Speaker 1 (00:00):
Christina Barry a thousand years how this week is felt?
One of six twenty seven light fat I'm kidding, gotta
be Christine, producer Kristin. It's been a pretty good week.
It's it's been a fast week for me. How about you, Christine,
Although you photo it's Thursday, so I felt.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
It was Thursday. So yeah, that means wed I'm a
little behind.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Did you feel I know we have a small sample
size at four thirty or five in the morning, but
do you feel traffic was kind of lighter than usual?
I feel like there's a like a last Hurrah going
on where people are not here, they're out of town,
they're getting in that last you know, vacation before school starts.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Just in general, I feel in the area I live
in anyway, North Jersey, a little less traffic, a little
less crowded in the stores. Yeah, joining it while I
have it.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
That's what I'm talking about. It's not a big like
you can't I don't know. It's not a it's somewhat noticeable.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
It's the complete opposite for me. For you, Yeah, well,
I think it's because I live closer to the shore. Well,
I'm only about twenty minutes away from you know, Jenkinson's
in Point Pleasant and all that. So it's very congested
where I am. And even this morning I take Root nine.
There were so many cars this morning. I don't know why, but.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Okay, all this week on the Ternpike northbound from East
Brunswick to Hear, I've seems like it's light to me.
Mm hmm light FM. So know, it seems very like
you know, you know, you know how I judge it
by how many cars may come up behind me and
flash their lights, you know, because I go I go
like seventy five, which is above the speed limit, but
I still get those people that flash you like you're
going too slow. I hate that doesn't happen often, but
(01:25):
it might happen once a morning, but.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Especially in the morning, it's like there's nobody else out here,
just go around me. Yeah, and were you tailgating me?
This morning?
Speaker 1 (01:34):
I was tailgating Christine entering the Lincoln Tunnel. I'm like,
that's your car. I know your car, and I almost
blinked my lights to get your attention, but I'm like, no,
you know you're in a zone. I don't want to
bother you. I'll see you in five minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
But he always says he doesn't even try and get
my attention because I'm.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
She's very focused.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Oh, she's like ten and two on the steering wheel.
Christine is looking straight ahead. You can else she's listening
to something very compelling.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Right, yeah, I get here every day.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Well, you're not only focused driving, but you're also focused walking.
Because yesterday we were walking to the garage to get
our cars and Christine got checked out. This guy looked
her up and down and smiled, and she's like, Landy, doddy,
DADDI da. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Wait, we all walked out together. I don't remember that.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Then it was two days ago. Walk together, okay, okay.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
And it wasn't you. We were walking together, Christy, we were.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
I know, no, no, no, he was really looking at you, Christine. Yeah, Christine,
we're carrying a conversation.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
But she was laser focused on that conversation and she
completely missed it.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
But you saw it all happening.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
I watched the whole thing.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Man, you are taken, Christine. Although Eric is camping and
he is away right now, he don't.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Know under the stars, I'm trying to send him text
messages and thank you Kristin. I'm trying to send him
text messages about the perceeded, oh, the media showers and
how he can see, like there's certain planets you can
see right now, and all these beautiful messages and he's
sending back like hello, like he's not getting any of them.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Oh okay.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
I think he's holding up his phone and he can
get like one out like I love you, I miss you,
and that's it. He's not getting my response.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
He's in the middle of nowhere, right upstate New York state. Okay, yeah,
all right, well listen coming up by the way, shout
out to international left Hander's day. Any left handers in
your life, today's your day. We're all righty in this
room or.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
No, not me.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Oh, Kristen's a lefty.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Kristen's lefty, Eric, Eric is a lefty.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Your man Eric is lefty, And yeah, I'm a righty. Coco,
my wife is alrighty. And we can't tell if our
son Miles is right or left because he uses both.
I don't think he's in it. What's the word A dexterous? Yeah, yeah,
I can't say it. I don't think he's that. You
never know, but he he'll eat with his right hand,
and then he'll play outside in the sand with his
left hand. I can't. I don't know what's going on there.
