(00:24):
knew about every one of those autopen signings. Obama tells
his fellow Democrats to stop whining and coming up at
five oh eight, it's time to fix Stephen F.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Austin and it won't be cheap. Details in the minutes ahead.
You're in Houston's Morning.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
You the clinic.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Well, that doesn't seem to be the problem, ariest games problem.
That's not his biggest problem. We'll get we'll get to
that in about ten minutes or so.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
First, yeah, I'm sorry. Here's the big introduction. Here's that much.
We're looking at to eighty woe, Stephen, don't look at all.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
We're looking at northbound coming up from Lake Jackson and
two eighty eights and nice shapes. So if you're going
southbound you're rich because you work at Dow. You're looking
good this way. I will call any into town twenty

the high temperature right about ninety two. We might get
a couple of dry days or tomorrow. And for Thursday.
We're keeping an eye on the Gulf though, because there's
a system down there that can bring a lot of
rain and other problems to parts of the Southeast, hopefully
not to Texas. More on that coming up with the
(01:35):
Weather Channel and Terry Smith in about nine minutes. Right
now seventy six at your officials, Severre Weather Station News
Radio seven forty KTRH. It's time down for the news.
Here's Cliff Sanders.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
Thank you, Jimmy, good morning. You ever won our top
story at five oh one.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
The Yodo penn I think is maybe one of the
biggest scandals that we've had it fifty two one hundred years.
This is a tremendous scandal.
Speaker 5 (01:58):
President Trump at the House yesterday, but former President Joe Biden,
in an interview with the liberal New York Times, claims
that he quote consciously made the decisions on who to
pardon with that auto pen during.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
His last days in office.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
Elsewhere, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul says he's going to reissue
is criminal referral of doctor Anthony Fauci to the Justice Department.
Of course, Vauci got a pardon from that Biden auto pen.
And there's more bad news for the left. Despite the
mainstream media narrative, Democrats keep finding new ways to be
(02:33):
less popular than they already were.
Speaker 7 (02:36):
A new poll from a Democrat superPAC finds voters perceived
the party as woke, weak, and out of touch. Larry Ward,
political analyst and charity Constitutional Rights Pack, says the DEM's
biggest problem is male voters.
Speaker 8 (02:47):
What they actually said is they were looking to learn
how to talk to men without it appearing like they
hate them. And that's the problem, because you can really
appeal to a constituency that you despise.
Speaker 7 (02:59):
The poll finds Democrats support among Hispanic men has fallen
below thirty five percent. Corey Jolson, who's Radio seven forty
KTR eighty.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
Even former President Barack Obama is lashing out at the left,
telling the audience at a fundraiser that the party needs
to wait for it tough en up. He also called
for quote less whining. It's now five oh three. The
President's Big Beautiful Bill is being hailed as the biggest
Conservative win in decades. Rice's John Diamond worked on the
(03:28):
package and says it's going to change taxes in the
long run.
Speaker 9 (03:31):
In terms of reform, shifting more towards a consumption tax
or a cash flow tax has been a goal for
some time, and definitely things like expensing an R and
D deductions move you closer to that goal.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
President Trump has said he wants to eliminate the income
tax for those making under one hundred and fifty thousand
dollars a year. He also suggested last year that he
could replace taxes with tariffs, and he's threatening one hundred
percent terriffs on Russia if there's no peace deal with
Ukraine in the next fifty days.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
It's now five oh four.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
Jimmy mentioned this. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a
system in the Gulf with a forty percent chance of
tropical development over the next seven days. We'll have more
with Terry Smith of the Weather Channel in a few
minutes here on Houston's Morning News. The death toll in
the Hill Country flooding is up to at least one
hundred and thirty two, with around one hundred people still missing.
(04:28):
Governor Greg gap Had wants improvements in FEMA's response and
says the agency became bloated under the Biden administration.
Speaker 10 (04:36):
One thing I think most of say governors, most sad
officials as well as the federal government could agree upon,
and that is we needed improvements in FEMA and it
needed to be what I.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Call right sized.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
Official say, recovery efforts could take months. The Texas Legislature
will address the flood in next week's special session, and
many want the installation of flood sirens, but that might
not be enough.
Speaker 11 (05:03):
There are concerns that sirens alone could just end up
making situations worse.
Speaker 12 (05:07):
Let's say you have the siren and you're trying to
combat tornadoes and floods and everything else. By making this
audible tone, I think you're adding to that confusion.
Speaker 11 (05:14):
Alerts expert Eddie Bertola says state leaders should look at
the entire emergency alert toolbox for solutions.
Speaker 12 (05:20):
Which specific tool do I need or do I need
to use two? It is a difficult field because the
tools are changing, but there are specific tools for specific scenarios.
Speaker 11 (05:29):
He says, things like AM radios might be better because
they can relate detailed information in harsh conditions.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Ethan Buchanan News Radio seven forty KTRH, Thank you, Ethan.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
Despite requests from the state GOP to hold off, President
Trump has endorsed several members of the legislature, including Speaker
Dust and Burrows, possibly derailing plans by the grassroots bace
by the grassroots base, I should say it's a primary them.
Speaker 13 (05:52):
There's always a chance for people becoming opponents of incumbers.
But I think the Trump endorsement and that it's not
as good as it gets and publican primaries, he's the
gold standard and if you have that endorsement, good luck
trying to beat me.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
Political consultant Bill Miller says some of these endorsements could
have been made at the request of the political insiders
around Trump.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Five oh six.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
Looking at your money, Gasoline prices tick down again overnight
across Houston to two seventy three a gallon. Oil futures
are trading at about sixty seven dollars a barrel this morning.
According to new polling, the majority of homeowners are reluctant
to either buy or sell. Five years after the COVID
housing boom. There are fewer listings and slower turnover in
(06:37):
Texas these days.
Speaker 14 (06:38):
Over the past couple years, there's been on soon is
the lock in effect? Americans just don't want to sell
their homes if it means giving up their three percent
mortgage and trading for a mortgage at like six and
a half or seven.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Percent bank rates.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
Jeff Ostrowski says unless interest rates drop significantly, don't expect
things to change. Five oh seven. Baseball's All Star Game
is tonight. Jeremy Panya, Hunter Brown parides of the Astros
will not play closer Josh Hater could see action.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
The Astros are off until Friday.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
We devastated the Iranian nuclear.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Program on news Radio seven KTRH.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
I've await our time here in Houston's morning news. A
right there's something iconic on two eighty eight. If you
drive on to eighty eight, you pass it. I mean,
if you're coming from the beach and you're headed towards Houston,
you pass it. And when you pass it, and you
may have heard Skymike make some you know, thinly veiled
jokes about the Stephen F. Austin statue because you're looking
(07:50):
at it from a side angle, and there's something that
sort of stands out about the statue. And I'm certainly
we're not the only ones who have noticed this. I'm
I'm sure you've knows this as well. One of the
things that hasn't stood out about the statue is the condition.
Because from the expressway it looks fine. It looks fine,
(08:11):
you would not forguess that there's damage to it. But
there is quite a bit of damage to it that
was mainly done by a hurricane Beryl, and it needs repair.
And in order to repair it, they're going to have
to dismantle it, take it apart piece by piece that's
the way it was assembled in sections, and do the
(08:32):
repair work. And they're not quite sure yet how much
is going to cost. The state has set aside seven
hundred and fifty thousand dollars in state funding in order
to be able to fix Stephen F.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
Austin.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
But they don't know if that's going to be enough,
and they probably won't know until they start working on
it and see what all is wrong with it. No
timetabled yet on when they're going to begin the project,
but I would guess it's going to take a while,
so there's going to be a period of time where
Steven F. Austin will not be by the road side
of two eighty eight. Well, they work on fixing the problems.
Five ten tip for traffic and weather together.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
There's no way that artist didn't do that on purpose too.
I mean, if you if you.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
Go southbound, it's if you're coming southbound toward Lake Jackson,
you see, you know, a man and his charter overseeing
the new colony. But if you're going northbound, Terry cover
your ears. If you're going northbound, it's a very happy
morning in Bressoria County. I'm just saying, let's go, no what,
let's check out to eighty eight one.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
We're this way.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
If you're working at Dow, you're having an easy drive
in southbound northbound from beautiful Angleton, Texas. They're not so
beautiful roadwork and roach sharing, which, by the way, I
need an update on that laneage there.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
I know it's there. I'm not sure exactly what they're blocking,
so and.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
I can't wait to see the iHeartRadio talkbacks this morning.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
But coming up from Iowa Colony, we look good.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Twenty seven minutes now into downtown Golf Freeway looks good
so far. We still see those phantom closures they show
after the causeway.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Every morning on the onlines.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
I don't know why, but it looks to me like
it's wide open causeway up up we can see past
the EMMITTT. Lowry and the League City and now is
thirty one minutes north Freeway.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
It's the other Andrew from Spring.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
There's no whos Fankree, Oh on.
Speaker 16 (10:14):
The North Freeway southbound between the Grand Parkway and Way eight.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
See no news is also news in the traffic business.
I'm skylike in the USA RV Resorts dot Com traffic center.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
By the way, Care to guess how tall Stephen F.
Austin is that statue.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
He's got to be at least twice my height, a.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Little more than thy feet seventy six feet Oh my wow,
seventy six foot tall statue. Now what we need to
figure out is how long that oh lo oh, never mind,
Terry is here, cover your earstage, she's she's ready to
fill us in on the forecast. But I think we
need to start with the off the coast of Florida
again and get a little update here, because in typical fashion,
(10:51):
it seems like every day we're getting another five to
ten percent chance, right this developing into something We're up
to what forty percent chance?
Speaker 17 (10:57):
Now we're up to a forty chance of this becoming
a tropical depression or something greater. Not likely, but let's
see between now and Monday, So in the next seven days.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Right now, it's on the east coast of Florida, so.
Speaker 17 (11:13):
We've got time to watch it and kind of go, hmmm,
it's making its way across Florida. The hurricane hunters are
likely to go out there tomorrow and kind of check
it out, see how well organized it is. But if
it gets over the open waters, it may become a
little bit better organized. So we're watching it, and it's
(11:34):
moving westward, folks, So anybody along the Gulf coast is
going to get a lot of rain from this from
Florida into Louisiana certainly, and I think we're going to
feel some of that impacts toward the end of the week.
As far as rain goes, today, we're not going to
get a lot, only a thirty percent chance of thundershowers
developing later on this afternoon. Our temperature is load to
mid nineties. Tomorrow, Thursday, no rain. Some places will be
(11:57):
in the upper nineties. Everybody's in the nineties tomorrow and
Thursday when we start to get a little more heat.
And then Friday and Saturday we have a fifty percent
chance of showers and thunderstorms primarily because the influence of
that moisture from whatever is sitting over Florida today.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Right now, seventy six at your official severe weather station,
News Radio seven forty KTRH. It's Houston's Morning News, brought
to you byen New South Windows Solutions. Now back to
Jimmy Barrett had the Houston Morning News team all the
info you need to take on the day. So, how
do you take on a heckler? How do you take
on a bully? I guess you'd give them a dose
(12:35):
of their own medicine. At least that seems to be
what Tom Holman likes to do. He was at Turning Point,
USA and there was a guy there in a Trump hat.
I think the trump hat maybe was just a disguise
who asked Tom Homan a question about being an MS
thirteen gang member, which of course caused Tom Homan to
go off on this guy. I'll share the audio with you.
(12:57):
It's funny. I'll share the audio with you. Next, first though,
traffic and weather together. We're checking out the drive again
to Skymike.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
All right, vizers, let's check out your Katie Freeway. Coming
in from Katie Mills Mall. We're looking at just twenty
six minutes into the President's heads.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
This is a good time to jump on the Katie Freeway.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Most of the people in front of you on the
West Park are pretty smart.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Grant Parkway into the Southwest Freeway. We're flying in posted speeds.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Look at that Southwest Freeway now outbound at the Breslis River.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
This is a long term project.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
We're doing the lane shift over the bridge that's outbound inbound.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
You don't even know it's there. While we're on the
Southwest tip line.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Dude, Hey, Mike, Highway six north bound between ninety and
Voss Road.
Speaker 3 (13:36):

