Well, good morning, good Saturday morning. I hope you guys
are ready for a good weekend. It's going to be one.
I'm looking forward to visiting with you this morning. By
the way, you're listening to Guarden Line. I'm your host,
Skip Rickter. I'm looking forward to visiting with you about
whatever is of interest to you. Concerning your plants. We
(01:24):
have all kinds of questions come in from vegetables to herbs,
to launch the trees, you name it, house plants. We
can talk about those, certainly Christmas plants and the things
that we plant in our yards for decorating. Have you
ever thought about that, designing your landscape so that you
include some plants that are going to do really well
(01:47):
during this kind of weather conditioned or during this kind
of a season of the year, things that are going
to look good when you put them out there and
use them for decoration. For example, Now you wouldn't plant
mistletoe here, trees don't want you to do that. But
there are a lot of plants that could be included.
(02:08):
How about a holly that has berries. Not all hollies
have berries because not all hollies are female. Did you
know hollies are either male or female plants. They're separate,
different plants, male and female. There's other plants that are
like that, but certainly true hollies. So if you want berries,
well you certainly need a female plant. But in some cases,
(02:28):
if you're kind of isolated, you might also need a
male plant for a pollination. That would include yopon, that
would include well Berfort holly is a good holly for berries.
By the way, the American hollies another good one, and
so holly's are great for decorating. Then there's some other
other evergreens certainly ceed ar juniper, arborviety. Those kinds of
(02:51):
plants have a nice fragrance to the foliage and can
be used to make swaths or maybe decorate a table setting.
And we could go on and on. But how about
some plants in your landscape that can be utilized for
some holiday decoration. I think that's kind of a cool
thing anyway, So we're here to talk about whatever kinds
of plant questions you might have. Here's a phone number
(03:12):
seven one three two one two five eight seven four
seven one three two one two fifty eight seventy four.
Give me a call. We can talk about the things
that are most of interest to you. Folks at Peerscapes
are the premier landscaper that I talk about on garden
Line and have for a long time. Pierscapes is they
(03:35):
do magic. Let me just put it that way. You
look go to their website piercescapes dot com, look at
what they do, look at the kind and you may
be going, well, that doesn't look like my house. Uh well,
how would lighting look at your house? It doesn't matter
what the job is. I mean, it could be you know,
reworking a bed, redesigning, getting some things planted, in it,
(03:57):
make it look more aesthetic from the street. Uh, it
may be that what you're wanting to do is just
fix a drainage problem that you have in the back.
We had some rain recently and you may notice those
spots where water sits. How many times you hear us
talking about plants and say needs good drainage or provide
it good drainage. That's most plants need good drainage. They
(04:19):
can fix that. There's a lot of different things they
can do, from landscape lighting to hard escapes, to turning
your backyard into it's just a whole different place. Look
at the kinds of work that they do at pier Scapes.
It's amazing. And they also do maintenance. So if you
wanted to have them come out and just, let's say
on a quarterly basis, come out and just go through
(04:41):
the beds, make sure the multis replenished and any weeds
that are in there are taken out. Maybe a color change,
you know, go from one season to another, you'll switch
out the bedding plant color. They can do all of
that and more as part of their maintenance program. Piresscapes
dot Com. Here's a phone number two eight one three
seven fifty sixty two eight one three seven fifty sixty.
(05:05):
Let them make your place look unbelievably beautiful. I mean
it when I always tell you'll go to the website,
look at the pictures and what they can do. It'll
give you some ideas an inspiration too. You may be thinking, well,
I don't know what to do with that. Well, look around,
talk to them, go inside, take some pictures of your
of your place, make a make a phone connection first
(05:28):
and find out what they need you to bring. They can,
they can discuss what they might be able to do,
and uh, I think you'll like it.
Speaker 8 (05:37):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
In my own yard, I was cleaning up.
Speaker 9 (05:39):
You know.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
We had some family come in the other day, and
so you know how it is, you always have to
clean up when people are coming over. I grew up
that way. Our house got its best cleaning when family
was about to come and come in the house, or friends,
and so anyway, we were out getting some sprucing up done,
some of the garden beds and things like that. I
(06:02):
have got a lot more planning still to do. I
continue to add some new plants, and I do not
mind pulling a plan out and let me just talk
about that. For a minute. We think of our landscapes
as like something like our house. You know, let's say
you build a house, or you have a house built
on your property, and you make all the plans and
(06:23):
I want this room here and I want that to
look like that, and you set it up there. You go, well,
you don't tear your house down and rebuild it when
you get tired looking at You may do a little
bit of a renovation here and there, maybe take out
a wall, maybe add something to it, but in general,
you know, it's kind of static. Our landscapes have a
sense in which their static. You know, you're not going
(06:45):
to cut down a big, old, giant, forty year old,
beautiful tree just to put in another tree right in
that spot in most cases, although I have thought about
that with my cyperson keeps sending their knees up in
the air for me to hit with a lawnmower. But
in general, landscapes have a certain life and in that
life span they evolve a lot. So you start off
(07:08):
and you got these little trees out in the yard
that may look like broomsticks out there. They're very small
and not very not very impressive. And then there's a
day that comes where the tree leaves, you know, from
property line to property line don't allow one bit of
light in, and so you're having trouble growing anything of color,
especially underneath that. And so you're having to evolve your landscape.
(07:32):
Where once a certain kind of plant grew, well, now
it doesn't. And then plants also, we always have new
varieties coming out, new attractive varieties of all kinds of plants.
And there's nothing wrong we're doing. Our change out's kind
of like a wardrobe change out that you might have,
you know, next summer, I want to I want some
I don't know, fill in the blank for your wardrobe.
(07:53):
You can do that for your landscape, and the simplest, easiest,
cheapest way to do it is just to change out
color and beds. You can some many cases plant seeds
of things, but at least transplants too, and just have
a different look, a different color look that you're changing out.
They can get to the point where maybe you've had
(08:14):
shrubs for twenty five years in some places and they're overgrown.
You're fighting them, cutting them back, cutting them back. You
don't have to do that, you can. There's none wrong
with switching them out. There's a lot of new kinds
of shrubs, and you know, things come and go. Used
to be red tips were everywhere, red tip futenias, and
then they got into mysporium leaf spot and it was
(08:36):
horrible on them. And you just don't see many red
tips planted anymore, which, interestingly enough, the intimasporium is less
too now because they're not just everywhere. But another example
of that we it used to be very very popular
to plant boxwoods. I love box swits are beautiful, and
(08:58):
a disease comes through and it makes very difficult to
grow those boxwoods. Now the breeders are coming up with
new ones that are resistant to the disease. And so
here we go. There's a change out. Just like your
clothes had, your closets and whatnot, drawers have a change out.
You can do that in the landscape. So be thinking
about while you're having some quiet time this before the
(09:21):
rush of holidays, what do you want to do next spring,
or what do you want to do at the end
of winter. What do you want to get ready to
make something more beautiful than it is now. Well, let's
take a little break here and we will be back
with your calls at seven one three, two one two,
fifty eight seventy four. Let's keep talking plants. We got
We've got a lot of things to discuss. You know,
(09:43):
this is the season of the year when it is
the it gives plants the best advantage to plant them. Now,
that's what I'm trying to say. And the reason is
that you look at it, look outside it a dormant
tree as the leaves fall off of it, and that
tree sets are all winter and you think, well, there's
nothing happening. Well, underground, there is something happening. Roots can
(10:06):
grow at the soil temperatures we have here, and we
don't have that frost line a foot deep underneath the
soil like as you move north. But at the temperatures
we have here, roots can grow all through the winter time.
You know, fifty degrees soils that the roots are roots
are growing in those kind of temperatures. And if you
(10:26):
in the fifties, I should say not fifty is in
five zero when you plant, those roots begin to establish.
And so when as it begins to warm up and
growth speeds up and they speed up when that first
hot weather spell hits, that plant is much more established
(10:46):
in terms of getting a good root system in the
ground than one that's planted you know, mid to late spring,
for example. And it's just it's like an insurance policy
to get that done, and now be a time to
think about doing that. There's a there's a lot of
options out there. There's some beautiful shrubs and trees and perennials.
It's the same way too. When you plant a perennial
(11:08):
now by the time spring comes, you get a head
start and it will hit the ground running when spring comes,
whereas one there's planet in spring. You know, there's a
little bit of an adjustment time in order to get
that done. Now, what I would suggest is think about
what are the best plants that are shrubs and trees
for your esthetic interest but also for our area, and
(11:32):
plant those plants of ones that are naturally disease resistant.
For example, example, roses. I love roses. It's queen of
the shrubs and flowers of the yard. It's a wonderful plant.
But there's some that are a little bit susceptible to problems,
and so you can spray them and avoid that, or
you could plant one that doesn't lend itself to that,
(11:53):
and that's just a much better way to go about it.
There are many other examples of that kind of thing.
And then there's the varieties, earlier varieties maybe that are
more dwarf, more compact, more disease resistant, more esthetically pleasing.
And so think about putting that plant where it wants
to be, where it gives you what you want to
get out of it. And there's a lot of changeouts
(12:15):
that we can be doing. Right now. You head to
a place like well, let's say, Plants for All Seasons
on Highway two forty nine, Tombol Parkway and Luetta, and
they've got a good selection of shrubs and trees and
things ready to go. I highly recommend that you get
those in now. Now would be a great time to
go by and do that. By the way, when you're there,
(12:37):
check out the gift shop. It is awesome. They have
a beautiful gift shop. They've have seeds, they have everything
from wind chimes to really quality tools to bulbs. Have
a nice selection of bulbs, a lot of things that
you're going to be interested in as a gift. Or
how about this just a gift card. You got a
gardener in your list, Plants fall season gift card be
a great idea that would allow them to go in
(13:00):
and get the things that they enjoy. And when you're
your plants for all seasons, you know if you get
any gardening questions, are going to be able to help
you with that. They've been around since nineteen seventy three
and they know what they're talking about. So stop by
there again right where just north of wer Duetta comes
in to Highway Tow forty nine or tom Ball Parkways.
Plants for all Seasons dot com. I mentioned earlier that
(13:24):
we were doing some cleanup and some preparations. I've been
getting things ready for the first coal spell. We got
a little bit of a cold spell coming up, but
not a hard freeze or anything in the early forecast
looking forward. But we've been getting stuff ready and getting
the structures prepared for the citrus trees. I got some
young citrus citrus. One thing to know about them is
(13:48):
when you have a new tree, it tends to be
a little more coll tender then once it's very well established.
I know that's true of Satsuma's, which is about as
hardy of a citrus as you're going to find in
the world. Have oranges, excuse me, there's some things like
kumquats whatnot that are a little hardier. But you take
us atsuma, and when it's very young, it can get
(14:10):
damaged pretty pretty good. By mid mid twenties for sure.
Then you get that thing growing and established and doing well,
and it's just it's just a little bit hardier. We've
seen some pretty impressive temperature survived that they've survived. Satsuma,
by the way, is a mandarin type orange. You know,
the baggy skim things that are so easy to peel,
(14:32):
kind of like those qts you buy in the grocery store.
Those are little ones, but tatsumas are bigger than that.
That kind of thing makes a nice, nice plant. And
I like the fact that it's not so dark, cold tender.
So there you go. You're listening to garden Line. The
phone number if you like to give me a call,
my throat, you're gonna have to do the talking. I
(14:52):
got quit talking here. The phone number seven one three
two one two five eight seven four seven three two
one two fifty eight seventy four. Feel free to give
me a call. Be happy to visit with you about
the gardening questions that you have. I'm going to be
talking about some gardening resolutions in the weeks coming up here,
(15:13):
and so stay tuned for that. But you know how
we do New Year's resolutions every year, and well a
lot of times those don't get done, or maybe they
don't live past July or January, excuse me in a
lot of cases. But there are some great gardening resolutions
and some things I think you ought to consider. I'll
(15:34):
talk about those, and I could do it right now,
But some things to help you have success. We can
create a beautiful landscape without creating problems for ourselves. And
as someone who has created horticultural problems for themselves, I
know what I'm talking about here, and what I mean
by that is you build a landscape and you do
(15:56):
things like you have a lot of narrow angles in
the lawn for mowing, and it just takes longer to
mow a lawn when you've got these little narrow right
angles and whatnot, narrow strips, the little strip of lawn
between the curb and the sidewalk, for example. Some houses
(16:18):
have that in front. That's just a maintenance problem. And
it's easier to have nice, beautifully curbed beds designed where
it's easier to mow it's faster to get through and
get that done. And there are a lot of other
ways that we plant that create issues. You plan a
shrub too big underneath the window, and now you're forever
(16:40):
just shearing, shear and sharing, trying to keep it from
blocking the view out the window. So think about that
when you're doing your designs and try to make things
a little bit easier on yourself. We're going to be
going into pruning season. I think last week I talked
about a bunch of pruning tips and things. You want
a good quality pruner. You want things that are sharp
(17:02):
when you're going out to prune in order to do
the best job of it. But most of all, learn
how to prune properly. There's a lot of good information
out there that will tell you about proper pruning, and
you need to follow it and don't just believe what
you see online or especially on social media, but learn
about how to do it properly for each of the
(17:22):
kinds of shrubs that you have. There are some things
that most rookie gardeners do that just don't They don't
serve you well when it comes to having ongoing beauty
in your shrubs or strength in your trees, for example,
bad pruning can you can end up pay for it,
(17:43):
paying for it for the lifetime of that plant. So,
for example a shrub, shrubs grow like most all plants,
to the light, toward the light, and so you start
off with the little shrub that you're going to make
into let's say you want it to be a square
box or rectangular box shape shaped shrub or hedge, and
(18:05):
you're doing that, but what the plant does is it
doesn't grow the same at the bottom as it does
on the top. On the top it's putting out lots
of growth, stretching, reaching upward and outward, and at the
bottom it's not doing a lot of growth. And as
the top grows, it gets wider and wider. So what
used to be shaped like a capital H two straight
sides suddenly becomes a capital V where the top is
(18:29):
wide and the bottom is smaller. And as that happens,
it shades the light down low and you lose foliage
and it's very hard to get it back once you've
lost it down there. So you always want to keep
your hedges at least parallels if you're going to have
them like that, or a little narrower at the top.
I could say a capital A, but that's a little exaggeration.
(18:50):
But you get the idea of what I'm talking about there.
If you're out in the Tamboil area, you've got a
feed store at D and D Feed right there on
twenty nine to three miles west of two forty nine
and Tumble. That is just an outstanding feed sort. For example,
if you're looking for quality soils like from heirloom soils,
they carry several different types of airloom soils. They carry
(19:13):
the fertilizers I talk about on garden Line, things like
nitrofoss products, Microlife products, Nelson Turf Star, Medina products, and
they also have them by the jars. They're the Microlife
and the Nelson plant food products by the jars. When
you get inside, they have everything you need to manage pests,
(19:34):
weeds and diseases. Products you're not going to find in
a lot of places. They carry a good supply there,
certainly highlines of dog food, you know, Diamond, Victor, Star
Pro Origin, those kinds of pet foods. It's a great
place to go. It's easy to get to just three
miles west of two forty nine on twenty nine to twenty.
Here's a phone number two eight one three, five one
(19:56):
seventy one forty four. When you go in there, ask
to show you the freeze miser. It's a little gadget.
I bought my first one last year. I love those things.
You scrim onto the faucet and uh it takes care
of the freeze issues. They'll tell you how to use it,
and when you hear it, you're gonna go now, that
can't work. It does, it does work, But let them
(20:17):
show you that D and defeed, uh d and defeed
and supply. Let's take a little break here and I
will be right back with your questions. Seven one three
two one two five eight seven four.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
Everywhere you go, and here we are, look at the
five and ten.
Speaker 5 (20:38):
Let's first the season once again with candy canes and
silver lains and glue. All right, now, let's stop plans.
I have been discussing prior to going into break there.
We were talking about proper pruning for shrubs and the
fact that shrubs try to grow top heavy. That's the
(21:00):
I would put it. They spread out as they go up,
and if you have a desire for them to not
become an umbrella of foliage. You got to print them accordingly,
do a lot more pruning, keeping that top narrow so
that the base receives sunlight. Otherwise the top spreads outward
shades the base and you lose the foliage and now
(21:20):
you can see right through it, and it does become
kind of an umbrella of foliage. So just picture that.
I think an umbrella is a good analogy. Up at
the top, that's where all the foliage is, and down
below it's shade. It underneath the shade of the umbrella,
and you're not going to get good foliged. So you
can train your shrubs to do that when they get
out of hand. And maybe you're going, yeah, well, skip,
(21:42):
I wish you'd told me that three years ago or
five years ago. You can cut them back, and it
looks bad for a while because you're cutting back into
wooden sticks and limbs. Okay, but you cut them back
and they will resprout from that cutting back. Then you
got to start bringing them back into the shape you want.
(22:04):
So initially it's like, oh my gosh, it's a little
miniature hat rack. I killed it, and no you didn't.
It'll start back by the way I always cut back
lower than you want that shrub to be because it's
going to sprout, and you're going to shear off the
tips of those sprouts when they get about a foot longer.
So they'll sprout again and you'll share off those tips,
and it's getting denser and denser and more beautiful as
(22:25):
you do that. But in that process, it's getting a
little bit taller. So make sure that you go down
a little lower when you're doing that and bite the
bullet initial pruning, and you can bring a shrub back
into shape that way. A problem or or yeah, problem
is a question that I get from time to time
is about shrubs that are variegated. They get green growth
(22:48):
in them, and you may have noticed this with certain
types of lugustrum. There are several different kinds of plants.
Pit A sporum will do this too, but it's supposed
to be variegated where you have some white and green
in some sort of a pattern in the leaves, and
then there's this branch that just turns out green, and
that is happening because the shrub is reverting back to
(23:10):
its normal type variegation, and those kinds of shrubs is
not a normal thing. It is something that occurred due
to a genetic anomaly ilsay, and so you get this.
Now there's a shoot coming off the shrub that's variegated,
and so they take cuttings, they propagate it. Now you
(23:30):
have a variegated truck and it's pretty. It's a different
look for the shrub. But they will often revert back
because it's not a stable change. And so when that happens,
you got to follow the green branch, the branch of
green leaves. You got to follow it back to where
it attaches and cut it off there. And the sooner
you do it, the better because as it grows, it's
(23:51):
filling in and now when you cut it off, you're
gonna have a hole in the plant. If you let
it grow for a long time, it's going to be
a visible spot. So you want to print those out.
But that that's just an unstable variegation and that can happen.
And a lot of our a lot of our desirable
plants came from genetic variations that just occurred on a plant.
(24:14):
Not not plant breeders, not crossing, not genetic engineering. I
mean it just nature does this. In fact, one of
my favorite roses is a rose called Marie Pavier. Marie
Pavier is from a rose called I'm sorry I said
(24:36):
the wrong word. Let me let me start over on that.
There there is a rose that I love, and it's
a it's an antiquerose I believe from the eighteen hundreds
called Marie Pavier p a v I E like French