(03:54):
And nail Me is right handed. If you're a left hander,
today's your day. We're coming right back with ree pretty
cool things.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Kabby and Christine back in a moment on one oh
six point seven. Light at them.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
It's three pretty cool things you need to know.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Oh, here's a fun fact about Oreos and Christine, you
actually gave me this information. This is fascinating. So it
was this week in nineteen twelve the Oreo trademark was
registered and since then, Oreo has become the best selling
cookie in the world. And did you know Oreo has
a bunker located near the famous Global Seed Vault. This
vault is more than just a marketing stunt. It's real
(04:32):
physical structure that safeguards Oreos from a potential global disaster.
And my wife and I, before we had kids, we
went to Falbarred, Norway, huh, which is the Arctic Circle.
It's technically the North Pole. You know air quotes North.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Pole where Santa lifts.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Yes, And we had a chance to go visit, but
we didn't get the time to do it. But the
Global Seed Vault is a thing where all the seeds
from every tree in the world are there. They're frozen,
God forbid, the world comes to an end and we
have to rebuild or something. All those seeds are there.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
So we'll have trees and we'll have oreos. We have
to start over again.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Pretty cool, right, yeah, all right, what do you have Christine?
Speaker 2 (05:12):
I think this is pretty awesome. Purple Rain is coming.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
To Broadway like Prince Purple Rain.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yes, like Prince Purple Rain, the original script. It's based
on the script, and of course Prince's music. There's going
to be some original music. But we don't know a
lot about it. We do know that it's opening in
Minneapolis and it's opening this fall, so we could guess
it'll come to Broadway maybe by the spring. I'm waiting
for details, but we have found out that they have
(05:40):
cast Chris Collins as the kid that's their Prince. He's
a singer songwriter that the producers discovered on social media.
And Rachel Webb, who's starred in a Juliette on Broadway,
she's going to be the co star.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
I mean, you have to think this is going to work, right.
I mean if MJ. The musical is as big as
it is, right, and you think a lot of times
you put MJ and Prints in that same kind of conversation.
Eighties pop star, Huge Gone too Soon?
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Yes, absolutely, I think we'll plan on going now.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Oh absolutely, Yeah, all right, Kristin, you're up.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
So this Friday, August fifteenth, it's Beatles Night at City Field.
The Mets are honoring the sixtieth anniversary of the Beatles
performance at Shaye Stadium. Very Cool, so wild. So in
nineteen sixty five, the Beatles became the first rock band
to perform a major stadium concert. There's a documentary that
you can watch. It's called The Beatles at Shay Stadium.
So this Friday, the celebration is going to begin with
(06:35):
a performance by a tribute band. They're called nineteen sixty
four the Tribute. They're going to play in front of
the Shay Bridge at six fifteen, so right before the game,
and the first pitch is going to be thrown out
by members of the game day staff that worked the
Beatles concert.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
WHOA, how cool isn't that cool? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (06:53):
A lot of twist and two yeah story and then
after all that if you're interested in the Mets game,
they'll play the Mariners.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
But after all that, you're like, whoa smoke a cigarette?
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Right? Right?
Speaker 4 (07:02):
More Cubby and Christine and the great music variety you
expect next on light at Them one of.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Six point seven light FM. Thank you for having us on.
You have options, you picked Cubby and Christine and Kristin
and for that, we love you. Thank you, and a
shout out to all the lovely tri state area like Connecticut,
New Jersey, New York, because apparently we're at a good
spot to live.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
We are, We know that, we know that. But now
now we have like an official study that's been done
by wallet hub of the best states to live in
in twenty twenty five. All right, and Cubby, A lot
of this is based on liveability, housing costs, income growth,
education rate, quality of hospitals. Okay, so we are not
(07:45):
number one. Massachusetts is number one, close followed by Idaho.
