster
at this point in your opinion, have a confidence issue?

Speaker 4 (04:51):
I think the Georgia game would say absolutely, because at
you know, at the early points of that game, things
looked really good. But then you know, they held up,
like they got out to that nine point lead, and
they held it for a while, and you're looking at
it and going, Okay.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
We didn't see like Louisville.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
They got up early, and then Louisville erased that deficit
in the blank of an eye, right, But then the
problem started and Georgia started to get going a little bit,
and Cincinnati didn't have any answers, and then as you
got through the second half, it progressively got worse. That
tells me there's a confidence issue. That tells me that

(05:34):
they don't have anything that they really believe in to
stop the bleeding. You know, I think there was a
point in the second half they were down seven, they
had gotten a couple stops, and if the offense had
been functional and productive, you can get right back in
that game.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
And that's It's an okay Georgia team.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
I think they're going to be fine in the SEC,
but I don't think they're gonna be competing for an
SEC championship like that big team. You should be able
to get back in that game and at worst, you know,
battle to the end, and instead they had a couple
of possessions go the wrong way and next thing you know,
it's thirteen, then it's fifteen, then it's seventeen. And that

(06:20):
tells me, Yeah, they're searching.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
For what do we do when you know, when things.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
Stop working, how do we get out of it? How
do we get back on track? And I think we've
seen that in all these games that they've lost, or
the games that they haven't.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Played well in. They play well in fits and starts.
They'll play well for five.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
Seven minute stretches, and then there'll be a ten minute
stretch that it looked like you know, they all just
met each other in June.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
And that's not conducive to winning at a high level,
is it?

Speaker 2 (06:55):
And I get you. You turn back to Jisel and
maybe you find a spark there. You know this team
better than anyone, Chad. Is it too late for this
team to turn this season around? When you look at
I'm watching a lot of basketball Arizona BYU Houston. You
can go up and down the list teams in the

(07:15):
top ten, teams in the top twenty five, teams that
are just outside the top twenty five. You watch basketball,
You've watched this team and I know they have talented players.
Is it too late for this team to turn it around,
or do you see a path in which they could
get things turned around for this season.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
I have a hard time seeing it, if we're being honest.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
I mean, you've got six or seven teams at the
top of this league. I just don't how do they
beat Houston Arizona BYU Texas Tech. You know, you go
to Kansas, you go down the list, and I just
I look at those games and I go out of Cincinnati.

(07:58):
Win a couple to get back in this thing, They're
gonna have to get a couple of big scalps. You're
you're gonna have to have a couple. You start at
six and four, you're in a hole. You've got a
ton of grant with Yeah, a good cleansing team that's
well coached, and they're gonna make you pay for for
mistakes that you make. So yeah, like, you have to

(08:21):
beat Clemson Sunday. Don't feel great about that. Let's not talk,
Let's not look over. I was say, let's come was
leading Duke yesterday for a good portion of that game.
That's the after Christmas, the dreaded after Christmas game that

(08:42):
teams have always kind of looked flat in so yeah,
I don't. The path is, uh, the path has grown
over with thickets and thorns, and uh you better have
a real good machete to slice your way through it.
I mean, we knew the tough of the top of

(09:03):
this league was going to be tough, but did they
can they beat an improved Oklahoma State team? Uh? You
know there's a couple in that group that boy, if
you lose one or two of those games, sure, then
you're you're swimming even farther upstream. And do you feel

(09:23):
good about this team going on the road and beating
anybody at this point in time?

