Speaker 1 (00:00):
The story right now is flipping Harris County from blue
to red. It's been blue for about a decade now,
as I understand, it was pretty purple before that. What's
going to take for Governor Abbott to turn it red?
Gary pollin Texas Conservative Review joining us.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Gary, Good morning, Good morning, Bob.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
So the governor seems pretty adamant here, and he said
he's willing to spend most of what's in that account
to make Harris County back, well, not just back to
what it once was, but to actually make it dark red,
which it has not been before. What kind of a
task does he have in front of him.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
It's going to be a significant task. But the governor
and his political consultant, Dave Harney are certainly up to it.
They've run a number of really great races. The amount
of resources that the governor is going to throw at
Harris County is significant. I do not think the Democrats
are going to be able to compete. But the question becomes,

(00:49):
will national occurrence override this significant investment in turning Harris
County red?

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Explain that a little further.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
You know, the off yr election has often become especially
as we move on in history, become more significant related
to national issues. So the perception in the elections this
fall were that the economy's not doing as well as
people would like, and so what we need to be
able to well. First, we hope that the Trump tax

(01:19):
cuts work and that the people are feeling better about
their situation. Because basically, the way that works with the economy,
if you personally don't feel good about it, doesn't matter
what the statistics say. So your hope that that'll work.
Assuming that work, we're going to have a strong ticket
in Harris County. We have a lot of outstanding candidates
for county judge. We have we're going to have a

(01:41):
full slate of candidates for running for judges themselves. We
have lots of people running for state reps. The keys
to winning Harris County if you're going to be spending
significant money, I believe that it has been neglected in
the past, is getting out the vote. There's significant There's
a lot of votes in Harris County. A lot of
people that are like Trump, voted for Trump twice, but

(02:03):
when it comes to off your elections, they don't show up.
So we've got to turn out the voters. Turnout is
where it's that we turn out those voters with messaging.
I think we're going to be in good shape. If
you look at two years ago, there was a significant
campaign to eliminate Democratic judges who were soft on crime.
That was done privately. I think the governor, some of

(02:25):
the governor's allies were involved, and the Republicans did a
good job in the courthouse. So I think there's real
opportunity here. And as you know, Bob Harris County has
been suffering under left wing leadership for the last few years,
led by Lena Hidalgo, but the others on the court
that are Democrats, they voted with her almost every time
until they most recently they started looking at the polls

(02:48):
and decided, Gee, the voters may not like these ideas.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Yeah, we're talking with that Gary pollin TeX's Conservative Review.
I'm curious when you talk about, you know, well, what
the statistics say don't mean anything. It's how you feel
and what you're experiencing yourself that really kind of drives vorders.
I agree with that, what are they going to be
feeling come January if we don't have a solution to
the potential two hundred and twenty percent increase in health
insurance premiums once those subsidies go.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Away, well, I think though the Democrats are going to
blame the Republicans and Trump, the Democrats may decide they're
going to lock out and leave government again and shut
government down, which is not a good thing for anybody,
but ends up hurting us, maybe more than the Democrats.
And so you need to anticipate that. One of the

(03:36):
problems we had with the medical system is that Obamacare
has been has been, has been a problem since they
got established. And throw it more and more money at
it is not an answer because if you look at
the situation with the deficit, Bob, I mean, it was
at thirty six trillion, now it's at thirty eight trillion.
It continues to go up. We have a spending problem.

(03:58):
The President did mention and in terms of medical care
about health savings accounts and making that more available to everybody.
That's a good program. That's a good thing. And so
what we need to do is have answers. The Congress
needs to get busy, roll up their sleeves, and we
need to have the economy raw. And I hope it does.
I mean, you keep hearing from the Treasury Secretary that

(04:20):
they believe everything will be just fined, so we'll see.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Well, Gary, you know, you're right spot on about the
healthcare costs, and it is one hundred percent. Democrats fall
from the beginning when they not only created Obamacare without
any Republican support, but then expanded those subsidies under Biden
without any Republican support. But they blame the Republicans. And
President Trump knows that, and that's why, from what I understand,
one of our top headlines today is that he is

(04:45):
going to this week at some point outlined the new
initiative create those health care savings accounts and have the
subsidies go directly to the people, not to the insurance companies.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Good exactly. And what's interesting there is, Bob, they can
set up health savius accounts for those whose health care
is paid for by the government. You need to give
people a stake in making decisions. You know, I trust
I trust people. You give them enough information, they're going
to do the right thing for them. That's what you want.
That The system now is they have no control in

(05:14):
fighting healthcare. We don't know what anything costs.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
No, we don't know what We don't know what office
is at cost. We don't know what a shot that
we get or anything else costs. A transparency medical cost
or medical care. Health care transparency is a huge, huge
issue that I know is going to have to be
in any solution that the President and his team comes
up with.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
But hopefully you come up this morning. Yeah you can
get the whole show's talking about it, but there is
there is hope. You just need to get aggressive and
come up with the plans. There are good ideas out there,
but what happens in Congress increasingly is not much gets done.
Of course, our majority in the House is tenuous at best.

(05:53):
As you know, we've got a lot of work to do.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Gary about Gary, out of time here, my friend. I
appreciate you coming on to talk about this with us.
Have a happy Thanksgiving, sir, YouTube.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