type pronunciation pavier Marie pavier. It's got little white with
the tiniest little blush of pink in them, blooms that
(24:57):
smell like baby powder, and it makes cust of them.
And it's a bush that doesn't have big thorns. It
has it has little hooks underneath the leaves, very small
little hooks under the leaves. But it doesn't have the
thorns on the branches and the shoots like a regular
rose does. And so you can plant it by a
walk that you could walk by and it's not gonna
chew you up with those thorns. I love it. It's
(25:20):
good in containers. It doesn't get very big. You can
keep it at three feet easy, easy if you want
even lower than that. But one day a fellow unnamed
Greg Graham, friend of mine from up in East Texas,
he walking by a bush and he saw a branch
with much more pink blooms on it, very quite pink,
as a matter of fact, distinctly different than Marie Paivier.
(25:43):
And he named it after a member of his family,
Marie Daily. And so now you can go buy Marie
Daily roses and all it is. It's that antiqu rose
Marie Pivier that naturally created this branch that had deeper
pink blooms. You get the choices between the two. I
like Marie Daily some really good Marie pa Vie is
(26:04):
a good one too. Mae Daily is just a little
prettier because you have a little bit more pink in it,
or at least that's my opinion. By the way, those roses,
like a lot of old roses, they have a very
different look to them. They're not your hybrid tea roses.
They have a different form of the flower that is
very beautiful. I remember when I first saw antique roses,
(26:28):
I thought, I'm just being honest with you. I thought,
those don't look like roses because they're not here. Some
roses have five petals and that's it. They're just like
a magnolia with less petals. I mean, they just old floppy,
floppy petals sticking out there. But that's a beautiful thing.
That is a natural thing. And of course breeders have
created a lot of different things over the years, including
(26:51):
hybrid teas, which are beautiful. That's what you get when
you get a dozen roses, or you're ninety nine in
the time, you're getting a hybrid t rose, and they're
very beautiful. But there's a lot of other forms that
are beautiful too, and I've come to love some of
those forms very much. Intros has its own pros and cons.
(27:13):
I like to say that plants are like people. We
got our good points and we got our not so
good points. Now I know if you're if you're sitting
with someone that you love and you just looked at
them and nodded with this accusative nod, you can get
the mirror out because you got them too. That's we
have our good points. That we have are not so
(27:33):
good points, but that's that's part of what makes life good.
All Right, you're listening to garden Line. I'm your host,
skip Rictor. We're gonna take a little break here and
we'll be back with your calls in just a moment.
Before I did go to break down. I want to
I want to talk a little bit about Microlife fertilizers.
You hear me talk about the lawn fertilizers through the year.
We just got through really promoting the the fall application
(27:57):
which is called bron patch and brown bags that we
put on in the fall, the Microlife product, But they
have so many other quality products. They have the liquids
I talk about Biomatrix, the orange label all the Time's
great for things that where you want to promote the
foliage growth on them. Biomatrix orange label seven to one
to three. It's excellent for that you go outside and
(28:18):
the Ocean Harvest Blue labels a fish based spray. It
has a little bit of a fish smell to it
and a very popular fish and moulsion type sprays have
been very very popular with gardeners for a long time.
They've also got Microlife has that is a seaweed type product.
And then they have the products that are designed to
improve the soil, like a humus based product. Humates plus
(28:40):
is one of the more common ones. There's some liquid
humus products for Microlife. You just need to check them
out by going to Microlife Fertilizer dot com. And know
this that when you do buy those products, you're getting
stuff that doesn't burn your plants. You're getting stuff that
is loaded with microbes. And that is what makes the
world go around us, especially when it comes to plants
(29:01):
and soil. Microbes are important and microlife is loaded with those.
We'll take our break now and I'll be right back.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
Don't let the sound your all start graze.
Speaker 5 (29:18):
Welcome back, folks, Welcome back to the guarden Line. Good
have you with us? Desided this enchanted gardens? Then Richmond
Rosenberg that they are having their grench Fest on December fourteenth,
the grinch Fest. Yeah, the old Green guy himself will
be out there and so that'll be from ten am
(29:40):
to two pm. So when I when I finish doing
garden Line, finish up doing garden Line. Let's see, that
would be a Sunday, I believe. Let me check that
my my calendar in my head is not not clicking
here Sunday. Yeah, that's right, fourteenth Sunday. They're gonna have
the grench out there and there will you know, of course,
(30:01):
always when you go out to in Chenni Gardens, there's
some kind of a cool shindy going on, they'll be
you can do photo op. There'll be a pop up
featuring Gramet cookies from the sugar Berry Cookie Shop, which
is kind of cool. They've got their ginger house, a
gingerbread house up. You know where the Pumpkin house is
that you guys enjoyed that during the Thanksgiving season. Well,
(30:23):
the gingerbread house is decorated just really cool, really beautiful.
By the way. It's full of cool house plants too.
You need to go check that out while you're out there.
When I think about in Chenni Gardens, I just think
about all the decorations that they have. They have arrangements
that are ready to go. You know, they'll have like
a point setta mixed with some beautiful greenery, just ready
(30:44):
to go home. Bow on it already easy, easy to do.
Makes a good gift too, by the way, Christmas cactus
for example, that's another example. And how about Topiari's rosemary
trimmed up like a little miniature Christmas tree. There's a
there's a number of different plays. They have the lemon cypress,
which is a think of it as a shark truse color,
(31:04):
more lemonye, more yellow than green. Maybe beautiful little evergreen
that's in a container makes a nice centerpiece, you know,
put some decorations around it. It's really beautiful, and the
planet out in the yard when you're done, just go
straight out in the yard with it. Cyclomanes of course,
points set is of course Christmas trees also though it
in Channa Gardens. They've got really nice a selection of
(31:29):
various garland type materials, you know, really beautiful, whether you're
using it around your door, whether you're putting across a fireplace, mantel,
lots of different kinds of wreaths and swags and lots
of variations. But you need to just plan on going
in there and coming home with stuff to make your
home look really beautiful, including from the gift shop too.
By the way, that's in Chanted Gardens. And by the way,
(31:51):
if you haven't been there before, it's on the Katie
Folsher side of Richmond. You just go to Enchanted Gardens
Richmond dot com. That's a website that'll tell you how
to get there. And the actual road is FM three
fifty nine, so it's north north of Richmond. Easy to
find and a very fun place to go. Grinchfest the fourteenth,
(32:17):
do not forget you're listening to Garden Line. I'm your host,
Skip Richter. We're here to help you have success. We
want you to have beauty, we want you to have bounty,
we want you to enjoy your garden. And so I
would encourage you to think about what kind of gardening
changes do you want to make next year. I know
it's a little bit early for New Year's resolutions, but
(32:40):
not too early to be thinking about it. So what
kind of garden changes do you want? And I don't
mean necessarily you're going to pull all the shrubs out
of a bed and put new things in. I'm talking
about things like, you know, you've never grown vegetables before,
and you don't want to plow up the yard to
plant vegetables, but you would like to grow. So how
about a raised bed that you drop on the ground
(33:03):
and a spot in the yard. Make sure it's a
sunny spot, put some quality mix in there and grow
in that. Or if you want to go smaller than that,
a very large container on your patio can grow a
lot of different things, and that would be a fun thing,
especially if you have kids or grandkids. They need to
come over and see that or be part of it.
And as they plant, when they gross stup, they're more
(33:24):
likely to eat what they grow. And then you're trying
to bring in some Brussels sprouts and talk them into it.
Good luck with that. But what kind of How about
a flower, a flower bed or an area that maybe
you've got a shrub brow and you want to extend
it out a little bit and have some color in
front of it. All that means is pulling it, pulling
(33:46):
it forward, pulling the grass out, mixing in some good
quality bed mixes there and go into town. What do
you want to do different this year? How about herbs?
Have you ever grown herbs before? You know it's the holidays,
we're doing cooking. Going out and snipping off your own
fresh herbs is a really cool thing. We did that
with some basil the other day, which, by the way,
basil is getting really unhappy with these temperatures. With basil,
(34:07):
we don't talk frosts and freeze as we say, you know,
it gets below fifty degrees and it is very very unhappy.
But we snip some off and used it to make
some pesto and some other things for cooking. That's kind
of fun. So maybe a good gift for someone would
be a small container with some herbs. You can do that.
(34:31):
You can buy them in small four inch pots or
larger gallon pots, whatever you'll do, and just give the
most selection of herbs. I'll tell you what's going to
do well here. Rosemary is once it's established, it is
a very tough plant and it's easy to grow. Comes
in many different forms too. That's a fun one. Oregano
does very very many types of oregano and they do
(34:53):
well here. Time also, Time's not as vigorous, but time
can take a lot when it gets good sunlight. All
these herbs for best results are going to need a
good amount of sunlight to do good. Be a good
gift plant, be a good one for yourself too. Let's see.
I believe we're coming close to a play out here.
(35:14):
I'm checking on that. I'll tell you what. Let's let's
do this. I'm gonna go. We're gonna go here on
the phones and talk to Adolf and Manvil. Hey, Adolf,
welcome to garden line. I just have a little bit
of time for the break hits, but we'll hold you
over if we don't finish up.
Speaker 10 (35:34):
Real quick.
Speaker 11 (35:36):
Cabbage and call it flower they're in ten ten by
ten nursery pots. What type of okay, fertilizer do I use?
Speaker 5 (35:50):
I would get you Nelson.
Speaker 10 (35:54):
Go ahead.
Speaker 5 (35:56):
Nelson makes a judge the.
Speaker 10 (35:58):
All purpose.
Speaker 12 (36:01):
Look a fertilizer.
Speaker 5 (36:04):
Well, liquids are fine. Nelson's makes a fertilizer for vegetables.
It's part of their nutri Star line. They also if
you've planted them recently, you could also scratch a little
bit of Nelson Genesis in there. That's a that's a
very good one either way. Just modern monifertilizing. Those are
designed to release a little bit over time, so that
(36:25):
that would work very well for you. Just don't overdo it.
Just you know, follow the label. It'll tell you according
to the pot size, how much to put in?
Speaker 12 (36:33):
Okay, and the posture or I mean they've been doing good.
See is that okay with you?
Speaker 5 (36:41):
Yeah? Yeah, just a modern to night. You want to
keep it growing the it's cooler in the winter, so
microbial activity is slower and so a little extra boost
of fertilizer as we go along can be very helpful.
But congratulations one, they do really well in those parts.
Speaker 11 (36:59):
Okay, real quick, can I still prank director in England's
small planks.
Speaker 5 (37:04):
Yes, you sure can. And then I'm gonna put you
on hold if you want to hang on, I'll be
back after this break. Well, good morning, let's do this.
But welcome back to garden Line. Got a lot of
(37:27):
things we're going to talk about today. I think first
thing we're gonna do here is go and take a
phone call from Sharon in the Memorial area. Hey, Sharon,
welcome to garden Line.
Speaker 13 (37:37):
Good morning, Skip, Thank you. I really have two problems.
One I looked up and on the internet what to
do with high discus before I freeze. And I've got
two really really good ones and that I'm worried about.
And so I was wondering if do you kind of
(37:59):
before the freeze, like it said, or you wait till after?
Speaker 5 (38:05):
Are these and containers are in the ground?
Speaker 14 (38:08):
No?
Speaker 13 (38:09):
These unfortunately you're in the ground.
Speaker 5 (38:12):
In the ground, okay, Yeah, Well in order to cover
them sometimes you have to cut them back for that
and so yeah, in order to in order to cover them. Well,
if you don't have to cover them, there's no need
to cut him back. You in the spring, you'll know
any branches that died, and as they start to grow back,
you'll see exactly where to cut him back to. But
(38:35):
cutting them itself doesn't do anything protecting against the freeze
other than you know, it's just make it makes it
easier to cover. That's about That's about it.
Speaker 13 (38:47):
Okay, well I was Okay, that's very good information. I
appreciate you. Okay. The other thing is I have a
train who lives at Crystal Beach and he is a
mostly a tomato gardener, but he's interested in all kinds
of gardening and likes to read books and magazines about gardening,
(39:12):
especially tomatoes. And I was just wondering where would be
a good book, What would be a good book that
I could get that would be about the Houston area,
specially Galveston, Crystal Beach Coastal.
Speaker 5 (39:29):
Okay, there's there's a number of good options out there.
A fellow named Bill Adams, William Adams living in Thak
He lives out in the Brennam area. He wrote a
number of years ago the Texas Tomato Lover's Handbook, and
he was an extension Texas Tomato Lovers Handbook by William Adams.
(39:55):
He was a horticulturist in Houston with the Agrolafe Extension
office from many many years. Yeah, well that if you're
you know, you said the guy likes to grow tomatoes,
he needs that one. Uh, there are there's another one.
There's another one that uh a fellow named Greg Grant.
I mentioned Greg earlier wrote and it's called Texas Fruit
(40:19):
and Vegetable Gardening by by Greg Grant, and it has
both as the name implies both fruit and vegetables, and
so that would be another one for the fellow. Specifically,
there's a lot of good Texas gardening books, but I
think those would be ones that you would you would enjoy.
Speaker 13 (40:40):
Well, I appreciate that so much. I remember Bill Adams
being on the rail.
Speaker 5 (40:47):
Yes, yes, Bill. Bill's a great guy. Absolutely information. All right,
thank you for the call. Appreciate that. Glad to talk
about things like that. He's a Bill you know, he's
one of those fellows that knew so much about or
(41:09):
knows so much about horticulture.
Speaker 10 (41:13):
Just his.
Speaker 5 (41:14):
Just estimate a knowledge alone is amazing, absolutely amazing. Have
you been to the Arborgate recently? You know, it is
where you need to go in order to get your
Christmas tree if you haven't already. Beautiful gorgeous trees that
they have out there. What they do is they get
their trees in from the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina.
(41:36):
And these are just absolutely stunning Fraser firs, wonderful fragrance
and everything. They take such good care of them that
they're fresh when you get them, and that's very important.
You've got the short, soft needles and really thick, hardy branches,
deep green color. I just love the fragrance of them.
But we're talking about the Arbrogate, and the Arborgate is
(41:56):
a place where you go for all kinds of fun things.
So we're gonna I'm gonna have Beverly call in tomorrow.
I think I'm gonna talk to Beverly Walter at the
Arborgate tomorrow, and I would recommend that you listen in.
We're gonna have some guests. I've got a couple of
guests talking about things going on around the Houston area today,
and you're gonna hear from some folks as we go
(42:17):
through the morning show. So stay tuned, don't go away.
Arburgate's got a beautiful gift shop, and I mean really nice,
stunning gifts is in there. It's just just gorgeous. If
you're looking to do Christmas decorations, wreaths, and you name it.
I let me sit here for an hour just talking
out all the different kinds of things. Arburgate's got you
(42:40):
covered for that. Sant and Miss Clause are coming to
the arbor Gate, and I'm going to tell you all
a little bit more about that when we get Beverly
on here a little bit later today. But they will
be there tomorrow, so I'll just give you the teaser
on that, but we'll talk about a little bit more
as we go through. While you're at at the arbor Gate,
(43:01):
check out all the gorgeous color that they have for
your landscape. I was telling you earlier you need to
grow some herbs. They've got a nice selection at the
arbor Gate, and you know when you go there, you're
always going to be treated right. They are going to
take care of you. They're going to make sure you
get the right plant that fits what you're looking for,
and they're going to help you know how to grow it.
(43:21):
And if you have any problems, you can come back
in there. You take a picture or take a whatever
and say, Okay, this is happening, and maybe it's not
even a plant you bought there to say this is happening.
What do I do about this? How can I what
are even a question like what would be a good
plant for this particular area. These are gardening experts. They
know what they're talking about. I always love to go
(43:43):
out there myself. It's a fun place to visit at
the arbor gate. You were listening to garden Line and
I'm your host, Skip Richter. We are here to help
you have success in your gardening, and that is my
number one goal. And you know my keys to success
begin with the soil. The way I say it, to
(44:05):
make it as simple as I can possibly, put it
as brown stuff before green stuff, and all that means
is get that soil right. That's the brown stuff. That
means good internal drainage, good nutrient levels, good external drainage.
Get it right, and then put the plants in and
you will be eighty five percent of the way to
(44:26):
success just from having gotten the soil right. Cienamultch is
where you can do that. Cienamlch is south of Houston
near Highway six and two eighty eight on FM five
twenty one. Right down their website because it tells you
everything you need to know siennabultch dot com. They continue.
You know, it's always been the place for every kind
of quality soil mix, including things from like heirloom soils
(44:49):
or veggie nerve mix. I know they carry that, it's Siena.
You can also get quality nutrients like microlife products, Medina products,
nitrofoss products, Nelson products, Azamite products. They've got all of
that there, and now they have so many other cool things.
It's actually a Christmas gift shopping place. If you like
(45:11):
some really cool outdoor rustic yard art, they've got that.
If you want some beautiful decorations for inside, you know,
like a ceramic string of vegetables on a rope, you
just have to see it. It's really beautiful. I can't
do it service trying to describe it. Just make sure
you go into the shop when you get there and
take a look at it. At Ciena Maltch again, they're
(45:33):
open on Monday through Friday seven thirty to five Saturday,
that would be today seven thirty to two and closed
on Sunday. Cnamulch. Let's take a break and we'll be
back with your calls in just a moment.
Speaker 4 (45:46):
Ingle bells playing and jingle bells, Rain Snow one and
Blowe as the.
Speaker 5 (45:53):
Fun the Jingle upd Jingle Bell Jaring. Welcome back to
garden Line. As we are diving deeper and deeper into
the holiday season, I hope you are having some good
(46:15):
plans and have a wonderful, blessed holiday too. By the way, Uh,
lots of rest. That's always a good thing, an enjoyable
time with family. This is one of my favorite seasons
of the year. I like holiday music first of all,
by the way, Christmas music specifically. Uh, and it just
I don't know, I just I enjoy it, I really
(46:36):
really do. Whether it's the in laws or the outlaws,
I don't know. You may have both, as I do.
I've got in laws and I've got outlaws, and I'm
not telling any of them who they are. They'll have
to figure that out. I probably am an outlawd to them.
Who knows. Hey, you're listening to garden Line. I'm your host,
skip Rictor. Here is a phone number if you would
(46:58):
like to give me a call. Seven months three two
one two fifty eight seventy four seven one three two
one two five eight seven four. Your trees have been
struggling since gosh. Back in August we began a pretty
significant drought. They went really dry. Now we've had a
lot of rain just now, most areas have, but those
(47:21):
stresses there, they're hard on trees, and so you always
need to take good care of these things because these
are these single most valuable plants in your landscape. You
want to make sure that they're properly cared for. From
the time you plant a tree on you have begun
the pruning process. Even starting with planting time, there's a
(47:42):
training process and those first few years are very important.
Developing good strong branches on your tree. Somebody needs to
know what they're doing. And then as it gets bigger
and bigger, all the more. So you don't need to
turn your trees over to just someone who owns a
pickup and a chainsaw. You need a professional. And uh,
if you talk to Martin spoon More at Affordable Tree Service,
(48:03):
you're talking to a professional. You can call Martin at
seven one three, six nine nine two six sixty three
seven one three six nine nine two six six three.
He will come out to your trees, take a look
at him, see what you need. If you are needing pruning,
he'll tell you explain to you what's needed and how
they're going to go about it. For any tree that
(48:26):
you are going to have pruned, Martin will First of all,
he does it right. He understands tree growth, he understands
how they respond to pruning. So the pruning cuts that
he makes are going to be ones that help create
health in that tree. Now, forever tree that you have
him prune, he'll do a free deep root feeding of
(48:47):
that tree. So there you go. That's an extra free
bonus that you can get. Seven one three six nine
nine two six six three. When you call Affordable Tree,
there's other companies out there that put affordable in the
name and kind of they're not part of Martin's team.
They're not part of his family. So when you call,
you will talk to a family member. It'll be Martin.
It'll be his wife Joe, or his mom Judy. Martin, Joe, Judy,
(49:11):
those are the three people that answer the phone there,
And so if you get somebody else, then hang up
call the wrong place. Seven to one three six' nine
nine two six sixty. THREE i just locked my view
of the call. Phone there here we. Go, yep There's

