Speaker 1 (00:00):
Maybe not. Seven twenty three is our time here in
Houston is born in a news So you know, teachers'
unions have been overwhelmingly liberal and that is not likely
to change. So if you are somebody who's a conservative
and you are a teacher who's representing your interests, well
maybe this organization will. Teacher Freedom Alliance Ryan Walters joins
us they're billing themselves as sort of a republican alternative
(00:22):
to a teachers union. So you're not proposing to make
a right leaning teachers union. What does your organization do?
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yeah, no, we are definitely not a union. We cannot
stand the teachers' union and their value. So what we're
saying is, guys, don't be a member of a union. Leave.
What we're gonna do with our group is say, listen,
if you want professional development, if you want liability insurance,
we're happy to provide those things. But what we're about
is getting getting American classrooms back on track, focusing on
(00:54):
the basics. No lust wing indoctrination, no money flowing two
Democrat candidates, none of that nonsense like you see with
the NEA and AFT. And so again, if you're a
great teacher, you want to get the classrooms back to
the basics. You want to teach, come join our group.
That's what we're about, and that's what our focus is
going to be on.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
All right, Well, obviously, the teachers pay dues to a
teachers union in order to belong to that union, and
in many cases, not here in Texas, but in many
states they're forced to do. So, how do you folks
make a living? Do you do you charge dues in
order to be a part of the Teacher Freedom Alliance?
Speaker 2 (01:28):
No, no, come join. No, We've got supporters and say, look,
support good teachers, and so no, it doesn't cost anything
to join. We provide all these services for teachers because
we've got folks from across the country and say we
want to support teachers leaving and just support them and
doing their craft. So you don't cost teachers anything to join.
Anybody can join if you want to support this effort.
(01:51):
And so again, our focus is always going to be
on actual academics. We're unapologetic. We want to help create
good American citizens. We want our kids to love this country.
We want to support our teachers and teaching that and
again we've seen a rapid growth across the country or
it's that type of message.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
I don't know how much teachers unions actually do these
days as far as salary negotiations. I think they probably
try to scare their membership into thinking that they'll make
less money if they're not represented by the teachers union.
Do you provide that service salary negotiation for teachers?
Speaker 2 (02:22):
No, we don't negotiate salaries for teachers. But I'm gonna
tell you, you know, most school districts don't do it
that way. And I mean that's one of the things
to your point. They love to scare people and well, well,
if you're not here negotiating, what's going to happen to you?
I go, well, what's gonna happen to you? Honestly, a
free market approach is much better. You have the union
that comes in in strong arms. Remember the union usually
argues from the benefit of their worst actors, right, So
(02:45):
they come in and argue for things that most teachers
don't really care about and what you have or situations
where good teachers would make more money. They fight things
like merit pay, They fight things like signing bonuses for
exceptional teachers. They fight all these things. And if you
talk to good teachers, they go, well, shoot, hey, yeah,
I would love to be paid more base on how
the kids perform or things like that. The union fights
(03:08):
all of those things, and so yeah, no, most school
districts actually don't negotiate directly with the union, so they
really leave that and hang that over their members as
ways to scare them into join it.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Well, I'll tell you what if you're a teacher listening
to our show right now, you're a conservative, and you
no doubt would love to find out more about this organization.
Brian Walters, how do they find out more about Teacher
Freedom Alliance?
Speaker 2 (03:28):
