Speaker 1 (00:00):
Politics in New Jersey, a very very blue state. Let's
talk about that with the Fox News calumnist Liz Peak.
The Republican candidate is certainly somebody very familiar. However to voters.
Isn't this like the third time he's run for governor.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
It's true, but he's done pretty well. Last time. He
came within three points of beating Phil Murphy, the incumbent governor.
So you know, he has a very good shot here
at defeating Mikey Cheryl, who is a Democrat candidate in
the racist time around. And I think you know, if
you look at New Jersey residents and the fact that

(00:35):
I think eighty five percent of them are dissatisfied with
life in New Jersey. Why because of incredibly high taxes
at the highest property taxes in the country and amongst
the highest corporate tax rate, and also income tax on
regular residents, and the fact that cost of living is
through the roof. All the things that have typically sort

(00:58):
of driven voters to look for a change are in place.
And I think the real corker this time around is
the cost of electricity, which is up twenty two percent
this year in New Jersey. And it's not because oil
and gas prices are up twenty two percent.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
They're not.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
It's not because coal prices are up that much, or
even the cost of installations of renewables. It's because of
incredibly terrible policies the Democrat Murphy and his predecessor Democrat
governors have put in place, basically banning the importation of
natural gas and using abundant sheet natural gas to replace

(01:36):
other kinds of energy which are more expensive. So New
Jersey voters I think have seen what the Democrats can
do and they don't like it.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
However, they do seem to keep voting for them. I mean,
she still has fifty percent in the polls. I mean,
at least fifty percent of New Jersey as evidently don't
mind paying through that. If you know what for all
this stuff, well we'll see.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Cinderelli has been closing the gap. Also. Cheryl has had
a couple of scandals come to light, mainly about her
military schooling. She was not allowed to march with her
graduating class because presumably of honor code violations. She says
it's because she didn't turn in her fellow cadets, but

(02:21):
who knows the truth of it. She won't release the records,
but we'll see. I think this election is going to
be quite interesting because what we saw on Saturday with
this absurd No King's protest across the country is basically
outrage against Donald Trump. And you have to kind of
pull yourself back and say, what exactly are they so

(02:42):
cross about? Are they angry that we've closed and secured
the border?

Speaker 1 (02:46):
I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Most Americans think that was a really good thing to do.
Is are they really furious that Trump is trying to
drive down crime? I'll tell you what, in some New
Jersey cities they need to drive down crime. Some of
these cities in New Jersey are incredibly dangerous and amongst
the most dangers in the country. So if you kind
of pick apart the issues that Donald Trump ran on

(03:10):
and that Cidarelli is running on, like banning sanctuary cities,
getting rid of by the way, offshore wind towers, wind
towers in offshore parts of New Jersey and the waters
off New Jersey, that is highly contentious. These are crown
jeweled beaches in New Jersey. They don't want wind towers,

(03:33):
which by the way, can have accidents and really foil
your beaches with like shards of silicon glass. I mean,
these are dangerous operations, and I think New Jersey voters
are not happy with that.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
So do you think, Liz, that this is a preview
of the midterms. Will this give us any idea of
what the midterms are likely to be like or what
the big issues are likely to be for the midterms
on how this rece turns out.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
I hope so. I hope it really does come down
to taxes, money wasted on doable energy, which is really
hurting America. The fact that Trump is trying to turn
that around. Cost of living, of course, is going to
be right up there at the top. But again, if
you can pin cost of living increases on local politicians
who have insisted on higher taxes, which by the way,

(04:17):
gets funneled into everything you pay for in a state
like New Jersey and higher energy costs, I think the
Democrats are on the losing side of that.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Okay, well, we'll see what happens soon enough, we'll be
elections just a couple of weeks away. We'll Seegard Liss,
thank you. Fox News columnist Lis Peek
