Good morning, five AM. As we get started on this
Thursday edition of Houston's Morning News, I'm Jimmy Barrett. Among
our top stories of this half hour, anti Israel demonstrators
get arrested at Columbia. Young Americans are voting Republican and
coming up at five to eight, a bill to write
off your auto loan instrumans interest payments. There we go. First, though,
let's check out that drive sky Mike you here, I'm
(00:39):

Speaker 2 (00:40):
One oh five right here too.
Speaker 5 (00:42):
This is eastbound the Conroe area around Walden Road, closer
to Montgomery and the boy they had a rough accident
there earlier.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
It looks like this is.
Speaker 5 (00:50):
All out of the way and you're good to go
both ways between Montgomery and forty five if you're headed
this way, oh the other way. One oh five actually
moving through cutt and shoots uprisingly this morning, and we've

Here's Cliff Slanders.
Speaker 6 (01:30):
Hey you, Jimmy. Good morning everybody.
Speaker 7 (01:31):
Five OHO one on KTRH, our top story this hour.
Speaker 6 (01:40):
Yeah, they're back.
Speaker 7 (01:41):
The anti Israel protesters at Columbia University masked, of course,
storming the campus library. Dozens arrested to security officers were injured.
The rioters may be the exception and not the rule, though,
According to new data, young Americans are overwhelmingly Republican these
days and refusing to look back. We asked pulling guru
(02:03):
Robert Kahally to confirm it.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
We found that to be true.
Speaker 8 (02:07):
The men are laying more Republican than the women, leading
Democrats as far as raw numbers. Yeah, we see that continuing.
Speaker 9 (02:14):
It, which is great, but will it continue in next
year's midterms.
Speaker 8 (02:19):
I really think from the numbers I've seen, if they
get rid of the tax on tips and solid security
and overtime, I think the Republicans are going to excel
at the midterms if that happens.
Speaker 9 (02:29):
Some big moves, but still a big if. Jeff Biggs,
News Radio, seun and forty K Tieries, thank you, Jeff.
And then there are the mainstream media games. The liberal
Washington Post wins a Pulitzer Prize for their Trump assassination
coverage or the attempt on his life, I should say
they claimed he was quote removed for loud noises.
Speaker 7 (02:50):
Breonna Lyman at The Federalist says this is another example
of a mainstream media fail that is a.
Speaker 10 (02:55):
Slippery slope that we see where all these institutions of
Pulitzer Prize are the White House corus On Association's Center right.
All of them are just puppets for the larger propaganda
apparatus that sees the democratic machine.
Speaker 7 (03:06):
She says, journalism has just become an ideological agenda five
to ZHO three Closer at to home, Texas Governor Greg
Abbott makes another push for bail reform activist.
Speaker 11 (03:16):
Judges are protecting dangerous criminals instead of the innocent Texans
that those criminals.
Speaker 7 (03:23):
Harm, Abbott, once again calling out House Democrats. Meantime, a
man wearing a bullet proof vested helmet and carrying a
rifle was shot by HPD after a short chase on
the Southwest Side. This started as a traffic stop. Four
officers wound up opening fire. The bad guy was hit
but survived because of the vest. Newpalling from the Liberal
(03:44):
University of Texas shows that while President Trump has high
approval ratings when it comes to the border, he's lagging
on the economy.
Speaker 12 (03:51):
This is expected because Trump is playing the economic long game.
Speaker 13 (03:54):
I think he's trying to correct some long term problems
that we've seen over the last few decades, and I
hope that he gets it sorted out very quickly.
Speaker 12 (04:03):
Rn C Committee man doctor Robin Armstrong says this poll
also shows that Ken Paxton has a strong advantage in
his race with Senator Cornyn.
Speaker 13 (04:10):
He's come a conservative icon nationally and in the state
of Texas as well. Paxton is generally pretty popular amongst
conservatives and Republicans.
Speaker 12 (04:18):
Armstrong noted that this is still early and these numbers
will likely change closer to the midterms. Ethan Buchanan News
Radio seven forty KTRH.
Speaker 6 (04:26):
It's five oh four.
Speaker 7 (04:26):
President Trump is expected to announce a trade deal with
the UK this morning.
Speaker 14 (04:30):
We've been getting ripped off by these countries, including our
so called allies. We have had our jobs taken from us,
We've had our technology stolen from US. China cheats every
day of the week and twice on Sundays, and now
you have a president who is holding them to account
and is getting deals.
Speaker 7 (04:45):
Missouri Senator Josh Hally the announcement at nine o'clock our time.
Even though trade talks with China are set for this weekend,
President Trump says he has no plans to back off
on tariffs anytime soon.
Speaker 15 (04:57):
We were losing with China on trade at trillion dollars
year more, actually one point in one. But let's say
a Trillian, you know what we're losing now? Nothing that's
not bad.
Speaker 7 (05:07):
Down Futures are up three hundred and fifty five points
as of the moment, and this is despite rising tensions
between two nuclear powers, India and Pakistan.
Speaker 16 (05:16):
President Trump is decrying India and pakistan slide towards war
in the aftermath of Indian air strikes across Kashmir and Punjab.
In an exclusive interview, India's ambassador and Washington tells Fox
News his government now wants to de escalate. He insists
India's strikes were not an act of war, as Pakistan claims,
but retaliation. Last month's terrorists killed twenty six civilians in
(05:39):
Indian controlled Kashmir, a majority Muslim region. Twenty five of
the victims were Hindu tourists, that is.
Speaker 7 (05:47):
Jillian Turner reporting, as expected, the federal reserves did pat
on interest rates, citing too much uncertainty in the economy.
Financial Planet Richard Rosso expects the fed's ultra cautious approach
to continue.
Speaker 17 (06:00):
If these triffs do not prove inflationary, which I don't
think they're going to pan, we get some deals done,
then inflation will fall to where their target is and
they'll probably have one cut. But you got to remember
the market was looking at six or seven ray cuts
this year, and you're maybe going to get one or two.
Speaker 7 (06:15):
The fed's next meeting is in mid June five h

