Speaker 1 (00:00):
New York's Christmas Station, one of six point seven Light
of Them, Carrie Underwood an Oh Holy night, Cubby with
Nina and for Christine this Morning producer Christen here And
you know today is December twelfth. And when I woke
up this morning and I saw the date twelve twelve,
I'm like, why does that sound so familiar? What happened?
I know it's twelve twelve, that's one thing, yes, but

(00:20):
something and I'm went, oh, wait, twelve twelve, twelve, thirteen
years ago was that big concert for Sandy Relief?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
And I was there.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Yeah, I went with a friend of mine and it
was like the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Kanye West. Anyway,
I bumped into Jim Kerr from Q one oh four
point three, the Rock and Roll Morning Show. Jim, how
are you? My friend?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Fine? We bumped into each other as we ordinarily do
it coffee machine right outside the door.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
But I was wondering, if you went to that concert
and he goes, Cubby, I didn't just go. I was
broadcasting live at that show. So thirteen years ago, and
what do you remember about that day?

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Oh? Well, it was it was an extraordinary day because
all of those great performers, you know, donated their time
and we had a special section set up backstage to
do a live broadcast which was a national in scope, okay,
and I was hosting it along with Maria Melito who
works with me. Yeah, next door killing the four point three,

(01:15):
and Alicia Keyes came by. We had a real nice
conversation with her, and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd came by.
We had a white couch back there, and he spilled
an entire glass of red wine on the white couch.
Any equipment get hit, and then he looked up at
us and he sort of shrugged and he said, and
I quote, I'm drunk, but you would not have known

(01:40):
had you seen him on stage, just you know, moments
before Kanye West when he went on. He was supposed
to be on stage for about ten minutes, but he
went on and on on and on and on, so
Paul McCartney had to wait. Oh wow. So that was
that was a big deal. But one of the things

(02:01):
that impressed me the most is the commitment that the
artists made, because it's not just showing up and performing
on stage in front of the crowd to raise money
for Sandy Relief. There's a lot of other work that
goes into it beforehand. And the Rolling Stones. I mean
you have to search really long and hard to find

(02:21):
bigger stars than the Rolling Stones. Their call time for
their sound check was ten am and they were there.
They were there, and they were there.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Do you know if they were getting paid for that event?

Speaker 2 (02:31):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:31):
No, right, because it was for charity, so they were
donating their time.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, all these great artists though, who I mean, it
was incredible. Yeah, it is absolutely incredible. And it was
put together by people who work here right with us
thirteen years ago today, twelve twelve twelves. That's crazy.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Do you remember that show?

Speaker 2 (02:47):
I well, I remember the show for sure. It was
broadcast everywhere. Everybody watched that show.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Ye yeah wow.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Well it actually became a movie, a feature film.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
That's right. That's right. Well, thank you for the memories.
I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
And listen.
