How about Supreme Court Justice Kamala A new book says
it could have happened.
Speaker 9 (02:26):
This might seem radical, but it would have been in
character for the Biden administration.
Speaker 10 (02:30):
It doesn't surprise me at all because it's all about politics,
and the issue would quickly become why are you opposing
a black woman for the Supreme Court.
Speaker 9 (02:38):
Newsmax contributor Jeffrey Lord pointed out that at the time
Biden pledged to prioritize nominating a black woman.
Speaker 10 (02:44):
The Democratic Party has worked itself into this position. They're
hung up on judging people by skin color. They feel
that it is part of their rights.

KATR Thank you, Ethan, it's five h three. The US
Supreme Court can overturn rulings by activist judges against the
white House and help fix illegal immigration. The question is
will they. Texas Congressman Ship Roy thinks, so.
Speaker 11 (03:16):
This is a subject that I care intentionally about because
you know, we see in Texas all the time in
our country, Birdwright, citizenship is being exploited.
Speaker 6 (03:23):
The court will rule next month on citizenship, which Trump
banned on his first day in office. Catch and release

Speaker 12 (03:34):
It's all part of reversing the disastrous Biden border policies.

round libraries from hosting drag Queen Story Hour events on
taxpayer funded property. Now, the Senate did pass the Women's
Bill of Rights, protecting women from being forced to share
locker rooms with biological men.
Speaker 15 (04:31):
The bill makes it clear that in Texas, sex is
defined by biology, not ideology. Along with that, it helps
ensure that women's rights are protected by clearly defining what
a woman is and what a woman is not.
Speaker 7 (04:43):
That bill is now headed to Governor Rabbott's desk.
Speaker 6 (04:46):
Lawmakers are still working on property tax reform, but critics
want to see property taxes abolished. James Quintero at the
Texas Public Policy Foundation says that's got to start at
the local level.
Speaker 16 (04:58):
Encourage officials to not on spend less, but to adopt
a no new revenue tax rate. Until we get local
officials to exercise fiscal discipline, it's going to be much
harder at the legislative level to eliminate property taxes.

has a much better relationship with the Middle East, as
evidence by his recent trip over to that part of
the world in OPEC spent a lot more friendly towards
raising production.
Speaker 6 (05:52):
Market analyst Phil Flynn, Trump's invisible hand is working on
something else too.
Speaker 18 (05:58):
That would be Trump's entergy revolution.
Speaker 19 (06:01):
Trump likes to say it will bring on a golden age,
and I think energy is a huge part of that picture.

That is attorney and political columnist Charlton Allen Presta.
Speaker 19 (06:12):
Trump is doing fantastic work of not just this front,
but on multiple fronts simultaneously. All it takes is one

A good juicy burger five o eight our time here
in Houston's morning news. I don't call bs on this
survey though, door Dash by the way, Happy National Burger Day.
That's what's prompting the conversation. It's National Burger day today,
So I figured it would be a good day for
us to share with each other our favorite Houston burger.
Where it is you get it? You could be a
(07:48):
hold the ball, mom and the pop. In fact, Mom
and Pops are the best as far as I'm concerned.
I'll let you know one of the places that I like.
You let me know maybe a place or two that
you like could be a You know, if you think
what a burger is the best burger in Houston, you
can say what a burger's the best burger in Houston
as far as I'm concerned. But I'm kind of looking
(08:10):
for the I'm kind of looking for the mom and
pop places because that's usually where you find the best burgers.
Here's the only thing. Here's the only thing I ask
is that we put down some criteria that no matter
how you like the burger cooked, you have to be
able to order it rare. In other words, they trust
their meat so much or they grind their own meat
(08:31):
that you can I would never eat it where you
might say, but I could get it where if I
wanted to. If you got a burger place like that,
here's what you do. You go the iHeartRadio app KTRH.
Please make us number one hundred presets. You can get
there fast and then you get thirty seconds once you
hit the talkback button. First name. Where you're calling from.
Best burger joint in Houston. It must still exist. Not
(08:56):
a burger from the past or a place you went
to as a kid. That's no longer. It's got to
be a place that we could go and we'll share
some thoughts here this morning. In the meantime, let me
share this bs with you from door Dash a National
Burger Day. They claim that chicken burgers are now the
most popular type of burger in the US. What is
a chicken burger? Chicken is not a burger. Chicken is
(09:20):
a chicken sandwich, isn't it? It's either a sandwich or nuggets.
It's not a burger. Who said? Who put this in here?
They claim that hamburgers or cheeseburgers were only the most
ordered type of burger in fourteen states. They say seventeen states,
chicken burgers were number one. Veggie burgers were number one
(09:41):
in thirteen states. Same thing. It's not a burger if
it's made of vegetables. But that's according to the people
at DoorDash another reason why I guess I don't use
door dash five ten type for track together. It's right,
it's wrong. This guy mine, My mom and dad went
to something.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
Boy, do you have to get somebody really up there
and went to somewhere I think off Washington called the
pig Stand.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Somebody knows the Shirley McClain movie stand.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
Yeah, there was a Shirley McClain movie filmed here, uh something.
It was some sad movie with her and I think
Jack Nicholson was in it, and they were they went
to the pig Stand. I am too young to know
about it, but that's where my mom and dad went.
All right, let's go to the tip line seven one
three two one two t ips Richard from Huntsville.
Speaker 22 (10:31):
A good morning, sky Mike, going northbound forty five. The
traffic is it is stan still from right there in
the north side of Huntsville, going northbound all the way
tooting a Waverley. I don't know if it has Mattsville
or something, but it's pretty backed up for a long way.
Speaker 5 (10:47):
All right, I've got some kind of rumbling from one
fifty two. This is northbound as you're heading up toward Huntsville.