i just make sure it doesn't, freeze but it'll it
may abort some of those depending on the size of
the plant and the size of the pot and so.
On typically it won't set a load heavier and keep
a load heavier than it can. Support but if it got,
really really, thick you, know you could take a little
(50:15):
bit off of.
Speaker 6 (50:15):
It but, GENERALLY i just love the trip THAT i.
Speaker 8 (50:19):

At Medina Medina products have so many excellent products that you.
Know medine's been around for a long. Time it's probably the,
oldest longest running sponsor garden. Line way way before, me
Before Randy, Lemon medina was sponsoring a garden line and their.
(51:51):
Products the whole Time i've been in, Horticulture BASICALLY i
have heard about people using, them talk to people that use,
them listen to people brag on the. Products and then
AS i became a gardener, MYSELF i certainly try. It
and If i'm talking about a product on the, Air
i've used, it because that's that's just how it. Is
i'm not going to promote something THAT i don't know.
(52:11):
Works medina. Works it's as simple as. That Medina plus
was developed a number of years, ago not too, many
but the old Standard medina soil activator still great, product
been around a long. Time well they took it and
they kind of beefed it up a little. Bit it's
got some seaweed extracts in. There it's got some essential
(52:32):
micro nutrients in it as. Well you get all the
soil building advantages of the Old medina plus these extra
ingredients it makes it a good folier feed for all
kinds of, plants, trees, shrubs lawns and, vegetables whatever you.
Want seaweed extract itself has a number of good. Things
it helps protect plants against, stresses you, know stresses from, drought,
(52:53):
stressing even from, cold and it helps improve the nutrient