Speaker 4 (07:06):
I got a car note. You got a car note?
How good would it be if you didn't? If you
could deduct the interest you're paying on your car loan?
You know, there used to be time you used to
be able to do stuff like that. You st be
able to do it on your credit cards too. That
might be part of the problem why people got into
so much credit card debt, as you could deduct the interest,
(07:27):
and when they took that away, that was a big
that was a big deduction killer for a lot of folks.
Michigan Representative of course cars Hello. US Representative Bill Heizinga
has introduced legislation that would allow car and truck buyers
to deduct interest paid on their vehicle loans from their
income taxes if they're buying an American made car. This
(07:48):
is the proposal the President Trump made on the campaign
trail during his speech last year in Detroit. He's a Republican,
He's from Holland Township. It's the so called Maid in
America Motors Act, introduced at May seventh, saying it would
allow consumers deduct up to twenty five hundred dollars in
interest paid on a motor vehicle loan in a given year,
as long as the vehicle was assembled in the United States,
(08:11):
so it doesn't have to have all the parts made
in the United States, just has to be assembled here
in the United States twenty five hundred dollars cap on
that though, no deduction would be allowed for any vehicle
loan which is already granted a deduction, but the new
deduction would be available to taxpayers whether or not they
itemize on their annual tax forms. Okay, so you wouldn't
(08:32):
have to fill out the long form and go through
all that in order to do it. You could just
make the claim. Of course, this is something that could
potentially help automobile sales of US assembled vehicles. By the way,
more automakers making announcements that they are going to shift
operations to the United States. So there you go. I
(08:53):
think we have something like sixty thousand capacity for say, no,
what was the figure here, sixty. I think there's sixty
automotive manufacturing plants here here in the United States that
have additional capacity or are not being utilized. They could
be used in order to make American made vehicles, so
they would it wouldn't be that hard to shift operations
(09:13):
for some of these companies back from Mexico or some
other places where they assembling cars and trucks. Tax deduction
will be only available for vehicles weighing less than fourteen pounds,
which means, you know, like commercial use or personal use,
not for commercial trucks made in American Motors. Act would
be a win for American taxpayers, auto workers, and Michigan.
According to Representative Haazinga, who is represented at West Michigan
(09:37):
in the US House since twenty eleven and is considering
a run for US Senate next year. Well there you go,
nice little platform to run on, right if you're from Michigan. Yeah,
I got yeah, I got this bill passed. We'll see
if the bill passes five to ten. Time for traffic
and weather together.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
To trucks assembled in America. I believe some of them are.
I believe I think they are. I think they are cool.
Break for one in America and in the South scimon
oh even better. All right, Wexas, tex says we've got
East Loop six ten a.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Little bit of a problem.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
Basically, we're in the calm before the next shoe drops
in the woods.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Terry if I may have mixed my metaphors there, but to.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
East Loop sixteen, I do want you to watch out
this off the Ship Channel Bridge southbound Manchester.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
I really consider that's still part of the bridge.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
This is a stall over on the right side, and
it's right before you make that big curve and everybody
gets all crazy, either going to two twenty five or
going to golf gate. So watch out there and don't
let this little thing become a big thing. They did
clear that wreck one oh five at Walden Road over
on the on the Montgomery side, So that was pretty ugly.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
That looks to be out of the way. We're good
to go both.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
Ways between Montgomery and Conroe and six to ten. We're
not loopy yet at the squeeze going that way. We
look good for now getting over to Shepard, we're wide
open now.

