Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, that's the theme of the US Army, but I
think Charlie Kirk had his own army. And the question
is will the army keep rolling along or will this
disrupt things? I think the army keeps rolling along. I'll
ask our next guest, though, what she thinks. She's vice
chair of Texas for Young Republicans, Hannahbeth Jones. Welcome to
the show, Hannah. I know there's a thank you so
much for having me. You bet there's a lot of
Charlie Kirk supporters out there. So what happens in the
(00:22):
vacuum matter his death?
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah, I think we're at a time where really courage
is just required. So now it's not optional. We have
to speak our mind and live consistent with the values
we profess. More clarity is just not optional at this point,
and we get the privilege of following in Charlie Kirk's
footsteps and being bold, whether that's like him in a
debate form on a main stage, or if that's just
(00:44):
our local circles and our communities, at our jobs and
in the neighborhoods we live in.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
I think you probably have to continue the ministry of
going to college campuses and debating young people, don't you.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Oh? Absolutely, And I feel very lucky that there's so
many conservative groups across the state in Texas, the Young Republicans,
the Turning Point chapters, and the College Republicans, the and
Conservatives of Texas. They're all doing our little parts across
the state to make sure that young people are engaged
with other ideas than maybe some of the liberal junks
they're hearing on campus.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
You know, though, that if you do that, there's a
chance you're putting your life on the line. Do you
have membership this willing to do that.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Through? Really and obviously, I mean nobody hopes for that outcome, certainly,
but freedom is worth fighting for. And obviously that's kind
of what's made America so great is that we've always
had people that have been willing to risk their life
and pay the ultimate price to preserve our freedom and
expand our freedom.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Here has there been I know, there's been obviously an
out pouring on some college campuses, and especially among those
who are already members of Turning Point on college campuses.
I guess my question would be, has this, for lack
of a better Trevis, this's been somewhat of a recruiting tool,
that there's been more college students who have come forward
and say I want to be a part of this
as a result of what happened to Charlie.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yes, I mean we've seen and I've talked to so
many of our leaders across the state that has said,
you can't believe how many people have asked me about
joining our clubs and have reached out to me about
learning about more what I do and why we should
care about this, Because there are a lot of people
that maybe thought, yeah, I'm conservative and I care about America,
but I'm just going to vote right and those people
(02:23):
are kind of done with that now they've seen what
passivism gets us, and so they're almost awoken to the
idea that hey, we have to take action. This doesn't
just happen by accident. We don't have a wonderful state
and a wonderful country just by accident.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, it's been interesting to me, and I'm sure you've
seen it dead your organization as well. That there have
been there have been people who have been willing to
stand up and they have been willing to say that
Charlie Kirk deserved this, that he had this coming mercifully.
A lot of these people are getting suspended or fired.
But I think they're shocked that they they're in a
(03:00):
minority position here. I think they really think that by
saying this, that that most people agree with them, that
that's shocking to me.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
That is truly shocking me too, because I genuinely can't
think of anybody, you know, even the most radical leftists,
that I would wish wish that on. I think that's
what makes America so great, right, is that we get
to debate ideas and not die for them. There are
countries where that is not an option, and America should
be the beacon of hope that discussion and discourse is
(03:28):
always possible.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
You're right about that, Hannah. Thank you, Hannah. Beth Jones,
Vice chair of Texas Young Republicans. It's six twenty six