Line, Hey, hey good. MORNING i moved up from The Lake,
conrad my wife AND i about about three years, ago
roughly into a brand new home and had a newly soldid.
Lawn and we moved up here from The Friends with,
area so totally different. Soils we had a gumbo soil
there and up here the most. Beautiful below the, surface
(53:49):
it would look like a brick layer's mortars bill sandy almost.
Even and So tom was put down and it has
just been. Pathetic no matter how much we, water we
just cannot get this grass to take root and get.
Going and SO i bought this little pH tester this you,
(54:10):
know kind of midsummer AND i tested it and it
said that it was too. Alkaline the soil was too
alkaline For Saint. Augustine, so being the GENIUS i, AM
i started researching that and THEN i bought some Products
i've been told various things from like, LANDSCAPERS i, mean
uhn line. Guys and then the RESEARCH i did SAID
(54:33):
i basically kind of learned MAYBE i need to put
some kind of iron product down on the. Grass tried
some iron eye and a couple of other ammonious sulfate
or something and iron sulfate or aluminum. Sulfate maybe that's.
It but, anyway so my question, is is there's SOMETHING
i can do in the winter like now to lower
(54:56):
that pH if you can think that that's a legitimate,
issue lower it to maybe help me, going you, know
forward for next.
Speaker 5 (55:07):
Spring, Well, TOM i would be surprised if your pH
is too high. THERE i think having a soil test
would be a good. Idea have you have you? Ever
have you seen my schedules, online my lawn care schedules
my a new.
Speaker 10 (55:24):
Chance, NO i have.
Speaker 6 (55:28):

lawn care scheduler there on that, schedule there is a
link to soil testing. FORM i would suggest you get
the soil tested for nutrients and pH. Uh and a
photo of your lawn right now won't help a lot
because it you, know it's gonna look bad going into
winter a little. Bit but in the spring you can
send me photos of it and we can talk about
(56:12):
it in more. Detail but there are a lot of
possibilities that it could. Be and, Again i'm, Sorry i'm
against an absolutely heartbreak in five seconds, here but if
you want to hang, around we can talk a little
bit after we come back or do. That so all
testing and let's let's. Talk thank, you thank you very
much for your.

giving away four Inch christmas cactus with the purchase today
while supplies. Last and they're very. Pretty they're gloomy and
just a Great christmas gift.
Speaker 5 (58:36):
Too it is and that is a that is a
plant that is not hard to take care. OF i
stick mine outside and outside of direct, sun you, know
and outdoors and water them as often AS i can remember.
To they somehow just hang.
Speaker 8 (58:53):
On and.
Speaker 7 (58:55):
If they're, happy they bloom more than once a. Year
they bloom several. Times, know, wow keep them out of the.
Speaker 5 (59:02):
Wind, okay another tip on? Those all, right, well what
any anything else about the event that we should.
Speaker 7 (59:12):
Know, well we're going to well we're going to be
serving refreshments as. Well so uh if you're a little
neat a little snack while you're, there we have people
have tables full of.
Speaker 10 (59:23):
Food all.
Speaker 5 (59:26):
Right that sounds? Good that is that is? Good? Cool?
Speaker 7 (59:32):
Uh come home you make it, out, yes, yes, yes
come hungry and enjoy walking around and seeing the beautiful
fall flowers we have on the. Tables it's just really
really pretty right, now.
Speaker 5 (59:48):
You guys always have just flats to the horizon all
directions out there with your your plants and, things so
that that's, fun. Folks mosses is one of those garden
centers that the WAY i describe it as if you
combine a botanical garden with a museum and fill it
with gorgeous plants of all types and an incredible broad
(01:00:09):
selection of. Pottery that's moss. Nursery so it's a it's
eight acres of wonderfulness to wander. Through so here's yet
another reason to show up out there. Today that sounds.
Fun that's.
Speaker 7 (01:00:21):
It it will, be and we're looking forward to seeing.
Everyone good.
Speaker 5 (01:00:26):
Good you, KNOW i love YOUR i love the house
plant greenhouse too that you guys have out. There it's
just so extensive people that are in. You we're entering
the cool season when some of our gardening is a
little more indoors and then outdoors as during the milder
months of the. Year but you guys have got tropical.
(01:00:47):
Foliage you've got string of you name, Its you've got,
everything the hollows and howarthias and all the other succulents and.
Things THAT'S i if you would hang a hammock in,
THERE i might just stay in there and sleep in
there and spend all my time in the house greenhouse
BECAUSE i like.
Speaker 12 (01:01:04):
IT i think we could do.
Speaker 5 (01:01:05):
THAT i saw something the other day that you guys
are also. Getting you had some bones eye in for a.
While but could YOU i don't want to throw you
a curf, here but could you tell us a little
bit about the kinds of bones eye you, have you,
know in terms of sizes and.
Speaker 7 (01:01:23):
Whatnot, well we have we just got in this week
some little junipers and they're like five, inch six, inch eight.
Inch we have larger bones eye as. Well and the
prices range from depending on what the plant, is how
old it, is and so all the work that's been
(01:01:45):
put into it to make it look. Beautiful so there's
something for. Everybody AND i know everybody likes the juniper
and they want to put it, inside but please please
let it let it live. Outside.
Speaker 5 (01:02:01):
Yeah, yeah they need they need, Light they need lots of.
Light so but those are. Good another thing THAT i
think is underplanted here in The houston area or. Camellias
AND i know you guys have a really nice variety of,
camellias including that beautiful red yule Tide sussanka. Camellia uh,
(01:02:22):
yeah Just december And january And february and what you,
know what's going to be. Blooming u there there's a
series of camellias that'll take you through through that.
Speaker 7 (01:02:32):
Season oh, yeah we have plenty of sussinkuas And, japonicas
The japonica with the big. Bloom we have all different
varieties colors of. Those so if you're interested in something
that blooms this time of, Year camellia is your. Plant
that is.
Speaker 1 (01:02:50):
That.
Speaker 5 (01:02:51):
Well one THING i from time to TIME i talk
about on the show is that go look at your
landscape and imagine that through the twelve months of the
year or the four. Seasons spring is. Easy everything blooms
in spring and that's not. Hard summers a little, tougher
but we have some good summer tough. Plants and then
there's the surprises that pop up in the, fall the
bloomers a, fall and then here here we are talking
(01:03:13):
about winter and now we've even got flowers in the winter.
Time SO i think planning the landscapes that looks good
twelve months out of the year is a good. Idea
anything Else.
Speaker 7 (01:03:27):
I'm trying to. Think we have a nice selection of,
herbs right now as. Well uh.
Speaker 1 (01:03:36):
M.
Speaker 5 (01:03:36):
Hmm there's always a lot of.
Speaker 10 (01:03:42):
Yeah the.
Speaker 5 (01:03:46):
M, okay, well there's plenty of, reasons plenty of reasons
right there to show up out. There. Well uh and
this is Mos, nursery. Folks it is On Toddville road In, Seabrook.
Texas And i'm going to give you a phone number
you got any questions based on our conversation here With
patty AND i today that the number is two eight
(01:04:06):
one four seven four twenty four eighty. Eight two eight
one four seven four twenty four eighty. Eight go out.
Today it is a perfect day with the event that
they've got going and check out their, nursery seventy year old,
nursery family operated eight acre source of everything that you
need for your garden and your interior scapes as. Well,
(01:04:29):
patty thank you so much for coming. ON i really appreciate.
Speaker 7 (01:04:32):
It thank you for having me. Today thank you all.
Speaker 5 (01:04:36):
Right good, luck, y'all take. Care all, right let's go
to a little break here and we'll be back with
your calls in just a. Moment pull the, intays.
Speaker 3 (01:04:47):
Excell, hey welcome back to Garden man bull job.
Speaker 5 (01:04:53):
Be dad to join us. Today the pass conc we
were out conscious filling some feeders, recently out of bird
feeders out in our, landscape and it just reminded me
to remind you to keep those things. CLEAN i had
a feeder that had a little bit of. Moisture it
had some rain come in almost a horizontal and it
(01:05:15):
got some of the. Seed but and when that, happens
it kind of cakes up and it can get moldy
and nasty and. Everything you don't clean those, out that'll
be a good time to do it before you refill
your your. Feeders this do always check that and make
sure it's. Clean one of the, reasons one of the
many reasons like wild birds unlimited is because they have
products that are are high. Quality and so for, example
(01:05:38):
if you're looking for a hopper type, feeder you know
that's that's The if you were to ask one hundred,
people you, know draw me a bird, feeder what does
it look, Like they're going to draw you a hopper type,
feeder you, know the kind with the glass on both
sides and it kind of it funnels down to where
the seeds are dropped. Out it's got a little roof on.
It the class it's an eco tough tough hopper feeder
(01:06:02):
About Wildbirds, unlimited recycled. Materials it drains very very. Well
it has a little bit extra roof size on there
to kind of protect against the rain and. THINGS a
real easy, access beautiful feeder they. HAVE i have also from,
there their squirrel proof feeder that is an. Eliminator it's
(01:06:22):
called an eliminator. Now the eliminator that when anything lands
on the, perch if it's too, heavy it closes the
door so squirrels can't get. In you can even set
it where only like a little bird would get, in
and a heavier bird in blue jay or something tries
to land on there and get in, there it's going
to close down on. Them so there's an adjustment to
(01:06:42):
it comes, apart cleans. Easily it's basically a lifetime. Feeder
it's an, excellent excellent product that they have At Wildbirds.
Unlimited by the, way there's six. Stores if you're not
familiar with, that you can go to WB U Wildbirds,
unlimited W eu dot, com Forward Slash houston and find the.
(01:07:03):
Stores like if you're up In, kingwood there is A
kingwood store On Kingwood drive on the west side Of.
Houston There's Memorial drive store at kind Of south And.
West there's the Bel air store up In Cypress Barker,
cypress across the town over And Claire. Lake we've Got
Eldorado boulevard and In pairland On East. Broadway those are
all Wild Birds unlimited stores in our. Region when you're,
(01:07:26):
there pick up some of The nesting Super. Blend just
ask them saying with The nesting Super Blend skip was talking,
about they'll show it to. You it is a very
high protein and fat and calcium. Too by the, way
for birds in this, season you, know as the day
length gets shorter and as the amount of you, know
(01:07:47):
bugs and things out there to capture and eat goes,
down birds are needing that high quality food in order
to maintain them through the winter. Season nesting Super blends an,
excellent excellent way to do. THAT i got their pole.
System by the, way this would be a nice gift
if you want to buy somebody a gift or Wild Birds.
Unlimited one of the quality feeders that's, one some seed
(01:08:09):
to go in it that's, two and then the advanced
pole system if you want to take it up a.
Notch these are, nice well, designed very sturdy. Posts that
you can hang the feeders. On if you've got issues with,
squirrels just talk to them about. It they have a
lot of solutions for keeping the squirrels from eating all
the feed that you had out there for the. Birds
(01:08:29):
weld birds. Unlimited check them. OUT i always like. IT
i just enjoy in THE i don't know, why but
especially in the cool, season getting out there and seeing
the birds coming to the. Feeders it just kind of
a stark setting outside as we get into winter and
(01:08:50):
things kind of dormant and, whatnot and seeing the birds
come up and just being able to enjoy them out
there at the. FEEDER i really enjoy. That that's been
something THAT i would used to not be much of
a bird, person not THAT i had anything givest, them
just wasn't re into. It and THEN i went to Wild,
birds so you had been. Forewarned it's addictive and it's fun.
(01:09:11):
TOO i know you will enjoy. That you're listening to
Garden line the phone number seven one three two one
two five eight seven four seven to one three two
one two fifty eight seventy. Four someone called earlier and
asked about a book for some friend of theirs that
is into growing, tomatoes AND i had suggested for them