You were done with heavy rain.
Speaker 19 (11:48):
There's a little bit of wet weather, but hardly anything
that's going to cause problems. And that's a nice little
change pace after all the rain the last couple of days.
Twenty percent chance of a shower thunderstorm today, and the
closer you are to the coast you're more likely to
run into that. We've got another little disturbance to the
south of us, so we may get a shower thunderstorm
later today. It's going to be a warm day in

and dry, load to mid eighties. Saturday, a thirty percent
chance of some thundershowers in the afternoon. It is cooler,
upper seventies to low eighties. Sundays. My day, not just
because it's Mother's Day, but it's a sunny, dry day
and temperatures are comfortable around eighty.

So yesterday Mayor John Wipmeyer rolled out out his budget
for the City of Houston. It is a seven billion
that's with the bee YEP seven billion dollar budget. But
the seven billion dollar budget is balanced. He does not
have a deficit. He doesn't. It does not rely on
COVID money or some other federal gimmick in order to

I consider that's still part of the bridge southbound. So
just watch out as you're merging onto Gulf Gate and
to get onto two twenty five that passing. A ramp
comes before that, so it should be are just back
for which to watch out.

Thank you, Jimmy.
Speaker 7 (14:57):
The White House is taking the deportation fight straight to
sanctuary not cities states. Houston City Council votes to continue
a DEI race based contracting program, and Jimmy, I saw
this story and thought of you. Amazon is forced to
refund a Kentucky mother after her eight year old son
ordered seventy thousand lollipops.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
Said he's got a lot of Bill's Fay City was
at one point, what five hundred million dollars in debt,
you know, that's that's how much of a gap there
was in the budget. And Chris Hollins over there, he's like,
who he'sa on the law. We can't we can't function. Yes,
you can, because, as it turns out, there there's plenty
(16:02):
of waste and fraud in the City of Houston, just
like there's plenty of wst and fraud in the federal government.
And Mayor Witmeyer pretty much said as much yesterday when
he un build his seven billion dollar budget.
Speaker 21 (16:13):
But let's talk about today.
Speaker 24 (16:16):
One of the concerns on the campaign trail was what
are you going to do about city finances?
Speaker 21 (16:21):
Much had been written about it.
Speaker 24 (16:25):
You know, we've had a structural deficit as long as
anyone can remember. Bobblingeer, who goes down is a great mayor,
got five hundred million dollars from Metro to help operate
city government.
Speaker 21 (16:41):
Most of it he put in police overtime.
Speaker 24 (16:45):
Coming forward, mayors, most of my friends I watched learn
from them. I've worked with seven mayors. They dealt with
structural deficit, first of all, without being candid and transparent,
which we're doing today. They sold properties to pay for operations.
(17:07):
They laid off over one thousand employees just a two
week notice. They use federal funding for operations one time
federal funding. So this is a special day for me
as a public servant. Here's our challenge that this budget
(17:31):
speaks to moves us in the right direction. If we
can get city government functioning, functioning at the level that
Houstonians expect and deserve, nothing will hold Houston BacT.
Speaker 25 (17:47):
You know, whats here with the city finances and a
budget deficit?
Speaker 26 (17:51):
Can what that looks?
Speaker 24 (17:53):
Say right now, there is no deficit as I talked