Speaker 3 (09:27):
So that includes.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Clemson and nine Big Twelve games. So it doesn't feel great, Tony.
And you know this is probably why Gisel James is
coming back tonight, if we're being completely honest.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Outside of that, the football squad is preparing for a
bowl game and they're doing so with a very depleted
now secondary. They don't have their cornerback coach anymore. He's gone.
Brendan soaresby ha left. How difficult is this game itself
gonna beach at against a navy the naval account me
who will not be resting players? No players are opting

(10:03):
out of the bowl game for Navy, a team that
leads the nation in rushing yards per game. How difficult
One is the opponent for the bowl game, and two
putting together the roster and preparing with players that are
opting out and leaving.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
Yeah, I mean, look, if you're in Cincinnati situation where
you got guys preparing for the draft and guys entering
the transfer portal and you're going into bowl season, the
last thing you want to see is Navy pop up
as your opponent. Yeah, they are going to be exactly
who they are that they are going to play one

(10:39):
thousand miles an hour. They are going to play a
brand of football that I mean, there's what like four
guys on this roster that didn't even really play when
Cincinnati left the American Athletic Conference.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Like, they don't know Navy and what did we.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
See If you go back to when Davy entered the
AAC early, when you're first getting a look at Navy
in the triple option, it's really difficult. I mean, they
rush for what eight thousand yards in that one game
in twenty seventeen or whatever it was, and then, as usual,

(11:16):
saw them more and more and more the team became
familiar with it, and they were able to shut them down.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
But in a one off.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
That's the danger of playing Navy is it's new. It's
something you're not used to. It's a style you're not
accustomed to, and they just are unrelenting in attacking you offensively.
Their defense is not great. But you're without Brendan Soresby.
You're probably gonna be without Tywie Walker.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
And Evin Pryor. Your line is there.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
I think you're going to have most of your wide receivers,
so there will be something. There will be something to
fall back on. But boy, you're definitely not looking at
one of the most efficient offenses in the country. And Tony,
how much did we talk about time of possession?

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Oh boy?

Speaker 3 (12:06):
This year?

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Yes? Correct?

Speaker 3 (12:08):
What fifty to ten?

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Yep?

Speaker 3 (12:11):
On January third?

Speaker 4 (12:12):
Like, what's the record for what a team has possessed
the ball?

Speaker 3 (12:20):
That part terrifies me.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
Yeah, without a doubt. And now the possessions, Chad become
even more important. And you're gonna be running possessions without
Brendan Sorosby. I know we'll talk about the Bowl game
with Samas Jones and Brady Lichtenberg. I would have to
imagine that the answer for quarterback next year is not
currently on this roster.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
I can't imagine that it is. Look, I'm sure Samas
Jones is going to have a chance to compete for
the starting job. They had a bunch of money to
pay Brendan Soresby. Do I think they're gonna go pay
a quarterback what they were willing.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
To pay Soresby?

Speaker 4 (12:58):
No, nor should you unless it's one of the you know,
absolute top guys in this class. And I don't think
that's going to happen. But you've got money to go
get a starting quarterback, you have to go do that.
You have to find a guy that you believe in
and that fits your system and that you think.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
I really think it's important in this era.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
Of college football that they do what they did with
Brendan Soarsby. You find a little bit of a younger
guy that you trust and you've watched the.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Tape and you think that you can get not just one.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
But hopefully at least two good years out of And
that's that's what they're going to be tasked with.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
How how difficult does the rebuild become? And I know
we've had this conversation three years, five wins, seven wins.
But if you look at this roster, and Keegan has
pointed this out before, this roster has NFL talent. They've
got a quarterback, they had a quarterback in Swersby who's
going to go make a lot of money elsewhere at
a high major school. Do you view this year as

(14:01):
a disappointment because on the outside, I think a lot
of people at the start of the year would say, Okay,
seven wins, I'll get on board with that. The way
in which it happened, with the talent that this roster had,
does seven now looking back on it feel a little
bit disappointing.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
It feels like a missed opportunity.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
I don't know that it's we're in this world now
where everything is like awesome or everybody has to be fired,
like there's no middle ground in sports anymore. I think
the season was okay, but I think you missed your
The window was as open as it was going to
possibly get, especially at seven to one going into November

(14:44):
and having a chance to compete all the way to
the end for a spot in the conference championship game. Yeah,
and look, Utah beat them like Utah was clearly the superior.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
Team that day.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
For sure.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
Arizona and BYU Cincinnati did not play well and were
still within one score late in the fourth quarter. Yeah,
you got the ball against Arizona down six with a
chance to win the game. You've got BYU down six.
If you get a stop, you're gonna get the ball

