Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, to me the attorney general in the great state
of Texas. You have to be a lawyer. And I'm
pretty sure our next guest owns a gun, at least
I think he does. And I know he's going to
require some campaign contributions to run for office, So please
send money. I cover everything you need there.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Representative Roy, Hey, Jimmy Mann, you're hired.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Good good, I'll be your honorary campaign manager. What went
into this decision? I know that serving in Congress, it's
got to be frustrating because you get things done kind
of guy, and it takes so long to get anything done.
You have to get frustrated after a few years of
doing that, don't you.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah, oh Dan, thanks for having me on. I mean, look,
you know a lot of people have asked me that question.
It's less about the frustration. I mean, look, a Republican
form of government, Congress, there's four hundred and thirty five people.
You got to figure it out. It does get frustrating
when people aren't doing what I think they said they
would do and cut spending, do the things that I
think we should do. But that's the process. You go
fight it out. For me, it was a combination of factors,

(01:00):
and the biggest of which is, look, I will have
served four terms in eight years. We as conservatives always
talk about wanting to refresh blood up there. I didn't
unilaterally disarm and say I was going to turn limit myself,
but I just reached a point where I felt like, look,
I have fought a good fight up there, and now
there's this opportunity to serve Texas. Come home being near

(01:22):
my family, my kids are in high school. I'm literally
driving away from having dropped my kids off at school
and come home to Texas to defend and fight for
Texas here. And I particularly after the Kerville floods. You know,
I was praying a lot about it. I was thinking
about doing it. We got the beautiful bill done on
July third, the flood's happened on July fourth. Then I
spent a lot of time with cops, sheriffs, the Texas

(01:46):
Department of Emergency Management, the Governor's Office, GPS, all these
great people, and I just felt a calling to come
home and serve Texas in AG's office. I've served there before.
I'm a former federal prosecutor. My grandfather is the chief
of the police of the small town of West Texas.
I love the state. She needs to be defended, and
I feel it's a good opportunity to come back. And

(02:07):
as they say on boards, take my talents elsewhere there
you go.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Well, our current Attorney General Ken Paxon, of course, has
been a very high profile because he much like you
as a fighter. So I'm assuming that you're probably a
fan of his work and you want to continue fighting
the way he has.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Yeah, no question. When when I was his first assistant,
we had to transfer everything from then Attorney General Abbot
who had become governor and keep the fight going. And
we hired a stellar team to do that and got
it off the ground. There are five cases before the
Supreme Court, and I know these issues well. I I'm
the current chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution, important

(02:43):
issues that you want to go defend in court, fight
to defend Texas. You know, Ken and I have a
friendship that goes way back. Tim Hughes, State Rep. And
I was a federal prosecutor and living up in McKinney,
And you know we share the same desire to keep
Washington out of our lives, to beat back the big
federal bureaucrats, the people that want to undermine our freedom,

(03:05):
and frankly, there's a lot that we still need to do.
We need to advance them all further. We've got to
stop these Soros, DA's and judges that are making our
streets more dangerous. We've got to stop these you know,
faithless corporations coming in and stomping all over small businesses
and making health insurance unaffordable with monopolies and foreign investments,
and Chinese communists buying up Texas lands, and all of

(03:27):
the things that are assault on our way of life.
The advance of Shria law and islamis I'm not talking
about the faith. I'm talking about politically motivated islamis advancing Shrila.
There's a lot of things we've got to do to
preserve and protect Texas. So I am motivated to do
those things.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Well, i'll tell you first, An, I'm very very glad
that you're in the race. I'm sure you won't beat
the only one in the race. What is it going
to take to win the primary?

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Well, right now, we feel very good. I've got very
strong name id, very strong favorables. I'm racking up a
lot of very strong endorsements. Think there'll be some shuffling
around in the race. We'll see. We like our positioning,
and you know we're going to hit the ground running
the primaries, not for another six and a half months.
You know, other people have gotten in the race earlier.
But you know, look, I've got a day job in
Congress and I'm going to continue to do that job

(04:13):
for sixteen more months. You know, I represent the twenty
first district, which includes Kerrville. As I've pointed out before,
you know, I got to keep fighting and we'll be
doing that, and we'll be out all across state of Texas.
I'll be in San Antonio today talking about election integrity.
I'll be in Houston and night. I'll be in Tyler
tomorrow covering the Great States. So we'll get our message

(04:34):
out and I believe that people will like it, and
I believe we'll be in a good pisition.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
All right, Congressman, thanks for your time. As always, we
do appreciate it. That is representative Chip Roy. You'll have
a great day, great weekend. We'll see you Monday morning,
bright and early five. Hope to see you this safter
