(00:00):
Five poin fifty two or time herein Houston's born news that a little thunder,
lightning and some heavy doses of rain. We thought we'd check in with
Jeff Linder, Harris County Flood Controlused the meteorologists there to see if anything
unusual is going on. How arewe looking, Jeff, Yeah, so
far this morning, this line ofstorms has moved through as expected, and
the main problems have been the windand some heavy rainfall, especially out on

(00:20):
the west side. We do havea couple of spots of high water,
mainly due to construction there on Highwayninety nine south of IKE ten. The
southbound feeder road does have some highwater, but the majority of this has
been wind. We did get aseventy one mile in our wind gust at
near San Leon this morning, andwe do have some reports just coming in

(00:40):
from fire department on South Mason Roadsouth of I ten have some structural damage
possibly some wind damage there in thatarea. And so good news is the
worst of this is through. It'sall the way over by the Sabine River
now, so the severe thread isover for Harris County, Houston, Southeast
Texas. We do still have somelack rain, some lightning and thunder,

(01:00):
and we could have some showers thismorning, but the worst of this is
over, okay. And again thebig problem at this point is just people
not having power. Yeah, wedo have. I think you mentioned earlier
like one hundred and over one hundredand something thousand without power, which in
this area, you know, thatis a significant number, but it could

(01:21):
have been a lot worse given themout of wind we saw overnight, especially
down in Fort Bene, southern Harrisand Galveston County. So we're doing pretty
well this morning. I'd be carefulthis morning. There might be some tree
limbs out there on the roads. It might be some down wire, some
downpole, So you're out driving around, especially before the sun comes up,
just be mindful of that type ofdamage might have occurred overnight. Yeah,

(01:41):
you got my attention on that's seventyone mile for our wind gust. How
unusual is to have a wind gustthat strong? Yeah, not completely unusual
for here. We had several. So we had seventy one in San Leon.
We had a sixty two mile inour gust up at Hook's Airport and
tom Ball a lot of fifty midfifty upper fifties down around Gallaston Bay,
and so that particular site there disgustedpretty high. Not unusual. Right there

(02:06):
by the water, the winds canincrease a little bit. And then we
did have some high winds over towardsHighland and Bolivar. But you know,
this is exactly what we were expectingovernight. We were expecting this big squal
and to push through and really themain threat being those strong, damaging winds
pushing across the area. And sothat's that's what's happened. Good news is
when you get those types of winds, the storms tend to move fast,

(02:27):
and that's exactly what's happened. Sothey've kind of cleared out of the area.
Is it my imagination or does itfeel like we've had a really really
windy spring. This seems like anabnormally windy spring to me. It seems
like every day has been gusty.Yeah, we've had a lot of wind
lately, especially you know, alot of these storm systems have been passed
to our north, so we haven'tbeen getting a lot of what we saw
over night, a lot of showersand thunderstorms, but we have been getting

(02:50):
a lot of that wind feeding thatmoisture into these storm systems that have passed
further to our north, across NorthTexas, Oklahoma, Kansas in those areas,
and so that that prooces that kindof gusty, strong wind. Interestingly,
you bring it up as this passeson by, as the actual blow
itself passes by to our north.Today, we're going to get some gusty
northwest winds. So we could seethirty forty miles an hour out of the

(03:12):
northwest behind this front that's coming through. So, yeah, we have had
some gusty winds over the past coupleof months as these storm systems have moved
across. All right, Jeff Linder, always good to hear from you.
Thank you, sir, appreciate it. Jeff Linder is the meteorologist of the