(15:23):
back and have a chance to win the game. And
they didn't get it done in either of those situations.
And then I think you could you could feel it, Tony.
You were there, you would know better than me. They
felt deflated against TCU because they were playing for the
conference championship the entire way, and that was possible all

(15:45):
the way through the end of.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
The BYU game. And then it looked like kind of
the wheels sell off in Fort Worres.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
But I don't think that Arizona, BYU or TCU were or.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
It didn't look like Utah, where Utah was just supremely talented.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
They were the better built, better agreed constructed, better performing
football team. You had three opportunities even just to get
that one win, to get to eight and feel like
this season was a.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Big success at seven.

Speaker 4 (16:21):
Losing your last four, now you're staring down the barrel
of Navy, or you might lose your last five again
to end the season. It's hard to say that's anything
but a disappointment.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Without a doubt, it is a tough time right now
around the University of Cincinnati again. Gisel James back Alabama
State tonight a game on Sunday. There is a lot
out there as it relates to the Cincinnati Bearcats. Chand
for those looking to to follow along with the coverage
or maybe gift that coverage to someone in their lives

(16:55):
that's a Bearcat fan. Now, what do you got going on?
A Bearcat journal?

Speaker 4 (17:00):
Obviously everything you could possibly want to know about, all
the things that you just mentioned. Uh, we've got the
podcast and video network. Keegan does a phenomenal job on
the writing side covering everything that's going on. We'll see
what happens tonight with Alabama State. You're not You're not
gonna want to miss this one, Like what does moday

(17:21):
be good?

Speaker 2 (17:21):
To be interesting? That's it.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
The night's gonna be interesting. And then guess what, ton

Speaker 3 (17:42):

Speaker 2 (17:45):

Speaker 4 (17:45):
Uh you know, I was, I was out to dinner
one time. I got the lunch one time, a couple
of weeks ago, and the two ladies sitting.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
Next to us.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
The one lady was talking about telling a long story
about her husband, and like every ever ninety seconds she will.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
Go, but it's fine. No, it's fine. I mean it's fine.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
Yeah, no, it's fine, and like it's wanted to look
over go it's not fine, lady, but trying to convince
yourself it's not fine. So my my reaction to Austin
being there tomorrow, it's fine, it's fine, fine, everything's fine,
that's fair, fair, everything's going well.

Speaker 2 (18:20):

have a BlackBerry? I did? That was the best phone
I've ever had. I absolutely I would take my BlackBerry

(19:57):
back right now if I could. I miss the BlackBerry
and the simplicity of those days. Yeah, I thought I
was so cool with that like big ass keyboard yep,
and a little on it yeah. And the little like
roller bawl thing, oh yeah, and then they came out
with a fully touch screen BlackBerry that just changed and
that was the worst phone I've ever had. Yeah, that

(20:19):
was awful. What about the Bucked Up Bowl? Uh, that
I don't think is real. That was a real one.
That was the one already played, that was played between Washington,
the LA Bucked Up Bowl. Bucked Up. There was sixty
three people there, I thinep. What about the America Online
Defiance Bowl. America Online Defiance Bowl. Yep, I'm gonna say

(20:41):
that's real. That has made up. No way that is
made up. You're kidding. Defiance like Defiance College.

Speaker 3 (20:48):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
What about the sixty eight Ventures Bowl? That's probably true.
That's a true one. Yeah, that's a true one. Sounds
like some sort of like crypto company or something. It is,
it's probably a crypto company, sixty eight Ventures.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:02):

them money? No, there's a there's an actual generator. There's
a there's an online generator.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
Um.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
Some of these are so stupid. Exxon Mobile Focus Bowl,
Focus Bowl Focus that's not real. It's not real.