We'll have to talk about this to a mid somebody
that knows this from the KTRH top tax Defenders twenty
four our weather center Can Boon is in for Terry today.
Another stormy day coming up today, Ken, We certainly do.
Speaker 23 (11:20):
We're watching some storms back out across central parts of
Texas towards the Austin and San Antonio area. All that
energy and those storms are headed eastwards. So as we
approach the midday hour, I think we might start to
see some showers and storms west of Houston, and they'll
be with us into and through much of the afternoon.
And any storm that we do see today could produce
a very heavy downpours at times. High temperatures in the
(11:41):
low to mid eighties, We'll keep a chance of showers
and storms in overnight low seventies.
Speaker 24 (11:45):
Showers and storms tomorrow.
Speaker 23 (11:47):
Best chance will be very late in the afternoon at
evening hours his on Thursday upper eighties to near ninety
just a slight chance Friday mid eighties, and then I
think a dryer trend of the weekend weather sunshine, just
a stray shower storm possible. Best chance for that would
be late Sunday upper eighties to near nineties Saturday Sunday.

He can cause a lot of trouble, and he is
five fifty three our time. Here in Houston's Born News.
Here is President Trump on Sunday complaining about how crazy
Putin has gotten with some of from retired General Jack Keene.
Speaker 41 (35:03):
I'm not happy with what Putin's doing. He's killing a
lot of people, and I don't know what the hell
happened to Putin. I've known him a long time, always
gotten along with him. But he's sending rockets into cities
and killing people, and I don't like it at all. Okay,
we're in the middle of talking and he's shooting rockets
into Giev and other cities.
Speaker 7 (35:22):
I don't like it at all.
Speaker 18 (35:24):
But whsident?
Speaker 22 (35:25):
What do you want to do.
Speaker 41 (35:26):
About I'm surprised. I'm very surprised. We'll see what we're
gonna do. What am I going to tell you? You're
the fake news?
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Aren't you?
Speaker 7 (35:32):
You're totally fake?
Speaker 16 (35:34):
All right?
Speaker 41 (35:34):
Any other questions. I don't like what Putin is doing,
not even a little bit. He's killing people and something
happened to this guy, and I don't like it.
Speaker 42 (35:43):
You've talked before about putting more sanctions on Russia.
Speaker 13 (35:46):
Is that something you're considering more career.
Speaker 41 (35:48):
Absolutely, he's killing a lot of people. I don't know
what's wrong with him. What the hell happened to him? Right,
he's killing a lot of people.
Speaker 24 (35:56):
I'm not happy about that.
Speaker 43 (35:57):
I mean, Putin is a war criminal. He's talking me
civilians that that is a war crime. But he has
always done this. In two thousand, when he took over,
he targeted innocent civilians in Checknaire, which was he believed
there were radicals there threatening Russia and he went in there.
Speaker 24 (36:15):
So there were military targets, but.
Speaker 43 (36:17):
He took down entire villages of civilians, no military targets.
He went into Grosny, the principal city, the short, entire neighborhoods.
Tens of thousands of people killed as a result of
his bombing and artillery that he used on those civilians.
In twenty fifteen and sixteen, he did carpet bombing of Aleppo.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
He used chlorine bombs.
Speaker 43 (36:39):
He used cluster munitions that don't self detonate like the
United States does if they're on the ground for a
period of time. He used deep penetration bombs to go
into underground hospitals and kill the people. It was the
largest carpet bombing air campaign ever conducted since World War Two.
Speaker 24 (36:58):
This is Whuputin really is.
Speaker 43 (37:01):
He targets civilians and he's doing here to put pressure
on the president because he knows the president wants to
stop the killing, and he wants the president and get
so frustrated he backs away.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
He wants the president and gets so frustrated he backs away.
And that might be the end result here, because if
Putin doesn't want to deal, if Trump can't broke her
some sort of a piece, he's going to want to
distance himself from this entire thing. By Poin fifty six

get it rare there. That's the only problem all right.
Now back to the cities that made the list US
News and World Report. Now, I don't know, I know
what the criteria was in that they wanted places that
were you know, moving up, you know, population moving up.
(47:18):
But the prices, home prices are still affordable, schools are good,
the quality of life is good. But I don't know,
you know, how they managed to you know, rank some
of these cities so high on the list, or some
other ones that I would expect to be in the
top ten to be low on the list. Here in Texas.
(47:39):
But here's the top ten list in its entirety, and
I'll get to the Texas cities in just a second
because it doesn't take long. Johns Creek, Georgia, number one
according to US News and World Report, number two, Carmel, Indiana,
number three, Pairland. Pairland made number three of the top
ten list of best cities to live in the US.
Fisher's Indiana number four, carry North Carolina number five, League City,
(48:03):
Texas came in number six, Apex, North Carolina number seven, Leander,
Texas number eight, Rochester Hills, Michigan, number nine, and Troy,
Michigan number ten. Six to ten. Time for traffic and
weather together as we check out the drive once again.
Here is guy Mike all.
Speaker 5 (48:20):
Right, East Text Freeway. It looks to me like everybody's
okay here, Jimmy. They keep zooming this on. If you're
playing the home game, it's East Text at all.
Speaker 4 (48:26):
Dean Bender. That is camera number one, two two four.
There's a big truck.
Speaker 5 (48:31):
I think that's the biggest problem is there. He doesn't
seem to be able to move, so they're going to
need a supercize for him.
Speaker 4 (48:37):
And we got backups from the Beltway.