author here horticulture expert for decades here in The Greater houston.
Area it's an awesome. BOOK i also mentioned The Texas
fruit And Vegetable Gardening book by my Friend Greg, grant

you with. It they all carry, seeds and seeds are
such a fun. Way most of them are going to
carry little seeds starting, containers seeds starting mixes and, things
and some of them even seeds starting. Lights and it
is a fun thing to grow your own. Transplants you
(01:12:54):
can grow things you can't find as transplants locally by
growing them your own. Seed and that is a thing
you can. Do in the, wintertime it can be a
horrible day outside and you're inside just having the time
of your. Life enjoying starting seeds in, doors SO i
encourage you to try that this winter. Time all, right,

Indoor plants that can be given us teacher gifts or
housewarming gifts if you don't want to do a traditional
point set of.
Speaker 10 (01:17:19):
Which we have many and many varieties and.
Speaker 1 (01:17:21):
Colors but you can get a nice houseplant that'll go
on living and lasts a whole lot longer than you,
know cut flowers or.
Speaker 5 (01:17:32):
Something, yeah that's that's. True and your greenhouse is just.
Awesome there there's so many cool. Plants one thing that's
nice about giving somebody a plant is every time they
look at that, plant there's the memory of the fact
that you gave it to. Them you did you did
that for just a connection between. PEOPLE i know you
(01:17:52):
guys always have a good selection as, citrus AND i
think citrus is worth growing for the blooms, alone the
fragrance of the. Blooms but oh, yeah actually do get you,
know oranges and lemons and limes and different. THINGS i
think that'd be a good gift.
Speaker 1 (01:18:09):
Too, yeah and you are fully stocked on citrus right,
now even though as we go into the cold season
they require protection and moving. Inside for, us we do
have a really good selection of a lot of different
varieties of, citrus lemons or. LINES I i you, KNOW
(01:18:30):
i walk by on my way to my office every
day or multiple times a, day and you, know occasionally
if it's bluing, EXCELLENCE i love the smell of blooms
like you. Mentioned but, also you, know occasionally that's not
on a regular, basis but as a, Treat i'll you,
(01:18:50):
know take a leaf and mash that up and the
smell nap and really enjoy that, fragrance which can also
be used in uh in cooking and stuff and. Recipes
so it's a great all around useful and pleasant to
have in the.
Speaker 10 (01:19:08):
Garden it.
Speaker 5 (01:19:11):
Is it really is a nice. PLANT i don't. KNOW
i have just added two centrist to my landscape this past,
year AND i just love those. Things that's a lot of. Fun,
now you, GUYS i believe you still have your fifty
percent off on your pottery. Selection AM i correct and saying, That, YEAH.
Speaker 1 (01:19:32):
I think there's still select pottery is on sale and
there's still a lot of good deals, there you, know
us seeing a native plant their.
Speaker 10 (01:19:45):
Stream we still have a you, know.
Speaker 1 (01:19:48):
Frankly tier selection of landscape plants and native plants that
now is a perfect town of. Plants, also if here
you're looking to plant, trees now the excellent time to
plant ornamental trees or citrus. Trees but we've gotten a
(01:20:08):
full full stock on our nursery in addition to half
the nursery being like taken over By christmas trees and
garland and, ens and get plenty of those as.
Speaker 10 (01:20:20):
Well but, yeah we make we.
Speaker 1 (01:20:23):
Make efforts to keep stock of things that do well
and can be planted now or year round frankly In
houston and uh AND i think we've we've.
Speaker 10 (01:20:36):
Got a great.
Speaker 1 (01:20:37):
Selection, Additionally, urge as you, know you go to the
store and buy cutterbs any years them and then vinantam
by it, again we've got.
Speaker 10 (01:20:49):
The plants that you can.
Speaker 1 (01:20:50):
Plant you can plant them now and it will grow
and and as you take from, it it'll just keep
replenishing for all your face ripped holiday. Recipes but we're
gonna actually on herb selection right, now and they well
they've kind of got moved in there and then looked
better THAN i were right.
Speaker 5 (01:21:09):
Now, right, well you always do have good herbs Are
AND i noticed your native of the week is a
two wing silver, bell and that is a tree THAT
i very seldom hear people talking, about but it is
such an outstanding tree that you'll find in the forest
as you go up from here up Into East texas and.
Things it's a great. Tree, YEAH i got a planet.
Speaker 12 (01:21:28):

highlight things that are not commonly. Used AND i think
two wings silver. BELL i remember a customer telling me
how great it was full, size and when it, blooms
it just looks incredible.
Speaker 10 (01:21:50):
First thing in the. Spring So i'm excited to be highlighting.