Speaker 3 (21:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
I was gonna say the companies are real, but the
bulls are not. The Salute to Veterans Bowl, that's probably
a real bowl. That is a real one.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Where's that one being played at? The Salute to It's
December seventeenth. I know that that's tonight. Oh that is tonight. Yeah,
today is December of the seventeenth.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (22:14):

in the Military Bowl. Oh I thought you that My
brother played in the Military Bowl. Okay, did he win?
They won? They beat Temple, all right, they did beat

(22:35):
Temple in Devon. Yes, yeah, so shout out to Devon, like,
who's the best athlete out of all you guys, because
in my family, you played. Obviously, Devon played at a
much bigger institutions. Doug played and your dad? Yeah was,

(22:55):
If I'm not mistaken a linebacker. Who's the best athlete
out of the four of you?

Speaker 4 (23:01):
Me?

Speaker 2 (23:02):
No, and I think all other three would say that.
I don't know if I think they would say that
as well?

Speaker 4 (23:07):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (23:07):
I think how tall is Devin compared to you? Probably
in shorter okay, but he's got you in strength by
a mile. Yeah, now I would say that. They They
would also openly tell you that they worked harder than
I did.

Speaker 4 (23:21):
I was.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
I think I was more naturally gifted as an athlete?

Speaker 3 (23:25):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (23:25):
What could have been? What could have been? For sure?
But yeah, I would say it's me and then two A,
two B two C. I'll put them all on that
second level. I got one for you. Okay. The SRS
Distribution Las Vegas Bowl, that's got to be true. That
is real. That's got to be a bowl that's Nebraska
against Utah. Okay, the final game for old Kyle Whittingham

(23:48):

uhrustin Will Holiday Bowl? Holiday Bowls real? That's real? What
about the Emerson Electric Company Pine out Apple Bowl? Is
not real? The Pineapple BWL? What about the Go Daddy
Happy Bowl? Is go Daddy still a thing? I'm asking you?

(24:09):
Is it a bowl? Is Danica Patrick still around? Is
it a bowl? No, it's not a bowl. I remember
when GoDaddy dot Com was like a thing? What what
even was that? You remember? Seeing Danica Patrick was like,
I think it was like an opportunity if you wanted
to make your own website. Okay, I think GoDaddy dot
Com And yeah there's still websites. Gateway Computer's happy bowl

(24:30):
that I would believe is real. Not real? Okay, Activision
Blizzard responsibility bowl responsibility. I'll tell you what. Activision and
Blizzard have a responsibility to fix call of duty because
they've screwed it up over the last couple of years.
Activision and Blizzard. But that's not a real bowl. It's

(24:50):
not a real bowl. What about the Cricket Celebration Bowl. No,
I'm starting to that's real, Yes, celebration Cricket Celebration Bowl.
I was starting to get like I thought I was
starting to catch on, like those at a random word
followed by a random company. Nope, So shout out to
a bration bowl is real? Shut out to Generation Land
dot Com saying hell, yeah, I don't know anything about

(25:14):
these Bowl Games. Oh, of course you've got the uh
the Snoop Dog Bowl, of course at Miami of Ohio
Snoop Do doubleg. That's right. Thrifty Car Rental Bowl. No,
that's real. Really, I should know that I rented a
car from thrifty once and it was a miserable experience.
Uh really, yep? What bowl are they? What bowl they have?

(25:37):
Where's that at? Is that somewhere in Atlanta? I literally
just closed out the page. Come on, sorry, Xbox Bowl.
PlayStation doesn't have a bowl, but Xbox does. I don't
think PlayStation has one anymore, but they did they used to. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (25:51):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
San Diego is apparently where the Thrifty Car Rental Holiday.
But of course the Bush's Boca Raton Bowl. You could
get there for free if you're one of the first
two thousand to show up with the cann of beans.
Do you like baked beans?

Speaker 3 (26:03):
Nope?

Speaker 2 (26:04):
Do you like black beans? Nope? You like pento beans nope?
Do you like any bean?

Speaker 3 (26:07):
No?

Speaker 2 (26:10):
What about Scooter's Coffee Frisco Ball? Yes? I think that's real.
Game above Sports Bowl? Yes, that's real. Nice the game above?