and it's forty five southbound. Got a bit of a
back quarter slip. Now six extra minutes this way. Your
best thing is to do the Hardy Crosby Freeway at
Lord Road. We even knew it before the online appsne

From our KTRH top Tax Defenders twenty four hour weather center.
Terry's off today. Ken Boone is in for her, and
he's got some thunderstorm activity that's probably going to rear
its ugly little head sometime today. What do you think
of midday afternoon somewhere in there?
Speaker 23 (49:28):
I think if you're a southwest of downtown Houston, could
be more like mid to late morning. We've got energy
down off to our southwest. We've got some back to
the west, all that kind of moving towards the Houston area.
So if you're west southwest of downtown Houston, you could
start to see those thunderstorms move in as we approach
mid morning, getting into downtown Houston. Probably a little closer
(49:48):
to midday, but showers and storms mid to late morning
into and through the afternoon at any that we do
see could produce a very heavy downpours Today, Temperatures into
low to mid eighties. We'll keep a chance of showers
and storms in overnight low seventies. Tomorrow, storm's best chance
it'll be late afternoon and evening highs up for eighties
to near ninety. Just a slight chance for those afternoon
evening storms Friday, and then just a stray storm over

the weekend as we see it, kind of drier trend
to the weather for the weekend.

All right, we all know who Lena Hildago is, so
the things that she does are not a surprise to
me or to you or to our next guest who's
there as County GOP chair, Cindy Siegel. But it sure
is ripe that somehow there's no money for at least
(52:51):
in her mind, no money for Deputy Racis, although thanks
to the rest of the Commissioner's Court, the deputies will
be getting their wage. Parody. But there's plenty of money
five million dollars in fact, to lobby the state. Cindy Singal,
the Harris County GOP chair, joins us. You know, I
don't know about you, but I think one of the
things that we could do to immediately improve politics in
(53:11):
the state of Texas is just to ban all lobbying
in Austin. Could we consider doing that?
Speaker 31 (53:18):
I wish we would, Jimmy. I mean, actually, it's been
a priority for many years with the Republican Party state
as well as Harris County Republican Party and our Republican
elected officials, but we just can't seem to get it done.
You know, our governments pay millions and millions of dollars
(53:42):
to lobby us to go lobby for things that are
not necessarily h you know, in favor of the taxpayer
or the voters. Uh. And we see that particularly with
Harris County and Lena Hidalgo.
Speaker 3 (53:57):
Yeah, what kind of things did does Selena hill Down
Doggo send lobbies to do? What are the things that
Harris Gunny is asking.
Speaker 31 (54:04):
For, Well, you name it. They have all their little
pet projects. You know, they've been opposed to bail re form.
You know, they don't like the fact that the state
keeps trying to shut down them raising our tax rate arbitrarily.
(54:26):
You know, you can look at the last session that
they had and when we were fighting to get the
elections after that horrible election cycle in twenty twenty two
when they didn't have paper ballots, We fought really hard
to return the elections to the county clerk versus a
(54:47):
bureaucrat election administrator. They use lobbyists for that, and you know,
quite frankly, Jimmy, it's hard to tell what they're spending
their money with lobbyists for transparent there there's no accountability.
You can't Commissioner Ramsey can anything get the information.
Speaker 3 (55:08):
Yeah, it's pretty pretty bad, isn't it when you when
you're serving on the Commissioner's Court and you still can't
get access to the basic information you need to do
your job. They're spending somewhere in the neighborhood of five
million dollars in all this, and and you brought up transparency.
My thought is that probably what they're spending the money
on is to try to prevent things like transparency from happening.
(55:29):
They don't want us to know what they're spending the
rest of.
Speaker 31 (55:31):
Their money on, No, they don't. They they want to
be able to cover up their little pet you know,
their pet projects. You know, it's it's all about these
social programs. It's not about the basic function of Harris
County government, and that's the safety of our citizens. Uh safety,
(55:55):
health and welfare and safety should be first. And the
fact that you know, Lena didn't want to pay the
commissioner or pay the constables a pay raise just says
it all. And she has the audacity and we've all
heard her say it like, oh, she really was for
(56:16):
the deputy. She said that the last election cycle when
she ran that she was supporting law and order. And
you know, I was raised to believe and told you
know your actions speak louder than words and the voters
need to remember it. November twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (56:35):

they spent five point five million dollars of your money

One of the worst parts of all of this is
there's almost zero accountability for those funds.
Speaker 31 (59:19):

Really, I'll tell you what. Give me one million, and
I'll be glad to spell it out for you in
terms that are easy for you to understand. That's pretty funny. Actually,
I think it's more than just trying to figure out.
They kind of know that why they lost men. Now
they're trying to figure out how they can talk to
men because evidently they heard no manly men left in

the Democrat Party to give them any direction like that.
So here is some discussion on the Democrats and Jesse