Speaker 3 (14:40):
It happens here?
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Why you radio seven forty KTRHE five twenty.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Two now here in Houston's morning news. So Tom Holman,
who of course is the borders are now, was speaking
at Turning Point, USA over the weekend, I think it
was over the weekend, and a heckler stands up and
(15:08):
it starts giving him a hard time. So you know,
there's one or two things you can do with the heckler.
I guess you can either ignore the heckler or you
can respond in some way that you deem appropriate. Well,
Tom Homan decided he was going to respond in a
way that he deemed appropriate. Let's take a listen. Shall
we wait right?
Speaker 3 (15:27):
Three or five years the barney.
Speaker 6 (15:30):
Are you an ns thirteam members?
Speaker 12 (15:34):
Hey, hey, that's okay, that's okay here Maria there, your
mourns like this are the country?
Speaker 15 (15:43):
This guy, this guy one.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Norse, We like the surface nation.
Speaker 12 (15:47):
This guy ain't got the balls to be a nice officer.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Do you ever got the balls to be a born chorger.
Speaker 13 (15:53):
This guy who lives in his mother's basement, get out
of here, your loser.
Speaker 19 (15:57):
There's a word on him, out of pa, which is head.
Phonetically describes a word describes the sound something makes, like oink.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Or meow or roar.
Speaker 19 (16:10):
You hear them off and on the view, we need
to we need to invent a word for a person
who physically resembles his occupation.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
I think it's called a Homan because like Homan's.
Speaker 19 (16:22):
Face is like the opposite opposite of a welcome Matt.
You see that face and you're going, I'm not sticking
around in this country. He is a walking rock slide.
And it goes back to how Trump uses the message
and not the muscle to incentivize self deportation.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
When you look at.
Speaker 19 (16:39):
Wasserman Schultz, she's doing the work by amplifying the conditions
of Alligator Alcatraz. She's saying, oh my god, this sucks,
and we're going, thank you, Debbie, that's the message we
need to get out because like.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
The images of the roundups, Alligator Alcatraz.
Speaker 19 (16:58):
Homan himself, it incentivizes it's people not to wait around.
Biden incentivized massive deportation and now we're doing the opposite.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
I was thinking about this weekend because I do a
lot of thinking.
Speaker 9 (17:09):
Now.
Speaker 19 (17:10):
Remember how for the left it was always about exploitation,
like capitalism exploits the poor. That was always a thing.
Now suddenly exploitation is they're.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Doing the jobs we don't want to do, you know.
And it's like, well, and because they're illegal.
Speaker 19 (17:27):
You get the added benefit that the fact that they're
doing it cheaply, so it's no longer exploitation. It's that, Wow,
they're just here for us, doing cheap work. And it's like,
you know, you can use that argument for sex trafficking,
like they are doing this work because they have to survive.
They're doing the jobs cheaply that nobody else would want
to do. That describes people working at potform farms and
(17:51):
doing sex work in queens. So whenever you say that
you know, these people just want to earn the living,
remember that you're directly benefiting all people who exploit them,
which is why you need legal immigration.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
There you go, that's a great argument. It really is.
I wonderful. I wonder if the leftist prepare for the argument.
By the way, I'll try to grab her comments and
share them with you too, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who Gutfeld
there referred to evidently toward Alligator Alley and made some
comments about the cages and the facility, which, by the way,
(18:25):
is a very clean facility, but it does look like
a jail. They are cages there to keep people incarcerated.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
There.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
There's common toilets like you would find in a jail
or in a prison cell. Does anybody have a problem
with that? Who are the people we're sending n Alligator Alley?
These are people who are murderers, child predators, have broken
the law. Should be well they, in addition to the
(18:57):
fact that they're here illegally have broken the law. Is
that where they should be in jail. Five twenty six,
It's time to take a look at your money, as
we say good morning to Jeff Bellinger.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
And Jimmy good morning to you.
Speaker 20 (19:10):
Economists think the government's latest reading on retail inflation will
reflect the impact of new tariffs. We have a couple
of developments that suggest tariffs could increase food inflation. The
US has withdrawn from a long standing tomato trade deal
with Mexico. The Commerce Department intends to go ahead with
a seventeen percent tariff on Mexican tomatoes and orange juice.
(19:32):
Futures hit a four month high in New York yesterday
on worries about President Trump's threat of a fifty percent
tariff on Brazilian products. Brazil is the top supplier of
orange juice to the US. I'm Jeff Bellinger, Bloomberg Business