Speaker 3 (26:18):
Yeap?

Speaker 2 (26:19):
What about the Wassabi Bowl? Is that still around. It
is it is? What was it was? What was that
company that used to make like a type of vitamin water?
Was that like it was like wasabi water or something?
Do you remember that? We're going back thirty the way
back machine. What about the j Lab Birmingham Ball. Yeah,
that's true, that's true. All right, let's take a break.

(26:40):
I started to catch you on there. Yeah, you got
me at the end. You got me Tony the Tiger Bowl. Yes,
that's real, I saw that. Dang. Take a break. We
got your phone calls next before we get to any beans.
ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station. Welcome back sincey three

(27:07):
to sixty thanks to our friends at Penn Station. Thank
you for listening on ESPN fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station.
We got a few minutes here before we get Mowagger
in the room to take a couple of your phone calls.

Speaker 4 (27:19):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Do we want to go to Montgomery or Fort Thomas
for Brian Austin, whatever, whichever one you'd like. All right,
let's start in Montgomery. Brian, what's up? Hey, I'm going
How are you?

Speaker 6 (27:32):
Thanks for choosing the great city of Montgomery.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Yes, yes, I was calling.

Speaker 6 (27:38):
Uh, you know the last three games of the Bengals. Obviously,
draft position worries me. The thing that worries me the
most is like last year where they used the last
few games against bad quarterbacks as an excuse as to
why Gino Stonus, that's a great safety and gonna improve
he improved so much and this and that, And I
feel like they're going to probably use that same sentiment

(27:59):
with some of their players. I would particularly like linebacker, corners, safety,
Like the safeties are still there obviously with they needed
they needed to overhaul both safeties, both linebackers.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
Uh. Defensive ay actually looks a.

Speaker 6 (28:15):
Little better now that Miles Murphy is playing a little
bit better. But I'm really scared about these last couple
of games they're gonna use. I mean, they're playing against
what quint viewers Jacobe brist.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
And uh and uh Dower Sanders.

Speaker 6 (28:33):
Yeah, so I'm hoping both in the day can make
them look good. Uh they have career games because uh,
they we really needed overhaul and they I feel like
they use that as an excuse as to why they
didn't make many changes except for a coordinator and just
said that we need knew a new coordinator that obviously
look at the Colts, to look at the Bengals and

(28:53):
look how that turned out. So sure, the players on
the field are what it was what And unfortunately they
lack a lot of talent on defense. Uh even though
that they just drafted two young linebackers and a bad
linebacker Jeb. Yeah, so hopefully they can get better evaluation too.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
So for sure, Brian, thank you man. Yes, sir, I
think that's the big thing. You You can't allow the
last three weeks to change what the majority of the
season's been. And I think we got caught up in
a little bit of that last year with the way
they ended the stretch. And again you are, it's Quen
you weres, it's Jacoby Brissett and at Shador Sanders. That
cannot change how bad this season has been. Brian and

(29:34):
Ford Thomas. What's up?

Speaker 7 (29:36):
Oh hey guys, how you guys going good?

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Good good?

Speaker 7 (29:41):
I was calling about that lovely press conference. I fashed
my book and I turned that on as just a
just a breath of fresh air. I mean we hit
on all six draft picks.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Yeah, I was, I was. I was confused by that comment.

Speaker 7 (29:56):
Yeah, the one I hasn't been active and he is active,
he's he's lost and the other guys that's been the
worst defense, the bangles of a head and how many years.
I mean, they were horrendous most of the year, and
it was largely part of that draft. I just come on, Zach,
like you hit it all and you're happy of the
process when you haven't been selecting good players and come on,

(30:18):
kidnap breaks act.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
This is a joke.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Yeah, I just I don't think that that went over
all that well. I'm completely in agreement, Brian, thank you
for your phone call as well. Yeah, Austin when he
said that, I I kind of was taken back a
little bit. I don't think all six picks have been hit.
And Ben Baby kind of followed up with you know,
do you use this time to get younger plays? He said,
we've played all six guys. Yeah, well there's more to
it than that. Okay, just because you played, Okay, one

(30:44):
more here and then we'll get a b. We'll get
to moagor in just a moment.