The Democrat process. Saying the right thing doesn't matter. It's
about doing the right thing. Democrats need to figure out
what the right thing is and then do it instead
of trying to trick men into believing they're doing the
right thing for the wrong reasons. Remember when they couldn't
define what a woman was. Now they're trying to define

what a man is. It's like an anthropologist studying the

(01:08:54):
be more scattered than we originally thought. Does that mean
that some of us might not see them.
Speaker 23 (01:08:58):
It's potential that there might be some areas that might
just see a light shower stuff. But we've got a
lot of energy coming in from the south end, from
the west, and we've been watching these storms build off
to the southwest, and over the last hour they've really
built out across Wharton County and they're moving towards the
kind of north northeast, and within about the last half
hour really kind of saw cell kind of blow up
(01:09:19):
just west of downtown Bunker Hill Village back towards Westwick
West Chase. We've got to sell kind of that's kind
of developed here over about the last half hour, producing
some pretty good rainfall. So that's well out ahead of
what is the main energy that's coming from the west
to the south so showers and storms are going to
be with us here as we have through the morning
into the afternoon, and any storm that we do see
today would have the potential for some heavy downpours with
(01:09:42):
some of those storms. Temperatures today into the low to
mid eighties, chance for a few storms overnight tonight, tomorrow,
the chance for storms mainly later on in the afternoon
and evening hours as we approach ninety degrees, and then
just a slight chance of storms Friday, and just a
stray storm expected over the weekend as we'll start to
see kind of a drier trend of the weather.

Six fifty three. Now here in Houston's morning news. All right,
the FBI is going to reopen some cases here. The
Justice Department wants to know who let the cocaine at
the White House. They want to know a couple of
other things too. Here's Fox correspondent David Spunts on the
three different cases the FBI is going to look into.
Speaker 54 (01:13:03):
This news coming from Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino. Let's
see what he posted over the weekend on social media.
Then I'll take you through each of the cases. He said,
we made the decision to either reopen or push additional
resources and investigative attention to these cases. The cases are
the DC pipe bombing investigation, the cocaine discovery at the
prior administration's White House, and the leak of the Supreme
(01:13:24):
Court Dobbs case.
Speaker 1 (01:13:25):
That's the case overturning Roe v. Wade.
Speaker 54 (01:13:27):
I received requested briefings on these cases weekly, and.
Speaker 1 (01:13:30):
We are making progress. Let's start with a pipe bomber.
Speaker 54 (01:13:34):
The Bureau continues to analyze video of a mass suspect
planting a pipe bomb near the bench outside both the
DNC and RNC headquarters on January fifth, twenty twenty one,
the night before the attack on the US Capital. Luckily,
no one was injured and the bombs did not detonate.
The second investigation, Dana Bongino and Director Cash Pttel want
to look into the cocaine found at the White House
(01:13:56):
in July twenty twenty three. It was found in a
locker of the US wing of the White House in
a publicly traveled area where tours go by, but the
Secret Service never identified a suspect. Finally, the third case
the leak of the Supreme Court draft overturning Roe v.
Wade in the spring of twenty twenty two. This is
a big one. Politico received a draft copy and published
(01:14:18):
it weeks before the Supreme Court overturned the federal right
to abortion. As to how the reporters received it, we
still don't know the Supreme Court data and build it
an internal investigation through the Marshal of the Court, but
they never were able to publish any information or never
were able to find it, or they did find it.
We just don't know who they are. But now the
(01:14:38):
FBI is taking a look.
Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
Okay, so the FBI wants to know about the Supreme
Court league interesting. Don't you think the Supreme Court figured
that one out? Yeah? I think they probably did what
they did about it, though who knows if they did
anything about it. That's the problem all right. Time for

Speaker 15 (01:20:47):
The bill makes it clear that in Texas, sex is
defined by biology, not ideology. Along with that it helps
ensure that women's rights are protected by clearly defining what
a woman is and what a woman is not.
Speaker 6 (01:20:58):
That bill is headed to Governor Greg Gabbott's desk. Lawmakers
are still working on property tax reform, but critics want
to see property taxes done away with completely. James Quintero
at the Texas Public Policy Foundation says, that's got to
start at the local level.
Speaker 16 (01:21:14):
Encourage your officials to not only spend less, but to
adopt a no new revenue tax rate. Until we get
local officials to exercise fiscal discipline, it's going to be
much harder at the legislative level to eliminate property taxing.
Speaker 6 (01:21:30):
And this is your reminder that Harris County Judge Lena

how long it's gonna last though, KA probably not long.
Speaker 23 (01:26:44):
It certainly is. It kind of spired up well out
ahead of the two main sources of energy that are
headed our way. But you're right, some pretty good rain
falling from the Jersey Village area down towards Carverdale to
bunker Hill Village to Gulfton, and it's kind of slowly
drifting towards it north and northeast as well. And then
we've got a couple of isolated cells again out ahead
(01:27:05):
of the main energy across Fort Bend, one near Stafford
one near Nadville. But the main focus is the big
cluster of storms that's still back out across Wharton County,
and we have a cluster just east of the Austin area.
All that is moving towards the east, and so we're
going to see these showers and storms more and more here,
I think as we head through the morning, especially late
morning and into the afternoon, where the rank could be
(01:27:26):
very heavy at times with some of these storms. Temperatures
today into the low to mid eighties, widely scattered showers