Speaker 4 (20:33):
Kind of slinky like most of our freeways. I'm wondering
what weather is going to affect us with today. But
I do have this one deal in sugar Land. What
a thorn in your side. If you're trying to catch
a plane at Sugarland Airport, it's going to be Highway

Speaker 3 (21:23):
Thank you very much. Jimmy. It's five thirty one on KGRH.
Top story.
Speaker 22 (21:27):
There are great men and women who put on that
uniform every day and deserve to go home safely to
their families at night. And the Democrats who are allowing
this violence to take place against them should be ashamed
of themselves well.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
Now, spokesperson Caroline Levit DHS says, and an ICE employee
was injured after being docked by a Democrat California congressman,
the employee requiring emergency medical attention. We're also finding out
more about the thirteen hundred and sixty one illegal aliens
arrested in Houston last month. One of them was charged
(21:59):
with hijacket a plane that was traveling from Cuba to
Key West.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Meantime, the Sorrows Family is added again.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
They are now linked to a lawsuit to stop President
Trump from dismantling Temporary protected status.
Speaker 23 (22:13):
They've granted people TPS due to disasters, but they left
the door open for too long.
Speaker 24 (22:18):
They've allowed anyone who arrived illegally ever since that time
to get TPS.
Speaker 23 (22:24):
Also, Jessica Vaughan of the Center for Immigration Studies says
some have been here for decades with no repercussions, but
the cat's already out of the bag with no real solutions.
Speaker 24 (22:34):
At this point, I'm not sure that the program can
really be reformed.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
I think that it needs to be ended.
Speaker 23 (22:40):
She says, we can use other methods instead of granting
the status for years.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Andre Perard News Radio seven forty e KT al right,
it is now five point thirty three.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
The US Supreme Court gives the Trump administration the green
light to move ahead with dismantling the Department of Education.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz says, it's about getting the bureaucrats
out of education.
Speaker 25 (23:01):
We support students, we support teachers, we support schools, but
we don't need teacher union bosses and bureaucrats of the
Department of Education putting red tape and strangling innovation in schools.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
Cruise with KTRHS Sean Hannity. The National Education Agency recently
held their annual convention and of course took time to
pass a measure calling the president a fascist.
Speaker 26 (23:25):
And in that resolution they misspelled the word fascism. You
almost can't make this stuff up. The union that's supposedly
representing a bunch of educators can't even spell fascism correctly.
Speaker 5 (23:36):
Corey DeAngelis with the American Culture Projects as the union
spend too much time focusing on politics and not enough
time on actually teaching. Five point thirty four of the
Kirk County Commissioner's Court met for the first time since
the disaster on July fourth, with one of the commissioners
expressing outreach at having his life threatened.
Speaker 27 (23:56):
This sad to see the evil that out there as
well in the midst of all this beauty.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
You know I've been getting death threats. Can you imagine?
Speaker 28 (24:07):
Death?
Speaker 5 (24:07):
Jol is up to at least one hundred and thirty
two and at least one hundred people are still missing.
We now know that Camp Mystic was allowed by FEMA
to expand. This is going all the way back to
the Obama years, despite the fact that the camp was
in flash flood alley.
Speaker 29 (24:22):
Under the law, property owners have their right to appeal
seema's official floodmap.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
Syracuse Professor Sarah Prailey says that FEMA removed dozens of
the camp buildings from the one hundred year flood map
before their expansion.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Five point thirty five.
Speaker 5 (24:38):
The state legislature will deal with the flood in next
week's special session. One item that has already crossed off
their to do list is regulating AI.
Speaker 30 (24:47):
Texas lawmakers passed a package of bills that paved the
way for AI innovation while at the same time cracks
down on things like deep fake photos.
Speaker 31 (24:56):
This is why we continue to lead and innovate in
outpaced states like California.
Speaker 30 (25:00):
Dun Moyer with the Texas Public Policy Foundation praised one
bill signed by the governor that allows for lawsuits over
things like fake sexually explicit images. Another law in Texas
requires healthcare providers to say if they use AI as
part of a patient's treatment. I'm Beth Myers, News Radio
seven forty KTRI.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
Thank you, Beth.
Speaker 5 (25:19):
Democratic activists are trying to gain a foothold in the
business world with ESG, but for now they're being blocked
here in Texas. Nearly passed legislation slaps tough requirements on
those advising groups like pension funds and endowments.
Speaker 32 (25:34):
In recent years, proxy advisory firms have become increasingly political
and with a hard left bent.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
State Senator Brian u says these advisors must now disclose
when their advice is politically motivated. Five point thirty six.
Here's a scary thought. AI could decide whether or not
you get a raise, or whether or not you get
that job.
Speaker 28 (25:56):
And it begins with a lot of companies. When you
submit your resume review.
Speaker 33 (26:01):
It is reviewed by an AI algorithm, not a live person,
and the algorithm is only as good as the people
that set up the algorithm.
Speaker 28 (26:11):
And as this develops, Texas attorney Andy Trucevic says, a
humans versus computer's adversarial relationship will develop, leading to a
revival of trade unions. Mike Shiloh News Radio seven forty KTR.