But look who comes in third, New Jersey.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Look at that.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
We're all Jersey folks in the room.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
So yeah, yeah, I mean, look, New Jersey has a
lot of great things. Taxes are a little high, but
I don't want to get political. Other than that. It's
pretty good.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
I don't even think that's political. They're just high, right, fact, right,
insurance rates are high. But Kristin, you pointed out that
our educational system is something like to really be proud of.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
It is, Yes, it is, And that's one of the
top things you said, right that. I mean, they clearly
didn't include affordability and all of that in this study,
which is totally fine because I mean, yeah, healthcare system too.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
That's why we have rightly, yeah, because we're paying so
much in tax dollars.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
That's a very good point.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
That would be a good investment, right that, And our
healthcare system is great. So it's Massachusetts, Idaho, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Florida,
New Hampshire, Utah, number nine, New York.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
All right, when in the top ten, New Jersey and.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
New York you made it in the top ten and
number ten is Pennsylvania.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
But no Connecticut.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
I don't see Connecticut, oh man.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
Yeah, right, Well, you.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Know, and I think they should have considered pizza when
they were making up this list, because that would have
that would have bumped us all up a little.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Bit, right right, right, We're in a good spot, though
everybody We're very lucky to be here. One to six
pointy seven light FM. Coming up, we are going to
talk about something I don't know. Christine teased me about it,
something about there's actually a fall trend. When it comes
to taste. Of course, when I think fall trends, I
think fashion. But YouTubers, yeah, okay, are going to be wearing.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
He's such a fashion fashion actually we know this, but
no flavors.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
But there's a there's a flavor.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Is it the pumpkin spice latte? Or has it seen
its day?
Speaker 1 (09:35):
All right, we'll talk about that coming in next.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
More Covey and Christine and the great music variety you
expect next on light at them.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
You know, in three months, I'm sure I'll be complaining
about the cold. I'm sure I'll be just blah blah
blahns Nos, No, where's summer? Yeah right now? Yes, I
want some fall their We do want to sixty seven
Light FM. Covey, Christine, Kristen. Are we ready for it?
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Yes, we're ready for it.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
Sonny today high ninety by the way.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Kristen, next week you said it looks like what was
it seventies something?
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Yeah, like high seventies.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
A little hint to fall. Oh yeah, and what is
the fall trend when it comes to taste, Well, you
have to.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Ask door Dash. I love this. Door Dash did a
little study with their fall flavor trends because they see
what we're ordering and what we're into. And they said
that last year, demand for the Pumpkin spice latte already
spiked by August nineteenth. So we're basically there and you know,
important stats about the beautiful PSL. It first came out
(10:39):
at nine to forty five am on August ninth in
twenty twenty four, and people were drinking it like immediately
in late August. We order fifty nine thousand Pumpkin spice
lattes from door Dash alone between August and October.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Why don't they just do it all year long?
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Because then it wouldn't be special.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Yeah, it's not fun have to.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Get it every day. Just get it when you want to.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Know there's something special about it could be. Just stay
with us.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
You like the unveiling every year.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Yeah, there's the build up, there's a anticipation. Yeah, exactly.
So orders they said are what they're starting to see
trending this year. Pea can can Yeah, that that's going
to be a very big flavor for fall. Each state,
they said, kind of has its number one. But here
in New York it looks like we still are about
(11:30):
the pumpkin spice latte. We are all about that, but
cinnamon is going to be really popular and also apple flavored.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Well, somebody has to order something right now. Now. I
want some of this stuff.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
When does pumpkin spice it's out right, No, it's not out. No, No,
I think it depends on what you're looking for. So
like we buy at home, we have the Trabanie creamer,
like a half and half if you will, And the
pumpkin spice is already out. I already bought it. But
if you were to order from Starbucks, I don't think
that's out yet.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
No, it's not out. Yeah, I'm trying to google quickly.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Give us a text at four four three six three.
If you know a coffee location, like a chain basically
that already has their pumpkin flavor, like a Duncan or
a Starbucks, maybe a Paris Buguette.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
I don't know how Paris baghett I love that place.
I do to August twenty sixth a Starbucks. You found
it too Starbucks. Yes, I mean, I know we made
that announcement here as soon as we had it, it
just wasn't in the memory banks. But August twenty six.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
All right, that'll be the day that you'll just be
so happy.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
And we're going to order on that day. Yeah, they
should do like a special promotion around it, like a
cute Starbucks cup or something.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
You need to you so need to work for Starbucks.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
I know there's a couple of places.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
You would be great in their marketing to be obsessed.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
With more Cubby and Christine and a great music variety
you expect next on Light at them.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Do you really think we should do this topic because
it's going to make people feel older?
