Yeah, time is running out for the Texas House. Seven
twenty three our time, David Low joins us. He's a
representative from House District ninety one. Welcome to the show,
sir so Hi. We are disappointed, as usual in how
little has come out of the Texas House. Today's sort
of the drop dead day. What do we expect if
anything coming out of the House today.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Well, today is the last day for House bills to
be heard in the Texas House, and honestly, what you
will see is the Democrats giving some of the most
ridiculous speeches and asking some of the stupidest questions. Because
what they're doing is called chubbing, which slows down the

(00:41):
process as much as possible so that we don't get
to legislative priorities.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Yeah. In other word, it's a delay tactic, and it's
obviously been very effective. They They've been doing that for
years now, and I continue to be shocked that the
Republicans have the majority in the House and yet we
have enough rhinos left in the House that they're making
deals with the devil, so to speak, in order to
make sure that some of these bills don't get through. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Absolutely so. Basically, the leadership cut a deal at the
very beginning in order to vote for a particular person
for speaker, and actually most of the freshmen Democrats got
their bills heard on the Texas House floor first. So

(01:33):
he is definitely bowing down to the minority party. But
the problem is we don't have a super majority, which
is one hundred votes or more, so you know, if
we want a constitutional amendment past, sometimes they choose to
appease the Democrats because they don't want them to kill

(01:55):
the constitutional amendments. So there's a lot of wheeling and dealing.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Oh yeah, and a lot of lobbyists in the Texas House,
there's no doubt about that too. And they bring a
lot of money and they bring a lot of pressure.
I don't know how you go about dealing with that.
You're either you're either going to be consumed to buy
the lobbyist pressure or you're not. Hopefully you're not. Let
me ask you this from a practical standpoint here, the
governor got the signature piece that he wanted. He didn't

he hasn't gotten the bond reform that he wanted, but
he did get the school choice measure that he wanted.
So if you hadn't done the school choice thing, I
guess is the first thing he would do would be
to call a special session. Has there been any talk
about a special session for the Texas House this time around?

Speaker 2 (02:38):
You know, because I had to get an apartment when
I moved out here for this session. I started asking
members recently should I extend my lease? And they have said,
we don't think so, because the governor got the number
one thing that he wanted to Remember, he called four
special sessions last time to get this piece, So I

(02:59):
think he'llby satisfied with your school choice. I at least
hope so.

Okay, well, and that means nothing else is probably going