And four astros have been selected to the All Star
Game tonight, but only one closer, Josh Hater, could see

Speaker 3 (26:30):
The game is tonight in Atlanta.
Speaker 5 (26:33):
I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's News whether in trafficstation News
Radio seven forty KTRH.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
This is Houston's Morning News with Jimmy Barrett.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
I like the Cracker Barrel.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Love me some Coom pancakes. I might come on. That's
my go to it day, Cracker Barrel's Pocom pancakes.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
If I go.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
If I'm going to Cracker Barrel, that's what I'm getting.
Of course, I could say that about any place I
go to breakfast. I have a go to it that
I get at that particular place. So I see stories
like this and with a bit of a jawn decide
because I don't think most restaurants, especially once they've been
around for a long long time, you know, doing the
same thing with the same basic formula, are usually very
(27:18):
successful at change. Cracker Barrel, I don't know if it's
because they have a new CEO. Maybe that's what's going
on here. If sales are often enough where they feel
like a change is absolutely necessary. But Cracker Barrel wants
to quote unquote move the brand forward. They claim the
brand is no longer relevant, therefore they want to do
(27:42):
things to appeal to new customers. Now you know Cracker Barrel, right,
I mean, if they're all exactly the same, well at
least they were until they started changing things around. You
walk in and there's a gift shop, and there's all
kinds of things there that you would think that grandma
would be buying for a grandchild. So I guess you
could maybe have different things available for shopping that appeal
(28:03):
to a little bit of a younger crowd, or maybe
deemphasize the gift store. I don't know what kind of
money they make from the gift gift store. I'm guessing
you know, the original plan was this, make this like
an old country store, and you know they'll be you
can buy stuff, and you can buy candy, and you
can buy clothing, and you can buy all these other things,
and and you can look at this stuff while you're
waiting to get seated or when you come out, before
(28:24):
you leave.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
And then you go in. It's very rustic.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
And they got a lot of antique stuff hanging up
on the walls, you know, in the in the wait staff,
whereas you know, old timey looking outfits, and and and
the food is just you know, Southern comfort food, which
is why you go. So I guess my question is,
how would you modernize Cracker Barrel without destroying Cracker Barrel?
Can it be done? Or are you better off leaving
(28:49):
it alone? You can try and gainst some new menu items.
I don't know how they do for dinner. I think
of Cracker Barrels a breakfast place. I only go there
for breakfast. I don't go there for dinner. I know
there are people who do. But if you were running
Cracker Barrel, what would you do to try to improve
it to appeal to a younger crowd. Let's pick your
brains here this morning and see if they're on the
right track. You go to the iHeartRadio i'b KTRH make
(29:13):
us number one intero preset. Please hit the talk back
button you get up to thirty seconds. First name where
you're calling from, and what you would do to try
to modernize Cracker Barrel or would you refuse to modernize it?
In other words, there's nothing wrong with cracker Barrel. Leave
it alone. You could just go to the iHeart Radio
up and respond there five forty time for traffic and
weather together too. Sky Mike is here.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
That would be like woking up the Waltons, you know, like,
oh oh, Grandpa's now Antifa and John Boys transgender now,
I mean stupid. Just leave Cracker Barrel alone. Old people
are not extinct. We're here, all right.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
Let's go.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
We're getting Grand Parkway here, Terry, Let's check out some
big shots here. You know, knew Kainey used to be
this little country town with people in overalls, But man,
it's got all fancy now, especially right around Valley Ranch.
Coming over this way, I head an over through forty
five past the Woodlands exits. Looks good, so far. I
always want you to be very careful. That's Sanja Cento
(30:06):
river Bridge. For some reason, right between there and Burnham Woods.
We always get some kind of hobnobbery watch out there. Also,
they've got the roadwork at Champion forst going the other
way if you go on eastbound. But if you're somebody's
butler and Tom Ball this morning, you're having easy right.
Ind Sure, it's nice to have that North Belt all
fixed up, all Dean Westfield cleared, that roadwork, and Imperial
Valley that's done too.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
We look good.