to you today, the twenty six is balanced and no difference.
Speaker 6 (18:01):
How did you guys accomplish that?
Speaker 24 (18:03):
Through efficiencies, eliminating waste, duplication, reorganization of city departments, cost
saving measures.
Speaker 21 (18:15):
How about the retirees.
Speaker 24 (18:18):
We very compassionately offered our retirees, the employees twenty eight
hundred that are eligible, a very compassionate incentive program. Certainly
when it comes to their healthcare costs, one thousand and
fifty that'll save us one hundred million dollars going forward
(18:39):
in twenty six.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
Imagine that one thousand and fifty employees who are eligible
for retirement, You get them off the payroll all of
a sudden, You've saved one hundred million dollars. Man that's
a lot of high paying jobs in the city Houston,
isn't it. It is. All he did was he consolidated.
(19:02):
He looked for fraud and waste, and he got rid
of waste, and all of a sudden, the deficit's gone.
He's also reprioritized sixty percent of nearly three billion in
general fund spending is going to go to police and fire,
because that's the number one issue in the city of Houston,
is public safety. All right, mister mayor, you're on the
(19:24):
right track here. You're definitely on the right track. Five
twenty six. Time to take a look at your money.
Speaker 27 (19:29):

you're thinking about. This you, know first of, all IT'S. Cbs,
okay they're doing a story about a family In. Connecticut
it's a family five, mom, dad three. Kids mom and
(27:30):
dad both. Work they're combined incoming somewhere around one hundred
and fifty thousand dollars a year and they have to
go to the food bank in order to be able
to maintain what is known in the business as food
sustainability in other, words in other, words to provide enough
food for the. Family they have to supplement what they
(27:51):
can buy at the grocery store with a food bank
because they just can't make it on one hundred and
fifty thousand dollars a. Year here is the report FROM.
Speaker 38 (27:58):
Cbs household income is roughly one fifty two people working full.
Speaker 25 (28:04):
Time SOMETIMES i work two.
Speaker 39 (28:06):
Jobs how can you make one hundred and fifty thousand
dollars and be food.
Speaker 25 (28:10):
Insecure that's not what you bring home after. Taxes you,
know we have mortgage. Insurance we've got one kid on
their way to, college one in. College something as small
as on a thousand dollars expense could throw things off.

Off for a, Decade kelsey has relied on help From
Connecticut Food, share the state's largest food Back she and

what are you. Thinking i'm, Thinking, okay you make one
hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Yere that's a pretty decent household.
Income but you already said after, Taxes, well you live
in The, northeast you live In, connecticut it's a relatively
(29:50):
high tax. State you have a mortgage and insurance on your,
home and that kind of stuff CAN i get is
a very expensive real estate market, State so you probably
have to spend a lot more in that. House so
you have to spend somewhere like Say, texas out a similar.
Home you got a kid in, college which you're obviously paying.
(30:10):
For they didn't earn a, scholarship they're not doing student.
Loans so, yeah, okay you put those things, together and
and the, question and of COURSE i think the idea
behind the. Stories, see in this, economy even people making
a decent living cat survive without a food. Bank they
would probably survive a lot better if they weren't living In,
connecticut if they were living somewhere where the cost of
(30:31):