Speaker 8 (30:47):
What's up, Paul, Hey, I got a little kidbit for
you about Brady Lichtenberg. His grandfather was actually the coach
at Ohio University.

Speaker 3 (30:58):
A lot of people did know this.

Speaker 8 (31:00):
His son, Tom Junior, which was top Tom Senior was
the head coach at Ohio University. Tom Junior actually went
by the name of Bubba Lichtenburg. He was actually a
quarterback in Athens High School and he was like the
talk of the town before Joe Burrow. I actually play
against him in high school and he did something, well,

(31:21):
it was a scrimmage, but he did something that I
still can't I still have never seen anyone do it.
I was I was a defensive end and I was
I got off the end and I'm chasing him. He's
a right headed quarterback, so I'm chasing into his left
I'm thinking he's either running out of bound or bounds
or I'm gonna plow him. The guy switches the ball
and throws a twenty five yard completed.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Pass with his left head.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
That's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
Seen that ever in my life.

Speaker 8 (31:47):
Now, whatever happened to Bubba? That is so funny is
I found out? When I saw that name on the
UC's roster, I was like, there's no way that can't
be his kids, and that his kid.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (32:01):
Hey, Then one more little tick that I am actually
friends with Keegan Nicholson's brother.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
And I ex figured this, that's my favorite show.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
Corbin is his name.

Speaker 8 (32:11):
He was actually an electrician, uh At, a Predise electrician.

Speaker 3 (32:15):
That I worked with. And I figured this.

Speaker 8 (32:18):
Out because I kept saying his name called Keegan Nickoson.

Speaker 7 (32:21):
I was like, why is that name?

Speaker 2 (32:23):
And I was like thirty two.

Speaker 8 (32:24):
Way, So I actually asked Corbin. I was like, hey, man,
I sitting my message on Facebook saying hey, is your
brother Keegan?

Speaker 3 (32:32):
He goes, how do you know my brother? Hey?

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Here's m right here?

Speaker 3 (32:35):
You kidding me? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (32:36):
So yeah, awesome, I said, because I hear him on
fifty thirty.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
So thanks, Paul, I appreciate you man, Thank you. All Right,
we got to get a break. Uh Mulager standing by
to join us for a quick hits next the ESPN
fifteen thirty Cincinnati Sports Station from the Any Weather Heating
and dare tam Star weathers Center. Here's your forecast this
report sponsor by Loas.

Speaker 9 (32:56):
We continue to melt more snow away, and we're feeling
a lot better. Highs near forty eight this afternoon with
some good sunshine. We keep it dry overnight, dropping to
thirty eight for your Thursday morning. And while we can't
let a couple spotty showers to start the day. Rain
is much more likely Thursday afternoon into the evening, maybe
even a few rumbles of thunder. It'll also be windy
with a high year fifty three. That's the forecast. I'm

(33:19):
nine first warning met rebly just Mark Stitz.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
Stay home and stay big online.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
Now it's time for quick hits on Tony Pikes since
three sixty.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
Yes it is. It's time for quick hits. I was
looking for really one final time for Mo and I
this week. You keep on fighting till the there it
is we the Chappians ship happens.

Speaker 10 (33:50):
No time for the.

Speaker 5 (33:52):
Span or the ball on anybody else, because weea beyond wow.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
Of of the NBA Cup, of the NBA Cup. How
are you doing? Wonderful NBA Cup last night? It also
James returns today. Life is good.

Speaker 10 (34:13):
Zach Taylor, Zach Taylor making the show easy for me
to do. Life is good, you know, amid this period
of darkness in Cincinnati sports, here you have this beacon
of hope coming from Las Vegas, the New York Knicks
winning the NBA Cup Championship, avenging their finals loss to
the San Antonio Spurs. From twenty seven years ago or
twenty six, twenty six years ago, almost twenty seven years ago.

