Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, d feel safe going to church knowing that
some churches appear to be targets. I have never walked
into a church once thinking that something bad was going
to happen. But now I guess we all have to
be concerned about it. The question is how to handle it.
Crisping Nut Joins, US President of Texas Gun Rights As
I said a moment ago, Chris, we have local sheriff's

(00:23):
departments that are stepping up patrols around churches. But at
the end of the day, if you want to secure church,
you're probably gonna have to provide for the security yourself,
aren't you.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yeah. Absolutely, And you know, before twenty seventeen, you know,
many small Texas which is the small Texas churches, which
is the majority of churches that we have across the state,
we're effectively forced to choose between going unprotected or paying
for very expensive, licensed, private security that they couldn't afford. So,
you know, all of their congregants were effectively sitting ducks.

(00:54):
So you know, thankfully, former state representative and former Texas
Gun Rights Board member even Matt Renald fix that by
removing or by altering the occupation codes to allow unpaid
volunteer security to provide services without that expensive licensing requirement.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Well that's good. I would think too that the course
of this being Texas, that a lot of these parishioners
already you know, have a weapon and to permit to
use that weapon. Why not go ahead and recruit them
to provide in service security for your church? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Absolutely, And that's that's definitely an option and something that
the churches are allowed to do. As part of that
volunteer security bill is to also allow Congress against just
to simply carry because at the end of the day,
when every second counts and the police are offen minutes away,
you are always going to be your best first line
of defense. And not only that, and I'm sure you're

(01:54):
aware of the statistics, but nine of mass shooting since
nineteen fifty have happened in these dangerous gun free criminal
safety zones or sitting duckt zones as we like to
call them.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
So staying armed is always a great thing to do.
I have to wonder, too, would it pay? Do you
think it? This is I can see both sides of this.
I could probably argue both ways on this as well.
Does it make sense for a church to advertise that
they have they provide their parishoners with the secure service.
Is that some if we got to the point where
churches need to advertise that, or do you risk putting

(02:28):
more fear into the people who are going to church? Now?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
I mean I do agree.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
I think it's a double edged sword.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
But more than anything, I think if a person who
is hell bent on committing an active evil knows that
they are going to face armed resistance, then frankly they
are going to be too cowardly to choose that location.
They will go on to the next, the next location.
And we've seen that time after time in manifestos released

(02:55):
by these deranged killers.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
I'm kind of curious too, Chrispin, the organizations like yours
Texas Gun Rights, have you seen an increase in membership
since this violence is sticked up? You've seen more people
that perhaps had considered carrying a firearm before become more
interested in doing so to protect themselves and their families.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Well, I will say that, you know, since the tragic
assassination of Charlie Kirk, we have certainly seen an uptick
in activity and both memberships and people just wanting to
volunteer to get involved.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
Well, that's good to hear. Thank you, sir, appreciate your
time this morning. As president of Texas Gun Rights Chris McNutt,
it's five point fifty six. You're a news radio seven

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