Speaker 4 (34:33):
Two now here In houston's morning. News are you no?
Surprise Jerome powell and The fed are holding rates, steady
noting rising uncertainty and a risk of. Stagflation richard rosso
JOINS us certified financial. Planner they also said they're behind
the curve and they know it and they don't. Care
so what do you make of? That they.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
They HAVE tds tariff.
Speaker 17 (34:59):
Derangements. Uh the the hard data on the economy has been.
Good THE, pce which is THE fed that follows The,
fed it was a two point six percent last. Year
at this time it's two point three in flesh and
is headed. Down the economy is doing, well but THE
(35:22):
fed is notoriously and always behind the. Curve remember when
inflation was, Transitory oh, yeah that lit that little, Ditty oh,
Yeah and The fed didn't do anything to raise rates
when we had a physical bomb that went off and
then figured that this was no big. Deal they think
that the supply chain issue is going to be the
same that it was, then that that that's going to
(35:45):
happen now because of. Tariffs so again they're going to be.
Late but the one THING i, KNOW i Know President
trump gets really upset with. Twell he's been raging over
ON uh over and. Overnight and that's perfectly. Fine but
in some, Way powell is validating some of the stuff
that's coming out of The White, house like the economy is.
Strong you, know they should go along with that line
(36:08):
and stop having him worry about lowering. Rates the economy is,
Strong the hard data is. Good, yeah consumer sentiment is
at the Worst i've seen since The Great. Recession that's.
Ridiculous THE s AND p is down nearly four. Percent
you need you have a balanced portfolio of bonds and.
Stocks you're probably slightly up this, year but you would
think the whole world's coming to an. End, Obviously powell
(36:31):
believes the entire world is coming to an end as.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
Well. Well you, KNOW i think for your average, consumer
consumer confidence is low because we've been dealing with inflation
here for the last four. Years and inflation is going,
down but it's not going to reverse. Itself so we're
still dealing with the higher prices that we have been dealing.
With interest rates remain, high at least not historically, high
as you AND i both, know but the high compared
(36:55):
to what people got used. To so the real estate
market is stagnating. Somewhat so those, kinds those are the
kinds of things that worry.
Speaker 17 (37:02):
Consumers it, is AND i Know i've said it on
the show, before but then no president is going to
be able to come in and lower the prices you're
paying today for actual. Goods those, prices once companies raise,
them it's very difficult to lower. Them so you've got
to look at the rate of change on prices as
we move. Forward but the price you, know when you
(37:23):
look at insurance, prices things that have gone up, dramatically
it's very difficult for those to go. Down mortgage rates
is also they are also an element of supply and.
Demand we haven't had as much supply in the, market
and you know those will eventually. Moderate the one THING
i will say if you're, investor it's nice to know
(37:46):
that you can actually get still close to four percent
on cash and safe. Investments that has actually helped. You
bonds are having.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
A really good, year so you got to keep.
Speaker 17 (37:56):
Perspective you, Know sky might not be may pay more
for his flatable snowman that's going to go on as
lawn this holiday. Season but The, FED i think is absolutely,
overreacting just like they underreacted and told us that inflation
was just, temporary even though everybody was paying close to
nine percent or more on all the goods that they
purchase and services that they.
Speaker 4 (38:18):
Use how much of a difference do you think it would,
Make richard rosso if if we make a big deal
supposedly there's could be a big announcement COMING i think
tomorrow regarding probably The Unety kingdom in a trade. Deal
if we start picking off some of these trade, deals
how much of a difference do you think that might?
Speaker 17 (38:33):
Bank, well it helps with it helps with animal, spirits
it helps with consumer. Sentiment maybe the whole world isn't
coming to an end that the mainstream media is talking,
about and that absolutely. Helps it adds a level of
certainty to the stock, market but it also adds a
level of certainty down to the. Consumer even if they're
(38:55):
paying higher, prices they'll feel there about the. Economy maybe
there are other deals that are. Happening so what that.
Does it helps with the soft, data the sentiment data
you're talking about right. Now you also have to keep
in mind something very, Important, jimmy some of this soft
data is influenced by. Politics, now these are, surveys, right
(39:18):
so keep this in.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
Mind where you are.
Speaker 17 (39:22):
On the political side is affecting These so this is
what concerns me about all these consumer sentiment market sentiment.
Data market sentiment is the worst that we have seen
since the financial, crisis and that's with THE s AND
p down barely four. Percent those two things don't match,
up which tells me that there is a lot of
politics that infiltrates this. Data now agree makes it increasingly.
(39:47):
Unreliable but, yes if we can get these trade, deals
and we can Get Scott besson out there to talk
more about, it because he's very intellectual and calming when
he's out, there that will eventually bring prices.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Down energy.
Speaker 17 (39:59):
Prices press is working will bring prices, down all.
Speaker 4 (40:02):

