Christine in the morning. And today is a big day

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Dennis says, yes, yes, it's early, but I like early.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
I'm I'm a morning person. I know. I'm surprised. I'm
always on. And Audie, what time do you wake up
in the morning?
Speaker 5 (00:50):
Oh, man, I can't say I'm a morning person, but
I'm here thankfully.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Well, Michael, you've played Jeanie for eleven years now, original
cast member, right, I am Dennis and I both original right?
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yes, But if you.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Were an understudy, correct, I was, yeah, yes, and I
was the original standby in the very beginning, and then
I left to go and through some other things and
then came back.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
So, Michael, what is it about Aladdin that keeps it
stronger than ever? It keeps getting better and better, like
it doesn't die. It's the heart of our show is joy.
I always say this, Aladdin is a universal show like
music is a universal language. I feel like Aladdin is
one of those universal shows. And because of its iconic nature,
it's iconic story, people can connect to it from literally everywhere.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
In the world.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
So it's not narrow niche to what you're saying, Yes,
everybody gets it, Yes, and it's for everyone.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
We really benefit from the nostalgia of it all and
Aladdin being such an iconic you know movie, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:47):
Yeah, story, and we love the music of course, like
you said, it brings us so much joy. So Audi
for you, You've traveled across the US with the show, right,
how does it feel landing here on Broadway and kind
of staying put for a little while?
Speaker 5 (01:58):
Oh man, I'm from Jersey, so it's yeah, it's great.
It's kind of like north central Jersey it's It's Chatham, okay,
of course, yeah, yeah, but you know it was. It
was wonderful.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Again.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
I had the opportunity to take this show across the
nation and I got to experience stuff, and thankfully it
was also such a formative age for me, so like
it really let me grow into myself as a person.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Were you playing Aladdin in junior high?
Speaker 5 (02:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:26):
I was.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
I played Aladdin in a Laddin junior You got a
head start, I got a little bit of I started
a few steps ahead, but maybe one jump ahead.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
And now, Dennis, when you were an understudy, were you
secretly hoping the person that head of you would break
a leg?
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Does understudy kind of want something to happen? Or are
you just happy being there?
Speaker 5 (02:51):
You know?
Speaker 3 (02:51):
I I just went with the flow, you know, of
it all. I started in the ensemble and was the
on stage under study. Then I became the standby, which
is an off stage understudy as well, and then you know,
I was I always say I was gifted the role
by the great Jonathan Freeman, who was the original voice
of Jafar and one of the only people to portray
(03:12):
a character that they voiced in an animated film. So
I got to learn from him and uh, and he
very graciously you know, passed the as well as we say,
passed the staff over to.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
Me, literally literally over to me.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
You could you could look it up.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
It's it was a prime Yeah, at the end of
the show, they literally did that, and then it didn't
even know what.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Was your reactions.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
They called me out and he did this whole thing
with the heat that he constructed like he did it himself,
and passed the staff in front of the whole audience,
and it was just one of the most generous and
amazing things. So it felt right.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
What do you guys do between a matinee and a
nighttime show? I've always wondered.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
That nothing I have to literally I have to sit
down in my dressinger and most of the time.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
In full makeup.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
I unfortunately don't get to take off. I wish I could,
because that would help.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
I usually go home. I try to go home. I
live in Harlem, so I just I go home, even
just for an hour, yeah is good. Yeah, and eat.
I very rarely go to sleep because I wouldn't get
back up.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
So yeah, I watched reality television before each show. I
usually watch Jeopardy and uh, will afford that literally is
on my dressing room. I pause it when I go
to to Arabian Night to come back. And then I've
watched the winner. Usually see the winner my dresser and
they're always like we're like, oh my god, who what.
I'm like, you know the person that you know it's
(04:38):
been winning for weeks. Yeah, I like, I cried when
Pat Sajack left and I was like, oh my god,
it's crazy. Yeah, really is it? Oh yeah, I was
like a commentary on Fanta's outfits. It's a whole situation.
