Speaker 1 (00:00):
Went a six point seven light. If I'm good morning,
it's Kubbe Christine, producer Kristen and our dear friend fresh
off of Red Eye from La Harry Medved of the
Cinema Foundation. It's so good to see you in personal
d to see you Welleso Covey.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yeah, all things movies in his head. I mean he's
a rolodex of movies.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Yeah, thank you.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
I mean he sees all the new ones. He knows
about every single old movie. And I'll say to a
lot about movie theaters. And that's why I work for
the Cinema Foundation. And that's why I'm so happy to
be here. Because one of the reasons I came to town
is in New Jersey, in Cranford, there's a one hundred
year old theater called the Cranford Theater, and they just
celebrated their reopening last night. It's unbelievable. I love to

(00:40):
see family run movie theaters like this one.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
So woman who basically a single handle they running. Her
name is Doreen Sayeg. Her father was a projectionist back
in Jerusalem, back in the old days, and the family
just loves running movie theaters and so she has kind
of helped revive this theater that was kind of falling apart,
and it's almost like the movie is Wonderful Life. They
went through a really tough time earlier this year. They
needed some repair, and the whole community is just banded together.

(01:06):
The downtown Cranford area. It's really such a charming little town.
It's like main Street Middle America, you know what I mean, Like, no,
it's gourgeous. They really it's all red and black, these cushy,
you know, live back. Also kind of retro feeling too. No,
actually it's very modern inside. On the outside it's very retro.
They had a Ghostbusters car parked outside last night, and

(01:27):
it's just it's so much fun what they do there
for the community. They have like a whole Christmas dinner
and a movie kind of thing where they're going to
show It's a Wonderful Life, where you get to go
to the Garlic Rose Bestrown next door and then you
get the movie there. Or they do a Polar Express
like reading where they have the Cranford Bookstore coming there.
They'll read a little bit of the Polar Express and.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Then they show the movie.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
So what I love about it is that a lot
of these movie theaters, especially the independent ones, are community anchors,
and so it really affects all the local merchants. Someone's
going to go see a movie at the Cranford Theater
and then they'll go to the little you know, bar,
thet round or whatever and hang out afterwards and be
able'll come back to Downfound Granford. So I think these
movie theaters are really community cornerstones, and I'm excited about it.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Yeah, it was wonderful to see last night. Was packed.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Wonderful last night.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Actually they showed the ultimate Christmas movie, die Hard, So
here we go. Here's the debate. Well, I guess Cranford
Feels is a Christmas movie. Every year we talked about
and introduced it and said, ye, Cranford, what do you
think family audience, Harry, Oh, what are you kidding? That's
a Christmas movie just because it took place around Christmas
time and it's got Christmas themes.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
It's all about redemption.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
John McClain's got to redeem himself.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
It's wonderful.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
But by the way, speaking of Christmas movies, obviously, Wicked
for Good is still doing incredibly well. They're actually at
the Cranford. They're gonna have a talk back with some
of the Broadway stars. You probably know these people, Christine Nay,
Kevin Kern. I mean they s are actually showing up
at the theater from the Broadway production and they'll find
And actually, speaking of Broadway, this weekend, you've got Merrily

(02:57):
We Roll Along. The Daniel Radcliffe Jonathan Off production is
a film production, so Fathom Entertainment is bringing that back
to theaters.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
And that was so great. I saw them on Broadway.
It's such a great show.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
It's just a beautiful, beautiful show, such a great ensemble cast.
So people are actually buying quite a bit of tickets
to go see that this week it Yeah, and then
Wedding Crashers, the twentieth anniversary. I can't believe it's been
twenty years. Weddings It's back tonight in movie theaters. And
then on December eleventh, that's coming back. I was lucky
enough to talk to Jane Seymour earlier this week and

(03:28):
she said how that film just suddenly began a whole
new career for it was a comedian, so that's fine.
And then its Utopia two is still killing it this
weekend is getting great reviews. Everybody loves it. I'll take
a film that I actually really enjoyed. It is called Eternity,
which is a romantic comedy about the afterlife. It is
a wonderful, wonderful film with Elizabeth Olsen who has to

(03:48):
decide between her first husband and her second husband. She's
dead in the movie, she has to figure out which
one and which eternity she wants to spend. Yeah, is
it Miles Keller or Colum Turner. So it's a tough choice.
You have to see the movie to plan.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Out who she pay that too.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
That's funny that they made a movie about that. I've
wondered about after if you've had a couple of spouses,
who do you go.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
To what goes on?

Speaker 4 (04:12):
You gotta go to the movie theater to see it. Yeah,
it's actually doing quite well with adult thought an Eternity
is from A twenty four. They've also got a movie
called Marty Supreme with Timmothy Chalomey which is coming out soon.
We'll talk about that when he's amazing. He will probably
get a Best Actor in nomination. And then, speaking of
the Oscars that I told you this before, watch out
for Hamnet, which is in theaters right now. Jesse Buckley.

(04:33):
I think clear the decks. She's winning Best Actress. She
is just terrific. This is a film about the power
of theater, about the power of stories to move us,
to change us. She plays the wife of William Shakespeare,
and she's just heartbreaking in the movie.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
A last thought, I'm sorry, coming on the OSCARS, you're probably.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
Gonna say the same thing I am. Are you go ahead? Oscars? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Yeah, oh yeah, I'm going towards Wicked because we didn't
spend a lot of time on Wicked for good. I
saw it in the theaters, which you think. I really
loved it.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Yeah, it's amazing. It's amazing. You have to see it
on the big screen.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
I think so too. But do you Cynthia Rivo and
Ariana Grande, you think we're seeing Oscar nominations on the way.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
I think maybe Aririanic Grande. I don't know about Cynthia Rivo.
I think this is more Ariana's movie, isn't it. This
The first one was Cynthia's movie. This one's you know,
you develop.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
A little bit more character her character.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Yeah, but I don't know. I think I hope production design.
I mean that film is a Nathan Crowley, the guy
who just created this whole world for Wicked. For good
is brilliant. You have to see it on the big screen.
I saw it in three D, and it was like
watching a storybook come to life.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
It was so much fun. Wow.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Really, I was going down the road because you were
going down the road of big movies. Yeah, I'm going
down the road of Avatar real quick.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
We talked about that in a couple of weeks. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I've seen it. I loved it. Okay, I've seen it.
You got to see it in three D. Talk about
three D. Holy cow, that's incredible. It comes out December nineteenth, right,
and let's talk about that when I come back.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
You will dive back in that on Friday the nineteenth.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Okay, sounds good.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Well, Arry Medvin, thank you very much. Thank you guys.
Enjoy the movies. It's a great time of year.

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today.