Today seven twenty two. Now here on Houston's morning news.
All right, here's a little something that's starting to pick
up steam, and I'm glad to see it pick up
steam because it's high time that it happened, and that
is the defunding of NPR, well, not necessarily the defunding.
Here's the thing that we found out about NPR, and
(01:30:33):
it shows you how smart liberal politicians can be, because
that's generally who supports National Public Radio, because just about
everybody that works at MPR, as we've found out many
times from testimony, is a Democrat registered Democrat, but they're
all liberal, and that's the way they present their information.
(01:30:53):
National public Radio was never meant to be political, or
it just wasn't. It was meant to be both sides
of an issue, to inform the public, to give them
information they otherwise would not supposedly get from commercial radio.
But at the end of the day, it's pretty clear
that you're more likely to get accurate information in both
(01:31:16):
sides of a story from commercial radio than you are
from national public radio. It's a propaganda tool for the left.
So we have finally gotten to the point now. Although
I will say they're funded for the next couple of years,
they're not going to go way tomorrow even if they
cut off the funding for MPR, because they're smart enough
to work it that way. But there's a guy right
(01:31:36):
here in Texas Representative Here in Texas Representative Brandon Gill,
who is on the warpath to see this happen. To
get the funding away from National Public Radio. If they're
going to survive, they're at some point they're going to
have to survive as a commercial entity. Here is Brandon
Gill talking about the demise or what he hopes will
(01:32:00):
soon be the demise of MBR.
Speaker 55 (01:32:02):
What you hear from Catherine Maher today is the last
dying whimper of an antiquated organization that's about to have
their corporate welfare pulled away from them. The American people
are sick of their tax dollars funding radical left, wildly
Marxist news outlets who hate the very things that this
country was built on.
Speaker 24 (01:32:23):
During that hearing, I had.
Speaker 55 (01:32:24):
The chance to ask her, do you believe that, for instance,
America is addicted to white supremacy?
Speaker 24 (01:32:29):
Shaid, Well, you know I didn't really say that.
Speaker 55 (01:32:31):
Yes, you did actually say that these people are insane
and we shouldn't be giving them our tax dollars.
Speaker 24 (01:32:36):
We're finally going to stop that.
Speaker 55 (01:32:38):
I'm so so glad that we have a President who
is taking this seriously. This is something that Republicans have

doing it.

propaganda you would expect in communists China or in North Korea.
We don't need that here in the United States. We
don't need state sponsored media. Remember this is the same
outlet that deliberately chose not to cover the Hunter Biden
laptop scandal, saying in their own words that it was
(01:33:35):
nothing more than a distraction. In their own words, the
vast majority of the people who work at NPR are Democrats.
They routinely bash Republicans and run cover for the other
side of the aisle, and then they have the gall
to come to us and ask us to give them
more and more taxpayer dollars every single year.
Speaker 24 (01:33:54):
You know we're going to end this, but they've set
this up in.
Speaker 55 (01:33:58):
A way to make it as difficult as possible for Congress.
We fund in PR two years in advance. For instance,
we end up funding local radio stations and TV stations
that are required to purchase inpr's content.
Speaker 24 (01:34:10):
But we're done with it. We've had enough of it.
Speaker 3 (01:34:12):
Wow. Okay, strong words. I hope he's right about that.
By the way, if you're curious about this guy, he's
thirty one years old, born in New Mexico, raised on
a ranch here in Texas. Graduated from Dartmouth Sharp obviously
bachelor's degree in history and economics. He was a head
of brief career as an investment banker. He founded the
online newspaper, The DC Inquirer in twenty eighteen, and he
(01:34:37):
is now a representative from the twenty sixth Congressional district
here in Texas. Seven twenty six It is time to
take a look at your money. By the way, we
will get to that redistricting story coming up at seven p.
Fifty two, but first let's check in with the Bloomberg, folks,
and take a look at your money and Jimmy. Apple

the media's best efforts, You're not afraid of Trump's tariffs
they spend five million of your tax dollars to lobby

about your child's cell phone details in the minutes they head. First,
we're checking out that drive once again. Here's sky Mike.
Speaker 5 (01:36:18):
All right, rain starting to scutch us up on the Katie.
We were doing so nice, but no, now you got

it's following suit with breaks from fourteen sixty four.

