Crazy First Date: "White Roses Means Death!"

Amy called in with her "Crazy First Date" story and how her long-distance date sent her the wrong colored roses.

It's Covey and Cristine Crazy first date.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
We're talking with Amy. Good morning, Amy, Good morning. Okay,
we want to hear about your crazy first date. How
did you guys meet? When did it happen?

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Well, we met a long time ago in ninth grade,
but we were connected in college and our first date
was over telnet via computer typing.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Do you know I kind of remember that? Was it
like a green screen like tell net?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yes? Basically what happened was, since we were doing long distance,
he was trying to be nice and showing his interests
by sending me flowers all the way from Syracuse, and
he somehow found a vocal flora and he was like, oh,
expect something. I got you something. I said, great, So

(00:53):
I showed up at the student union for a dozen
white roses with some chocolate, and I'm thinking to myself,
oh gosh, because I told him, did you know white
is death in Asian culture?

Speaker 3 (01:08):
But you're alive and.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Well you had to break it to him right that
you appreciated the gesture, but it didn't quite work.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yes, I had to tell him on tel met. He's like, oh, no,
I meant to spend you a half a dozen red roses.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
So what happened? Did you end up talking with him
again or did you kind of just let the relationship go? No?

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Actually he's my husband. We have two kids together.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Oh, clearly it worked it out.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Yes, after we realized we have to talk about our
cultural differences because he's obviously not Asian.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
That well, we have a dozen white roses for you. No,
we have something even better, Amy, for sharing your story, Christine,
what are we gonna give her?

Speaker 1 (01:51):