know folks that live In houston and, area The Greater
houston area and garden are. Fortunate we have so many
outstanding garden centers here in The Greater houston, area north, south,
east West. Central it doesn't matter where you, live there's
(01:23:43):
at least one Well worth within driving distance for, you
AND i encourage you to take advantage of. That it
IS i say this, Before i'll say it again when
you support a local garden. Center in addition to just
the you, know the thing of supporting local, businesses which
(01:24:04):
is always, important you were doing yourself a favor because
you're getting plants that you know are going to grow,
here not something shipped to the chain all over the,
country but something that was selected by people from here
who garden, here who know plants to sell you for your. Yard,
secondly the advice the, advice and it's not just advice
(01:24:28):
on the one thing you. Purchased you go in there
and you talk to them about other. Issues are the
plants that you. Have they're going to help. You they're
going to look at a picture you have on your
phone or a sample that you bring in or something like.
That they're going to take time for. You And i'm
telling YOU i talk to a lot of folks and
by email as, well that you, know they plant something
and they it's having problems and they reach out And i'm, thinking,
(01:24:51):
okay well take that Blush bruce back To colorado where
you got brought it back from or from the box
store that shouldn't have sold it to you, here and
it just that's a huge waste of money to do.
That why not have success by going to people that
are here locally that'll support you and they are great with, customers.
(01:25:12):
Knowledgeable that is so, important so very. Important all, Right
well That i'll SAY i said it, again but THAT
i think is absolutely. True really really love to support
our local garden. CENTERS i love to visit them. Too
And i'm telling, you if you're in the Greater houston
area and you haven't been to all the garden centers around,
here it's worth a drive just to get out and
(01:25:34):
enjoy and see something. New you, know you got your,
locals your, favorites the ones near you and, things but
try some other ones out there are some really nice.
Ones every garden center has its own, personality the kinds
of things they, carry the layout of. It it's all,
unique which is fortunate for us. Here lots of. Fun all,
(01:25:54):
right there you, Go, hey you're listening to Garden. Line
if you'd like to give me a call seven one
three two one two five eight seven four seven one
three two one two fifty eight seventy four give me a.
Call let's talk about the things that you might be interested.
Speaker 10 (01:26:09):
In.
Speaker 5 (01:26:09):
NOW i want to talk a little bit about some
ideas for your garden next. Spring every, year when we
get into the spring, season people get really into. Gardening
that's when spring gardening fever. Hits AND i mean, it
it affects our, brains it definitely. Does but prior to that,
(01:26:33):
time planning out what you want to, do planning out
some things you want to, try and thinking long, term
like you can't turn your, WELL i mean you. Can
you can hire somebody to turn your complete landscape completely
into a, beautiful show stopping paradise for. You but most
(01:26:53):
people are going in and they're, saying, Hey i've got this,
HERE i want to improve on it a little. Bit
i'd like to try something. There maybe it is a
view that you don't want to. See it could be a,
neighbor could be a building, nearby could be who knows.
What you can put up evergreens and you can create
a screen for, that and there's ways to do, it
(01:27:14):
and now's the best time to get it. Done cold
season is the best time to get that done and
plant it. Out maybe you would like. Fragrance that's one
of the changes That i've been making my landscape over
the last year is adding more. Fragrance i've still got a,
brugmencia which is called angels trumpet that is. Blooming it's
not going to be once we get a good hard
(01:27:35):
cold spell in, here but it still has some blooms on,
it and in the evening, time those blooms release a
fragrance that is just. HEAVENLY i put it on the
southwest side of our patio so that as that prevalent
southwest breeze that's mainly the breeze we, get especially in
the summer and, fall as that breeze is blowing, through
the fragrance just comes right. In it makes it so.
(01:27:57):
Nice And i've got some other fragrant. Plants confederate jasmine
also called star, jasmine a grape. Vine it's an. Evergreen
it's screens, views it grows, fast and the fragrance is.
Heavenly there you, go let's do. This let's go out
to the. Phones we're going to head To cleveland now
and visit With. Cynthia, Hey, cynthia welcome to Garden.
Speaker 14 (01:28:18):
Line well how you doing? Today skip doing?
Speaker 5 (01:28:22):
Well thank?
Speaker 14 (01:28:23):
You, LOOK i have a. Question i've got a full
grown pear tree in my, backyard and also we've planted an,
orchard so we have three different kinds of pear trees in.
It but the full grown pear tree puts on little bitty,
pears but they never get. Big they stay little bitty
(01:28:46):
all year.
Speaker 6 (01:28:46):
Long and the other how big is little.
Speaker 5 (01:28:51):
Pep how big is little? Bitty? Okay all, right, yeah.
Speaker 14 (01:28:56):
Yeah but the other pear trees on the orchard are
they put on pear trees and they got full. SIZE
i don't know what to do with this big one
to make it.
Speaker 5 (01:29:06):
Produced, okay what you have there is not an edible pear.
Variety that is a rootstock that for some reason the
graft or the bud that was put on it died
and the rootstock was raised as the tree rather than
the improved. Variety all most pairs are grafted onto a
(01:29:28):
rootstock called Pus pirus. Calariana it's the when you see
the Ornamental bradford pears around. Town that's pirus, calarianna and
the fruit on it isn't even the size of a.
CHERRY i, mean it's very, small very, small and uh
so your options are to dig it up and buy
a new tree to put, in or if you want
(01:29:49):
to get out there and do some, trying you can
graft individual branches on that tree over to improve. Varieties
have more than one on a tree if you. Want
be kind of. Interesting BUT i think for most, people
pulling it up and just putting a new one in
it is probably your best.
Speaker 14 (01:30:04):
Spout, well this thing is so, big and it makes
such a beautiful shade tree in the. SUMMERTIME i think
What i'm going to do with. IT i, MIGHT i
might try to grasp some into it and see if that.
Works BUT i Think i'm just gonna go out there
and put a partridge in it and call it.
Speaker 5 (01:30:20):
Good there you, Go there you. Go It's. Christmas why
not a couple of turtle? Doves three turtle doves to be,
specific or is it TOO i can't. REMEMBER i just start,
saying remember.
Speaker 14 (01:30:31):
How turtle doves Three french?
Speaker 6 (01:30:33):
Hands but.
Speaker 5 (01:30:35):
Oh, okay must be two turtle. Doves thank?
Speaker 12 (01:30:41):
You all?
Speaker 5 (01:30:43):
Right you take care of. That appreciate your. Call there you,
go all, right. YEP a lot of fruit trees are.
Grafted peaches always. Grafted uh used to always be the same.
Roots like there was a rootsyc Called Nima guard that
was used for years and years and years because it
(01:31:03):
is resistant to nematoe. Damage now you have some other riot.
Stocks sometimes they get grafted to but peaches. Grafted apples are.
Grafted pears are. Grafted apples are grafted for root and
crown base of the plant right, issues and to control.
Size controlling size is one of the main reasons we
put apples on various root. Stocks there's rootstocks that your
(01:31:27):
apple tree is going to be about six seven feet,
tall and there's root stocks that'll be thirty feet. Tall
so there's just some things to think. About anytime you're
going to, plant you gotta do the soil. First anytime
you got to do the sol. First if you're south Of,
houston you need drive over To Siena, bultz take your,
trailer take your truck and you can get it if
you're within twenty Miles collum for a, fee they will.
(01:31:49):
Deliver they can deliver. Bulk they can deliver by the,
supersack which is a cubic yard. Sack however you want
to go about, it just do. It just get Their
their stuff is top, quality top quality. Compost not this
not sour, compost not something wasn't made. Right it's top.
Quality stop and when you're in, there you got to
(01:32:10):
go in and check out all the new items that they.
Have they have a stock of. Seeds if you don't
do a little gardening with, seeds they've got. That they've
got quality. Tools you're looking, for gifts like local, honey, soaps, candles,
lotions leather, goods decorative ceramic type items like The, shrimmys
which is a little mushroom that's, ceramic glossy, ceramic, ceramic real.
(01:32:34):
Beautiful anyway you get the. Idea Cmal cenamals dot. Com
they are ON fm five twenty one south Of, Houston
Siena maltz dot. Com you're listening to me and you're
In pomona Or, alvin Or Lake, Olympia Quell, Valley, riverstone
maybe you're In meridiana Or. Manvil this is, It, siana
Malt that's all you need to. Know it's the start
(01:32:56):
of the road to. Success it's the foundation for success
for your. Plans simple this. Out we're gonna take a
little break here and we'll be back with your calls
at seven one three two one two fifty eight seventy.
Four give you that again seven one three two one
two five eight seven. Four if you have not been
to my website gardening With skip dot, com my lawn
(01:33:20):
schedules are on there and protecting plans from cold, publication
all free to download is on gardening With skip dot.
Com all, right we'll be right. Back welcome back to
the guarden. Line all, right let's talk. Gardening seven one
(01:33:40):
three two one two five eight seven four seven one
three two one two fifty eight seventy. Four Nelson Watergardens
Nelson nursery On watergardens actually as out In, Katie, texas
and if you haven't been, there you need to. Go
it is the destination garden center out for everyone living
out towards the, west and a lot of people drive
(01:34:01):
from much further way to get there for a variety of. Reasons,
one it is the nationally it's a well known place
for water garden. Expertise there's things that they've done At
Nelson Nursing Water gardens out In katie that they basically
created the disappearing fountain for. Example you, know you get
the pots and the water spills over the side and
(01:34:22):
goes in the, Ground it circulates back and comes through.
Again they did that, there and they can set that
up for you at your. House, boy wouldn't that be
a special gift certificate for a disappearing fountain set up
and ready to. Go that'd be a nice. One they
can also give or sell you the parts to do,
it the, pump the screen that goes in the. Bottom they,
(01:34:44):
explained they've got specially designed things that they've had made
that makes us work. Best the containers. Know and if
you're doing your shoving builders yourself that way right, now
you need to get out there and get Your christmas.
Tree you need to get your points set as you
need to get Your christmas. Cactus if you don't have
room for a big Old christmas, tree why not get
one of Their norfolk islumn pines that's already. DECORATED a
(01:35:07):
little Small norfolk column pine already, decorated fits. Anywhere and believe,
me those are tough plants that just keep. Going i've
had one for. Years if you knew HOW i treat that,
plant you would have me arrested by The society for
The prevention Of cruelty To. PLANTS i mean we stick it,
OUTSIDE i watered IF i think about, it and it's
(01:35:29):
a little better than. That but that thing just keeps.
Going it really looks. Good so that's another option out.
There they got a new selection of herbs and the
vegetables in lots of those blue leaf vegetables that are
so dog gone. Healthy they have colors and you know the,
kale beautiful dino. Kale see, well it's like a bow pack.
(01:35:51):
JOY i was gonna, say bock. Choy it's a bow pack.
Choy those are so easy to. Grow within about a
month from, planting you're going to have something to eat on.
Those they're very. Fast Nelson watergardens And. Nursery all you
do is you head out To katie on it. In
go north On Katie Fort, benroad just a little bit
upstreet on the right hand side Is Nelson nursery And.
(01:36:12):
Watergardens go to the Website nelsonwatergardens dot Com nelsonwatergardens dot.
Com they're Open monday Through saturday nine to six and
On sunday from eleven am to four. PM i always
like to visit With rolf And anita out there and
the whole. Crew the whole team makes it a real
(01:36:34):
fun shopping. Experience you're listening to the garden. Line i'm your,
Host Skip, richter and we are here to talk about
things to help you have. SUCCESS i don't see a
freeze coming this, week but one is coming sometime, soon
and you need to be ready for. It i've already
(01:36:54):
purchased the little heat lamp fixtures and some, bulbs extra
bulbs and. Things i've got my extension cords and everything
ready to go out there to put a little warmth
underneath the canopy of a larger. Plant you always want
to be careful when you use heat lamps that you
don't point them directly at plant tissues like leaves or.
Bark it'll get so hot that it kills the tissues
(01:37:16):
and then you got another problem on your. Hands WHAT
i do with mine IS i shine them down at
the soil below the. Plant the soil will warm up
and the heat from the soil will rise, up and
if you have a cover to stop air, movement it
will produce. Heat it stays inside that cover and protects
your plant on a very very cold, night and depending
(01:37:39):
on how cold it's going to, get how much wind we,
have and how well you can secure that cover to the.
Ground you can do a lot to protect a plant a.
Lot the bigger the, plant the more heat you need underneath.
It but, remember on a freezing, night you don't need
that plant to be at a temperature where you would be.
(01:38:01):
Comfortable you need it to be not. Freezing, okay so
you know it's going to get the thirty six, Degrees,
well citrus tree is not going to. Freeze, now you
can have a frost at thirty six degrees actually if
it's a still night but, open cloudless, sky still. Night
but if you, will just if you'll just provide enough
(01:38:25):
warmth to keep it from dropping too. Cold some plants
can take it well below. FREEZING i mentioned. Tatsumas satsuma
oranges can take it done in the mid twenties easy
if once they're established and well cared. For but whatever
that plant can, take you just need to keep the
temperatures above that and a little heat lamp will do.
That be very very careful for fires and. THINGS i
(01:38:48):
can show you pictures in, fact if you'll go look
at the PUBLICATION i was talking about on my Website
gardening With skip dot, com the publication on protecting plants
from frosts and. FREEZES i think the article is entitled
just the season to Be. FREEZING i thought that was
cute at the. Time, anyway the publications nine pages of.
(01:39:09):
Color it was written by one of our horticulture specialists
AT a AND m with. Me we co wrote the
thing and it's very very, helpful and it's, FREE i,
mean for crying out, loud just look at. It download.
It but if you look at it explains a lot of.
Things but in there's a picture of someone who put
a heat lamp or maybe it was a faulty electrical
(01:39:31):
connection into some dead, grass dry grass around the base
of a, tree and a fire. Started and that tree
did not freeze that, NIGHT i promise you it also
did not live through the night it is now it
was now black and completely. Charred as so you want
to be careful when you're use electricity and things out.
There but there's a lot you can. Do remember this
(01:39:56):
beare soil holes absorbs heat better than so that's covered
with grass or, mulch and so pulling the multch back
and allowing the sunlight to warm the solder in the,
day then closing it off and holding that warmth. In
that is a very legit strategy for providing a little
(01:40:18):
more help and protecting your. Plants so something to think about.
There if you've got just you getting out there and
pulling all the grass away from around that tree underneath
the canopy is a step toward helping helping that plant
have success and getting through a. Night let's take a little.
Break we'll be right back with your. Calls seven, three,
two two, five, eight seven to four corn cob pie
(01:40:41):
p and a button nose and his eyes made out of.
Cold it's interesting Help christmas. Songs we we lock onto certain,
ones like That's Gene, autry by the, way Singing frosty The.
Snowman H a lot of people Sing frosty so men
and other but we have certain. Ones you, know The
(01:41:02):
christmas song has to be sung By Nat King cole
or it's not The christmas song. Anyway kind of cool
singing cowboys back in the days of the singing. Cowboys
Gene AUDREY. Rcw nurseries is it's just an outstanding place
for your holiday landscape. Decoration what DO i mean by
(01:41:25):
That i'm talking about here's an, idea why not a
burying holly plant a. Bearing they have so many different
types of hollies and just all kinds of shrubs and
trees and wonderful plants AT. Rcw but why not one
of the protests berries so in future years you actually
could bring some berries from your own plants in for some.
(01:41:45):
Decorating they have junipers of various types that are very
cool for the same thing as. Well and they even
AT rcw they even have hollies that have been sheared
into a, tall, skinny conical form so they look like
A christmas. Tree so what you could do is you
could bring that, inside you could use it as a,
tree and then you could take it back outside and
(01:42:07):
plant it right After, christmas perfect, time get it, planted.
Speaker 10 (01:42:11):
And there you.
Speaker 5 (01:42:11):
Go you get a two for one on. THAT i
think that's a great idea to do.
Speaker 1 (01:42:16):
That.
Speaker 5 (01:42:17):
Now they also have in the greenhouse area they have
got some beautiful succulent bowls that have many types of,
succulents from cacti to various, types to howarthias to other,
things and they would make an excellent. Gift they are
just gorgeous as well as INDIVIDUAL i was over there
a while back just looking at the individual little plants
(01:42:38):
succulents that they had for, sale a little tiny potching
and put them together as you. Want that would be
a nice gift or something you might want to get for. Yourself,
well anytime you go INTO rcw nurses you're gonna find friendly.
Folks they know what they're talking. About these folks have
been doing this a very long time and they got quality.
Materials that's all they sell is stuff that is high quality.
(01:42:59):
Materials at OUR rcw nurseres dot. Com that's a. Website
they're located On Tomball, parkway which Is highway two forty
nine at Belt way. Eight easy access in and. Out
if you're going to buy a larger, plant, though you
have them come out and do the planting for. You
they have from fifteen gallons up the two hundred gallons
for some of those shade. Trees now is a good
(01:43:20):
time to do, that all, Right i've told, You OR Cw,
nurseries you need to check.
Speaker 6 (01:43:26):
It.
Speaker 5 (01:43:26):
Oh by the, way they also have in, frostcloth various
links of frost. Cloth you can buy it off the
roll by the linear foot if you'd like to go
about it that. Way, now what happens when you wait
until the day before freeze to go get your freeze?
Protection it's cleared. Out everybody else has got, It so don't.
Delay go ahead and get it. Today go and get it,
(01:43:47):
now so you're ready to go and talk about the
weather coming up here in just a little. Bit let's
go now To, Hockley, texas and we're going to talk
To stacey this. Morning Hello, stacey welcome to Garden line
to get what's going. ON i got a.
Speaker 2 (01:44:03):
Question, UH i had A i had a plant AND
i didn't know the scientific name Or latin, name BUT
i don't know if you ever heard of. It it
was called, well which means smells in the. Night have
you ever heard of that.
Speaker 5 (01:44:17):
Smells in the?
Speaker 6 (01:44:18):
Night?
Speaker 5 (01:44:20):
No BUT i MEAN i could guess what?
Speaker 6 (01:44:22):
That what?
Speaker 5 (01:44:23):
That can you hear me better?
Speaker 10 (01:44:25):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:44:26):
YEAH i can hear you better about? It i'm just
what what was what was unique about this? Plant you
could only smell it at, night and you could literally
smell it a block, away ten houses, away and it
smells like it smells like that there would be a
woman walking at night with perfume on. It it's just
just a heavenly. SMELL i was just wondering if you
ever heard of.
Speaker 5 (01:44:44):
It, well there there are some. Flowers, YEAH i don't
know it bout The spanish. Name there are. Some there
are a number of flowers that do bloom at. Night
uh and and there's like a night blooming. Jasmine there
is uh oh Gosh osmanthus is one that even in
the evenings is going to have some nice fragrance as.
(01:45:06):
Well Uh, SO i don't know exactly which one that could.
Be my guess is it's night blooming. Jasmine and it's
the proper name Is cestrum nocturnum nocturnum is in nocturnal
Uh cesstrum, nocturnum night blooming. Jasmine that is a wonderful,
plant a very powerful fragrance of.
Speaker 14 (01:45:28):
Go.
Speaker 12 (01:45:28):
Ahead this one THAT i had was like six feet
tall and about six feet.
Speaker 10 (01:45:31):
Wide it was.
Speaker 5 (01:45:32):
Huge well that it could be that it could be
that size night Blooming, yeah, YEAH i. HAVEN'T i haven't heard.
THAT i haven't heard that.
Speaker 6 (01:45:46):
That Spanishly, no but, yeah, Yeah i've.
Speaker 12 (01:45:52):
Heard that, one you know What i'm talking?
Speaker 5 (01:45:54):
About probably so, yeah BUT i bet my best guess
based on the various things you've said about the plant
is that it's night night blooming. Jasmine you may do
a little online search for that and, see, yep that's.
Speaker 6 (01:46:07):
It that's.
Speaker 12 (01:46:09):
Wonderful, yeah all, right, Brother, yeah, SORRY.
Speaker 5 (01:46:17):
I bet you. COULD i bet you. Could the night