(34:36):
Winning last night and not hanging a banner, because hang
them all at the same time next fall.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
That's the thing for me. Not hanging the banner, that
tells me that they are bigger goals ahead of this team.
We'll enjoy this one, yeah, but we're not. We're not
gonna sit back and celebrate this and we're not hanging
n banners. We're not hanging NBA Cup banners. It's championship
or bust for this knicksticks.

Speaker 10 (34:58):
It's like when we we got out our Halloween decorations,
I also pulled out the Christmas decorations, right, I'm not
gonna kind of did both at the same time.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Right, talk at the Halloween stuff.

Speaker 10 (35:08):
I know, why why go out of my way to
put up the Halloween stuff if I'm just gonna have
to go back and put up the Christmas stuff.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
So I sort of put them both up together.

Speaker 10 (35:16):
Same principal applies for the NBA Cup banner and possibly
an NBA Championship banner.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
The NBA Cup and the title in the same year
never determines what banners go up, because I know that
you know, Billy Joel has a banner, Harry Styles has
a banner. If you go to.

Speaker 10 (35:33):
Heritage Bank Center, they have a banner for fans for
the Cyclones.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Yea, that is pretty funny fans. I think Pete Rose
has his number reaching he does, he does, he does
often drop one time. We just wanted to hat.

Speaker 10 (35:49):
So yes, NBA Cup Champions, congratulations, thanks so much.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
What else you got coming up today?

Speaker 10 (35:54):
Things are not going well for the Bengals right now,
right would you agree? Why did Zach Taylor make them worse?
Like to me today, your job is to ensure that
we're not making it worse, and Zach Taylor just made
it worse.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
Yep, Like they can't do the easy stuff. They can't.

Speaker 10 (36:13):
Just hey, look, I'm signed for two more years. Don't
really want to talk about it. I hope I'm here
for the rest of my career. Like why now this
The problem is Zach Taylor is the spokesperson for this franchise.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
Mike Petralia pointed out many times today.

Speaker 10 (36:27):
I'm surprised Zach wasn't forced to answer questions about the
snow not being blown off the seats. But there's what
I want to get to today, Why why make things worse?

Speaker 3 (36:35):
Why?

Speaker 10 (36:36):
Zach had to know those questions were coming, He had
to have why make things worse by being a jerk?
And by the way, just so, and I'll talk about
this today as well, so I'm not accused of just,
you know, taking random shots at Zach Taylor. His question
about the twenty nineteen Dolphins game awesome. I do not
expect a head coach to talk about the bright side

(36:57):
of losing. I thought those were great answers talking about
that game in Miami, which did change the trajectory the
franchise because fortunately they lost. But like when it comes
to your contract, what is the harmon going? Look, I
want the focus to be on this team in this game.
But yeah, I got two more years. I hope I'm
here for another twelve. Grateful to be here.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
We didn't announce it.

Speaker 10 (37:16):
I had my reasons, the organization had its reasons, But yeah,
I'm here for two years.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
Can we talk about something else?

Speaker 10 (37:21):
And I think most there would have been like, okay, cool,
let's talk about Quinn yours or Shamar Stewart or will
come up with something interesting about this game?

Speaker 2 (37:30):
On Some had to fact check, though there was a
point where one of his quotes was that they hit
on all six picks this year. Are we confident in
calling all six picks hits for this team? Shamar Stewart
not sure. Barrett Carter, No, if that's a hit, played
a good game on had a good game. But I'm

(37:50):
not sure anything about TODs Brooks because now some a
JP Ryan's getting the most carries. Yeah, Dylan farridshot Eth
thinks pretty good, all six picks hits. No, happy with
the development, happy with the scouting department, complete alignment, loves
working side by side with Duke Tobin. I don't believe
this complete alignment. I don't either, man, And you know,

(38:11):
I said Austin said, it might be my favorite Zach
press conference. There's so much there.