Speaker 4 (55:29):
Our polling update six twenty two is our Time here In.
Houston's boring news We're JOINED. By, robert k haley polster
and Founder Of, the drafalger group who's Been polling young
americans to kind of get their feeling about a whole variety,
of different topics including where They're, At politically robert welcome.
Speaker 2 (55:44):
To the show what? Have you found? Good have you what?
Speaker 4 (55:49):
HAVE you found i know that young men have been
trending more conservative for. Quite some time are women starting?
To follow them because there was a real disconnect between
young men and young women there. For a, while.
Speaker 49 (56:03):
You know what is interesting is, the young men the
number is so big that the average is bringing everybody
up because the men, plus the women the men are,
extra you know and we're talking about the difference between
Millennials and gen Z but gen z men are So
(56:23):
much pro republican that Even though gen Z, women trend
democrat They don't twin democrat as Much as gen Z,
men trend republican bringing all of gen zward leaning toward.
The conservative side now as Far as, supporting republicans.
Speaker 4 (56:39):
Now when you take a look at the, reasons behind
that by suspicion would, be it's, that You know the
democrats have had a war on men for, quite some
time at least on, a traditional male and they've done
their best to try to. DEVASCULIZE most men i wonder
if that's. Part of it what are some of the
reasons why they're running so? Much more conservative.
Speaker 49 (57:00):
That is certainly it and what we found is the
only thing Really keeping, GEN z, women i mean the
biggest Thing keeping.
Speaker 2 (57:08):
Gen z Women on the democrat.
Speaker 49 (57:10):
Side is abortion but that is abortional based on the.
State they live so if you live in a state
where abortion what, wasn't really changed it's, not.
Speaker 21 (57:22):
Very Restrictive.
Speaker 49 (57:24):
Then gen z women thinking of it less an issue
because they don't see it.
Speaker 2 (57:27):
Truly under threat but of, course you.
Speaker 49 (57:31):
Mean, give you example if You're a, gen z woman
you Live, in Suburban atlanta then georgia is a very
restrictive abortion law as compared with other metropolitan the states
that have, Big metropolitan areas so.
Speaker 2 (57:47):
Then abortion moves to a bigger.
Speaker 49 (57:49):
Issue with them but abortion is what's kind of kind
of anchoring, these women there because what we've also seen
is the opposition, to abortion has, especially of women much
more to do with their age than. Any other factor,
at that age it's still a significant is. A significant
issue now.
Speaker 4 (58:08):
If, you, found overall uh it used to be kind
Of like the, north is Liberal in the. South is
conservative is It Still a north south kind, of a
thing or is the young male conservativism Spreading in the
north as Well. As, the south.
Speaker 1 (58:23):
Yeah the young.
Speaker 49 (58:24):
The young male if you if you're old, Enough, to
remember uh it doesn't matter.
Speaker 21 (58:28):
How liberal The HOUSEHOLD.
Speaker 49 (58:30):
That alex p keaton is making his. Stand these days
the uh you know that young guy who was in
a liberal family in, THE eighties sitcom i. Mean it
was it's very much like even if nobody in the. Family,
a greets uh men and men ARE making, this i
mean and.
Speaker 42 (58:47):
You're, seeing it.
Speaker 10 (58:48):
Uh it is completely the pushback.
Speaker 49 (58:50):
On, everything they've seen and they kind Of like the
trump kind Of You Know trump dana white kind. Of,
TOUGH guy, uh i, Mean. You know joe mean like
when you look look at what these males are doing
and the difference between how they interact and, the women
interact it has everything to do with who these younger male's.
(59:10):
Role Models are and trump fits right into that kind of.
A role model from then, is you know kind of
moving back toward the tougher guy in a type versus
the millennial guys that were very much not kind of
you know more buying into some of the social pressure
(59:30):
to kind of.
Speaker 37 (59:32):
Me.
Speaker 4 (59:33):
Beta male interesting so macho. IS back in i knew.
It'd come back joe, is back, In, all right robert thanks.

spent on that but only twenty percent of it.