lot of other things that they can be shopping for.
Today you guys have a nice selection of what trees
and pointsettas and other kinds of. Places tell us a
little bit about kind of a holiday theme stuff.
Speaker 16 (01:53:01):
You, bet points that. Is And christmas, trees, Uh christmas
cactus are always a popular. One cyclomen cyclemen are always
hard to. Beat Bulbs amillis bulbs are probably one of
the more popular and probably in my, opinion one of
the better bulbs you're ever going to plant in your.
Life you plan on, amaryllis and you'll have that. Forever
(01:53:23):
that is something that will last and last and. Last
that is a big old brody bloom.
Speaker 12 (01:53:29):
Too it.
Speaker 16 (01:53:31):
Is it's so pretty rosemary rosemary trees and lavender trees
and lemon. Cypress those are shaped like basically baby Baby christmas,
trees and those are always. Fun nice to use that would.
Speaker 5 (01:53:45):
Be. YEAH i was gonna, say you could use that
as a tabletop decoration and then when the holiday's, over
just take it outside and. Planet you bet you got
duty out of.
Speaker 10 (01:53:56):
It, Okay, yeah that's a good a good.
Speaker 16 (01:54:00):
CHOICE i do love.
Speaker 5 (01:54:01):
Those mm. HMM i think that the gift shop looks
pretty good. Too in, there your plants and the gift
shop both the.
Speaker 16 (01:54:07):
Housepas, yeah gift shops loaded up With Chris christmas items and,
gifts so it's, uh it even smelled Like christmas in.
THERE i don't, KNOW i don't know how to that,
smell but it's mailed Like.
Speaker 10 (01:54:21):
Christmas.
Speaker 5 (01:54:21):
Yeah well that's. Good, somebody somebody with a special touch
is taken care of making sure that happens for. Sure. Yeah,
well not, NOT i. Not, yeah you guys always have
a good selection of color for the. Season and you
mentioned the cyclemen right, now BUT i know you're loaded
up and pansies and maolas and and other kinds of
(01:54:44):
cool season. Color AND i love THE i love the herb.
SHED i, say, shed it's a. Structure what do you call?
It a barn or? Structure it doesn't have roof on.
Speaker 1 (01:54:52):
It, well you have all the earth, herb herb.
Speaker 16 (01:54:56):
Hut herb hut is what we call. It it does
have a roof on, It so which is edition it?
Speaker 10 (01:55:02):
Does?
Speaker 5 (01:55:03):
Okay, well your your selection of herbs is. Great you,
know like someone, SAYS i want to plant, time and you,
go well what kind of? TIME i got a lot
of kinds Of that was true with basil this, summer
so many kinds of basil and so. On so, RIGHT
i think that'd be another another good gift to right. There,
(01:55:24):
YEAH i was out visit somebody and.
Speaker 10 (01:55:29):
Say that.
Speaker 5 (01:55:29):
AGAIN i was just, say when you go visit, Somebody
i'm sorry we got to Delay, danny and and this
just messes with. Me i'm Gonna i'm gonna shut up
and let you.
Speaker 16 (01:55:39):
TALK i was out earlier this morning and, uh the
copper canyan daisies are in full bloom and you can
just smell them across the whole.
Speaker 10 (01:55:49):
Nursery it's it's.
Speaker 16 (01:55:50):
Amazing so that's that was one thing that caught my
attention this morning WHEN i walked. Out that's a really
good plant and it's just in LIKE i, said in full,
bloom and without anybody messing with, it you could just
smell it across the whole. Nursery it was kind of
kind of.
Speaker 5 (01:56:04):
Amazing that is that is incredibly aromatic AND i like.
It it's a very unique. FRAGRANCE i call it a
cross between citrus and pine is what it smells like to.
Me but it is really nice and, fragrant and being
a short day, bloomer you get such a great fall
(01:56:25):
show out of the thing.
Speaker 16 (01:56:26):
Too, yeah it's a great. Plant the only the only
downfall is it doesn't bloom during the. Summer like you,
said it's a, short short day, bloomer so it blames
in the blooms in the spring and, fall but not
during the. Summer but it always smells, well, well it.
Speaker 5 (01:56:41):
Does it always smells, good and so that that is
an excellent one in her. Ground it attracts beneficial insects,
too by the, Way I've i've looked at beneficial little
parasitic wasps and things hoverflies that come to those. Blooms
so a lot of reasons to grow that. One we
just need to get somebody to need a compact dwarf
form of. It that's the that's the next. Step it
(01:57:06):
does get fairly. Large all, Right, WELL i appreciate. You
know you're coming on a local vendor day today At Enchanted.
Forest you need to get out, there folks and see.
This there's a long list of different local vendors that
are bringing their own special little. Things AND i promise
(01:57:27):
you're gonna find some good gift. Ideas but leave room
in your car because you're going to need to go
home with some plants too while you're out. There, Hey,
danny thanks a. LOT i appreciate you coming on taking
some time.

Points who can tell me who those ladies are singing?
With Michael boublay not The andrews. Sisters all, right, folks
welcome back To. Guardline good to have you with. Us,
look if you're trying to create the perfect soil for,
Plants Nature's Way resources has got you. Covered Nature's Way
(01:58:35):
resources has been doing this for a very long time
Since John, ferguson who has now passed a huge loss
for us in the green industry here in The Greater houston,
area since he created the place and designed the blends
and things that they. Have you, know we're talking about
roast soil and leaf mold composts and things that are
(01:58:56):
just common everyday names in the. Industry now that we're
born there At Nature's, way his Son ian and the
whole team out there continues the same tradition with the
same quality. Products whether you're looking for, mulchis whether you're
looking for soil blends like rose soil like vegetable soil
like a fruit up a, tree a citrus and fruit
(01:59:18):
tree type. Soils they've got them all there At Nature's Way.
Resources it's time now to get your mulches down unless
you want to be pulling winter weeds as we go
through winter and especially into. Spring you can avoid that
by putting a good quality mulch on the surface right,
Now Nature's Way resources Dot, Com Nature's Way resources Dot.
(01:59:38):
Com that's what you need to. Know let's head out
to the phones and we're going to visit With william this.
Morning Hey, william welcome to Garden.
Speaker 6 (01:59:47):
Line good, morning see it.
Speaker 5 (01:59:51):
Morning how are you? Today doing?
Speaker 6 (01:59:55):
Great doing great the winters?
Speaker 1 (01:59:57):
Here, yeah there you.
Speaker 5 (02:00:00):
Go, well how can we help?
Speaker 6 (02:00:01):
You, Yeah i'm having some issues with an oak leaf
holly THAT i put in the ground last. Spring the
PICTURES i sent to huge though some distortion around their.
TRUNK i had a branch to, die and AS i
cut it out and looked into the, TRUNK i could
see That i've got some issues That i'm gone there after. Area,
(02:00:25):
yeah that are also starting to yellow AND i need
to do something.
Speaker 5 (02:00:32):
Quick. Yeah so your, holly the issues on the trunk
look like some sort of a kinker in. There now
that that could have happened from some type of a
wound that occurred allowing a disease to kind of move
into the. Tissues or you know that we have a
number of different types of canker that you really can't cure.
(02:00:54):
Them it's not like you spray the spung side on
them and they go. Away the thing you have to
work at is getting the plant, vigorous which your plant
actually is in good health wise shape other than that.
Occurring and the color on some of the leaves that you.
HAVE i suspect if you follow those leaves that have
the yellowing on, them if you were to follow them,
(02:01:15):
back did they lead to that canker area or have
you tried they they?
Speaker 6 (02:01:21):
Did that one PICTURE i show that big gap is
a branch that had completely died THAT i cut. Out so,
okay sort of the issue is above that, one BUT
i took.
Speaker 5 (02:01:37):
Out, well you, know there's NOTHING i can tell.
Speaker 10 (02:01:41):
You, yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:01:45):
Go, ahead, now AS i looked into the, tree as
you just, said those branches that are starting yellow where
they attached to the, trunk it is.
Speaker 5 (02:01:55):
Distorted, Yeah, well we just don't have a you, know
kill the canker with this product type. Thing but trees
are designed to be able to wall off those areas
and to begin eventually to close back over that area
where the bark was lost due to the. Infection looking
(02:02:18):
at the leaves, THEMSELVES i see you know why you're
concerned about. IT i just think whatever makes that plant
healthier is kind of the things we need to. Do
not lacking for, water but also good. Drainage it didn't
want to be in a, swamp but at the same
time it doesn't want dry, out and making sure it has.
(02:02:39):
That providing a fertilizer for acid loving. Plants microlife has
a really good one in kind of a pink colored
bag or pinkish red colored bag that is for things
like blueberries and azaleas and camellias and. Whatnot and it
would do very good for these hollies as. Well you
could sprinkle it. Around it won't hurt the, roots but
(02:03:01):
it just it just encourages vigor in the, plant and
that's the plant's chance of trying to recover from. This
other than, THAT i just don't have a magic bullet
cure other than encouraging vigor and.
Speaker 6 (02:03:15):
Health, okay standard practice for EVERYTHING i do so appreciate.
Speaker 5 (02:03:22):
You there you, go, yeah very. Good, well hopefully it'll
it'll turn. Around there's a couple of spots where the
canker looks like it's gone almost all the way around the,
trunk and at least in the photo that's not. Good but,
hopefully hopefully there's it's going to be able to close that.
Off if, not you may be looking at doing severe
(02:03:43):
printing or replacing. It BUT i don't think we're anywhere
near talking about that really just. Yet all, right thank,
you thank you. Sir all, right you take care cackers
are they're like, Infections like if you cut your arm
(02:04:05):
and you were to get an infection in and it would,
start you, know causing, problems killing the tissues and stuff in.
There and fortunately we have like the triple antibiotic ointment
and stuff that we put on a cut and it
shuts the infection down and then you're it doesn't spread
and you can your skin can heal back. Over not
(02:04:30):
so much so with these with these plants and the
things that they deal, with just one of the deals
so that we have to. Do but just to always
remember that good plant health is the. Secret it's the
same as with, people you, know stay up too, late
don't get enough, sleep don't eat, right don't you, know
(02:04:52):
provide yourself any exercise or anything like, that and all
the things doctors tell us not to. Do you do all,
that and you're more likely to get, sick and if
you're it's more likely to take you. Down but everything
you can do to improve your health helps avoid and
make sure recovery time faster when you get. Sick, Now
i'm not, Here i'm not your mom telling you how to.
Live i'm just saying the human analogy in this, case
(02:05:14):
the plants holds pretty. Well that's why we always do
everything we can culturally to grow a plant that is
as resilient and healthy as we, can and then problems
are fewer and further between that we have to deal.
With Southwest fertilizer has been A houston lawn and garden
tradition since nineteen fifty. Five that would make this their seventieth.
(02:05:39):
Year that is. Amazing, now business doesn't stick around for
seventy years without offering a number of things for the.
Customers Number, one they're going to carry the products you.
Want they're going to be. There they're not going to be, like,
yeah we haven't gotten any of those or. WHATEVER i.
Mean you, know anytime supply line can have. Issues But
i'm just telling you when you go To Southwest, fertilizer
(02:06:01):
if it is a product THAT i would recommend you,
get it will be. There and if it is a
product that helps, plants it will be. There stuff you
never heard me talk. About that's good. Products they're not
A Guarden line sponsor, maybe but they're good. Products but
They're Southwest. Fertilizer that's how it is. There from all
the fertilizers we talk, about to pest, control disease, control weed,
(02:06:22):
control all kinds of things like that are going to be.
There quality, tools you, know do you need a fertilizer?
Spreader do you need a fireant bait spreader that you
carry in your hand walk? Around do you need a pruning?
Tool they have a ninety foot long wallow. Tools so
if you're a, gardener if you know a, GARDENER i
got a great gift. Idea go To Southwest fertilizer and
get them a quality. Tool when is going to last
(02:06:43):
them a? Lifetime that don't not cheap jump stuff that
lasts At Southwest. Fertilizer all, right corner Of bissinett And
Renwick Friendly. Service they got quality products and the selection
is like none other in the whole. Region Southwest fertilize
Dot com seven to one three six sixty six one
seven four. FOUR i in my, Outdoors i've got some
(02:07:10):
plans for an Area i'm trying To i'm trying to
develop a spot for various kinds of fruit And i've
got some citrus trees And i'm about to put a
peach tree in.
Speaker 14 (02:07:19):
It.
Speaker 5 (02:07:19):
Uh And i'm also going to do a little arbor over.
There AND i don't talk about arbors a, lot BUT i.
Should it's a wonderful. Idea if you've got an area
that you would like to have as a sitting, area
but you would like some summer, shade why not put
an arbor over. It and that could be an ornamental,
arbor you, know a vine that produces, flowers for, Example
(02:07:39):
or it could be a fruit. Arbor mine's going to
be a grape. Arbor i've got certain kinds of GRAPES
i want to, grow and so we're going to use
those as the ceiling in the arbor and then the
fruit wining down and we can enjoy. IT i kind
of think that's. COOL i like to say that the
garden Of eaton was a garden of, eaton as in,
eating a garden of, eating and that's What i'm trying
(02:08:01):
to create out there in that area of our. Landscape
we have a number of quality plants and varieties that do.
Well excuse me one, second pardon. Me if you go
To Aggie horticulture, website and it's really, simple it's An aggie.
Horticle you just do a search for, it or if
you want me to spell it, out it's a G G. I.

