Speaker 1 (00:00):
So interesting piece in the Chronicle. Former Harris County DA
kim Ogg speaking at a Republican event You should a
blistering rebuke of Democrat leadership and urging Republicans to reclaim
the county in twenty twenty six. Question is is how
did you get this way? I wanted to ask. Jared
Wood filed that question attorney, former Harris County GOP chair
(00:20):
Jared Good morning, Good to talk to you. How are you, sir?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Great to be with you this morning, Bob, Thanks for
having me on.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
So as I understand it, everything by twenty eighteen was blue,
but for twenty five years before that, everything was red,
kim Ogg said. We had been a conservative red county
for many, many years. What happened in twenty eighteen? Why
did things flip? Then?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Well, you know, I think we got away from the
Baki tackling of politics, from the voter registration and what
we call the GOTV or getting out the vote, you know,
going door to door talking to our neighbors and friends,
registering them in a hot Houston summer and then asking
them to come back out and vote that following fall.
So if we get back to the Baking attacking the
politics and making sure that we have people running in
(01:05):
every single position. So if you look at the last
election cycle, we picked up some benches in Harris County,
but we left a whole lot of benches unchallenged vacant.
So if you don't show up, you can't win. So
it's incumbent upon our local party and others to make
sure that we have Republicans running against every single Democrat,
because again, if we don't show up, we can't win.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
So what's the Harris County GOP doing to recruit those
candidates to make sure that you get every race challenged.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Well, I know right now they're making calls. I know
they're putting out emails. But it's not just the GOP
that's doing it. There's other groups now that are getting involved,
other organizations, conservative organizations that are working to recruit candidates
to make sure that we don't have the same thing
happen in twenty twenty six that we had happened in
twenty four, that we make sure that every single Democrat
(01:56):
is challenged. Because what we're looking at, if things continue
to go in the direction they're going right now, that
we're going to have a banner year in twenty twenty six.
But again, if we don't have someone running against that Democrat,
that Democrats already run one without a challenge. So it's
important not only we show up and we have candidates there,
but we work to register Republicans in Harrison County and
(02:18):
make sure that they turn out in the fall.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Jared, do you think that sometimes, you know, losing enough
races in a row and not having the right people
challenging for seats, particularly on the benches and so forth,
do you think it becomes self defeating and self repeating?
In other words, people feel like I can't win here,
there's no point in Edium trying.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Bobby, absolutely right, that's definitely what happens. And so you
get to the point whether there's enough losses that people
just say, why am I going to spend time away
from my family, from my business running for an office
when I don't have a shot. Well, let's go back
to nineteen ninety four nineteen ninety two in that era
when the Democrats went control. Well, in ninety four, we
actually filled the ballot and everybody thought that these high profile,
(02:59):
well funded Democrats were going to win.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Well, oh and behold, there.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Was a sweep we had a Republican revolution under Newt
Gingrich and we were able to win just about every
single seat, and that put us in nineteen ninety six
to the point where we actually took control of every
single county wide office. So it's time that we get
back to that mentality, that we not adopt the defeat
us mentality and not show up. Instead take a winning
approach where we get the ballot ball of folks and
(03:24):
then we work to register new Republicans. Then we come
back and we turn them on the ball. That's the
equation for success in politics. And we do leader and
Donald Trump, who's motivating our base, Bob.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
So we're ready. That's a huge part. Yeah, that's a
huge part. Jared, we're not talking with that. Jared Woodville,
former Harris County GOP chair. What are you hearing from
the folks? Is there an appetite amongst the people of
Houston and of Harris County specifically to have that change.
It's one thing to say we want to get the
you know, the candidates out there, but do you think
the voters are ready for the shift? Well? I do.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
I think They've seen enough and had enough of the
Lena Hudaal, those of Harris County, and you know, they're
seeing what's happening on a national level. When you elect
there's true solid conservative who's unafraid to of the Democrats
and Donald Trump, and so you know a lot of
these stems from what's happening at the top. So if
the president is doing great, and our president is doing great,
(04:18):
then a lot of that trickles down. And we saw
that going into twenty twenty four. We picked up a
lot of benches that were controlled by Democrats prior to
that election cycle. And I think now it's time for
us to finish the job going into twenty twenty six.
We need to ride Donald Trump's coattails because he is
doing a great job. We need to continue to expose
Lena Hidalgo and the liberal policies of the left that
(04:40):
infiltrated Harris County. And if we do that, we will
be successful, successful at the ballot box in twenty six.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
I'll wrap with this, and she brought up Lena Hidalgo
for the second time. The quote from former da OG.
She said that the Harris County in the city of Houston,
under the likes of Turner Ellison Hidalgo was quote one
of the most corrupt regimes end quote the count in
the city had ever seen. Agree with that.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Oh, she's absolutely right on that. Now, and here's the thing,
Kim I Good say the county needs to turn red.
But at the same breath she said that she was
going to support an East Parker. So we can't have
an East Parker or lean A Hidalgo be in our
next county judge.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
We need to make sure it's a solid conservative Republican
leading the highest office in the county, so it's incomba.
Is important that we support the entire ticket from the
top all the way down.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
To the bottom if we're going to be successful. There
you go. Jared Woodsphill former Harris County Joop Chare. Jared,
thanks for the insights. We appreciate it, sir, Thank you,
my friend.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Great being with you.
