Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yeah, Well this loser is lucky that he's married into money,
that's for sure. Six twenty two, here in Houston's Morning News,
Matt Locke, host and Republican strategist, joins us, what is
it going to take to get Bethel Rourk to finally
go away? What do you think?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Probably nothing? So you know, look, the Democrat Party has
an identity problem. There's a vacuum, and of course you're
going to see people like Gavin Newsom, You're going to
see people like Francis We're going to try to jump
in there and lead. So that's what you know. The
Democrats are in this really weird position where they don't
have a face to the party. All of these consultants

(00:37):
behind the scene, all of these political people who get
paid to lose every cycle, are in there telling him
that he has a chance to be the face of
the party.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
And here he is, okay, well he's in other words,
he's an opportunist. He sees an opportunity because of redistricting
to get back into things. I do you think that
works for him? Is that going to Democrats have to
be looking at his track records and say, well, we
can't run this guy again, he's just going to lose again.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Well yeah, but he's the best to have. I mean,
they don't have a choice. When you really look at
the Democrat Party, what is their overall approval already twenty
four percent? Now they are a party that Donald Trump
has pinned them on every fifteen percent margin. You know,
story with crime, with with boys in girls, sports, with immigration.

(01:25):
Trump is showing in real time that the Democrats really
don't even have a platform. So Francis fits right in.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
I guess you're right about that, Olly, And let me
get your thoughts on something else here. Gavin Newsom has
evidently made a plan to read district California. He's going
to he's going to figure out how to do that
before the midterm elections. He has to put it on
the ballot. I guess in order to be able to
make that happen. I'm not sure exactly what the California

(01:53):
rules say about what you have to do to call redistricting,
but he's going to do an attempt to do it,
and he's going to try to gain back redraw the
lines in California. The game back the seats. The five
seats are going to be gained by Republicans here in Texas.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Well, I wish him the best of luck. If you
realize what's going on with Gavin Newsom, He's running for
president in twenty eight once again the Democrat Party doesn't
have a face. So as an opportunitist as well, he's
going to use the state's resources to up his treasure chest.
So as you watch Eric Eric swallwell you got to

(02:28):
get into that too. You watch Gavin Newsom do the
things that he does, or Karen Bass yesterday with you know,
Trump sends ice to their doorstep as they do a
press conference, and Trump is the ultimate troller. They blew
a gasket. Trump knows exactly what they're doing, he knows
exactly how they're doing it. And I wish him luck

(02:49):
because I think California is a lot more red than
they know, and Trump is removing illegal aliens. As you
remove those numbers, that state gets more and more red.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yeah. Interesting. By the way, do you think that this
potentially sets off a nationwide redistricting war with Republican governors
redrawing their maps Democrat governors redrawing theirs to try to
gain the advantage for the next election, Well, I do,
and I don't.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
It depends on if the census gets brought about in
the in the middle of the ten years, right, So
if Trump can get away with telling the Commerce Secretary, hey,
look let's recount the census. We know the numbers were off.
Texas was miscounted. All the blue states had got more more,
you know, count on it of population. Red states didn't.

(03:37):
If the census happens, I don't think there's a need
for redistricting because you're going to see probably twenty to
twenty five seats that are going to shift from blue
to red. But if it doesn't happen, I think you
see a lot of these governors in these red states going, look,
we're looking at Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts. You're looking at Illinois
where there are thirty forty Perculublicans in the state, but

(04:01):
they have zero representation in government. I mean, that's just crazy.
I think that's the only way you can balance out
anything is with the Republican governors actually read districting red states.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Okay, Matt Locke, thank you appreciate it. Host of Republican
strategist Matt Locke
