Speaker 1 (00:00):
I don't know. Was it televised yesterday in New York City?
Was that a revolution or is that just going to
be a really hard learning lesson for New York City.
Clay Travis joins us, We're talking about his new book
in just a second, but I want to get your
thoughts on the election of state. What happened in New
York City. No surprise, right I.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Was, now I'm in New York City right now. I
was not surprised. I think the question was would he
win and outright majority Mom Donnie, and he did, and
so they had record high turnout. He motivated people who
are angry about things in the world and convince them
that he had a solution to it. And I don't

(00:37):
think that he does. In fact, I think this is
actually going to make New York City worse. It's a
little bit like, you know, intentionally hitting yourself in the
thumb when you're trying, when you're frustrated because the building
project's not going well. But but I think that's where
we are, and I think the story in Virginia and

(00:58):
New Jersey.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
I was looking at the numb.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
I just tweeted this out is you know, and it's
going to be a big question for next year. Trump's
base doesn't necessarily show up when Trump is not on
the ballot. And I went and looked both Cidarelli and Spanburger. Sorry,
Earl Sears got about six hundred thousand less votes than

(01:23):
Trump did last year in Virginia and New Jersey. And
so I think the big question going forward is going
to be to what extent do Republicans turn out in
twenty six because right now the people who hate Trump
are going to show up and vote no matter what
they buy into the democracy's at stake. Oh my god,

(01:43):
he's a king. The Trump base, I think is pretty happy,
and the non traditional Trump voter I would put it
this way. You know, I come from the world of sports.
They can fill up one hundred thousand seats to watch
Texas A and M or Texas play a foototball game,
as you well know, and then the basketball arena only seats,

(02:05):
you know, fifteen thousand. Why is that? People are still
big fans of Texas and Texas A and M. They
just care way more about football. Trump voters are the
football fans, and the Democrats are the diehard who are
going to show up for the softball game. You know
they are. They are the most committed fan base when

(02:25):
it comes to top to bottom of the entire you know,
sort of fan universe. And let's be honest, a political
party is really just a gathering of fans of a
particular worldview. And so that's the analogy that I would draw.
I think it's the question going forward as well.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
I'd love to quickly ask you before we run out
of time here about the book Balls, how Trump young
men in sports saved America? I think you just had
a very good analogy probably what the book is about there,
didn't you.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, Look, in twenty twenty four, Trump delivered an epic
victory for sanity America, and he did it by mobilizing
young men sports fans to show up and say enough
already with the craziness. The question going forward is going
to be how do those young men continue to be

(03:14):
channeled in an effective way politically? And that's really the
essence of the book. How did Trump win in twenty
twenty four, How much of a unique political talent is
he and to what extent are these young men able
to be mobilized in the years ahead.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
Claig, thank you for your time this morning, we'll look
forward to get into the book Balls how Trump, young
men in Sports Saved America claim Buck of course, are
coming up this morning at eleven am here on News
Radio seven forty KTRH. You'all have a great day. We'll
see tomorrow morning, bright, nearly five