Speaker 10 (38:15):
The best part was like the little smirk when it
was brought up to him, like, well, we're not allowed
to talk to ownership, and I just had this look
on his face like I don't know if I admire that, yeah,
but I don't know if I despise it. It's a lot,
like a lot, you know, I can't really do this
justice on radio, but he sort of had that smirk
on his face.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
How important is it not to allow whatever happens in
the next three flood what has happened throughout the first fourteen.

Speaker 10 (38:40):
It's important because there is a track record. Go back
to the Andy Dalton game where he eliminated their Ravens
from the postseason on the fourth down toss to Tyler Boyd,
where the Bills fans, you know, gave a bunch of
money to Andy Dalton's foundation, and Mike Brown sat on
the bus and was like, you know, yeah, don't think
where that far away last year and Marvin Lewis, who

(39:02):
was gone, was suddenly not gone.

Speaker 2 (39:04):
So yeah, I last year we did the same thing.
We talked about how important it was to win down
the stretch and how that would carry over, and it
didn't carry over.

Speaker 3 (39:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (39:13):
Look, I think these games are important. Shamar Stewart's gonna play, dude,
show me something. I think these games are important for
certain players and you can learn a little bit more
about them. But if they win these three games and
your takeaway is.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
Here, we go, We're good. We don't need to mess
with Just take the off season off kind of like
you did last year.

Speaker 10 (39:30):
Whatever Airbnb you rented last offseason again, read it again,
and take the coaching staff with you. No, I think
number one, I want Dj Turner to solidify the season
that he has had. I want to see more from
Miles Murphy because the recent glimpses have been very encouraged.

Speaker 2 (39:45):
Make a decision on Joseph very encouraging.

Speaker 10 (39:47):
And make a decision on Joseph Osai, keep Joe Burrow healthy.
There are play the younger safeties and see if you
have something there. These games aren't meaningless in that regard,
but I I Am not going to allow any amount
of success they have over these last three games. And
by the way, my guess is they win all three.
They should are going up against quinn Ewers and the

(40:08):
Cardinals and the Browns, they should win all three of
these games. I cannot imagine any sane person would walk
away from three victories and go, you know, yeah, what
if only the season were twenty games, this would be
a playoff team, And then you wouldn't want to play them,
would you.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
No, nobody wants to play that. Nobody is going to
play them because they're not good enough. When the committee
sits down on Sunday, March fifteenth, yeah, and they are weighing,
you see, and what seed to give them in the
NCAA tournament. Do you have to start with the team
they were before Gizsel James and the team they will
be now going forward from tonight.

Speaker 10 (40:40):
I don't know that they'll say, well, you know what,
let's wipe away that loss to Eastern Michigan. I'm glad
Gisel is back. If I would have said to you yesterday,
you see, he can get a player tomorrow who, over
his last thirteen games playing on the Big twelve, average
sixteen and a half points a game. What did you say,
I'm in. That's what just James did deal. I've seen

(41:02):
people suggest he could disrupt the chemistry. What chemistry? What
Kirk was just a minus thirty plus minus. These these
guys look like a whole bunch of dudes who just
met each other. Like's gonna disrupt the Cat Welcome back.
There's a long list of former Bearcats and players from
other programs who were told to leave or left on

(41:23):
their own, and then we're eventually welcome back.

Speaker 2 (41:26):
So welcome back Jizsel. I hope he adds something.

Speaker 10 (41:28):
I don't know that it's going to be enough for
me to think that they can beat Arizona Houston, Texas,
that guy with State, et cetera.

Speaker 2 (41:34):
But it starts tonight. Can't get any worse beat Alabama
State can't get any worse. And then what's Alabama State's mascot? Cyclones?
But I don't know? Tigers, Jack, Wildcats, it's a hornet,
It's a hornet, Hornets, the Hornets, Hornet.

Speaker 10 (41:55):
Cats, the Hornets. Tonight with Gisel James's.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
Next at fifteen thirty, Cincinnati sports station Austin's Got three
sixty tomorrow played in the NFL. Yeah I heard that.
Will he be there tonight? Have a great rest of
your Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (42:29):
Until u c k Y Cincinnati, make us the number
one pre set on your car radio and on the free,
new and improved iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (42:36):