Cliff Saunders.
Speaker 6 (01:37:13):
Hey you, Jimmy. It is seven thirty one on KTRH.
Our top story this hour, any hosts, Yeah, that was
Harris County Judge Lena Hedalgo and Rodney Ellis voting against
cop pay raises last week, claiming the county couldn't afford it.
But did you know the county was spending as much
as five and a half million dollars on lobbying.
Speaker 31 (01:37:36):
This has been an issue with conservatives for many years
and have complained about how these funds are spent. The
only ones who get wealthy on are the lobbyists.
Speaker 6 (01:37:47):
Harris County GOPHR Cindy Siegel says, since state lawmakers failed
to ban taxpayer funded lobbying this session, it's up to you,
the voter, to kick out county officials who sign off
on this kind of stuff. Meantime, another Republican priority bill
to require proof of citizenship from all Texas voters has
died and missed a House deadline last night to give
(01:38:09):
initial approval toll legislation passed by the Senate.
Speaker 3 (01:38:12):
A trial is.
Speaker 6 (01:38:13):
UNDERWAYNL Passo over redistricting. Rat Johnson with the Texans says
Democrats are claiming the Hispanic vote has been diluted and
they want new districts in Dallas and here in Houston too.
Speaker 14 (01:38:25):
One of the ones they note specifically is CD thirty eight,
which is held by Leslie Hunts, which is a new
district one of the districts that Texas gained.
Speaker 7 (01:38:33):
He says.
Speaker 6 (01:38:34):
The Dems are also refusing to acknowledge all of the
gains Republicans made with Hispanic voters. Even if the case
goes to the Texas Supreme Court, expect the maps to
remain the same seven thirty three. So much for the
mainstream media scaring you over Tariff's. Consumer confidence shot up
twelve points last month that blew away expectations, and the
(01:38:55):
mainstream media won't like this either.
Speaker 7 (01:38:57):
New numbers from Rasmussen the.
Speaker 32 (01:38:59):
Majority of Americans view our country as heading on the
right track under President Trump.
Speaker 6 (01:39:05):
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt on Fox it's the
first time in twenty years. At half the country believes
we're on the right track. Wall Street is happy with
how things are going. The Dow gain seven hundred and
forty points yesterday. Overnight trading is flat across the board.
Coming up on seven thirty four, President Trump is making
Canada an offer.
Speaker 7 (01:39:25):
It might not be able to refuse.
Speaker 6 (01:39:27):
Join US as the fifty first state, and you can
get protection under the Golden Dome Missile Defense System for free.
Trump posted a truth Social that the Canadians are considering
the proposal, but the Trump Vladimir Putin feud is escalating
as the president considers new sanctions on Russia. President Trump's
Russian president Vladimir Putin is playing with fire, writing in
(01:39:50):
a truth social post, if it weren't for me, lots
of really bad things would have already happened to Russia.
It follows the President's harsh assessment of Putin over the
weekend and calling the Russian leader absolutely crazy after large
scale air strikes targeted Ukrainian cities. Jared Halpern reporting there
here at Home at seven thirty four, Katie has been
(01:40:11):
named a top ten city for entrepreneurs by Go Daddy
in that.
Speaker 33 (01:40:15):
We found that there are suburbs in various places throughout
the country that are performing as strong, if not stronger,
than large cities.
Speaker 6 (01:40:23):
Greg Ftimo with GoDaddy says that the rankings were based
on looking at some twenty million online businesses. But while
Katie does well, Houston does not when it comes to
those struggling to pay the bills.
Speaker 34 (01:40:37):
That's according to a report from the personal finance site
wallet hub, saying it did a deep analysis of the
one hundred largest cities looking at credit reports, bankruptcies, and
distressed debt online searches.
Speaker 35 (01:40:49):
And Houston is number one in financial distress because it
does have a high share of people with accounts in
financial distress.
Speaker 34 (01:40:56):
Wallet Hub analyst Chip Lupo says a big reason is

Speaker 6 (01:41:07):
We are learning more about how harmful the COVID shots
really were. Former CDC director Robert Redfield tells Neumax that
twenty percent of the patients he treats today for long
COVID got it from the vaccines. Are you surprised there
haven't been class action lawsuits.
Speaker 36 (01:41:24):
Well there should be, but right now, as you know
that they've been immune to lawsuits, that needs to be
that needs to be changed.
Speaker 6 (01:41:32):
As of now, those companies are protected by the Public
Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act. We also know that the
Biden administration delayed telling you about vaccine risks, which remain high.
According to Houston doctor Mary Kelly Boden, right.
Speaker 37 (01:41:47):
Now, only about twenty three percent of America since the
latest version of the shot. But I think they're going
to say, oh, you're high risk and try to increase
that uptake.
Speaker 6 (01:41:58):
A panel of FDA advisors to keep the current booster
formula for the coming fall. The committee's advice isn't finding,
but the FDA is likely to follow the recommendation. On Tuesday,
the CDC said it is no longer recommending the COVID
vaccine for healthy kids or pregnant women. It's now seven
thirty six. Good news, bad news for SpaceX on its
(01:42:19):
Starship test launch. The good news is the launch was successful.
But here's the bad news.
Speaker 12 (01:42:25):
We have essentially lost attitude control on the ship at
this point, and it was.
Speaker 6 (01:42:29):
More than that the rocket exploded somewhere over the Indian Ocean.
The two previous test flights exploded over the Atlantic. Speaking
of explosions, the Astros offense exploded. Christian Walker went yard
josel two. They did so twice. Astros eleven Athletics won.
That was your final and pregame for the series finale