on a blob in Florida and just ring in general
for us, looks like we're go get a couple of
days off from the ring.
Speaker 17 (30:58):
Yeah, we're not going to get much rain today, and
it looks dry tomorrow and Thursday. But it is as
that blob over Florida, as you so affectionately called it,
as it makes its way into the golf and heads
our direction, we will likely see an increase.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
In our rain chances by the end of the week.
Speaker 17 (31:18):
But today only a thirty percent chance of some afternoon thundershowers,
and temperatures load a bit nineties.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
Now.
Speaker 17 (31:24):
Tomorrow and Thursday, there's no rain and it's all hot,
generally in the nineties. We've got some upper nineties tomorrow,
but everybody's in the nineties Tomorrow and Thursday. Fifty percent
chance at thundershowers. Friday and Saturday. We're going to cool
it off just a little bit closer to ninety both days.
And stay with us here for those updates on what
happens with Jimmy's blob, because the National Hurricane Center says

Need to know for the day ahead.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
This is Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New
South Windows Solutions.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
So every now and again you hear me talk about
George Sorows and what an evil sob I think he is,
and oh I say that I love. Evidently his network
is linked to a lawsuit now that's trying to stop
President Trump from ending TPS temporary, the temporary amnesty program
that began. I'm trying to remember. I think it was
during the Clinton administration.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
It began.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
It was supposed to be temporary, you know, Temporary Protected
status is what TPS stands for, only it's never been temporary,
and more countries have been added to it by different administrations.
President Trump wants to end it, and there's a lawsuit
now to try to prevent that from happening. In George
Soros and his money and Alex Soros's son and his
money are behind it. More on that story coming up next. First,
(32:54):
traffic and weather together. Here's guy Mike.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
All right, we're doing Highway six here. Tammy from Channel
thirteen about to launch their chopper and she's like well,
this guy, Mike, what's going on this morning? I'm like,
you know what, why don't you hop over to sugar
Land Airport and look at that nasty roadwork on Highway
six between ninety and Boss Road. If you're trying to
fly out of there, give yourself some extra time.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
Actually, most of our freeways rocked this morning.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
Well, there's some ship channel bridges at six o'clock Skymike

Speaker 3 (34:18):
Well, TPS is pretty good.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
De facto amnesty five fifty three is that time here
in Houston's boring News. We are joined by Jessica Vaughn,
who's with us this morning from the Center for Immigration Studies.
Before we get into the whole George Sorow's connection here,
let's talk a little bit about TPS. I think it
was right right the Clinton administration is what began Temporary
Protective Status.
Speaker 34 (34:41):
Good morning. Yes, that is right in nineteen ninety eight,
because there was a hurricane and some destruction in Honduras,
and so Congress created this program TPS to allow the
president to give anyone in the country who could not
(35:03):
go back, whose status was expiring, you know, on a
visa or who was in the country illegally, protection from
deportation and a work permit. And the status had to
be renewed every eighteen months. Well that was twenty five
years ago or so more than that, and those people
are still here. And not only that, they've added many
(35:25):
countries and renewed it constantly for these countries to the
point where we now have more than half a million people,
most of whom were here illegally, who've been allowed to
stay and work here all this time. And President Trump
has said, look, this is, you know, long past the
purpose of this program. It's time for people to take
(35:48):
the savings that they've accumulated over these years, the education
they've gotten here courtesy of taxpayers, and go back to
your home country because you know, it's been a long
time since that hurricane.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Yeah, well, if it makes perfect sense, of course you're
going to have the George Sorows and Alex Sorosis of
the world. We're going to fight against this. Do you
think this ultimately ends up in front of the US Supreme.
Speaker 34 (36:09):
Court, Probably because the groups, like the Soros funded groups,
will never give up trying to protect these folks that
they want to be able to stay here. But I
think it's pretty clear. The law is clear. Congress gave
the President this authority to give TPS and to take
(36:32):
it away, and so I think this is just a
delay tactic on their part and they're not going to succeed.
But it's it's something that really, I mean, I really
don't think we even need TPS anymore. There are other
ways that we can address problems in these other countries.
But Congress clearly intended that this would not be an amnesty.
(36:55):
It says in the law that there is no path
to a Green Carter citizenship for people with GPS. So
it's time to end the program and have our immigration
laws actually mean something.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
Yeah, makes perfect sense to me. Thanks as always, Jessica,
I appreciate it, Jessica Vaughne, Center for Immigration Studies. It's
five poin fifty six.

Speaker 5 (38:54):
It is six oh one on KTRH ark top story.
You're not the only ones who have had it with
today's Democrats. Former President and Democrat Barack Obama has too,
and apparently he let them have it.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
During a recent fundraiser, he told donors.
Speaker 35 (39:09):
This over the weekend quote, I think it's going to
require a little bit less naval gazing and a little
less whining and being in fetal positions, and it's going
to require Democrats to just toughen up.
Speaker 36 (39:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (39:23):
That transcript obtained by CNN. Democrats still haven't found the
bottom when it comes to their approval ratings. A new
poll from a Democrat super pack shows that the party
support among Hispanic men is below thirty five percent. Political
analyst and Constitutional Rights Pack chair Larry Ward predicts it's
only going to get worse.
Speaker 8 (39:44):
Angry white female liberals, the awfuls. That is the constituency
that runs a Democratic party. It is a power base.
It's the one who funds them. That's the one constituency
Democrats are terrified out and will never go against.
Speaker 5 (39:58):
He says, the party would be one I used to
embrace somebody like Stephen A. Smith, who's got a strong
mail following, but they won't do it because he's just
not woke enough for them. Former President Joe Biden, in
an interview with the liberal New York Times, claims he
quote consciously made the decisions as to who to pardon
with his auto pen during his final days in office.
(40:20):
Texas Congressman Brandon gill Is in buying it.
Speaker 37 (40:23):
That is a major scandal. And listen, President Trump is
exactly right. There were things done, legal things pardon's done
in Joe Biden's name that he didn't know about, and
that's wrong.
Speaker 5 (40:34):
Meantime, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul says he's going to reissue
his criminal referral of doctor Fauci to the DOJ. Of
course found she got a pardon from that auto pen.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
It's now six ZHO three.
Speaker 5 (40:46):
President Trump's Big Beautiful Bill is being celebrated for the
inroads it has made towards funding school choice, but it
also adds some new economic trends.
Speaker 28 (40:56):
Through shifting taxes and trying to lower federal deficits ri
versity Kelly Fellow. John diamond says is attempts to free
up capitol by boosting the economy.
Speaker 9 (41:06):
As the government runs big deficit, it crowds out private investment,
and when private investment slows down, the economy slows down.
Speaker 28 (41:13):
Diamond says, the bill is really an extension of the
twenty seventeen Trump Bill that really reformed taxas and needed
to be extended as it was. Mike Shiloh News Radio