Seven twenty four Time here in. Houston's borning news it's
not that A Member of dustin borough's staff, has been
fired it's the reason why. They were fired joining us to.
Talk About It from texas scorecard has a big. Story
On It, BRANDON walton's yeah i was thinking it was
a NOTHING burger until i started Reading, your story, brandon
and well, oh my god he did did what explained
(01:35:01):
to our listeners what it is that who, this guy
is and who he's married to and.
Speaker 34 (01:35:06):
What.
Speaker 42 (01:35:06):
He Did.
Speaker 35 (01:35:08):
Yeah so dustin burrows This, week on monday actually dismissed
his general counsel, and policy director.
Speaker 4 (01:35:18):
A guy by The Name.
Speaker 35 (01:35:19):
Of jimmy skipton reportedly and this is, where you know
capital sources, come in, this you know allegedly put put.
That in Here but the obviously, he's not saying you know.
What what happened you wouldn't expect him to go into why.
He got fired but the reporting is is, that his
wife who is Our. Lobbyist in austin you know that
(01:35:41):
he was essentially maybe representing himself as two different members
and Chairs in the house pushing or pushing against different,
pieces of legislation Purporting To represent dustin burroughs, on these
matters but maybe is actually representing his. Wife's Lobby, interests.
Speaker 4 (01:36:04):
Oh man talk about your. Conflict of interest here's my
first question that comes to mind here is is how
Is It the dustin burroughs took so long to figure
out what?
Speaker 10 (01:36:13):
Was?
Speaker 4 (01:36:13):
GOING on.
Speaker 13 (01:36:15):
Well.
Speaker 35 (01:36:15):
I don't know and that's why some, People, are, saying
okay well well how long did they? Know about this
certainly a good thing that he was dismissed if this was,
Indeed the case but, the question, is you know how long?
Did they know is this you know this person they even,
just you know they're trying to make this. Person A
scapegoat and i think the biggest question is what legislation has.
Speaker 4 (01:36:40):
Been affected during this? Session? By this, right you know
we've heard from.
Speaker 21 (01:36:46):
Members off the record that that.
Speaker 35 (01:36:49):
They were essentially being treated this way and, being you
know told different things were priorities. Are not priorities but,
we haven't, seen you know what, bills were affected what
would have passed or not passed were this.
Speaker 4 (01:37:03):
Not, the case well and that that's the important piece of,
information to have and if, nothing else too this also
is opportunity to highlight what a huge problem we Have
In the texas state. Legislature, with lobbyists.
Speaker 35 (01:37:15):
Absolutely and it's a it's definitely. A cultural issue right
when you look at these staffs, Of you know I'm Picky,
on dustin burrows but you can look, at you, know most,
statewides the, debtor et cetera and you look, and you
know these offices are essentially revolving doors of, staffers and lobbyists,
AND you know i think that that's something that raises a.
Speaker 4 (01:37:34):
Lot of, Questions sure, Does, All right brandon we'll look
forward to the FOLLOW through that i know you're going

Say that they will begin involuntary Collection Through The treasury.
Department's offset program means borrowers who have student loans in
default will receive communication from federal student aid officials in

let's just put This. In plan english it means the government,
can garnish wages, intercept tax refunds and Seize Portions of
(01:46:50):
social security checks and other benefit payments to go toward paying. Back, The,
loans so sean is this the first you've heard of,
such an idea garnishing ways just to pay?
Speaker 2 (01:47:00):
Back student loans is this? A new, One you know
it's been in practice for a long Time by The.
Speaker 54 (01:47:05):
Department of education it was put at a pause for
quite a while, since twenty twenty, since the pandemic really
Since the, first trump. Administration YOU know and i don't,
think it's abnormal especially for something. Like student loans, unlike car,
payment car, loads or households where they can repossess your,
house or car you can't repossess.
Speaker 2 (01:47:25):
A College degree as linda, McMahon put out in.