and the Houston Morning News team.
Speaker 1 (01:43:08):
Not every day game.
Speaker 3 (01:43:09):
You're a love song to a cell phone seven thirty
eight our time here on Houston's Morning News. Cell phones.
There was a bill about did you know this? There
was a bill that passed the Texas State legislature regarding
cell phones and schools. Huh, why didn't he spend them?
I don't think a lot of us knew about that.
(01:43:30):
Several other things more than just school vouchers. Wasn't the
only thing that got through the Texas State legislature. Here's
a report from KPRC two, our television partner, on some
of the other things that are going to go in
front of the governor for his signature.
Speaker 56 (01:43:46):
Lawmakers are sending several bills to the Governor's desk, impacting
students across the state. As the Harris County Medical Examiner's
Office says, the death of fourteen year old land in
Peyton remains undetermined, Lawmakers are working to make sure automatic
external defibrillators are working properly.
Speaker 57 (01:44:03):
A function in AED machine was not available until first
responders arrived, which unfortunately.
Speaker 1 (01:44:11):
Was too late.
Speaker 57 (01:44:14):
His tragic passing highlighted a critical gap in safety measures
across Texas schools.
Speaker 56 (01:44:20):
Another school bill allowing prayers back in the classroom say
A Bill eleven says prayer time cannot replace instructional time,
but school boards could allow school administrators to set time
aside for students to pray or read any religious texts
of their choosing. Gobston's Maze Middleton wrote the bill.
Speaker 42 (01:44:38):
In Texas, our schools are not God free zones. This
bill outlines a framework that school districts may use if
they vote to allow a period of prayer and Bible
reading or other religious texts.
Speaker 56 (01:44:49):
The bill requires parental consents, and students who don't consents
cannot be around other students who are either praying or
reading a religious text. A Bonents say, if signed into law,
this opens this states, it's lawsuits. Another bill that could
change what happens in the classroom isn't terribly new, banning
cell phones during instructional times. Several school districts in our
(01:45:10):
area have something similar, like HISD sci fi ID and
Katie Dat's an Interfew.
Speaker 52 (01:45:16):
I think that the policy neglects the parent's ability to
decide what's best for their child. It cuts off communication
in a way that I think most people are a
bit nervous about, or a lot of Maybe not most,
but a lot of parents are nervous about them.
Speaker 56 (01:45:32):
In the last two years, at least eight states have
issued similar cell phone banned policies. In this legislation has
bipartisan support. In Austin, we are waiting to see if
the governor signs it or any of the other bills.
Speaker 3 (01:45:44):
All right, so still up to the governor to signed
those bills, including the cell phone bill. That's an interesting one.
I think that that the woman you heard speaks for
a lot of moms. And I don't mean to make
this a sexist story, but I think the moms are
the most worried about being able to communicate with their
school child at any time during the school day. They
(01:46:05):
want the ability to be able to do that, and
you can think at least in part school shootings and
some of the other things that have happened that have
made them very concerned about security issues. But they do
remain a major distraction the kids learning and for kids,
you know, not being able to cheat by using their
(01:46:26):
cell phones a test time, although most of them will
not allow them to use a cell phone during test time,
a lot of these kids, you know, a lot of
these schools, they just they have not done a very
good job of preventing cell phones from being in the classroom.
They are a distraction. At the very least, they're a distraction.
Seven forty time for traffic and weather together skybikes here. Hey,
(01:46:47):
it's a good thing. We got Ken boone standing by
with a real radar, my little pocket radar the best
I can see. We've got some showers affecting us on
the Southwest Freeway. Look at that smash now all the
way back from ninety and you lose twenty one minutes
up this way North Freeway. Awfully thick and spring from
nineteen sixty down Katie Freeway between the belt and the Loop.
Speaker 5 (01:47:06):
That's a bit of a smudge. And Sean from pear
Lance checking out to eighty.
Speaker 12 (01:47:10):
Eight and sky Mike to eighty eight north. We're pitting
breaks south of the Beltway and looks pretty jammed for.
Speaker 4 (01:47:16):
A while there we are up to the Loop. It's
that darn rain. All right. Let's head for Clayton from
Splendora on the working side.
Speaker 22 (01:47:24):
He is northbound Beltway right before you go over the
ship Channel bridge the elane.
Speaker 5 (01:47:34):
All right, we have matching suckage now southbound. We just
cleared that wreck that we got from Debbie from the
hard Work.
Speaker 4 (01:47:39):
In east Side.
Speaker 3 (01:47:40):
I have a good one, yeah, I just like listening
to her.
Speaker 5 (01:47:42):
She sounds like Pecompie Robert from Crosby's out on two ninety.
He came all the way across a real a little
thick at thirty fourth.
Speaker 14 (01:47:49):
Morning, sky like northwest side of town.
Speaker 1 (01:47:52):
Goodiat for blue water seafood.
Speaker 4 (01:47:54):
No more good Burgers.
Speaker 5 (01:47:55):
And Cindy from the Woodlands rung in on my Facebook
and she says Burger's humble good stuff. Skymike on a
generator supercenter dot Com traffic centers still.
Speaker 3 (01:48:04):
Have to drive to New trump Berger here in town.
Speaker 8 (01:48:06):
Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:48:06):
I think we're we're gonna have to do a little
field trip on that one. I think from our ktr
H Generator super Center twenty four hour weather Center, Terry's
off today. Ken Boon is in for her. Yeah. Look
it out my window right next to the six to
ten little bit. It looks like nighttime. It's so dark
out there right now. Ken.
Speaker 23 (01:48:22):
Yeah, we are certainly getting more and more of these
kind of little cells that are developing on the west, southwest,
and south side of the Houston area. We've got one
to the north near Green's Point, just north of that,
right along Interstate forty five, and just to the west
of that, we've got a couple of just south of
downtown as well. The main crux of the energy we're
moving into southern Fort Bend and across central and southern
(01:48:45):
Bassouria County. But more and more of those little isolated
storms are starting to form in front of that, So
I think we're going to start to see more and
more of that kind of fill in here. So here,
as we head through our mid and late morning and
into the afternoon, we're going to continue to see more
and more of the shower thunderstorm activity. And with all
those storms there is going to be the potential because
they're very slow moving for some very heavy downpours. As
(01:49:05):
we head through the day today, temperatures into the low
to mid eighties. We'll keep a slight chance of showers
and storms in during the overnight hours Tonight, low seventies. Tomorrow,
it looks like late day storms, late afternoon evening showers
and storms upper eighties to near ninety. Slight chance for
those afternoon and evening storms on Friday, high temperatures in
the mid eighties. That as we'll get into the weekend,
just a stray excuse me, late day shower storm of
(01:49:27):
the forecast. Better chance Sunday than Saturday.
Speaker 1 (01:49:30):
Heis in the upper eighties to near ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:49:32):
Right now seventy four at your official severe weather station,