Speaker 36 (41:33):
At the end of fifty days, if we don't have
a deal, then we're going to have to do We
have no choice but to do secondary tariffs. You go it,
secondary tariffs, which are pretty tough.
Speaker 28 (41:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (41:44):
The President putting Russia on the clock. Six zero four.
Speaker 5 (41:47):
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a system in the
Gulf of America with a forty percent chance of tropical
development this week. We'll have more with Terry Smith in
a few moments. Meantime, the death tolls up to one
hundred and thirty two in the Hill Country flooding. At
least one hundred are still missing. Governor Greg Gappt wants
improvements in the FEMA response and blames the Biden administration
(42:10):
for how bloated FEMA became and supports President Trump's plan
to downsize.
Speaker 10 (42:15):
Would be more nimble, quicker in the response, but also
understanding that is the locals who know what is best
and responding to a disaster.
Speaker 5 (42:24):
Official say recovery could take months. The debate is already
underway as to how to prevent future disasters. Experts say
investment into alerts via AM radio might be the way
to go here.
Speaker 12 (42:37):
It is resilient through different storms. It reaches areas that
cell phone powers can't. They can do up to a
two minute message that will get broadcast through those AM channels.
Speaker 5 (42:49):
Alerts expert Eddie Bertolis's leaders need to look carefully at
what will work best in each situation.
Speaker 3 (42:56):
Elsewhere in state.
Speaker 5 (42:57):
Politics, President Trump officially endorsed several tech house Republicans, all
of whom voted for school choice. That includes Speaker Dustin Burrows,
who some members of the grassroots wanted to primary.
Speaker 13 (43:09):
But I do think he has some priorities. Legislatively speaking,
he is rewarding lowilthy and for him the lalty standard
or the legislative endeavors that he believes are important.
Speaker 3 (43:19):
Political consultant.
Speaker 5 (43:20):
Political consultant Bill Miller says there's still a chance that
some of these Republicans face a primary, but with a
Trump endorsement, it's unlikely that they'll lose.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
Six zero six.
Speaker 5 (43:30):
Looking at your money, overnight trading is flat this morning.
That now gained eighty eight points yesterday. Texas homeowners are
staying on the sidelines as high mortgage rates continue to
freeze the market. Bank Rate's latest number show sluggish activity
as sellers cling to low rate loans secured during COVID.
Speaker 14 (43:48):
Yeah, everyone likes to pine for the good old days
quote unquote of three percent mortgage rates, But really they
were that low because something had gone terribly wrong, and
they're up to close to seven percent now because things
are going right in the economy.
Speaker 5 (44:01):
Bank Rates Jeff Ostrawski says, buyers, buyers are holding out
for better rates below six percent before making a move.

Speaker 3 (44:29):
Right now it's developing.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
What use radio seven forty KTRH, No, is that like
the heavy you can track the younger crowd playing that
in a cracker barrel.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
That'll drive, that'll drive all the old people away. Six
all eight is our time here in Houston's boring News.
So crack I was just talking about this the other day,
wasn't I? You know about this restaurant in the outer
Banks of North Carolina that we loved to go to
called Owen's Family God and Operate. It been around for
like seventy years and somebody new came in and bought
it and started changing everything, and they're out of business.
(45:04):
You know, that's what happens. You know, these these companies
that own restaurants think that they can bringing a CEO
who thinks they can come up with something better, who
thinks that somehow the brand is no longer relevant. We
have to change things to attract a younger crowd. So
we're going to change the menu, and we're going to
change the decor. If we're going to make cracker Barrel
not Cracker Barrel anymore, in which case, all the people
(45:28):
who went to Cracker Barrel because the Cracker Barrel don't
want to go. So I thought, okay, well maybe maybe
it's just me. Let's let's ask the audience here. Would
you modernize cracker Barrel? And if so, how would you
do it? Go to the iHeartRadio f KTRH, you hit
the talkback button, you get up to thirty seconds. You
won't need thirty I'm sure. First name where you're calling from,

and what you would do with cracker Barrel. Let's see
what some of our listeners have to think about that.
Speaker 3 (45:53):
Good morning. This is Jack and Connecticut. When it comes

and are losing continued to lose support with white, Men hispanic,
men and working class voters across the. Board in, FACT
i WOULD i would, say And i've heard this observation
from a lot of political, puns that The republicans have
(52:01):
become the party of the working, man a complete. Flip
and who the constituents are for each political Party joyce
to talk about Is Texas State Representative Briscoe. Caine clearly
The democrats have a, problem brisco and they're not doing
anything about.
Speaker 18 (52:17):
It they do have A problemce fascinating in the polling.

losing white. Men and The democrats are learning the hard
(52:38):
way that open borders don't win hearts or even. Elections,
uh they're two. Woke but when you say the word,
weak if you look at a, polling it's saying that
have weak. LEADERS i think everybody's probably on their head
right now. Thoughing, yep when we compare The Republican party
of The Democrat, party they kind of show off this.
Speaker 3 (52:57):

Speaker 2 (52:57):
Yeah Even President obama called out the rest of his Fellow.
Democrats he's given them The dad. Lecture, yeah, yeah it's
kind of.
Speaker 18 (53:06):
Embarrassing, LOOK i think they're finding out that just playing identity,
politics conservatives are wing at the kitchen. Table The democrats
platform right now just again seems to be WOKE dei
and people are concerned about their next, meal paying the
bills and those kind of. Things they just trump the.
Speaker 3 (53:27):
Shark do you think it's the same way In?
Speaker 2 (53:29):
Texas you, KNOW i Think Texas, democrats at least for
a long long, time they were certainly less woke and less.
Speaker 3 (53:35):
Weak they.
Speaker 2 (53:35):
Were i'm thinking Of Mayor John, whitmyer for, example WHICH
i would consider to be more of a Mainstream democrat
or an old School. Democrats do we still have old
School democrats In texas or are they becoming woke in
weak ear as?
Speaker 18 (53:47):
Well you may have named the one of the very few.
Exceptions there might be one or two. More there's a
guy Named Richard raymond that live that's THAT i know In.
Austin he, represents you, know from the areas and kind
of can't think where he represents the valley. Area but
that's about. It there's one or two left In. Texas
(54:09):
other than, that the rest of them all just pretend
to try not to be woken out or win. Elections
that party has been taken over by the progressive. Left
they are who they. Are that's why people have fleeing that.
Speaker 2 (54:20):
Plantation, okay so if nothing, changes what do you think
happens in the midterm? Elections?
Speaker 3 (54:27):
Dude will it?
Speaker 11 (54:28):
Be you?
Speaker 2 (54:29):
Know because, historically speaking of, course whichever president is in,
power whichever party is in, power has losses in the midterm.
Elections that's normally what. HAPPENS i take it you don't
think that's going to happen this.
Speaker 18 (54:39):
Time, well, sure, LOOK i think that's Why democrats are
panicking about this. Pulling, normally they're relying on the old
idea of the adage that things are going to flip
during the mid. Terms right, now they're panicking because they
may be losing that opportunity as, well because people are
just sick and tired of their policies that have nothing
to do with the real.