Speaker 2 (12:53):
But oh it's not gonna no, no, no.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
It's interesting though. It's one of six point seven Light
of FM Covey Christine Kristen. We found this list here.
Seven sounds people born after the year two thousand wouldn't recognize.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
You know, I feel bad for them. They don't know
these sounds. Yeah, we wore them a nostalgic.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
We live these sounds, Yes, we lived them. Seven sounds
people born after two thousand might not recognize and producer
Kristen loaded the sounds and in the computer, and Christine
give me the seven sounds. That people after born in
two thousand won't know it well, like your kids, right,
they exactly.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
They will not recognize the sound of a floppy disk.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Drive which sounds like this, remember.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Like loading it in a little weir in the buzz
and then it pumps out of pushing that button.
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Yes, right, it felt good, right.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
It just right? How about a cassette tape and you
had to rewind it?
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Yeah, this is the audio of a rewounding or rewinding cassette.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
I don't miss that one. No one that that I
miss again just for nostalgia, because it feels so old school.
Is phone operatorswide for one one?
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Yeah, you can call four one still, can't you?
Speaker 2 (14:16):
I don't know with four one one for information?
Speaker 1 (14:20):
That's a great question. Can you call for one one?
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Let me try it?
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Yeah? Would it work like you do? Give the dollar
like out of a company line like cell phone?
Speaker 3 (14:31):
My cell phone?
Speaker 2 (14:31):
Yeah all right? How about if you were really upset
with somebody slamming a landline phone.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
It felt so good?
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Can you imagine slamming your cell phone? Now you're mad?
Like precious That's what I'm saying. You would literally break it.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
That only happens like in the movies and TV shows.
They're like so angry and they take their phone.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
I used to call Christine all the time when I
first met her, like in ninety six, and then she'd
be like, cubby, cubby, please, do you know, by the way,
you know how to end a phone call on a
cell phone if you want someone to think that the
call failed. Yeah, you know this, right, Kristen. You put
an airplane mode. Oh, if you're on a call and
you don't want them to know like you hung up,
(15:17):
you hit airplane mode, and then it will go call
failed on their own and they'll think that you hit
a bad signal or something. And then you know, call
them back for five more hours or something. Yeah, and
you say, was in a bad spot.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
For five hours or five hours spot.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
Another sound that people born after two thousand might not know.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
I can remember people falling asleep to this cubby static
on the.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
TV in the national anthem.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Oh when it's really over, Yeah, we would call it snow,
right snow. Snow would come up on the TV.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Kristin looked at me weird when I mentioned the national anthem.
Do you know what I'm talking about?
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Programming was done for the day, and like.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
One or two in the morning, TV would go off
the air. You would hear a static and then the
national anthem or no, and then your status and then static.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Until you got cartoons in the morning or so right exactly, Okay,
I miss some typewriter keys.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Somebody born after two thousand would not know what that is.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
No, that sound, but maybe Taylor Swift is bringing it
back a little bit. And finally, oh love these old
cash register sounds.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
Yeah, you know you're in a classic store if you
hear that.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
That looks so fun to hit those little buttons, door
opens instead of boop the scansund Yeah, that's the scan.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
Hit us up on text at four four, three six three.
I'm sure there are other sounds that people born after
two thousand wouldn't recognize, And if you think you have one,
let us know about it.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
Starting at eight, twenty three hours of commercial, free NonStop music.
Light at Them is New York's most music more variety stations.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Well, if you're listening to us on the iHeartRadio app
maybe in Florida or Georgia. South Carolina School has already
started for you. Yes, not here in the Northeast quite yet,
one or six point seven Light of FM Cubby Christine
producer Kristen. But now's the time if your school begins,
maybe after Labor Day, like nail Me goes to kindergarten
my daughter September third. Yeah, I mean you got to
(17:13):
start getting the rhythm down now, yes, like get the
routine down, change things now.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Yeah, I mean you guys tell me because you're living it.