Speaker 2 (01:49:40):
This is Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New
South Windows Solutions.
Speaker 3 (01:49:45):
Now we're ready for our guest. Brad Johnson, senior reporter
at the TEXA will join us in just a couple
of minutes that we're going to talk about this lawsuit
suing the state over redistricting maps. The plane is now
alleging that Hispanic voting power is the with these new maps.
Or that story coming up next, But first, listen to
traffic and weather together. Start with you, Skymake Let's go
(01:50:06):
to your ast Sam. We've got cleared the reck southbound
on the toll bridge.
Speaker 4 (01:50:10):
That's gone.
Speaker 5 (01:50:10):
It's a little sponged up still from I. In fact,
go ahead and stay the course if you're southbound on
the toll bridge because six ten the seconds just started,
but nordbound got a stalled eighteen wheeler. I'm Skymike and
the Generator Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center from.
Speaker 3 (01:50:24):
Our KTRH Generator Supercenter, twenty four hour weather center, mostly
Connie with some scattered midday, afternoon and midday and afternoon
showers and storms. I should say, although we are getting
some stormy weather and some spots right now, eighty four
for the high today. Current temperature is seventy four at
your official severe weather station, News Radio seven forty k TRH.
(01:50:48):
Let's get you caught up in some of our top
trending stories this morning. Here's clipp Thank you Jimmy.
Speaker 6 (01:50:53):
President Trump's big beautiful bills getting called out. You're not
going to believe who's doing the calling out. Alabama Senator
Tommy Chibraville announces a run for governor in that state
next year, and Jimmy. A family in Kentucky was woken
up last week by a black bear sitting on its
kitchen stove.
Speaker 7 (01:51:11):
According to officials, the little guy got.
Speaker 6 (01:51:14):
Into an attic and fell through the ceiling and was
as scared as the as the humans were.
Speaker 3 (01:51:19):
I'm sure he was, but he's probably waiting on the
stove looking for a free meal.
Speaker 42 (01:51:21):
You know.
Speaker 6 (01:51:22):
He was pretty much at the latest news anytime at
KTRH dot com.
Speaker 7 (01:51:25):
Our next updates at eight o'clock.
Speaker 3 (01:51:27):
I listen usually on the wedwork and on the way
home for every day.
Speaker 1 (01:51:31):
I can't be late, so I listen to traffic for
every one for the weather forecast used Radio seven KTRH.
Speaker 3 (01:51:40):
Yeah, they're constantly dragging the line for voting. And the
reason why he is because it's whatever power. You know,
parties in power, you get the ability to redraw the map,
and when you redraw the map, you generally try to
redraw it to your advantage. Usually what we're talking about
is democrats versus Republicans. But in this particular lawsuit where
(01:52:01):
jury trial, by the way, we'll be involved in this.
We're talking about the plans alleging it's not Democrats or Republicans,
it's Hispanic voting power that spend eluted. Brad Johnson joined
us seeing a reporter at the Texan. That's kind of unusual,
don't you think, Brad.
Speaker 14 (01:52:17):
Well, while it is talking about specifically Hispanic voting power,
it is a proxy fight between Republicans and Democrats. So
you know, every time the maps are redrawn, as you said,
we see lawsuits filed and usually it takes most of
the next decade to result them.
Speaker 3 (01:52:34):
That's so true.
Speaker 14 (01:52:34):
We are here, we are with one more lawsuits and
this may be the last one, although not Gonwood.
Speaker 3 (01:52:40):
We'll see.
Speaker 14 (01:52:41):
But yeah, the argument is from groups like LULAC and
other progressive groups that state Republicans intentionally cracked communities of interest,
specifically Hispanics in Dallas and Houston. They're arguing that there
should be at least one more Hispanic majority congressional district
(01:53:02):
in each of those places, along with state legislative districts
as well.
Speaker 3 (01:53:06):
Okay, are they bringing the suit because the assumption is
is that that's how those Hispanics will vote is for Democrats.
Speaker 14 (01:53:14):
Yeah, exactly, And you know, obviously after what happened last
last cycle, that's something. The fact that Hispanics are shifting
towards Republicans is something but probably have to contend with
and they'll.
Speaker 3 (01:53:25):
Have to argue.
Speaker 14 (01:53:27):
Although when they first filed this lawsuit, the Hispanic shift
hadn't happened yet. So it's an interesting situation where you know,
they're arguing facts from you know, four years ago versus
what we're seeing now. And I'm not sure how it's
going to play out, but I don't think it's going
to turn out too well.
Speaker 3 (01:53:45):
So here's the other thing strikes me about this, Brad Johnson,
and that is that, at least here in the Houston
metro the Hispanics are the majority. There are more Hispanics
than there are Caucasians at this particular point in time.
So it's very unusual, is it not to try to
bring a lawsuit involving the majority against the minority.
Speaker 14 (01:54:07):
Well, it's not just Houston, it's it's the state of
entire state. Right last year something, Yeah, Hispanic majority was established.
Now with federal law, it's not really statistical minorities. It's
racial minorities, as you know, constitute under federal law, and
so I think there's a bit of a different twist there,
(01:54:28):
But you're right. I mean, that's another thing we'll have
to contend with.
Speaker 19 (01:54:31):
This is not.
Speaker 14 (01:54:33):
This is not a majority white state anymore, and so
what exactly constitutes a majority as we're talking, you know,
the federal redistricting law. So I think there's a lot
of stuff that's about to change in the way we
think about, especially in Texas, the way we think about this.
Speaker 3 (01:54:51):
I think you're probably right. This could this could end
up blowing up in their in their faces in a
very big way. We'll have to wait and see what happens.
Brad Johnson, thank you, appreciate that that senior reporter at
the Texan Brad Johnson, all right, to be safe from
the storms today. I'll have a great day. We'll see
you tomorrow morning, bright and early, starting at five am.
Hope to see you this afternoon four on Am nine
fifty KPRC.