App sixteen thirty eight our time here In houston's morning.
News right as The monday morning quarterbacking continues over The
Guadalouge river flood In kerrville and In Kirr. County and
when people knew there was a problem and what they
did to try to evacuate it is more and more
(01:04:03):
information comes out about this becomes more obvious to me
anyway that this is this is something that people were not.
Ignoring they were as soon as they became aware that
the flood was was going to be a, problem they
tried to get the hell out of dodge it just
it just rose so fast it became physically impossible to
(01:04:25):
evacuate people quickly, enough AND i don't think there's any
way they could have anticipated that the river would reach
the kind of levels it. Did but here's here's a
Report guestsdays from our television PARTNER kprc too About Camp.
Mystic when did they know that the flood was going
to be a problem and when did they start doing
something about.
Speaker 41 (01:04:44):
It Jeff carr is president Of Griffin, communications which is
A houston area company that is handling communications For Camp
mystic and The eastland. Family Dick eastland ran the camp
with his, wife and he lost his life trying to
save the youngest campers from the. Floodwaters griffin tells, us
based on conversations with a, Family eastland did receive the
one fourteen am alert from The National Weather service warning
(01:05:06):
of flash. Flooding it would have been impossible for him
not to get that. Alert family members said it woke him,
Up griffin told. Us griffin Says eastland immediately began checking
the conditions of the camp with a night watchman while
notifying other staff family members working at the camp via
walkie talkie to also began assessing. Conditions griffin said he
is still talking with family members to get a more concrete,
(01:05:28):
timeline but evacuations may have started between two and two
thirty am based on what he says he was told
By eastland's. Son griffin cautions though that timeframe is tentative
because people weren't looking at their, watches and he said
he was still working to find out when the magnitude
of what was coming became. EVIDENT a river gauge five
miles down stream From Camp instic showed at two thirty
(01:05:48):
am river levels had not yet reached, floodstays but rose. Quickly,
now since the camp is upstream of the, gauge it
would have seen higher water levels sooner than the gauge
would have registered those. Levels griffin says he hopes to
have a more concrete timeline this. Week twenty seven camp,
mistic counselors and campers lost their lives in this.
Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
Flood so we're talking like one fourteen in the. Morning
the owner of the camp is aware that there's a flood.
MORNING i mean that's well before the flood really started
to get, bad well before. That they started evacuation between
two and two thirty and at that point in, time
the closest flood gauge was not up to flood. Level
yet what they couldn't anticipate and didn't anticipate was just
(01:06:32):
how quickly that water was going to. Rise and SO
i guess the question, becomes how if that's the. Problem
if the problem wasn't that people didn't know about the,
flood they just didn't know how bad the flood was
going to, be that perhaps is an area they need
to be concentrating. On and by the, way coming up
a little bit later this, morning BECAUSE, i among, others
had been asking about the possibility of putting sirens In
(01:06:52):
we're going to talk at seven twenty two this morning
With Eddie, bertola the owner Of Bertola Advisory, services about
irons and what would be involved in putting sirens along
The guadaloupe or any other major river here In texas
that could have similar flooding. Issues right, now trafficking weather,

four our weather. Center, Yeah terry is. Here it is
going to become at least slightly more, organized is it, Not?
Terry it very well could.
Speaker 17 (01:09:10):
See here's the thing right, now this is just a
little area of spin and some thunderstorms on the east
side Of, florida and it's drifting. Westward when it moves
out in The gulf the conditions there could allow it
to become better, organized so that's why we're watching it
to make sure it doesn't, misbehave and The National Hurricane
(01:09:32):
center is expected to go out there and investigate it.
Tomorrow that's why we call it an Invest so we're
going to be watching it regardless if it does get any.
Organized the one thing it will, do if it's just
a blob or if it's something, tropical it will bring
rain along The gulf, coast and perhaps heavy.
Speaker 3 (01:09:50):
Rain so that's the main concern at this.
Speaker 17 (01:09:52):
Point we'll keep you, posted and we don't have a
whole lot of rain to deal with, today only a
thirty percent chance of showers and. Storms no rain tomorrow And,
thursday and then our range chance is fifty percent.

Time so, evidently the rumor is that the reason why
the list has never been released is there's a lot
of prominent politicians on that, list many of Them. Democrats BUT,
tmz before you, snicker they actually break quite a few
stories these. DAYS tmz had this report on whether or
not there's An epstein list and who might be on.
Speaker 42 (01:12:43):
It there are numerous numerous names in that file of
famous people and, celebrities and that he just reveled in
having all of these people in his.
Speaker 3 (01:12:59):
Universe and the file makes that.
Speaker 42 (01:13:02):
Clear because, remember the government did a lot of investigating
and talked to a lot of, people And epstein wrote
things down. Too but the file includes one person who
is privy said to, me it's half the people in
the world that are. Famous, NOW i think that might be,
hyperbolic but one of the people's he mentioned several And
(01:13:26):
i'm not going to mention their, names And i'll tell
you why in a, minute but one THAT i will
mention that he said Is Fidel castro is in that.
File The Fidel, castro the dictator In, cuba who is,
dead but he was in that. File So Jeffrey epstein
amassed lots and lots of. Names we talked about last
(01:13:49):
week That Donald trump is on a flight, Manifest, well
his name is mentioned several times in the.
Speaker 3 (01:13:56):
File nothing, Untoward there was nothing we're.
Speaker 42 (01:13:59):
Told that in any way implicates him on any of
the things for Which epstein was charged nothing, untoward but his,
name along with, many, many many other people mentioned in that.
File Why Donald trump is so adamant now about not releasing.
(01:14:20):
IT i don't know if it has to do with
the fact that his, name along with so many others is.
There because, again now multiple people have told me there's
nothing untoward with respect To. Trump So i'm not sure
why he is so adamant about. This but the way
(01:14:44):
it's been put to me by two people is and
again people with knowledge of this that you Know epstein
he didn't blackmail people as much as he just like
holding things over the heads of the rich in the, famous.
Speaker 2 (01:15:02):
And he did a pretty good job of, THAT i would.
Say so there's no list per, se there's a, File
so why won't they release the? File all?
Speaker 3 (01:15:10):
Right? Trump President trump claims there's no interest in. It nobody.