(02:09:06):
figure out how to prepare the, site pick the right
plant and take care of it. Properly we'll be right.
Back welcome, Back. Guardline good to have you with us this. Morning,
hey if you got a, question Well i've got an
answer seven to one three two one two five eight
(02:09:26):
seven four seven one three two one two fifty eight seventy.
Four i'd be happy to visit with you about the
kinds of questions that you might have regarding. GARDENING i
had some photos came in we could. GO i THINK
i talked about a little bit on the air the
day From ethel about some jasmine that has been acting
(02:09:48):
up for. Her what's happening is the leaves are turning
just a beautiful bright reddish orange slash burgundy color uh
and then falling off of the plant and the, coloring
the red coloring it's typical of when plants are about
to drop their. Leaves some kinds of plants have a
(02:10:10):
coloring called hint cyanin that comes to the forefront as
the as the things we're perceiving, you, okay this is
a greenish. Color as it goes, away these underlying colors
start to show up and become. Visible and that's why
people that go up to the NORTHEASTERN us to do
the what they call them leaf. Peepers they're looking at
(02:10:30):
the leaves as they, fall the yellows and the, goldens
and the oranges and the reds and the burgundies and so.
On that's what's. Happening those leaves that were green are
about to drop and do. That and so that's what's
happening to this. Jasmine that is just something that is
occasionally does happen to even evergreen types of. Plants as
(02:10:52):
far as the jasmine is, concerned you, know it could
be that something's wrong in the, soil soggy wet conditions
that prevent roots from getting, oxygen because it's just essentially
the roots are staying submerged in soggy wet. Soil that
can cause. Stresses i've got root rots and other things
that show up as. Problems certainly drought can cause plants.
(02:11:12):
Problems there can be other stresses and. Things from WHAT
i see the TWO i have two. Observations one is
there's nothing you can do about. It so that's kind
of the, okay, well we're not gonna worry about it
because there's nothing we can do. Now if this were to,
lead if this was the kind of problem that's leading
to the loss of the, plant well in this at
this point in what we, see there's nothing to do
(02:11:34):
about it. EITHER i think the plant's going to be.
OKAY i think it's going to bounce back and be.
OKAY i could be wrong about that because they don't
have a crystal ball on this, one but from What
i'm seeing, HERE i just think that this is kind
of a natural process going on and you should not
have to worry about. That i'm trying to figure out
exactly which plant that is looking at the leaves or
(02:11:57):
some variation and a little bit of a variation and lead,
form but, anyway it doesn't matter what it. Is What
i'm saying is that that kind of stress occurs that
is not something that normally we worry about on this particular.
Plant that's my best shot at it based on what we.
See so keep an eye on, it check for the soul,
(02:12:17):
moisture make sure everything's. OKAY i think it's GONNA i
think it's going to bounce. BACK i Hope i'm not
wrong about that. One sometimes things happen to plants that
are really hard to, explain and sometimes we get these
plants THAT i had a bulb come in the other,
Day what was the who sent me that? Bulb and
trying to remember it's an invasive. Bulb somebody listening right
(02:12:41):
now is going that was. Me that was me, anyway
an invasive type. Bulb And i've been trying to get
that sucker. Identified some of the people that know a
lot about specific groups and types of, Plants i've run
it by. Them i've not identified it, yet but we're
still working on. Them but that's kind of a fun,
thing you, know there's always something. New it's a. Challenge
but if it's something you don't, want, well then call.
(02:13:04):
Us we'll talk about ways of getting rid of. It
digging it up is the, simplest most chemical free way
of getting rid of a. Plant dig it. Up and
then they're those plants that trying to dig them up
is just not a practical. Answer. Uh that's edge is
when it's a heavy, infestation is a little bit that.
Way and then there's some others that torpedo grass will
(02:13:27):
be another example that, yeah you, yes, technically if you
to get all, up you get rid of, it but
the devil's in the details there and you're not going
to get it all dug. UP a little bit different. Situation,
well you're listening To Garden line and this is a
call in, show AND i realize we're in the holidays,
here but if you have a, question this is a
great time to call because it's not so busy as
(02:13:49):
it is during the spring and most of the summer
season as, Well so feel free to give me a.
Call seven one, three, two one, two five eight seven
four seven one three to fifty eight seventy. Four by the,
way our soils being largely clays with a high shrink
(02:14:10):
swell potential here in the Greater houston, area The Gulf coast, Area.
Houston it has our town name on, It houston Black,
clay because it runs along The gulf. Coast when it gets,
wet its. Swells when it gets dry at. Shrinks and
you've seen this with the sidewalks and the driveways and
especially his neighborhoods get older and time has its chance
(02:14:31):
to work on. Them you just see. These you can't
ride a bicycle down the, sidewalk BECAUSE i mean it
just like it's like growing over the top of the
rocky mountains or something going down the. Sidewalk that kind
of problem affects our home. Foundations and you've heard me
many times talk about fix my slab foundation. Repair the
website is fixmyslab dot com Now ty strict one the.

big enough crack to have to do something about or
is it changing in a way that you need to
do something about. It he understands. That call him two

they may even point you at someone else if they
(02:18:20):
if they can't get.

Time, hey welcome, Back welcome back To Guarden. Line glad
to have you with us this. Morning let's head. Out let's,
see we're gonna go out to U brendette In. Sugarland, Hey,
brendette welcome To Garden.
Speaker 7 (02:18:57):
Line hi.
Speaker 10 (02:19:01):
Been.
Speaker 5 (02:19:02):
Good how can we help.
Speaker 1 (02:19:06):
My?
Speaker 9 (02:19:06):
HOME i live on an acre and a half just
outside the city limits of Sugar, land and.
Speaker 14 (02:19:15):
It had a bunch of trees on, it some, good
some not so.
Speaker 13 (02:19:19):
Good But i'm sixty nine years old AND i love.
Speaker 9 (02:19:21):
Them at any. Rate we planted a few live oats
too close to the house and they're just now that
they've grown, up they're covering my. HOUSE i lost several
trees in the backyard due to. Burrow, OKAY i would
love to be, able you.
Speaker 7 (02:19:40):
KNOW i see these trucks with these huge trees.
Speaker 1 (02:19:42):
On them all the.
Speaker 13 (02:19:43):
Time CAN i move these oak trees to the?
Speaker 12 (02:19:47):
Backyard how big.
Speaker 5 (02:19:51):
Is the trunk on? Them can you reach all the
way around it and touch your fingers on the other.
Speaker 9 (02:19:54):
Side, oh they're much smaller than that because they've been
shaded all these other. Trees i'd say eight to twelve
inches in.
Speaker 5 (02:20:06):
Diameter, okay that's getting up near the largest size that
you can move, practically and being close to the. House
the machinery that they have to bring in to dig,
them that may be a no go on being able
to get it in there that close to the house
because a very very wide machine with spades that dig
(02:20:26):
them out of the. GROUND i don't think. SO i
don't think. So but if, you, yeah other than pruning
them and keeping them off the house and letting them
grow in the direction where they can, grow that it
would be my best suggestion for, you because you, know
at this point in time planting a new young, tree
(02:20:47):
as you know is you're not going to ever see
the benefits of. It just takes a long time the
tree and get it up to the size of. It, yeah,
yeah BUT i WOULD i THINK i would leave them.
Be if you want to call like Affordable, tree maybe
send them a picture or something like, that see what they.
THINK i believe that they cover out to your. Area
(02:21:09):
i'm pretty sure they, do but they don't move trees
to my, knowledge but they could assess, that or you,
could you, know try to find you somebody that does move.
Them But i'm how close to the, house would you,
say the tree trunk? Is how many feet?
Speaker 1 (02:21:24):
Away?
Speaker 9 (02:21:27):
Uh fifteen, feet twenty?
Speaker 1 (02:21:30):
Feet?
Speaker 5 (02:21:30):
Yeah, YEAH i think that's too. Close somebody may tell you,
otherwise BUT i AND i think those trees are so.
Big here's what's going to happen when you move. Them
they're gonna sit there for years trying to. Read there'll
be some die back on the top and the because
you're when you move, them no matter what they try to,
do you're going to lose the vast majority of the
root system and that move and so that, tree if it,
(02:21:53):
survives it is gonna it's gonna take years before it
actually starts. Growing SO i think having prune to take
care of what you, got and that's the best shot
you can. Get if you, want for posterity's, sake to
plant some o the trees out, there you, know that'd
still be a nice thing to, do certainly add to
the value of the home over, Time but that's the
best best. SHOUT i can give you there a. Brendette
(02:22:15):
i'm gonna have to. RUN i got some other callers.
Here but the.
Speaker 13 (02:22:19):
Company Is Affordable Affordable.
Speaker 5 (02:22:21):

(02:22:42):
On all, Right well let's see. Here if somebody calls real,
quick probably take one very very quick call if we
want to do. That know some plant. Food you hear
me talk about their products all the. TIME i just
don't tell you a little bit about the. Company this
is a family owned, company been in the horticulture industry
for two years. Now this is a third generation in
(02:23:05):
this family. Business three generations are involved in this family.
Business and if you, ever every TIME i go to
the trade, shows you, know for the nursery, Industry dean
will be there and these guys, kids these guys' grandkids
giving out samples and stuff like. That this is a family.
Operation their products are professional, Great they're made for. Homeowners
they're made for people that grow trees and. Plants. Commercially
(02:23:27):
they're made for landscapers who can take care of, landscapes
and these all these groups all know them and use.
Them this is a family owned and operated business that
has been out there in The belleville, area which is
where all the products are made at the. Warehouse so
it's a it's a Local Southeast texas company here making
these horticulture. Fertilizers that's what they specialize. In they only
(02:23:49):
use the highest grade ingredients and they use the most
advanced in the. Technologies you, know you want to put
on a product and have it not just all be
available at, once but gradually available over. Time Sometimes i'll
put therefore five different kinds of, nitrogen for, example in
a plant product to give that gradual release over. Time
(02:24:09):
they're quality, made quality. Products dean and his family have
been doing, this LIKE i, said for a very very long.
Time So nelson plant, food you're gonna find him by
the bag in, Places you're going to find him by the,
jar the clear plastic jar with the big. Lid there's
about a dozen places where you can take those jars
in and get them. Refilled they just pull a lever
(02:24:32):
like you're buying peanuts at the grocery, store you, know
to refill the low bag take them that. WAY a
number of places around town now have, That so that's
that is ecologically a good. Idea you're not putting plastic
in the. Landscape and it's also an, affordable very very
cost effective way to buy. Products you're not buying a
whole new container to throw. Away nelson plant food. Products
(02:24:55):

line which is the things for your. Lawn they've got
The Neuture star, line which is things for you fell
