Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yeah, now we're talking about Dragon Line. In Fort Ben County.
They are considering evidently five different maps on how the
county's four precincts would be divided or redivided. However that
is it's going to work out. You may recall when
we went through that in Harris County. The purpose of that,
of course, was to get rid of one of the
county commissioners who was a Republican, Jack Hegel, and that worked.

(00:25):
It certainly worked, orchestrated course by you know, Rodney Ellis
and Lena Hildago, among others. What is the purpose behind
changing the the county precinct maps in Fort Ben County?
This ask doctor Bobby Everley, Fort Ben County geopcher. Is
it a similar situation fort Ben County? Is this to
try to either get more or less Republicans in county

(00:50):
commissioner seats?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Hey, Jimmy, good morning. Thanks for having me on. It
was funny your lead in there where you talked about
getting rid of a Republican with the whole idea right
in Harris County, That's exactly what the Democrats did to
us in twenty twenty one. They redrew the lines without
public hearing without public input, no transparency, in an effort

(01:14):
to make our four commissioner precincts three to one Democrat.
I guess the only thing they didn't count on in
the last election cycle was they had a complete and
utter criminal as one of their commissioner candidates, and so
he ended up losing. But the lines are the lines,
and they drew them to be three to one, and
so now we have an opportunity with Republican court to

(01:38):
redraw them and get it back to balance.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
At four.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Penn County is very evenly divided. We've had some great
election results the last two cycles, but on a partisan basis,
it's very even.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
And so we've got.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Maps out there now that get rid of that three
to one Democrat bias and get it back to two
to two, which is a huge gain for Republicans.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Well, and how much did it have your county Judge
JP George, How much did that KP George brother? How
much did that help having him become a Republican.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Oh, it's huge actually, because you know that the court
was three to two Democrat, and now he is really
on board. I've got to say for this redistricting, I'm
getting things right. He's been not only vocal, but he's
been a solid vote in this process the entire time.
So I'm thankful for that, and I'm thankful that we're

(02:33):
doing this process in the right way. You mentioned these
public hearings. I testified at two of them, just talking
about the different maps, and you had Democrats out there
in force as well. And so this is how it
should be, and this is how exactly opposite. You know,
it was in twenty twenty one when the Democrats at

(02:55):
the last minute put a map together, really influenced by
Harris County insultants, and you know, poor Bend was kind
of walking hand in glove with the Lena Hidalgo klan.
We just lagged about six months right anything that they
were doing the Democrats here started doing. But we were
able to fight back. We were able to win races,

(03:17):
gain control here and hopefully put things back in a
way that makes that County judge the true, you know,
deciding vote, and we see what happens. Republicans have to
have their act together and and win that race, and
that will determine control.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Of the court. What is the biggest difference, Bobby, between
the maps, near as you can tell.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Right now, it's just where are the elected officials going
to be. There's one map out there that really it minimizes.
In fact, there's only one, like Justice of the Peace,
that gets moved. All the rest of them stay the same,
and yet we're able to restore this this too two balance.
The current map on a partisan basis bias is like

(04:02):
thirteen percent favors the Democrats and this new one is
one percent favoring the Republicans, so basically right down the
middle and again fair as it could be. I'll be
getting more information out to do activists and Republican officials
and grassroots on my thoughts on the best maps, so

(04:24):
please stay tuned for that. But really there's one in
there if you look at the redistricting that's you know,
Mike Gibson j el amented, it's got a long name,
but that one is really the one that minimizes impact
on the current elected officials and allows us to get
back to that balance that is representative of the county.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Right, sir, well, it'll be interesting to see how this
all ends up. Thank you for your time today, Doctor
Bobby Everly for Ben County geop cher

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
