Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, it's going to be all about district lines in
Texas and in a few other states, as far as
maybe determining the majority in the twenty In the Congress.
With the twenty twenty six mid term elections coming, six
Republican congressional candidates are filing an amikas brief with the
US Supreme Court arguing in favor of the emergency application
for a stay of the order that would force the
(00:21):
primaries to be conducted under the twenty twenty one map.
One of those candidates is Alex Mieler, who joins US
now a candidate in District nine. Alex, good morning, Thank you, Bob.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
I appreciate you having me on.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
I appreciate you coming on. Tell us a little bit
about the brief.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
What do we say so one of the main points
why we're working with the Dylan Law Group, which used
to be run by Harmeet Dillon within dj now in
just highlighting just the mass voter confusion that there is
this percell principle and we are filing actually closes soon
(00:57):
December eighth, So campaigns are well under way. Hundreds of
thousands of dollars have been spent, and it's not just
the impact to the candidate.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
It's more voter confusion. And just on this.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Station been running radio ads which have a reach of
four hundred thousand adults per week, and so at the
last minute, you know, an activist judge could potentially be
dramatically changing the lines, which the end state is we
could be having a judge decide who, in all practicality,
is going to control the House. As your show just
alluded to, margins are extremely tight. California's map is not
(01:33):
in question right now, so it looks like they'll be
able to add five seats. And if you take away
Texas's ability, which the legislature does have that ability to
redraw lines based on partisan preference. And that's what we're
trying to demonstrate that it's about whether Trump's going to
pass is America first agenda for a couple of years,
(01:55):
which obviously myself and a lot of candidates are very
eager to help be a part of, or are we
going to see America people suffer two years of impeachment,
you know, kind of economy flagging.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Along, so states couldn't be higher and to.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
The only positive is to get a ruling from the
Supreme Court, hopefully by a week's end early next week
at the latest.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
It's best intel.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Just given the December eight deadline for filing to close.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Are you able, Alex to glean anything from the fact
that Justice Alito gave that that emergency stay on Friday
or does that kind of not really have anything to
do with it.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
I think that at least on you know, my based
opinion just shows how high a priority that Supreme Court
understands the implications of this ruling.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
The theory is very sound.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
You know that you are able to redraw based on
partisan preference, and I think, uh, just in fact this
was so late is another strong point in our favor,
and that's really what the amicus brief try to highlight
is these are not campaigns that.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Just started a couple of days.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
There's been very extensive voter contact outreach, uh, getting everyone
away and comfortable.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
With what these new lines are. So just the uh
to be frank, I think even just the disruption at
this point all points in favor to letting the legislature
keep there.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
You know, constitutional mandate and pass the map. So I
feel very good about it. But there's always some legal risk,
but I think it would be it would catch us
all pretty off guard if the Supreme Court cited uh,
what was that lower court just the pretty uh scathing descent.
Appreciate uh Judge Smith highlighting some of those issues. And
(03:44):
you know, wouldn't have gotten in this race without having
had a lot of found legal scholars look at the uh,
the justification for redrawing, uh, and it felt very good
about that. And so this is really now, you know,
out of our hands. But it just seems to me
such a stretch to go and make a decision that
(04:04):
would very likely decide who controls the House.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Well, well, that's exactly what it is. Judicial activism does
need to be restrained. We will certainly say fingers crossed
and prayers up that the Supreme Court does give a
favorable ruling here and that we do indeed have maps
that reflect the will of the voters of the state
of Texas. Alex Meeler, Congressional candidate District nine, thank you
(04:31):
for coming on. We appreciate it, and thanks for following
that brief. Hopefully we will get that favorable ruling and
be able to do what is right by the people
of Texas. Thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Thank you, Bob
