Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, the No King's protest, as I said, tomorrow seven
twenty two, now here in Houston's boring news here to
talk about it with US Harris County Sheriff's Office, Captain
David Jasper, I wonder too, is there going to be
a No King's protest in Great Britain this weekend? Because
they really do have a king? No? Okay, I can't
quite forget that one out. So how are you folks preparing,
Officer Jasper?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
So, we have an intelligence section at the Harrison County
Sheriff's Office and our Fieldforce operations guys are in contact
with the event organizers and we're monitoring the situation, and
we have officers that we'll have at some of the
locations and we'll be monitoring it and make sure that
(00:44):
everybody's out there being safe.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
How many locations in the City of Houston are going
to be impacted by this? Do you know where they're
supposed to be marching at so that people can kind
of avoid those areas?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Right? So, the City of Houston is staffing four different locations,
two that are downtown that will merge into one. They'll
have a march and they'll end up at City Hall.
There'll be one in Kingwood, one at clear Lake, and
then there's two and unincorporated Harris County, one at two
ninety and Highway six and the other on High ten
(01:20):
and West.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Have you been given any idea by the organizers of
this event on how many people who'll be expected to
participate in this protest?
Speaker 2 (01:30):
So the one at two ninety and Highway six, we
have been in contact with the organizer, but there's more
than one organization that's going to be out there. That's
the same organization that organized it back in June. There
was an event out there in June, and I would
say across them a thousand people brought there.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Okay, And of course there's also an event going on
in the Woodlands. I'm guessing that has more to do
with Montgomery County that it does for your office. Yes, sir,
so you know, are there any Are there any particular
concerns about the protest? It seems to me the last
time we had this there were there weren't any issues
with violence or people getting out of control or destroying anything.
(02:11):
I'm assuming we're expecting it to be a peaceful protest.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Well, we always hope for the best that we prepare
for the worst, but always the concern its public safety.
You know, you may be well intended and you're standing
out there and at a busy intersection, and if you
get distracted, and you know what traffic's like in Houston,
being distracted around all those cars is not particularly safe.
(02:39):
So be mindful and stay out of the roadway.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Well, you don't have to worry. Done of our listeners
will be there pretty much pretty much. Assure you that
appreciate the advice, don't worry. They won't be there. Were
there any arrests last time out.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
We didn't have any arrest everybody, you know, I'm tell
you most of the people were very peaceful and very courteous,
and several of them came up to us and thanked
us for keeping them safe.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Well, that's what makes Texas a little bit different than
anywhere else, doesn't it. Thank you, sir, appreciate your time
this morning. Yep, David Jasper, Harris County Sheriff's Office Captain.
Even out there protesting against Trump, people can be civil
and peaceful, at least most of them.