So we're we're closing in. So the experts have some
tips for parents who want to help their kids gradually
get ready for the back to school transition.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
All back to school, back to It's cool oudam Sandler,
cool tool dad that I'm not a fool, all right, Yeah,
what kind of things do we need to do? Well? Actually,
this is the first time I'm paying attention to this list.
I think it comes out every year, and uh, I don't.
I'm like, I don't have kids. I don't have to
worry about this yet. But kristin here we are. We're
(17:54):
both at the kindergarten stage with our kids. Well almost
for you me this year.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Yeah, well it's the gradual us. So their sleep schedules
and their routines. A few weeks before school starts. They
say to gradually shift bedtime and wake up times to
align with the school schedule.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
All right, my wife and I are already trying to
do this slowly. We're really nervous about Naomi because she's
a sleeper. I mean she can sleep, man.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Yeah, she doesn't like to get up in the morning.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
I'm with her, and she's gonna have to be at school.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
I think like eightish, Yeah, that sounds right.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
She goes to daycare if she gets there at nine. Oh,
we're a little nervous about that. We're gonna have to
wake up. We have to teach her an alarm clock
pretty much, you we wake her up or she has
no idea about an alarm clock. So I'm thinking we
have to show her what an alarm clock does.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
That you actually have to get out of bed when
it goes off.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Yep, yep, yep.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
And Cubby, you pointed out to the sunset. We're not
going to have a sunset past eight pm anymore.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Right, right, As of a couple of days ago, the
sunset's like at seven fifty eight, and we lose a
minute on both sides. So we lose like forty minutes
of daylight in August because the sun is now rising
at six two. We're about a month ago it was
five thirty, So we're slowly losing that daylight, which I like,
Kristen likes because for the.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Kids to help them. Yeah, okay, so that's going to
help you at night. Open communication. Talk to your child
about their feelings and expectations regarding the new school year,
and address any anxieties or concerns they may have.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
We did this yesterday, did you We did. We mentioned
it to Jagger. You know, in a little less than
a month, you're going to be going back to school,
and he said, but I don't want to, and I'm like, well,
kind of have to, but you're going to see your
friends again. And he had a great time in pre
K three. It was a little hard to adjust because
he's never been to daycare or anything like that. So
once he you know, heard that he got to spend
(19:43):
time with his friends again, he got excited.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Yeah, that perks him up.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
Yeah. That's one of the big tips they say too,
is encourage their social connections by arranging playdates or meetups
with classmates before school starts reconnecting with their friends to
alleviate the anxiety. So perfect solution.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Yeah, and we've told Naomi about some of her friends
that are coming to her school from daycare to kindergarten,
so that makes her feel a little bit better. She's
not going to be all alone. There will be some people,
you know. And I'm actually looking forward to the orientation
in a couple of weeks. There's a family orientation where
you get to meet the teachers, see the hallways and.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
Do you have to sit in the little chairs?
Speaker 1 (20:16):
I hope? To me that's a right a passage?
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Isn't here we do in our school? See you probably do?
Speaker 1 (20:21):

question to be off the air. When did your anxiety
kick in? Because we all got anxiety as a kid
when school would start, either excitement or just nervousness. We
all got that certain butterfly feeling right before school started,
and you asked me when it was for me? Yeah,
and it was whenever I saw the Jerry Lewis telethon.
I used to love watching the telethon, but then I'd
(20:55):
be worried because I knew when the telethon was over.
We go to school, We go to school.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Yeah, that was the ultimate. Absolutely, Yeah, that meant the
end of summer as far as we were concerned. But
I would start in August start to feel it like earlier.
Of course I always have.

So when the calendar went to August, in your mind,
summer was like over pretty much.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
I knew it was going to come to a close
pretty soon, and that the summertime always goes so fast
when you're a kid, It flies.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Is that why you like Lona del Rey? Summertime sadness
can relate to her song real quick, Kristin, when did
you get anxiety? Did you get anxiety before the school year?
Speaker 3 (21:29):
You know what, I never did, because we always had
some type of quote unquote school activity where we would
be with our friends and do things like that. Not
summer school. We never did summer school, but high school
for instance. You know, I was I was in the
marching band, so we had band camp, and we had.
