Being joined now by Galveson County CountyJudge Mark Henry, Judge. We've been
hearing so much about south of I. Ten basically is what the meteorologists are
telling us is where it's going toget the rain and maybe as much as
ten inches where you are, Yes, sure, that's correct. Good morning.
I just got updated by the NationalWeather Service. They've been pretty consistent
(00:22):
for the last couple of days that'sstarting tomorrow through Thursday. The least they're
forecasting is four inches and the mostis about ten inches. That numbers moved
back and forth a little bit,but it's been pretty consistent, and I
would say, you know, expectsix to eight is being an average of
what they've been forecasting. So howare you preparing for this? There's not
much we can do really. We'll, of course stay on top of it.
(00:44):
We'll activate our emergency management facility andjust monitor for coastal flooding. That
much rain and that short period oftime is going to cost flooding. There's
just no way around it. We'reonly twelve to twenty feet above sea level
and there's only so fast that floodwatercan move out to the bay or the
gulf. So We hope it notto be too severe, but just watching
and then being able to inform thepeople and things like that happen. This
(01:07):
is a tropical storm and we don'tknow what it might gin up into.
Everyone is different. We talked toJeff Lidner of Harris County flood Control earlier
this morning, who said there's alsoa matter of winds picking up probably Wednesday
and surging in some low lying areasas well. Yes, that's correct.
The National Weather Service does anticipate they'llbe issuing a small craft advisory because of
(01:30):
the winds. The storm itself, they don't think to be a real serious
threat to us. They expect thatto go into Mexico. But the rain
produced from the storm is what we'regoing to be dealing with. And then
in addition to that, we'll haveall the right conditions for rip currents.
So hopefully heavy rain discourages people fromswimming in the gulf, but if they
are, they're going to be Thepotential is going to be there for rip
(01:51):
currents. How are things like theBolivard Ferry and that part, as far
as you know, they should beokay. They have criteria set forth by
the state that they can operate upuntil a certain wind speed or a certain
tidle activity. I don't think eitherof those criteria have been forecast yet.
That doesn't mean it won't happen, just that that's not what they're antastipating yet.
(02:13):
So we would not anticipate fairy disruptionat this time, but you know
that's subject to change when that weatheractually gets here. Well, you don't
call it a dry run because you'regoing to have rain. But basically you're
just relying on people not to dostupid things. That's correct. And please
don't drive through floodwater. I justtalked to someone over the weekend who,
you swore it was probably only abouta foot deep, flooded his car out
(02:36):
it was three feet deep. Youjust can't tell. So don't drive through
floodwater. It's really not worth therisk to you in your car. Yeah,
you're talking to someone who flooded anengine because I just sort of discounted
not how high my tires were, but how low my exhaust pipe was.
That was not a good idea.Yeah, So basically, keep it tuned
(02:57):
right here, and if you'll justkind of check in with this or at
least respond, we're going to betouching base with you as the next couple
of days unfold. Sure will thankyou, sir, thank you very much.
That is the Harris, sorry, the Galvezon County Judge Mark Henry who
took the time to stay in touchwith us, because that's where we're told.
(03:19):
The worst of the storm is goingto be south of it ten and
as you just heard, is goingto be picking up as the days ensue.