KNOW i haven't looked at the satellite picture this. Morning
and if it is getting. Bigger that probably poor tense
things not. Developing it's.
Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
Disorganized, okay here's here's my other question about the. Blob
why is it moving from east to? West that strikes
me as. Unusual you know, what it.
Speaker 17 (01:27:35):
Is unusual except in the summer, months if you can believe,
that we get these little westward moving tropical waves that
come off The african coast and make their way across
The atlantic and head into The. Gulf and the main
reason is this big high pressure ridge that's out in The.
Atlantic it's north Of, florida and so it's steering everything
(01:28:01):
from west or east to.
Speaker 3 (01:28:03):
West so that's why it's moving.
Speaker 17 (01:28:06):
Westward that's an excellent question, though because normally we think
of our weather patterns is moving from west to. East
but this far, south we'll see those little tropical waves
coming in from The atlantic and making their way into The.
Speaker 3 (01:28:19):
Gulf so it.
Speaker 17 (01:28:21):
Will have some impact likely on us toward the end

things that has been brought up a lot is whether
or not a sirens system would have prevented many of
the desks that we have seen so. Far and the
death hole continues to. Climb and of course the other
part of it is because they talked about putting a
siren system in, before but, evidently at least according to
(01:29:30):
The Texas, tribune the taxpayers balked at the idea of
spending over a million dollars to put some sort of
a siren system in because they're very fiscally conservative politically

Speaker 2 (01:31:04):
News all, right the siren, idea it had been, proposed
but it was never acted. Upon according to The Texas,
tribune it was the fight going on between public officials
and what they thought they needed to keep people safe
versus the taxpayers and what they were willing to spend money.
On joining us Is Eddie, bertola the owner Of Petola Advisory.
(01:31:24):
Services let's let's talk about sirens in. General if there
had been sirens along The Guadalupe, river how would that
system have. Worked when would the sirens go? Off would
they go off when a flood warning was first, issued
or would it go off when the flood when the
river got to a certain.
Speaker 3 (01:31:40):
Level great.
Speaker 12 (01:31:43):
Question sirens are a local, decision and so you'll get
the flash flood warning from The National Weather, service but
at the local, level they are the ones to decide
when to activate or choose not to activate the.
Speaker 2 (01:31:56):
Sirens, Okay so if the decision had been made to
only activate the, sirens if the river got to a certain,
level the sirens might not have been enough to save
people because that river rose so.
Speaker 12 (01:32:06):
Fast you, know sirens are an interesting tool and they're
just one of many tools that are used to communicate
with a public during an. Emergency it has a technical
element and it has a human. Element the technical elements,
obviously you, know do you have enough sirens or they
positioned in a, Place but you have the human element
of is the public educated on what to do when
(01:32:28):
they hear a siren because we have, tornadoes we have
different weather. Events are they going to hear a siren
and THINK i need to go to the center of
my house or seek shelter by going, underground or are
they going to, say you, KNOW i hear the, SIREN
i need to go you, know high above and there
could be a flash. Flood, additionally there are two types of,
sirens and people use, sirens but specifically two main, ones
(01:32:52):
and one is the audible tone that we're used to
hearing sometimes in the. Testing but the second is one
that actually projects a voice or an actual.
Speaker 44 (01:33:02):
Message so you can hear it and it will give.
Direction so, yeah two different. Options how much does the
system like that? COST i mean The Guadadalupe i'm not
trying to think about how long The Guadalupe river is
if you were to put and how many sirens would
you need to install along a river of that size
in order to be able to make sure that everybody
along the river could he hear a warning.
Speaker 3 (01:33:23):
Message i'm sure it's.
Speaker 12 (01:33:26):
Expensive AND i say, that you, know looking back as
you talked About monday morning, quarterbacking is the price too?
Speaker 3 (01:33:33):
High?
Speaker 12 (01:33:34):
Right and NOW i believe everybody would, say, no the
price is not too, high but you have TO i also,
understand as we get to that technical, element the purpose
of a siren if you're, indoors isn't to provide you.
Speaker 3 (01:33:47):
Information it's generally for those that are.
Speaker 12 (01:33:49):
Outside it's for those that are outside walking or on
the streets to seek shelter or do whatever it is
that you are trained to do when you hear a.
Siren and so if you're inside a, residence the likelihood
of you receiving information via a siren is actually quite.
Speaker 2 (01:34:07):
Low so it sounds to me here's the other issue
That i'd like to address with The, eddie and that
is and he kind of brought this, up is you
don't know how people are going to necessarily react to
whatever the, morning whatever the warning message. Is for, example
let's come out now that the owner Of Camp mystic
was aware one fourteen of the morning that there had
(01:34:27):
been a flood flash flood warning that had been issued
and began having his staff monitor the, river and when
it got to a point where he felt like the
river was getting too, high then they started evacuation when
the course it became too late in some cases because
the river just rose so. Quickly so again you've got
that human. Element it's pretty tough to work around the human.
Speaker 12 (01:34:49):
Element so it's very tough and it's very necessary at
the same. Time and that's when we talk about emergency
communication with the. Public in any, community it's got to
be a partnership and your local emergency, managers your local
elected officials have to work hand in hand with the community,
(01:35:10):
members especially if you have areas Like Camp mystake or
others which have a dynamic, population which have a group
of people that may not be used to that. Area
campers that this is the first time you, know near
a flood zone that may not understand what to do
and so there is a higher risk and generally just
(01:35:31):
a higher need to be.
Speaker 2 (01:35:32):
Prepared in your, Mind, eddie is there another system that
may be more cost effective that would also help to
alert people who don't have access to a cell phone
or a radio or a television in order to be
able to know what's going on in the case of
an emergency like.
Speaker 1 (01:35:49):
This there are.
Speaker 12 (01:35:51):
Multiple tools in that toolbox and that's where we get
into the responsibility of those that are sending these alerts
to understand that it's it's not just you know that
wireless emergency alert and radio is the most resilient method
that still exists today to give information, out you have
the No weather. Radio but on the other, side you
(01:36:13):
have to have a community that understands there are multiple
ways to get the information and they need to, have you,
know a resilient method if if they are if they're
in an area that doesn't have a good cell phone
coverage that they're not going to receive. Messages they need
to also be then tuned into radio because radio can
reach they need to have the No weather radio ready
to go.
Speaker 3 (01:36:34):
On it's it's definitely a two way.
Speaker 12 (01:36:37):
Street BUT i do believe there are methods and a
plan that can be used to help people stay.
